About This Class

Hello and welcome to this class about painting a loose lilac with watercolor!

I’ve been painting a lot of abstract flowers lately and I love this process more and more each day. Nature is always a beautiful source of inspiration and there are many different ways to use a flower as reference for a painting.

Today I’m going to show you how to paint an abstract loose lilac with watercolor. You will only need two different colors and one type of brushstroke to paint this flower and the goal is really to relax and enjoy the process. You will learn how to mix your colors, paint the petals and I will show you how I use water to my advantage to add some looseness to my painting.

Each video is in real time so you will be able to observe each step of the process and paint along.

So, grab your brush, your watercolor palette and let’s get started!

Hi there, my name is Sarah also known @mirglis on instagram. I’m a watercolor and gouache artist living in the French countryside.

I believe that nature, inspiration and imagination are deeply connected, and for me, creativity is a long road leading to a better observation and understanding of the world. I'm most myself and happier when I'm in a forest or in the middle of nowhere, and that’s why all my inspiration comes from nature. I love painting landscapes with watercolor, playing with water to create textures, and patiently adding one layer after another.

I've been spending a lot of us works for Wells likely, and I love this process more and more each day. No, it sure is always beautiful. Source off inspiration. And there are many different ways to use the floor as reference for repented. Today I'm going to show you how to spend enough track lose lilac With water polo, you will only need to different calls and one type of stroke. Two pences flora. And the goal is really to relax and enjoy the process. You belong out. Miss Chocolat spends petals and I wish you are. Use water to my advantage. Do about some looseness to my painting. Each video is every time, so we'll be able to observe every step of the process and pencil, So wherever brush your weather cooperates, let's get started 2. Supplies: And in this first video, I'm going to show you what supplies you will need for discuss you. We need, of course, some water cooler paper. The brown does not matter at all, but it needs to be a thick paper as 300 Grandpa screw emitter and the 100% cotton is better for this project because we're going to use a lot of water. You can use a path like this 10 you can use a sheet of paper in some day to make sure that your paper stays in place. Where weapons. You will need a water cooler, perhaps to make so close to jazz of water, one to clean your brush and one with clear water. Some paper it'll world of Schubert's. She's a big one, and to measure in ones is our room Brushes with offensive is this one is a size 16 and this one is a size eight and physicals We're going to use some ultramarine group and some purple use. It's these girls here and if we make them, we're going to obtain this lovely Perper. I'm going to show you now, so I'm going to grab any of the shit off paper and the brush, and I'm going to show you. So this one is the proper use. If I use it on my paper, it's a beautiful pink exists and this is my ultramarine blue duck blue. And if I combined this to close on my bed it here you can see that it creates a weapon. I can add more water to dilute its UN creates different shades. If I add more water nexus, you can sit that this is now a light. We can also try to add more pink or more brew and see what course it creates. Let's add obits. More radio spur fell. Um, it's O shea legs, this one. But if we add a bit more roof, we will pay ASUs Pepper. We are going to create O Z Painting with Omi's is to corals, and we're going to make them and Children then toe up 10 value shades 3. Brushstrokes: before we start venting our flora, I want to show you what brushstroke we're going to use for this project. We're going to use only one brush stroke and repeat it over and over to create the flavor. So I'm going to show you with my room rush and I would use my ultramarine blue so that you can see 12. So first I'm going to put the tip on the paper and then press a bit more. Two creates Mark. Let me show you again. So first I'm going to only use the tip and then push a bit more to create an act like this . You can do this also with the brush loaded only with water and creates a beautiful picture . We are going to pens his brush strokes over and over, and foods that's we are going to pens them in different directions. First you can practice and it's creating this brush strokes. So, using first the tip and then pushing a bit more to create this mark, let's create another one Miss Aidid's, and this time I'm going to use my newspaper entry. It's no Zuma. Claridges just miss I nine proof I'm going to do it. When? Here. Let's see. I went over there. When? Here. And you can see that just by commanding XYZ brushstrokes we were. We will create a flower. I want to add some lightness. So I'm going to use my second brush only with clean. What does? That's why I have a second job here and I would create just like I showed you here. Sump. It does some marks with his brush. And when my what's in our is going to touch the pitchers created a year, the pens is going to spread and it will add some rightness. Maybe he's so. This is just to give you an example, but we can create a whole floor using only one brush stroke. And that's what I'm going to show you in the next video. 4. Painting the flower (part1): So now let's stop painting a flower first. I'm going to mix some purple so I will add my pal. It's a bit more group like this and I'm going also to add a bit no US Pepin to create a beautiful violence. So I'm going to start by bending the top of the flora and then we add potatoes towards the bottom. Gradually take your time to create this floor. So only starts with my newspaper Well and I'm going to create zip it als that adds it up. So it's exactly as I showed you early. Yeah, In the previous video, I'm creating a few petals and I try to place them in different direction. And I'm needing some space between the petals on purpose. I will add a bit more room and I will keep a thing. Some vittles Sit up. Now I'm going to grab my other brush with something water and I will do exactly the sex scene. You need to do this before the first petals you painted starts to dry. Otherwise it won't work. I will add every tomorrow. That's a very tough still using something water a bit more here and I will add some capitals. Two worlds. Send me the officer flower. No, I will use my clothes or brush again, and I'm going to add off course. Some are potatoes. Try to bend them in many directions, and you can off course change the shade of the purple by adding more serious purple. Oh, my proof. I need to write that obits. My people, Toby more that is. And again, I'm just adding who and more bitters. I will also add, if you smaller ones, observation it up. Here. I I did some water all year, so that's why the pens is pretty in a bit. Now I will lose my clothes or brush and some clean water again, and I would create some marks again. I'm venting is this better does in values directions to add some contrast to my flower. Some interests a bit more on that side, and you can see I was apprentice spreading. This is my favorite bats. I'm switch English again, and this time I will use a bit more blue, and I keep adding potatoes to what's the bottom? I will try to stand to create bigger battles. So far, that's I will do the same of months. But I was stretched a bit more. My brush stroke like this. Maybe some more purple bitters now. Okay, evens, uh, on my floor. I will add this time son of a newspaper from that side here. Now I will use my clothes or brush again. You can see this is a buck and forced movement between our two brushes toe add first pigments, then water. And slowly you can sit. Is that now we have the shape for flower. We add more water on that side. Maybe a bit more over here too. Texas. I'm switching brush again. And I would add more Bittles Something as usual. Obits. Nisus, I want to add a bit more proper again. So I'm ending. Happy to my beds, Texas. And we can use some of saturated pence towards the bottom to add a bit more contrast to our flower. So, since seeing some bigger Bittles And if you smoother one Windsor No, I'm using my clothes or brush and something, uh, can, as we did produce t still listen movements Lexie's If you in the middle to Can we add a bit more at sir? Very bottom This is his December strokes habits. Maybe more purple on that side. He's okay. And before he dries, I'm going to clean my brush. I will use some saturated bends, straight forms Obama and I'm going toe. Add a few Trump's evens there, toe at some contrast to my painting. So I imagine some red, mostly on the left side. Thanks, sis. And I will add also some blue. So I'm killing my brush. I mean, at some blue at the bottom, I tried to keep the top of the floor lighter, so I won't add to situate in bed what's only as a bottom and on one site. Okay, she's pretty great, too mish, so we can stop here and let our pension dry and see I was the to Carlos blends. But we can also be a bit crazier and add some more water, and that's what I'm going to do here because I want to show you. So I'm going to remove my dirty water and with some really clean water, some really perfectly clean water, and then you get brush. I'm trying to wait it completely, and I will add some more water around my flower So first I'm weightings of paper far away from the flower. So on one side and graduated, I will also wait. Is the paper close to my flower? And you can see that pence is spreading in the water. I will do the sensing towards the bottom Texas. So you I need to add some water. But don't create some feathers. So don't Don't add too much water. I will do now. The same thing on the was a side of my floor. So first I'm waiting the paper far away. So my flower and no up I'm bedding some know what? Ah, cruiser to my petals. I will do this everywhere. And finally I will add more water again. But this time I'm going to use the brush I use previously. This is imagine brush and my thing water again. I will. With my paper you run their bits more. Maybe a bit more over here. I want to create something a bit fizzy source. That's why I'm adding water and you will sit. That would be beautiful. I'm adding some more water after putting two here and there. Maybe every morning is the centre here. So take your time to do this. Maybe it is more here, so make sure that is that there is not too much water. And to finish this flower, I will add if you mope it also, I can use my mother with her again and I will use some paints very saturated again. And I'm going toe ad. It is a sin brushstrokes that we use for the flower. Just a few more. You runs there Maybe a few moments outside. So this time I'm going to use my blue nexus if she Mars may be advisable Tum Nexus one. And now we have to let it dry to see the results. Because when we're using a lot of water, the very dependent is going to spread and to react. And we have to wait to see the results. This is really my favorite back with water. Hello. It's not knowing how it will look, but trusting the process and the whole problem ists 5. Painting the flower (part2): So now my painting is fully dry, so I'm going to remove the masking tape. - No , it is now open. Thing is fully finished and you can see hours. Events spread in the water and it had a lot of lightness to the former. A cinch. Maybe you need to try this a few times to get acquainted with the technique and Syria Tzu's Nick, but I hope you enjoyed painting this forever with me. 6. Project time: that's discuss. I hope you enjoyed paintings, stools, lilac and now female confident to trade your own abstract floor. You will see that the model practice, the more we feel that is with preachings slows brushstroke. Feel free to approach a project in the project section of disgust.
