1. Intro: Do you have a beautiful and writing and you will like to use it to write all your debts. Or maybe you have a not so great and writing, but still want to do something personnel. Would you like like me to keep incredible memories of your children handwriting, doing different school years, or even your own moods. Well, have you ever thought about creating your own custom font? Imagine having a unique font that represent you, your style, your personality. Maybe not. But what about learning how to do it in a simple and superfan way? This class is for you. I will use these apical iPhone and the iPad to create it. Once the font is created, you will be able to export it and use it while you like it. In this specific class that will show you also autumn Install it in the iPad and then use it in Procreate and then in Canva right away. And why we're doing so, I will start also a timer. Not this one, another one that you can see, but it's to track the effective time I'm using to do so. If we didn't meet yet. I'm Maddamom, a surface pattern designer and illustrator with a background in usability and a creative productivity gig with a terrible and writing. And if this made me so treat each time, I can't wait to see what you're going to make it. So what are we waiting for? See you in the next video? 2. iFontMaker: I purchase iPhone maker a few years ago. I'm not updated on the cost, but I believe it's less than $10. Today, I really wanted to see how much time it takes me to create a font with you. Here is why there is a stop watch. I will just started as soon as we will start writing. First, you can install the App or just watch the class and then see if it makes sense for you that here, you can go on their website. And get more information, I suppose, and also how to download it and install it in your hypod. In my case, I already have it, so I can just open it. As you can see, I have font I already did, but I just wanted to show you, yes. Maybe I will show you briefly this one. Basically, we are going to do our font, we'll export it and you will be ready straightaway to use it first. In procreate. Here, for example, I ask Chachi Pit to give me just a text about it, I pics it there, and I try with the phone that you just saw. Then I just put it with my son handwriting because today I asked my son just a few minutes to build something and he had so much fun. Then we will use Canva because I think using text in Procreate sometimes is not so intuitive. I think it's very nice to have your phone directly also in amva We will just say on the iPad today and let's start. Oh. 3. Making a Font: So we are ready to go, ready with our timer. Less, start to create our font. Let's go to New. And here we can select the base so that we like by pushing here like if you want to, for example, a serif, sans serif or something like this, you can change it here. I will go for Helvetica since I'm in Switzerland. So, and then here I can decide our tika or not is ostraca. I think in my case, this one might work well to go back. You can either do this one or double-tap with a two-finger. Okay, so let's start. We have the guide. Then you can just push the letter that you want to do and go with your own M writing. Of course you can do also variations. Say that you want it the E like this. Fine. If you wanted to follow the structure, if you're not satisfied, again, you can just do this. Go through. You can either continue by pushing the letter that you wanted to do, or you can also move with this arrow here. I will just to try to do it faster because I wanted to see also really think and make it in five-minutes, as is written in the upper west side. I mean, it is challenging and of course, you can take some more time on doing your son. And one thing, if I don't, you like a letter in the this one is not active anymore. What you can do is go in here and say clear, and then you can redo it. Oh my gosh was better before. Again, my handwriting is terrible. I know. But I think things that is super cool to have your own fonts. So if you ran the writing is also beautiful. As I imagined. Most of you have. This one will be unbelievable, useful and crazy. For example, the a, I usually don't write the heel like this is the lowercase letter, so I just go through with what I wanted to do. And again, this class is just to make it in a few minutes. So you get the point. Basically you are writing the alphabet. And by the way, in this case, you can zoom in, zoom out a mover. I just want, I wanted to go so professor, because I wanted to show also how to deal with the special characters. So you don't have to compile all the list of characters that are available. I warmly suggests you to go through, of course, the uppercase and lowercase. The numbers. Again, you can decide to write number as you like. I do the for in that way. So this is terrible. So again to cancer, you can just go here, clear it, and redo it. Again. You don't have to do it in five-minutes as I'm trying to do, aiming to do. Then here you are. All the punctuation and so on. And I suggest you to do as many as you'd like in one session because it would be more, more coherent and you will be happy to have a complete thinker. But since my time is running over, I just wanted to show you that, for example, if I have to, Let's say Do this character here. That is very important that by the way, in when you're writing in German. So what you can do is go here and say based from a, you will start from the base of the letter. And then you can just continue. The software is recognizing these ones. So if I go here, we based from the E. So it will make more coherent and so on. Actually, it's true I'm almost 5 min, but I did a talk. If I wouldn't talk, I think I would be able to do the base of my alphabet also with special character. So I think this one was successful. And what I wanted to show you now is how we can export it and started to work right away with what we already did. 4. Export and Install a Font: We did at the base of our Latin alphabet. If you go through, again, there are many extension also for different languages. For example, there is Greek here and so on. So you really have a lot of options that you want it to explore. But now let's see how much time we need to export the file. So we did made the database in five-minutes. Now let's reset the timer and see how much time we need to export it. So I will start it. To export it, you will just go here and we'll push, configure and build a your font. Here you can write the title of this one. I tend to use it with my initial. And then, or you can write exactly all unique name, your artist's name. And then I usually go with the ear, the Mansa. The day today is Thursday. Then I will go so with the version that is 01 is like the one that I created today. I would put my name and I will keep it at the moment private. But again, as you can see, you will be able also to share it for public, for example, for the public, put here your domain, if you will, like, when it's ready. You can do it in different ways. You can start now with private and then make it public. Decided a license if you want public domain attribution, noncommercial, and so on. But now let's go with the first phase that is building the font. So let's build it online. App is working. Here. I have the linker with the password to get it. But what I wanted to do now is to install it directly on my iPad. Because as I told you, the next phase it will be use it in Procreate. So to install it in the iPad, we will do Install iOS Fanta. I will allow to download this one. And he says that my profile is downloaded, so I will close it. I will open my settings in the iPad. If you go here after your Profile setting, you can go here in profile them loader. And you will see that there is this one that is exactly what we just build the and then you can install it. Then it's giving me a warning because the profile is not sin, but okay, in order to save, so I will install it, I will install it here. And this done, this one, this our font that is already installed in our iPad. In the next video, we're going to see how to use it. In Procreate. We just went amino 36 5. Use your Font in Procreate: In the previous video, we Install a little font on the iPad. Now, let's use it in Procreate them. So let's start even if you don't need actually to start at the time at a gas. So we opened Procreate any document is fine. You can just go here and say add the text and then you can brighter here, whatever you like. What is important is that when you push this one, you will be able to select a different fonts that are installed. Oh sorry, I didn't select. So you will be able to install different font to use different font Install. And as you can see, our font is already installed there. This one is the one that we did today. These one is the one, for example, that I did yesterday. Or I can just go for example, the one that my Sunday did this morning to. And what is interesting is that, for example, if I go to a longer text, you can import a text. For example, this one is something that I id the to show you how also you can do it with longer texts. So you can just go here and then edit text. And then you can just select it and you can change it again with your font. That the one that we just did is this one. This done isn't a super easy. Also, well, you might, for example, see that you want more spacing between the latter or something like this. So in this case, you can just go back to, to your Font here. Make Done. And then in the preview, you might want, for example, to just increase again here, the letter spacing for example. And then repeat the same concept. So you can just hear, configure and build a font. This case, we'll just rebuild the same Fanta. Then you will be able to use it again with the improved version. But anyway, now we did it. I will show you in the next video. We're going to use it in Canva. Because this one, I think it's useful because even though I really love a Procreate, as you can see, managing attacks in Procreate sometimes it's not very, not very usable. And so I think a Canva is a good alternative to create things with a lot of texts for artists in the iPad. So see you in the next 6. Use your Font in Canva: In the previous video, we already use our creative font in Procreate, but managing font in Procreate is not so easy. So I wanted to show you how I do it in Canva. So let's reset the timer and start. This one is your iPhone to documents. You come here. You come here and say configure and build a Font. This case the app we recognize that you already uploaded today. I mean, you can even update it again, check the lettering, the spacing, and so on. After you update it or you go to the address, you can download it, the font. In this case, we will not to download it for the US, for the iPad, but we will download the desktop font. In this way, you will be able to import it in any computer, in different program, but especially in this case, we will do it for Canva. So I would save it to my file. So then, okay, let's stop this one. Maybe let's restart because this one is the real counterpart. So start to cover. We open canvas or less they did. This one is this slide is I'm preparing. But I, actually, this one was disliked. I was preparing, but I want my own fonts here, for example, are you ready? Did it? What I will do is, I will select the font. Here. I wanted to add to the one that we did today. To do so. When I select this part, I will see that here there is upload a font. I would push it here. And in my file I will select the one of today. I would open it. I always confirm that they wanted to upload it any way. And basically it's done in 40 s is really just done. So you have just to find it here now. That is this one in the uploaded Font section. And this one is my new font of today. Yesterday did with more time. So I suppose I may keep this one, I think is cooler for my presentation. But as you can see, it's super easy to upload a Fanta on Canva and using it. So we did everything just on our iPad. So I hope this lesson was useful and see you in the next video. 7. Bonus: Bold and Light versions of your Font: Another tip I wanted to tell you is that once your font is created, Let's say I created these cheeky Fanta. What you can do is that directly make a version that is bolder and lighter. To do so, what you have to do is go into regional. You did and keep it until you get duplicate. You will duplicate that and bigger for you can not change it right here, the name. So remember to go into copy. Once you are in the copy, you can go here. The, for example, increase, let's say until 140, or you can choose whatever you like. Let's make 160. Now I want it to be super exaggerated, but to show you the difference, then I would apply to all the glyphs. You will ask me a confirmation. Yes, we already did the duplicate. This one is a new version that you can see is definitely bolder than the original. So now here I have my boulder copies, super Bold copy. Now to rename it, but also to import it in the procedure is the same. So you will just here and configure and build your font. Here you can give the name. So I would suggest that like to keep the original name and add the boulder. And then once it's done, you can just build it online is here. So now it's also ready as usual to download for your iPad or to download the four-year desktop. I will go for download it for the desktop and I will save it directly in my file. And actually put it like Bold too, because I already have another one. They wanted to remember that this one is even bolder than the version that I did. I'm done. And then when you will go here, you ready basically rename also define. Now, let's do it again. But to make a lighter version will take the original. We will enter. And we'll go here. And let's say go down maybe until 60 per cent. Let's see how it goes. Or even 50 Lego super light I want to see. Then I will apply to all of them. This one is the new version. In the case of a super light, you might want to check how it will the preview for the world does. So let's say we will write something and check that you like the letter spacing and the worst pacing. So maybe I will just make the letter spacing a little bit tighter like this. And the word spacing, I can just check but no, I think they were spacing is fine like this. Done. I'm happy. Remember, you can also check with some example available here. For example, like this. With the punctuation. Yes, I think I like it. So I'm ready. I will configure and build a font. And I call it light to that for me means that is lighter than the light. And then build online. And I will download it directly. Here. Again, I'm going to import it in Canva. I'm not going to import it in Procreate until I'm not super sure that I like it because as I told you, I don't like to write so much in Procreate. Just to do an author. I will duplicate this page to just show you the difference with this new version I just did. Here. I will go here, applauded the font. Let me try with Bold two. Okay? And I can go here in uploaded fonts. And now you can see that I have even bolder font. I like it actually. Ok. Now I'm here. Go here and say Upload a Font. I get my light to open. Yes, upload any way. Now in applauded Fanta, I should find this one that is the one I just did that is even more lighter than this. So you see, now we created from the same this variation. And I think there might be very useful and they will still keep your design. Political assistant. See you in the next video. 8. Project: We have reached the end of this class. I hope it has been helpful and above all, I hope it has encourage you to create your first font and many, many, many more fonts in the future. But be careful, it's addictive. If you want to stay updated on my creative productivity experiment and workflows, click the Follow button here on Skillshare. Please don't forget to share your work. You will make me so happy. As a project. I would like you to post at least one screenshot or a photo of your work in progress in the project section. Whatever. It's what you're doing in IFontMaker, or how you use your font in Procreate or Canva, or even sketches on paper and pencil. If you don't have the mentioned apps yet. And you want just to try first though, all this option would be great. And then warmly encourage you to check the author students projects and support them with comments or ART. One reminder, if you want, just to try to Install a Font in your iPad without making one first, just as experiment to use it. I live in one of mine available for free for you in the resources section. And just as a last, last, last reminder for now, creating a custom font that can not only be useful, but can and should also be found and memorable. So just enjoy the process. Even if you like me, don't have beautiful and writing. In this case, this is just the room to improve. And if you do have a beautiful handwriting, what are you waiting for? It should be ashamed not to utilize that, this talent, this class that was inspired actually by the magnificent work of artists friend who I hope that we released soon. Because yes, I almost forgot to mention it. Creating fonts and making them available as a digital download is another possibility that you can and you should explore from now. So what are you waiting for? I can wait to see your creation and your idea by
