1. Introduction: Let's create uncomplicated colorful and high quality art! By using vibrant colors, you can uplift your mood and decorate your home. Hello, my name is Micki. I'm a Japanese artist. I have been painting in this style for over 20 years. My art captivates viewers and has a positive impact. In Japan, I organize rental art projects in which my artwork are displayed in offices, hair salons, homes, and clinics, and are changed every 3 months. Now I live in Germany and have continued my artists career here as well. I participate in market and attract people's attention. My art reaches people's hearts across world borders with positive vibes. I hold a solo exhibition And I hold a solo exhibition every year and I also offer live and online interactive art lessons. My participants are very satisfied with the experience and leave great reviews. Although my art is not realistic, there is logic in my use of colors. In this class, I will explain how to capture the brightness of colors and transform them into a vibrant piece of art, one color at a time. This class is recommended for anyone who beginners in art and experienced art enthusiasts. It is good to individuals who are looking to start their journey in painting as well as those who already have experience and a passion for art. Throughout the lessons of this class, we will all use the same image and colors, but everyone's end project will be unique. I find that our subconscious selves are reflected in our art, and by looking at our own pieces, we can discover something new about ourselves. Please be sure to upload your art to the Class Projects. Let's enjoy our differences. By using vibrant colors, you can elevate your mood and and attain a deeper understanding of your subconscious and emotional state through the completed artwork. By the end of the class, you can create your own unique and uplifting artwork. With your finished project, you can frame your artwork and display it in your home, print it as postcards, use it as your social media icon, or create your own products with your art. In this class, we will be painting one of the endangered species, the "koala." By painting a koala, which we don't often see in our daily lives, I hope to inspire thoughts about their life and our shared environment. et's create a colorful world together, nd make it a more vibrant and beautiful place. 2. Project: Welcome to the class. Here I will explain how we proceed with this project. Firstly, I want to explain a technique to convert brightness into primary colors in my style. Instead of simply reproducing the observed colors, I will create a colorful representation. Bright colors like yellow and yellow-green are used for areas where light is, while darker colors like purple and dark green are used for shadowed areas. Even if you use colors that are different from reality, it will look three dimensional. I will also show you what we need for this class, However, it's not necessary to prepare the same materials as me. If you don't have enough paint colors, feel free to mix and create substitutes. Please use whatever you have at your home and start this project with relax feeling. I'm providing a reference photo which you can find in the project & resources tab. Once you're there, you'll see Download Resources. That's where you can click to download a reference photo for this class. Then we start drawing. To ensure the whole koala fits well on the paper, roughly mark the positions of the ears, face, and body using dots. By establishing the overall framework instead of focusing on details, it will be less likely for the proportions to go off. However, remember that there is no right or wrong in drawing. You don't need to draw exactly as in the photo. So feel free. If you prefer to skip the sketching part, you can also download my sketch from Resources tab. And trace it to your watercolor paper. Three-phase approach for coloring: base, details, and shadows. Using vibrant colors will uplift your mood. Since we will be painting one color at a time together, you won't feel lost. Each lesson takes about a minute, so you can achieve wonderful art without exerting too much effort and enjoy the process. Let's enjoy our difference. When you finish your painting, please take a photo share it in the student project gallery. If you want to share your project on Instagram, please tag me and skillshre. So we can both like and comment social media too. Please don't forget to follow me on Skillshare by clicking the "Follow" button up top. In the next lesson, I will explain he key technique of this class :brightness. 3. Brightness: Colors have variations of lightness and darkness. The koala is gray, but it has areas where light is hitting and shadow areas. In the brightly lit areas where light is hitting, we will use a high-brightness yellow, while in the shadowed areas, a slightly darker pink is used. Converting it to monochrome. This will make the light and shadow contrast more pronounced. If you place an image photo next to it, we notice that the light and shadow in the painting resemble those in the photo. We use purple, dark green, blue, red, pink, yellow green, yellow. Of course, these colors have lightness and darkness. Converting it to monochrome. Light and dark can be clearly recognized!! Bright yellow or yellow green with high brightness are used for the foreground, areas where light is hitting, and lighter parts of the fur. Dark purple or dark green with lower brightness is used for shadowed areas and adding details with a fine brush. I explained the logic behind capturing light and shadow and converting it into vivid colors, but in this class, we will be painting one color at a time together, so there's no need to fully understand it. Let's start with a relaxed mindset. In the next lesson, I'll explain what is needed for this class. 4. What We Need: I will introduce the materials we will be using in this class. It's not necessary to have all of them. If you're missing a color, you can mix it to create it, and if you don't have a palette, you can use a plastic tray as a substitute. Two brushes, one thick and one thin, will be sufficient. Please check if you have them at home. Watercolor paints Any paint is fine. I use tube paints, but you can use pans if you like. In this lesson we use purple, dark green, blue, red, pink, yellow green, yellow. The brand I use is Holbein. There are inexpensive paints, but I feel that they may be inferior to the coloring and bleeding. If you don't have these colors, mix your own one to make a close match. You don't need to paint exactly like me. Please create your own unique art. Let's enjoy our individuality. This class is designed for using primary colors to have fun and refresh. Next step, Brushes. We should choose the soft brushes for watercolor. Flat brush No.16 Paint the base colors with this Flat thick brush. Round brush No.0 Paint the details. With just two brushes, you can create wonderfully fun art. I use 200g paper. It may not be too thick, but you can try it easily and relaxingly. Sketchbook for kid's is also fine. Don't hesitate to paint and keep trying new one. When you want to convey your feelings through letters or cards, you can accompany them with colorful art. If you have a printer, it's good to take photos or scan the art and print them out. Pallet. I use this portable palette. It's alright you use a simple one. If you don't have a palette, you can substitute it with a plastic tray. Pencil. I like soft lead. In this class, we primarily focus on using vibrant colors. Detailed sketches are not necessary. I recommend sketching roughly with a soft lead pencil. You don't need to draw the sketch exactly as shown in the photo, and if you don't feel like sketching, you can download the one I drew from the Resources tab and use it as a reference. If you prefer to skip the sketching and start with coloring, that's also possible. Eraser. It's just normal eraser. Probably you can find your home. A cloth. I enjoy watercolor bleeding. so I make plenty of water on my brush. A cloth is necessary for situations where I want to adjust the amount of water or when I need to clean the brush thoroughly. Water dish. Water for cleaning the brushes is also necessary. I use this simple glass bottle, You don't need to buy it specifically. You can use empty bottle from jam, honey, yogurt, etc. So look for something in your home that is kind of a water dish. Reference photo. When I paint, I almost always see reference photos. From there I refer to shapes and shades and atmosphere. Usually, I have it on my iPad. You can print it out or save it on your mobile. Even though my painting is not photo-realistic, it's still nice to have a photo to help my imagination get more lively. we are ready to start. In the next lesson, we will start sketching. 5. Sketch: Let's start sketching First to fit the entire koala on the paper. Take points along the outline as reference and fit for the size on paper. Start by looking at overall shape without focusing on details. Determine the head, ears, shoulder width, and position of the butt. Decide the position of the knees, Draw a line from the shoulders to the foreleg. Also determine the line for the closer foreleg. At this point, you should have a rough idea of the overall composition. Connect the dots you've marked as points to create a more specific shape. It's okay to keep it rough. If you feel something is wrong, erase and make corrections. Once the outline is complete, draw the nose, which is located in the middle of the face. Draw the eyes. There's no need to draw them too precisely. Finally, draw the mouth. Add lines for the tree, and the sketch is complete. In the next lesson, we will start adding the base colors. 6. Raise your mood with Pink: Flat Brash No.16 Pink. Let's dip the brush into water generously. With bold determination, we start painting areas with black fur or shadow parts, like under the jaw and around the eyes, follow the surface contours. Adding pink on the cheeks makes it look cute. We paint the ears following the direction of the fur. We also add shadows from the shoulders to the forelegs and his butt. If the brush color becomes lighter, I dip it in paint again, and if the colors are hard to apply, I add a little water to the brush. I make the pink on the back. Add pink to the shadow in the face. Shadow around the mouth. Finally, I define the position of the knees clearly, and the base pink color is complete. 7. Bright area: Let's thoroughly wash the brush. hen, we lightly wipe it with a towel, leaving plenty of water, and dip the brush into yellow paint. First, starting from the cheeks where the bright light hits, we paint with yellow. Without getting too detailed, we quickly fill in the white areas. We also fill in the white areas of the body with yellow. If the color starts to fade, let's add more paint to the brush. Following the shape of the surface, we also paint around the hind legs, filling in the white areas. Let's enjoy the brush strokes without worrying about the details. We add a touch to the tree and use the brush to follow the flow of bright hair color around the ears. In the next lesson, we will use yellow-green paint. 8. More vibrant: Let's thoroughly wash the brush again, and apply yellow-green paint. We paint under the jaw and the shadows on the shoulders. We paint the shadows on the forelegs and outline the shape of the hind legs. Pink and green are complementary colors, so when painted next to each other, they create a sense of brightness. Let's sprinkle yellow-green color throughout the whole painting. We add some yellow-green to the black nose and around the eye sockets. We move the brush to the flow of the hair around the ears and make the overall composition more vibrant with yellow-green. We paint the trees that the koala is sitting on, marching its shape and filling it with straight yellow-green strokes. In the next lesson, we will use a thin brush to add details to the painting. 9. Details: Round brush No.0、purple. We paint the eyes with small dots. There is no right answer let's paint comfortably. Paint the shape of the nose and the mouth. Then, we depict the flow of hair around the ears. Shadows under the jaw. We paint the position of the shoulders and outline the forelegs. We paint the lines for the hind legs and clearly define the knee positions. We also paint the outline of the tree the koala is sitting on. This lesson is complete. In the next lesson, let's paint the shadows with dark green. 10. Contrast: Flat brush No.16, dark green Dark green, being a darker shade, is used to depict the shadows. We move the brush along the flow of hair around the ears. For the nose, which is black, we layer dark green on it. We also paint shadows under the jaw, on the shoulders, in the hollow above the eyelids and the shadow on the cheeks paint with dark green. We add dark green to the shoulder line, shadows on the forelegs, the hind legs, the tree, and the knees, sprinkling dark green throughout the entire painting. The scattered dark green contrast beautifully with the pink and yellow, enhancing the overall appearance. in the next lesson add red to the shadows. 11. Make it gorgeous: Brush No.16 apply red paint. We layer red over the darker parts of the hair around the ears, gradually intensifying the color. We also add red to the shadows on the shoulders and the forelegs. We define the shape of the hind legs clearly and use red to depict the shadows cast on the sitting bottom. We add some red to the cheeks for a cute touch. We also paint the tree with red. We scatter red throughout the painting to give it a gorgeous overall look. In the next lesson, we will use a thin brush and blue paint to add some depth to the painting. 12. Final touch: Brush No. 0 is used for the final step, we apply the blue color. Gently dabbing the blue onto the eyes, we add a touch of blue. The combination of purple and blue gives birth to a gleam in the eyes. Add blue to the nose and mouth. We depict the ear fur in blue, making it distinct and sharp. Adding blue to the ear fur, we create the flow. We define the forelegs, and we paint the shadow where the hind leg meets the tree. We paint a little of blue to the tree. Let's added your signature in the color of your choice, the artwork is complete. A colorful koala has appeared. In the next lesson, I'll give a final consideration. 13.
