1. Introduction and Supplies You Will Need: Hi friends, How are you? I hope you're having
a great day today. I'm excited about sharing
this project with you. This is a drawing and
watercolor painting project that was designed
especially for Kids. Students do not need to have any drawing or painting
experience at all. To be successful
with this project. I will guide students
step-by-step through the entire creative process so they will feel
comfortable at all times. I'm excited about sharing
this project with you. Let's get started. Let's talk about
the supplies and materials that you will
need for this project. The first thing
that you'll need is a sheet of watercolor paper. You will need a set of watercolor paints
and a paintbrush. You will also need a cup or
a bowl with clean water. You will need a set of crayons
or a set of oil pastels. Either one will work fine and you will need a paper towel. So go ahead and gather all of those supplies and materials, and I'll see you back
here in the next video.
2. Step 1: Draw a Bird in a Birdhouse: In this step we are going
to draw our design. So let's get started. What we're going to do first
is we're going to choose our brown crayon or
our brown Oil Pastel. A darker brown might work best if you have it
available to you. So I'm going to choose a brown Oil Pastel because I'm going to
be using oil pastels. Let's go near the top
of our piece of paper. Not to the tippy top, but pretty close to the top. And what we're going to
do is we're going to make a branch going from this side of our piece
of paper to this side. And when we get close to this
side of our piece of paper, we are going to open up the
branch into two branches. So let me show you what I mean. We're going to start about
right here and make a line. It's not going to
be super straight because branches are
not really that street. We're going to go
up a little bit towards the end of our line. And we're going to go all the way to the edge of
our piece of paper. We're going to do
the same thing, come down just a little bit, not super straight line. And then we're going to
come down on this line. These are going to offshoot. This branch right
here is going to offshoot into these
two branches. Now we're going to make
a sideways V like this. And as you can see, that will turn our one
branch into two branches. Alright? Now that we have our branch, what we're going to do
is we're going to make a string coming down
wherever you want. I'm going to put my
string in the center. So I'm going to make
a line like this. It's not going to be super straight because it's a string. Then I'm going to
double that up. Then this is where we're
going to put our Birdhouse. So that's what we're
going to make right now. From this string, the
bottom of the string, we're going to make
a slanted line and another slanted line
coming out the other side. Then what we're going
to do is we're going to come a little bit down from that line and we're
going to make another slanted line and
another slant and light. Remember, it doesn't
have to be perfect. Now we're going to close with
a small line on each side. So we're going to be connecting
this line to this line, this line to this line
with two smaller lines. Now we're going to make, this is the roof
of our Birdhouse. And now we're going to make the bottom part
of our Birdhouse, the actual house part. Okay. We're going to have a
slightly slanted line. We're going to come a
little bit and from the end of that line and make a slightly
slanted line, come down. And the same thing
on the other side. And then we're going to close up this shape at the bottom
with a straight line. Now let's make a
circle right here. This is the place
where the birds can actually get into the Birdhouse. Now what we're going to do
is make a small stick here because I know
that birds like to stand on the little stick to get into the little
circle into the house. Now that we've done that, we're going to put
a few little lines here and this will decorate. Give a little bit of
detail to the Birdhouse. If there's something else that you'd like to put on there, you can do that as well. Let me add one more there. What you need to do is just
look at your Birdhouse and then decide if there's anything else that you'd like
to put in there. Alright, the next
thing that we're going to do is we're going
to put our brown away and we're going to
choose another color. You can choose whatever
color you would like. So we're going to
choose the color for the leaves up here
on the branch. I'm going to choose
the color green. I like this shade of green. It's a really bright green. And what we're going to
do all along the branch, the top part of the branch, and on the lower part
of the branch is we're going to make some leaves. You can make any shape
leaves that you'd like. And we're going to just make some curved lines or swirly lines or whatever
you'd like to do. This is the type of leaf
that I like to make. I'm going to do. That's a funny leaf, right? Remember with Art, there
are really no mistakes. So you can make whatever
you'd like as far as Leaves go. I'm going to pull
a line in there. A little bit more
detail. Perfect. I'm going to put that away. Then. What we're going
to do now is we're going to create flowers down
here at the bottom. Now just imagine that we're going to have
flowers coming up from the bottom of
our piece of paper. And if they're not going to
be touching the Birdhouse, but we are going to
make them around the Birdhouse.
Alright, sounds good. You can make your flowers go as high as you'd like
on your piece of paper. You're going to go just
in this area right here. Alright, because I'd like to see a little bit
of sky right here. So I think I'm going to
choose the color orange. And you can choose whatever color you'd
like for these flowers. Think about the flower
that you'd like to make. I'm going to make it easy. And I'm going to show
you how to make it easy. Going to start out
with a circle. So I'm going to make
some circles actually, they're pretty big all
around my Birdhouse. If there's a different type of a flower that you'd
like to make. You can go ahead and do that. Now that I have my
round orange circles, I'm going to I'm going
to maybe choose. This is like a darker
orange, almost read. I think I'm going to choose that for the paddles, for my daisies. Sometimes I'll choose
five or six petals depending on what fits. Did you see how I went to this line right here and
then I jumped over and then I started my line back
over here because this petal is behind
the Birdhouse. Did the same thing on that
side. Did you see that? I'm not sure if you
can see the bottom, but my petals are going
off of the piece of paper. Here we go. Alright. If you'd like to add anything
else to your flowers, you can go ahead and do that. I think I'm going to add a swirl inside the center of my flowers, inside of the circle
of my disease. So a yellow swirl. If you'd like to fancy up
the petals a little bit, you can do that as well. It's completely up to you. Alright? Now what I'm going to
do is I'm going to add some leaves to my flowers. So I'm just going to add some
leaves in certain areas. They might be different
shapes and that's okay. Just do what you'd like. Fill in those spaces. Perfect. Alright, now let's create our Bird
and we're going to put our Bird right
here in this center. Your circle might be larger
or smaller than mind such as do the best that you can
for your little Bird. Choose a color that you'd
like to use for your Bird. I think I'm going to use red. And what we're going to do
is just make a small bird, just the head in this
space right here. So let me just make the
head of my bird like that. And then maybe I will make a
little beak with my yellow. And remember you could to
use the colors that you'd like going to color that in. And then maybe I'll make some eyes so my Bird
can be peeking out. Who those that are
big eyes, right? This Bird has really big eyes. Your eyes might be bigger
or smaller than mine. Mine just happen
to be pretty big. Keep in mind, when
you're using your black, you will get messy hands if
you choose to use black. So we can use your paper towel to get that Oil Pastel
off of your hands. If you don't get all of it off of your hands, that's okay. We'll pastels are
really, really soft, so they do leave behind a little bit
of oil on your hands. Alright, Now I'd
like you to take a look at your artwork,
at your drawing, and then decide if
there's anything else that you would like to
add to your artwork. So for example, if you have a space that you'd like to
fill up with something, you could go ahead and do that. Think about gardens. Think about nature. You might want to add a
lady bug or a butterfly. It's up to you. Just get creative with it. Alright, I'm happy with them way that my artwork
looks right now. So what I'm going to do is I
am going to stop right here. And when we come back, what we will do is
start painting. So I will see you back
here in the next video.
3. Step 2: Paint the Birdhouse Design: In this step, we
are going to add some watercolor
paints to our design. So let's get started. The first thing that
you'll want to do is add one or two drops of your
water to each pan of paint. And what that will do is it will soften up
your paint a little bit so that it is
easier for you to use. So I do encourage you
to take a moment to add one or two drops of water
into each pan of paint. Now, while those Paints
are softening up, Let's turn our attention
to our design. So here we have a
cute little Bird peeking out of a
Birdhouse in a garden. You get to choose the colors
that you'd like to use. Think about the garden and
the colors in the garden. And that will help you decide the colors you're going to use. I think I'm going to use
brown for my branch, green for my leaves. And I'm not sure yet on the
colors for the flowers. Sometimes when I'm painting, I have an idea, but I might change my
mind or I might pivot, and I might do something
totally different than what was in my
mind before I started. What I'm going to do is
I'm just going to start out with the colors that I know that I'm going to
use, which are brown. So what I'm going
to do is I'm going to take a little bit of brown
with a little bit of water, put it into one of my wells. Maybe the color brown
that I want to use. I want a little bit
lighter brown here, so I added more water. If you'd like a darker
color than you would use more paint than water. So you just have to
experiment a little bit, which is the funny
thing about doing Art. You get to experiment. Alright? So for the roof of my Birdhouse, I think I'm going to use brown. And then I think I'm going
to use a light purple. Light purple for my, this part of the house from
light Bird my Birdhouse. I'm getting some purple and putting it in one of my wells, adding a little bit of water. Then I'm going to
just start Painting. Keep in mind, when you are painting with
watercolor paints. Sometimes the Paints, the pink colors will
run into each other. They will mix and
they will flow. And that's actually
the really neat thing about painting with
watercolor paints. Sometimes you don't
have that much control. But that's what makes it phon. I'm almost finished
painting this Birdhouse. How it looks so far. And then what I'm going to
do is I'm going to paint this little stick and the
inside of the Birdhouse. And I want those to be a
little bit darker, purple. I'm going to paint that
a little bit darker, a little bit darker
than that. We go. Then the inside I
want darker too because it's going to be a little bit shadowy
in there, right? Maybe even a little bit
darker. There we go. That's nice. Right? So now I have my branch
and I have my Birdhouse. And what I'm going to do
now is I'm going to start painting the leaves
and the flowers. And then I'm going to wait until the last two, Paint My bird. So what I think I'll do is I
will speed up my painting. That way. You can watch me. And I will see back
here in just a minute. Alrighty friends. So I'm
finished painting my leaves, my flowers, my Birdhouse,
and my branch. And now I'm going
to paint my Bird, and I'm going to
paint my Bird Red. Alrighty friends. So now I'm finished
painting my branch, my leaves, buy flowers, my bird and my Birdhouse. And what we're going
to do in the next step is we are going to be
painting the background. So I will see you back
here in the next video.
4. Step 3: Paint the Background: In this step we are going
to paint our background. So let's get started. I'm going to choose to
paint my background blue, but you can choose any
colors that you'd like. I'm going to use two
different shades of blue. So I'm going to show you
the shades right now. I'm going to use this
shape right here. It's a lighter blue. I'm going to put
that into one of my wells and add some water. Then I am going to use
more turquoise blue, which is this blue right here. And I'm just going to trade
off between those two blues. And what I'm going to do is I'm going to start
at the top here. And I'm going to
work my way down. You don't have to start at
the top if you don't want to. If you'd like to
start somewhere else, you can go ahead and do that. Keep in mind, if
you want stronger, more vibrant colors, use
more paint and less water. With your watercolor paints. If you choose to
have a softer color, then you'll use more
water and less paint. I'm using quite a bit of
water with this blue. And you get to choose
what you'd like to do. Remember, this is your artwork, so you get to choose
what you'd like. I'm going to go ahead
and speed up the video. You can watch me and I will
be back in just a minute. Alrighty friends. I'm finished
painting the Background. I'm really happy with the way
that my artwork turned out. I hope that you had a lot
of Fun with this project. I had a lot of fan teaching you. I will see you next time.
