1. Introduction and Supplies You Will Need: Hi, friends. How are you? I hope you're having a great day today. I'm excited about sharing this project with you. This is a drawing and watercolor painting project that I designed, especially for kids. Students do not need to have any drawing or painting experience at all to be successful with this project. I will guide students step by step through all the steps that they need to take. Today, we are going to be creating this cute little Easter chick inside of an Easter egg. I hope that you have a lot of fun with this project. Let's get started. Let's talk about the supplies and the materials that you will need for this project. The first thing that you'll need is a sheet of watercolor paper. You will need a set of watercolor paints and a paintbrush. You will also need a cup or a bowl with some clean water and a set of oil pastels or a set of crayons and a paper towel. So go ahead and gather all of those supplies and materials, and I'll see you back here in the next video. 2. Step 1: Draw an Easter Chick Design: I in this step, we are going to draw our Easter chick design. So let's get started. So we're going to create our half egg down here and we're going to create our Easter chick up here at the top. Let's start by creating our egg down here at the bottom. Choose one color that you'd like to make your egg out of and your chick. I'm going to choose this color orange. It's a light orange. If you have a different color that you'd like to use, go ahead and use that. We're going to start in the middle. The middle of my piece of paper is about right here in the center, and we're going to make a letter U that comes down and then comes back up. This is going to be the bottom of our egg. Now let's make some zigzag lines. So here's the half of our egg, and we're going to make our chick up here. So we're going to make the top of the head of the chick right here. It's not going to be touching this egg. So we're going to start about right here, come up with a curve line. So we want the top of our chick's head to come about this far down. Now let's make the top of the wing for our chick. So it's going to be a curve line and a curve line. And then what we're going to do is we're going to attach this curve line to this egg, right? And then the same thing on this side. So what we're going to do is come down, come over, come down, come over, and come down. Okay, let's do the same thing on this side. Come down. Come over, come down, come over, and then touch that egg. Alrighty. So now we have our egg, and we have our chick. If you'd like to add a bow or a little hat or something else at the top, you can go ahead and do that. I think I'm going to add some hair at the top of the hat of my chick. Alright. Now what we're going to do is put that oil pastel or crayon away, and what we're going to do next is we are going to get the color black out, and we're going to make some eyes right here. My eyes are going to be most closed, smiling eyes like this. But you can make any type of eye that you'd like. You can make an open eye or a closed eye. It's completely up to you. Then you can put that away and you can pick up an orange or a yellow or a red, and we're going to make the little bill. So let me show you how we're going to make the bill. We're going to start right here, come up and then come down, and then do the same thing down below. And then what we're going to do is we're going to make a line coming from this end to this end, just like that. Now, if you'd like to make some cheeks here, you can go ahead and do that with any color. I think I'm going to use the color pink. So I'm going to make two circles there for those pink cheeks. And then I didn't do one thing that I should have done before, and that is I'm going to add those little nostrils like that. Cute. Okay. Alright. Now what we're going to do is we're going to move down here to the egg, and we're going to create a pattern. A pattern is something that repeats itself, okay? So we're just going to make patterns, starting at the top, coming down. You can make circles or hearts or lines. You can make different types of lines, wavy lines, zigzag lines, it's completely up to you. I think what I'm going to do is I'm going to start with different colors, and you can do that as well if you'd like. So I'm going to start out with a curve line here with this purple and then another curve line. Then I'm going to switch colors, and I think I'm going to add some blue circles inside of here. And remember, yours might be completely different from mine, and that's a good thing. We want your artwork to look like your artwork. Now, I think I'll use my green, and I will create some hearts here with my green. And then I'm going to just keep moving down and creating more patterns down here at the bottom. Alright, I'm finished adding my patterns to my Easter egg. And what we're going to do now is we are going to add some designs to the background. So when I think about Easter, I think about spring. So I'm going to add some flowers to my background, okay? And you can do the same if you'd like. You can think about the different flowers that you see in the springtime. I think I'm going to maybe make some daisies because I like that type of a flower. But you can choose something different. You can choose some hearts or some swirls. Just go ahead and create something to fill in this space in the background. I think I'm going to start out with some yellow circles. And then I'm going to add some orange petals. If I go off my piece of paper, that's okay. Now, I think I'm going to add some green leaves. Alright, take a look at your design. If there's anything else that you'd like to add, you can go ahead and do that. For example, if you'd like to add some circles to fill in the rest of the space or some hearts, you can go ahead and do that. It's completely up to you. I think I'm going to leave my artwork as is. And when we come back, we will start painting our design. 3. Step 2: Paint the Design: In this step, we are going to paint our design. So let's get started. The first thing that we're going to do is we are going to add a drop or two of water into each of our pans of paint. And what this will do is it will soften up our paint a little bit so that it is easier for us to use. So I do encourage my students to take that step because it really does help. Now that our paints are softening up, let's turn our attention to our design. So here we have our chick popping out of an Easter egg. And what we're going to focus on painting right now in this step is the chick and the egg, and we're going to wait to paint the background and the flowers later in the next step, okay? So I encourage you to paint a lot of different colors on this egg because we love easter eggs that are nice and bright and colorful. I'm going to start by painting my chick yellow. And I want my chick to be a really bright yellow. So I'm going to add a lot of paint and just a little bit of water because I want the colour, the paint color to be very, very strong. So if you want a strong color, then you use more paint and less water. And if you like a more soft color, then you will use more water and less paint. Alright, so now I'm finished painting the chick. And what I'm going to do next is I'm going to paint the cheeks pink and the bill orange. And then I'm going to use different colors to paint this design down here on my Easter egg. Oh. Alright, friends, I'm finished painting the chick and the details on the chick. For example, I painted these cheeks pink and the bill orange. And then I painted this Easter egg all kinds of different colours. It took me quite a bit of time, but I'm happy with the way that it turned out. When we come back, we will start painting the background. 4. Step 3: Paint the Background: In this step, we are going to paint the background. So let's get started. We're first going to focus on the little details that you have. So I have these flowers and the leaves. I'm going to focus on that first. And then after I finish painting my flowers and my leaves, then I'm going to go ahead and paint these spaces between the flowers and the leaves, okay? So if you chose, for example, to draw hearts, then you'll be painting your hearts first. So I'm going to paint my flowers pink and maybe orange. And I like them to be pretty light. So I'm going to go ahead and do that. And then after I'm finished painting my flowers, I think I'm going to go ahead and paint my leaves green. And then I might even paint my background green or blue. I haven't decided yet. So I'm going to go ahead and work on that. Alright, friends, I'm finished painting my design. I hope that you had a lot of fun with this project. I will see you next time. And
