1. Welcome to the class: Hello everyone. I hope you're doing great today. I'm very happy to have you in this class where you will learn how to work your leather to create a simple yet elegant ban holder. In this class, I will show you how to cut the leather, line it, edge burnish it, and prepare its parts for its assembly. Pen holders are very simple projects to make, since they are usually only three pieces. The front and back parts, which are the largest ones, and a small bell that holds the cap of the holder in place when closed. As this is an intermediate level project, it is recommended to have previous knowledge on how to create templates and how to sell stitch. However, if you haven't worked with before, don't worry. The steps are very simple to follow. And if you watch the class, you will definitely have a much clearer idea of the steps that are usually taken when leather crafting. You can also check my other classes on how to make your own template for making a bifan wallet and how to construct such a wallet where cells touching and template development are covered. Release of materials are used for this project are available in the project section and you can check them anytime you want. With that being said, let's begin to create our pen holder.
2. Cutting the leather: For this project, I'll be using shall codon letter. As you can see, the piece of leather I'm using is relatively small. And I've already wanted to see low Ed for the Pen Holder along with other parts that will be used to create a wallet. However, because the pieces we need for this project are mostly long, it is convenient to draw a silhouette or the edge of our leather. In the case of coal or any other special letters tried to be very touristy about it, since these types of letters are sometimes difficult to obtain. Now try to cut the parsers carefully as possible. Here you can see I'm starting to cause straight line directly on while the edges of the lower pieces I'll use for the holder. If it's necessary to class you accept the knife several times, does much better than trying to force it to use your coding ruler and accepting life. This process, I suggest you don't use your scissors for this step since the cuts of the knife are much cleaner than those of the scissors. When using a large piece of leather, always try to work with smaller pieces. In this way you have more control of where to cut and you don't damage your letter when managing it, moving it on your warp patch. You can use your sketch all to mark a fixed point over the line where you will call the leather and bring your ruler globe. So just angle and blaze it more precisely where the NIH should pass With rounded parts. So I tickled small sort of lines where you accept them life. Again, this is much better than using any type of research, especially if you're another response either over the thickness. Once you make sure you have your piece well cut. Proceed to cut a piece of lining. You're going to use some sense is usually much thinner. Using your C source is okay for the lining always caught a larger piece. So you can then call the x's with apparel Caesar's. I'll see you in the next lesson.
3. Glueing the leather: The main level parts is very simple to do, but it's important to have several things in mind while doing this. For this project, I'll be using some French king leather in white-collar, which I covered in the previous lesson. We might pair of scissors, draw the outline of the exterior parts or the lining, then apply your favorite blue from both sides were the letters will join. If you're using a different kind of glue that only requires one side's V3 that follow the instructions of the manufacturer. They can't fully plays both sides as you see in the video and then see for at least 10 to 15 minutes, most other groups are very safe to use and a warm damaged the letter you're using. I've seen leather products totally covered in Dr. loop, that they're useless but only require a bit of friction or gleaning to get that out of the surface without leaving a single trace. When both sides are dry with barrel scissors carefully cut the excess of lining from the main part. So I did this as gentle as possible to have a clean cuts all around the piece. Okay. Okay.
4. Making the stitching holes: To make the stitching calls, we will use several tools that are quite common with leather working. So just bringing ions and molecules once or pieces or we're good, we will use are willing divider to draw an inner offset of two millimeters from the edge or peace. Since these pieces lines, we also need to stitch the top section of it. Opened your wind divider, Jimmy meters and carefully goal throughout the entire perimeter of the letter. I suggest you begin in one of the top edges, as I did in the video. But you can really start at any point in which just make sure that the line is clear and off devalue yourself on bunching this the chin bolts. We will use this setup to break in Ireland for this job. There are many brands of foreigners out there. Some are stronger than others. Some are more resistance to wear and environmental changes. As you can see, the ones I'm using have been worn considerably, but are still good to be used for this project. To mark decision holes when you do punch to the leather with our ions and molecules, you don't need to use a little force is the irons are usually sharp enough to market either. Well. However, when we do this, there's a great chance that the ladder will the punch all the way through and damage the surface of your cutting mat. So avoid is you see Polly blog the cushions, the hits of the malate. So in this way, your math will be protected. As you saw in the video that I have, has been considerably. If this happens to you, always try to find like comfortable surface from the blog on where to work. However, if it still bothers you, you can get a cutting mat specifically for using it as a block. Keeping mind though, that these mounds were not designed for that purpose and that you will eventually wear it and destroyed. However, it does make a difference, but working with them, the punching is moved, it makes less sound. In the beginning is completely flat. Also, there are many forms of materials, so you're iron's won't get damaged. That the way we are going to work with one as a block, I suggest you buy a small one so you can easily have lived and it won't be expensive to work with. And while this two can work as a replacement for employee block, keep in mind that it will get a lot of damage and we'll eventually need to be replaced in a couple of months of the in the US. Okay. Once the stitching calls up in marked, you can use a dime on OLTP or 48 them. Use a poly block while doing this. As you can see, I'm using an old pulling blog because even though my wide block is bent, I still want to preserve it as much as I can since he's a blog for using diamond chisels. Use a diamond all to punch the leather and make sure the old goes through all the stitching March, as you can see in the video. Now proceed to polish the top part of the formula piece. These by first most arising the surface with some water. Here's your finger to care for the moist the edge and then use a wooden edge burnisher to make free shown on this surface and polish it naturally. Once this is done, you can add some burnishing gum on the edge and with a small piece of canvas robe the surface. And so you begin to lose getting smoother. You can theoretically check how this process is going and issue, take more than 15 to 20 seconds to complete. What comes next is to do exactly the same with the upper gobbled, the holder from the lush little piece. And you can reach the upper part of this buoyant and blaze any logo or hot stem you wish before moving forward. When you're ready plays both the front and back side facing the inner sites together. And Margarita Hall will go while you put a fluorine on the phone with your dying and all. You can then use your wing divided once again to mark an offset of three millimeters from the edge of that gap going from the module just did a one side to the other. When you begin your ions, you will have to start one space ahead of them are previously, since this is Mark will eventually come naturally when you're worried the pieces that are glued. And then next lesson, we'll see how to assemble and finish our bent holder.
5. Assembling and finishing the pen holder: Let's see how to give our pen holder the final assembly. As you can tell already that cap has been staged, an edge finished as we previously did with the upper part of the piece. The process is exactly the same. What we need to do now is to move both the back and the front sides together by applying a small amount of glue on the edge of both leather pieces. We then make sure they are well aligned and proceed to perforate the back side through the stitching mark would privilege to lead from the front piece where our diamond, all which we'll call the belt, must also be true because we eventually will join it together with a large assembly. Make sure it's omega1 mark on where you will position your belt in your front part of the whole loop. Because we wanted to protect ourselves from getting damaged. We can use the clean side of our body blogs. This process is exactly the same as we did previously with the overpower the front side and that gap of the holder. Okay. Don't forget to install about doing this teaching pulses. Once all the pieces are assembled, we only need to polish the edges of a pen holder by sounding the edge to leave it as even as smooth as possible and proceeds to use water are wooden burnisher. And finally, our burnishing gum and Gamble's to polish. To sum the edge. You can use this on paper directly or a monitor tool such as Dremel to make things faster. I like using my journal because it saves me time and leaves a good finished on my project. But you can use whatever method you wish, as long as the edge finished looks good at the end. Good. Okay. Yeah. And the next and final lesson where we'll see the final result and talk about the project for this class.
6. Final result and final project: At this point we're almost done with the pen holder. From the outside is actually totally finished. You can judge by the edge finish suggested. Hey, if it still doesn't convince you, give the ash and other Polish and you'll quickly notice a difference. The more you polish with a phase of Canvas, the more it will shine. So if your intention is to leave a matter semi matt finish, a few rocks will work well. Whereas if you intend to live with very shiny, apply more burnishing gum and rob the edges with your Canvas. The last step is to give the holder more flexibility. Since the piece has been staged in his firm, retiring with self, with a plastic bone folder, you can begin by introducing both sides to the holder until you get as deep as possible. This step is important to avoid your pens from getting stuck in the holder. Eventually, whatever they use, the letter of the holder will break in and your friends will fade with no pressure applied.
