1. Hello and Welcome!: Nature is the most
fantastic art subject, the place where your
mind can wander freely and find curiosities
and fascination. Wherever you look,
you can only see beauty and things to
elevate your magic. Hello, my name is
Christine and welcome to a new world and colorful
Procreate illustration class. After finishing your bachelor's and master's degree
in fine arts, I've developed a great
desire to explore many different art
fields and subjects. This sparked my interest
in teaching art and sharing the knowledge
while having a joyful and relaxing time. In this class, you will create this wild looking
digital illustration by using nature-inspired
elements and palate, using vibrant
colors as language, you will attract the attention to the lovely looking Camila. You will understand the
process of creating a digital illustration using layers by going through
easy to follow steps. By the end, you will create
a whimsical chameleon climbing on the tree using
clear shapes and lines. Even though it might look
like a complicated artwork, you will quickly acknowledge
the pleasure of getting into details by following the steps and a couple of core principles, you will become more
familiar with the concepts, more confident in your
creative process, you will be very satisfied to see how far you can
take your skills, blending and harmonizing
textures to create colorful pattern and all of
that with only two brushes, an inking brush for drawing, and the textured one for light, shadow and marvelous pattern. For this illustration class, you will only need your
iPad, the Procreate app, and the Apple pencil
if you are ready for some fun times creating
this cute chameleons, let's jump into the class.
2. Introduction and Background Color: To begin this colorful
and jangly illustration, you will firstly need to create a new canvas in
your procreate app. So you will have to go to the plus button
from the corner and create a new canvas that has 4 thousand by 4 thousand pixels. This will offer you 12
layers on which you can develop and structure
your illustration. Less press the Create button. And now that the
canvas is ready, it is time to introduce
the color palette and the two brushes that can be
found on the resource pages. So make sure you download them. Let's now take a look at the color palette for this
colorful illustration, you will use multiple
tones and shades of green for the vegetation
and a couple of blues and pinks in
order to spice up the composition and make it look very alive and entertaining. Of course, you will
need some brushes to apply this wonderful colors. So you will use
the textured brush to bring the vibrating colors into the play and the inking brush to create
the counter of the shapes. Of course, you can use
your own favorite brushes, but make sure that you use
at least one brush for the drawing and one
for creating textures, or light and shadow
for the shapes. Now that your colors and
the brushes are set, It is time to conquer
the white of the canvas. You will start by changing
the color of the background. For that, you will
go to the layers and selecting the
background color layer, you will pick from the colors, this beautiful nuance
of clays green. Now because we will
want to create an interesting and
digital atmosphere for this illustration. You will create on
the first layer of the illustration, a
beautiful gradient. So let's start with a darker
shade of blue to bring a cool shade for the bottom of the canvas before
creating the gradient, Let's make sure you use
the proper brush for this. And also make sure to check the opacity of your
brush and size of it. They fit your requirements. In this case, let's
raise the opacity above 60 per cent and
the size maximum. Now, lightly starting
from the bottom of the canvas and using
horizontal motions, slowly move upward until you reach the middle
of the canvas. As you can see, the
lighter you press, the more faded and
settle the gradient is. So make sure you
apply it patiently, making the gradient visibly
saturated on the bottom side. Now it's time for some
more forest three colors. So let's introduce some of this dark green from
the bottom left side. As you will see, as you
introduce new colors, you will need to
progressively reintroduce the color from before to
create a smooth gradient. So don't be afraid to jump
back to the previous colors. Let's use a lower opacity to
help this dark green mixed with the background shade of green and with a dark
blue from the bottom. When using this dark green, tried to keep it in the
middle of the canvas and not covered too much of the
bottom or the top with it. Now as you can see, the gradient can seem
a little bit muddy, and this can be solved by reintroducing the cold you
answers from the bottom, starting with this
electric and cold blue, the second darkest,
Let's add some of this blue to make the color
slightly more vibrant. And now you can
reintroduce the dark blue and bring it back to the
lower side of the canvas. Now the dark blue looks
much better and vibrant. Let's pick once more the
color of the background and add it over the top
side of the Canvas. Learning to blend this
textured layers of different colors will
be very helpful. In the next steps. Let's bring a little bit
of life to the top side with this light yellow from the top right
side of the palette. And now you will add it
only to the top side. The dark color of the tree
trunks from the next step will look wonderful against the
warm yellow sky from the top. Let's dissipate a
little more of the dark green with a green
clay color from before. Apply this green and right in-between the yellow
and the dark green. And now the background
gradient is ready to welcome some beautiful trees
with which it will blend and set the salary
for our composition.
3. Forest Trees - Shape and Texture: Let's now take a quick
break to see how you can use the selection
tool in order to isolate the shapes
from the rest of the illustration to create
textures or patterns, or bring any kind of
changes inside the shape. Let's say you want to detach
the tongue element from the illustration in order to create some color variations. The first thing you will
want to do is to make sure the layer of the
element you want to separate is selected. After this, you will press on the Selection Tool
button from the top. After the panel from the
bottom has been revealed, you will need to make sure the automatic
option is selected. This is the only option you will need to use
for this course. And after this, you will
use the pen or the finger to click on the element
that needs to be isolated. If the color of the
element changes, it means that the
selection has been done properly and you can grab
the brush and do your thing. But there is also a way to control the level of
selection you make. So if you press on the element and you drag it
horizontally to the left, you will decrease the
size of your selection. If you drag it to the right, the selection will
increase until the entire element is selected. Let's now make a whole
selection of the element. And after this, you can
freely use any kind of brush, eraser and color
to bring changes inside the shape you
selected. At the end. After you are done
creating inside the shape, don't forget to
unselect the Move tool. Now let's get back
to our illustration and see how we can use
the selection tool. This step is very important
and interesting one, you will create some organic looking tree trunks that will help the atmosphere feel
very gently and wild. In order to create
this tree trunks, you will firstly need to go
to the Layers and create a new one on top of the
background gradient layer. Keep in mind when introducing a new set of elements
to place them on a new layer in order to have more freedom and control
over the end result. And now because we are going to create the culture of
the trees that you will need to select the
inking brush or the brush you've chosen
for your illustration. Now the color you can use for the trees is this
beautiful, darker green. Before starting to draw, make sure the opacity
and the size of the brush are at a
level that is suitable. In this case, they
should be at maximum. And now you are ready to create
the contour of the trees. Starting from the left edge, you will close the edge
of the composition with a tree trunk that
will work as a frame. Begin the line from the top and ended on the
bottom of the canvas, making sure the line
closest on the edge. Don't make it too thick. And make sure that at the pace, you curve the line
to the outside so the tree shape can
have more stability. And now let's shave
the second one. Don't worry too much about how the contour of
the shape is looking, but makes sure that the
lines are not straight. So you can give
the illustration. It's jangly vibe. Let's create one more
thin tree in the middle, this time making it a little bit more inclined to the right side. The weekly calendar of the trees will enhance the
look of this forest, making it look very
organic and free-flowing. Let's create one
more tree trunk now, getting closer to the right
side edge of the canvas, this time even thinner
than the others. As you can see,
none of the trees is oriented straight to the top. This forest needs to look
more tropical and wild. Then how straight and organize a pine tree
for us, we'll look. Now at the end. Let's close the composition
on the right side by adding a thicker tree trunk inclined to the bottom middle
and feel its shape. And with this, the shape of
the trees is finished and the layer is ready for
some colors and light. As you may notice, these trees have no branches. And that is because
they are viewed from a low level from the understory of the forest where we will meet our colorful and
playful chameleon. Now let's get back to our trees. In order to get
sunlight on the trees. You will have to go
to the layers and having the layer of the
tree trunks selected, press on it and select the Alpha Lock option
shown on the panel. After the option is ticked, the tree shapes are isolated
from the background. To create the color
textures on the trees, Let's pick from the brushes,
the textured brush. Because you will want to create light on
the three chunks. You will start slowly with the second green from
the bottom-left side. Before starting,
made sure to re-size your brush in order to
slowly build the textures. And now you will
progressively create this gradient starting from the middle of the tree trunks. As you can see, the
top of the tree trunks are free of textures because you will want to create a strong contrast with
the sky on the top side. On the bottom side
of the screen, you will do the opposite. You will build a
light textures on the trees to contrast
with a cold, dark blue from the bottom, gradually changed the
green nuances with a lighter one and applied under
the first textured color, the green and yellow nuances
from the bottom of the trees will contrast greatly with the blue purplish neurons
from between the trees. The last green shade yours
is the clays green of the background that will be applied over the green
to make it lighter. And at the end, as for the top of the sky, you will use the most
bright yellow with a low opacity to light up the bottom half
side of the trees. Lightly hovering over
the light green nuances and concentrating more
yellow right on the bottom. After the gradient is then
you can drop some more yellow here and there in order to
not make the trees look flat. And with this, the light
from the trunks is done. You can see how gorgeously the colors are blending
with each other. Now you will need to take
one step further in order to give these trees those
interesting with the textures. For that, you will
use the eraser to sculpt in the
shape of the trees. Some thin curved lines. Don't press too hard
on the pen and use long vertical lines to describe the direction in which
the trees are growing. This is a great way
through which you can help the layers combine, communicate, and create unity. Create these lines leaving from the tree counter at
a slight angle and then curve the line going upward or downward over the
tree trunk shape. These lines are quite simple
to make and they give almost a geometrical
feeling to the tree trunks, creating an interesting pattern that blends the two layers, the background and the
layer of the trees. Surely this technique can
be used in many cases in order to improve the
qualities of an illustration. The eraser can be as well personalized and use as a brush, giving it your favorite
brush texture or look. Now let's make sure the tree
from the right side gets some lovely and free-flowing
concentric lines. Because this tree trunk
is visibly wider, you can create the lines at
a slightly more wide angle, extending the lines
horizontally as well. As you can see, the
artistic language is very diverse and flexible. You don't have to create
green tree foliage or color the tree trunks brown in order to signal the
presence of the trees. In this case, using vertical organic lines and then suggesting
some tree textures. Tracing some horizontal
lines is enough to create an interesting and
creative background for the illustration. And now the background
is almost ready to receive some
beautiful green foliage. But first of all, let's break the vertical
and linear background. For that, you will need to go to the color palette and grab
the most dark green color. And from the brushes, the inking brush or your
favorite drawing brush. Before starting to draw, Let's go to the layers and undo the alpha lock so you can
freely draw on this layer. And now leaving from the top of the canvas you will create some curved lines directed
to the sides of the canvas. These vines help
the composition a lot to not feel so
high and rated. The Amon brush is
very useful when it comes to creating
lines in perspective, because you can press lighter or harder in order to
create expressive lines. As you can see from one
single brushstroke, you can create a beautiful
vine that becomes bigger on the bottom side to vines for
each side of the canvas. And now the vines are ready to catch a little bit of light. For that, you can use
the selection tool on automatic to select
only the vines. Drag the pencil to the left side until your selection
becomes smaller. In this case, the dark green of the vines combines with the
dark green of the trees, but that is no problem. Let's move to the right
side and do the same, selecting the vines and in this case that top side
of the tree trunk. And now that the
winds are selected, you can grab from the brushes, the textured brush, and
from the color palette. The second light is green. And now let's cast a little bit of light over the white side of the vines on the
bottom where they meet the two edges
of the canvas. After this is done, you can undo the selection tool. Look at this beautiful
environment created for are interesting and
colorful character. Now it is time to improve
the bottom floor of this jungle forest with
some beautiful vegetation. Now, let's move to the
next step to create some lovely leaves for the
bottom of the composition.
4. Foreground Foliage - Shaping the Leaves: Now that the jungle
forest is done, it is time to create some
diversity in shape and size with some pointing lovely leaves on the right side
and the left side. Let's start the step
by going to the layers and creating a new one on
top of the tree trunks. Having the newly
created layer selected. Let's make sure the inking
brush is selected as well. And from the color palette, you will need once more, the dark green from
the bottom left side. Now you are ready to
draw on each side of the composition for
long and pointy leaves. These leaves are formed by two curved lines that
meet in two pointy tips, one on the top and another
one on the bottom. After the shape of the leaf
is closed with the two lines, you can fill the shape
with the same color. At the end linked
a pointy bottom of the leaf with
the bottom edge of the canvas through a curved line to signal the leafs patio. Let's create the second leaf on the right side of the first, snacking it very nicely between the first one
and the right edge of the canvas before
shaped the line into two curved lines
and then fill the shape. After creating the
petiole less give shape to the next two
leaves for this side, displaying them as a fan. Let's finish this bundle of leaves with one more
on the left side, a bit lower end directed
towards the middle. Very simple. These leaf shapes. As you can see, their shapes
can vary a little bit. They don't have to look perfect. Now, it's time for
the right side of the composition to
create some leaves. When creating the contrary, remind yourself to check if the two curved lines are close
on the top and the bottom. Before proceeding
to fill the shapes, Let's vary their
shapes a little, creating a smaller one
just below the first. Two more to go, let's
create a horizontal one on the bottom so they nicely occupied the corner
of the canvas. And one more on the top are
long and beautiful one, as for the other leaves, these ones need some
beautiful and long petioles. So let's create some lines
leaving from the bottom end of each leaf and descending till you reach the
bottom of the canvas. With this, the shape
of the leaves is done. If you feel like you can pay some extra attention to the
edges using the eraser. This way you can
adjust the size of your leaves without
too much effort. Let's check the leaves
from the left corner for any irregularities or
weird-looking edges. If your leaves seem too big or her their shape attracts
too much attention. You can cut a little
bit more of the shapes, making the leaves look a bit
more sharp at their ends. And with this, the shape
of the leaves is done. Look at how nicely they decorate the frame
of the composition. All they need now is a little bit of light
over their shape. So let's jump into
the next step.
5. Forgeound Foliage - Light and Texture: In this step, you will take
further the composition by adding some gorgeously
looking light on the leaves. For that, you will
firstly need to go to the layers and having the
layer of the leaves selected, press on it and select
the Alpha Lock option. Just like you did for the
beautiful tree trunks. This will allow you to cast
sunlight on the leaves. Now, let's gradually
create the light, starting with a lighter
nuance of green. The second from the left side. And of course less make sure the textured brush is selected. Now, of course, before starting, you will have to make sure the size and the
opacity of the brush. So it's your needs so you
can lower the size to about 30 per cent and
opacity at about half. Using this green textured color, you will add it only on
the top side of the leaves as their tapes will be the ones that will
catch the light. Let's get closer and make sure the tapes gets saturated
with this color. Make sure you check each deep
and add these green to it. Let's now go to the right
side as well and give a little bit more attention
to each of the tips. Now, as you may notice, the leaves are much better
integrated into the salary. Now it is the time for the lightest nuance of green
used in this illustration. This warm and nice clay color. This will bring the
green tones closer to the bright yellow tones
used for the sunlight. Apply this light gray color, scarcely adding it
only to the tapes. You can see how natural
the leaves starts to look once you add
more color tones to them after the leaves
from the right side catch the little bit
of light gray green, it is time for some
bright yellow. So you can pick this
beautiful second yellow from the top right side. Now before applying it, make sure you use a lower size, maybe around ten per cent. So you can gradually build
this slide only on the tips. Try to build the light starting slowly from outside the shape. Don't go abruptly into it. Be very gentle when
you apply this light. You don't want to
get them burned. Let's move higher and bring this gentle and warm line
on this tip as well, concentrating the
yellow on the tip. Let's now move to the bottom-left
corner and do the same. As you can see, these light don't pass over
the half of the leafs. It sticks only to the
top of the leaves. After the warm light has found its place over the
top of each leaf, it is time to create some
interesting leaf textures. So you will have to
pick from the brushes, the inking Amon brush, and you will reduce the
opacity to about 50 per cent. Now, let's get closer to
the bottom right side of the canvas and create a
short line across each leaf, or short line that ends on
the middle of the leaf. Going back to the top, you will create some delicate
veins that leave from the middle line go towards
the edge of the leaf. These lines will
suggest just enough of acute leaf pattern so the shape of them
doesn't look flat. Let's get closer to the
other two leaves and trace two more of these
lovely and transparent lines, not forgetting to add
the sidelines as well. Let's zoom out now and
see the lovely work done. And now it's time for the
leaves from the left side. So let's move the
canvas and get closer. And now for each of the leaves, you will do the same, repeating the pattern
for each of the leaves. As you may notice, these lines are a lot
like the texture lines of the trees there of
about the same size. And they bring together the
compensation made so far. Don't be afraid of a
limited color palette when creating complex and
depth full composition, it is very important to have many colors scattered
on multiple layers. Let's change the angle
of the canvas and finish the last leaf
of this bundle. With this, you're gorgeous
set of leaves is then ready to start developing the main elements
of the artwork. And that is the beautiful
middle tree trunk.
6. Tree Trunk - Shaping the Tree: The staff will be very
exciting and creative. You will create a beautiful
tree trunk in the middle of the composition that will twist and grow to the right
side of the composition, becoming more and more thin as it reaches the
top right corner. What will be very
interesting about this tree trunk is that it
will look like no other, whether it's twisty
way of growing. Now, let's start
this exciting step by grabbing from the brushes, the beautiful inking brush, and from the color palette, the brown color from
the middle top side. Yes. This time, you will create
a brown colored tree. So it can look totally different from the ones
from the background. Let's now go to the
Layers and create for this tree trunk one more layer
on top of the other ones. After this, you are ready to create the structure
of this tree. You will begin on the lower side with the white side
of the tree trunk. That will go on the opposite side of
its growing direction. And that is to the left side. As you can see, the two lines of the contrary curve until they almost reached the
middle of the Canvas. Now it is time for the first
turn of the tree trunk, and that will be
to the right side. Let's slowly redirect
the tree trunk down to the right side, creating a shape
like a pipe elbow. After the elbow
has been created, you will slowly
make the tree trunk thinner and directed
slightly downward. It is very important to use different directions
when creating the structure of the tree trunk. Now let's create
the next segment of the tree, slowly moving upward, getting near to the
edge of the canvas, let's create two
more short segments, this time making them
nice and vertical. Now that the tree trunk has
occupied the right side, it is time to change his
direction back to the left side, make sure that the tree
gets more and more thinner and you use horizontal moves
to display the branch. Let's end the tree with
another change of direction. As you can see,
the tree grows in a zigzag manner towards the top right side
of the composition. After the contour of the
tree trunk is finished, you can add a little bit
more to his thickness on the bottom side so the trunk
can have more stability. At the end, follow the lines and make sure the entire contour is closed and there are no gaps left between
the contour lines. After that, you can drag
the color from the corner and fill the shape of the tree trunk with
this brown color. Let's fill the shape from the
bottom right side as well. And now let's add a little
bit more to the thickness from the bottom-left side so the tree won't feel unstable. And now that the shape
of the tree is finished, it is time to pay a little
more attention to the counter. So you will use
the eraser to play with angles a little bit more. Let's make this line
from the right a little bit more curved inside. So the elbows of the trees can appear thicker
than the segments. It is optional if you want to
make the tree look thinner. Take your time to give
it an interesting look. Let's move higher on the tip
of the tree and make sure it bends and twists in
some interesting ways. The look of this tree
reminds a lot of a bonsai tree being very
compact and twisty, creating aesthetic looking
angles and curves. And now that the structure
of this tree is done, it is time to create on this tree trunk some
little short branches. These little branches should be considerably thicker
at the bottom, just like the tree. Let's create two more branches on the top of the tree trunk. On the right and the left side. You can add two more additional little
branches on the site. Splitting the branch into, Let's add one more
branch on the top. And the shape of the beautiful
tree trunk is finished. Look at how beautifully
the three chunks, spirals and clients towards the top right side
of the canvas. Let's move to the
next step and create some beautiful light and
shadow for the tree.
7. Tree Trunk - Tree Textures: Now that the shape of the
tree trunk is finished, it is ready for some very
interesting anesthetic textures that will represent light
and shadow for that less. Firstly, make some preparations, starting with the oman brush. From the brushes. After the
Amon brush is selected, you will need to
go to the layers and pressing on the
tree trunk layer, you will need to set
the alpha lock for it. For the light textures
of this tree, you will need to use
from the color palette, the second Brown
from the top middle. This time for the textures, you will need to make sure the
opacity of the brush is at around 25 per cent and
the size is at maximum. And now you are ready to create these textures
following a diagonal and very wavy pattern going from one elbow of the
tree to another. Now using a very
elongated S shape, you will connect the
top-left side of the tree with the bottom
right side corner. Repeat the movement, breaking the line
from time-to-time and layering the
textures in order to create spots in which
the light is stronger. Let's move a little
bit lower and create a couple more diagonal lines parallel with the first ones. As you can see, this gives the tree a very nice
and twisty look. Of course, don't forget to
create the same pattern for the branches as well using
the same diagonal manner. As you can see, this is not
a very difficult technique, but it creates a much
more natural look. Now let's make the light
side wider at the bottom. Keep in mind when making these lines to keep
their direction and not changed very
much the point from where they are living
and where they're going. Remember as well, to leave some spots free of this slide as you will need some freespace on the dark brown for
some shadows as well. Now it is time for the
next segment of the tree. Repeat them movement
a couple of times until the light part of
the tree is revealed. By using a lower opacity, you will ensure
the light textures create a subtle gradient and they don't appear
too harsh against the dark brown color
of the tree trunk. Don't overdo it. Lets some zones free
of this light color. Let's continue with
some smaller strips of light on the bottom
side of the tree. You may notice that the spots from the trees
where you've created the light textures appear slightly larger than the
one without textures. This will make the
tree look even more twisty and
interesting looking. Now the bottom of the tree, since a little bit
too segmented. So let's create a bridge between the two light strips from
across the tree trunk, making it look much more sturdy
and solid at the bottom. After the light
textures are done, the tree is ready for some
cold dark textures as well. So let's go to the
color palette and grab the dark green from
the bottom-left side. Now following the
opposite side of the light and trying to avoid
the light side of the tree, apply this shadow using the
same style of layering. Make sure that as the light, the shadow is applied
progressively and it creates that
several gradient. Let's create one more
strip of shadow on the bottom right
side to accentuate the direction in which
the tree is growing. Let's continue with the
top side of the tree, creating shadow in-between
the spots of light. As you may notice, the dark textures
are substantially smaller and more restricted
than the ones of the light. This is because you don't want to attract too much
attention with the contrast that is too strong between light
and the shadow. After all the dark
little lines are done. You can use a higher
pressure to apply. Some widen the thin stripes of shadow on the bottom side
of the tree segments. And after this, the
tree trunk is finished. Looking at this
interesting looking tree. How beautifully it rises
from the depths of the jungle and twist
towards the top of it. And now you're beautiful. Tree trunk is ready
for the chameleon. So let's jump into the
next step and create some beautiful shapes for the body and the tail
of the chameleon.
8. The Chameleon - Shaping the Body and the Tail: Now that you are going to create the interesting body
of the chameleon, Let's see how you can play
with the useful Move tool. Let's say that you
want to modify the size or the
shape of the body. In order to do that, you will need to firstly, make sure that the layer
of the body is selected. After that, you can click on
the Move Tool button from the top in order to have
the bottom panel revealed. The two ways you will use the Move tool for
this course is on warp to have the freedom to play with the shape
however you want. And the uniform option, which will allow you
to keep the shape and modify only the size. Going back to the warp
option, as you can see, the grid appears to
have four main points, one in each corner, and nine squares
inside the rectangle. Use your pen or finger to drag the shape in the
direction desired. As you can see, these two offers a lot of freedom
when it comes to customizing and creating
interesting shapes, lines, or directions. Of course, you can do
this for any layer. So let's select the layer of the spikes in order to readjust its position now that the body
is covering more of them, Let's now see how to use the
uniform option by dragging the rectangle outside the shape by the little circles
from the corners, you will make the
elements contained inside the rectangle
appear bigger, keeping their shape at the
same time as any other tool. After you are finished bringing
any kind of adjustments. Don't forget to unselect
the tool from the top. And now let's get back
to our illustration. Look at how far you've
come in this adventure. The jungle forest is done
and you're ready to create the character of
this illustration, the colorful chameleon. You will place the
chameleon on the branch, on the horizontal segment of it to start creating the
body of the chameleon. Let's firstly go
to the layers and add one more layer on
top of the branch. After this, let's fetch
from the brushes, the brush with this brush and the most intense
light green color, we'll create a counter
of the body shape. Let's look at this
colorful chameleon and try to understand the way
its body is shaped. The first thing that you need to do when you look at
the subject that you want to represent
is to break it into smaller and easier to
understand shapes. Let's start with the
most obvious ones. In this case, you can
say that the shape of the chameleon is composed
of the body and the head. After these two simple shapes, you can identify smaller
and more particular shapes or features like the crust
from the top of its head. And it's big and fidgety. I the two visible Twinkie legs from the front
side and the tail. That is something like an
extension for the body. And just like that,
you have already identified a bunch
of features that can be represented by
easy to understand shapes like ovals,
circles, or rectangles. These shapes can be linked by more interesting features like the vibrant colors and intricate
textures and patterns. It is very important to pay
attention to details as well, like the spine spikes or
it's coiling G3P tail. These details give
a lot personality and charm to the character. And the whole illustration. Looking closer, you will find more and more details that
compose the big picture. So take your time
to find the beauty of blending colors and textures. Now, let's get back to our illustration to start
creating the chameleon, makes sure the size and the
opacity are at maximum. Let's begin shaping
the chameleon, starting with a
simple oval shape placed on top of the branch. This oval shape will be
longer horizontally. So let's start tracing
this oval shape. And after you've described
the entire Oval, hold a pencil down
until the oval becomes uniform after this click the Edit Shape
button from the top. Now let's drag the
four circles to make the shape a bit more
delegated horizontally and drag it a little
bit higher to let some free space on the
bottom so the chameleon can rest his legs
on the branch after the position of the oval
shape is established, fill the shape with
the same color. And now that the
oval shape is done, it is time to model it in
the shape of the body. For that, you will
use the move tool on warp to make the oval
shape look like a bean. With the top side a
bit more elongated to the sides where the tail and the neck of the
chameleon will be. Drag the right side a bit
higher and the left side lower. So you can make the transition between the body and the tail. Now, let's lift the belly
higher to make more room for the two beautiful
legs that will be later placed in the
front of the body. You can see how organic
the shape starts looking. Now the shape of the
body is finished. Let's unselect the Move tool. And after this, you are ready to create the curly tail
of the chameleon. You will start by creating a long curved line that continues the back of
the chameleon down. As the curve becomes horizontal, you will continue the line describing a spiral
in a circle shape. Don't make the spiral
too complicated. Now that the outer edge
of the tail is done, let's trace the inner
edge at the top side. Make sure you take some
distance from the first line, thus making the
tail appear wider. Let's now close this line with the outer one and
fill its shape. And now you will continue
the tail on the bottom side, drawing some straight
lines inside the spiral and filling
them with color. This way the spiral
can be filled and completed much faster,
having more control. Now, after you've reached
the end of the tail, you can move closer to
the corners and trace a semicircle parallel with
the outer edge of the tail. At the end, make
sure that the end of the tail is not too thin. So the shape of the tail can seem like a continuous shape. Take your time to make any more adjustments
over the counter, smoothing out any
harsh or bumpy edge. After this, the shape of the body and the
tail are finished. Looking at that spiraling tail, how nicely it continuous
the shape of the body. Now let's jump into
the next step and create the head of your
colorful chameleon.
9. The Chameleon - Shaping the Head: Now that the body of
the chameleon is done, it is time to create
the shape of the head. So let's begin with
some preparations. The first thing to
do is to create a new layer on top
of the other ones. After the layer is created, let's make sure the brush is selected from
the color palette. You will use the green
from the middle, so you can
differentiate the shape of the head from the
one of the party. As for the body, Let's begin
by creating a simple shape. This time, you will
describe a circle that crosses the body so it doesn't
seem detached from it. After the circle is closed, you can fill this
shape with color. Of course, you can
use the Move tool as well to reposition the head, maybe placing it higher
and over the body. After this, you are ready to describe the particular details. So let's undo the move tool. You will start by shaping the pretty little
cast from the top of its head that goes with
a little curve upward. And then from there, let's change the direction of the curve to form the
back of the cast. From there, let's descend
towards the right side with a line creating the
front side of the crest. And then you can fill the
shape of the crest with color. Look at that beautiful crest, how beautifully it rises
from the top of the head. Now let's move to the
lower side of the head. And living from the middle
left side of the circle, you will descend with a short line to signal
the back of the jaw. And then you can trace the
bottom side of the jaw, passing to the bottom
right side of the circle. As you can see, it is very
easy to start by creating a simple main shape and then from that shape evolve
to a complex one. Now let's create the bridge
of the nose and give the tip a little bump to signal the place where it's
little mouth will be. You can use the eraser
as well if you want to carve into the shape
and not add more to it. And with this, the main shape
of its head is finished. Take your time to
bring to the shape anymore adjustments or features. You find interesting. Maybe some tiny spikes under its head or create a special
shape for the crest. And with this, the shape of
the head is finished as well. And your chameleon is getting more and more
interesting looking. Let's move into the
next step and create a beautiful and very decorative
pattern for his party.
10. The Chameleon - Yellow Stripes: In this one, you will start introducing a new color
into the illustration. You will use yellow to create some intricate and very
organic looking lines across the chameleons body, including the tail
and the head as well. When creating this pattern, tried to describe
the lines as being curved in order to give
volume to the chameleon. Now it is time to make
some preparations before starting this very fun
and creative step. Let's begin by going to
the layers to make sure the layer of the chameleons
body is selected. After that, you will make
sure the inking brush is selected in order to create the interesting
pattern for the color, you will use the third
beautiful yellow from the top right side, the one next to the orange. Like before, you will need to separate the body
from the background. For that, you will use the selection tool on
automatic to select the body. After the selection is made less grab once more the
brush from the top. And now let's start creating some vertical lines across
our little champs body, playing with the pressure
applied in order to make the line look very
organic and decorative. Don't rush to make the lines
to take and be sure to make them appear thicker on
the top and the bottom side. In other words, the pattern will be thinner in the
middle of the body. To accentuate the wild
look of the pattern. Play with the distance
from between the lines. You can even link them on top or bottom to create
wider stripes. As you can see, two
or three lines of different lengths
can be enough to continue the sequence of shapes. Let's move further and continue creating these lines
leading from the middle of the body and then
gradually moving perpendicularly to
the edge of the body, pressing harder as
you reach the edge. Let's move the canvas in order
to have the tail displaced horizontally so you can keep the fashion in which
the lines are done. You will see that as you
go further on the tail, the lines will become
shorter and wider, which is very nice. You will want to slowly
shift the look of this pattern into one that
looks a little bit different. Tried to keep a balance between the stripes and the green
part of the chameleon. You don't want to
let the pattern take over its entire body. Let's get closer to
the end of the tail, continuing the pattern, tracing the lines perpendicularly
on the edge. Let's move slowly to the right side,
continuing the sequence. Look at how easy is to
create this pattern. These very decorative and
wildly looking stripes. A couple more, and the
pattern is almost finished. Tried to sprinkle here
under smaller lines and details so the pattern don't start to look too
repetitive and boring. Let's move to the tip
of the tail and make it look extra colorful and yellow. In the end, it will stand out gorgeously in the
middle of the spiral. A couple of more patches of yellow in order to
close the pattern. Now let's take a step
back to make sure everything looks very
beautiful and decorative. If you feel like it, you can take your time to add some extra lines here and there. If you feel like accentuating the pattern on the
back or on the belly. And now it is time for a couple of same
pattern elements for its head as well to accentuate some of its
volumes and shape. So let's first of all, under the selection
made of the body. After this, you will
go to the layers in order to move on
the layer of the head. And now once more, make a selection of the head to detach it from the rest
of the illustration, grabbing the brush, you will use the same beautiful yellow to trace on the left
edge of the crest. A beautiful and white stripe to accentuate is beautiful. Cantor. Now following the first-line, continue lower on the head
with some smaller lines, making them more and more smaller as you get
lower on the head. And after two or three
more short lines on the top of its head, you are ready for
the final detail, and that is the mouth, or better said, the
contour of the mouth. So let's get closer
to the bottom side of the head and following the
bottom side of the head, create a little swirl
for the corner of the mouth and then climb back
up to the mouth entrance, bending the line a little
bit on the bottom left side. And with this, the chameleon is now dressed in his
party costume. Look at how nicely the
yellow of the pattern harmonizes with a subtle
warm lights from the leaves. Let's move to the
next step to create some beautiful
shape for its legs. And it's very curious, I
11. The Chameleon - the Legs and the Eye: Now that you've
established the pattern from it's interesting
looking body shape. It is time to create the two little legs from the
front side of the chameleon. It can hold itself
from the top of the branch to start creating
the two little legs. You will go to the
layers in order to add one more on
top of the others. After the layer is created, let's make sure the
inking brush is selected. And from the color palette, Let's grab a darker
nuance of green so the legs can have a
different shade from the body. And now you are ready
to create the two legs. You will make them flexed so the chameleon can seem relaxed. Now, let's give shape to an elongated rectangle
to shape the upper arm, tilt it to the bottom left side. Let's fill the shape with color. And now you are going to
create the forearm living from the bottom side
of the shape with a line to grid, a small angle. And now on the outside, you will trace a semicircle, just like you would trace a shape of a lemon slice to give a nice look to the elbow and
have a bit of shape variety. After the two shapes
are filled with color, Let's continue with
the front hand, shaping three fingers with a big thumb climbing
upward on the branch. So the chameleon can
have a nice grip. Now let's move to the bottom
side and like before, create two more fingers, a bit more elongated
and parallel, going vertically
on the tree trunk. After the two shapes
are filled with color, you can take your time
for any more refinements in order to get rid of
any weird looking angles, you can even use the
eraser to sculpt in the shape if you feel
like it looks too chunky. And with this, the first leg is done and you are ready
for the next one. So let's grab the brush and move to the left
side of the body, this time creating the
semicircle part of the leg on the top
side, angled upward. After filling it with color, Let's create the second
segment of the leg, the rectangle shape
going almost at a 45-degree angle to the
bottom over the branch. See how easy it was to
create the two legs. Let's finish the last one by shaping the next three fingers. Let's create two on
the bottom side, nice and chunky, and another
one on the opposite side. These two hands don't
have to look identical. So don't stress about
making them the same, but make sure to take your
time and give a nice finish. To the contrary, the shapes can look very smooth and clean. And with this, the shape of
the two legs are finished. All that is left to do
for this time is to create a big eye in the
middle of the face, on the same layer
as the legs to keep the small elements separated
from the big shape layers. For that you will grab the color of the body, the light green, by pressing with
one finger on it until the color
circle has appeared. After that, you can move
closer to the face to create a big M beautiful
round shape for the, I, fill it with color. The chameleons, I
are emblematic, so make sure it
says is remarkable. After this is done, all the big shapes of the
chameleons body are finished, and it is time to play with
some vibrant colors on its body so it can stand out
from the beautiful forest.
12. The Chameleon - Shadow and Blue Color: In this exciting step, you will create some beautiful
and colorful textures on the green parts of the
body and the tail as well. For that, you will have
to go to the layers and make sure the layer of
the body is selected. After that, Let's grab from the brushes the texture to keep the brush so you can create some interesting
shadows and lights. Let's now grab from the palette, the second darkest
green from the left in order to create a beautiful
shadow on its belly. Now because you
will want to limit the textures only for the green, you will need to separate the green from the rest
of the illustration. So let's use the selection
tool on automatic deselect. Only the green
side of the party. Click on each small green stripe until they are all selected. Let's now move to the
chameleons tail and patiently select each
of the green stripes. Even though the chameleon
looks cute in this pink suit, let's change it
back to the green by selecting the
brush from the top. And now making sure the size and the opacity of the brush
are at a medium level, you will create a subtle shadow on the bottom edge
of the chameleon, making sure it has a uniform. And even look. As you can see, this
darker green creates a bridge between the color
of the head and the body, thus making the shapes look like they belong to one another. Look at how nice the dark green contrasts with
a yellow stripes. Let's move lower on
the tail and create a little bit of a shadow on the bottom side of
the tail as well, following the outside edge. As you can see, the texture
is actually applied outside the shape so it doesn't cover the entire
surface of the tail. A couple more passes with this beautiful
darker green color. And now the shadow part
of the body is done. And the chameleon appears to
have a much more 3D look. If you feel like paying some
extra attention to details, you can lower the size of the
brush and getting closer, you can use this small
size to make sure that dark color is
saturated on the edge. The small size will allow you as well to create shadow and contrast on smaller spaces like in-between these
two lobes of the tail. After the shadow side is, then it is time to create some colorful patterns on
the back of the chameleon, starting with a
beautiful shade of blue. So let's grab it from
the top middle side. This blue will beautifully create a transition
between the green from underneath and the future nuances of blue and purple. Again, you can see how nicely the intricate yellow
pattern is enhanced. Now, let's move lower
on the tail and continue adding this light
blue on the outside edge using a smaller brush size in order to keep the
beautiful gradient created between the colors because these blue
will be later covered. Other nuances measure, it's a little bit more dispersed
over the green. Let's add it to the
middle part of the tail, making the spiral
a little bit more colored and contrasting
than the rest of the body. Now following the inside
part of the tail, you will create a
connection with the outside edge
of the chameleon, tracing a diagonal
line to continue the colored pattern and make
it look nice and cursive. Let's accentuate this
line and make sure it has a nice curvature and
is not interrupted. Take your time to
make this pattern look extra vibrant and nice. And now that the light blue has found this place on
the back of the tail, it is time for the
second nuance, this brilliant violet
from the top left side. You can adjust the size
of the brush to make it bigger in order to have
a better coverage. As the light blue apply this violet on the
outside edge on the back, making sure you don't cover
the blue side entirely. Let's follow the edge to the left side and the
sand on the tail, making sure that edge
is saturated with this beautiful
contrasting violet blue. Getting closer to the tail, you can decrease the
size of the brush. So you can create a precise stripe of
this textured violet. And now let's move to
the end of the tail and go over the light
blue side to have this violet beautifully
contrasts with the yellow of the pattern
and the brown of the branch. Let's follow the blue until
you reach the middle, where you will accentuate
the violet to make a great contrast with the orange from the
top of the tail. Don't forget to follow the
diagonal line that crosses to the other side and link once more the two
sides of the pattern. After you are done
applying the violet, you can end this
beautiful step with the darkest nuance of glue
from the top-left side. You will use this blue to
shadow just a little bit of the back to give even more
depth to the blue nuances. Look at how deep and nice
the blue shades look. Now, let's undo the selection and the blue shades
are finished. Congratulations, look at how gorgeously the patterns looking. Let's get into the
next step to play with light and shadow on the beautiful orange
stripes of the pattern.
13. The Chameleon - Textures for the Stripes: To begin creating the light and the shadow of the pattern, you will firstly
need to make sure the layer of the body selected. After that, as you did before for the green part
of the chameleon, you will use the selection
tool on automatic to select all the
beautiful orange stripes. Start from the top side, from near the neck. Make sure you select
them all and there are no hidden stripes in the
back of the two legs. If the selection
is done properly, the orange stripes
will appear blue. Make sure you zoom in to pick
the stripes of the pattern. Take your time to admire all the intricate and
beautiful stripes created and appreciate the plasticity
of the Amon brush. How effortlessly this brush can create such beautiful
and organic patterns. After all the stripes
are selected, you are ready to
create the light and the shadow for the stripes. For this, you will use
the textured brush and the warm nuances of yellow and orange from the
top right side. For the light, you'll
use the lighter tones. So let's pick the yellow from
the top right side corner. After that, make sure the size is at a
reasonable level at about 12% and the opacity
at around 70 per cent. Now, unlike the rest
of the pattern, you will apply this yellow very scarcely and dispersed
around the pattern. Just to break the flat
look of the color. After that, you will
use the opacity at maximum and a smaller
size to accentuate a couple of edges like
the top of the tail that you will want to make
very clear and obvious. The top edge of the tail on the right side and on
the inside part as well. From the inside
part of the tail, you will avoid applying
this light on the belly. And you will move to the
back of the chameleon, creating a beautiful contrast with a violet from between them. After you've made sure the spots have been
touched by light, you can move to the next color, the beautiful and intense orange color that you will
use mainly as shadow. So you will apply it on the stripes from
the belly and move down the tail until you meet the yellow
applied previously. Now, you will avoid the yellow transitioning
to the left side of the tail and add this beautiful bright
orange following the edge, slowly descending on the
top of the tail and making sure you keep the top side of it and touched up this color. After the bottom side is
nicely contoured with orange. You can sprinkle some
of it here and there, even on the bottom side
of the end to make the pattern look much more
interesting and organic. Look at how gorgeously this fiery color looks in combination
with a green nuances. And now the colorful
pattern is almost finished. But let's not forget about the pattern from
the hair as well. To create the pattern
from the head, you will need to firstly, under the selection made
of the body pattern, then going to the layers, you will have to select
the layer of the head. And using once more the
selection tool on uniform, you will select the
yellow stripes from the top of the head and
the beautiful smile. And now let's grab the brush and add this textured color on the middle of the
strives to create a little depression
underneath the crest. And now let's add it to
the tip of the mouth to decrease the contrast
with the edge of the face. Looking at how easy
it is to grid volume using these textured
colors on the patterns. After this intense orange, you can pick up the
yellow from the palette and add it to the
top of the crest to accentuate this volume
and on the cheek as well to make it pop
out nice and beautiful. And after this, the yellow
pattern is ready to go. Let's under the selection tool, after you are satisfied
with the result, look at this gorgeous pattern, how the warm nuances
are playing and very subtly create volume
for our shapes. Let's now move to the
next step and create some beautiful blue
textures on the legs as well to integrate
them into the look.
14. The Chameleon - Blue Textures for the Legs: Let's see how we can play with some textures in order to make the legs look more integrated into the
look of the chameleon. For that, you will firstly
need to go to the layers and select the layer
of the two legs and I. After this S for the
stripes and the body, you will use the
selection tool on automatic to make a
selection of the two legs. After the selection is made, you can pick from the brushes, the textured brush, and
from the color palette, the second green
from the middle, used for the body. Now, you will use
this color to fade the transition from
between the body and the geometric
shape of the legs. Let's do the same for
the leg from the front. And then you are ready to introduce a new color
into the shape. So let's pick this
beautiful light blue. And with this blue, you will create a new segment
of the new color going over the light green
applied previously to mask the dark green
from underneath. Now, as for the back
of the chameleon, you will create a gradient
towards a new shade. So let's use this
vibrant violet to create a color textures on the rest of the two shapes covering
the hands as well. Look at how nice this color is popping on the brown
color of the branch. As you create this gradient, make sure the colors are
blending well together. You can do this by going again with the previous color
over the other one, pressing very lightly
to soften out any harsh looking
textures and transitions. Let's now get to the last color. The dark purple from
the top-left side, and the blight on the
bottom side of the legs. To lower the value
contrast from between the waitlist shape of
the legs and the branch. A few passes will be enough to them a little bit the
brightness of the color. At the end, you can bring back the volume of the
fingers by using the vibrant violet and
the low brush size to bring some light on the
top side of each finger, making the patches of
light wider on the tip of the fingers and smaller
as they reach the top. This will make the fingers
look wide and flat after each of the fingers has received a
little bit of light, the leg textures are done
and all there is left to do is to create with Amon brush and a light orange from
the top right side. Beautiful stripe of color
on the sole of the feet. The stripes will contrast greatly with the violet
color of the legs. And it will create a link with the stripes from
the head and the body. And after these two
legs are done as well, look at how wonderfully
the legs look now, matching the look
of the body with the colorful textures and
the beautiful gradient. Let's under the selection
made of the legs. And now this step is finished. Congratulations
for coming so far. Let's now focus on integrating the head as well into the
look of the chameleon.
15. The Chameleon - the Eye and the Head: Now, as you can see, the body is done and all
that is left to do is to create the beautiful details
from the head and the eye. For that, let's make sure that the selected layer is the one
of the two legs and the I. And now you can use
the selection tool on automatic to
make a selection of the eye shape in order to create inside its shape a
beautiful gradient. Clicking back on the brush, make sure that the textured
give you brush is selected and the lightest nuance of glue from the color palette as well. Now getting closer to the eye, Let's create a circle like texture shape on the
top left side of the eye as the pupil will be
oriented in this direction, make this circle nicely
saturated in the middle, letting some textures
only on the edge. Now, as in the previous steps, you will change to the next
color, the vibrant violet. And using a smaller size, you will create a new circle, letting some of the blue
still visible on the edge. After this, you will
create the eye pupil. For this, let's use
the inking brush and the darkest nuance of green from the bottom left side. Now you will create
a simple circle like shape in the middle to
indicate the pupil. It doesn't matter if it's
perfectly circular or not. You can shape it as you like. At the end, if you want, you can create one more circle
inside the last one using the dark purple from the top-left side at the end to give a beautiful
volume to the eye, you will trace some
reflections on the eye so it can
look shiny and nice. For the reflections,
you will use the light blue from
the top middle side. Now, zooming out, you will
trace this reflection like a teardrop living
from inside the pupil. Going to the right. One more little spot of
light on the bottom and the thin line on top to create
a more complex reflection. And the eye is ready to go. Let's under the selection
made of the eye. And now it is time to create some light on the
shape of the head. For that, you will need to go to the layers and select
the layer of the head. Then let's use the
selection tool once more to make a selection
of the green color. Now, as for the body and legs, you will use the texture TV
brush to create volume for the head shape in order to create a link between
the head and the body, Let's pick up the green
color from the body by pressing with one
finger on the green, make sure the size
of the brush face, the size of the head
at around 20 per cent. And now, starting from the top, you will descend on the head until you reach
the middle of it, pressing lightly on the pen
to create a faded light. After a couple of passes, the head already fits
much better the look of the chameleon and the green
is much more soft and nice. At the end you will
accentuate the light from its head using the light yellow
from the top right side. Make sure to decrease the
opacity of the brush. So you can create
this light gradually. Look at how easy it is to
create the light gradient. It really helps to
create volume for the head and it is
really effortless. Let's pass a couple
more times over the top side to diminish the contrast from between
the yellow stripes. And with this, the
beautiful head of the chameleon is done as well. Look at it's marvelous colors, how nicely they
help the chameleons stand out in the jungle forest. Let's now jump into the
next step and create some gorgeously colored rainbow
spikes on its back.
16. The Chameleon - Rainbow Spikes: In this step you
will give shape to some very beautiful spikes that will be placed
on the back end, the tail of the chameleon. In order to do that, you will need to go
to the Layers and create a new one on
top of the others. After this, let's make
sure the brush is selected from the brushes
and from the colors. Let's select the pretty ping
from the bottom right side. Now getting closer to
the back of the head, you will create
over its contours some short lines making
them thinner or wider. Be sure to trace them
perpendicular on the body and make
the tips thinner. Move the canvas and
reposition it in order to trace the lines perpendicularly
on the edge of the back. As you can see, it is very easy to
make these bikes. They don't need to
look like one another. By placing these spikes on
the back of the chameleon, you will make it stand
out through shape and not only through
color and pattern. Let's move lower
on a cell and make the spikes smaller as you
reach the bottom of the tail. After the shape of
the spikes is done, it is time to reposition
the spikes and the layers. So let's go to the layers
and drag the layer of the spikes underneath
the layer of the body. After this, it is
time to rearrange the spikes a little bit
using the Move tool. So let's pick the move
tool from the top and having the warp
options selected, you will move the grids in
order to hide the spikes more in the back and make
them appear smaller. Drag them lower and
hide them underneath the tail to make them look smaller as they
reach the bottom. This will improve the
cursive Luke of the shapes, making the spikes seem like they continue the yellow
stripes of the body. Now it is time to give
them the rainbow look. For that you will need
to go to the layers and select the Alpha Lock
option for this layer. Now that the spikes are isolated from the rest
of the illustration, you will play with their color. So let's go to the
brushes and grab the textured brush and select
from the color palette, the bright magenta from
the bottom middle. Now you will apply this
color on a couple of spikes, changing the color
as you move further. Let's create a couple
of blue spikes and a couple of orange ones. After two or three spikes change the color into
another colorful one. Thus bringing together all
the beautiful colors of the chameleon on the
gorgeously looking spikes. And with this, our festive
chameleon is ready to party. Let's jump into the
next step to adjust the position of it
into the illustration.
17. The Chameleon - Reposition: And now the chameleon is done and happy to live
in its environment. But it's size seems
a bit too small in comparison with the
rest of the elements. It needs to be a
tiny bit bigger. In order to make it bigger, you can go to the
layers and having the top layer of
the legs selected, drag each of the layers from underneath to the
right, select them all. After all the layers of the chameleon and the
tree trunk are selected, you will pick up the
Move tool from the top. Now make sure the uniform option from the bottom is checked. And now you can
increase the size of the whole chameleon
and the tree trunk as well by dragging the corner of the rectangle to the outside. Now that the chameleon
looks closer to the viewer, make sure it's centered, dragging the rectangle
on uniform option from outside its shape till
you find the perfect spot. Make sure you leave some free space on the
top of the chameleon for some pretty little fireflies at the end and do the move tool. And the illustration
is almost finished. Let's get into the last step and create some beautiful fireflies.
18. Fireflies and Sticky Tongue: And now enter this last step. You will create some
pretty little fireflies in the air to enhance the magical atmosphere of this beautiful composition. This will be a very easy step, so let's get into it. The first thing you will need to do is to go to the layers, add one more layer on
top of the others. Now let's make sure the brush is selected and then pick
from the color palette, the beautiful light
orange color. Now you will create some circle shapes
around the chameleon, starting with a bigger one on the top left side
of the composition, where are the
chameleon is looking? After filling the
shape with color, create a couple more
of these circles, placing them wherever you
like, around the background. You can make smaller
ones as well, so they seem further
from the viewer. One more little firefly bulb. And now you can go
to the layers in order to alpha lock the
layer of the fireflies. Now, using the light yellow
from the top right side, you will create a smaller
circle into the orange one. So the bulbs can seem
like they're glowing. A bit of this light, yellow on each of the fireflies, and their shape will beautifully transform into a one
that has volume. Let's move to the last Firefly
to create the less light. And now you are ready to draw some very delicate wings
for the fireflies. They seem like they're
flying around the chameleon. To do that, use the dark green from the bottom
left side and make sure you undo the alpha lock of the layers so you
can draw on it. Now, let's get closer to create the wings and the little legs. Draw them, as they would describe a couple
of tie shoelaces. It doesn't need to be
something too complicated. Let's move to the
next one and the same describing the
two lobes on the top. Two or three little legs. Make sure to adjust the size of your brush so you can feel comfortable when
making these wings and have clean and thin lines. One more pair of wings
for the last firefly and illustration is
almost entirely finished. Look at how beautifully the fireflies float
through the air. At the end, you will
create the lung and sticky tongue
of the chameleon. To create the tongue, you will need to
go to the Layers and create a new
one for the tongue. Now, using the
hormone brush and the beautiful middle ping from
the bottom right side, you will create a long
and swirly tongue, living from the mouth
with a thinner line and reaching the top left
corner with a wider one. Try to create the shape
of the tongue so it can have a very expressive
and beautiful shape. Repeat the movement until your line becomes
more suggestive. Don't forget to place
at the end of the chunk a beautiful spiral just like you did for the tail and the
corner of the mouth. After you are satisfied with the position and the
look of its pink tongue, you can use the move tool on
warp to distort the shape, making it look like it's
sticking out of the mouth. After the two ends of it, sticky tongue are placed, make sure the middle
of it that is crossing the chameleons
body does not cover any interesting or beautiful
details you want to keep visible with this deposition of the tongue and
its shape is done. Let's use the eraser
to get rid of the part of the tongue
that goes over the face. And now that the shape is done, you will want to create some
light and shadow on it. So you will use
the selection tool on automatic to
select the tongue. And now grabbing from
the color palette, the light pink from the bottom right side
and from the brushes, the texture of the brush. You will create
some light around this shape on the bottom
and the top side as well. So it doesn't look like
a flat shape at the end. To bring some vibrancy back, you will use the
bright pink to create some stronger patches of textures on the
middle of the tongue. And on the right side as well, right where it comes
out of the mouth. Just a tiny bit of
this intense pink. We'll make the chameleon look
extra colorful and magical. Let's undo the selection
made of the stung. And with this you're a
whimsical chameleon is done, and you have finished another magically
looking illustration. Thank you so much for taking this digital illustration class is being such a
