1. Intro: Hi, everyone. My name is Patty Got away. I'm a full time youtuber who makes animated explainer videos. I've grown my child to over 100,000 subscribers and I get millions of views every month. But by far the biggest question I get asked is, how do I make my videos? Well, today, I'm gonna answer that question by showing you how to make high quality animation videos using video scribe. It doesn't matter if you're a complete beginner or if you've already used animation cel for in the past. I've mixed in the fundamentals with some advanced tapes to give your videos the edge. So if you're ready to make an animation for free and in under one hour, let's get straight into us.
2. Project and Resources: thank you for enrolling in this class. I can't wait to go through everything. I just want to take a minute to talk about the project and resource is section First things first. The software we're using today is, of course, called the video Scrape. Now I've left to links to sign up down below one for the full paid version on one for the free seven day trial. The trial does have some disadvantages, including an annoying watermark on some export limitations. But for what we're gonna do today, it's their find to try things out, and then you can decide if you want to upgrade later on. Now, the cost project today is to make a 32nd animation on any topic you're interested in. I'll be doing this with you myself along every step of the way. But if you don't have your own audio or you don't want to do your own voice over, you can use my one, which I'm gonna be using for my projects. I leave it down. Odling in the resource is section as well. I'll also include another one in there just in case you want to try something different now , My teaching style is very hands on. I'm gonna go through making an entire project from scratch. But if at any point you feel left behind or that you have any questions you feel are unanswered, just let me know and I'll answer every single one of them. I'm really excited to get this started. Let's go.
3. Videoscribe Walkthrough: So first things first, let's walk through all the important features and video scribe and set up our canvas. So when you first open up video scribe, you'll be taken to this screen here. It's a really nice place to scroll through your past and present projects. And, of course, if you've never used to suffer before, you'll have nothing here. But as you can see, I use it lost. I pretty much use it for all my videos, and it's really nice to have to dip in and dip it whenever I want. But anyway, for the purpose of this class, we're gonna hit this book. No pair to create a new script because we want to build a nomination from scratch. So once you click, that button will be taken through to your project screen. This is effectively your canvas. It's where the magic happens on. You'll put all your automation and text before anything that's just quickly hit, save and given a name. So I'm gonna call this one skill share project. Okay, so next up, let's pick our background. So, as I said, this is where all the animations would be placed on. It's important to get the right kind of background to suit your video. So if you click this button up here, you have a few different options. Have you seen my own videos? You know, I like to use wife. I think it gives a kind of white board field that's very good for teaching videos because everything is so clear and easy to read. However, somebody eruptions here are really cooed as well. And I think for this video, I'm gonna go with this. One kind of looks like paper. Also, you can just click this one and pick any color you want. But for now, let's just hit. Click on. There you go. As you can see, it's kind of a nice texture to it. It feels almost like a piece of paper, and it's gonna be really cool base for our animations. So next up, hit this button up here. Now, if you don't know video scribe, it's actually software that uses hand motions to mimic the drawing of animations so you'll see what I mean. We're taking this so the hand would actually trace through the text. Our animation you're making. Now I really like this feature. It's really cool, but personally, I usually use no hand. So that looks like this is just kind of appears magically and draws itself in. I personally think this just looks a little bit more professional and clean, but either way is cooked for this video. I'm going to select this option both. If you want to comprise through a number of different options here, you can even use whatever these are. Zipper, I don't know why anyone would use that, but you can if you want to. And it's there is an option. So, as I said, I'm just gonna use no hand because I think it looks the cleanest and what I use for most of the animations on my channel. Okay, so we've said the background saved the project on selected the animation style. But next up, let's actually talk about the animation and text itself. So in video scrape, the beautiful thing about it is if you click this button here, you have a catalog of different animations to pick from. So right here you're seeing some of the ones I've used recently and see some of the ones I've used in my last few videos. But on here. The left. You have a huge menu of categories to pick from. So why was the cake celebration, for example? Andi, There we go. There's a shamrock up there for ST Paddy's Day. That's my name. So we're gonna used us like I'm dragged that in on. If you click it again, I could just talk through some other things. So yet you have a huge range of different images to pick from, and these are all provided by video scribe as a part of their package. So you don't have to pay for these. You don't have to do any work there just there. It's a beautiful thing. You can also search for certain terms. So if I was to search for crowd, for example, um, there we go. I use a lot of these in my videos. So, for example, this one here is a picture of crowd on. There you go. That's how you pick the animations. Now, of course, I'm going to show how you make them appear disappear, cholera and all that good stuff in the next few classes. But for now, I just want to show you how you select, um, and of course as well. You have this button here, which is odd. New text. You click that and then you get it in textbooks that are text that will automatically add to your canvas. Now I found using the basic fund stashed video scribe provide. It's a bit weird. You have to do double spaces for it to look good. I'll just show you what I mean. I, um, Irish, for example, with no double spaces. It just looks a bit crowded, very crowded. Actually, they think about it. It just looks a bit it weird. So what I will do here is three tough and type it again with double spaces. It's these little tricks that sometimes whips that sometimes make all the difference to the software because you're trying to be a perfectionist here on you want everything to look nice and clean. So that's what looks like with all the spaces. It looks much cleaner, and, as you can see there, I bought it to animations. I've added text this quickly is that very easily, and it makes it look like I've done some insane amount of work here to make thes, but they're already there and provided for you, and that is the great thing about video scrape. So as you've seen me do there, it's really easy to resize images and text. You just click on it and use these buttons here to make it smaller or larger. You can also click and drag to move it anywhere around the canvas. And if you click outside the cameras on just drag like this, you can move your whole compass around to set up new frames. So say, if you wanted everything to display here on, then you wanted to move onto your next scene. Here you go, and then you can do that. You can also zoom in and zoom out using these buttons. Here, zoom in, as you may put so say, for example, if you wanted to make a really surface level, look at all your animations, you could zero and look around, or even if you wanted to have certain animations at a different zoom level. So if you want to do is to be 100% on your next animation over here to be assumed that a bit more, you can do that, and then you can see here you have your timeline. This is where all your elements are displayed in chronological order. It's really easy to reposition them by just dragging them on, dropping them across the time line. You can also really quickly delete them by pressing this button here. So this is how to set up your video scribe comments on a quick walk through of most of the main features. Now let's get into the actual animation.
4. Animating images: right. So now we have our project canvass all set up. Let me show you how we can add images and animate them from the video scribe library. Okay, so now let's get into the actual animation of the images. Click on your ad new image button again, I'm gonna add in my shamrock on. First of all, you can, of course. See, you can resize it as I showed you before using these side buttons here, you can click on drag it around and you're on the screen on if you double click your open with the image properties window. Now, on this window you have four main tubs. You've got the select image time which you can use to change the image really quickly. You've got the graphic filters which you can use to change the appearance of the image. You have the drawing options, which is the important part. This is how we're actually going to animate the image on. We have the drawing hand, as we've discussed before. Above you can change this to whatever you want. So going back to the drawing options tab on his first look at the three different ways we can animate our images. This is draw moving and fade. So draw. It looks like this pretty cool movie in looks like this on a fade in Looks like this. So these are the three main styles of animation and video. Scribe, I'm gonna quickly change this back to draw because it's my favorite one. So underneath this, you can see you can also change the image color. I'm gonna leave that as it is because green for Shamrock, I don't mess around with dust. You have an apostasy slider here so you could make it really see through. If you want on, you have another rotation feature here. So if you want to rotate the image, you can do that using thus. But what I really want to focus on for now is the animated pause and transition timers. So every animation you making video scribe is timed over three main areas the animate, which is the actual drawing or moving in or fading in of the image. So that's this passion. So that takes three seconds. Then you have the pause, which is the amount of time after the animation takes place, that the image stays in the one place, so 0.5 seconds. So if I changed out to two seconds and stay for two seconds, you see what I mean? So this is really useful for trying to time a bunch of animations in a role using your timeline. So if you were talking in your video about char marks and then you moved on to crowd after three seconds or something, you could tell him. They said at the Paulist feature made sure that the minute you stop talking about char marks, it would move onto the next animation. We're gonna do this a lot more in our class later on about piecing everything together. But it's really important to understand what they are all used for. And then the transition is the amount of time it takes to move from one automation to the other. I'll go through how this all looks in live action in just a minute. So if we just mess around with timing here and decide on the right one, so say 2.53 D animation, one for the pause and one for the transition. It looks like this. Okay. And then we had take to say those settings. So now we've got those setting saves. So this animation will take that amount of time to come up, pause on, move onto the next one. So let's move this around. So it's in a certain part of the screen. So say, if we want to put something to the right, we should move this into the left. That's it. Even in this position, we make sure we have selected the clip on. We hit this button here to set the camera position. So now if we press preview, we will see that it stays at this side of the screen that animates over here, giving us space here to do our next animation. There you go. So that's really cool. So we can put in another animation over here so we would use the crowd animation resource this soap. They start their and then also have this selected on head camera position so it appears, appear to and double click. That's click as he was moving for this one. Moving in from the right. Let's do a smooth move in effect on let's make it two seconds because in general, when I'm doing movie in animations, I'd like to keep it around two seconds. So it's nice and snappy like that. And then we'll do. Let's do it to two second policies. Time out of one second transition press. OK, so now let's see what this all looks like. Put together for. Charlotte comes in on the left, animates pauses for 0.5 seconds on. Then, Boom! The next one comes in, pauses for two seconds on. There we go. So that's the really basic explanation of her animation's working video scribe as other features as well that I'm gonna discuss really quickly. So say, for example, if you want to zoom into something, you have these arrow keys here, which is the zoom buttons on. As you can see at the moment, it's set on 100% which means it's just as it is now. But if we were to put in another animation, say, for example, and Mr say, whatever that's to say these trees, for whatever reason, Um, there's some weird looking trees, some of the animations videos, very parodist, weird, but most I'm really good. So if we were to put this make this actually quite small and then zoom in so if you want to do is oum in? So that's 214%. Then we could make sure were selected it on. Said the common position. So now if we go impress our preview Wait, hold on. I'll just make this. He s a draw. Two seconds. One second, pose one second transition. So if I was to play that now you'll see it zoomed in from the rest of the animations. So I play from the start. This is all in 100% transition room on, then transition him. Okay, so this is really the basic way to start setting up your animations. Obviously, a lot of it comes down to trial and error and trying a few different things yourself. I like to keep things quite fast paced. So in general, I keep my animations pretty quick on my transitions pretty quick as well. One second, 0.5 seconds around that kind of areas. There's the best for me. I think I also like to not put too much on one screen the one time, So I do a lot of moving around. So say, for example, are just really, really quickly. So if we have this all in the same frame. So let's say if we select all these clips by pressing shifts, select, select and then hitting said camera position. So all these clips are now gonna be in the same frame with same composition. But then we want to put another flip down here, or another image down here and all of a graph. Someone put a graph in the middle there. We want to keep it in the middle so we make sure we've selected and press set camera positions. When I was in this frame, it's on 100% and then we'll just do well. They're fading for this one. So we'll do. Was that the fade into one second? Because with failings, you want to keep them quite snappy, so it doesn't take too long. I would put it 1.5 2nd pause. So now every play that's gonna start you'll see what I mean. So the shamrock crowed. The weird trees. I know it's gonna move down using the transition feature boom, so hopefully that makes sense to everyone watching. I think it's quite easy when you get into it, and it also as I said before. The great thing about this offers, it makes you feel like you're doing a lot more work than you are, whereas really, it is the software that's doing all the heavy lifting for you. But it's all about playing around, trying to find what style works best for you and generally like to keep maybe two or three images per screen and have a title or some form of text or arrows or some sort of other feature, which I'll explain in the next class. And then I like to do a lot of movements advancing around circles, left right, and you just drag around to move arranger screen like this, you can mess around with zooming, so if you want to do is a marriage of something. So if you were really close in, you want to zoom way out on do like something bigger hair or some text here or something like that, you can do that. It's the so many different ways of doing it on the great thing about every describe is every comes down to your own personal style, so you can really kind of you don't have to follow exactly how I do my animations. You can do it completed from way, and it still looks great
5. Animating text: Okay, so now reverted to out images. Let's look at text having a noise ratio of images. The text is a recipe for success when it comes to animations. So the good news is that animating text is pretty much the exact same process as animating images. So if we click on the add new textbook in here on, we come up with this ad text window So here you can sexually from fonts. You can add new fancies in the managed funds button. You can left the line center line, right line on. You can, of course, pick your phone caller. So I'm just gonna go with black. I'm gonna go center line, and I'm gonna use the basic front. So let me type in the space race. You see, I've used the double spacing again in here between words, but because this is a title, I usually like to go with three. I know it's a little bit of an annoyance, but it makes all the difference. Okay, so let's resize this Hope has put it in the middle of the screen. Let's make sure we haven't selected on. Then we're gonna hit set camera position. I actually just seems a bit further to the right song. And it just by eye moving and living there. Set camera position. Okay, let's preview this and see what it looks like. Okay, So as you can see there, it's a pretty cool, revealing effect where the text animates in letter boy leisure. All right, so if we double click on the text, we bring up the text properties window that this is exactly the same as the image properties window, so I won't talk through it all again. But you have your three stars of animation. You have your pretty box. You have your timers and everything there. So for this text, because it's quite short, I'm gonna keep the animation two seconds. The polls of one second on the transition at one second. I think that's a pretty nice sweet point. So the pretty that it looks like this as we showed before. Now I want to show you something that I use a lot with my titles. So I like to have my titles take up a lot of space in the middle of the screen before giving away and moving up to the top and giving room for actual image animations. So to do this is really simple. So we've already said the current position here it's a 100% So that zoom O'Shea to, let's just say 68% this drug, this text a move. We're not dragging the text. We're moving the screen up, so you can see here. We're not actually selecting the text. This is moving on the screen. So now that the screen is a different place, the camera position is in a different place on the text is actually in the same place. It's just being zoomed ahead and moved across. So if we add images in here, so say, for example, we want this rocket ship to resemble a space race on. We want to odd another image in so that an image from your actual computer, you just his import here on. I've just got this nice picture of, you know, almost put in. So this might take a bit longer than the other one to do. There we go. So I'm gonna add that in when you're writing your own images, they don't animate executive Same. Put this little cool, so I'll just show you what it looks like, say, two seconds. So it's more of a reveal effect. Still, excluding my opinion, So we've added both those in. What we're gonna do is select these two and not the text on then shift subjects to make sure respecting both of them on then set camera position. So now what's gonna happen when we press play is that this space race is gonna come in in the original position we had it in with the cover position on Then it's gonna transition and make way for these two images. It's really cool effect that I use for a lot of my videos. So let me show you what it looks like that comes in, zooms out, and then our images come in. It's very simple, but it gives your animations of it of motion on it. Make sure they're not too stagnant. So that's how you are Text that's so simple on. I just want to quickly show you before we leave. So, by the way, if you double click on any image that would take you to the camera, position is already in. So if you want to quickly check what composition this isn't you just double kick it. The space race that brings you back here. That's a nice little shortcut. Tohave. So what I want to show you really quickly here is if you did want to change the hand for this one to a drawing hand. So, for example, if we've just changed drawing hand for this, this will look like this so we'll actually drawn with the hand, which is quite cool. And then these will go back to just drawing in automatically without a hand. So then tell you animate text and video scrape. It's really simple, and you can make it look really clean and professional. As I've already said, it's all about your personal style and your personal preference. So please mess around with how you animate text, how it appears, what corners you using, what funds using and see what suits your own style.
6. Adding a voice over: All right. So at this point, you know how to set up your canvas Odd images, a text and automate them. However, you need some subject material E g ah, voiceover toe animation over. Let's see how you can add that in Are the music track or a voice over to your project is pretty straightforward. You hit this book in here for voiceover. You first of all, have the option to record your own voice within video scribe itself just by pressing this button here on, then hitting take when you're done. This is a really nice feature, but in general I like to import my own MP three files. So by clicking import, I can select the father want, which is space audio on dykan. Preview it to see if it's the right one. Yes of it. Yes, that's the right one. And it will also play your animation, the backgrounds. You can get a rough idea of how it will look, but we'll go into that in a lot more detail in the next class so we can just add tick on ideas to our project. I also wanted to quickly say that if you want to download. Distract yourself to follow along with its in the project Resource is section So now we have an audio file in the background of our clip. If you want to add music video scribe have this section here where they have a lot of their own tracks. In general, I don't really like these tracks too much, their bit generic, but there might be some diamonds in the rough there. 7. Putting it all together: Now we've covered all the basics. It's time for the fun stuff putting everything together. I recommend everyone to find work for that works for them when they're using video scribe. But I'm going to show you the three step process that I use for all my videos. So this is perhaps the most important part of the whole class, and I think it's really important to keep things metro on for you to follow along. As I do it myself. I want to give you a really good idea of how I put together the animation step by step on. Also leave in the mistakes and even the trial and error so everyone can see the workflow I use while making these videos. But just before we get into this, I want to talk to roofie. The three step process are use every time we make an animation in video scribe. So what Number one is the plan using the script? So the first thing I do when I open a video screen but I have a script or audio already in place is to go through the words I'm using. Go through the themes I'm exploring on just roughly out in images. So you see, I'm talking about it, obviously space travel here and the powerful people involved. So it obviously makes sense to have the space race have a picture representing space exploration. Onda have someone like in almost as the powerful people involved. So really, this is about almost, like, story boarding. You have your words you have your script on, then you just have to go frame by frame, saying what matches for each part of the script that I'm talking about. Okay, I'm actually just gonna pay you the audio and full So you know exactly what we're working with on this animation. The idea of space travel has captured the imagination of the public for decades. Today, the most powerful people in the world are investing billions into their own space programs . Is it simply just a business venture pushing the human race forward? Or is there something more sinister going on behind the scenes in this animated video essay will get to the bottom of the new space race. Welcome to the Mars project. There you go. Very dramatic. I know. But still, a number two is common positions and timing. So once I've added in the different animations for each part of the script. Then I need to set the camera positions where I want TEM. I need to make sure the timing is right. So when we're talking about it almost in the script, I want in almost to appear, then not before, not after. This is probably the hardest on definitely the most important part of the whole process. If things are talking well and in sync, it just looks really unprofessional. A number three is to refine with preview so pressing this button up here gives you a preview of your animation. So the last part of my process is literally just continuously person preview until it's all perfect. So oppress produce. See how it looks decided. Okay, this rocket ship needs to animate a bit quicker. It almost seems to come in a different angle. I'll just go through it like that until everything is perfect. So let's see how this looks in action. I decided the best way to do things was to record my entire animation process, speeded up and then paused certain parts to talk through what I have done. Let's get straight into us. So, first of all, I've covered part one of the animation process. I've used my script, and I planned out how I want everything to look. I've added a new images, new text I've clicked and dragged to the right. So we have a blank canvas to add a new frame for the second passion of the voiceover. - Okay , so now cover part to have gone through all the animations I've picked the animation star that I like. I've made sure that the timing is roughly what I think was sink well to the audio. I've also said the camera position for everything so that all my images and text appears exactly where I want them to. And finally, I've covered her three by pressing the preview button, seeing how everything times together on whenever I noticed. There's a discrepancy. So say if something moves too quickly, something doesn't go with the text at the right time. I've stopped the preview and I have adjusted it. So this really is the tried and they're a part of the animation process. You just have to keep trying until you get everything all aligned property. So now I have my own result. 8. Conclusion: all right, so that was pretty much done. I'm very happy with how my project turned out. The next step is to export the clip. You can do this very easily by hitting this button here and saving it as a Navy on file. Now you'll have your animation for which can be uploaded directly to YouTube. Or you could bring it into a video editor such as premier, pro or final coach on added to your time Right now, Obviously, this is a very short project. Most of my own videos air about 10 minutes long or more, but in this car, so I just wanted to go over the basics that you can build upon yourself.
