1. Introduction and Supplies You Will Need: Hi friends, how are you? I hope you're having a great day today. I'm excited about sharing this lesson with you. This is a drawing and watercolor painting project that I designed, especially for kids. You do not need to have any drawing or painting experience at all to be successful with this project. I will take you step-by-step through all the steps that you need to take. Today, we are going to be drawing and painting this cute little bear with a hat standing in the snow. Let's go over the supplies and materials that you will need for this project. The first thing that you'll need is a piece of watercolor paper. You will need some watercolor paint. You will need a paintbrush and some clean water in a bowl or a cup. You will need a permanent marker and a paper towel. You will need some white paint, some white tempera paint, or acrylic, or even post or pink will work. You'll need something to put your paint on. So you can use a palette. Any type of palette will do. I use a paper plate. So go ahead and gather all of those supplies and materials. And I'll see you back here in the next video. 2. Step 1: Draw the Design: In this step, we are going to draw our cute little Christmas spare. So let's get started. The first thing that we're going to do is we're going to take the cap off of our marker, put it on the back so it doesn't get lost. And we're going to find the middle of our piece of paper. The middle of my piece of paper is right here. What I'm going to do is I'm going to move up a little bit from the middle. And then I'm going to make a nice straight line. Notice that my line is not touching the edges. It's just right in the middle. The next step after we make our line right here is we're going to make a curved line coming up for our little bears hat. So let's go ahead and do that. We're going to come up and we're going to go over and then come back down just a little bit. So it's like a really wide upside-down letter U. Now we're going to come to this point of the line and we're going to make another curve line coming up. And then meeting that first line, like that might not look exactly like mine and that is, okay. Now let's put a little palm, palm at the end of our hat. And then we're going to put a little bit of a line right here. And that's going to give a little bit of detail to our Bears hat. So it almost looks like a little Santa hat right? Now we're going to come down here and we're going to make our Bears head. So let's go ahead and do that. We're going to start here at the corner and end up here at this corner. We're going to just make a wide you like that. Now let's put a little bit of detail inside of this shape right here for his head, we're going to make a curve line that's closer to the bottom and the top. And then write attached to this line, we're going to make a triangle like this. If your shape is a little bit different from mine, that's okay. I'm going to make a little circle there for a shine mark. And then I'm going to fill the rest of that in the shape in with some black marker for his nose. Alright, now I'm going to make some eyes, some circle or oval eyes with a little shine mark at the top, the reflection mark, if you'd like to make some different types of eyes, go ahead and do that. Let's make our eyes approximately the same size. There we go. Alright, the next thing we're going to do is we're going to make a little smile coming down from the nose. And I think I'm going to add a few little dots for some little whiskers. You don't have to do that part, but you can if you'd like. Now we're going to come down here to the bottom of our piece of paper. And we're going to make his body, his body is going to be pretty small compared to his head. We will have the letter J, backwards J. And forwards JVs are going to be His hands and arms. Then we're going to come up a little bit and make a little bit of a tummy. Then we're going to come down here and make his legs and his feet. So we're just going to come out, back in, come out, come back in, and then meet up right here in the middle. Let's put a little bit of detail on his tummy. You can make an oval that I'll just give a little bit more interest to our drawing. Now we need to make some ears. I forgot about the ears. Can you believe it? We want to make sure that our little teddy bear can here. So let's give him some little ears. Teddy bears don't have really behaviors. Their ears are a little bit smaller. Perfect. Okay. Remember yours might not look exactly like mine and that's actually a really good thing. So the next step is we're going to make some snow. So I'm just going to make some snow jump over his body, come out the other side. I don't want it to be perfectly straight line because it is snow. Alright, When we come back in the next step, we will start watercolor painting. 3. Step 2: Paint the Design: In this step, we are going to apply some watercolor paints to our drawing. So let's get started. The first thing that we're going to do is we're going to take a drop of water and we're going to put a drop of water into each pan of paint. And what this will do is it will soften up the paints just a little bit so that they are more easily used. We can use them more easily. Take a moment to do that. Now let's turn our attention to our bear. So what we're going to do on our bear is we're going to paint the bear and the half first and then the background. And we're going to leave this part of our drawing white because this is going to be the snow. When you're creating your background, you can paint your background whatever color you'd like. Just keep in mind that we will be adding some white snowflakes to it. So you might want to use a little bit of a darker color or a green, or maybe an orange or a blue or purple, something like that. But it's completely up to you. So I am going to choose to make my Bear Brown, and I'm going to make some brown on my palette right here in one of my Wells. I'm going to take some water and then I'm going to add some brown paint because I want to make sure that it's not too dark. I really want to be able to see the features of my teddy bear, the futures, our eyes and the nose, and the mouth. So I want to make sure that it's not too dark. So what I'm going to do is I'm going to go ahead and paint my design, including the background. And I will speed up this video and it'll go pretty quickly. But I am taking my time for this project. I am going to try to stay in the lines spectra as I can if I go a little bit out of the lines, no problem, It's going to be okay. Notice that I am not painting this part of my bear and this part because I'm going to add a little bit more water to my brown to make it a little bit lighter. Remember when you add more water to paint, it lightens up the color. And when you add more paint, it darkens the color. So I am going to lighten up my brown so that it's barely there Brown. Let me show you what I mean. Finish up this bear here. I have just enough paint. So I'm going to add more water to this. It's pretty light. And then I'm going to add it there. You can barely see it, but it is a little bit brown. Because I want there to be a color difference between this part of my bear in this part of my bear. That's why I'm adding a lot more water. Okay, there we go. So now I'm going to keep this part white, this part white. And I'm going to paint the hat of my cute bear red. And I'll be back in just a minute. Alrighty friends. I'm back and I'm really happy with the way that my painting looks so far. I'm not quite done yet, but it reminds me the background kinda reminds me of the northern lights. So what we're going to do is we're going to allow our background completely dry before we add our snowflakes. So go ahead and let your background dry. And I'll see you back here in the next video. 4. Step 3: Paint Snowflakes: In this step, we are going to add some snowflakes to our background. So let's get started. We're going to be using this type of paint. And the reason why is because if we used our white watercolor paints, it might not show up. So we want to make sure that we use either this type of paint, which is called tempera paint, or an acrylic paint or a poster paint. It's a thicker paint. As you will find out. I have just a little tiny bit of this tempera paint. I don't know if you can see this, but it's smaller than a dime. We do not need that much. What you're going to do is with your pinky finger, you're going to just get a tiny amount of paint onto your pinky finger. And you're going to start placing some very small snowflakes on your piece of paper. We're not going to go around and around like this. We're just going to do a little touch with our pinky. And then we are going to place that little bit of paint onto our piece of paper. Remember, snowflakes are pretty small. They're not really huge. So just be super careful, go very slowly and carefully. So you do your best work. Spread out those snowflakes. And remember sometimes people make snowflakes in a straight line like this, going down and align. But if you look at snowflakes as they're falling, they don't really fall down in a straight line. They're more scattered around like this. So just keep going until you finish up the space that you want to finish up. And then take a look at your piece of paper if there's anything else that you'd like to add, go ahead and do that. After you're finished, make sure that you put your palate down and you clean off your pinky finger completely with your paper towel. That's really important. And you don't get it everywhere. You don't get it on your desk or your table, or your clothes, especially. It's really, really important. You might have a tiny bit left on your hand. That's okay. It's not going to hurt you. Alrighty friends. So there we go. I hope that you had fun with this lesson. I will see you next time.
