1. Introduction: Hello and welcome to my class, the Color of Courage. And this class, I
lead you through a creative are
journaling process that you can use
over and over again. Whenever you face a
challenging situation in your life or are dealing with a problem and you don't know quite what you do. This process helps
you get clarity and get some feelings
out and focus more on the possibilities that you have and shift your attention away from the problem or from the situation that
is bothering you. I want to introduce
myself briefly. My name is Christina and I'm
a German Mixed Media artist. And I live in when
osteitis and Argentina. And I am super passionate about Art Journaling,
Intentional Art Journaling, and about this
process that I will show you that is called cosmic Smash Booking and that I
use a lot in my own life in situations like the ones
that I have described before. So what is cosmic Smash Booking? Cosmic Smash Booking as Creative
Art Journaling process, Mixed Media Art
Journaling process. And it was developed by
a woman name's Quetta Z. And she talked Mixed
Media Art Journaling and also a lot of elements from
Intentional creativity. And she mix these
together to make it really easy and
accessible way to get through the backdoor
of your hard legs. She says, access to your
inner wisdom and your ability to solve your problems was
you already have within you, there are some rules to the cosmic Smash Booking
process and they always have to love when I say that because the first and most important
rule is there are no rules, which means you can do
absolutely anything you want you and your journal with your journal on your pages. You can rip them up, you can create it,
creating mass. You can do something
really pretty. But it's not about that, it's about the process. The second rule
is to keep going, which means that you will
work on a page or on a piece of Art until you feel that it's finished or at
least for a moment, that can take some time. There might also be heavy
feelings coming up. It can get very emotional and invitation as to keep going to not stop and leave a page that you think
that's unfinished. The third rule is
to have FUN and to embrace the process and
do it for yourself, not for anybody else. And the fourth rule, whenever you are in doubt, if you can do something, if it's right or if it's wrong or something,
there's no right or wrong. By the way, you
always go back to rule number one,
their own rules. This implies that
this class is for absolutely everyone who is dealing with a
challenging situation on wants to be able to
focus more on a solution or possibilities and to
do it in a creative way, you don't have to have
any creative experience. You don't need to be an artist. You can use this process regardless of that to
make it really easy. Another thing is the
materials you don't need. Fancy Art Materials. If you have some paper, any journal, and his sketchbook, if you have something to
write and some colors, these can be crayons, colored pencils,
watercolor, acrylic, whatever you like to work with and have available will work. On the other hand, if you
have fancy materials that you are hoarding or guarding
for the best opportunity, this is the one, take
all your supplies out and use them to your hearts content because that's
what they are for. Another thing I want
to say before we start everything I do and show
you as a suggestion. As I said, there are no rules so you can
totally go your own way. You can follow my stamps and
you can follow my process. You can do something very
similar to what I do, but you can totally go
your own way if you at any point feel no,
that's not for me. I want to do something
different than go do it. Also, this video has
a lot of time lapses. So I want to encourage
you whenever you find you need more
time for Journaling. You need more time to
put your colors on. You need more time to find
images of creating Images. Then pause the video and come
back later when you feel you are done with
the current step that we're N of the process. For me, the creation
of a page like the one that I will show
you takes one or 2 h, but these can be also stretched
over one or two days. So you can really
take your time with this page or any other
you might create with those process and keep going until you find it's finished. You can find a supply
list as well as a step-by-step description of the whole process in
the class resources, there's a PDF that
you can download. So whenever you want to go
through this process again, you can obviously
watch the class again, but you can also just
download the PDF and look at the steps if you want a
reminder and create from there. In the next video,
I will show you what we are creating or what I created for this class and
what the class project is. And I wish you a super happy and creative
time with this class. Happy Creating and see
you in the next video.
2. Class Project: Your class project for this
class is to create a page in your journal with
whatever you have at hand, whatever materials
you have available. This is the page that I
created for this class, the Color of Courage. The ideas also that
during the process you get valuable insights
about how to face your challenging situation
or a problem that you have and possible
steps to move forward. You will see what this page
is about while I created, I talk about it during the
other videos while I created. So you will see what this
means and you can also already see that this
consists of many layers. So there is writing
underneath, there's color, there's a portrait,
there's more writing, images that have a
certain meaning for me. And I talk about that
more during the class. I want to encourage you to create your own page and post
and the project section, whatever you feel
comfortable sharing, these can be work in process pictures or
your finished page. I would also love to hear what your experiences
where with this process. So you could possibly
write about things like what came up while
you where writing. What is something new that you discovered through this process? Or if you decided on a little next step yet
that you can take, or if you were able to see some new possibilities while
you were creating this page. I also want to mention
that as much as I would love to hear everything
about your process, those can also be very personal. So please only
share what you are comfortable sharing with others. Please don't feel pressure
to share something that you don't want to share that you'll
feel it's too personnel. Before we start creating, I want to show you briefly what supplies you can use
for creating this page. And then we dive
into the process. I wish you much FUN.
3. Supplies: Before we begin to
dive into the process. I will show you briefly some
materials I might be using, but I want to say beforehand, every kind of paper, even if you glue together
two sheets of printer paper, every kind of
writing utensil and every kind of art supplies
will work for this process. It really doesn't matter. Take what you have and do whatever comes
up for you with it. That being said, I will show
you some materials that I often use in my cosmic
smash book process. First, I have this junk
journal that I really love. And I will just look for a page that is not used
yet and work on that. Then I need for the writing
side writing utensils. Generally, I just pick
a ball point pen, but sometimes I write with
pencils or with color pencils. Also, I have used markers or
crayons or things like that, whatever you feel comfortable in the moment to write
with is okay. Then I mostly use
acrylics for painting. I just show you
these are the ones. I have they come in
these beautiful jars, and I just pick
the colors that I feel like using in the moment. I also use a lot of white gesso, so I have this really big jar. I often grab watercolors. I have different
sets of watercolors. And I incorporate
either oil pastels. These are the ones I have or
water soluble wax pastels, depending on the mood I'm in or maybe what effect I want to achieve
at a certain point. I have gold acrylics
that I often use for acts in the end and
maybe some mas. I also may be bringing in images from magazines
or collage elements. I don't know yet. Let's
see where this takes. Just gather to your supplies and follow the process
and trust the process. It really doesn't matter with what you create or
what you create. The important thing is that
you enjoy the process and that it may answer you some questions or shift your
energy, things like that. These are the important
points of the process. Gather some materials,
prepare your space, and let's dive right in.
4. Getting Present: Now that you know what
we're talking about, what we will be
creating in this class, and what it's for it
and what you need, and how set up your
creative space. I want to invite you to
take a little moment, take some deep breath with me, and get settled into this moment and prepare
ourselves to get creative. I went to invite you
to close your eyes. And maybe if you want to put
your hands when your heart. Just get Present,
focus on your breath, how it is entering your body, how it leaves your body, how it moves your body. Take a moment to feel places where your body
touches the chair, sitting on, your feet touch
the ground, gets present. I invite you to
focus a moment on everything that has been
going on in your day so far. I want you to take
a deep breath in. Hold it for a moment. And then with your breath going out of your body,
let everything go. That has happened so far and you'd second breaths. I want to invite you to
think a moment about everything that this
still life for you. What maybe wants to catch your attention and lead you into the future that's
not met yet here. Take a deep breath. Your best to let it. Once we invite you to
take a deep breath in and really present
in this moment. Listen to what you can hear. I can hear birds chirping. For example, in
this moment here, outside my house and my garden. Deep breaths for
the present moment. I want to invite you to feel again how you're
sitting in your chair, maybe how your back
touches a chair, your feet on the ground. Settling back into your body. When you're ready to
open your eyes again. And yeah, let's start creating
5. Journaling and Setting an Intention : Okay, let's dive into our Social CRM can find
page, a blank page. The great thing about
these journals is that the pages are
not really blank. And then grab my pen. And I have prepared some
questions to journal about. As a first step, I want to invite
you to think about a challenging situation that
you are currently facing. And the questions, are these, what are you worried or afraid of regarding the situation? What is your desired outcome? What is courageous step you can take to reach the
desired outcome, right? Anything that comes to
your mind and whenever you feel you get into fear, fear creeps up you
or your thing. I can do that. Ask yourself, can
I do with any way? Can I step through the fear? I will write about this myself. You can take your time and
you can write as much or as little as you want to
about these questions. I will tell you that
in a bit about what comes up for me afterwards. And just write whatever
comes to mind. When I don't know from
the bad where to start. I often start by reading
the questions that I then I write anything that comes
that pops into my mind. You can see I really right, almost allegedly, so
it doesn't matter. It looks will be
covered up anyway. It's just to get the
Thoughts flowing. And if you have difficult
feelings to get them out, to have a have a
place to express them Kim, I think I'm done with
writing for the moment. You can see I wrote a lot. I usually do that most
and most of my pages. And when I reached
the end of the page, I just go in all the
other directions. Oh, I forgot to say
in the beginning, when you write, try to write over the crease in the
middle of your journal. And then later, when we
go to create a page, try to have something
that crosses the crease in the
middle of your off your journal sheet and
always create over the whole page on both
sides at the same time. What came up for me? My challenging situation
at the moment. It's very personal, so I
will not go into details, but it's about around
communication, about setting boundaries, and about getting into
fear that paper. If I share my situation
and if I set boundaries, they may not love
me or they may not like me being afraid of
having hard conversations. And it keeps coming up
for over several pages. So I guess it's time
to face to have some conversations
that are maybe not so pleasant or
maybe they are now, there won't be that bad. I just fear that they will be. And when I have them,
maybe they're not. As a courageous step I can take to reached the desired
outcome that I have. Which is basically like having a good family live
where everyone feels scene, feels comfortable and that
we have FUN together. Or far that it's sometimes
necessary to have some conversations
and to be open and to listen to what
they have to say. A bit invitation for me is
to spark these conversations and be open to what the
others have to say. Because obviously
one of the fears that they say some things that I don't want to hear that they touch the
wounds that I have. I feel where I'm not
good enough as mother or a partner that these things
came up for the next step. Before we get into making
a mess or coloring this page is to write
a prayer over it. Prayer sounds very religious. It's not really bought that it's an invitation to
your muse, to God, to the universe, to
your subconscious, whatever you think is where
the wisdom comes from. You write a prayer. And in this entity inside or
outside yourself, however, you belief that to help
you on this journey, to help you discover things that you need to know and to get the arms
of that you seek. So it's very simple. You just grab some colors. I have some colored
pencils here or you can write with the same utensils. You wrote that I usually want to bring colors and and
you just write, please. Show me, teach me, guide me, me, and everything else that may come up that you feel you
need in order to get answers. You can also write
the same thing over and over again or several times. And I usually finished
with thank you. My name or my signature?
6. Creating a Background : Now the front part begins. Before I begin, I will
protect the pages here a bit. Before I actually
get to the Color. I feel just like knowing
domes, pieces of paper. I use a matte medium for this. As I said in the beginning, you don't have to do
every step that I check. Just go with what you
feel like doing. Mmo. Now, we've come into
the Color Palette. Finally, I want to
invite you to think about what color represents
courage for you today. So what color you feel drawn to? I will just start. It's not really color. Just leave it a bit of white, just so come back
with the Color. But later, I just apply, don't have to mix a
color with the pellet my from my big jar
directly to the page. For me, the color that came
up in this moment was purple, so I will some purple. And this can change. I mean, it's not that I always
pick the same colorful. If I happen to work
about the same theme, I'm not always picking
the same color. I I just grabbed what I feel drawn to and I don't even like
don't even think about it. Just grab what you
feel drawn to. And I'm totally perfect. Even if you create a mess, maybe that's what you
need in the moment, then you create a
mess and you can always add another layer. On top of that. Like courage to me today. When I thought
about what color I feel representing
courage for me today, I also remember this water
color green that I have. So I will add a bit of that. This is the moment where
you can really go all out, like scratching, splashing, spraying with the colors
that you feel drawn to, whatever you feel like doing, you can do bad. And create a total mess. Will see how much mess I
feel like creating today. Well, I do this. Just let my thoughts go
wherever they want to on, whenever I remember what I'm
creating about this theme, all the questions, in
this case, Courage. I ask myself, does this
page one to tell me something at this stage and maybe something comes up
and maybe it doesn't. That's okay. But I tried to come back to the questions
every now and then. Why am I create to see
if there's anything that comes up around that seems to be
MSE Background day. As you can see. When I do this, I often
close the page for a moment and then open it
again and see what comes up. Yes, it's a messy day. So for this, also, the invitation be courageous. It really doesn't matter
how it looks like you can create a total mess
and the total amount. And you can still find some answers and it makes something
beautiful if you want. But the page doesn't
have to be beautiful. As long as you have
FUN creating it. It's okay. I will let this
dry and then I come back
7. Creating Images and Adding Details - Part 1: Now that my background is dry, I would create something
on this page and I think I will
start with a phase. I often draw women
with crazy hair. And I think there's something
that I will do today too. And I will draw the
face in one line. Let's see how that kills. I usually start the eyebrow
and I'm going to the nose in the mouse. Control. Other eyebrow. I have prepared some color, my very dirty pellet store to put some color in. This is nice, for example, like it just was like all this. Just watch, watch her.
I will dip it that way. I grew up the paper towel and making these very,
very nice textures. So if you ever feel
like what would happen if I did this or that,
definitely try it. You don't like it,
you paint over it or do something collage
over it or whatever. Like, try everything
that comes up. Okay. I will leave this dry
and come back to you later.
8. Creating Images and Adding Details - Part 2: Now let this dry or it can
come back with another layer. I'm going a bit more
into some details now. I'm not really worried
about accuracy or that it looks super,
super realistic. The leopard stands for Courage. And when I first started this theme at the
beginning of the year, as my attention of the year, I found one and I
put it on the page without really knowing
what it meant. And I looked at our later. I tend to do it whenever animals or certain colors show up. Once I've created the page, I look up what these mean. I want to include
in her hair like a leopard print cinema
colors that I already have. Let's just put some random
dots of different sizes. So I said these are
just like the colors that I feel drawn
to at the moment. For the theme. I have created around
the same theme, Courage and red and magenta,
like really fierce. And I had a page. It was bright yellow and
orange and dark blue. So I guess the color that
I associate was Courage. Depends on my current mood and
what I'm reflecting about. Like, why do I want
to be courageous? In which area of my life? Let's say, I think I
need a bit more carnage. So the color that I feel that I associate with that can change. And I read yesterday
about the Color Purple. Let it combines the fears of the red and the
stability of blue. And I thought for more courage
in having conversations, having hard conversations that
really fitted quite well. And I tend to find that whatever I choose when I
read about the meaning, it's It's relevant. I find
something relevant. Not always everything that
I find it's relevant, but when I have animals showing up on my page or finding images
that I want to enqueue. When I read about the meaning
of the animals, flowers, or colors that are
insignificant on my page. Generally, I find some
useful information that relates to what I'm asking or
they intention that I set. And it gives me some insights
in what the page means, or what I make it me, or what it wants to tell me. Depending how you look at it. You can add as many
layers as you want to. Always find that
the more layers, the more interesting if gifts. Because as you can see here, you can still see the writing
from the very beginning. You can see the collage. You can see the
background. We created. It's like all their every
layer to the magic. Now there's always the
magic moment when you put the highlight on the is. I have always the
feeling that it really wakes a portrait that
I have some other. So I have this, I found this one. This is like my family. And that's why it
caught my attention. This would be me,
my husband or kids, the grandparents, and our dog. So I would love to
include this somewhere. Let's see, It could
stick out even a bit. I will put some writing on to remind myself
what this is about. Activation can be
some special Details. I often use gold, but you can also use glitter and neon colors, things like that. So this is done. And I see you in a moment
for some final thoughts.
9. Final Thoughts: Okay, here we are at
the end of our class. I really hope you enjoyed it. I really hope you
created something that help you in some
way to let go off some heavy feelings
or McBride you clarity on some next
steps or focus on possibilities that you
have to move forward in whatever challenging situation
you may find yourself in. As I said before, I
really want to see what you create it and hear
about your experiences. So if you want to please
go to the project section, upload some pictures and to tell me about
your experience, whatever you want
to share about it. You can also tag
me on Instagram. My Instagram handle
is bonfire Art. And you can also join my Facebook group or
go to my website. I already mentioned that there's
a PDF available that has all the process steps and it also has all my
contact information. I also want to encourage
you to please leave a review how you would
like this class, what you'll find enjoyable, and maybe what I could
do better next time. So this helps me tremendously. And then also, it is a way
for new students to find me. If this class has many reviews, it will be shown to more people
and that helps me to help other people hopefully
with this process also who may need it at contact me
if you have any questions, if you have any suggestions for new classes or
something like that, I'm all ways happy to help
open for suggestions. If you want to stay
connected with me. You can also go to my website and subscribe to a free mini course,
but I have there. That way you can enjoy
another if we class about another cosmic Smash
