Colorways and Marks

Another fun and educational project. I chose three colorways: cad yellow hue, raw sienna, burnt umber (three colors I rarely use); indigo, sap green, green apatite, olive green (my favorite); and cad yellow, indigo, and green apatite. (That green apatite draws me so much, but it sure loves to push others away.)

As I was creating these, I also took the opportunity to compare different papers I had on hand, to see how they reponded. I used Arches, Bee (from Walmart), Canson XL, and an old paper pad I "inherited" called Bienfang. I only had one sheet left, but it came in 2nd to Arches, with Canson LL almost tied. Bee is good for mixed media, but not for watercolor only.

I loved the process of making these, and will use this practice frequently, trying different marks and colorways.

Another awesome paint day.
