It was such a pleasure to paint these little guys!

There's one watercolor technique that is incredibly versatile—it can completely transform your artwork and sketches. This technique is essential if you want to paint portraits, and I’m confident you can master it! Once you do, a whole new watercolor world will open up for you.

When I first started painting, my portraits looked very different because I only used the classic dry paper watercolor technique. For example, the dog in this painting was done on dry paper, while the cat was created using a technique from the Duckling class. This method works like magic for achieving realistic pet portraits!

The lessons in the "Hair & Fur Mastery" class are the perfect first step towards portrait painting. After many requests, I’m currently working on a new class! In this class, with exercises and studies, you’ll paint your own realistic portrait with smooth skin and learn many tips and tricks for an easier, more successful process.

When I began my portrait journey, I didn’t use the right techniques to capture the smoothness of skin or the softness of hair—I painted everything on dry paper. My early portraits look quite different from what I create now!
