1. WELCOME!: Hey, a lot of people saying they don't know how
to use Procreate. There are so many cool features
that I hit in the way. But once you learn
how to use it, procreate becomes
very intuitive and completely elevates how
you create digital art. My name is Victor Amoco and I am originally a
traditional medium. Artists made me work with
pastels and graphite. So at first I was
very intimidated to learn a new software
like Procreate, but I am so glad
that I did because Procreate opened up a whole
lot of possibilities. I can now create art to
wherever and whenever I want. And I can make cool things like stickers, bookmarks,
and animations. The possibilities are endless. You can create
expressive sketches and detailed portraits using a
variety of different tools. It is essentially an
entire art studio located on a single tablet
so you can take anywhere. This is a comprehensive class, so we will take a look at all the different
features of Procreate. This class is divided
into three parts. In part one, we will start with the overview and how
Procreate works. I will show you all
the tips and tricks and the hidden
features of Procreate. In part two, we will create multiple simple
illustrations so you can experiment with all the
cool Procreate features we've discovered
together in this class, which also gives you
the opportunity to add cool autumnal illustrations
to your portfolio. Finally, in the third part, we will learn many
different things. We can do it by illustrations. We will learn how
to make stickers, bookmarks, and even
create animations. This class is recommended
for beginners. However, if you are a more
experienced procreate artists, I am sure this
class will feature some interesting tips and tricks that you
haven't seen yet. So I welcome artists
at all levels. Also as a bonus, I have provided all the pallets we used for the illustrations. Don't forget to follow
me on Instagram where I post all of my Skillshare
class updates. And you will see a
lot of my artwork there to also follow me here on Skillshare to receive a notification as soon
as I launch a new class. Or when I have a
big announcement to share with my students, I am truly thrilled to
present this class to you. I hope you find it
interesting and enjoyable. So grab your iPad, open, Procreate, and let's
dive straight in.
2. PART 1: Procreate Overview : Hi artists and
welcome to the class. So we will start
by just looking at Procreate and getting
the general overview. So when you go into Procreate, this is the page you see. You see all of the
artworks you have created. And to create a new artwork, you pick up your pencil
and you click on this plus on the top
right corner over here. And you can choose a variety
of different canvas sizes. But the one I usually
use is a screen size. That's the size we're working
on today in this class. Let's start by looking at
the buttons over here. So if you click on gallery, you just go back
to the main menu with all of your
previous outlooks. So this is the outlook
we have just started. Then this wrench button here. All it does is you
can add things so you can cut copy,
paste, copy canvas. You can insert your files
and so your photos, if you are working from a photo, you click on Insert a photo and then you choose the photo
you like to select. Then on Canvas, you can turn on a whole
bunch of cool features. But the main thing I like to
use is the crop and re-size. So you can go in here and
change the size of your canvas. And also a very cool
feature is that you can get your canvas inflammation so it shows the
different things, but the main thing I like to
focus on is the statistics. And essentially this
shows you how much time you've spent
creating the artwork and how many strokes
you've made with the pencil and also
the file size about the trek to time is very
interesting because it shows you how much time
we spent on the outlook, then this is where
you export the file. So usually export as a JPEG. Or if you're doing
some animations which we will be doing later on, then you have these
features over here. I'm going to show you
on a different Canvas, but over here we have
a video feature and it automatically records the
entire drawing process. So if you tap this
time-lapse replay, then it shows you everything you did to create your character. So it's very cool and it's
always interesting and satisfying to see how the
drawing process looked, then overheat and preferences. The only thing I really use is the pressure and
smoothing brush. I like to use this because sometimes if you don't
have a steady hand, then this over here helps
you stabilize the pencil. I will show you if you are
creating a scribble like this. And you zoom all the way and then you can see that it's not really a perfectly even curve, it's a little bit staggered. Whereas if you turn up the stabilization and you
create the same shape, then this is a bit extreme, but you can see that the
brush follows the pen. Usually a good percentage to use is about the halfway point. Then you can see
it's much nicer. To undo all of these
lines we've created. We just use two fingers
and we tap on the Canvas. Then to bring them back, you use three fingers and again you tap on the
Canvas anywhere. Now a cool trick is
if we want to zoom in and create some details, give the ghost some eyelashes. If we went to zoom back out
into the perfect Canvas, all you do is you grab two
fingers and you snap out and you can see the canvas is perfectly aligned
with the screen. Then if we want to
return exactly to how our Canvas was
before, then you snap in. You can see it's exactly
the same placement, just a sec as we were working
on just a second ago. Another thing you
can do is you can go back into the preferences. If you are left-handed,
then you can change the size that your
bot appears on. This is a useful feature. And another thing you
can do is you can change the interface of
your Canvas so you can go into dark mode and
would like to work with a black interface and
you can do that and then you can change it back to
white in the same place. Then we can move on to
this button over here. And this one has essentially
the coloring of your canvas or this is the top button and you can change the
color of your Gerst. You can change the
brightness and the here. Then move the selection
over here you can cut out some sections of your drawing and you
can move them around. You can copy and fill it
in with a different color. We will be using this feature a lot as well throughout
the lesson. So you will get good practice. And this arrow is
just the select tool so you can use it to
resize the layer. And by the way, the ghost is on a different layer than the face. So this is why
this is happening. And you can also use warp, which allows me to do a whole
bunch of different things. And you can also use the store. So yes, there's a lot
of possibilities here. At the top of the canvas. If you see that are free doubts. If he touched those, you can see that it
allows me to split the screen so you can
use this to go into your gallery and
bring out an image so you can display a
reference and you can create your sketch alongside this split screen and
you can resize how much of the screen you see and you can cite
in-between the images. And to get rid of it, we
have to do is swipe to the right and we're back
to using Procreate. But the way I usually add my references is I
go to the wrench and I insert a photo and
it comes onto the canvas. Another cool thing you can do on this wrench is in
the Canvas category. Click on Reference. When that shows the references shows
you the entire canvas. It's always useful to
have this because if you zoom all the way in and again, you want to draw tiny details, then you can see it's coming
up on the actual reference. So it shows you how it
looks on the entire canvas, which is very useful if he
wasn't able to weigh in. And you're making small details and you want to see how
it looks on the whole. And you can also
click on image and the reference you are
working from will come up. And also this is great
because this will not show it in the
time-lapse video. To remove this, all you
do is you tap on the x, and this is it for the lesson. In the next video,
I will show you how to use the color
selection tool.
3. PART 1: Colour Selection: Hi artists and welcome back. In this lesson, I will
be showing you how to use the colors in Procreate. There are many ways we
can sample al-Qa'ida. You can use the desk. So you pick the color over
here and then there's saturation and brightness
inside of the circle. If you double-tap over here, procreate will
choose pure white. I Nephi double-tap over here, then procreate will
choose pure black. So these are very good
shortcuts to know, so you don't have to search
for them every time. Also, another cool trick
is that you can zoom into the cycle so that you can choose your color
more precisely. Then you have the classics. I
change the color over here, the saturation over here, and the brightness or the hair. How many helps me to choose colors that will
look good together. If you click on the name here, it will allow you to choose from a variety of
different modes. If you'd like any
of them around. The colors will move with them. So it makes it a lot easier
to find complimentary colors. But probably my
favorite thing about this color tool is that you
can create your own palettes. So this is a pilot
we have created for the illustration lessons
coming up late to run. And you can sample all the
colors that you're using. So this is when we have
selected right now. And it shows right over
here at the bottom. So you can choose
any color you like. And you just double-tap, and you just tap over here
onto the palette and it saves there so you can
go back and forth between your palate and the drawing and you
don't use a color. So to delete this,
all you do is you hold it down and you
delete the swatch. You can create many new pallets. So the way you
create that, as you click on this plus
button over here, and you create a new palette. Also, there are many
other features. So if you create new, if you click New from camera, then the camera will
open up and it will capture all of the
colors I'd seeing. So that's very useful to know. Another cool thing is
you can tap on new from photos and it will
present you with the image gallery
and then you tap on a selected photo and procreate automatically
import all of the colors that are
included in the photo. Here they are on
the compact mode. But also what you
can do is you can click on the cards
where you can see the larger icons and
they are labeled for you by Procreate. But what you can
do is you can tap on them and change the name. You can also pick up the
color and move it around the screen if it helps you to have it in a different place. And the way to get rid
of this as you click on the X button and it's
back where it was before. Procreate also comes with a very cool feature
called quick shape. So procreate can assist you
in making the perfect shape. So if you create a
square and hold it down, it will snap into a
more even object. And if you hold down with an
extra finger on the tablet, it will snap into
asymmetrical shape. You can also use the
edit shape button at the top and
change your shape. You can choose all
the different shapes from these listed above. And you can do the same thing
with circles and triangles. And this is it for the lesson. In the next lesson, I'll be showing it everything you need to know about brushes. See you in a minute.
4. PART 1: Brushes: Hi and welcome to the lesson. So now we will be
looking at the brushes. The brushes are sorted
into categories. If you swipe around, you can see all the different brushes
that are in a set. The top category shows you all the most recent
brushes you've used. So it makes it much
more easier to interchange between them
when you went drawing. Now a cool thing to know
about the Procreate pencil is that it works just
like a real pencil. If you press lightly,
the lines will appear very lightly on the canvas. But if you press harder, the
lands would be much darker, just like a real pencil. Now there is also
the same thing, what I taught them, the brush. So if you draw at a
straight angle like this, It's a very thin line. If you angle the pencil as
though you are shading, then look at they also does the same thing that a
real pencil would do. You can also control
the size and opacity. So here we are drawing with
a very small size brush. You can hardly see that. And then a bigger size. And also we have the opacities. So now this is all
the way at the top, so depression is very dark. And if you bring this down, then the line is much lighter. So if you slide right
next to this bar, this size will
adjust very quickly. But if you go towards the
other end of the screen, you will have a
lot more precision over the size of the brush. And you can do the same
trick with the opacity. The closer you
come to the Bar to foster size or
opacity will slide. There was also a plus button which will create
a memory point. You can save a
different brush sizes. So if you want to create
a big brush size, a medium brush size, and a small brush size. Then you can tap on them and easily interchange
between them. It's much easier to do
it this way than if you had to choose one on
your own each time. You can remove
them by tapping on them and tapping on the minus. Of course you can do the
same thing with the opacity. What's useful is
that you can set these different sizes and opacities for different brushes. If you change your brush,
then you can change. You can send new
sizes and opacities. And you can also do
this for the eraser. The opacity of the
brush essentially makes things are more
or less a safer. So if you use a different color, Let's choose blue and
turn down the opacity. You will be able to
see things beneath it. For an eraser, you can also use different brushes you
have in your library. So you may not
want to erase with a different brush because that
might look a little weird. But you can erase
will be same with the same brush that
you are drawing with by holding down the eraser. And then look at that, that
looks like lot more natural. You can select many
more different kinds of brushes to blend with two. This is everything you need
to know about the colors. And in the next lesson we will learn about
creating layers.
5. PART 1: Layers: Hi artists. In this lesson we will be learning
about layers. Layers are useful for a
bunch of different things. We can use them to move things
above or below each other. We can also slide
on them and click Duplicate to double our object. We can slide and
delete our layer. You can select different
layers to move them around. But a cool thing you
can do is you can tap on one layer and you select other
ones by sliding on them. And if you have these,
then you can essentially move all of our layers
together all at once, even though they are
not on the same layer. An important thing to
note is that if you take any shapes of the
screen like this, and then you come out
of the select tool, then procreate will
automatically crop them. So be very careful of this because you don't want
to damage your work. If you've got out
of the screen and he was still in the select tool. You can come back
in and it stays. But as soon as you come out of the select tool, it's cropped. So you can use this to your advantage when you're
trying to crop something, but you do have to be very
careful of this tool. You can add new
layers by tapping the Plus button over here. Remember the amount of
layers you can create as limited depending on the
side of your Canvas. You can check this over
here in Canvas information. How many layers you
have available. So right now we have 110, C7, but this can be a lot less
depending on canvas size. So make sure you always check. This useful thing you can do is you can merge all
your layers together. So e.g. right now, this mushroom is on its own because you can see it's on a separate
layer over here. So our mushroom consists
of these four layers. So we have the mushroom hat, the stem, the small
mushroom, and the grass. So essentially you can pinch
the top and the bottom layer together and all of them
will slide into one. So it creates one. They also know we can
move this around at once. But another thing you can do is you can tap on the layer
and click merge down. Then you can see these two
layers came together and now we can move them around
at the same time. But if you are going to do this, you have to make sure that the layer you want to merge all of its directory underneath the one that you
were tapping on. Instead of merging the layers to give a can also group them. So e.g. you can see that this is a group and I will show
you how to do this. So right now these two
mushrooms all separate. But if you tap on this
one and then you slide this one to the right than
they are both selected. And at the top you get an option that says
delete or group. So if you delete them, of
course they will disappear. But if you click group than they are now together in a new group. So we can rename
this to mushrooms. And now they are
altogether in one layer. When we have this script
selected as a whole, we can move them
around together. However, this does not
create new layers for year. You are still limited
to the amount of layers you have available
unless you manage them. You may also wish to work on one layer without the
distractions around them. So all you have to
do is hold down the checkbox and everything
else disappears. And to bring them back, all you do is the same
thing and here they are. Probably my favorite
feature is alpha lock. So if I want to
draw some patterns, you can see that
it's very hard to contain your lines
to the object. But if you tap on this layer
and you click on Alpha Lock, then you can see
that when we draw, we can only draw
inside the shape, that is the mushroom. This is very useful and I
use this all the time and I will show you how to use
this in the later lessons, so we'll get a ton of practice. This feature is very
useful if you want to do some shading or highlights. You can see that it's
enabled because it has the checkered box
in the background and a shortcut that
you can enable this as in two fingers and
swiping on the layer. And then nothing you can do
is if you are an alpha lock, you can tap on it and
click Fill Layer. Then what it will
do is it will fill the entire shape with the
color that you are using. This is all I will be showing
you for the layers lesson. And in the last lesson, I will show you
everything you need to know about coloring
in Procreate.
6. PART 1: Colouring: Hi artists and welcome to the last lesson of the
Procreate overview. Pat. In this lesson, we
are going to be learning about the coloring. The first thing I would like
to show you is if you are in a new layer and
you have a brush selected and you create a shape than a very
quick way you can call them in is by dragging
the color on tight. This is called the color drop. But what's very
important is that this will only work if
your shape is enclosed. Now you can see there
is a gap and then fulfill the sand and it
goes horribly wrong. And the whole page is
filled with the color. But if you enclose this and connect the lines and
you're dropping the colored. And it works perfectly. If I wanted to change the hue
of this entire pumpkin. And then all you do is
you drop on the column. But you can see it's contained only to the middle
shape over here. So if you drag on the color
and you hold it down, you can see on the top it
says color dropped threshold. And essentially what this means is how much does the color
spill onto the object? So if you go towards
the left-hand side, then you can see that the
threshold goes lower. And if you go
towards the bright, then the whole shape is filled. So essentially this controls the spill of the blue column. Use the continue filling with re-color which appears
here at the top. And you can use it to quickly identify which areas of the pumpkin procreate
will fill in. You can also use color
fill from the select tool. So if we choose a section of the pumpkin and we
choose Color Fill, you drag on the color and only the section we have
selected will be changed. And this is great
because you can check the color you are
going to use a live because we are in the
ad to only have to do is you can add different colors, time and you can
check the color live. And then the coloring
tool I like to use is the hue saturation and
brightness button over here. And essentially what
you can do is you can change the entire saturation, the brightness on the hue of the shape can even do the
whole layer like we just did. Or you can tap on it
and select pencil. Now, only the layers we are coloring in with our
pencil will change color. Also, you can tap on
the screen anywhere outside of the canvas
and a menu will show. Now you can hold down the preview button
and it will quickly compare how the
well-conducted prior to the changes compared to now. And you can cancel that if
you'd like the original wall. Now, if you are coloring
but you don't want the drinks to be on the
same reference layer. Then you can go onto the layer. Click Reference, then you click a new layer and you color in the outlines and they won't be
on the same layer. So you have to create a new
layer for this to work and make sure you turn
off the reference once you are done using it. This is it for the
Procreate overview. I hope you enjoyed and
learned something useful. And I will see you in the
next lesson where we will do some illustrations.
I will see you there.
7. PART 2: Halloween Illustration: Hi class, Welcome to the lesson. So in the next few lessons
we will be learning how to create very simple
illustrations in Procreate. So the one we're
going to start with is the Halloween illustration. And what we do is we click on
the plus button over here, and we're going to choose
the screen size option. I see prefer to make your
own Canvas, which is fine. But this is what
we're doing today. I choose my color.
I would like it to be very light gray or bluish. And I'm just going to make
sure I put my brush too about the halfway point
stabilization because I would like to create a
very neat cubby outline. I'm going into inking and I'm
working with my studio pen, which by the way is we're
going to use throughout the entire free classes. So here we're drawing our ghost shape and we
use the color drop. Remember our shape has to be
enclosed with this to work. And now let's just
zoom out a little bit and make this a
little bit smaller. And we'll go into draw a little ghost towns
poking out of the sides. Now what we're going
to do is we're going to click on our layer. And we're going to click Alpha Lock so that we can now only show up
in the shape of this guy. So let's choose a darker color. And I would like
to change my brush to a more charcoal
looking brush. This is the willow
charcoal brush. And this is also the
same one that we will be using throughout the
entire free classes. So now I am just creating some texture on the left-hand side of the
ghost to create a shadow. I quite like this
texture and I would like it to be over
the entire course. So I'm going to make my opacity smaller and my brush
size quite big. And I'm just going to do a very gentle layer
over the shape. Now I would like
to do is I would like to choose a lighter color, a very light blue. And I'm going to create
some highlights on the other side
opposing the shadows. If you don't quite like
the shape of this, then you can go into the, into the select tool
and go into warp. And you can make them
a little bit taller. You can do this.
You can move him around all the ways
that you want. And now we can add
another layer. And this time we are going to be working with a black guy to create the face. Let's zoom in. And we're just going
to create some eyes. And what you can
do to make these perfectly symmetrical is go into the layer and swipe to the left side and hit Duplicate. Now this layer is copied and we'll go into it
again and we're just going to flip it horizontally. Then we can move it and
align it with the other ray. And that's great. So let's
merge these two together. Remember we pinch them and we're going to draw
a classic round smile. By the way, the
colors I'm using, they are listed in
the top right corner. So be sure to look at those. I'm not quite happy
with the shape of the cell. I'm just
going to warp it. And now I would like
to add some details. So I will go onto the mouth
layer and moving eraser, I will draw some teeth. Now we're also going to merge
these two layers together. And we can re-size our face. And because right
now it's very big, so I'm just making it a bit smaller and
lineup of the face. Next, we are going to click on the face layer and
again hit alpha lock. And we will also fill it in
with a lighter shade of gray. Again, I'm using the willow
charcoal brush and I'm smudging across the entire
face to give it some texture. Next, let's take an
even lighter color and add some highlights to
the inside of the eyes. By the way, all the
palettes I have created, they are available for you to download and sampling
and procreate. So feel free to create the
color palettes with me. Or you can just use the
ones I have provided. And the colors I am writing
in the top right corner, they align with the
pilots we have created. Now we're going to
take our layer, make sure that it's
tapped and we're going to slide it
towards the right. And we are going to click Group. Now we can move around
our whole shapes. So let's rename it to our goals. And this is it. We're just going
to collapse this. And now we are going to
be drawing a pumpkin. Okay, so now we're going
to draw the pumpkin. I'm just going to create
an even shaped like this. And create some details on the sides and trying to create the lines as
perfectly as I can. And now we're going to fill
in each of those shapes. Remember for this to work,
they have to be enclosed. So check that you
don't have any gaps. And then I'm just going
to make some adjustments because I would like to perfect
the shape a little bit. Now what we're going to
do is we're going to create the outlines
around the pumpkin to define the shape some more on separate the shapes
from each other. So I'm just outlining. Now we're going to
click on this layer and we're going to
click on Alpha Lock. Again. You can enable this by using two fingers and
swiping towards the right. So now we're going
to be defining the shapes within the pumpkin. So we drag them down and we connect it to a
point at the top. And we're just going
to add details using the lighter orange color with the willow charcoal to make the pumpkin look a
little bit more dimensional. We're going to go back to using our inking brush,
the studio pen. I'm going to make it a
little bit smaller and add some details to the pumpkin. Okay, perfect. And now we're
going to make another layer. And we're going to
draw the branch that grows out of the
top of the pumpkin. So essentially we are
going to draw a spiral. See how perfect the
stabilization effect works. When we are free handing
a spiral like this, it can look quite ragged, but because we have
the stabilization on, it's a very smooth,
perfect shape. So I'm going to zoom in and
out to make the button, this branch a little thicker. Okay, and you can rotate it
a little bit if you want to. And now what I'm going to
do is I am going to again, alpha lock this layer. And we'll add some
highlights and shadows. And I'm just going to
keep this to one side. Then I'm adding the
shadows on the other side. This makes a massive difference. It really makes the shape of p as though it's
coming off the page. Now will the same color I have just usage with the shadows. I'm going to change
it to a studio pen. And I'm going to come
out of alpha lock and I'm going to work my
way around the shape. I'm going to stop line
here because they overlap. And I'm just finishing
up the shape. Now I'm going to
add some details to this part of the branch. So we are going to again
rename our layer to pumpkin. And there you have it. That is done. I hope
you enjoyed this one. And the next part of the lesson, I will show you how to
do a smiling pumpkin. Okay, so for this
mining pumpkin, we're going to do
something very simple. We are going to duplicate our pumpkin that
we've just created. We can hide the one below
because that's the old pumpkin. And let's go back into the ghostly over here
and the Smiley face. We have not merged them
because we're going to duplicate the face. We're going to drag
it at the very top above our new pumpkin. And we're going to
take the face and move on around and resize
it however we like. You can even fit in some
of the details if you want them to be a little
bit different. So e.g. I'm going to remove
one of his teeth. And again, we're going
to alpha lock our shape because we have to now blend this patch and all the rest of the
willow charcoal. I'm just blending it in
and now it's disappeared. It looks very seamless. We can also change the shape of
the face a little bit. We can change these
eyes into triangles. So let's take the rubber
and work our way around. I'm also going to remove this
side because I would like to duplicate the other one
to make it more symmetrical. So I'm just free
handing around it, clicking remove and
dragging it off the screen. Now I am selecting this side, I'm copying it and it
appears or the here. So again, I'm going to use the Select tool and
flip it horizontally. And now we have two
symmetrical eyes. I'm going to pinch them
together so they're matched. And now we have triangular eyes. We can also get this pumpkin I notice here with a
black studio pen, I'm doing a small triangle
and I am color dropping. And again with the Alpha Lock we adding some texture to it. What you can do if you like, is move some of these
facial features around. So if we grab these
and we want to put the eyes a little bit
higher above the mouth. Then that's how to do that. And this is pretty much done. But I would like to
show you how to use something else to further distinguish these
pumpkins from each other. So let's merge these layers, rename it into friendly pumpkin. By the way, a little trick you can do to
further distinguish these three pumpkins
is you click on this magic pencil
button over here, and we go to hue
saturation and brightness. You can slightly change
the color of the pumpkin. If we want it to be
a bit more yellow, we slide towards the
right-hand side. And we can make it
a little bit more saturated or less saturated. And we can also control
the brightness. So to compare these two pumpkin, this one is far
more on the brown, yellow side and this one is, well, I'm on the orange side. The way I'll start this
illustration is by drawing a curve and I'm holding it down so that
the shape is perfected. And now I'm doing the same thing with the bottom of the hat. I am enclosing my shapes so that I can color drop into it. So now we want to add
some texture to this hat. So we are using a gray color. This is a very dark gray color. And we'll make
sure to go back to our willow charcoal brush
in the chocolate category. And we will bring up our
opacity and the brush size, and we will just swipe
around the entire object. Now we're going to use
an even lighter color. And we're going to add highlights
on the left-hand side. Next we are going to come
out of alpha lock and we're going to use
a purple color because we want to draw
the band on the hat. We're going to draw a curve that follows the bottom of the hat. And I'm going to edit the line using this
feature over here, and I'm going to drag it down so that's a bit more curved. And we're going to draw
another line here at the top. And we're going to
connect the sides. So let's fill in this hole that I actually should
have made this one. They knew that. I recommend
that you do, but it's okay. We can just fill it
in manually by hand. And again, we will go
back to alpha lock and we're going to choose a lighter
version of this color, and we will add some highlights. Here without charcoal brush. We just create a highlight coming in from the
left-hand side. Remember it, the
highlight has to be on the same side that we used to. I like the hat. So our
heart is almost done. The last thing we have to do is just draw the buckle
over on the band. So we're going to create
a quick rectangle with a gold color and the studio pen. So we're not going
to let go once we complete that, we're
going to hold it. And we're going to quickly
click this button at the top. You have to be very
quick with this button because it does
disappear very quickly. So as soon as it comes up, just click it and adjust your
rectangle however you like. Drawing a little line here
to complete the buckle. We're going to alpha lock and create a highlight
on this buckle. We'll pick up a
darker gold color. And there you have
it. Now we are going to merge these two layers. And that's it. This is alpha hat
complete again, we're going to rename it to hat. This is our last drawing of
the Halloween collection. So we have the hat,
the friendly pumpkin, the regular pumpkin
and the ghost. Thank you very
much for watching. And I will see you in
the next lesson where we will draw some old terminal
foods. See you then.
8. PART 2: Kitchen Illustrations: Hi artists and welcome back. It's another day
and we are going to be creating some more autumnal. So again, we'll click
on the plus size, click screen size, or you can choose any canvas
size that you like. And we're going to start
by drawing a paper cup. And we're going to
start by creating the outline of the cup. I'm creating a curve and
I'm holding it at the, at the end so that it's nice. And even now I'm
going to connect to the theory held down so that Procreate captures
and we can edit the shape. The line is not perfectly drawn, goes on this side. Hold it down. I'm going to fill this in. Now I'm going to apply some shattering silico
to our charcoal brush. We are going to alpha lock our layer and create
a darker brush. And we're just going to apply
some shadows on this side, and of course some highlights. Here on the left. Why don't we create a palette? We're going to add all the
colors that we've used. Say this is the highlight color, this is the base color we used, and this is the shadow
colors or font. They end. Now we're going to create a new layer and we're going
to draw the lid of the cup. So we're going to slide over to a pinkish color and of course go back to our inking studio pen. And now we're going
to draw the sides. Now let's create another
layer and create the top. Can create the top of the land. And you'll see now
if we fill the sin, it goes horribly wrong and
the whole page is filled in. That's because if we're
working on a separate layer, This shape is not connected. We have to connect these two lines and then
we can fill this in. And it looks great. Okay, so now we are going
to alpha lock this layer, and of course we're going to add our highlights and shadows. But let's just make
sure that we add this color to our pallets. So this is the pink. And let's make sure
that this layer is behind the bottom of the cup so that it
looks more natural. And then I'm going to do the
same thing with this side. And now we're going to also
add this into our palette. And then we're going to
look for a highlight color, this tile palette, and also
add highlights on this side. And the reason why
we left these two S, two separate layers
is because we want to separate them
from each other. So now I'm going to go
into this layer over here. And I'm going to go back to our dark color, dark pink color. And I'm going to make the brush size a little bit smaller. And why mine to do
is I'm just going to draw a shadow
here at the very, very top, just to nicely
separate these two layers. And now that's pretty much done. Then we can merge them. Go, Sorry, I would like
to walk these two go to Warp, slightly elongate. Now we're also going to go
into our brown layer and we're going to go back to our
brown color or dark brown. And we're going to
do the same thing, create a shadow
underneath the lid. Now again, that's
making new layer and draw the holder
of the paper cup. So we are using our
pink color again, and we're just following
the same curves. Fantastic. And now let's pick a white color and we're going to create a very quick pattern
on this cup. Sir, again, we must alpha
lock our layer and I am just going to draw some spirals. Great. And now we're of course going to add some
highlights and shadows. And then here's our highlight brush and
do the same thing. So just merge these three
together and we are done. Okay, so we are going to start by selecting
a brown color, and let's try to use
the same palette, light brown color over here. And we're going to create an
oval shape and color fill. Then we'll create a new layer below this one and draw
the bottom of our pie. Now we can add some
highlights and shadows. Let's, we need to choose
a darker color. Here. Let's use black. And let's add this
to our palette. And of course, we
need to go back to our charcoal brush because we like the texture that it
creates over this studio pen. Apply the Alpha Lock. And we're just going to add
some darkness over here. Then we are choosing
our lighter color. I'm doing the second one. By the way, l, make all of these palettes
available for sale, will be able to switch them
if you want to do that, or you can also create
your own palette. Okay, so now we're
going to go into the top pie layer and
again, Alpha Lock. And let's choose this
dark brown color now for the shadow. And we're just going to, again, keep it to the
right-hand side and create a highlight here
on the left-hand side. And now we're going to create an even new layer and keep
this at the very top. And we're going to draw some details on the
outside of the pipe. And again, fill in our layout. Now Let's again add some
details to the past. So using this color and we must have our
floor, our layout. Okay, and now we are going to add some highlights
and shadows again. And now let's draw
some whipped cream at the top and perhaps in the
bearings. And we'll be done. By the way, if you want to change from the brush to erase, all you have to do is
double tap on your brush. Okay. So choosing now a
slightly darker gray. And we're going to draw some
details on our cute lifted. Perfect. And our claim is done. Of course we have
to Alpha Lock and add highlights and shadows to make it consistent
with the rest. Now let's draw some
decoration on the cake, so me creating a new layer and we have our inking
brush selected. And let's just draw some quick
little dots on our cake. Alpha Lock Eleni, of course. And we are going to now draw
some shadows on each berry. And then some
highlight of course. So of course we are going to manage all of our
layers together and squeeze them together
and rename two pi. So this is our
drawer and complete. And in the next
lesson we're going to draw some very cute
cinnamon sticks. Okay, so of course we're
going to hide this layer, create a new one,
and draw our sticks. So we'll start by using
this mid brown column. And let's make sure we're
working with our studio pen. And draw the curve. Straight line and two
curves here at the top. Okay, and we're of course
going to fill in our shapes. And now let's see is
the dark brown color. Make sure that our shape is
connected and color drops. So now we have to alpha lock our layer and with
the dark brown color, we are going to create some quick shadowing just in the areas that would be
hidden away from the light. So let's focus these towards the right-hand side to make the shape of pay a bit
more three-dimensional. And now we're picking up
a lighter brown color and add some highlights. Now let's use our
dark brown color almost to the back one. And we'll go into focus this
on the inside of the stick. During along the inside and adding some brown
as I highlight. Now what we can do to save
ourselves the time is we'll slide it to the left and
we click on Duplicate. So we'll take the bottom
one and we're going to bring it underneath
this cinnamon stick. Then we're going to click on the magic pencil button and go to hue saturation
and brightness. So what we'll do is we'll just
decrease the brightness by a little bit just to make these two distinctive from each other. Now we're going to duplicate
this darker layer and move it towards the left side to create our facades
cinnamon sticks. Okay, so now we can pinch them together and move them around. So I'm using a
medium pink color, creating a new layer. And I'll just draw curves
to create the string. And now we're going to
create a quick bowl shape. And we will alpha lock, of course, add some
shadows to elbow. Keep that towards
the right side, and of course some highlights. So again, we're using our
willow charcoal brush for this. So now let's merge
these together. We have our cinnamon sticks, and this is a, this is our cinnamon stick
illustration complete. And we will now create the final
illustration of the lesson. We are going to
create a pink cattle raising this pink color
and the studio pen. And we're going to
draw two curves. Why don't we rotate this
shape so that we can work on a horizontal canvas. Now we are using a
lighter pink color. Of course, we are going
to alpha lock our layer and we create two curved lines, again following the same curves. We fill this in. So now let's use the dark pink color
to draw some polka dots. On this area. Again, you can create
any pattern layer like perhaps some
branches or flowers. I just went for these dots because they are very
simple and care. Now we're going to draw some
highlights and shadows. So we're picking up
our charcoal brush and the dark pink color and focusing
this on the right side. Now we're picking up a
very light pink color, again, willow charcoal, brush and creating the
highlight on the left side. Okay, so now we're creating
another layer and we're going to drag it below our part. And this is our handle, the nose of our kettle. Then let's make the
top of the kettle so we're going to use
our dark pink color. New layer, move it to the top. Again, adding our highlight using pink willow
charcoal brush. And I'm going to use a
dark pink color to isolate this pot over here and add some highlights towards
the bottom and the right. Let's go back to
our medium layer. So this section over here. And we will still use our dark pink brush and further separate the lid and the keto form each other. I will now create a dark about
another scholar and we do this one more time just to separate these two days
from each other some more. And now what we will do as
the final step is we will just draw a little bit of steam coming out
from the kettle. So let's much all of
these layers together. Move our kettle to the side. I'm carrying a new layer. So I am just working with the
willow charcoal brush and I'm going to select a light
gray willow charcoal. Shallow burst size is
a little bit bigger. And we're just going to create a funky shaped like a cloud. So it creates the
appearance of steam. We roughly filling
in this shape. And I'm going to change the size of this and
you can warp it. And of course, let's add
this to our palette. And now we're going to use
a darker gray color to add some dimension to this steam. And this is it, This is our
cathode ray and complete. These are all the
drawings we are doing for this autumnal
kitchen lesson. And the next lesson we
will draw some mushrooms. Thank you very
much for watching, and I will see you then. Bye.
9. PART 2: Mushroom Illustrations: Hello artists and welcome back to our last illustrating class. So in this class we're going to draw three different
kinds of mushrooms. So let's take our Apple
Pencil and we will click on the plus sign and enter screen size and
we're ready to go. So let's start with a
brown set of mushrooms. We draw this little shape
like so, color drop. And I'm going to take
a lighter brown. And I'm going to draw a similar shape alongside
the previous one. Then we're going to create
the hat of the mushroom. We entering a new
layer. And let's work below the previous layer. So let's create a circular
shape. Hold it down. And I'm filling it in with
a lighter color inside. And we will draw some
dots on this mushroom. And now let's sample this beige color and
draw some more dots. Now let's go into
the slate over here. We'll connect the
middle of the mushroom to the edges of the hat. And we will now add some
highlights to this. So of course that's grabbed
our chocolate with a brush. Let's start with the stem. I'm sampling this
light brown color and I'm making a
lighter version of it. And we have to remember to
alpha lock all of our layers. And here we go. Now I'm using the dark brown
color and I'm going to return the shadow
to the right side. I'm going to get a
much darker version of this color and turn down the opacity and draw a sharp shadow towards the
right hand side of the stem. Now we're going to do
the same dark color we have now make the brush
size a little bit bigger and draw the shadow towards the right
side of the mushroom. And also using a brown color, we're creating the
texture on the left side. And also the bottom of my
heart with using this color, this light beige color
and creating a highlight. And with the beige color, I am going to create a
shadow on the right side. This is pretty much
our mushroom dance. Or the only thing I would
like to do is merge these two layers together
and reposition them. I'm going to change the
shape a little bit. So now what we're going to do to save us all the time is we are going to duplicate both layers. And we're going to take our hat and we'll
move it underneath. So that these two
days altogether, I know will merge these and
we have a second mushroom. So of the second
mushroom we can rotate it and make it smaller. So that door to mushrooms
next to each other. And of course we can
move it to change the shapes that they don't look just copied and
pasted. This is almost done. Why don't we just create
a small patch of grass on the button using a new layer and we're selecting
a green color and we're just
drawing the grass. Going to rotate this because
my next kind of uneven. And of course we are
going to alpha lock our layer and add some
highlights and shadows. Again, light green and dark green with the
winner charcoal. And now we are going to
duplicate all of this and create a small patch of grass to
the left side of this one. And we can now change
the brightness of those to make them
stand out some more. We all know grouping them and changing the name to a router. I am leaving all of the layers separate because I will be using some of the elements for
the next illustrations. So now this is
algebra and mushroom complete and we will draw
a red South mushrooms. So we have a new layer and we're going to start by going into, by going back into
our previous drawing. And we will duplicate
this mushroom at stem, will bring it up and we'll go
into use this as a basis to draw the remaining mushroom
square for this one, we can change the here. Anyway that you like. I'm going to make mine a
little bit more yellow. And I'm also going to color
drop some brown onto it. And I will draw a
red mushroom hat. So that's my day red
color that we like. And we will create
a circle. Again. Our layer is on top this time. We will fill it in. And now we're going to use a lighter pink color and a new layer underneath
the mushroom hat. We're creating a cow. Okay, now let's use a
almost white color. This one. It's light pink and we
are going to merge them together and create some
dots on the mushroom. So we change the brush
to our charcoal brush. And we're going to close alpha, lock the layer and create a highlight
all on the left side. And now we're going to use a darker red color and create
a shadow on the right side. Will go into pinch
them together. Slide to the left to duplicate. Use the top layer and make
it into a smaller mushroom. I'm going to walk this mushroom again to make it different
from the big one. Hi, one that orbits or
it can tilt sideways. Again, we will pinch
them together and we can make use of our
patch of grass. So let's finish them together. Side duplicate and bring them on top of the
red mushrooms. Just that how you like it. This is pretty much done. They have it. This is our second
set of mushroom. And finally we will draw the very quick, but very mushrooms. Again, we're going to
duplicate the mushroom stem. We will bring it up
to our new layer. But this time we are going
to change the color of it to a very light,
almost white color. So I'm going to use a
very light gray brush, the willow charcoal texture. And I'm just going to run it for the left
side of the mushroom. Now we're going to
create the mushroom hat. So again, a new layer
underneath the stem. We're going to look for a
blue color that we like. And we're going to
use our inking brush. Color drop and a
lighter blue color, create a new layer
underneath the mushroom hat. And just create a cough. I'm connecting them so
that I can color fill. Now going to sample this color, the blue color, and I will
draw a curve at the bottom. All of this together and move
it around how I like to. Of course, we have to add some details to
our mushroom hat. So we have pretty much using
the same kinds of details, the same composition, but we
are using different colors. This is just a way
to show you how you can create infinite
illustrations. With just a little
bit of creativity. Just like we're doing
now with the mushrooms. So now let's sample this blue color and create
a darker version of it. Of course it's Alpha Lock. And we are going to
create a quick lines, runs right through the
middle to separate the mushroom from
the bottom of it. And now we can add some
highlights and shadows. So we are going to
change again to our willow brush
in the charcoals. So this is in the
chocolate category. We'll add some shadows
to the right side. Again, this has to be
consistent with the stem. The shadows broke off
to be on the same side, and so do the highlights. And I am now going to create a light blue color to
add some highlights. Again, that's much
them together. Move them slightly how we went to duplicate and make
the smaller mushroom. Of course it can be a whooping. Again, we'll just
use the grass again, slide to the left,
bring it up to the top. And let's move it
to why we like it. We can manage all of this
together and this is it, this is our dream complete. I hope you really enjoyed creating these
mushrooms with me. I will see you in
the next lesson. Bye.
10. PART 3: Stickers: Hi artists. So now we're moving on to part three of our drawing class. So we know how to use Procreate. We found all of the
hidden features. And now we are going to put our illustrations
to good use. And we will see how
to make a variety of different things like stickers or bookmarks and
even animations. So let's start with stickers. Why don't we try to make e.g. mushrooms into stickers. So you go into a gallery
and you make a new canvas. So you click on this over here. So we are in dimensions. And when you are
making a sticker, you have to think about what kind of paper you
will be printing on. For me, the usual
sticker paper size is 8.5 by 11 " or so. This is currently set to pixels. So make sure you go down
here and click on inches, and you see these change. So let's go for 8.5 by 11 ". So you might want to check the actual paper
size that you have, but usually stick or
papers or this size, give it a name over here. And let's create. Now this will come up
on your list over here. It's saved forever. So let's go over to our sticker paper and let's copy into it
some of our layers. Here we have our mushrooms, and this mushroom is in a group. So remember, we want to, we want to move this
entire illustration into our sticker paper. And right now it's on
the different Canvas, so we have to take
them and squish them together to merge it into
just one illustration. Then we tap on this
and we click Copy. Then the whole layer is copied. So we go back into gallery, into our sticker sheet, and you go into this
wrench over here, add and you click Paste. So here is our mushroom. And now we will make
it into a sticker. So what you want to do
is you want to take off the background color
because you want to draw a separate objects.
So take this off. And now we don't have any
background behind this. And now what we will
do is we'll create a new layer and bring it down
underneath the mushrooms. Now, when you print stickers, you want that to be a white
border around the object. So now we're going
to create this. So this is why we
made this layer and we're going to
choose a white color. So for the brush, we want to use something that's very solid. So e.g. if we had used our soft pastel, this wouldn't work because
it's not a solid column. So let's go back into
our inking category. And for this, we're going
to choose the syrup brush because it's similar to the studio pen, but
it's much thicker. So let's use that. And now we are working in the
layer behind the mushrooms. And that was a very steady hand. We are going to trace around the outlines of the
mushroom to help you make these lines nice
and even make sure you go into your ranch and
into your preferences. And in pressure and smoothing, keep the stabilization
quite high. So for me I like to keep
it quite in the middle. But if you're going
to go very slowly, you can even allow yourself
to bring it to the maximum or somewhat in this high
numbers over here. But for me, I'm just
going to use it about halfway point and
that works well. So you zoom all the way in. And let's start with
this over here. And you just, you see,
you just start to make a nice thin line
around the mushroom. You can turn it around
to make it easier for yourself to do the lines. We can't forget about the insight section of
the mushroom over here. Now, our entire mushroom
around the outside is filled. And the way you can
check this is to go into the layer underneath and drop a color into it and
if anything leaks, this indicates that we
left our line open. Let's go back. Put this layer back on. And now we have
outlined at the object, so it has almost ready to print. The only thing is you
probably don't just want to print one sticker. You want to make multiple
so you can match this. Let's make it smaller depending on how big you want
your stick it to be. I will want mine to
be around this big. Then we will take
this and duplicate. Then you can take this
and create more stickers. And we have these
reference lines over here. You see the blue lines which indicate that the
objects are in line. So this is make,
this makes it much easier when we're
building a pattern. Why don't we move this one a little bit to
the right because sometimes the sticker sheet, they can be a little bit
cropped and we don't want to lose a part
of our sticker, so let's just bring
them down a little. Now we will duplicate this one and we'll move it
to the right hand side. Okay, great. Now we can merge all of these. Duplicate and we can
bring them down. We'll keep it in line
with these overheads. So if these blue lines are
all showing up for you, that means you are
in the right space. So it looks good. Now let's duplicate this again
and fit one more in there. Okay, so now that we
have duplicated them, they are pretty much
ready to print. Also, what we can do is we have a lot of empty space over here. So Let's select this
mushroom over here. So let's make sure that we
are working on the layer. So this is the bottom layer, and let's click on this. We are in the
Freehand option and we are going to make sure that
we are in the Add section. We are in our freehand
option and we're going to work our way around this mushroom and tap on this thought so that
the shape connects. And now we're going to
use copy and paste. Click on this over here. That
if you go into the layers, here is our image, you can see it's separate. If we hold this down, then the rest disappears. We'll bring it back on. Now you can take this object
and you can make it smaller. So you can have tiny
mushroom stickers as well. And we can duplicate
these and make more. Manage these. Again, duplicate. This is pretty much,
it's very simple. This is the most basic
understanding of making stickers. It's just an idea. So you have some inspiration
for what you want to do with your beautiful
or terminal illustrations. And next we will take a look
at how to create bookmarks.
11. PART 3: Bookmarks: Okay, and now in this
part of the lesson, we will explore how
to make bookmarks. I think the Halloween
illustrations would look best as a bookmark. So why don't we try that fast? We have to of course,
make a new canvas size. And usually bookmarks are
around outside two by 6 ". You can adjust this
however you like, but if you do two by 6 ", we'll call it bookmark. It looks about like this, which seems about right to me. You can make it smaller or
bigger, whatever you please. And okay, so now this is empty. Let's go into our
ghost illustration. And again, he's separate,
he's as a group. So we're going to merge
these two together. Tap on it and copy our layer. Go back into our bookmark.
Click on the wrench. Add Paste. Here is our ghost. And let's bring in some
other illustrations to make this more interesting, Let's pick up our pumpkin layer. One by one. I am copying them
into our new canvas size. Okay, so now we have all
four of our illustrations, and let's spread them out to
make our composition nice. I feel like the
ghost and the pump and the smiling pumpkin
on my favorites. So I want to choose the
best position for them. So I want my girls to be
all the way at the top. And then went in tilted. Then let's choose our pumpkin. But this one here. Now I will, which hat can adjust the
size to make it ideal. Okay, so we have one on this
side, this one on this side. It's whining pumpkin
in this side and the regular pumpkin
on this side. Now, we can create a cool background to make
this more interesting. So let's go to background color. Why don't we pick a very dark, scary Halloween color as you
are adjusting your color, you can see it live on the bookmark so you can
see what works best. Wherever you would like. A
brownish color, a red, greens. I quite like purple. So I'm going to create a very dark purple color and I think this
looks fantastic. Now what we can do is we
can create a new layer. And how about we add
some quick little stars? So let's go to our studio pen. We're working with
a white pencil. And let's draw some
very quick stars. Great. What do we think of this? I think it would be also
acute. Add some texts. How about we try some of
the interesting brushes? Let's take a look at
these smoke brush. And let's use a nice
orange color for this. Let's try making the brush
size a little bit quite big and bring down the
opacity however you like it. And we will just draw a
cool highlight over here. Cool. And let's insert some texts so you go
into your wrench, click on Add Text. And we wrote happy rating. So now we go into the settings. We have to make the size. Remember you have to
select all of this. Let's bring this all
the way at the front so you can see we select all of this and make
the size much smaller. And let's pick a
font that we like. I quite like this potty
LET, font over here. I think it looks very much in line with
the Halloween theme. I'm going to make it a white color so I can
see it clearly forever the background and I'll
move it down over. This is actually quite
difficult to see, so I'm going to go into the highlight lariat layer and I will just turn
down the opacity. So this is it. This is one example of how
you can create a bookmark. Of course, you can change this. You can make it much nice about this is just to demonstrate the different things you can do with your illustrations
in Procreate. And in the final
part of this lesson, I will show you how to create some very simple animations.
12. PART 3: Animation: Hi students and welcome
back to the lesson. So in this part we're going to do some very simple animation. So this illustration is perfect for animation
because I think it would be nice idea if we can make this
steam, have some movement. So this is going to be a very basic understanding
of animations. Um, it will just give you
the very general principles. So the way to do it is if
we create a new layer, we essentially use
the same brush that we used for the steam, which is the willow
charcoal brush. And the same color. Essentially in each layer, you slightly change the
appearance of this. So if we want the seam to go up, we will draw over the top, make it go a little bit higher. And then we use a lighter
color and draw some details. Create another layer. Again, use a darker gray color. And again change this
theme a little bit. Then we pick up a
lighter color again. And we add details. Then another layer. And again light time. So now we have 1234 layers and
essentially web animations. You want the effect to
loop so the drawing can't go from one position to a completely
different position. That kind of has to bounce back. So now if we draw another layer, we're going to try to
bring this shape down. So again, let's
ease the dark gray. Okay, and now we have
all of these layers created and they
are all on display. But the problem is that we need the teapot on the same
layer as our steam. So we're going to take
it off alpha lock. And we will duplicate this and we will merge
each one of them down. Now, we can hide this kettle
because it's on its own. We don't need that anymore. And then if we go into the wrench and we
go into the share, then you will see the
animated GIF option. If you click on
this, you can see that the steam starts moving. And here you can adjust
the frames per seconds. So if you make them go up, it looks very glitchy,
quite unnatural. And they can make them go down. Then they hardly move. It just shows you how many
of the layers show up. Second, so usually I find
when I make animations that about the midway point here
on the scale works best. Another interesting
feature I use is you can turn on
transparent background. So then you can
export it as a PNG. And this essentially means how much of the background
Procreate cut. So usually about the
midway point is the best. And this is pretty much it
so that if you export it, you can save the image. And if you go into your gallery, find it right over here
and you can use it as a sticker to send to your friends will
add to your videos. Yeah, you can put
sound effects over, and this is pretty
much a very simple way to make animations in Procreate.
13. Final Thoughts & Class Project: Artists, we made it
to the final lesson. Thank you so much
for taking my class. If you enjoyed it, I would
absolutely love if you left a positive review or a
comment or a project, your interactions with
the class help it show up on Skillshare
so other students may find it if you
have any questions or would like me to clarify
anything in the class, please ask below and I wouldn't be very happy to help you. If you have a friend
who recently got an iPad and you think they
would enjoy this class, then please share
the link with them. Make sure that when you upload your project to leave a link to your social media
or your website so others can find more work from you for the class project, I would love for you
to follow some of the simple illustrations
and upload them. I would love to see
your drawings and of course I will
provide feedback to. I have more Procreate
classes here on Skillshare, such as creating simple
fruit illustrations. So definitely check these out. I also have a bunch of classes using traditional
medium like pastels. So if you are curious
how my art is created, I would love for
you to have a look. Don't forget to follow
my Instagram Victor, I'm Nico art or my
website Victoria me co.com to find my details
and see more of my artwork. And that is all from me. Again, thank you so much
for watching my class. I really do hope that you enjoyed it and found it helpful. I am looking forward
to seeing your art and answering any
questions you may have. Thank you again and
happy creating.
