1. Create a Title Transition Template in After Effects: how goes My name's right, and in this short course, I'm gonna show you how to make a title transition template like this in after effects. These transitions a great fried in production value to work things like courses by being consistent and on brand. First, we'll look at how transitions work. Next, I'll show you have to create a simple animated background. You can copy me or use the principles to create your own style. Then we'll add on enemy our text. Finally, I'll show you how to import this project any other projects, so you could use it again and again. This course is beginning friendly as well. Explain things step by step, but intermediate users might pick up a gold, another or two, so thanks for stopping by and I'll see you in the course. 2. Welcome and How do Transitions Work?: welcome, guys. And thanks for joining. My name is Ryan, and I'm gonna take you through, create in this transition title template, ideal for course creation and things like that maybe doesn't really make sense flying over the skyline at the moment. But this the principles that we apply, you'll be able to make your own transitions. You learn a little bit about animating tax as well. Andi, I'd love to see what you guys do, too, if you join this course. I've got a group of avid key editors and designers, and we're all working on growing together. So I've left a pdf in the description below, and it should have a link to my group in a password. So if you can get in there, that great. So I'm just going to show you quickly how a transition generally works. So ultimately, a transitional filled the screen so it doesn't have to be like mine is right now. And I'm just gonna download another another clip just to give you an example. But a transition will fill the screen, and then when that screen is filled, the clips will change. And then as it goes out, you'll be into the new clip. But this kind of transition, if you've ever taken of course, before you might have, for example, you might have this pop up as the course intro and then say you in your next lesson or later on you want to break the course up, you could just bring your transition over on, then click into the transition on. Just change the text in here and we could say anything, really, So we could say like Lesson two, how to be amazing on. Then, when we go back to our project file, you can see that we've got the template there on the next transition Comes in on it, changes dynamically, and we can just drag this into any projects. So just to give you an example with the two clips as well, this transition might not really suit these two clips. In fact, it really doesn't but suppose you got two clips here? We've got a hard transition like that. Then, if some reason you wanted to use this transition in there, you could. But you could also you could you could use the principles with any transition. It could just be a circle that disappears. But yeah. So whether you, Brian, you or your intermediate Like I said, you might learn something from this. You will most likely benefit one way or another, and I'm gonna keep it short and sweet. I'll be quiet now, Andi, I'll see you in the group. Thanks. 3. Create a Simple Shape Transition : Hi, guys. Welcome back, Ryan. Here on, we're going to get straight into it. So time is money. So let's not throw it away. So I'm just gonna make a new composition, By the way, I'm not gonna be going through all the little details of after effects. I'm just going toe talk through the process. So if you're a complete beginner, maybe you want to check out my after facts, Fundamentals course. But otherwise, if you follow along, you should get it. So on creating a new composition. Just calling this main. And I'm selecting a preset that is a landscape 1920 by 10. 80 like a wide screen, you know, standard TV kind of view on duration. I've got 10 seconds. This could be whatever you want. All we need is a composition. I've just called this main. Let's delete that previous one. Okay, so the first thing I want to show you is just a really simple transition on some key Freeman. All right, some animating. So I'm gonna go to lay it new solid Onda. Let's just make let's just make maybe a dark grey solid here like this. So there's something we can do straight away. So I'm just gonna zoom in here. Onda less just key. Frame the position. Let's go toe one second, hippie on position. Hit Kiefer and go back on. Let's drag this all the way off. All right? So festival we get this, and then if we go to two seconds as well, we can drag it all the way off to the right. And now you can see we've got three key frames so you can see where this is going already. If a this point you swap the clips under here, you would have a transition. But the transition looks really bad. It's really slow. So what I might do is zoom in a bit more. I might bring this downs 15 frames. Here's a little trick of you. Click them all and hold Alz on drag in. It's going to scale them down, um, respectively, so that you could go down 15 on it, skills them together. So you've got this pretty basic animation, right? So that's that's one transition. But if we want to make this bit more exciting, less stress after nine t Eazy e's. So that already looks a bit smoother. That's a really smooth movement. But what we can also do is we can select these key frames, go into our bar graphic If we press after nine first, we're just gonna easy's them, which gives a nice speed up speed down. But if we drag these handles in, we can get a sharp movement like this. And I really like this transition. Here's another tip. If we duplicate this, my family issues. If we duplicate this layer moving across a little bit and then all we do is go to layer solid settings and change the color on one layers. We kind of get a like that, right? So then all you need to do is if this was your transition and you rename this transition, let's make a new composition. For example. You don't need to do this if you're following along and you've made your transition than great. I'm just gonna show you a quick example. So if we went to a new composition, Onda, let me just drag in two clips just to show you Let's put one there and one there. Now, if we drag our transition in, you can see you can see the transition is really long because this composition is too long . So what want to do is press you on just festival. Yeah, let's trim to the end key friends and let's bring this down and trim this composition here . So this compositions probably short like that. And now if we go here, we've tracked that in there we go. So that's one form of transition. But we're gonna get on to make in the more advanced transition. So, Lester Lee everything here. If you have made this transition by the way on, you want to use it as a video file than what you need to do is export on at surrender que But you need to click here and you need to choose toe RGB and Alfa, which will remove this black. It will mean it's transparent, so you could literally drag the movie file. Eso I've It's on a V. I would make this quick time. And then if you go to our to be an Alfa use change the destination here and hit render. You're going to be able to use that movie file without the black background, so that's what you would do in that situation. So let's move on to the more advanced background 4. Create an Advanced Motion Graphics Background: Alright, guys. So, no, we've created a simple, simple transition. I'm gonna show you how to make someone just let more advanced, but it's really not to advance, but let's start. Ah, proper project on Let's make another circle. You could make a square, my phones vibrate. And again, I'm so sorry about this. You could make a square. You could make a rectangle. Whatever you need to do for what we're going to do in this one is we're gonna make this composition 10 seconds long, make a new composition 10 seconds long. Brand new. Now we're not talking about the old one. Make sure the anchor points in the center of this baby on. Then let's go to Let's zoom out. Um, make this shape the full length a layer on. We're going to go scale from zero. Uh, let's get zero. Okay on. We're going to go 15 frames in and we're gonna zoom up all the way so it fills the screen like this. And you can do that in whatever color you like on. If you want to change key frames, you could Easy's f nine or you could I'm actually gonna go to 20 frames. I'm just going to take this out to 20 frames. I think I want to be a little bit longer. Andi, I don't like the animation. So we're going to do is I'm just gonna pull these leave is in a little bit just to give that a smoother animation. Now, what I'm gonna do is I'm gonna create another circle, but I'm gonna kind of put it where I wanted to finish. So I'm gonna fill this circle in a different color. Let's go for that. Like hot pink that we did before. I suspect right may want to get down. I have got some brand guidelines somewhere. But for this, just a downer. So we could make this how, however we want that looks right. So So you want it to be like this? We're gonna go Scale Here. Press s again. Bring this down on. We're going to go to zero here as well. But we want this to come in after. So when? When this has already felt the screen by here. Then we're going to stop bringing in our second circle. So we get that. Andi, I kind of want to drag this second key for him out of it, Aunt. Want to get I'm gonna hit f nine and I'm going to bring them to the left so it starts quicker and drags out a little bit more, so you'll see what I mean. Now see how it's like it's fast and then it kind of, like, slows down a little bit. Might even take that up to two seconds. So the initial looks nice. And another thing I like to do is I like to keep this grow in. Um, I might take it to five seconds. I might just go toe 105 So does that think there's a problem here? Because because of the easy ease, this is gonna let me just show you the key friends. So see how it's got this kind of raised curve. So if that happens, you have to do it manually. Because what I wanted to do, I want it to speed up. Ah, sorry. When when it's easy is in here, I just want to stay the same speed right now. It's going stops, and then it starts growing again, eases in. So what I'll do is I'll select all these on Riverton Tellinya on. Remember, By the way, whatever design you're doing, it really doesn't matter. All you need to do is fill the screen. Andi, do whatever you want that because this is gonna be pretty composed. And this is gonna be, you know, your background. So what I'm gonna do here, So obviously, I want that bit to be sped up, so I'm gonna go into my key friends. I'm just gonna do the same thing, But I haven't got easies, and you'll see that this line stay straight. If this is all a bit overwhelming, don't worry. Just use Easy's press after nine. Make it as simple as you want, but you can see now it keeps growing a little bit. So it keeps just a little bit of movement in there, which I kind of like, and they want to get to five seconds. I'm going to make a key frame on both. And then I like to go about three seconds. Three friends in or maybe five frames forward. Bring the scale up a little bit. And then a few friends across and just bring them both down to zero. So yet, So you get that but you can see again that the kind of going a bit weird here. So what I might do is bring the gray key frames out. So the pink goes first. It really you could You could do this however you want. They're just going up on. Then. If you want to add motion, blur on, you can by hitting this. So you get that sort of look, so you get more of, ah, blurry transition. Andi, honestly, I'm not overly happy with how these transitions are looking, so we've only bean increasing the scale. So what I'm gonna do is I'm gonna come to five seconds. Not gonna hit Pay on. I'm gonna go forward a couple of frames, like maybe five frames, and I'm gonna bring them both up, and then I'm gonna go five friends forward and take them both completely off. I think that looks a bit better. This coming in like this and then boom, and it goes out. I think it's a little bit long, but for the sake of this course, let's just get on with that song and a trim these two layers on. I'm going to drag the come to the work area trim the constant work area. So now I've just got this and I'm gonna rename transition. I'm gonna rename this to background. So the composition that we're in is called background. And then finally, I'm gonna create a new composition. 10 seconds long, I'm gonna call this main. I'm gonna drag background into Maine. And so I'm gonna go to the end, trim the come back down to the to the trimmed comp size, and then this is our main composition. And in the next lesson, we're gonna just add some stylized text, so I'll see you in the next lesson. 5. Text, Render, Congratulations!: right, guys, we're back on. We are in a fun. But of course I love add in text and typography. It's one of my favorite things to do. I'm going to show you two ways that you can animate your text in so that you can change easily. Let's get started. Way number one. I'm just going to open up my text. I'm going to realize that this is far too big. Let's just say lesson one on. Let's get text down again. Remember, you can type however you want, wherever you want. All I'm showing you is how you can use these things again. Again, sort of thing. All right. So you could say last someone here or we could have it. How we did where it was on the left. Here's the thing. If you wanted to be consistent, then I would have the paragraph. If it's in the middle, I would align the paragraph to the middle on what that means is when you tight it grows from the middle, like this, right? So as you can see, the text is too close together. So I'm just gonna go over to this and I'm gonna bring the text part a little bit on. If we wanted the text on the left, I would align the taste that left on them, bringing in a little bit here so that when I type, if I make a new slide, it stays in the middle like this. All right, so I kind of liked it in the middle when I was looking at then. So I'm gonna go paragraph, middle, align. Middle, middle on. I'm gonna call this lesson one, uh and we can just say I don't remember what lesson one waas how to be amazing. Let's just put Let's just put that All right. So you can change the tax, however you want the typography. I'm actually going to I think I might have the title in bold, and then we could have the title of it bigger. And then we could have thesis up headline a little bit smaller, maybe. No, actually, you know what? I kind of liked it like this. So let's just say we've got lesson one. How to be amazing. I'm going to show you two ways that you can animate your tax. So the first way you might already know this first of all, we want to make sure that the screen is filled. I don't really want the tax to be anime. And when this gray box isn't here, so I'm gonna hold Hold on. Cut the layer, Teoh, where the graves already filled. I'm probably going to remove that hyphen and then I'm gonna drop down the tax I'm gonna go to animate on. I'm going to change the position on. What we're gonna do is we're going to press control shift and and and it's gonna draw a mask and then we're gonna bring the position down in the animator. Let's have a look. What's going on here to make sure everything is selected? Let's delete this enemy. Not sure what happened there. Let's go back to position on. There we go. And then let's dropped on the Marines selector on What we do is we go to the start eso the positions down south in the way of the mask we hit. Start, Let's go to Let's go 10 2030 frames across, which is about a second on. We'll just bring this range selector up so you can see There we go. So the rain selector just increases. So what it's saying is saying the positions down on the position is down 100% from the start position, but nor percent of it is in its original position. So as this goes up, letter by letter is creeping up on. If you want to change this, you can go down to advance. You can have this by words. That looks pretty good. I kind of liked latter's. So there we go on. You can change the easiness on these as well. You could go after nine if you wanted to make smoother, or you could drag the um, you drag the handles either way, if you want it toe, have a different effect. And then when we get to about four seconds less, hit the start key from again and then we'll go one second in 25 on. We can drag this back out and we'll get this animation on. I think I kind of want this to be finishing strong, so I might just have it just a little bit long, just a little bit shorter. So maybe a couple of friends you can play around with this. You can have this finish wherever you want. And I think I wanted to speed up. See, at the moment, it's just like this. I want it. That looks a bit awkward. So maybe when the animation is dropping down here, we could have it However you want, you get the gist. You can play around with this. How do you like Andi? I'm gonna delete this anyway, because that's not how I want to animate. I want to show you something else. So let's delete the mask. So here's a cool thing you can do as well. I really like this technique where it looks like a line is coming in on bring them the text in. So what we're gonna do is just create a line festival. I'm just gonna get my pen tool, create a line here. We don't want any feel. So I'm gonna click Phil onto like that and put the stroke toe like six. Maybe like this on a line this horizontally, but not vertically. So what we could do is this line. Essentially, what we're gonna do is we're gonna hit position, we're going to keep her in this position, and we want it to look like it's bringing these letters in. All right, So? So the way we do this is we take above this line, we draw another box that's going to be paired to the line. So I'm gonna we actually want to fill on this box on no stroke. Maybe you want to change a different color as well, so we can make sure we know which is which. So let's draw a box, Andi. Let's drag it so that it's it doesn't really matter is on a song is it's the same size or bigger than text and it's on the line now. What we're gonna do is we are going to bring the text below this box, click on the tax and then come down to track matte down here and make the Alfa Matt that new shape. We could even rename this shape if we want a mask or Matt or whatever, and then all we need to do if we bring the shape plates atop we rename the shape line I want to do is pick. Quit the mask to the line on. Now, if you have a look, if we use the position, it's gonna keep her in this in so we could go two freight to two seconds in. Let's go back to one second and bring this off the screen. Then I'm going to hit my key frames. I'm bringing them over. There we go. So we've got. And then we'll make another key frame Mango to turn seconds and just take it all the way off the screen. And we could even round this up. There you go, and then we go, That that's pretty much it. We've got the transition. The transition comes in and out on literally. You could make. You can animate attacks. However, you want the shape however you want. And here's how you can use it in another com so you can keep this this layout like this less rename this to transition. I know which we changed it to, made no attempt changed about transition, which change back to transition. So when we pull it into a composition into a new project, it's just gonna make more sense. So what we can do here is if we click transition, so transitions selected and then we go to file dependencies and collect files, we're going to click, um, save yes, a safe the project for selected comes reduced project reveal collected project in Explorer when finished on. If we go here, I'm just gonna bring us down. Just, you know, Donna, what's going on on the side? So let's call this one transition project template. Something like this. Now that we've reduced the project on my other screen, you can see here that we've got the title transition. So what I'm gonna do is I'll open up a new project on a new composition. Make this one. You know, make this 2020 seconds. Maybe on just so we've got this clip flying over the sea. So what going to do is go into my I'm gonna grab my title transition project. I'm going to drag it in like this and just drag in my title transition project in and you can see a strike the project files in. So it's actually drive. Maybe it was the way I got a exported it. It's dragged background in transition like this. Let's just delete background there. So you can see now we can just drag this in, and then later on, if we duplicate this, we wanted to call this lesson to how to be amazing. A uh you can see. Okay, so this is the issue. Um, the transition because of the text in the transition is if you change it at this level, if you duplicate the composition in the timeline, it's going to change in both. So my bad. But it's good that I showed you this address. Delete the 2nd 1 If we don't. If we duplicate transition at its heart transition to now, we should be able to change this to lessen too. How to be amazing. A had to be amazing. And then if we go back to a competition and composition, you can see we've got that Someone had to be amazing. It goes on and then you've got a lesson too how to be amazing. And then remember earlier I said, if you file export at to render queue when you've just got the transition, if you rendered like this as ah and before it's just going to go If it was just rgb you're just gonna get but a black box here, right? But I'll show you what happens. I ran did these out earlier, um, with RGB on Alfa. So I'll show you how to do it. So I suppose you were in here and you want a movie file. If there wasn't taxed that you're going to change. If you just wanted the MP full file, then we can actually, we could actually drag the MP four file in, so I'll show you just one. I've got one here. Transition one. So you could do that on all you go. Do change the clip here. So you just swapped the clip out in the middle of the transition. But obviously doing it this way as a MP four file, you can't change the text or anything because it's rendered Andi to do that again. So you would be in transition in here, file export, add to render queue and then go down to los less. And you want to change this to, well, a V ice Fine. But it's really probably take up like 100 megabytes. Quick time will take up nothing. And you got rgb an Alfa on. That means this is basically going to render transparent. So that's it, guys, I hope you've enjoyed their short course. Hope you've learned something. Leave a comment. Show your projects down below if you haven't during the group already, there's a pdf with links to the group in a password lows course stuff going on there. And I intend to just keep pumping out content based on what you want more off. So just let me know on thanks again for joining in. I'll see you next time.
