1. Introduction and Supplies You Will Need: A Hi, friends. How are you? I hope you're having a great day today. I'm excited about sharing this project with you. This is a drawing and watercolor painting project that I designed, especially for kids. Students do not have to have any drawing or painting experience at all to be successful with this project. I will guide students step by step through all the steps that they need to take. Today we are going to be creating a rainbow with some clouds. I hope that you have a lot of fun with this project. Let's get started. Let's talk about the supplies and the materials that you will need for this project. The first thing that you'll need is a sheet of watercolor paper. You will need a set of watercolor paints and a paintbrush. You will also need a cup or a bowl with clean water and a black oil pastel or crayon and a paper towel. So go ahead and gather all of those supplies and materials, and I'll see you back here in the next video. 2. Step 1: Draw a Rainbow Swirly Cloud Design: I in this step, we are going to draw our cloud and rainbow design. So let's get started. The first thing that you're going to do is pick up your black oil pastel or crayon. We're going to go pretty close to the bottom of our sheet of paper, but not all the way down a few inches from the bottom. That would be several centimeters. What we're going to do is we're going to make two lines. We're going to make a line approximately right here and then another line coming from this side. About that long. This is going to be the bottom of each of our clouds. So let's make the top part of our cloud. I'm going to show you a way that I like to make clouds. So we start with a curve line and go into a swirl. And then adding to this, we're going to make another curve line going into a swirl. And then another curve line going into a swirl until you hit this part of our line down here at the bottom. So another line going into a swirl. There's one cloud. All right. Now we're going to do the same thing on this side. Let's start over here. So curve line going into a swirl. Curve line going into a swirl, another curve line going into a swirl, and then the last line going into a swirl. Alright, now that we have our two Clouds, let's create our rainbow. So we're going to start here on the end of our cloud, and we're going to end here on this side, on the other cloud. So we're going from the left to the right, and we're going to make our rainbow. We're going to make our rainbow go way up and then come way down. Okay. Let me show you what I mean. So we start about right here. We go way up. Come around. And then we come down. Alright, so this is the red portion of our rainbow. Now, pretty close to this portion of our rainbow, let's make another arch. So go slowly carefully so you do your best work. Come down and then touch this cloud here on the right. And then we're going to do the same thing. As you can see, our arches are getting smaller and smaller. So I'm going to stop there. Let's see. We have red, orange, yellow, green, blue, and I have one more to make for the violet. I come up, and then I come back down. If you don't have room for all of these curve lines, that's okay. You can stop. You don't have to have all of the colors on the rainbow. Alright, I just happen to be able to fit all of my curve lines so I can put all of my colors there. If you'd like to add some water drops down here at the bottom, you can do that. I think I'll do that. So that's just a teardrop shape. All right. So when we come back, what we're going to do is we're going to start painting our design. 3. Step 2: Paint the Rainbow: Okay. In this step, we are going to paint our rainbow and Cloud design. So let's get started. So what we're going to do first is we are going to add some water to our rainbow colors. So let's add a drop of water to our red, our orange, our yellow, our green, our blue, and our violet. I'm also adding a drop of water to this color of blue, as well, because I'm going to paint the sky this color. You may or may not have the same exact paint set that I do, so just use what you have available and work with what you have. Now that our paints are softening up, let's turn our attention to our design. So here we have our rainbow. You may or may not have space for all of the colors. Just paint as much as you can. So, for example, if you only have four stripes, then you would use red, orange, yellow and green. Okay? I happen to be able to fit all of my stripes onto my rainbow, so I'm going to use all of the colors. Alright? I'm going to start with the red. And I'm just going to start painting that outside stripe, that outside part of my rainbow. I'm trying to stay inside of those lines, but if I go outside of the line a little bit, that's okay. No problem. That happens a lot when you're using watercolor paints. Alrighty, I'm going to rinse that red out of my brush, and I'm going to move on to the colors orange and then yellow, and then green, and then blue, and then violet. Alright, friends, I'm finished painting my rainbow. Now I'm going to move down here to my water drops, my raindrops going to paint those blue. And as you can see, I'm choosing to leave my clouds white because I want to have white clouds. Already, when we come back in the next step, we are going to paint the background. 4. Step 3: Paint the Background: In this step, we are going to paint the background. So let's get started. I'm going to choose the color blue to paint my background. You can choose the color that you like. I'm going to start by painting up here in the left hand corner to make sure that I like that color, which I do. Oh, righty friends, I'm finished painting my design. I'm really happy with the way that it turned out. I hope that you had a lot of fun with this project. I will see you next time.
