1. Introduction: Hi, everyone, and welcome. I'm Masha Vurdem, a professional digital illustrator. And in this class, we are going to explore one of the most exciting skills in digital painting, creating convincing, glowing objects in procreatee. Whether you are painting a maggel crystal, a candle, metal, golden gum, or glowing sword, reliable light can instantly make your artwork feel more dramatic and immersive. In this class, I will show you simple practical workflow for painting realistic light, smooth color transactions, reflections, and convicing glowing effects using Procreate. This class is designed for beginner artists, and we already know the Procreate basics and want to make their illustrations look more vibrant and atmospheric. By the end of this class, you will have the knowledge and techniques to paint your own luminous objects with confidence. So grab your iPad, open Procreate, and let's get started together. 2. Painting Fire: Welcome. In this part, we will paint fire, and it is glowing thing, so we need to use gray scale at background. And after putting the background, all you need to do is open another new layer and from the colors, select some really orange color, then select free hand tool and paint spontaneous some linesle reminds the fire, just like this. And color drop in it, and you will get this shape. And as you can see, it is really great and realistic. And after it, swipe your finger to the left and duplicate it. Then make it a bit yellowish. And from selection tool, make it like this, very, very small, just like this. And you can make it really small, and it will be our core fire. And duplicate one more time and this time, make it really we brand yellow in really small size. After it, swipe your two fingers together like pinch your fingers with free hand tool, let these lines and with the same color we used for fire, create the lidel particles of fire just like this. And you can create more larger versions of these particles and maybe smaller types of it and it will look great if you add much more small size and bigger size together to make it look much more interesting. For example, I want to add really big size of fire here. And like this. And after all details, all you need to do is open another new layer and select colored Dutch, then go to the brushes and select smooth edge brush and make it brush size really bigger and apply over your fire. But don't use it like small, use it like very big, and you can make it even bigger with this move tool. And the core part of it will be really, really lighter, just like this. You can use really white color, but don't overuse it, because if you use really brand colors, it will ruin your original colors. And after it pinch your fingers to get and we have really great looking of fire. And if you want to paint much more realistic look, you can use smuchtol and make the corners much more blurry like this. And for that, you need to use, again, smooth shading brush for make it soften. But don't soften every edge, some of them, maybe some parts of them because some edges need to be much more sharp to keep balance. For example, yeah, we have this fire like this, and you can create different kind of fires with this method. For example, you can also use this smooth sheding brush and paint the fires silhouette like this. For example, like fireball, I'm painting right now, like blaze and the corners can be much more darker, just like this. First, do not rush about these details. You will put the details of this fire later. But for now, create the edge like this, and you can always select the lighter tone of it and make the corners just like this. And this part will be really vibrant. And again, the particles will be here. This is another look of the fire. Like the blaze comes through some pads, and you can dilate the some parts with the eraser. Again, with using a smooth shading brush will also help you to create amazing looking fireball or different kind of fire effects. And don't forget that you can also use screne layer mode for make your fire much more vibrant and glowing. And thank you for joining me in this part. And next parts 3. Painting Diamond: Welcome. In this part, we will paint glowing gem. And at first, we will use, again, dark gray background because we will see our shiny object, much more beautiful if we use it. And after it, select the rectangle tool and painted. Make sure you are using another layer, then select distort. I mean, maybe, yeah, this kind of. But let's select arp and make this part like this, but much more edgy like this. And again, collect these two side like this and make these corners like this as possible. And we have this shape and go to the layers and make Alpha look, then select much more lighter brush and create the edge of it. For example, it is our top edge, and these parts will be much more saturated but dark. And these parts will be, again, lighter, especially at these corners. And after it, select much more lighter brush, hold with your pencil, again, hold with your pencil, and again, hold with your pencil and paint in it gently, just like this. And these parts will be like this. Connect this part also. Yeah, it is looking really great right now. By the way, you can divide another part from here, if you wish, depending on your choice. And these parts again, will be divided into shapes, maybe into three shapes. One is the middle, and these parts will be here just like this. And again, with the warping tool, you can put the edge like this, and it will look much more better. And after it, you need to open the adjustment curves and give it a bit much more darkness into it and open another new layer. And this will be green and with some muted color, use it gently just like this. And it will give your illustration really great shiny look and open another layer with the color dutch again, use it gently, but at the one specific spot. And it will add really great brains and color burn light into your illustration. And in this part, you can use some shiny dots here, just like this. And we have this great look. Thank you for joining me in this part, and we will paint different kind of objects in the next part. 4. Painting Ring: Welcome. In this part, we will paint golden ring and we'll paint it glowing. At first, use dark background and select one color for our rings base colors and paint one ellipse like this. The select darker brush, and we will paint the inside of the ring like we see here at the front part, and the other part is inner part of the ring, for example, like this, and we will paint the corners just like this for make it much more Rondi like this and select much more darker color right now, and we'll start to paint from here and we'll add some extra volume over our ring, just like this, just like this and like this. Yeah. And I will use much more darker color, just like this at some parts of it. And we will have much more glowing part here, maybe a bit much yellowish part here. And, this part will be much more yellowish and this part. And in it, this part of the Ring will have some color swatches like this because it is a ring, but some parts of it have different kind of lighting, and we need to not be able to see some parts of it like this. Maybe these parts also just like this. And it is looking much more filistic right now. And at some parts of the ring will have highlights just like this. You can use much more extra lights over it, much more linear lights. Like this for make it much more shiny and much more dark colors. But don't use so much dark. Some parts can be reflective, and we can see different kind of lights like this. And after it, you can create the glow our main goal with the overlay layer. Use the overlay and select really meat, I mean, really lighter tone of it and use it the most shiny parts and open another new layer than colored Dutch. And we will use colored Dutch on the most shiny area again. And this will bring us a really great lighting effect that brings our rings a shiny look. For example, if we have the shadow of it here, like glowing shadow, we'll have some thing like this. And hope you enjoy these parts. And in the next parts, we will keep painting glowing objects. Thank you. 5. Painting Laser Beam: Welcome again. In this part, we will paint red laser beam like the cyclopes from the mans beams or some laser gum beam you can use in your games or different kind of things. At first, we will use rectangle tool, and it will be white in separate layer, then select Distort. And I will make the laser beam like this. It comes from the left corner, and I will open another new layer under it. And I will use really vibrant color like this for all corners but not directly red. Then slowly add to much more lighter colors to the middle. You can even make the corner really pure red. But don't use white because it will make the effect much more weaker. But you can use some different kind of dots or laser beam things like this for make it realistic, just like this. And for example, if you make manually, like with the laser but not full laser, like the laser beam comes like this, you can use white again like this, and you can use red colors in it and some red dots at this corner just like this and go to the motion blur and give it a blur like this. But make sure you're using the same pad as the laser beam and don't overuse the motion blur. For example, maybe like this. And after it, you can modify the laser with extra adding extra color in it or different kind of colors. Hope you enjoy this part and see you in the next parts. 6. Painting Magic Light: Welcome. In this part, we will paint megag light, and at first, you need to use, again, a bit dark background and open another new layer, then select one brush like maybe purple for create the megag and create spontaneous lines just like this and some of them will be really visible. Some of them is less visible and a much more definite corners, if you describe how it looks just like this and at very, very light brush he over it because it is in air, but it flows, also, it don't have the specific sharp line. So you need to use your brush up and down and create some really messy look in it. And after it, you can open another new layer. And with the Color Dutch option, you can use much more lighter brush, maybe a bit much more lighter brush for created the color Dutch effect or if it's not look good in your illustration, you can use add and will open another new layer and I will make it screen, and I will use lighter brush and we'll apply over here because we selected a secrene because our color was already sharp and vivid. So we created with light with the secrene and I will add idle dots because MGI can create some fantastic look over the object. So you can use this kind of light effects like mig gi look with much more lighter brush. Yeah. Hope you enjoy this part, and in the next part, we will keep creating glowing objects. Thank you. 7. Painting Lamp: Welcome. In this part, we will paint lamp. At first, create a new layer and use rectangle and paint something like this and paint it really dark gray. And after it, go to the corners of it and dilate the corners just like this and apply the same thing for the other parts of it and make it symmetrical as possible, just like this. And after it select much more darker color over here and apply over here, just like this and like this. It is the holder part of the lamp. So we have this shape just like this. And you can use a warping tool for crate. This is just like triangle, just maybe depending on your choice, but I made it a bit much more edge like this, and I will put lights over here and there will be some wires here that creates the light. And after it, all you need to do is creating the glass and glass is transparent. What it means is we see only by the light. So for transparency, you can use very soft airbrush to create this glass look, and I will make it like this. And these parts of it will be really, really, really transparent. And maybe we can even barely see the corners of it just like this. So maybe reflected lights over it. And after this, all you need to do is creating the light. So I will make the lamp much more smaller and maybe I will rotate it to be like this. And after it, go to the new layer and select the green and select the light of the lamp and apply over the corners and middle, especially in the middle, use it much more powerful and softly at the corners. And with this method, you will create really realistic glowing lamp, and after it, you can zoom in and create some really corner details like this. For example, the whites around the corner and at the parts and hope you enjoy this part and can't wait for show you much more in the next classes. Thank you. 8. Painting Sword: Welcome. And in this part, we will paint sword. So at first, select rectangle tool and create one shape like this. And you can put some gray scale or white color over it. And we need to use this warping tool and need to warp these corners together for create the swords head just like this. I will look like for example, let's use a distort because the other way it will look much more I think it is really better option for creating the sword. And after it, you need to cut a sword from here because we need to put the holder here. You can use, again, the rectangle tool here and use maybe a wooden or really dark color. And again, put another rectangle here for the holder of the sword. And this is the basic shape. So you can add many details as you wish. For example, you can use Ellipse tool here, and this tool for create extra details for your sword. And you can modify your swords with many details. But in this, it will be basic like this. Maybe we can alpha and select darker colors here just like this and put the really light color in your sword, just like this. It will bring really metallic look into your illustration. After it, open another new layer and this time, use color Dutch again and apply over your illustration gently and it will bring really great Globe Look for your sword. And thank you for joining me in this class and see you in the next classes. 9. Painting Candle: Welcome. In this part, we will paint candle. At first, for candle, I will select really muted color, and I will create the stick of the candle, just like this, maybe some shadows will be around here, like the general types of the candle. You can use any a color for creating this tick of the candle. And we will paint this rope here, and the fire will be here. So I will select orange color and we'll create the light over here, just like this. And I will use lighter brush here, just like this and more visible light here. And some parts will be reflected from the light source. For example, these parts will be much more lighter. And you can even use, like, melted look of the candle because with the heat, it melts and we need to see the melt corners of the candle. And after it, open another Nivlayer at the top and select color dtch. And with the color dtch we will use here, and we will use at the corners. And yeah, it created really great light for our candle. And you can use this light in it, for example, at this part for make it much more subsurface like seeing the background of this object. And we see light in it, and hope you enjoy this quick class. And in the next lessons, we will continue to create much more shiny things. Thank you. 10. Painting Glass: Welcome again. At this part, we will paint glowing glass and at first, start with the base color of the glass. Glass is transparent, so you need to paint it transparent as possible, just like this. And the corners can be much more defined. And for example, these parts will be really shiny, just like this. And this part, just like this. And these corners will be much more detailed like this and this part will be like this. Yeah. I will keep adding detail to the glass just like this. And it is look really realistic right now, and all you need to do is open another new layer and select screen and apply over your glass a bit. And you can see it will bring really great amount of glove just like this. And after it, you can go to this layer and duplicate and flip and rotate just like this and make it a bit much more like this. And now I added really great reflection and glow over the glass. And in the next lessons, we will keep practicing. Thanks a lot for joining me and thank you. 11. Painting Blue Gem: Welcome. This part, we will paint blue gamestone. At first, paint the background with gray and select ellipse and create one ellipse here and use middle blue and use much more lighter brush for corners of the gamestone. And at middle, you can use really darker colors over it and corners, I will use really vibrant colors just like this and like this. And sometimes you can put extra shiny details at the corners like this. And after you create the general look of the gum, you can open another new layer over it and select color Dutch for shine and apply over it just like this. And it will bring really natural glow effect for your gemstone. And for example, you can zoom in and select much more vibrant color and then you can add tiny details just like this for increased detail and a realistic look of the gum, like the air particles around the old area just like this. And these planes will be shiny, just like this. And I will add really shiny de tails over the gum, just like this and like this and like this. And I will add really shiny look for these corners and will make the gamestone look mega like this. I hope you enjoy this part and see you in the next class. 12. Painting Glowing Eye: Welcome. In this part, we will paint glowing eyes. At first, you need to paint the background of the eye and the general shape of the eye, I will create slowly like this. And making glowing ice is a bit tricky, but it is easy. I will teach you. For the eye, you can't use directly white because our eye is not directly white, just white pigment, like gray and it have shadows at the corners like this. I will help us to find the glove easy easier, much more easier because we can't find the glove if we don't use dark shadows or middle tones. Because we can't put light in a light at the empty area. Let's put the general shape of the eye just like this. And let's make it orange and imagine the shape like this. And maybe it is much more darker inside just like this. Always try to find the shadows at first before you adding the glow. I will make it glowing yellow eye like vampire. So at first, you need to decide the light source. For example, you can put the light here or here or just here. In this, I will make the light drop like this and there will be light highlight. And this part, the most light part will be yellow. And you can create curves with much more shadows because as I told, we need shadows for the glove and open an tern layer and select color Dutch and select a bit much middle orange tone and apply over your light just like this. But don't overuse it. Otherwise, it will look like this. Just put light source like this, like low and you need to also make some reflections here or maybe here, like it drops. It creates light. So it is like lantern. So we need reflections of the light for give this luminous fell. So it will look like this. And you can create broken light just like this. And little dots here. For shoal there is light comes out here, and we can have air particles at the light. So it is the easiest way for create glowing ice for your characters or different kind of things for your monsters or creatures. You can use this technique. And another method is making it softer with the overlay. You can select overlay and make some connection points much more like burned, so it will look much more deep inside. So you can do experimental things with it, and hope you enjoy this class, and thank you for joining me. 13. Painting Green Gem: Welcome. In this part, we will paint glowing gemstone, and I will use yellowish, maybe let's use green. And for the base color, I will create like teardrop shape for our gemstone. And background will be, oh, sorry, I will use background, much more darker colors. And with the nve layers, I will use gamestone like this muted green for the background of the gemstone. And it will be, like, much more roundy. And after creating the shape of the gam if you don't like the sound features, you can always select warp and play with the general shape like this. And I created the shape like this, and I will use really dark colors, especially at this part of the game. And maybe these corners will be much more fluent, just like this. And I will make it much more darker over here, and it will gemstone, so it will have a really good amount of surface like planes because there is reflections and broken lights in it, and you can feel it is also glass like surface. Like shiny and the et cetera. So we need to put these tiny details in it. Let's keep adding shadows, and these parts will be like this, maybe zoom here and put some litle details over here and maybe this part will be like this and like this. And yeah, it is looking great already with these planes. You can do it with a random way like random lines and planes depending on your light source. And after you create these details, all you need to do is open another new layer and select screen and paint over it just like this. And it will bring really great amount of the glove effect for your illustration, and hope you enjoy this part. And in the next part, we will keep painting glowing objects. 14. Painting Lava: Welcome. In this part, we will paint lava. At first, start a new layer and using ellipse, create the really dark background and after it, select lier brush and apply over it, create the texture for the rock, just like this. Yeah, and even much more lighter color here for create the realistic look of the stone. Just like this. It is for the background texture. And after it, all you need to do is create a background for the lava. So you need to take the eraser and make pads for the lava. Just like this. And this part and this part. And after it, open another new layer under it and select orange just like this, and it will be our base color for the lava. And you can use extra lighter colors such as a bit orange like yellow. But only apply it over some random spontaneous places. And it is ready. What you're going to do is collect these two layers with pinching your fingers and go to Curse and give it a much more contrast. And with new layer, select color Dutch and select gray color as a color dutch and apply over these lines just like this. And after it, select much more warm color and apply over it and it will give really great amount of glowing effect because I will show you in another example, let's make it small and create some lava here. It is so hot, so we need to use red colors around it. Just like this and use orange here. At the middle and select yellow in the most core spot of it just like this. And we need to also use really dark color at the shadows because it is fluid, but it still three dimensional object. Let's put the shadows like this here. And after it, you need to select screen or color dutch and apply over it gently. And this will bring really good amount of light effect, like it is glowing, and you can use as you want, much more bigger size. But basically, it is hope to create lava and hope you enjoy this class, and in the next class, we will do another glowing things. Thank you.
