1. Hello!: Hi, my name is Christine
and welcome to this colorful and playful
Procreate course. You will find how
easy it is to create a gorgeous composition
by playing with a couple of very simple
decorative elements. You will learn how to
frame the giraffe. Very relaxing gambiense. You don't need any prior
experience in Procreate. This course is made to be very easy to follow and understand. You will have
step-by-step guidance and encouragement all the way. After this course, you will
feel confident and able to create many more
beautiful digital artworks. All you need for this
course is the iPad, the Procreate app,
and the Apple pencil. If you are ready to have a wonderful time
playing with colors, welcome to the course.
2. Background and Trees: For this colorful illustration, you will firstly need
to create a canvas that has 4000 by 4000 pixels. Let's create it and
get into the project. The color palette
you will use for this course is the coffee
type and color palette. The brushes you will need are the inking brush
and the textured, the brush that two brushes
and the color palette can be found in the resource
page of this course. At first, you will want to
set the background color. So let's go into the Layers, select the background
and into the colors. You will choose the
light blue from the bottom center of
the color palette. After this, you will
go into the Layers and then you will choose
from the color palette, the gray from the bottom middle. With this gray and the
textured KV brush, you will want to set the flow to about 60 percent and the size
of the brush at maximum. Now, you will want to create a gradient in the top
half of the background. After a few passes
around the top half, Let's reduce the flow
and add some more of this light gray on
the top of the canvas. Just to make the atmosphere of this illustration seem
a little more light. This will stand
for something like a sky for this illustration. After you have finished
applying the textured gray, you will want to go to the
Layers and create a new one. After that, you
will want to pick the owl mom brush from Inking
and from the color palette, you will choose the second
green from the top left side. Now you will create a bush
on the bottom side of it. Canvas trying to center
is right in the middle. For this, you will leave
from the bottom left side of the canvas and
create a couple of curves. And then you will close the form on the
bottom right side, keeping the little bit of distance from the right
side of the canvas. After that, you will pick the light green from the top
left side of the canvas, and you will pick the
TV brush from textures. After this, you will make a selection of the
bush and you will start to apply some light
over the top curves, increasing the flow and
lowering the size of the brush. Try to apply this light exclusively on the left
side of the curves. The light can seem like it's
coming from the left side. Super simple and easy to do. Now, let's unselect the
bush moving to the layers, you want to create a new layer. So let's go to the
colors and select the dark green from
the top left side. And then you will want to
pick the hormone brush. Now from the top of the canvas, you will create a
vertical line that descends until it gets
outside of the canvas. Hold the pencil down until
the line becomes straight. And then you can edit the
line so you can make sure it gets outside the canvas and
there are no gaps left. Now we will do the same for
the left side of the canvas, drawing a vertical line, keep the pencil down until
the line becomes straight. Now you will grab the color from the corner and you will
fill the two segments. Now, let's create to lose
parallel curves that leave from the top of the
canvas and then you will feel its shape
with dark green. Now you will want to create one more branch leaving from
the middle of the first end, going upward inside the canvas. Now let's give some branches to the tree from the left side, leaving from the top
side of the tree with two curves that and
outside the canvas. Now let's add two more curves living from the last one too, It's outside and
closing on the top of the canvas after the shapes
of the trees are done, you will want to create
some wood textures on them. So let's firstly add two concentric curves on the
tree from the right side. Now let's go above
and add another line going outside the top and another line parallel
to this one. Let's increase the size
of the brush a little bit and add half of an arc
below the other two. And now let's go near
the right edge of the canvas and create
two vertical lines, holding the pencil down
until they become straight. Now let's get a
little bit closer to the branches and decreasing
the size of the brush, you will go over the branches
and with a couple of more lines and another one on the top side of the tree trunk. Now let's move to the three from the left and do the same, going with a couple of lines across the middle
of the branches. And now you can move
to the middle of the trunk and create two ovals, one below the branches and
another one just above them. Let's add another concentric
one on the outside. Let's go with one
more on the left, a little bit shorter, and another one below the
oval from the bottom. Now let's increase the
size of the brush and add two more little curves
lower on the tree trunk. After this, let's get a
little closer to the trunk from the right and add one
more concentric curve in the middle of the two
and create some holes in the middle of the two ovals from the right side of
the other trunk. Let's create some more
textures on the bottom. So you will add two
more lines going to the top left side
and another one to the top left side going
outside the canvas, in the middle of the chunk. And with that,
this step is done. Let's get into the next one.
3. Trees and Red Leaves: For this next step, you will firstly want to create some light over the tree trunks. So let's go into the Layers and alpha lock the
layer of the trees. After that, you will go
to the color palette and big the second green
from the top left side, and the QV approach
from the textures. Now, let's increase the flow of the brush and add some
of these beautiful green on the top half of the trees going over
the branches as well. Now let's move to the tree from the left side
and do the same. You will want to focus a
little bit more on making the top side of the trees a
little more green and bright. As you can see, this bright
green helps the composition seem a little more open
and wide than before. And the top side of the
composition, after this, you can create some foliage on the top side of
the illustration. So let's create a new layer on the top of the
one with the trees. And then you will go and
pick the Amon brush and the second green from the top left side of
the color palette. With this screen,
you will create a wavy line starting
from the top of the canvas over the branches of the tree and the tree trunk. And then closing the form on the right side of the canvas. And now let's go to the left corner of
the canvas and create another wavy line trained to keep the waves a little
more horizontal. After you have filled the
last shape with green, you will want to select the two shapes of the leaves
with the selection tool. And then you will
go to the colors and using the same green, you want to increase the brightness of the
color to about 70%. You will grab from
pictures, the QV brush, and increasing the flow to about 70 percent and the
size to about 25 percent, you will start to apply
this highlight over the top of the foliage going on the one
from the right side. And then you can move
to the left side and add a few passes over the
shape of the foliage, letting just a little bit of the green from below
and the bottom side. Now let's adjust a little bit the highlight of the
bush from the back. So you will want to
alpha lock the layer of the bush and then I'm selecting
the foliage of the trees. You will want to accentuate just a little bit of
those highlights. Just a few passes
here and there, but not too much. So you don't draw
too much attention to the Bosch from the back. Now that the green
foliage is done, you will want to go to the color palette and
pick the second read from the middle left side and the Ehlmann
brush from inking. Now, let's get a little bit closer to the middle
right side of the composition and then creating a new layer on
the top of the others, you will create this point he leaves formed by two curves. Let's create another one, a bit more vertical, with a curve on the top
and another one below, leaving a little tail on the
right edge of the canvas. Now let's create
three more leaves on the opposite side
of the composition. One going upward, living a
little tail on the bottom. Another one directed to the
middle of the composition, and a little bit bigger, and one more just
below the other, with two curves going
outside the canvas. After this beautiful shapes of leaves are then
you will want to use the selection tool to select this beautiful
red leaves. After this, you'll want to
pick from the color palette, the lighter red from
the middle left side, and the QV brush textures. Now let's maximize the flow of the brush and make it
a little bit smaller. With this red, you will create some lights over the
bottom of the red leaves, baby making the brush a little smaller for some
sharper highlights, let's accentuate the
light from this one. And then you can move to the
left side of the canvas and go over the top of these
leads with this highlights, making sure you leave the bottom half of the leafs
and touched by this light. And now for the one
from the bottom, adding this wonderful
color over the darker one. Look how beautiful
and intense this red looks on the coal
nuanced background. And with this easy step, you can move to the next one.
4. Head of the Giraffe: For this next Beautiful step, you'll have to go
to the Layers and create a new one on
the top of the others. On this layer, you will create
the head of the giraffe. So you can go to the brushes and pick the album
brush from Inking. Then going to the color palette, you will pick the light orange from the bottom left corner. Now, moving to the center
of the composition, you will firstly draw an
oval and then you can hold the pen down until
the oval gets smoother. As you can see, the
oval fits nicely just in-between the
two groups of red Lee. From the left
middle of the oval, you will descend with a line directed to the bottom
left side of the canvas. From there you will create
a curve that goes to the bottom middle of your
novel, closing the form. Let's make the cheek a
little bit bigger to make the head seem more
round and beautiful. After this, you will create
the two ears of the giraffe. So you will get a little
closer to the head. And on the top side of the head, you will draw the first
year with a short line on the top and another one and
little deeper on the bottom. After that, you will
move to the right side, the head and draw
the second year, just like you would
shape a leaf. The shapes are then you can
fill them with the orange. Now you will add X2 beautiful round horns
on the top of the head, starting with two short lines. So let's create the
first and now the second little bit larger
and directed to the right. Now let's zoom out and see if everything looks
nice and neat. Now, let's go to the
color palette and pick the next orange from
the bottom left side. Now you will use the
selection tool on the head of the giraffe and then you
can pick the texture brush. Now let's get a little closer
to the head and decreasing the flow to about 55 percent
and the size to about half. Now let's place this
beautiful shadow on the bottom of the cheek,
accentuating that edge. Then you can go lightly
over the half of the face, focusing on the middle
half of the head. Now let's play some
more shadow below the nose and below the
ear from the right. And now let's add some more of this shadow on the two
beautiful ground horns. These horns will be slightly more darker than
the other shadows. Now let's grab the album brush and get a little bit closer. You're from the right, you will create a teardrop shape on the bottom side of the ER, filling its shape
as you draw it. Now let's move to the ER
from the left side and create a shadow on the
bottom half of the ear. And then you can
simply fill the rest of the bottom of the ear with this beautiful color after the insides of the
two ears are done, increasing the
size of the brush, you will shadow the
mouth of the giraffe. Let's get a little bit closer and make that line
a little bit wider, enlarging the mouth
of the giraffe. After this is done, you want to create some spots over the
face of the giraffe, increasing the size
of the brush to about 40 percent and decreasing the flow
to about 50 percent. Let's add a small one on
the left side of the cheek, another one below the
year from the left side. Now that shape, a bigger
one on the right side of the cheek and the smaller
one just above the last, the last spot will be placed
on the middle of the face, a bit more oval. At last, let's place to shadows
on the edge of the cheek, one wider and the other
one a little bit thinner. After this, you can create
the features of the giraffe. So you will go to the
color palette and grab the dark green
from the top left side. And now let's decrease the size of the brush to
about 20 percent. And then you will firstly create two round nostrils on
the nose of the giraffe, holding the pencil down as
the flow is diminished. Now let's increase the
flow to about 80 percent. And now let's shape the
eye from the right as a curve pointed down and on the left side near
the edge of the face, a little bit smaller. And now this step is done. Let's get into the next one.
5. Neck and Mane: For this next step, you will continue
the illustration with the neck of the giraffe. So at first, you will
create a new layer for the neck and you will
place it below the head. Then you pick the orange
from the bottom left corner, and then you will undo the
selection of the head. And now living from the
bottom middle of the canvas, you will climb towards the head. And with the same line, you will descend from the ER until you made the bottom
of the canvas again. After the shape is done, you will go to the
color palette and pick the second orange from
the bottom left side. Then you'll use
the selection tool and select the shape of the Mac. Now you will increase the
size of the brush to maximum, and then you will start to create a couple
of color patches. A bigger one on the right side, just below the cheek, a smaller one on
the left side of the neck with truckers and
then filling the shape, a smaller one between them. Let's add one more on the
top right of the neck. Now you will move to the bottom right side
and create a bigger one, a little bit more round and one more as a heart shape on the bottom
left side of the neck, filling the shape
without lifting the pen. And with that, the spots
of color are finished. After this, you go to the brushes and
select the KV brush. Then you will
decrease the flow of the brush and increase the size. With this beautiful
darker nuance of orange, you will create some shadows on the bottom right
side of the neck. Just a little bit will be enough to create that sense of volume. Now you will want to create
some highlights for that. You will go to the
color palette and selecting the orange from
the bottom left corner, you will want to create
a lighter version by increasing the brightness and
decreasing the saturation. And then you can apply the highlight on the
left side of the neck, still letting some of those
spots of color visible. Just a few passes
will be enough. Now let's go to the layers and select the layer of the head. Then you will unselect
the neck and make a selection of the head and
the nose of the giraffe. Now let's apply some of this highlight on the top and
the left side of the head. You will build this
highlight slowly bringing the light using circular
motions on the left side. Let's decrease the size
a little bit more and let's accentuate the
light a little bit. Getting a bit
nearer to the head, you will place a
little highlight at the base of the
year from the right. Now, you will undo
the selection and move once again to the
layer of the neck. You will select the brush and place a couple more highlights, accents on the left side
of the neck just to make that luminosity of the next similar to the one of the face. Now that the neck and the
head of the giraffe are done, you will want to create a new layer for the
main of the giraffe. This layer will be placed
on the back of the neck. So let's drag this layer
below the neck and the head. After this, you will go to the color palette and pig
the brown from the bottom. Then you go to the brushes
and select the brush. Now you will end do the
selection of the neck, increasing the flow to 100%. You will start the
main from between the two horns and you will draw a parallel line to
the right side of the neck until you made
the bottom of the canvas. Now, you will increase
the size of the brush to 100% and colored the
surface of the main. You don't have to pay
too much attention to the left side of the main
because that side is hidden. So you will just color the main until you meet the bottom of it. After the main is colored, you will want to make a
selection of the main, and then you will select a brush and choose the second orange
from the bottom left side. Now let's get a little
closer to the main and create some parallel lines
on the length of the main, keeping the lines parallel and
perpendicular to the main. You will place the canvas so
it can be easier to draw. And now you will continue to
add these lines going down, diverging the distance
from the lines. And with that domain, the neck and the head of
the giraffe are done. Let's move into the next step.
6. Red Leaves : In this step, you will make some beautiful red leaves in
the mouth of the giraffe. So you will firstly create a new layer between
the neck and the head. Then you will go to the
color palette and pick the most intense color
from the top left side. After these, using the brush, you will want to
firstly decrease the size of the brush
to about 40 percent, and then you will
shape the first leaf. Firstly shaping the stem
and add two short curves. Then you can fill the form of the leaf with the
color from the corner. Now let's create a second leaf, a little bit shorter, coming directly from the mouth, shaped by two curves. Now between the two leaves, you will create a long
period and at the end of it, you will add two ovals to
create that leaf shape. You will make the base of the leaf a little
bit more smoother. Now, let's move to the left
side of the mouth and add one more leaf going up 400
as before by two lines. Now below this you will add one more leaf shape
and fill this form. After the shapes are done, you can go and pick the light color from one
of the leaves from before, and then you will make a selection of the
newly created leaves. Now we're going on the brushes. You will select the
brush from the textures, then increasing the flow of the brush and
decreasing the size. You can apply some
of this light on the top of the leaf
from the right. Now let's move to
the next one and create a light on
the bottom of it. And the little bit of light on the bottom of the next one. Moving to the ones
from the left, you will continue
adding the light on the top side of the two leaves. Look how easy is to create
these volumes of the leaves. And with that, this
step is done as well. Let's move to the next one.
7. Leaf Veins: For this simple step, you'll want to make a selection of the
leaves from its mouth. And then you will go to
the color palette and pick the pink from the
bottom right corner. Then you will go
to the brushes and pick the oman brush and then getting a little
closer and setting the size to about 35 percent, you will draw a line
across the middle of the leaf and two parallel
lines on one of the sides. Let's move to the
next and to the same. Let's place the canvas so
it can be easier to draw. And now you will place the
middle line and a couple of lines on the left and the
right side of the main line. Now you will move
to the two leaves from the left and once more, that glaze, that middle line. And for the one from
the top as well, after the leaves from
the center are done, you will want to move to the layers of the
other red leaves. You'll make a selection of
them and then you will grab the brush and move closer to the ones
from the right side. Now you can place
the main vein and then the characteristic two
parallel lines on one side. And for the one from
the bottom as well, they look so much
more decorative now. Now you will move
to the last bundle of leaves from the left side. And as before, you will
place the middle line across the leaf and those couple of
parallel lines on the sides. These details from the
leaves will help them seem more closed than the other
objects from the background. As you can see, they are
much more prithee now. And with this, you can
move to the next step.
8. Green and Pink Bushes: For this next step, you will firstly want to create a new layer on the top
of the other ones. Now with the oman brush and the second green from the top left side of
the color palette, you will want to move to the
left side of the neck and create a bush placed between
the tree and the neck, overlaying them
just a little bit. So let's create this bush
with three curves on the top. And then you can fill the
shape with the same color. You will want to
make another one on the bottom right corner, living from the bottom and
closing on the right side. Composition. Now you'll want to create
some details on them. So you will firstly make a
selection of the two bushes, and then you will go to the colors and pick
the dark green, the textured brush, and
decrease the flow to about 75 percent and increase the size to
about 30 percent. Let's maybe try to work with
a lower flow so you can gradually build that shadow to create a more uniform Luke. Now you will apply
the shadow gradually, adding a couple of light passes over the entire
surface of the bush. Now you will move to the other
one and once more go over the entire surface of lightly a bit more color
on the bottom of it. You don't have to make it
too dark just enough to make the composition seem
a little more closed. After this is done, you can go to the
Layers and create another layer below the
one of the two bushes, then you will grab the medium
pink and the hormone brush. You will go above the first bush with
three beautiful curves. And then you will close the form on the right side of the Canvas. Now for the second, you will move on
the left side of the bush from the
front and you will go with four curves and then you will close the
form on the bottom. Now you can create a bit of
shadow on the tubing bushes. You will go to the
color palette and pick the pink and the QV
brush from textures. Then you can get a bit closer and make a selection
of the two bushes. Now you will place this color on the
lower side of the bush that is visible so you can accentuate the contrast
with the green. Now let's move to the
second one and give some of this beautiful bright
pink to the Bush as well. Now you will create
some stripes over them. So you will pick the brush and the light being from
the bottom right side. Now let's move to the
one from the right side. And as for the main, Let's create a couple of
stripes, different sizes. Now you can move to the one
from the left side and add those beautiful parallel lines directed to the
middle bottom of it. Let's add a few more
under left side of the bush at 45 degrees. And after this, you have
finished this thereof as well. Congratulations.
9. Dark Leaves and Vines: For the last step, you will want to
create some leaves. So let's pick the dark green and now with
the hormone brush. And now similar to
the red leaves, you will create the
first leaf with the curve leaving
from the corner and going up and then placing another curve from the
top to the middle of it. Now let's get a little closer and create the second leave with another long line emerging from the corner till it
meets the main. Let's add a curve on its bottom, keeping the TPP nice and pointy. As you can see, these leaves are the same with the red ones, but they are in the shadow, so they are not red anymore. Now let's move in front of
the other green bush from the left and create another simple leaf
in the middle of it, foreign by two curves and
the long stem going down. Now you will create
one more leaf leaving from the bottom side, going to the right. After failing this
shape as well, you will want to go further on the right side and add
one more little leaf. For the last leaf, you will move to the left side of the other leaves and then you can add one more leaf
inclined to the left side. You can adjust a little
bit of that deep of leaf. And now for a less starch, you want to add some loose vines hanging
from the top of the artwork. So you will firstly go to
the color palette and pick the lightest nuance of green and increase
the brightness of it, then increasing the size of the brush to about 65 percent. You will draw the first vine, leaving from the top
middle of the canvas and climbing up with a
curve to the left, middle of the top side. Now for the right side, you will make it a little
more longer vertically. Then you will add a curve
in the top right side of the canvas and another
one a little bit wider. After this, you will make a
selection of the four vines. Now that they're selected, you will go to the
color palette and pick the dark green from
the top left side, and picking the QV
brush from textures, you will add some of this dark
green on the top of them. Let's increase a
little bit the size. And now you can lightly go
over them with a couple of light passes just to create
some textures across them. And now you can go to the
top and place another beautiful layer of textures
accentuating that site. So they may be visible on
the light green background. And with that, the
illustration is finished. Thank you so much for
taking the course. If you enjoyed it, make sure you leave a
review and of course, share with the rest of the world your own beautiful illustration. Thank you once more and
see you in the next one.
