About This Class

In this class, we will paint a basic high heel shoe illustration in Procreate, focusing on simple shapes, clean brushwork, and an easy to follow painting process that helps you understand how shoes are built and painted without getting lost in unnecessary details.

This lesson is designed for beginners and early intermediate illustrators who want to improve their digital painting skills while learning how to approach footwear in a confident and structured way; instead of complex textures or hyper-realistic rendering, we will focus on form, light, and color balance.

Throughout the class, you will learn how to:

  • Block in a clear high heel silhouette

  • Paint basic light and shadow to define form

  • Keep edges clean and readable

  • Use a limited color palette for better control

  • Simplify shoe details without losing elegance

You don’t need advanced drawing or fashion illustration experience; this class is all about building a strong foundation that you can later apply to other shoes, outfits, or character designs.

By the end of the lesson, you will have a polished high heel painting and a clearer understanding of how to approach footwear painting in Procreate with confidence.

1. Introduction: Hi, I'm Isa Wurdam. Professional artist and illustrator, Wood it collaborated with adoptable IlshPrime Videos Lord of the Rings. Style, the value of time, Wacom, Logitech, and many more. In this class, you will learn how to paint a high heel shoe from start to finish using procreate. We will start from strong sketch and clean shapes, and we will practice high heel sketches. Then with base colors to define the form, you will explore how light, shadow and reflections work on leather and glossy surfaces. I will show you how to add deep texture and elegant highlights without losing painterly style. By the end of this class, you will understand the anatomy of the high heels. You will be able to paint high heels that feel stylish, realistic, and full of character. This class is perfect for illustrators who want to improve the facial details and elevate their digital painting skills in prograde. Let's join my class. 2. Draw Simple Shapes: Welcome. At this part, I will teach you how to think geometrically. You need to think geometrically when you paint in high heels. For example, if you paint a box here, like this and you connect the box together like this and maybe you can put one sapphire here and triangle at here. And if you connect the lines together, and one cylinder here like this. And like this, And if you imagine it, like it comes down here and up here, and you can always make it a bit curvy. You can create high hails so easily with this method. You need to see things much more geometrically. For example, don't use curvy lines at first and just try to define with the basic shapes like geometrical shapes, basic and geometrical. Try to define how it looks, and always after this point, you can add details. 3. Drawing High Heel Sketches: Welcome. In this part, we will paint high heel sketch. At first, open nib layer and learn this curve. It is the most essential part of painting high heels. If you imagine a geometrical shape like this, high heel makes this curve. For example, it is like this, and this is the endpoint like this, and you need to make connect the a shape like this. And it is a geometrical shape. You can think like water drop. And if you paint water drop like this, and it is if you imagine human feet like this, this simulates this shape of the feet. And it's starting with water drop, and you make it like this. And it is where your starting point of the high heel lens, and you can create the shape after it like this. I will show you in another examples like I will make onketch. For example, I'm making the start point like this. And maybe there is a belt. Just like this. And it is connected to this part. Just like this. And it connects like this. And this part can be just like this. Yeah. And let's paint another sketch. If you want to paint this high hail from background like back, it will be something like this. And this part simulates the backwards. And let's continue to create much more different sketches. At this part, it starts just like this. And all details defines how you build the high heel. For example, let's imagine it is like a way pet goes down and end up like this. If you paint pets like this, imagine it is like a rod and it connects the shape, and we have the water drop here. Always connect the water drop here, and you need to be careful to make it like ergonomically, and it is the most important paint for the illustrations. Let's continue with another example. Let's paint high hail boots right now. At first, you don't need to put so much detail over it. Just define the general shape and don't forget to put this water drop at every painting. And it is water drop technique made by me. And maybe we have some details here like this. Yeah, just like this. And let's start to create another example. Yeah. Yeah. Hope you enjoy these sketches and thank you for joining me in this tutorial. And at next part, we will paint high hails with realistic way. 4. Painting Base Colors: Hello. At this part, we will color this sketch, and you can also use the sketch and color I shared with you. At first, paint the base of the high heel. Paint slowly. And you can move the vas for creating much more easy angles to find for color it Yeah. And for this part, you can use black color because I make this part black. Yeah, just like this. And for painting we need to use darker tones at this part. 5. Painting Shadows: Let's move to Canvas. Yeah, just like this. And some parts of the illustration, it will be white, but not directly white. It is forgiving the shiny look of the shoe like this. And like this. For inside of this leader, you can make these parts a bit lighter. Give it a much more leaderly look. You can tap on the screen like this, that it looks much more better right now. Yeah, it looks great. And continue to adding colors. I will paint it like this. Yeah, and I will continue to add details. 6. Painting Final Details: This part, I will open another new layer, and I will continue to add detail over the illustration. At these parts, I will make it much more shinier. And it will be like this, like this. Especially you can increase the color of these corners. For example, it will come like this, and I will delete these corners you can even increase the color of the corners. For example, I will select smooth lime brush and we paint over it just like this. And from here, And here. Also, I will add much more lights here. Just like this. Yeah. It looks great. And at some parts, I will use these reflections and even black not directly black, but dark reds for make the illustration much more value. I think value is really important at illustrations. Okay. And I will make it much more wider here and here and here and some reds. But don't overuse it. Just use it at the searching points for giving brains because if you overuse it, your illustration will look boring. And I will add some whites here just like this. And at the end of it, I will add Blackline here like this and here. Hope you enjoy this process and see you in the next videos.
