1. 1 Introduction: in this short project, we're going to be making a social media rod with zero experience in under 60 minutes. In this project, we will go from start to finish by creating the new project and composition for whatever social media policeman you desire. Facebook Instagram stories will import of royalty free picture for the background on at a slow, basic Zoom on, lock it into place well, as I attached well, enemy, our text in and out we'll add our music on will render a story out. So with that said, I look forward to it. Get ready, stick with me and I'll see you in the next lesson. 2. 2 Set up our project file: All right, guys, Welcome. We won't waste any time today. We're going to get straight into then. So the first thing we need to do is we need to create a new project. So you should have already had that screen pop up when you open up after effects, remember, if you can do this challenge, please post your results. I'd love to see what you guys think of the course is Well, so first thing we want to do is just create open our new project on the very first thing really is Go to file in the top left and then save as and save your project. And we'll just keep this one as Social Media video or something like that. The reason being after effects is also save only ought of saves if you've saved the initial video. So let's hit safe sewn agency at the top. This is saved a social media video. Next, let's just change one important preference. So if we go toe edit on, then preferences and we go down to also save and click you, I like to bring my order saved down to five minutes and then press OK, so now we have our project file set up. Don't worry about the rest of the screen. We're going to use each bet as we need to. So the next part we want to do is create a new composition. So the composition is the. The scene where your video animation will be arranged will go into this in more detail later on. But for now, let's click in the middle. We can go to the middle or we can go to composition. New compositions start. Let's click new composition on Let's call our first composition main and this is just going to be the main composition where everything's shown. The presets here have some presets which may suit, but really this totally depends on how big you want the video to be resolution wise and where you want it to be shown. So let's just say, for example, if you want this video to be shown on Facebook, usually a square video takes up more space. So if you wanna square video, the width and the height should be the same so we could make a square video. But today we're actually going to go for an instagram story, so if you have a look at the moment we've got this preset for a 10 80 it's going to be a landscape video. So if I press OK, don't press okay yet. But I'll just show you five press. OK, we've got this landscape shape or is the instagram story is the opposite. So we're going to do I'm going to go to composition Satins and you should still be here on . We can actually swap these around, so make sure that this box is intact on weaken Go to 10 80 by 1920 and then we have this 9 to 16 ratio, which is going to give us our instagram story background. If you want to make a square video, do 10 80 by 10. 80 on it's going to give you the square. But for now, I'm going to make the 1920. I'd love it if people try different sizes. All the fundamentals are going to be the same. Try and make the sure of so then we hit, okay, and now you can see down the bottom here. We've got Maine, and this is where we're going to be bringing our assets in in this screen in the middle. This is where we're gonna view the story of the composition and then on the left Here, we've got the project file, which just shows three only asset we have in there is our main composition. That moment. And that is everything we need. Before we start bringing in a background, I'm gonna show you two different ways to do that in the next video. So thanks for watching. And I'll see you in part two. 3. 3 Add and scale our background: All right, guys were in part two now, which is great. We're moving through this nicely, so the next thing we need to do is just get our background layer in. So there's two things that we could do here. There's actually lots of things we could do, but let's just look at two basic options. So if I go to layer at the top and then you and then solid what this is going to do, it's going to create a solid, solid color layer, which is gonna be whatever color reset, and it's gonna be in the size by default of the background. So what we could do is we could name this background and then we can click on color and we can just change this to whatever color we like. So we could have, um, maybe, like a pink background like this and breast OK, press OK and you can see down here we've got this solid layer and solid pink so you could add text to that. But it looks a bit flat and a bit boring at the moment, so just a little bonus step. If you do want to go down this route and not use an image which will do next. Let's just have a quick look at the Grady and ramp. So if I go to effects and presets on the right and I start to type Grady in it, you can see I've got radiant Ramp, and I'm just gonna drag this on here. Or if I've got the layers selected, I can just double click on Grady int ramp. So now, Grady, um, ramps come up and it's black on white, which is not what we want. Oops. Excuse me. So if I click on the layer and then you can see in the top left, we've got effects controls. If you haven't got this, you may be on the project. Just click effects controls. And we can change the start and the end color of the ramp so I could click on start and make the start pink, and then I could click on the end color, and I could make this like a darker purple. And then we've got a kind of mawr of a Grady in and a better looking background. And then if we click these little targets, we can actually drag where the ramp starts and we can drag this around. You could go there and then you've got a nice so radiant I think it looked better before. To be honest, you got a nice, soft radiant. So this is one way to make your background. The next thing we're gonna dio is go over to unspool ash, which is a royalty free image website and in unspent, you can just search for a background, whatever you like. And it doesn't have to be unjust pickin. I just I think I said beach vibes in my last one. So or holiday Vives or something like that. So let's just type beach on. We could get anything like any of these pictures really are going to be good. You want to consider that if you've got white text, which I'm going to tissues basic white text. So I don't want the tax to get lost in the background. So I'm looking for something that is gonna be dark it in the middle, and I think this might actually work quite nicely. And if not, then we can always make the backgrounds a little bit darker. So let's just click download free again if you want, you could do anything you like. If you want to go and make a gym image or add, you could get this guy in the gym and put tax on him. Whatever you want to do there and then all I need to do all I'm going to do here is I'm gonna click with the download on. I'm gonna drag this in and just drop it in the time line at the bottom here and you can see the image has gone into after effects already. Now, here is quite an important key thing that will need to know it. So I'm gonna just click on my back room later and delete that, cause I'm not gonna use that anymore. So if I click the layer here, there's a little arrow which drops down and then transformed drops down. Now, this is really important, and it might look overwhelming, but it's gonna be so simple very soon. So these properties are used on pretty much every layer and after effects on, there's some key things that we need to note. So the small stopwatch here is a key frame, but, um, But before we go there, let's just press s on the layer because you can see our layer is too big. So there's two things we could do We could press s to get this scale property on. We can just drag the left number up or down. So just a quick thing to note here at the moment, vertical and horizontal are scaling up and down. If we uncheck, this little item is going to scale, but it's gonna get distorted. So for now, we just want to make sure this is on. But believe it or not, it was a long time before I realized that's how you actually scale the different vertical or horizontal separately. So anyway, for now, let's we can either scale up or down or if we click our layer, go to layer, transform and fit to comp height. We don't want to fitz comp with because it's taller than the concert we go to camp. Height is going perfectly fit this layer to the comp height on. I can already see that the white text might not stand out there. So what we might need to do is put ah, a little bit of a filter over it. But I'll show you how to death in minutes. So for now, or we're going to do, we're gonna press s we're gonna press this little key frame icon, this little stopwatch, and it's going to mean at the start of the timeline, we're going to be at this scale. We're gonna be 36.9 by 36.9. Now, we're going to go to the end of the timeline. I failed to say in the last video Make sure this composite position is 15 seconds. If you haven't done that. Composition, composition, settings on down here. This is at 15 seconds. So hopefully that doesn't cause you too many problems. So now we're gonna do is we're going to go to the end, the timeline, and we're gonna drag this number up a little bit. Or you could type You could type 42 maybe maybe put it up sort of six on, Then you can see that it's set. It's a little key frame at the end as well. And as we dragged through, it's going to give it a lot. Also zoom, which I think looks really good. And then all we need to do is we just lock this background by clicking the little lock over here. And now, if we accidentally try and drag it or we try and click it, we can't because it's locked. And there we have our INSTAGRAM story backgrounds already in place, and in the next video, we're going to add our text. 4. 4 Add our text: So it's time Teoh other attacks to our instagram story. So what I'm gonna do, I'm gonna make sure I've de selected from anything. If I'm if I click anywhere in this gray box in the timeline, I'm gonna make sure in de Selected on I'm gonna go to a top here and click horizontal type tour. And if I click this type tour and I click in the middle is going to create a tax layer, By the way, I'm using my mouse scroll wheel to just zoom in and out. And if ever you want to move around, if you press hate, you get the hand tool. Uh, I'm actually typing hitch press control and enter to de select from the text layer on, then press he each you can actually drag this around. So if you're zoomed in here, you want this little hand tool selected and you can drag around on If you ever just get lost, oppressive V to go back to your selection tour on, just click on the percentage here and go back to fit, and then it's got all gonna fit back together. So just some quick little tips there. So you can see. I've still got this text layer selected, so I'm going to start type in Let's type beach here, and I'm gonna make this one word on its own. Now if I try to change the size by going over to the character panel on the right, if I try and make the tax bigger, smaller, it's not because the text isn't highlighted. So we can just collect, double click on the beach layer down here or double click on the tax and says, Red on, we can make this bigger like so and then I also like to go toe a line here, which I'm going to do quite a bit during this tutorial on a line horizontally on Horizonte Klay, horizontally and vertically as you can see. Like I said before, we can't really see Beach. It's a little bit too bright, so there's an effect that we could do. We can go to effects and presets on select curves. There's two ways we could do this, actually, and if we drag curves onto our image, we'd need to unlock the image in the corner. And then if we drag curves onto our image, you can see curves has come up in the top left again This all looks but crazy or you've got notice to make it darker Drag the top right point of curves and just bring it down And that you go So you can either do that But let me just show you one more way If we just I'm gonna press control Z, I'm gonna undo this I'm gonna go layer new solid and I do this quite a lot And then I'm going to click on make this a black solid It's gonna be the same size on a drag under beach in the timeline. So remember, whatever is nearest the top is dominant over whatever is below. So then if I click on black solid impressed t t for tango, I'm gonna bring up the opacity and then I just drag the blue number down a bit and I just drag it until you can see Beach clearly. But we don't want to drown out the picture. And I think that looks really nice. So if I want to close all these layers, I press l And if I want to open them, I pressure you and it opens my key. Framed layers express l Let's make sure backgrounds locked on Take a breather. We've got the first better text him, which is looking great already. You can change the font if you want. It's all just in the character man. You just go through the front. You like there, Andi, If ever you're text goes out of whack, just press a line and go align horizontally and then vertically. All right, so we need another tax layer. We need to make sure when not selected on this tax layer on impressed T. And then we could put vibes like this. And then he is how I like to make sure things are equal in a in an easy way possible. If I select beach on vibes and hold shift and then I go to a line, I make sure that these say this says a line latest composition on I clicked horizontal and vertical. Then what I'll do is our click on beach and I'll hold shift. I'm a press the arrow key up, and it gives it like 10 pixels movement. I think on I might go up with beach and down revives That would beach down vibes we'll go down again. Revives in an uproar. More with beach on DNA. Now we know that they were both the same off center, So this is gonna be bang on equal, which is perfect. Really? Ok, so now we've got the beach vibes in here, Andi. Then finally, we're going to have a little swipe now at the bottom. So what we do is we click anywhere, we'll swipe up, and then we're going to make this a bit smaller. I might even change the fun. Maybe I'll go Teoh monster at bold here on, Just make this tax a little bit smaller on. Then what we could do is we can align this to the center, bring it down to the bottom, and then just hold shift and bring this up, Maybe two. And it's bang on in the middle. And we've already got something that is just looking really clean and nice. You could get away with this, but if you want to keep going and get more advanced, let's get into the next video. Unless anime our text a little bit in Andhra Out. See you in the next 5. 5 Animate!: Okay, so this is where things start picking up. Stay with me. If you need to go back and pause or see what I've done. Just stay with me. You will get this. This is the bit where we get more advance. And this is what's gonna set you apart from everyone else using simple video software. So this timeline, it plays along, left to right on. Obviously, everything below the timeline head is being shown. So let me just show you what happens if I drag beach out the way beaches are gonna be shown here on the screen. So what we could do is we could drag our layers out on Dhere if I hold shift. By the way, it's gonna snap to that play head. So I drive the layer out, I drive vibes a bit more, and then I drag swipe up. So here is just simply really basic. You could go with that. You could render that out, and that is fine. But we're going to do something a bit more different, so just follow along. Do as I do, and you will understand this. So what I'm going to do is I'm gonna twirl down beach, and then I'm gonna go toe enemy, and I'm gonna click position on the same principles that we learn Now apply again and again throughout after effects. So when you get your head around this once, it's just gonna be really easy. So in my head, what I want is I want beach to slide up and then I want vibes slide below it. So what I'm gonna do is I'm going to click a. I'm gonna go forward one second and then I'm going to click the position Key frame. So after a fax knows at one second in, I want beach vibes to be here, and then I'm going to scroll back on. I'm going to drag it down completely out of the way. So you get this sort of animation, right? But two things here, one you don't want to see it when it struck down and to the animation looks rubbish because it's really slow and boring. Now what we're gonna do is we're gonna click beach here on. We can either go layer new. We need to go mask new mask, or we can press control, shift an end for November and see how this mask has been drawn about around Beach masks are a topic of the room. But just know that what it means is that as we scroll back now, it's only gonna show beach within the mask, which is perfect. So let's have a look now. You've got Beach coming out in the mask and then all we do is we can do the same for VIPs. So let's go to scroll down by clicking the little arrow down and go toe animate on. We'll go to position and then we'll go one second in on. We will click position here and then we'll go back to the start. We can actually stay at one second. We could put the mask on now. Control shift in end. You can see the mask has gone around on. Then we can scroll back to the start and we can drag this up. So now you can see we've got that sort of look, which looks pretty awesome, if you ask me. But the animation is really slow. So this is where it could look really off putting. But what we're gonna do. First of all, let's select our key frames on less press f nine and you can see that they've changed. So what this means is, before the key frames were just animating in a linear fashion, So they were going from one point to the other at the same speed. So now we've pressed f knowing what this does is it adds Eazy e's an easy easy just means that the speed speeds up and then slows down. So we've got a smoother animation here. So now we're gonna do is I'm gonna slept both my key frames and I'm gonna select this little graph Editor icon at the top. By the way, if you haven't got any of these icons, you may be or any of any of this these little guys in the corner, Just make sure you've got them collect, Not that last one. You don't really need that. Just make sure so you can see everything here. So follow me with this slack. Both these key frames press the graph editor and you can see now we've got this graph which just shows that the animation speeds up and slows down. Looks crazy. But bear with me if you haven't. If you can't see this right click and make sure you've got edit speed graph here. Now, if I zoom in, zoom in here. If I collect either these handles, what I can do is Aiken change of speed. So the speed either speeds up. If you have a look at vibes, see how vibes nudges in now, nudge. So we're gonna select that, and then we're going to do the same for Beach. So we're select both the key frames graph editor, collect the bottom left and just pull it across to the middle. So now see how they've got that kind of slightly got break some and you can play around with these. You can actually select them all, drag them all into the middle and get a nice nudge like that, which I think I'm gonna leave mine at now. If I press, l I collapse the layers, Aiken go to fit. And now we've got beach vibes popping in like that, which is looking great. Maybe you can get Swiper to fly him from the bottom. So what we're going to do now is just go to swipe up. Press P, um maybe will go. Teoh. I'm just going to two seconds and 20 frames hit and P coming back to two seconds and just dragging it off the screen by bringing the right number down. We're bringing the vertical number down, and that's just going to bring it in like that. And then we're going to do the same, select both the key frames and press F nine, and now it's got like, an East sort of animation. And then we can go into the graph. Add, sir, and you can, either, if you drag it towards the star. Most of the animation happens, and it's got the brakes on. If you drag it the move towards the middle, it kind of gives you that jerky animation, which I really like. So now if we drag to the starters, Hoenlein, we've got that. But I think I want beach wives. And then straight after, I really want that swipe up. Come in. So what I can do is I can just drag my key frames bear in mind if you can't see any of thes , just press you and you can see where your key frames. I could drag these key frames so that they're in line so that just After that animation swipe up comes in. And now, to reverse this animation, if you want to get really crazy with this, if you want to reverse the animation, what we can do is we can duplicate this layer less pressure you so you can see. And then if I go to time and time reverse layer, you can see that it's actually reversed the layer. So what I need to do first is I need to Kurt my initial beach layers. Unimpressed Alz on right square bracket on. Then I'm going to go up to my beach, too, and I'm gonna press all and left square bracket on just to make this easier to see, I'm going to drag this below. So you've got beach one. And to effectively you duplicate beach, cut both the layers on. Reverse it on now. What's gonna happen is beach is going to disappear like this. So you've got Beech comes in. I might even drag this layer back. So that beach despues here and then all I'll do is I'll cut this from the start off this with Alton and left Bracket. And now you can see Beach. You'll come in and it will go out. Same animation out. So it's nice and smooth, and then all we do is do the same with Vibe. So I'm just going to do this quickly because we've just seen it. So I'm just gonna open up on my key frames here. I'm gonna go time reverse layer for vibes. I can just drag vibes back on. Just hold shift so that it snaps to that key frame to the same same position. Alton left bracket to trim that version or on right bracket to trim that version. So now and then finally was swipe up. I can do the same. I can duplicate time reverse layer again. If you're getting all of this, please post your results on Let's see what you've come up with because you're really keeping up. Well, So the animation was a little bit shorter for Let's actually closed these layers. And that's just open up, swipe up. So yep. So the animation actually took place where the other animation ended. So we can go to about here on swipe up. It's going to disappear. And then all we've got to do is trim these layers down. So you see we end up with the opposite beach vibe, swipe up, beach fives disappears, Swipe up disappears. All right, now, what about all this? We want to trim the fat off this. So I'm gonna press shift, snap to the end, Bailey head, And then I'm gonna go drag this little blue guy across and hold shift and then right click and trim Compton work area, and it's going to make the composition this long, which looks great. So that's everything for this short little lesson on on animation, the final part is going to be added. Add answer music and rendering this out so we can use it wherever we like on. I'll see you in the next lesson. 6. 6 Music, Render and Congratulations!: Okay, so we are in the final part off this short project on what I'm going to do is just add some music. So I like to use sound stripe. So if I click on the top and go to sound striped dot com, there's tons of royalty free sites, but I really like to use sound stripe. I can leave a link below for sound stripe. I fourty and I've paid for it for the year. And you can just get a license for each song that you want to use. So I'm gonna go to songs, and then I'm gonna go down to mood on Just chill and I'm gonna find something chilled, man. I like it. That's perfect. So I'm gonna go toe license, social media ad or whatever advertising, marketing not gonna be shown on telly generate license and that this will let you download any vision. I always just download the full version on. Then do any editing I need. And I'm just going to drag my download in, or you can always go file import file on Just bring anything in. Now if I bring it down the audio, you can see the way form. So as I expected, this might not start right at the start. So I can do is just drag this across and then if we press go, okay. And then what we could do is just add a key frame by hitting audio levels about two seconds from the end, go across and then just drag the key frame down so the or do dips out a little bit and then we get a nice, smooth face. So I'm just going to go down to, like, minus 29 something like that on. Then it phase out. Finally, if you wanted to add like a little fade to the story, you could just go to layer new solid and create a new black solid and then bring this down on, then maybe press t on key frame 20 opacity. Just need a bit from the end and then go right to the end and increase the capacity. You can trim this, lay it down as well, if you want, and then you can get all right. So that's perfect. So now all I want to do is render this out. So I use adobe media encoder, which allows you to export the project or render it out while you doing other things and after effects. But I'll just show you the basic way to Randa first. So if we go toe, add to render queue file export, add to render queue and then all I changes, I go to lost less, because this a V I file is gonna be huge on. I just bring this down too Quick time. But I don't have a Mac, so I used Adobe media encoder. So what you could do is you could go to quick time If you've got a Mac output to and then all you've got to do output to on, you've got your you select your folder, you press safe, save this is main or whatever you want, and then just hit Render here. But I'll show you the way I do it with Adobe Media encoder. So make sure you're in this composition file export at the media encoder que, and it's gonna pull through the project into media encoder like this, and the Law of God do is click here and then when I type in Instagram video ad and then press play, this is going to render out and hate to 64 former, which is a really great former. I could even close after effects. Now I could save this and close this down on it's still gonna be go in and then when I click the Blue Link it's going to take, it's going to take me to my projects and then I can just double click on the video. So there you have it. Hope you've enjoyed this short course and you're making your INSTAGRAM videos. If you're in my group depends on way you'll see in this video. If you're in my group, please post in there. Andi, I'd love to see your projects and let me know what you think off the tutorials on. Just keep going and keep digging and keep creating your own amazing stuff. Thank you for watching
