1. Hello!: What a great thing
it is to appreciate a moment with your
favorite dessert. Sometimes you just want to enjoy it and keep a side
of it forever. The temptation of creating a delicious dessert
is so compelling. Hi, my name is Christine and welcome to a new Procreate
illustration class. After finishing the bachelor's and master's degree
in fine arts, developed a great
desire to explore many art fields and techniques. This sparked my interest
in teaching art and sharing the knowledge
while having a joyful and relaxing time. In this class, you
will learn how to create a beautiful
composition with a desert by playing with shapes and beautifully
harmonizing colors, this class is very easy going. You will get great
satisfaction from creating the background decorations and the sweets from the foreground. You will build multiple shapes of different colors
and sizes and place them on different
layers in order to beautifully
frame the artwork, playing with different
textures and surfaces, you will give your
illustration an extra tasty and mouth-watering
look I taking this class, you will not only have a lovely time practicing
your drawing skills, but you will also
learn what it takes to create an eye-catching
composition. You will receive
all the guidance needed to complete
this illustration. You don't have to worry about
not being prepared for it. The recipe for this
illustration is very simple. All you need is your iPad, the Procreate app,
and the Apple pencil. If you are ready for a
colorful and joyful time creating this sweet moment, let's jump into the class.
2. Background - introduction: For this delicious
and fun illustration, Let's start by creating a new canvas in
the Procreate app. For that, you will have to go to the plus button from
the top right corner and create a new canvas that has 4 thousand by 4 thousand pixels. This will offer you
plenty of layers on which you can realize
your tasty composition. Now that the canvas
has been created a standard introduce the color
palette for this class. The color palette is
called Cafe time and can be found in the
resource page of the class. You won't need all
the color nuances from this color palette. But if you want, you can choose other nuances and color accents for
your composition. For this illustration,
you will need only two brushes to create
volume for your shapes, you will use a textured brush, which will give a very nice
granulation and vibration to the artwork and will break the flat look
of the shapes. The second brush used is
the elegant inking brush. This brush is used to draw
the shapes and it has a very nice and fluid plasticity to give an organic
look to your shapes. These two brushes can be found on the resource
page as well. Of course, if you want, you can use your
favorite brushes, but make sure you have at
least one for the drawing part and one to create shadow
and light on the shapes. Now that you know
the few things you need to begin this illustration, Let's start by giving a
warm and pleasant color to the background to set the tone of this
lovely composition. For that, let's go
to the layers which are found right next
to the color palette. As you can see, a layer
has already been created, but for the background color, you will have to choose the background color
from the bottom. Now that you've
clicked on it and you are presented with
the color palette. You can choose the middle tone, cream color from the bottom right side of the color palette. This plaza and cream
color harmonizes very well with a lot
of color nuances, which makes it a great
background color. Now because we want to create a sense of gravity for
this illustration, you will create a
horizontal line across the middle
of the canvas with a darker nuance of green badge on the first
layer of this illustration. So let's go to the color
palette and change the color in this beautiful
middle bash Nuance. Now lead them out
to easily create a horizontal line across
the lower middle. This line don't need to
be perfectly straight, so don't stress about it. After your line has reached
the other side of the canvas, you can drag the color
from the top right corner and feel the bottom side of
the line you've just created. Beautiful. And now because we want to
fade that harsh line and use only color to express
gravity and weight, we will use the textured brush and the color of the
top side of the canvas. When you are using
the textured brush, make sure you check
the opacity and the flow so they fit
your requirements. In this case, you
will want to use a bigger brush size and the
highest opacity to fade the middle line go from left to right over
the place where the two colors meet until the line gets a
little more faded. If you want to create
a gradient between the two colors and fade even more the limit
from between the two. You can use a bigger size
and a lower opacity and use circular motions to disrupt the linear
look of the gradient. Very lightly hover over the two colors until the
gradient becomes very fine. And delegate. With this, the first step is finished, and it is time to place
the first element of this composition
to beautiful bushes that will create a frame for our lovely and delicious
coffee time composition.
3. Two Bushes - medium shape: In this step, you will focus
on two similar Bush shapes. One place on the left side and another one on
the right side. These medium-sized shapes will be part of the
background composition, along with some smaller
and bigger shapes. To create the contour
of the first Bush, you will need the inking brush
in order to have a fine, clear, and elegant contour. So let's start by picking up the inking brush and then
going through the layers. You will press the plus button to move onto another layer. Illustrating with layers makes the entire process
much more enjoyable, easy and cursive for the
color of the bushes. You will use this
beautiful middle green from the top-left side. This green goes
very well together with a creamy colors
of the background. The bush shape is very
cute and decorative. It has an elongated
oval shape with a couple of small curves
on the bottom of it. The moves used are very similar to when you would
describe a heart. After the shape is
defined enclosed, you can drag the color from the top right corner
and fill the shape. Take your time for any
small adjustments. If you want to reshape your
beautiful and perky bush, you can use the Move tool from the top to play with the
volumes of the shape. The move tool needs
to be set on warp. And now you can drag the bush
from inside to the outside. Maybe you want to make the main shape look
fuller and bigger on the left side and
the little circles from the sides a little
bit more lifted. Try to look at this bush
like a little balloon. You want this shapes
to look healthy, hearty and joyful,
know droopy shapes. After this, you can press once more the move tool
to unselect the bush. With this, the first shape is then it is time to
create the second shape. For that, you will want to go to the layers and add
one more on the top. This will be the layer
of the second Bush, which will be placed on the right side of
the composition. Taking a little bit of space from the first one as before, makes sure that
the shape you are describing feels
energetic and dynamic, giving it multiple perky
peaks and an elongated look. After you're satisfied with
the main shape as before, you can drag the color from the corner and drag
it inside the shape. Now as before, if
you want to pay a little bit more attention
to the shape of the bush, you can use the Move
tool set on warp to modify the look of your
lovely second Bush. And of course, if you feel
like you're Bush is too far away from the first
one or two, low or high, you can use the move tool on uniform to find a
better place for the bush by dragging it from outside to the place you desire. This one feels a bit too
far from the other one. Of course, you can go
to the other layer, to the other bush and change
its location as well. Once again, using the
Move tool on uniform, do not skip this process
and try to play with their position until you
feel you've improved them. After the shapes of the
two bushes are done, it is time to give life
to their real features. For that, you will
start by playing with light and shadow
on their shapes. Starting with the shadow, you will express them using
a darker nuance of green. So make sure you pick it up from the top left side of
the color palette. After the bush and
the color are ready, let's go to the layers and having the first Bush selected, you will press on this
layer and select from the shown panel the
Alpha Lock option. You can do the same
for both bushes as they will both get
through the same process. Now you can freely play with a textured colors on the
shape of the bush without disturbing the rest of the
composition before starting to apply the texture shadow to the bottom left
side of the shapes. Keep in mind to
adjust the size of your brush and lower the
opacity in order to fit the smaller size of the
bush and gradually build the textures using
circular motions to give an organic
look to this shadows. And repeat the movement
a couple of times until you create a fine
dark green gradient. After the shadow part is done, you can soften out the
gradient by reapplying a light green color over the place where the
two colors meet. And then if you're ready for the lightened side of the bush, Let's pick from
the color palette, this beautiful light gray
from the bottom right side, starting from the top
right edge of the bush, slowly use circular motions to bring a little bit of
light over the bushes. Use this color scarcely, and try to avoid going over the dark side to not obtain
grayish nuances of green. As for the shadow drop a tiny bit more color on the
outside edges of the bush, until the edge appears
a little bit more faded in comparison
with the background. After the light side is done, it is time to move
on to the next bush. Even if this process is very important to be done for
the second Bush as well. This time you can start with a light part of the bush because the light is coming from the same direction as
for the right side bush. You will apply this slide on the top right side of the Bush, focusing the light on
the edge of the shape. Use circular motions when describing the round
shape of the bush. As you can see, even
though the light color is similar in value with
the background color, they detached from
one another because they have different
color temperatures. Now let's not forget to create the dark side of this as well. To complete this beautiful
tree, the appearance, picking backup from the palate, the dark green from the top. If you want to speed up
this process and you feel confident in
your brush handling, you can increase the opacity and the size of
the brush to have a faster and more
efficient coverage power after the dark side of the
bush has been created, the two shapes are ready
for some finer details. For that you will grab once
more from the color palette, the light nuance of
green from the top. And then let's make sure the
left side Bush is selected. Now starting from the
top of the bush and using the inking Kalman brush, We'll start tracing some
beautiful and long line across the volume of the bush to describe some
elongated branches. Even though these
lines appear straight, they are actually a tiny bit curved to not give
a flat look to the little bushes by using a limited color palette
for each of the shapes, you give them a lot of
personality and charm. So make sure you
don't go too far with the color diversity when it
comes to one single shape. After the first Bush is covered with this beautiful
crossing lines, it is time for the second one. So let's go to the layers and select the layer of
the right-side Bush. Trace these lines from one
side to another while making sure they create a 45-degree
angle with one another. You can vary their thickness by pressing lighter or
harder on the pen. After each of the
curves has been decorated with this beautiful
and delicate branches, the two bushes are done. Remember that these bushes represent the part of the
background decoration, so they don't need
too many details. Keeping things simple when
layering your illustration is a great way to ensure your composition will
be a well-balanced one. Now let's move to the
next step to create some small size shapes for
your background decoration.
4. The Branches - small shape: Now that the two
bushes are finished, it is time for some
small size shapes for the middle
ground declarations. These shapes will
stand on the front of the bushes and will be
very lovely and colorful. To draw this, you will
need to create a new layer on top or in front
of each bush layer. After these two
layers are created, keep the top layer selected in order to create
the first branch. For this branch, Let's pick a
beautiful bright red color. Any of it from the top or
the middle can be used. So pick whichever you like most. After this, make
sure the brush is selected and then you
are ready to draw. At start, you will trace a curved line across the
bush from the right, moving upward on
this main branch, you will create a couple of additional slightly
curved lines, just like you've made before
for the bush branches, two branches on each side. And let's break the rhythm with one more branch on the
bottom right side. As you can see, these branches reach the outside
part of the bush. So don't be afraid to make the little branches
a bit longer. After this, it is time to place and sweet little circles over the branches to signal maybe
some berries or flower buds. These little circles will create a beautiful shape variety and will make the
illustration see much more whole
and well-balanced. There's little circles
are very important for this composition
because the rest of the shapes will be mainly middle-sized shapes and we need a bit of
rhythm and play in this lovely illustration
makes sure these circles vary a little bit in
size and position. Two or three little red balls
on each beautiful branch will be enough to make these branches seem
extra decorated. Sweet, even though the shape may seem a little bit complex. It is composed of very simple
and easy to read shapes, and that is what
makes an illustration feel well balanced
and eye-catching. Look at how beautiful
the red color contrast over the green bush
from the back. Now the first
branch is finished, and at this time
for the second one, now it is apt for you. You can move to the
anti layer from the top of the other
bush and create a new branch with its own unique and special bundles
of sweetness. But there is another way which
you may prefer if you want to spend your attention in
other kinds of details, you can delete this layer and having selected the
layer of the red branch, you can go to the top of the screen and selecting
the move tool. You can press the Copy and Paste button from the bottom panel. After this moving to the layers, you can see that now there are two layers with the
same branch model. Having selected the
Inserted Image layer, you will want to use the move
tool to move it away from the first branch and place
it over the left side Bush. Firstly, let's flip horizontally the branches and then having the uniform option select that, move their branch to the left by dragging it selection
from outside. If you want to
re-size the branch to make it fit the
size of the bush. Drag the rectangle from the
corners inside the shape. After you've placed it
over the left side bush, you will use the move tool
on work to modify the shape of this branch to make its shape look different
from the first. Makes sure that
as for the first, the little circles reach and come out of the
edge of the Bush. Be careful to not
disturb the circles, the image by stretching
them too hard. After you are pleased with
the position of the branch, you can go to the color palette and selecting a different color, let's say this
grade that will be found later on the illustration, you can drag the color from the corner and fill the
shape of the branch. And with this, the two branches are finished and you're ready to take them to the
next level with some beautiful light and shadow.
5. The Branches - light and shadow: In this step, you will take
further the illustration by improving the look of the
background declarations. You will do this by playing with the oman brush and
with light and shadow colors in order to give volume and shy to the branches, the first thing you
will need to do is to drag the last
white branches on the top of the
first Bush in order to have them grouped two-by-two. After that, having the layer of the light branches selected, click on it and select the Alpha Lock from
the shown panel. Then you will be able to
create some beautiful shadows using the darker nuance of gray from the
bottom right side. Of course, before
starting makes sure that among brush is selected
from the brushes. Now that you are ready, let's zoom in and focus on
the bottom left side of the little circles using diagonal moves to describe
some delicate shadows. This will ensure
that the shadow from the branches matched
the ones of the bushes. Keep going over each
little white bundle, including the brand as
well as its surface will catch some of the shadow
made by the little circles. Of course, this
diagonal manner of shadowing the circles
is not mandatory. You can add a little bit of diversity so the
shapes don't look flat after each of the little circles has
received its side of shadow, you can use this dark
gray color to create small details over the light
side may be describing some little lines or strives
to make the shapes look more interesting and give
them a bit of personality. Use these kinds of details
scarcely to avoid repetition. These kinds of details
can feel like fresh hair. Once you know that
there are power, won't stay in numbers, but simply in their
scarce presence. Now that the small wide
brand has found stem shadow, it is time to move
to the next branch, the red and colorful one. So let's go to the layers and selecting the layer
of the red branches, press on it and make sure the Alpha Lock
option is checked. Now that the shape of
the branch is secured, you can go to the color palette, and this time you can pick the lighter nuance of pink
from the bottom-right side. As you can see, you can
use as accents of color, both light and shadow. So this time you will
create some pink patches of light on the top right
side of this cube buds. Take your time to cover with a little bit of light each top right side of this circles to make them look nice and round. Feel free to give a little bit of light to the
branches as well. To not make them a strange
from the little circles. Look at how sweet these
branches look now that there is a little bit of
light casted over them. As for the white branches, you can add those tiny details
described as small lines or stripes that go inside the dark red from the
bottom left side. These lines are quite
random and freely placed. So don't think too much
when you are creating them, but make sure you don't
overdo them either. And of course, don't forget to cast a little bit of light over the middle brands
as well to make it pop out in front of the bush. Take your time to add any
smaller details as they bring a lot of variety and
diversity to the composition. And with this, the
medium and small shapes of this background
decoration are finished. And you can now prepare for the big shape of this
gorgeous composition.
6. The Vase - big shape: Congratulations
for coming so far, looking at how wonderfully
the composition is going. Now before moving further, it is time for a
little bit of cleanup. So let's go to the layers and pressing on the
white branches, selects from the shown panel the Merge Down
option in order to have on one single layer the white branches and the
bush from the left side. Then having selected
the red branches, click on it and press once
more the merge down option. And now that you have the two layers of the
bushes and the branches, drag the layer with the
red branches underneath the other one in order to
have it more in the back. Congratulations, now
you are ready to create the big shape
of this composition. And that is a beautiful
big round vase just in-between the two
bushes on a new layer. To create this base, you will use this
gorgeous orange color from the bottom left side
of the color palette. And because you will want to create the contour
of the next shape, the inking brush should be
selected from the brushes. And now you are ready to draw. For the beginning, you
will want to trace a gorgeous round circle. As you can see, this circle doesn't need
to be perfectly round, but this time make
sure you hold down the bottom after
closing the circle. This way you will obtain a
beautiful uniform circle shape after the circle is created and on the top of the
screen has appeared, the Edit Shape option. You can click on it and select either an ellipse
or circle option, but you don't want to make
this circle perfectly round. Actually, it will be
rather a wider lips so the vase can look nice
and comforting, rectal. It'll point to the sides until your circle looks a little bit more flattened and relaxed. And after that, you can
drag the color from the corner and fill this
gorgeous round shape. It is so comforting to see such a sweet and bright shape hiding between those two bushes. If you feel like the vase
is covering too much of the bushes or you
need to re-center it. You can use the move
tool on the uniform to make it smaller or
drag it around. And now that the round shape
of the vase has been done, it is time to create
the neck of the face. So let's move a
tiny bit closer and taking a little bit of
distance away from the middle, create one side of the square, then the right side and the top. A small little square that will signal the
neck of the vase. Very sweet and simple, one step further, and the shape of the vase
will be finished. Let's get closer to
the neck of the vase. In order to create its mouth, you will draw the mouth by creating a C-shape
on the top left side of the square and a reversed
C-shape on the other side, just a tiny bit bigger. Then you can link the two
C shapes on the top with a curved line in order to
obtain this sweet bean shape. And then you can
feel the mouth of the vase with this orange color. And if you feel like bring any more refinements,
you'll find useful. As you can see, even
these round shape that occupies a big part of the
background composition has small details that make
it look special and give his character after the neck and the map of the
vase are done. The whole vase is ready to gain some gorgeous round volumes by playing with
some warm colors. So let's jump into
the next step.
7. The Vase - colorful textures: Now, as you can see, the big shape of the
background has found this place in-between
these beautiful bushes. And now it is time to transform the flat
look of the vase shape into one that is much more full of volume and color diversity. So let's start by going to the brushes and pick up the
texture to keep the brush. And now that the brushes ready, let's go to the
layers and having the layer of the big
round face selected, press on it and select the Alpha Lock option
from the panel. At the beginning, we will cast some beautiful light
over the round vase. So you will use this
bright yellow from the top right side
before everything else. Makes sure that the size of the brush is at a
comfortable level. Now starting from the top
right side of the shape, use circular motions to slowly move to the
middle of the vase. As you can see, this texture, the yellow is a little bit
more concentrated on the edge of the shape because the light comes from
the top right side. As for the other shapes, as you continue applying this yellow more and
more into the shape, you will notice that the
yellow will change from being light accent into being the
actual color of the face. So make sure you bring down the intensity of
the yellow color by going over the entire shape once more with a light
paths of orange. This yellow is a very
strong and bright color that can break the shape
that you try to counter. So use it with a lower
flow and more scarcely. Let's get a little bit closer
to the mouth of the vase. And using a smaller
brush size captured the top right side of the mouth and the right
side of the neck. This is very
important to help the identified the whole
shape of the objects. So don't forget to accentuate any right
edge of this space. Now, it is time for a darker and more intense color for the shadow part
of this phase. So let's go to the
color palette and pick the dark orange from
the bottom middle side. Now because this color will
signal the shadowed side, you will move to the bottom
left edges of the vase shape, concentrating this color
accent right on the edge to make the shape of the neck and the mouth pop out
from the background. Zooming out and increasing
the flow of the brush, you will slowly descend on
the left edge of the vase using more linear or
curved outside motions. Keep the dark orange color
away from the yellow in order to create a smooth
gradient between the colors. Now, even if this orange color, it looks beautiful on the vase, the shadow is still
not intense enough to have the shape detached
as a round shape. So you will move one
step further and grab the intense red from
the middle left side, follow the outside part of
the orange arrow and apply a small quantity of this orange following the circular
shape of the vase. Look at how much
more beautiful and interesting this gorgeous
round vase looks. Now, don't forget that
this shadow should be found on the left side of the
neck and the mouth as well. So make sure the size of
the brush is smaller. And you can concentrate this beautiful red on the neck
of the face and the mouth. This red color helps
a lot to create. Encountering the round
shape of the face. Take your time to
capture the light on your object as
lovely as you can. If you feel like you can
use the original color of the vase as a texture color in order to make more
clear and visible, the three colors of the vase. Look at this incredibly
looking orange vase. It feels like a lovely cell anti with this round shape
and hearty color. Now, of course we cannot
let this face empty. Let's move to the
next step to put in this lovely face a
tiny little plant.
8. Little Leaves - small shapes: This, that will be
very short and sweet. So let's get ready for it. As you can see, the big
shape is done and has found its place between
the two pretty bushes. Now we will create
a link between the color of the
bushes and the vase. By placing some
greenery in the vase, you will start this step
by going to the layers and adding one more layer
on top of the face. Having this layer selected, let's go to the color
palette and pick the middle green from
the top left side. Of course, because you
will want to firstly create the shape of
this lovely leaves, you will need the inking brush. Makes sure that
the opacity is at maximum and the size is
at a comfortable level. Let's get a little bit closer
to the mouth of the vase. And start by placing a curved line that stands
for the stem of the plant that leaves from
the inside part of the mouth and descends down
over the vase surface, make it quite thin and delicate, just like the branches. Now you will add three
leaves on this lovely planned one big edits
and over the vase. And two on the top, starting with the
one from the bottom, make it big and oval about the size of the neck and
the mouth of the face. Going for the second leaf, Let's create a long
petiole going to the top and then a beautiful all shaped
going to the top as well, a bit smaller than
the first one. Very simple shapes. Now to bring a little bit of balance and harmony
between the two shapes, you will add just one more leaf, even smaller, right on the top. It is very interesting
to play with different numbers when it
comes to illustration. One big vase to Miriam bushes
and three small leaves. Now, if you want to play with
the position of your lips, feel free to use
the move tool on warp to make it fit
the frame perfectly. As you can see, these
leaves make a connection between the big yellow
vase and the two bushes, not just recolor, both
reshape as well at the end, after you've made
your leaflets nice and snug one next to the other. You can use the eraser
from the top to get rid of the rest of the
standard goes inside the face. Very simple. Take your time to make any more adjustments over
the shape of the leaves. Maybe you want to make
them look a bit more pointy or interesting looking. And now that the shape of
the little leaves is done, it is time to play
with some light and shadow as for the little bushes. So let's go to the
layers and press the Alpha Lock button
for this layer. Now from the color palette, you can pick this
beautiful blue color from the bottom middle as
this color will contrast gorgeously with the color
of the vase at will make the leaves look very
special and beautiful. And now let's go
to the brushes and pick the textured brush. Now you are ready to cast this beautiful blue light onto the top right side
of the three leaves. Make sure that the brush size matches the size that
you need for the light. So make sure you decrease the
size of the brush and you increase a little bit of the opacity to have
more efficiency. And now let's apply this
beautiful blue onto the leaves, making sure you lift
some of the color from underneath on the left
side of the leaf and use circular motions
to better describe the round look of the pretty
little leaves at the end. Don't forget to create a little bit of
light on the stem as well to make the
standard look much more sweet and less contrasting. Now let's not forget the shadow. So you will pick the dark green
from the middle top side, make sure that the size
of the brush is low. And then you can start creating the shadow on the bottom
left side of each leaf. This will help their
shapes stick out from the background and look
much more interesting. You can apply some
of this shadow on the little petioles and
on the status as well. To make much more obvious, the way the stem
bands after this, all that is left to do is to create some cute veins
for these leaves. So let's go to the
color palette and pick once more the green
from the top left side. After this, you can
grab from the brushes, the inking brush to be able
to trace this feather lines, one middle vein for
each of the leaves. And now you can
take your time to add on each side of the leaf two or three lines
that lift from the middle line at
a 45-degree angle. If you make these lines
a little bit curved, You will enhance even more
the curvy look of the leaves. And with this, the
beautiful backgrounds, decorations are finished. The two bushes, the big orange
base and a tiny leaflets, already create a
gorgeous composition that stands out on its own. It is very important to help the shaves harmonized
one with each other by exchanging colors and
finding subtle color contrast. Now it is time to bring the plate for our
delicious dessert. So let's move to the next step.
9. The Plate: In this step you will
lay down the plate for the tasty Eclair desert. So let's firstly make
some preparations. First of all, you will go
to the layers to bring together all the beautiful
elements created till now. So starting from the top, progress on each of the layers and select the merge
down from the panel, repeat the process until all the declarations can be
found on one single layer. Now, if you press the Move tool and you
set it on uniform, you can see that all the
elements have become one and can be moved together to
be made bigger or smaller, or to center them better in the middle
of the illustration. Now, let's go to the Layers and create one more layer on top of the others in order to make space for the beautiful plate. Because first of all, you will begin
with the contrary. You will need to pick the
inking brush from the brushes because we want to harmonize the background colors with
the foreground elements. For the plate, you will use the same beautiful orange
color used for the vase. Now let's get closer to the
bottom of the composition. Start by tracing a
horizontal line a bit smaller than the
wideness of the vase, which will stand for the
bottom of the plate, for the sides of the plate, you will add two short lines that goes to the
top at an angle. And now let's close the shape on top with a slightly
curved down line. After the shape is closed, you can drag the color from the corner and fill the
shape of the plate. Of course, for the moment
the play doesn't look great, but now you will
use the move tool on work to refine the
shape of the plate. First, let's rug
underneath the plate the two bottom corners
to make the underside of the plate nicely and smoothly curved and then
stretch the top of it, the sides until the top edge
looks more symmetrical. Drag the middle of the top edge down to
make it look round. At the end, it doesn't need to look perfectly symmetrical. And now let's use the move tool on the uniform to make the plate seem a bit bigger and drag it underneath the bush from
the left end the vase. After you've established
the position of the plate, you can unselect the Move tool. And now you are ready to create the inside part of the plate. So let's go to the
color palette and grab the dark green from
the top left side. Now let's trace a curved
line from left to right to make it a little bit more
curved than the front edge. This dark color will contrast
beautifully with the desert and it will complement a lot the orange
color of the plate. You can take your time to
make any more adjustments or fix any weird-looking
angles. For displayed. It seems like the flat
bottom is a little bit too harsh for the cursive and
round shape of the plate. So let's add a curved line on the bottom and feel what's
left of the bottom. And with this, the shape of
the plate is finished and it is time to give it some
color, variety and volume. For that, you will have to go to the layers and alpha lock
the layer of the plate. Now, because we will start
with an element of design, Let's grab once more
the dark color from the corner to have better
control over the lines created. You can adjust the position
of the canvas just so the plate can stay
in a vertical position. Now let's create a line over the orange side of the plate
parallel with the top edge. Make the line closer
to the top edge. After this is done, the orange color of the plate is ready for some
light and shadow. So let's grab from
the color palette, the intense orange
color from the bottom, middle and from the brushes, the textured QV brush. Now because we want to apply the texture color only on the
orange side of the plate. You will need to use
the selection tool on automatic and select only the
orange side of the plate. After the selection
has been made, grab the brush once more. And now starting from the
left side of the plate, apply this intense
orange color to the left side as that side is the one that will
be in the shadow. After a couple of passes, you can change the color into the yellow one and create
the light side of the plate. Make sure you keep the
dark orange color for the left side and the light
yellow for the right side. If the orange color of the plate has been covered completely, you can reapply it to
the center of the plate in order to regain the
beautiful color transition. Now, as for the vase, we want to make the shape of the plate to pop out
of the illustration. So let's use the
intense red color as a stronger shadow for the
left edge of the plate. Don't go too far
with this color and try to limit the surface
covered to the edge. Baby moving a little bit
under the left side of the plate as well to
intensify the shadows. And with this, the orange side
of the plate is finished. And there is one more
thing left to do. Let's firstly, under the
selection of the orange color. Now you will want to select only the tiny design line
from across the plate. This line will look like
silver line in no time. So let's grab from
the color palette, the darkest gray color
from the right side. And now grabbing the brush, you will apply this gray color only on the right
side of the line. Make sure you take
just a little bit of distance from the
right side as well. After this gray looks saturated and intense
in the middle, you can go further and
grab the lightest shade of gray from the top and add it to the center of the last
gray color to signal the strong light reflecting
on the small silver line. A couple of more passes, and the plate is ready to
welcome the delicious dessert. So let's undo the
selection made. Look at how nicely the plate matches the
vase from the back. Now let's get into some bakery.
10. The Eclair - the bakery: In this step, you will
begin preparing the desert that will be displaced on the
plate created previously. The first thing you
need to do is to go to the Layers and create a new
one on top of the plate. After this is done, let's make sure
the inking brushes ready for drawing the shape, the colors used for the bakery, or the cream colors
from the right side. Let's start with the
middle beige color. As you can see,
these colors were used previously for
the background. And this will have
the composition harmonized even better. Now let's begin by
creating on top of the plate as
simple wide trapeze, starting with a two sides and then adding the
bottom and the top. After the four sides of
the trapeze are placed, you can fill a shape
with the same color. Now that you have
the main shape, you can start
developing the volume. So let's start by
adding on each side of the trapeze half of a circle
and fill the two shapes. After this, you can
turn the canvas to have a better position
in order to add to the bottom a little bit
more volume to make the bakery look
fluffy and delicious. And of course, let's add a
little bit more to the top. Of course, this can be made with the move tool set
on warp as well. So make sure you
choose the method you find suitable for
your working style. And with this, the shape
of the bakery is done. Let's now play inside the shape to create some tasty textures. For that, let's go to the layers and
pressing on the layer, select the Alpha Lock
option from the panel. Now, from the color palette, you will want to pick
the darker shade of badge from the top. Now you are ready to trace some beautiful horizontal
stripes across the bakery, living from inside the
shape and making the lines wider as they go to the right in order to create
a sense of volume. These lines don't need to
be perfectly parallel. Four or five lines will
cover enough of the surface and create that emblematic
Eclair fluffy Luke. And now it is time for some
textures or the textures, you will use the
selection tool set on automatic to firstly select
a light color of the bakery. After all the light
cream color is selected, you will pick from
the color palette, the dark green
badge from the top, and from the brushes, the lovely textured brush. Now, very lightly apply some of these textured color over the
bottom side of the bakery. Very lightly going
from left to right, just to break the flat
look of the color. For the bottom of the Eclair. You can use even
this dark brown from the bottom left side to suggest
a little bit of a shadow. Just a tiny bit more
dark beige color. And now it is time to undo the selection
made of this color and make a new selection of the stripes created
across the bakery. Let's pick up the brush and select from
the color palette, the brown from the bottom left. And now lightly go
over these lines, creating an uniform
textures over them. Keep applying this
color a couple of times until the stripes
become a bit more brownish. With this, the baked
size of the Eclair is done and your dessert is ready
for a delicious stuffing. So let's jump into
the next step.
11. The Eclair - delicious glaze: In this step, you will create a delicious chocolate coating
for the tasty Eclair. So let's start by
going to the layers and unmake the alpha
lock down for the cake. After this, you can go
to the color palette and pick the Brown used
previously for the textures. And from the brushes, you will pick the
inking brush in order to create the
contour of the coating. This coating will
cover the top side of the Eclair and we'll have a
melty and delicious look. Let's start with
the left side of the Clare with a curved line to signal that this
creamy chocolate cover is covering the back as well. And then you can continue the
line in front of the Clare, making a wiggly line till the
right side of the bakery. Now let's trace the
top of the cream with a straight line reaching the
right side of the cream. And after this, you
can feel the shape created with the same
delicious brown color. After the entire shape
of the tapping is done, it is time to give it
a glaze, shiny look. For that, you will need to
use the selection tool on automatic to make a selection
of the chocolate glaze. And now let's change
the color into this caramel like neons
from links to the brown. Now using the same brush, you will trace across this brown color a
couple of stripes, starting with a
white one on top, making this glaze extra shiny. And now underneath the first, you will add two more lines to make it look extra
lazy and textured. After this, you can get
a little bit closer and add tiny shiny spots
on the brown color. Just the base of the glaze where it gets those
tiny drippy edges. These tiny details will make the final result look extra
delicious and appetizing. So try not to skip this at the end under the selection
made of the tapping. And now that the delicious
coating is finished, it is time to create some even more
appetizing decorations on the top of the
chocolate coating. This will take the desert at a completely mouth-watering
level of deliciousness. So let's go to the
color palette and grab the beautiful light gray color
from the top right side. And now it is time
to make some thin and very decorated results. So starting from the left
side of the coating, coat down and then backup
with some curved lines. Press harder or lighter
on the pen in order to obtain different level of thickness for these
delicious results. Start from the top
pressing lightly, descend, pressing harder,
and then go back up gradually applying
less pressure. After the three curved
shapes are then, take your time to
make these lines extra beautiful
and eye-catching. You can add a bit more to their thickness
on the lower side in order to make
these results look more hardy and consistent. Make sure that the lines from
the top are curving slowly down in order to make them look like they are going in
the back of the desert. And they are not present
only in the front side. These curved lines don't
need to be perfectly smooth as they are actually
quite small and liquid. After the main shape of
the results is done, you are ready to cast
a little bit of shadow on them to give them
a sense of volume. So let's use the
selection tool on automatic deselect the
delicious results. After they're all selected. Let's grab back the oman brush and pick from the color palette, this light cream color from
the bottom right side. And now getting closer, apply this subtle shadow on
the bottom of each U-shape. Letting the brush make interesting and
free-flowing shadows, keep the top side of the
results out of shadow. You can as well, added over the top of the tree cells where they go
to the back of the Eclair. And now you will make
this Eclair look even more mouth-watering by
adding some small details. So let's go to the
color palette and grab once more the light
gray from the top. Now, following the
direction of the results, create small lines
over the chocolate. By adding these small
sprinkles of cremate results, you will make the
desert look much more realistic and appetizing. And with this, your
delicious Eclair is getting closer and closer
to its complete form. Because we love our deserts, extra fluffy and heavenly good. Let's get into the
next step to fill this Eclair with some gorgeously
looking whipped cream.
12. The Eclair - frosting filling: And now it is time for the
delicious whip cream feeling. You will see how easy and interesting it is to
work with layers. Let's firstly make sure the layer of the
glare is selected. Now let's go to the top and
click on the selection tool and make sure that the Freehand option from
the bottom is selected. After this, you are
ready to cut the glare into pieces using the
free hand option. So leaving from the left side, you will trace a line on top of the Eclair crossing to
the right side of it. And then with the same line, you will cross the middle of it, reaching the point
from where you started and pressing
the white button. And now that there has been
a selection of the top side, you will create a
copy of this part of the desert by pressing the Copy and Paste
button from the bottom. And now you have obtained
a new layer with the top of the
desert to reveal it, use the move tool on the uniform and drag it on the
top of the desert. And just like that, the top of the Clare is
on a separate layer, then the bottom one. And you can now place a beautiful layer of
whipped cream between them. But first of all, you will need to go back
to the original layer of the desert and
using the eraser, you will get rid of the top side that was
left between the two. And just like that,
your Eclair is ready to be filled with
some delicious width cream. So let's go to the layers and selecting the layer
of the top side, use the move tool on it to drag it closer to
the bottom side. Let's end the
selection tool now, and let's go to the
layers to create a new one between the
two pieces of Eclair. And now you are ready to create the shape of the whipped cream. So let's firstly pick the elegant inking brush and then choose from
the color palette, the most light color
from the top right side. And now starting from the
left side of the desert, trace a line on top underneath
the layer of the top. Now going back to the
left side creates some white U-shapes inclined a little bit to the left side. Keep on repeating the shape until you reach the right
side of the Eclair. At the end, use the
eraser to get rid of any extra weird looking edges. And then you can start filling. Inside the contrary,
you have created each of these beautiful
whipped cream ornaments. At the end, use the
eraser to get rid of any extra weird looking edges. Make sure the two ends of the whipped cream
are nice and curvy. Now that this lovely
frosting shape is finished, you can create some
gorgeous patterns in this delicious failing. So let's firstly use
the selection tool on automatic to make a
selection of the feeling. And now let's pick from
the color palette, the gray color from
underneath the white. And now let's get closer. As for the beautiful results
from the top of the desert, you will want to create some consistent shadows on the bottom of each lovely curve, making them look like some beautiful waves
going to the right side. After you are done shadowing the underside of
the whipped cream, it is time to create
a simple shadow just underneath the top
half of the Eclair. Making this line
wobbly and irregular, just like the cut many
through the Eclair. Going back to the left
side of the cream, you will create in the
whitespace left free to more concentric lines following the same direction as the
shadow from underneath. Let's slowly move
to the right side, making sure each of
that delicious creams, swirls is nicely captured
by this gray color. Very simple and fun to
make this whip cream. It really took this
desert to the next level. Now, at the end, you can unmake the selection
of the white cream. And using the eraser, you can create small cuts
into the edge of the cream in order to make them a little bit less symmetrical and repetitive. And maybe more interesting. Look at this beautiful Eclair, how fluffy, lovely it looks. And with this, your
delicious Eclair is done. And you are ready to welcome the next star of
this illustration, and that is the ice cream. Let's jump into the
next exciting step.
13. The Ice Cream Cup: The illustration is
so close to being perfectly finished and
ready to be enjoyed. But before that,
we need to welcome the second desert of
our illustration. And that is a cup
of tasty ice cream. Before starting to build
the shape of the cup. Let's firstly go
to the layers and having the layer of the
Claire tab selected, press Merge Down until the Eclair is placed
on one single layer. After that, having selected
the layer of the Eclair, you can use the move tool on the uniform to better
place it on the plate and maybe make it bigger or smaller to better fit the
plate and the composition. And now you are ready
to create the cup. So let's add one more layer
on top of the last one, preparing for the cup
for the ice cream. Let's firstly go to
the color palette and pick this middle grade
from the right side. And of course, because we will create the
contour of the shape, you will need the Amon
brush from Inking. And now we can
create this cup on the right side of the
Eclair right over it. Don't worry, we will
later reposition it. Let's firstly trace the
bottom of the cup as a straight line about half
of the size of the Eclair. And now let's trace
the two sides as two vertical lines going
at a slightly wide angle. To close the shape, all you need to do is
to trace a line on the top side and fill
the shape with color. After the shape is
filled with color, you can use the
eraser if there are any lines that go
out of the counter. As you can see, the shape
does not look perfect. And that is okay. Perfection is not what
we're looking for. Of course, you can use
the move tool on warp on the cup to correct any
kind of irregularities. And to give it a slightly
more interesting shape. For this one, it feels like the two top corners could be
a bit more edgy and perky. After you're satisfied with
the shape of your cup, you can go to the layers and drag the layer of
the cup between the background elements and the plate on which
the Eclair stance. After this, you can use the move tool to
adjust this position. Make sure the Cup sits nicely on the right
side and there are no small details
around it that can create conflict with its
shape or look unpleasant. After a few more adjustments, the shape of the cup is ready to receive some
beautiful light and shadow and some delicate
design elements just like for the plate. So let's go to the layers and alpha lock the
layer. After that. Let's go to the color
palette and firstly pick the orange color use previously for the
vase and the plate. Now let's create a line near
the top edge of the cup, just like for the plate, but this time nice and straight. Don't make it too thick as this detail should look
very fine and delicate. After the line is traced, you are ready to create
the shadow and the light. So let's use the
selection tool to select only the great
color of this cup. Now that the selection is done, make sure the textured brush is selected from the textures. And then let's begin by creating the light with
this white from the top. Now starting from
the right side, progressively build this light until you reach the
middle of the cup. Make sure you use vertical moves in order
to create this slide. After the light is created, let's use the dark gray
from the bottom to create a little bit of
shadow on the left side, again, using vertical moves to create an even stronger
shadow and texture. You can use the green from
the top-left side as well. Borrowing just a tiny bit
of color from the bushes. Just a tiny bit of dark
gray in the middle. And the cup has received a nice and realistic
looking volume. Let's under the selection now. And getting closer, make a new selection of the
orange design line. This line will look like
a gold line in no time by playing with a little bit of white and yellow on
the right side of it. As for the previous design line, don't go to the right
edge completely, leave just a tiny bit of space. After the white and the yellow light are
placed on the right side. Use a red color to
get the left side of the line much more
contrasting and dark. And after this, the whole cup is finished and it is ready
for the ice cream. If you want to bring
any changes to the cup, this is the perfect time. Look at how beautifully the cup matches the white branches from the left and the delicious whipped cream
filling of the Eclair. And now let's get into
the last step and bring the ice cream to this
delicious and sweet moment.
14. The Ice Cream - and the toppings: Look at how beautifully
the composition looks. Now, everything
that's left to do is to go to the fridge and
bring the ice cream. Let's go to the
Layers and create one more layer on top
of the ice cream cup. To create the contrary, let's make sure the
inking brush is selected. And let's pick from
the color palette. Firstly, this
gorgeous brown color, because we will start with some delicious chocolate
ice cream nano to create this first
scoop of ice cream, let's create a flat
line underneath the top edge of the
cup to the left side. And then a wide and a little
bit curved line on top. You can make it as you want, a little bit flat or round. It doesn't really matter. In the end, it will look
delicious no matter what. After the first scoop of
chocolate ice cream is created, it is time to create
the second variety. So let's go to the colors
and pick the white from the top at the right side
of the chocolates coupe, as before, create a flat line and then a wide
semicircle on the top. Very simple to do. Let's fill the shape
with the same color. And now, if you want, you can use the
selection tool to select each of the
scoops and play with their shapes in order
to make them better fill the space from
inside the cup. After you are satisfied with the shape of the two
ice cream scoops, you can go to the
layers and drag the layer of the ice
cream underneath the layer of the cup in order to make them appear inside the cup. And now you can use the
Move tool once more on the ice cream to make it
sit even better in the cup. In this case, it looks like
there is too much ice cream inside the cup until
little visible outside. So let's use the move tool on uniform to bring them
a little bit higher. Let's now and select
the Move tool. And now it is time to play with some color on the two shapes to give some delicious flavors
to this ice cream scoops. At first, Let's pick the textured brush
and from the colors, this bright yellow from
the top right side. And now use the selection tool
to select the wide scope. Now, this will be some
vanilla ice cream, so let's lightly pass over its entire shape with a
little bit of this texture. And then you can
focus on creating the bottom left
side more intensely colored in order to bring the flavor color into
this illustration, Let's bring one
more dark tone to this vanilla scoop with this caramel neurons from
the bottom left side. Just a little accent of this textured color
will be enough to bring just a tiny bit more
delicious flavor to this vanilla ice cream scoop. After you're satisfied
with this first scoop, Let's undo the selection and make a new one of the
chocolates scoop. For the chocolate flavor, you will create some
intense orange highlights. So let's pick this
beautiful caramel shade of orange and moving from top-left to write slowly bring that beautiful color into
the shape of the scoop, slowly creating a
gorgeous gradient. Let's now pick the
intense orange color from the middle and
applied only on the right side of
the top to better signal the direction from
which the light is coming. As you can see on the
bottom left side, both of the ice cream
scoops are much more intensely colored and dark. Now let's undo the selection
of the chocolate scoop. Ice cream is done. Now let's not forget that
any dessert look much more delicious and appetizing once you get those toppings to work. So let's go to the brushes
and pick the Amon brush. Because caramel is
delicious choice when it comes to toppings, you can use the orange color
from the bottom left side. Now, as for the ETE layer, let's create some wiggly lines across the shape
of the ice cream, following the round shape of it. Remember to press
lighter or harder in order to obtain some
small variations. So you can give that beautiful,
sticky, delicious look. Repeat the movement. Covering more and
more of the two tabs, making the lines thinner as they get near to the
edges of this coops. Getting to the right
side of the ice cream. Keep on drizzling some
of these caramel tapping and make sure you let it drip on the sides
of the ice cream. And on the front of it, two more lines on
the right side. And now the caramel tapping is ready for a little bit
of shadow as well. So let's use the
selection tool to select each of these eye-catching
drips of goodness. After all the lines
have been selected, let's pick from
the color palette, the dark brown from
the bottom left side. And now using this
color very scarcely, you will color the
bottom side of this lines to bring a little
bit of shadow onto them. Just like you've done
for the frosting and the delicious
Eclair tapping, create this shadow
to give a 3D look to the shape and make it detach from the shape
of the ice cream. After all these ribs
have been shadowed, the delicious chocolate and
vanilla ice cream and Stan. And the illustration
is complete. Look at how beautifully the
shapes and the colors are harmonizing into this delicious and
eye-catching composition. Thank you so much for taking this Procreate
illustration class. And if you enjoyed it, feel free to leave a review
and share your project. Thank you once more and
see you in the next one.
