1. Motivation + Intro : welcome to the pronounce finish like a boss online cause my name is Alex. It and I will be a teacher on this course on why it's pronunciation so important. Well, festival pronunciation lays the foundation on your speaking skills because every time you speak, you will be pronouncing. So that's why it's important to have the pronunciation down right from the start, because it's quite easy to develop. For example, bad happy it's and stuff be if you are too lazy with the pronunciation when you are in the early steps off your language learning and secondly, pronunciations, actually one of the easiest things in Finnish. If you're watching this course, you're probably learned on study. It finished a little bit, and you probably also noticed that finishes one of the most difficult languages out there. But luckily the pronunciations actually one off the easiest aspects or finished pronunciation rules are very straightforward in finish, and that makes it actually easy to pick up the rial pronunciation. Also, one interesting thing to keep in mind is that it's actually easier to remember stuff that you can pronounce well than the ones that you can can't pronounce well, so by having the correct pronunciation. It will also help you to remember stuff and also importantly, if you want to sound like a native Finn, if you want to sound like a truth with the rial, Pronunciation is a must off course. This applies to any language but also finished, so make sure you also keep that in mind when you are practicing pronunciation skills. Like I said, my name is all except I'm a 28 year old Finnish guy. I'm a master of science in business and technology on a swell assay youtuber on an online entrepreneur. And aside from finish, I've also studied and learned for other languages. And I also like languages in general, their little fun. And it's always call the nor languish when you meet people around the world and you can speak their language even a little bit. I'm not the pro teacher I have. No, I haven't taken any teacher qualifications or the university or anything. And I think it's just an advantage because I have a little bit different approach on teaching and learning a language, and my goal is to teacher just a sense so basic and important things with easy explanations . All right, so now we have the motivation, the important things, why we should actually learn chaperons, finish. And also, you know, who is this dude trying to take your face? So? So in next video, let's actually cover what kind of things we will practice in this course. See in the next video.
2. Course contents: What's up, guys? Welcome to a new video. Before we jump right into the course, let me quickly cover what we will learn in this cause. So in this part one, we will focus on the basic characteristics off the finish pronunciation and this music. We will first look on the basic elements of the Finnish pronunciation and this will help you understand how and wife in his pronunciation works as it as it works. This is too help you delay the foundation to your pronounce ace and ultimately your speaking skills. Secondly, we will learn all the levels in Finnish. There are eight of them and we will go through each of them individually and practice them on it on their own and also with example words. Thirdly, we will cover that beef tongue. So difference are this way. We could just say they are this wobble pairs, which consists of two separate roubles and they are in the same syllable in finish. We have lot off def tongues and they are very frequent. So it's also important to know how to pronounce this difference when you meet them or when you run into them on at the end we will recap this court. And in the future, I'm also planning to do our separate course on continents Su liberalisation stressing another extra stuff that will help you to pronounce you finish like a bus. All right. Good stuff. So now we know what we will be learning in this course. And in the next video, let's start learning with the basic characteristics. See you there.
3. Basic Characteristics of Finnish Pronunciation: what a people. Welcome to a new video. In this video we will go true the basic characteristics off in its pronunciation. And this is really important to know on it will make things easier for you to tow. Understand the big picture. First of all, the finished alphabet has 29 letters. It's actually the same alphabet as in English, which is 26. But we have three additional letters on this letter records. This really spoke. People practice the individual sounds off all of these letters in this cost on like in many other languages. Finnish consists off wobbles and continents and as you can see, some off this continents are actually used only in words from four ng language chase such as Bargnani. But because they are so many words from other languages used and finish, they are still quite normal in everyday language. In Finnish, we have both short wobbles on long levels. Fraction will be after bubble are and the short sound for this well is, uh and the longer sound is Ah ah, We will practice all of this when we get to the bubbles. The bubbles also categorized into front levels and back wobbles. So how we can tell which is front and which is back. Well, basically, this is determined by what is the highest point off your tongue when you're except pronouncing that robber. This is not that important to know when you're actually practicing, but this will be more important when you are actually learning more grammar and that that comes down to the level harmony. Basically, bubble Harmony says that in a Finnish word, they can be only front wobbles or back Volvos in one word. We're not focusing on that that much on this course, because it's not really the part of this course. But once we get to that point, I will teach you quickly everything you need to know about that. Then we have also def tongues. While that's a difficult pronouncing it right, def tongues. Basically, it's a syllable consisting of two different bubbles. For example, I or on E, which means becomes I or we have, for example, oy, which is the world's oh and I. We will also practice the's in this course. Then we have continents, and constants are basically the rest off the alphabet. Excluding bubbles. Constants also have short and long sounds. For example, if I say Julie, Julie, this means fire. But if I say Julie like with this double constant L, this means customs, and it works kind of the same way. The short one is marked with one letter and a long one with two letters. We will also practice thes once we get to that point, Now comes probably the best part off the finish pronounces, and it's completely phonetic, almost. And and this means basically, that one letter has only one sound. And this makes things very easy and finish like. For example, if we look at look at English, for example, the letter O can have almost like 10 different pronunciations. Okay, let's just a quick example. For example, if we have to Bert Online on outside, you see how the oh, the letter O is pronounced differently. But in Finnish, we don't have to worry about this at all, because one single letter has always the same sound. What can be different, though, that it could be the short or the long one? That is really easy to distinguish because the short sound is always one letter, and the long one is with two letters. So things are very simple and straightforward in finished, thank God, because finishes so difficult language. Otherwise, they are few minor exceptions to this rules. Very few were if you and I will also go over those once we get to that point. Another thing, which makes Finnish quite easy, is the stressing. Basically stressing is the emphasis on the word, and in Finnish it's always on this first syllable. Let me give an example. I will read you a finished sentence. I will mark the stress ings with bigger or bold letters. Boy, down on my proposal formalizes the anta means is that your parents were quick and it hasn't Arrese that yet. All right, so you're secrecy. The dressing is always on the first syllable, and that's it. Basically, if you just know this rule, you can do like 71 97% correctly spoken. Finish If you always dress the beginning, beginning or the first syllable off the word. I will talk about this dressing and syllables later on on this course. Also, let's take a quick example from English, For example, we have the bird, desert and desert, as you can see in the desert, which means like Sahara Desert, for example. The stress is in the beginning. Dessert. Doofy. Have dessert we actually stress, or the middle part of the word and not the beginning. But in Finnish, we always stress the main stress. The primary stress is always on the first syllable, and that's it. Very, very straightforward and very, very simple. But how do you know What's the first syllable? Well, don't worry, because I will teach you that later on on this course. That also means that finish has no pitching or pitch accent. For example, If you make a question in Inglis like you could say our your free today, are you afraid? Today you kind of make their how you raise the pitch at the end when you're making a question, but in Finnish, we don't really do it. Let me give you another example. If I say Montana Baba Montana Papa, I'm free today. But if I was asking, Are you free today? See, I made the pitch again there in English works. Isn't that what Bob Oxidant about Bottle Austin of up See, Even if it's a question, we don't do that pitch at the end, and even if you needing this and in many other languages, there can be this pitching. But in Finnish, we don't really do that on again. It's another thing that makes things a little bit easier for us. Thank God. And also one thing. What is kind of interesting? This was actually quite new to me or or this was like a thing that I didn't realize while I was making discourse. But on that is and finish. We have no aspiration on what this espresso mean in terms of pronunciation. While it's really easy, it's this puff off air when we are speaking, let's take the word truck in English truck Well, and it's like the big glory and stuff. If you put your palm in front of your mouth just pronounced of our truck truck, truck truck, you should feel like a small puff off air on your fingers truck and this aspiration in English. That's actually quite a lot of aspiration, but in finish we have basically no express. For example, if we take the bird lock locked, if this means a cap in Finnish. But many people with who have like a native English, they might pronounce this word lucky, lucky, lucky. And you see, that's the expression lucky and then finished. We have no expression. Lucky look. I can feel any air on my fingers. Lucky, lucky. And this is quite interesting to know all the kind when we have aspirations words with which have the letter age for example Hostel, which means funny, hostile Haas so HASA. But it's still quite weak on the fingers, so it just remember no aspiration. Alright, recovered quite a bit off interesting aspects of the Finnish pronunciation and I also hope it makes it easier for year to understand the finish pronounce station. Now that we've covered all the basics, we can actually start. Get into the pronunciation. We will start with the bubbles in the next video. See you there.
4. Vowels Intro: What's the people in this video? We will start covering the bubbles on before we jump into the things. Let's actually look how level Slocan finished. All right. And finish. We have eight. Bubbles are a Okay. Mm. Uh Ah. Okay, So these other bubbles eight bubbles. And like we already covered in the intro section, all of the bubbles have short on long sounds. Let's start to learn or first bubbles in the next video. See you there.
5. Back Vowel A: All right, let's start with the back of bubbles. And these are, uh yeah and all. And the reason why these are called back foes is because when we pronounce the's the highest part or for tongue is at the back of your mouth. All right, let's start with the wobble. Our first and the sound off our is kind off. Like father Father in. I think it's in British English, Father, that's quite close to the English equivalent. Off are in Finnish. Let's practice the short sound First. Short sound is, uh uh Oh, it sounds kind of funny when I'm making this. Uh uh, like I'm like, I'm having some trouble there. Uh, uh huh. Yeah, let's take a few example. Words. Fractional. My name. All exit. All exit. All exit. Another one out. This means a car and finish. Now we can make a sentence out of this. I'll exit a lot on auto. All excellent, own out. All right, that's it. That's the short sound off. Let's practice the long one on. It's the same sound which is prolonged. Very simple. Ah, ah ah! And that's it. For example, Otto. Uh uh. Always a finish. Guys. name or Marla? Marla Ma, this means the paint and finish. So now we can say our Tamala. Ah, ma la Are you is painting all right? So quite straightforward. So just remember, the short sound is, uh and the long one is Ah. Ah. Like I said in the beginning of this course finishes the phonetic language. So there is no other pronunciations for actually, all of these letters, except the only one they have on this also applies the rebels, or is the only pronunciations that they let their Oh, good, huh? All right. Good shop on this one. See you in the next video.
6. Vowel A exercises: What's up, guys? Welcome to a new video. Know that we learned or first trouble. Let's practice it. And let's especially focus on the short and the long bubbles. Because you finish, you can sometimes run into a situation where the meaning off the bird will change depending if you use the short or the long level. So it's actually quite important. Also distinguish them. But also when you're pronouncing it yourself to use their correct length off revival in order to say the word that you want, it doesn't happen that often, but let's say every once in a while you might run into this kind off word pairs and what people do. I first show you some examples and then your choppers to tell or guests if it's either short or a long one. So you actually get some listening practice with this and also try to pronounce this while we are going true. This so you can actually use them yourself because I can't give any personal feed, but because I'm not there with you. So it's important to practice on your own. For example, Gardez, Gardy, Carly Qarase, Unfinished guy's name. But if I say God Gadi got a card? It means kind of like an ark. So it's important. If you say Gadi, it's a guy's name. But if I say God, then it's a finished then it's arc. So it's important to distinguish these examples one more time. Gadi God! Scotty! God got it! God, can you distinguish them? Good! Another one! Sorry, sorry, sorry, sorry. Issa, finish girl's name. But if I say sorry Sorry, sorry. This means an island. Sorry, we long level so short is sorry. Sorry, sorry, sorry, sorry, Sorry. All right, Another one. I'll see you, Arcia. I'll see you. Arcia means come like a thing or item. But if I say Ah CIA Oh CIA oh CIA Asia So that you know that continent where Japan, China and these such similar countries exist. So Arcia Ah, CIA Arcia! Oh, I see a Garcia Ah, CIA. All right. And the soldiers of examples that can happen. Like I said, it's not that common, if you ask me, But you can definitely ran round into these and encountered these Let's say every once in a while, so it's important to keep in mind. Good job, guys. Now, in the next video, let's do a smaller listening exercise with the verge we just learned. See you there
7. Vowel A Listening Exercises: All right, let's practice with the double R. I will say this words that we just practiced. And your job is to tell if it's either the short, our or long are. If you can tell what is the word or what does it mean? That's not the point of this exercise. Just try to listen and see if you can distinguish the short or the long are. That's all you need to do. Cardi. Gadi! Got it. Sorry, sorry. Saudi Awesome! Awesome! Austria! Gadi! Gadi! Got it! Arcia! Arcia! I'll see you. Saudi! Sorry. Sorry, Gadi. Got it. Got it! God! God! God! All right. Good stuff. How was this one? If this was a little bit too difficult if you felt I was speaking too fast, you can actually watch this lesson again And usedto slow down. Function off the video player if you want me to space lower. So that's something you can do as well. Thanks for checking out this video. See, in the next month
8. Back Vowel O: not if we learned the first trouble. Let's move on the 2nd 1 we have to double or a or oh, in English, born and finish, it's all on. The pronunciation is kind off, like in the English word cord core ward cord without the sound would scored or the short sound is look. Oh, and a long one is the same one which is prolonged, Uh, or let's take a few example words. So we can practice this, for example. Look. Oh, what toys the finished guy's name. Order, order, order! This means to wait and finish. Look, corner, you'll go now. This means outside. Now we can say what order? Logan The order work toys waiting outside. So that is the short sound. Quite straightforward. What about the long one? For example, in Spokane. Finished this? Actually, Good word you can say or core. You go a que this means okay. Or call or orc. Oh, look, this means you are in spoken finish or and if we say or core or core what? Oh, go Or or core? This means Are you okay in Spokane? Finished. That's actually good phrase. You can use it in many situations on. That is the letter o So the short soundest Oh, on the long one is or ah. All right. Good stuff. Thanks for checking out this video. See, in the next
9. Vowel O Practice: All right, let's take more examples with the bubble or and then do the same exercise as previously ball normal Bulow bullets kind like a poor like poor you or poor Alexis. It's kind of like a noun, but if I say ball or ball, Fuller ball is this, I think is polo there. You know, the sports that you play on horse backs. It's kind of Yeah, this kind of sport. Bottle, ball, bottle, ball, bottle ball following dial on Star Lord, it's the genital form off the word house, which is Stahl Oh, doll O Donnell. But if I say that our lawn, my lord darl on this means in the house. So I think this is a relative case and this means can like in the house dialogue Star Lord Dialogue our Lord Dialogue Star Lord, Next one VC on V. C on V c. On again. This is a generative form off Herbert V zero, which means region. So we shouldn't would be bcm. And if I say we see on V C on, we see Oh, this means we're going into vision V C on V c on v c on v c on v C on V c. On again. Let's practice. I will say these words that we just covered randomly tried to distinguish If it's either short or long. Let's right. Born boom ball of V C On If you see on V C on Dahlan Doll on darling V C on V C on v c Own formal Mullah Bowler Doll on along Star Lord Boom Born ball. All right, good stuff. How was this one? How many did you get? Correct. Again. We practice one wobble, and in the next one, let's take a new one in practice. Did one see you there?
10. Back Vowel U: welcome to a new video. And today we will learn to turd and the last one off the back wobbles. And that is who Mm. Who? And this is kind of the same sound as that letter you in the word Full, full, full fool. All right. And the short sound for this level is Oh, and the long one is Let's take some words in practice wound one twice a finish. Guys name we we we This means swims in third person were saying you say or saying we're saying means often and if we say won't we will say we say on the way or saying, Oh, Ndoye swimming often or owned the swims often. All right, Next the long wobble Warship, Warship, warship. This means new. But if we say cools it cool. Course it. This could mean the number six or a spruce type of tree. Then we could say may loan Warsi courses may lower watercourses maillot on watercourses. We have a new Spruce Street. Nice. So the short one is And the long oneness. Mm. All right. Good shop on this one. See you in the next video.
11. Vowel U Exercises: All right. Next. Let's practice the bubble. Warning. Warning. Warning. This means sleep or dream or order a warning. This means over owning or warning, Warning, warning or All right, this next one I'm always using in my lessons. Usually, Julie Dooley. Slowly, this means fire. Or it can also mean came in third person singular past. But if I say Julie Dooley stoolie, this means wind Dooley Dooley fully to live. Okay, this next one is plenty. Coursey, Dorsey Coursey This means piss. Yeah, you know, kind of like a slang slang word. But if you say cool, see schools course it. This means number six course it cools him. Coursey who are saying Go see Cool. Okay, good stuff. One more borough. Border border borough means this kind like a very small kind of like a stream. But if I say pool water bouhlel four. This means porridge. People border, border four border boredom. Good stuff. OK, and now let's practice this Julie Julie Dooley warning only or name course it cools. It cools it. Stooling stoolie Dolly. Border border, border warning. Morning warning. Cool it. Dulip stole it. Okay. All right. Good stuff. Guys. With this one in the next one will take a new level and practice that one. See you there
12. Front Vowel Ä: good stuff, guys. We've learned Tree of the rubbles and those where the back walls And today we will cover the front wobbles. And why this accord front levels is the reason because the highest part off the tongue is in front. We will actually look more into this once we've learned all the levels. Let's take the first wobble under is still enter. Ah, on this is the one with a with the dots. This is not in the English alphabet, so this might first look a bit weird and stuff, but actually it's quite straightforward. And we actually have the same sound in the English. For example hat, hat, hat, debt, hat. It's actually the same sound. The short zone off acts or the short sound is. But And the long one is uh ah ah! Let's practice. Let's take a few words in the Finnish, for example, I d I think I see this means mother in Finnish or damage Diamond done that diamond This It means this we can say tomorrow night the amount I didn't damn it on a D. Nick, this is my mom. What about the long one? If we say, uh, the law. This means here Or if we say Aaliyah. Ah, Leo earlier. This means like kind Like, um or on douche back Something like this. Dallaglio cool earlier. Dial it on your cool earlier that on New York earlier this one Jewish back over here, something like this is all right. I might look a little bit weird, but it's actually quite simple. Remember, uh is the sort sewed and, uh uh, your friend is coming from the bar at four p at 4 a.m. And like something like that, Really straightforward, uh, is the sword one and, uh, is that long? One good job, guys. Now, in the next video, let's do a smaller listening exercise with the verge we just learned. See you there.
13. Vowel Ä Exercises: in this video. Let's take the bubble. Let's see some examples vary Varying. Very This is the generative form off the bird, Barry, which means caller. So wearing means colors or off color something. But if I say value batting Vadym, this means wrong or incorrect. Varied batting vary batting very that in I met that I met that Matt. That this means rotten like rotten meat. Rotten fish. But if I say met there, I met there. Matt there. This is the part of the form off the word matter. So if I could be if I say so in Mata Carla, like I age rotten fish we're not focusing on part of give or any other discredit grammatical structures. But it's just good to know that Mata is kind of the basic form. And Matt there is departed for You don't need to know what they do in this cloak course. That's business for another course. Met that. Met there, Met that Met there. Met that Matt there. Same stuff. Flexible. A pilot, Deborah It by Deborah a pilot. This means suspicious. And again if I say a pilot, a pilot, a pilot, ever this is parted form off the world. Palatable it by Deborah A. Pilot It by a pilot If I a pilot. Okay, again, let's practice. Try to figure it out If it's short, uh, or like or the long level in the ones I say that in Vadym Varian met. Met that Matt. That very Vatican. Very a pilot. Deborah, if I a pilot matter. Met that Matt. That a pilot? A pilot. A pilot that in batting that in? Okay, good stuff. Thanks for checking out for this. Listen, and we'll see the next video.
14. Front Vowel Ö: All right, let's take the next front level. And that is, uh, on. This is the conflict with the dots, another one that is not found in English. But actually, there's a few words that have quite similar pronunciation. Fraction with the bird Earth Earth has actually were similar as to finish her sound with short sound is but And I just realized this is pretty much exactly the same as the indefinite article in English facsimile car. So is the sound is exactly the same as that. A sound in the indefinite article and a long one is just the same, but prolonged. Ah, ah! Uh, let's take a few Finnish words again. Yeah, yeah, This means night. Who? Getty. Oh, goody. Oh, goody. This means kind of like a hooligan on early. You early you earlier This means spoiled Uh uh, The don't raise the suburb in Helsinki, the capital of Finland, and this is actually quite a tough one to come up with. Another example. So I can just say, Keeley, I keep the ein we're Keary on. This means the letter, for example, if I say us on the list also on the list, I live in daily. All right. Good stuff, guys. In the next video, we will take mawr examples with bubble. I'm practices. See you there.
15. Vowel Ö Exercises: Okay, let's take a few examples off that Bob on, and I couldn't actually find very easy examples or, let's say, wary everyday examples off this one. So it might be that you don't encounter any difficult situations with this wobble, but I still found a few examples, and we can practice with Saturday Saturday satyr. Several means kind of like a crack. But if I say Saturday, Satre and Saturn and again this is the relative case. I think it's the relative case off the word Sattar. So actually, in this one, the meaning doesn't really change. But the case changes Saturday Sabir and Satyr Satre and Saturday Sabir. And on another similar example Harre, Hatter, Hatter. And have her and I had ah, had her. It's just the emotive case off Hatter. So again, the meaning is the same. But the case changes like Hatter. I had ah Hatter. I had Ah, Hatter. I had Ah. Okay, let's just practice with these four words. Had a had a had a satyr satyr, satyr, Saturn, Saturn Saturday had a hatter, had a Saturn. Saturn had it had her. I had, uh, Harun had a satyr satyr Saturday. Okay,
16. Front Vowel Y: All right. The last front wobbled. This can be actually bit difficult. But don't worry, we will practice this. And this is, um Do you know this the letter? Why, this could be a little tricky, but there's a good tip that you can try. If you have trouble pronouncing this one, you can prepare your mouth to pronounce the that the e sound off hit hit Like we actually haven't practiced this sound yet But they like it hit And then you just make your lips round on bread You Ooh ooh Who tried yourself and see if it works? I think it's actually gets pretty close. So once again you try to say they hit e he hit and then you make your lips around Indem braid Ah ah You okay? Yeah, it's actually things could be a little tricky, but I mean, you just need to practice it. You can cry the tip on little by little if you don't get any of thes sounds right away Don't don't get discouraged because you will eventually learn it When you keep practicing their keep listening How the Finnish people say a little by little, you will get there I'm sure of it. Short One is long. When this Who? Okay, let's take a few example for its For example, we set afterward during Buddha. Um Buddha Room. Good. This means circle and finished. Or if we say you sick look sick. Look sick. This means a unit. That's the short one. If we take for example long one we can say Do this. Do this to do this. This means expensive and finish on. If we say do this room Buddha, do this spoon Buddha. This means expensive circle. That doesn't make much sense. But that's not the point of this one. The point is that you will get the practice. That sounds short. One is long when this who? All right. Remember the trick I taught in this video. If you have trouble getting there, you sound at the beginning. So good stuff on. I will see you in the next video. See you there
17. Vowel Y Exercises: All right. Next. One way. Practiced to let their do. Okay, let's take example Words for what we have. Who who? Look Hoon Onda Who? Loon. Who lived her moon again? It's the same stuff as we had with the letter. Or so hula means shelf on whom means in the shelf. But yeah, who look her noon. Who? Look who learned all right. A similar example. I think you will remember this one. Does this kind of funny boo burn burn? This means but kind of kind of very neutral word for but And again, if I say Blue burn learned Borloo nits like in the But okay, don't make any naughty pictures there. But for example, if a support group regulars like kicking the ass or kick in the butt so burn burn learned burn, burn learned. Burn Borloo. This is a good one. Rip Rip Bay. Ever. This means a wrinkle like something that you will get on your skin when you get older. But if I say rue, true, but true. But there's gonna be a little difficult. That's a lot of confidence, which we haven't practiced. But that's OK. Rupe remains kind of like a sip. If you're like drinking and you want to get like us like a shot or like a safe or something , then you could say like Group Rip Bay. True, but Rip Bay Brew but Rip Bay Brew. But all right, let's practice this one. Not with the same format. I'll say these tried to figure out if it's either the short or the long do with in the world. All right, Burn burn. True, but really true. But who? Loon Who blew? Who knew? All right, rip for who will it who look her the Blue burn. But, uh, all right, all right. That's good stuff. We've just learned both the back levels are all and also the back. Rebels on way have also the neutral levels, which we will cover in the next videos. See you there.
18. Neutral Vowel E: What's up, guys? Welcome to a new video. So to David will cover that neutral levels which are air. Yeah, and e. Okay, all right. And the reason why these are called the neutral or middle level system. The highest part of the tongue is in the middle. Off your amounts or in the front is in the front and the back it's in the back, but in the middle it's not. It's some. It's somewhere in the between. Let's start with E first or a and this is where a similar asked the e sound in the English word hen Hend. And actually, I think it's exactly the same. So let's jump in the Finnish words it this it this it is. This means in front, off or in front. Another one. Eric Better g. Get it, Eric. It's a finished guy's name. We can also say Eddie Coin and it a coin and it recording it. This means kind of like peculiar, peculiar or kind of like special. We can say, Eric, you own it. A coin and attic own Eddie. According etiquette on a recording. Eric Case conduct special or peculiar, depending on the context like this good job, guys. Now, in the next video, let's do a smaller listening exercise with the verge we just learn. See you there.
19. Vowel E Exercises: it'll it'll it'll It can actually means quite a lot of things. It could be either a divorce or it can be separation. Or it could also mean gap in some cases. But if I say Airil, it'll it'll Yeah, towards the finish Guy's name again. All right, let's compare era it'll you know. You know it'll you know. All right there. Day day. If you've been taking my previous course basics of spoken finish, you probably know that this means you in plural. But if I say day, okay, they this misty day, the day they one more at the it it. And who can help? You have quite a few means it could be like a benefit or advantage on air it It it was again a finished guy's name it to Yeah, at it. All right. If you felt rule the trouble with this, you can watch this lesson again and you can actually use to slow down function on the player to make me speak a little bit slower If you want to practice this again Aargh! It'll you know it. Day they the edl, you know, enter a and the it day they they metal it'll, you know. Okay, good stuff. Just a quick reminder. Again. The bubbles have always either short or long one. No other pronunciations. Unless you can see, we sometimes might have these cases where the meaning can actually change completely, whether it's either short or a long wobble. Like I said, it's not that common. But sometimes you might and Conradi. So that's why it's important. Good stuff on this video, see in the next one.
20. Neutral Vowel I: on, Let's take the E also right away. This would be quite simple. We have re actually practice it in the previous one with bird hit hit to say hit or feet feet that it so the shortest. Let's take a few examples. Alona, Alona, Alona, This means this is a girl's name Finished girl's name we can say also in Nukus, in Lucas, in Lucas in the castmates collect excited alone our own in Nagase Alona on in Nagase Alona on in All right And the big the big one Long one is for example g Kar it. You got it? He got it. This is me This is binoculars, Binoculars We have also league What? Lee Lee leaked what this means to move. And if we say leak What g Kar it Lee Cho What g Kar it Really What? He got it? This means like moving binoculars kind of funny. All right, so the short one is he on the blown oneness e This should be quite straightforward. Thanks for checking out this video. See in the next one
21. Vowel I Exercises: now let's practice. Motiva will e and focus on the short and the long sound ceqa Ceqa Sica si com means a pig like you know this this kind of animal. But if I say ce ca see, see Sika is a type of face. I will put it here in a text because I cannot come up with the English word now. But it's like a type of fish. Basically. Ceqa see ceqa See ceqa See, next one is dealing Dele Dele. This means on account, for example, If I say punk Italy, that would be a bank account. But if I say dele dearly, Dele, this means a break. Let's compare daily Dele dealing Dele really dealing all right. Next example Lima Lima Lima Mommy is gonna look a slide. But if I say Lima Lima, Lima, Lima means glow Lima Lima Nema Lima All right, Next one Sina Sina Sina Seeing that means you. But if I say scene seen seen seeing a means kind off like there. Sina seen Sina seen Sina seen. Okay, Now let's practice these ones. I will randomly say the ones that we just practiced And your chop is to guess if It's either long bubble or short trouble. If you can tell what the word is, that's OK. But just try to focus on the bubble itself because that should be quite easy to pick up from this work. See ce ca ce ca dele daily daily. See? You know. See now see? You know Lima Lima Lima Dele Dele Deal If Zika Zika Zika Sina Seen that? Seen that Dele daily dearly. Lima, Lima Lima. All right, good job. All right. On that being said, we've learned all the eight bubbles, both the short ones on the long ones. And like I said, all these rebels have only the short and long ones and that's it. No other pronunciation exist for these letters, and that's pretty cool. We learned one part of the Finnish pronounce station already, which is pretty cool. And in the next video, I will tell you a little bit of more about this front and back wobbles now that we've actually learned them. See you there
22. Vowel Harmony Explained: What a glass. Welcome to a new video. So today let's talk a little bit more about the front and the back wobbles. Why? Why? They're called from the back close. We already learned that the front rebels have the highest part of the thong in the front of them Out and in the back wall walls. The highest point is at the back off the mark. And for example, let's take the wobbles are and air re practice. This so are, uh and try to alternate between these letters. Let's stop it. Ah, and then the other ones off course, I try to alternate between this Uh ah. Uh ah, uh, do you see what's happening in your mouth? Ah, ah ah! The highest part off your tongue is moving because aw, it's a back trouble and it's a front over. So when you're saying your highest part off the Congress orbit in the front and ah, it's in the back and the thing is that because in finished we have bubble harmony and this means like we always said in the earlier in discourse that finish words can only have eat their front levels or back troubles and What about the neutral wobbles we had also the A and E and thesis neutral wobbles or middle wobbles? Also? Well, this means that a and E can be actually with either front wobbles or back levels. But front and back levels cannot be in one word. Where, if it's a complete Finnish word, let me to summarize it for you. A Finnish word can only contain front levels or back levels. They can never be together in one word. Neutral levels of the middle levels can always be with either front levels or back Wells. Let's just take a few words to make it more easier for you to understand. Barbara Starr Wara Store War us. This word has only backward. Waas are on or are in Maine, and I remaining. This means kind of extreme. On this, you can see we have, which is a front wobble. And then we have E, which is a neutral love or the middle level so these can be together. But we have no back wobbles here. There's no uh, there's no orders, No, for example, we have the word all realize that which means that all of the games and this is interesting because this is alone worth. This is or not an original off Finnish word on this actually breaks the wobble harmony. And if I tried to say or move, realize it, it kind of makes my fun mouth called like roller coaster because I have to put both front and back levels in the same olu realize it all. You realize it. That is interesting because some of these lone verse off course have their own kind of structures and bubbles, and some of them are kind of imported in the finish. Andi, they just happen to break the bubble harmony, and we just have to live with it. But all the Finnish origin words are always obeying the global harmony. There's more. There's more. If we have compound words, it finished. We have a lot of compound words on where in English. There's not if we think the bird table drawer, and as far as I know, it's separated with the space table drawer. But in finish, its boat alley pasta, totally pasta, and many of these words are usually written us one word for you. In the beginning, we have both that we have ER and move itself front levels. But we had Then we have Lee Pasto and this has back wobbles like all on Middle Wells E. So what's happening here? Well, the thing is that actually these words this word is consisting off two separate words and lee pasta which are just put together into one where that this is the thing. If we have a compound word which consists of two different words, then we can actually have them together. But the reason is that they are still not breaking the level harmony because they they are just consisting off two separate words which are obeying the global harmony. So but this can be a little tricky for you when you are learning, because at the beginning it might be not so easy to distinguish this compound words and the stare a silver bullet. How can you actually learn to distinguished, which are compound words and which are not? Well, That's just comes with the time when you keep learning more vocabulary, keep spending more time, it finish. You will start to learn this naturally, because when you learn more words, you will start to recognize them in compound words and you will also slowly understand and developing ability to figure out global harmony as well. So don't get discouraged if this is something that you don't understand right now because you just need to practice and you need to let it come to you. Little by little, you will learn this. This is one of the things that you will learn eventually when you just keep studying and keep learning. Believe me. All right. Now we've actually learned all the basic stuff we need to know about levels. And in the next section we will learn. Def tongues. See you there.
23. Diphthongs Intro: wasn't guys. Welcome to a new video. Now we start the final section off this part one, and that will be def trunks when, according to Google definitions, let me just rated a DefCon Issa sound formed by two combination of two bubbles in a single syllable in which the sound begins a swan rubble and moves towards the on another. So basically, it's just the sound consist off to different wallows, and those are actually quite frequent in finish. What is especially important with the dif tongues is that they often a cure on the first syllable or at the beginning off the word, which means that we have to stress them. They can also appears in the middle or in the at the end of the world, but not this often, and then finished. There are 18 different wants, and you can see them on the screen now, and we will practice each of these individually and with example words on again. These are only pronounced one way every time, so we are really consistent with difference as well. All right, in the next video, let's take three of those stiff tongues on. Let's start practice them, see that
24. Diphthongs AI: All right. Welcome to any listen, let's take or first tree dif dunks I a on Oy. Let's start with by So, as you can see, it consists of two different levels are and e. And we said, I I on What I want you to notice here is that we have started the r sound off course because it's the 1st 1 And then we ended with the East sound, but we don't make any breaks. For example, I'm not saying r e our request, and I would be saying just to individual sounds, but instead I started there are on it kind of slides into the e sound I I I came to see it because that's how these Steve trunks work. All right, all right. Now let's take a few example words with this and practice with real work in this one. We haven't practiced the Sioux liberalisation it, but in this case I'm going to write out the syllables so you can see how the stressing works. But you don't have to know how the syllables really work here, and I also put the stress with bold letters. Let's write first. Well, let's take what I you know? I know. I know are You know, see how I'm stressing that I Because it's the first syllable. So I stress it. And in this case, the first syllable happens also to be the gift on. Oh, you know, are you? I know, I know. You know, This is a finished girl's name, by the way. Next, let's take China, you know? You know I know, I know, I know. I'm a means always. So you This is a good word. Two years. And you can also practise this different with this one. I know. All right. Next one. Ah, yeah. Oh, yeah. Yeah. This is like, Oh, I see this is doesn't really have a translation, but this Houston spoke allies like, uh, OK, if someone is telling you something and you cannot Okay, I see. Like, I, uh okay, I Okay, I, uh I Yeah, another way. My year, my year. Maya, My Yeah, my Yeah, my Yet my eyesight finish girl's name again on this case. The first syllable consists of three letters. My and the first syllable also has includes that syllable I death. Also, this m, um, sound in the beginning. So my my yeah, my yuck! By that fight, bite by the by. The by bite by them is a shirt and same stuff. It's before there's also the seal at their social def tongue, but also another continent there by the by the all right and the good thing. Good news is with Deftones. You will practice thesis all the time when you learn a new word, and it's also important to listen to the native pronunciation when you lean, learned the word so you can actually do distressing correctly. But like I said, first syllable has the stress on pretty much rest. Usually don't. We will talk about dressing a syllable syllable later. So did focuses on the difference. Good stuff on this one. See in the next.
25. Diphthongs EI: Okay, let's take this next one. A a Hey, again. I started a and then I slide it into the east sound A A A A, by the way means snow. So you will be actually producing this one quite often. A Hey. Hey. All right, let's break this a with example words. You know You know, you know, a No. A No. A. No. A same stuff. A nice finish, guys. Name another one. Male, male, male, male, male lack male cake. Okay, God. Gait. Go. Okay. Got gate. Okay. Go get us a good word. It means like a gig, for example. Concert gig. Okay, Got on. Now, this is a good word, because the first syllable consists of four letters, and it has one letter before the Deftones and one after gate. Okay, Date stayed data day that they that day that this is you in part of the form for. So this is basic for Mr Conjugated in the part of the data. Okay. And what is important here? Just focus on the def tongues. If distressing and syllables feel a bit too complicated, then just in northern completely and just practice there Pronunciation, Assam, teaching it. Do you good stuff on this one? See? In the next
26. Diphthongs OI: and the 3rd 1 is Oy, boy again. I don't say or e I say, boy, oy, oy. Okay, now let's take a few example Words with this and practice with real words week or week or week. Or boy, Go boy. Go, boy. Go. All requests kind of like to take a short cut. And actually, this this word has trees, syllables, Deutsche story Do it. But boy talk, don only what Don Oy thought things little bit difficult one this kind of tooting, like if you're talking something on the horn and sending like a loud message somewhere like on a megaphone, for example, that could be toyed off. This next one is good. So it sweet. So it so it uh So I thought so. I thought this means to call or to play something. All right, So now we practiced trio for first def tongues on. We will co true all the rest of them. So we could to practice all of them a little bit. And like I said, let's just for keep the focus on the Deftones. Try to make sure you get the pronunciation right, and you later on, we will pick up the syllable ization aan de stressing in the future videos. Good stuff on this one. See? In the next
27. Diphthongs UI & ÄI: Okay, let's take the next day. If Tung's let's start for the week, the different on itself, it's just we we we Warren we again that you or sounds slides into the sound we let's Exxon example works. We'd, uh, We'd we don, we don't We don't. We don't. This means to swim. Swing? All right. Next one. Who yet we have we have Who? Yeah. Who? We? Yeah, this Mr Cheat or to trick? Do we kata? We gotta do We gotta do we go. Do we got that? Let's take the next different I I I I Ah All right, let's take a few words. Nine, nine Nade This one can be extra. Just set us one Cilla. Black name. This means I saw they there. They there by their right there. Right. Die right there. Okay. Vitalize to claim or to argue by you. Value by you by back by by this means day. Really useful word here. All right, good stuff. We learn to more difference on my advice to you how to learn this. The best is just to keep learning more birds. And also, when you learn those new words put focus on their correct pronunciation and you will learn this in no time because you will be pronouncing and stressing all the time when you are speaking Finnish. Good job with this lesson, see in the next.
28. Diphthongs ÖI AU: What's up, guys? Welcome to a new video. Let's take two more defunct. First we have Hurry, Hurry. Ah e had some of these guys quite funny. Okay, A few example Words. Worried that Berita. Very dark. Very This means like good night in a very spoken finish. Right there, Lloyd Learning Line. Do it. This means work in part it if plural next one. Harris Oh, oh, oh, oh! Uh oh! All right. OTA Alda! OTA. Oh, the oh, the How the this means Help me or help as an imperative out Powell towel. Cool. How? Look go. No. Wow. Look, the hollow means I think it's like a painting or a pork rate. Good bills a towel. Next. When we have is now. Okay, Doc, though. Okay. Okay. It's kind of It's a spoken word for, like, a dumb person like dummy, I guess. All right. To def tongues down again. Good job with this one. See? In the next one
29. Diphthongs EU IU: Alright guys, let's take two more Def Trunks Ale And you Let's start with l ale. Hey ale Ah ah a okay for come l rope They were up, but l drop but ill drop. But they'll drop. 31. Diphthongs ÖY IY: Okay, Two more difference on this one. First we have his Oh, Oh, Uh ah ah! Words. Go, go, go! Gay hat. Go ahead. Go have poor boot. Boat, boat boot That boat. That boat, that table. Who let them? Who let that who letter who like that. Who left her? That next one we have this year and you is a little bit special because it often appears. So where else? Stand in the beginning. Off the word. Let's practice it in a in a bit. Here. You You A year you example Words cease. Do you do? Seized the U two sees you do it ces Do you do, uh, ces to you too. That sees, do you do? Unless you can see now it's somewhere else than in the beginning. Off the word, another one Better you do it better. You do that better. You do that bay Do you do all right? Bay? Do you do so? Nothing has changed. It's just the place off. The different is different. And remember the same stressing rules are still there. Stress in the first syllable and that's it. Good stuff. We have three more difference left. Let's take them all in the next video. See you there
32. Diphthongs EY & YI: What up, guys? Welcome to the new video. Let's take two more dif tongues in this video. First of all, we have you here A and and A, and this is also one of those thief tongues that do not usually appear in the beginning. Off the world would more likely in the middle or even at the end of end off the word. Let's take a few examples there. Ramo's there arose. They're rebels there bears. They're bears. They're very This means health. Another one best do best. So best so do bear. So do they're so do they're So do this means to wash yourself or tow us oneself. Actually, the next one we have this very hurry. E e Marie. Let's take some examples. For example, Assassin, do we Sask Dewey Sask three sas Do sas doing SAS? Do it. But there's actually a little bit difficult to translate Albert The translates into discrete next one is Louis. You luring you? No, you movie. You, Louis, You, Lou, you and this means let. And as you can see, in the previous example, defcon was placed at the end off the word. But in this one, it's actually again in the beginning, so you can see sometimes you can find some def tongues pretty much everywhere in the world . But like I said, most of the time they appear in the beginning. And one more. Hurry, Hurry, hurry, hurry, hurry. Who is this Miss like you or yuck! There's actually quite useful word. You might find this useful later on. All right, Good stuff. We learned to more dif tongues and in the next one will take a few more. See you that.
33. Diphthongs IE UO YÖ: Okay, We have three more different left. First fall is yet yet? Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, the at that de it there. Do you get that? The that, dear that to know. Meus. Meus? Yes. Meus. Yes, Dia. Yeah, Dear! Dear, dear. Okay, next one, we have a war. What war? War, for example. Quarrel! Go look cool. Look Cool. Look Cool. Look Cool. Look, this means dead. You order you. Would you order? You're your duck. You're done to drink for a walk for a walk for a walk, Roll rule rule food and last different. We have this right. Ah! Ah! Who? This sounds like your puke ing Sunday Doing that. Do earned there doing that doing that. Do you end that to push? Sure. Food? Sure, sure. Uh Death. Sure that sure to eat Lourdes. Lourdes This means to punch or hit. Okay, Good stuff. We've gone through all the dif tongues. Good job. And in the next one I will share a few extra details about this difference. See you there
34. Diphthongs Extra: all right. Good job, guys. We've gone through all the Deftones again. I don't want you to get discouraged over these because these difference happen all the time . Almost every new word you will learn has a different. So you will be practicing these naturally a lot. So you don't really have to worry about if these things were a little bit too difficult for you. I just also want to point out there, for example, these type of double wobbles such as I or they'll or all police are not diff dunks. Why? Well, the reason is that peace is double levels. Never a cure in the same syllable. So def tongue always has to be in the same syllable. Then it's a different. But if there's are two different syllables, then it's sort of different. Let's let me give an example. For example, I it's not a defeat on Let's Take an Example work, for example the word high in May. Hi. I'm a Hi, I'm It's like we will get something or we will search something. But if we break this into syllables, we get hot. M man, huh? In May, huh? And as you can see, that syllable break is bit being up on a so it sounds like a def tongue. But it's just not a different because they never get into one same assailable. Is this really important to know? Well, not really. But I just want to point you out that you might see these letter combinations and why. I wonder why this is a gift on this is the reason in order to get good at pronouncing finish, you don't really need to know about this information, which I just talked to you because the more you speak, the more your practice. These things will come naturally because when you spend harming natives because you practice speaking with them and you listen how they speak. This is something that you will get pretty much done and learned naturally. But it's screwed some extra information there. Okay, let's also recap the things. What do you need to know about difference is that there are 18 of them on. They consist of two different bubbles in the same syllable. They usually a core or appear in the first syllable off the bird, which means that you just need to stress them on the pronouncing off. These usually is that you start for the first and you slide into the 2nd 1 Flexible I It's like I kind of slide into the segment. You don't say r e that That's wrong. Are you running? You say I might product to learn. This is just to learn. Keep learning. New words keeps baking finish. You will pick up this natural good stuff, guys. We just learned def tongues. And now all we have left is to recap this whole section off bubbles. Good stuff. We're almost done with this part one. See you there.
35. Recap: good job guys for almost done with the bubbles in discourse in this part one. And no, it's time just to recap what we've learned so far. Well, first will be correct. Some basics. For example, that finish has both continents and wobbles, just like many other languages do. We also learned that the stress is always on the beginning. Off the word on the first syllable. We didn't go true, so liberalisation and stressing it. But that's what we learned this very important principle on this course. One of the most important things is the finish is very phonetic and very consistent. Pronunciation wise, we can say that everything is pronounced as it's written, so we have really good time and really easy time to speak and pronounce. Finish correctly once we learn all the different sounds. Also, we learned that finish has no aspiration. We will focus on this once we get under the coincidence, because that's usually where the aspiration arises. But mostly we have been learning bubble, so there are eight levels and finish our a E or we also learned that they are front levels on back walls, depending where the highest part off the tongue is when they're pronounced, and there's also neutrals and E. And the most important fact to learn from this one is the bubble harmony, which means that avert a Finnish origin can only include front levels or back levels or also weight that neutral wells. We also learned dif tongues which are sounds consisting off to different wobbles in the same syllable. And we went through all the sounds together with some practice. No, we've learned everything we need to know about bubbles and we have actually have a great start here and in the next section next block we will go to the continents and the same principles apply there. We will cover everything into No, we go or true, all the letters practice them so you will get skills to pronounce finish like a boss. By the time you're watching this video, that part to the constant section might be already there. If it is out, the link is probably here. But if not, I'm still working on it. But you will see it later on and learn more. Thank you so much for watching. Remember to leave any feedback comments and give thumbs up on this course, if you like on oil.
