1. Introduction: Hello, guys. Learning a foreign language can be hard and daunting experience. Yet there are many people around us who speak several foreign languages, quite food clean. In the short course, I'm going to share some tips with you how to make the process off, learning a foreign language much more efficient and easy to follow. My name is Tim or, and I speak eight languages, a different level of fluency. My native language is Russian, although I was born in the Russian region off Understand where people speak less commonly known language off Tatar, and this is my true mother tongue. Unfortunately, this language is disappearing and fewer and fewer people speak it. So when I was growing up, I would speak probably 95% Russian and 5% other. With my grandparent's mostly at school, I learned English in Turkish. Then at university, I started learning French and Arabic, and now fast forward 10 years. I also speak a little bit of Italian, Spanish and Hungarian, these free languages. I learned completely by myself from scratch with the use of books and various online resources. Knowing several languages enabled me to have a decent job opportunities to travel around the world I have is that more than 30 countries on four continents, and now I have lots of friends all over the world. When I learned the language, I tried various approaches and based on my combined 20 plus years of flooring experience, I have gathered a number of ideas and useful tips, which I'm going to share with you in the scores we're going to cover how to keep motivation , the long term how to practice speaking, can reasoning skills will check our current vocabulary size, and we learn how many words are necessary to speak on a basic and on the provision level. At the end of the course, you have a one page action plan which you can complete to enhance your learning experience . I hope after this course you will be able to use some of the strategies straightaway which will accelerate the learning process significantly. Take this course before taking, cut the language learning courses, and it will save your time and efforts. So that's it for the introduction and seeing inside the course 2. How Difficult are Different Languages: every language is unique in its own way, and for some, people with certain languages are more difficult to learn than others. Well, the Foreign Service Institute of the US Department of State has come up with this comparison table off. How much time will it take? An English speaker to muster a certain foreign language from level zero, the general professional perfection level, which means being able to understand and speak quite fluently on the wide range of topics. So the institute divided languages into five categories, depending on the amount of time it will take to reach that level again to remind you the supplies to English speakers only because this research was done for American diplomats. So the first category includes languages, which take about 24 weeks for 600 hours to practice. And here we have most European languages, except for German and East European languages. These languages are French, Italian, Spanish damage, Portuguese, Norwegian, Swedish and strange as it seems, but also Africans, probably because it also has only 26 others, just like English and close language concepts similar to Dutch. The second category includes German, and you will need about 30 weeks or 750 hours of intense studying. If you want to achieve good proficiency in this language in the third category for the languages spoken mostly Southeast Asia, mainly Indonesian, Malaysian and Swahili, you need approximately 36 weeks or 900 hours to be able to speak fluently. Category four includes the most challenging European languages for English speakers to pick up. Here, you'll find Slavic and Baltic languages, including Polish, Croatian, Czech, Finnish, hungering Greek, Icelandic and Russian, as well as some Asian languages such as Turkish Vietnamese was like Tie and others. The Foreign Institute estimates it will take upto 44 weeks for 1100 hours of intense starting to become proficient in these languages. And finally, the last fifth category includes the toughest languages, which also have their own script completely different from lighting or Cyrillic. These languages are most common in Asia in the Middle East, and they include rendering Chinese, Arabic, Korean and Japanese. If you want to master them, be ready to spend at least 88 weeks or 2200 hours off Indian studying. So if you are struggling to choose which foreign land which you would like to start learning and you don't have any particular goal, then why not start with the easiest ones? These comparison table also service well is a guideline for learners to have understanding how much time they will have to spend on learning the language upto proficiency level and to have more adequate expectations. And, of course, you may ignore the stable if you need to learn the language just on a basic level. To be able to express yourself in a Kathy or on the street and talk about daily routine for these purpose, you will need much less time to reach a one elementary or a to pre intermediate levels. So don't let this table skier you. In this case. In the next lectures, we're going to learn how many words are necessary for speaking on most common topics. 3. How Many Words You Should Know: In the previous episode, we mentioned the number of weeks and hours required to learn a certain language upto proficiency level. This level means that you will be able to speak on a wide range of different topics, including politics, economics, health, technology and what not. However. What about millions of people who don't need to learn a new language that deep? Maybe you just need to learn it to feel comfortable when you travel abroad or stick with your foreign friends. So with this in mind, did you know that if you learn about 800 most frequently used force in English, he will be able to understand 75% of the language as it's spoken in normal life. The same applies more or less to other languages. It means that as many as only 800 wars will help you to speak comfortably language in a day to day setting. Which is great, isn't it? However, if you want to understand dialects in a fume or in a TV show, you'll probably need to know about 3000 most common words. And if you want to feel comfortable reading novels and books as well as local newspapers, and articles. You will need to learn up to 8000 base wards, and these numbers correspond to the various levels off language proficiency. Most estimates agree on the following numbers Off wars you need to know for each level for a little A one. You need to know 500 towards for a level 8 to 1000 towards be 1 2000 towards. For level B 2 4000 words, See 1 8004th and see to 16,000 words. As you can see the number off force needed to advance to every level doubles. And if you want to know more about the explanation off what each level means, you can visit the page of the common European framework off reference in languages in Wikipedia, where they explain what each level is supposed to mean. 4. What is my Vocabulary Size: So if you are already learning the language, try out this website with online tests for a number of languages that this will show you how many worse, you know, out of 5000 most common worse in that language. If you're not a native English speaker like me, you can also try a different test which only checks your knowledge of English for cap. It is more detailed and conjecture upto 20,000. Most common words is for me, that is, show that I know at least 9700 English base words. Base work means that the worst quick and quickly or act and actor are counted as one Word is for French. I use the test on my DT lipstick website and they gave me the result of 71% out of 5000 words, which is equal to about 3500 force. As for my Turkish, I have traditional results off 77% which is about 3850 words. Although I was a little bit surprised because obviously I practice my friends much more often than Turkish. But whatever this problem means that my Percival Captain George is a bit larger, as I used to read a lot of very initially structure in the past, so these results are critical for me. But I also think there is place for improving my French in Georgia cavalry. Off course, I haven't test my recovery in other languages, namely Spanish hungering and Arabic. But I guess my recovery in these languages will be definitely shorter. I will keep you posted recently passed them as well. In the meantime, check out this online test and that would be awesome if you could share your results with me and other students in the comments. Section two. This episode for in Your Uterus scores best of luck and seeing the next episode. 5. Concept of Ocean Tide: hi there. And now, for those of you who are just starting to learn your language, here is my concept of ocean tight. Imagine that you are on the ocean coast and he want to go for a swim. But there are some strong, tight, And as soon as you enter the water that ICTs tend to push you back to the shore. So what do you do? You try to do your best to move quickly past the tight and maybe 15 to 20 meters into the water, where the tides are less stronger and they don't prevent you from swimming comfortably. The same applies to starting a new language. At the very beginning, you will be struggling with learning, vocabulary, drama, pronunciation and what not. It will seem that you need to keep in mind so many building blocks in order to be the seemingly simple sentence. But you need to keep moving forward and move quickly. Try to learn the most important and most frequent wars as soon as possible, at least 200 or even better free content force, and after that initial period of two weeks or one month, it will be much easier for you to continue your learning process. So your goal is to withstand and overcome the most difficult first period of learning and overcome it as soon as possible. And then you will feel much more comfortable because if you decide to stop lowering the language before reaching a certain level, it will be very difficult for you to continue after a long break. You probably need to start again from the very beginning, because your mind would not have processed all the information into structured material is for me. It took me about 1.5 month off, almost everyday training, the learning Italian and Hungarian from scratch to the point where I started feeling more or less comfortable when I could hear and understand basic phrases and treat some short stories. By that time, I probably knew a couple of 100 words. I could conjugated verbs and use present and future tenses, and I was able to understand simple dialects when we stink. O'Dea exercises. So if you're just starting clearing a new language, set yourself a goal. Which would sound like that I'm not going to give up until I reach 30 hours of studying will learn at least 300 words, no matter what, even if it will be very difficult and I will be totally confused. I will keep learning. And he will see that by the time you reach those 30 hours or 300 words along with some basic grammar rules, you will feel much more comfortable with the language. 6. How to Find Your Motivation: If you don't know why you're learning the language, you probably give up when it starts to feel difficult. But if you have a real and strong motivation, you'll keep learning whatever it takes. Of course, this doesn't relate the language enthusiast who learned foreign languages just for the sake of it and because they love doing it. But for the majority of people, it's the motivation that will help them keep learning language in the long run. So when you start learning a new language, there is probably a deep motivation behind that. So answer yourself the question why you're learning the language. The answer. The true excites and motivates you and inspires. Here is your real motivation for learning the language. For example, you want to find a better job of a higher salary or find the future husband or a wife and be able to communicate with them. Travel and meet new people. Learn new information in the new language because you're writing a PhD thesis and so on. So when you define that girl, always keep it in your mind. When you muster another camera or drill your work, please and your wife should be strong Only in this case will you be always inspired, and it will keep you. Continue learning the language regularly, even when it will be difficult. And sometimes it will be difficult. Revisit your wife's and goals. They may change during your learning process, and that's normal. And even if you're, why doesn't fall into any off the above mentioned categories than one reason off? The new to learn foreign languages and which can be relevant to every person living on our planet is the health reason. It is scientifically proven that knowing one foreign language delays the start of dementia and Alzheimer disease for five years. So a person who knows to foreign languages were likely to remain in the clarity of mind for 10 years longer. In compares indoor person who only speaks his mother tongue. So whatever your motivation is, in order to stay motivated in the long term, you can even print this Weiss on a separate piece of paper or print the photos off the country whose language you are learning so that it keeps you motivated personally for me. Knowing a couple of foreign languages helped me to land well paid jobs more than ones I was able to travel the world and visit more than 30 countries while making lots of friends. When I start speaking the local language in another country and locals understand that I'm a foreigner, but I try to speak their own language, these people become so much more polite and friendly. You get so many bonuses, even if you don't ask them. For example, I very often get a free cooler or a free give up when I visit Turkey or Arabic countries. And in general, knowing various languages helps you to understand other people in their cultures much better. You find it easy to adapt to new environments and make friends from different cultural backgrounds. 7. Effective Method to Achieve Learning Goals: so there are some tips how to keep you motivated in Lauren. Can you language First of new languages means new countries, right, and that means opportunities to travel. So if you learn the language, print beautiful photos off that country and put them somewhere in front of your computer. Where's the wallpaper on your computer desktop so that you always remember what is waiting for You also languages closely connected with the culture of the country as well its history, its national cuisine, customs and traditions and other interesting facts. So start learning about the cultural and historical aspect of the target language, and this language will see more familiar and understandable to you. And as a result, you make the learning process more engaging. What I also would do when I started learning can you foreign language is I would be myself . That's a great way to keep you motivated for learning in the long from and even when it seems difficult, I first started paying myself when I started learning Kandarian from scratch without any teacher. I just wrote a solid book for beginners, and I would spend one hour every day luring Kandarian. I created an Excel file. You can see it on the screen, and that would write down all the words that I have learned during the day and how much time I spend doing exercises and flooring the words. So at the end of the day, I would count all new words and time spent, and I would give myself two roubles for every word learned and for every minute spent, which equals to approximately three cents. So, for example, if 11 day I spend 40 minutes loading Congaree in and also learned 35 new words, then it would make 100 and 50 roubles, which is equal to $2.5. I would then put this amount of cash in a separate and the look, and by then the three months I just put the site over $300 which I event spent on buying tickets to Hungary. These methods really work for me. When you pay yourself, you have to pleasures. The 1st 1 is like a salary for the hard work that you are doing. And the second pleasure is that when you suddenly opened the envelope and it has enough money to pay for your travels to the country off your target language. So to sum up, if you want to stay motivated in the long run first, surround yourself of the information about the country whose language you are learning. It means put pictures around your house. Start learning more about its culture and history and traditions, and secondly, try bank yourself for every word he have learned and for every minute you have spent on learning the language, seeing the next lectures. 8. Understand Your Learning Style: Have you ever wondered why we seem to have difficulties where we feel bored learning a foreign language with one teacher or a particular course? But enjoy doing Kate with another teacher or another course? It's probably because the teacher uses a different approach or another teaching style. Indeed, each person has his or your own way of learning and perceiving the information. Based on that, people can be divided into several categories. First, our visual people, it means your primary way off. Acquiring information is full visual senses, which means if you want to learn a language, you need to use lots of pictures, drawings and videos with people speaking the language. The second category are people with strong ordeal senses. If you fall into this group, it's a good idea to learn the language for listening to songs and podcasts and doing old your exercises, contributing phrases after the teacher or the speaker. The first category is variable, which means that you comprehend and flooring the information better when you speak with others. So for you, it is recommended to communicate a lot with other people using the target language play games in which you have to speak writing clatters or essays is also a good way to practice your language skills if you're available. Type of Thorner, the fourth group of foreigners are people with strong political skills. If you're one of them. Your injury learning by making diagrams, charts and mind lamps and foreign crews and making sentences based on these rules and finally, the last category are the people for whom touching is important, so make sure to name and touch the physical object when you name them in the target language. You can also mimic the activities and tryingto take them out when you learn them. Of course, there are. Lots of people like to combine the difference times of flirting, but in most cases there is one or two ways which work best for you. So it's a good idea to understand what is your primary learning style to streamline and customize your learning process. Also, learning styles can be divided into individual and social, depending on whether you like the study and practice alone or in a group of people. By the way, you can also experiment with completely opposite learning styles which are not common for you. You may find it an exciting experience. And, by the way, some research suggests that when you do something to you, which is out of your comfort zone, your brain works better and it creates more connections between neurons. I do it all the time when taking your roots to my office, or when I brush my teeth with the left hand in the morning. In the past, I always thought that I was 100% logical type of governor because I loved drawing diagrams and creating mind maps of grammar rules and so on. But when I started flooring Spanish a while ago, I came across an online course which uses only order exercises, which means I only recent to the words and phrases in tribute after the teacher, and they found it so helpful for me. I was really surprised. I'm on my third level off this course now with more than 50 lessons behind, and I haven't taken a single note. But I can make certain phrases and feel pretty confident, which is just awesome. The word what when it's used in the middle of a sentence, not is the initial question, but in the middle of a sentence is looking look it. How would you say? Therefore, I'm sorry, but I don't understand what you're saying. There are 90 and located. I don't know what you want, no sense. Look, a Guinness no se look ridiculous. So to sum up, it's a good idea to understand your learning style and use more activities based on the type to feel at ease. But once in a while, try a completely different approach for a change and see if it works as well seeing the next lecture. 9. How to Switch Quickly to Another Language: a foreign language has a tendency to be easily forgotten, especially when it's not practiced enough. I know eight languages, and believe me, I have to make an effort not to forget them. So I try to practice them at lead by watching. Some videos were reading short articles in the Internet. However, what can we do if we need to refresh our knowledge of the language very quickly? I personally used to deeps to do so. The 1st 1 is similar to what you can see in the fume inception. They had a speeding totem, and when they spend it they could immediately understand whether they were in a dream or in reality. So when I want to switch quickly to another language, I have special trigger words. Which eggs for me? As I told them, for example, ingratiates the word sold in French is the word dunk, which basically means the same in Turkish. It's Yanni, which means that he's since they pronounce these words. I immediately switch my brain to another language, and it is ready to speak it. So maybe you could also find a word or a phrase, which could be the essence of your target language and which could help you focus on these language before starting to speak. In that the method that I also use pretty commonly is that I learned by heart some very short programs or interesting sings in the target language. And when I need to refresh the language, which I haven't used for a while, I just say these proverbs because I know them by heart. And while I'm seeing them, I started to remember the language I was learning. For example, in Italian, I have a short story, which I learned by heart at the very beginning off my learning journey. It sounds like follows a few of the apple or sexual apology Belletti, Polo Duty Peshev and around Aleppo Federal apology Oladipo for the fuel up along. By the time I finish reading aloud this funny story, I remember certain grammar rules and forcing the telling language which I have learned before, for example, that two team means all and that the English proposition off sounds as D in Italian. To see means Parad era and so on in Arabic. I also have a couple of such tricks. I have one program connected with time, which whenever I use it makes my Arabic interlocutors love and understand that I know are radical. You'll be deeper. These programs sounds like these Iraq is safe, which basically means the time is like a sword. If you don't cut it, it will cut year, and it means that you have to manage your time. They're effectively. This is a funny but wise proverb, and our people like it. That's why it's a very good idea to learn by heart some short programs or songs or just funny sayings, which will immediately take you in your mind back to the target language. Not only will you remember the words, but he can also remember various grammar rules, such as plural forms or different propositions, how the words are pronounced and other aspect. That's why, when we study in kindergarten or primary schools, our teachers makes us learn by heart various songs and rhymes because they help to reach a difference of the language as well. So to sum up big, certain short words, which will act as a trigger to remember the language and to immediately set your mind to speaking the target language and secondly, try to learn by heart short songs, proverbs, sayings or stories which will remind you of the most common grammar rules pronunciations and towards see in the next episode. 10. How to Train Listening/Audio Comprehension: for most people leasing can speaking on the most difficult parts in language learning. Even if they can already do some grammar exercises, they still find it difficult to grasp what people are saying. The first thing I would suggest in order to improve your recent skills is to get used to the melody and treatem off the language. The baby is when they are born. They don't start speaking immediately for one or two years. They just keep listening to the language around and get used to it. Every language has its own unique melody. So even before you start learning the language, you can start racing to foreign radios and videos on YouTube and get used to that everything and feel that melody you need and hold your bombing. Tell time that we're watching him. Parity another story and Consort GI Joe Team Transparency Shannon Single teaching, I think in a subpoena. Michele Kelemen. I did. You were with the Hurry it up here. The human was terrible. Ethiopia leading family will be here Thescore, so they'll originalism Westminster Island capital purity, and then we'll go there with the Brexit Investment Analysis Intervention Burrito Quella Della Regina, a camera and a lot of the A thing. So when you listen to the language trying to feel whether it is soft or hard, where the speakers accentuated the beginning or the end of the sentence, do they have specific sounds which are used most often and so on? And then when you speak, try to imitate these people not only the worst, but most importantly, the way they speak there. Ethan and the melody off the language, another difficulty with improvement. Your listening skills is that in the beginning, when you hear someone talking for you, it feels like a continues babbling, cooperating like the flow off the sounds, and you can separate the worst from each other. To overcome this problem, I would suggest doing the following exercise. You need to take a book or a course which has both their order Exercise in the text screams first, you recently the audio exercise. Without treating this creep, you estimate how much you understood from the first listening. Maybe it's 25% or even 10%. Then you listen for the second time. But this time you read this creep twi listening. During this time, the worst that he read will match with the sounds you hear in your brain and they will be synchronized in your mind. And finally, you need to listen to the audio exercise again for the third time. But now, without the text again, and when you will be leasing for the third time, you will hear the sounds and automatically you will see the worst in your mind. I used this technique all the time. If I need to improve my least incomprehension, it really helps because, as I said, your brain creates connections between how the world sounds and how it is return in the next time you listen. Instead of hearing the continues babbling, you hear separate force and we'll understand the foreign speech much better. Another tip, which everyone could use to improve their listening skills, is obviously to watch videos on YouTube on your target language. We've and without subtitles these days, you can even slowed down the video to 0.75 for the speed so that people don't seem to be speaking so fast. I would also suggest increasing the speed to 1.5 instead and towards or listen to it for some time, and then said they speak back to normal speed 10 and he will see that after watching the video at 1.5 speed for some time, it will be easier for you to understand what people are saying at their normal speed. Also, do not be tempted to use only one source of recent exercises. For example, if you learn a language with a teacher, you'll get used to his pronunciation. But there are millions of people speaking the same language, but with a different tonality, accent and pronunciation. So we tried to recent to as many different people as possible. This is especially truthful languages, which have very distinct differences depending on the country. For example, suspension late in America is different from Spanish in Spain. Arabic in Lebanon is very different from Arabic in Egypt. Even take the English language. That person who is luring British English will struggle understanding American, Canadian, Australian, Indian, Pakistani or Nigerian English. I'm not saying that language in one country is more clear and tried than in other countries . I'm just saying that people living in different or even in the same country but in different Regent will speak the same language with a lot of their incest. So if you want to be able to understand the language easily, try to reach in and speak to as many different speakers as possible while you're learning. And my last comment is that you also need to continue to increase your vocabulary. Sometimes you can't understand what people are saying simply because you don't know all the words, what they are saying, a simple truth as dead, so keep practicing and everything will be all right. 11. Forgetfullness Curve. When to Repeat to Remember Better.: hi there. And I think this lecture is by far one of the most important ones because it can be applied to learning anything. And it deals with how our brain and memory function. Let's divide people into two categories. Those who have a perfect memory and can memorize anything by look and get it only ones. And the second group is average people for whom it takes several times to repeat to remember something. So in this lecture, we're going to do with the second group of people who have ordinary memory, like most of us, including myself. In fact, there has been a lot of research on how our memory functions and how we tend to forget things, and the common conclusion is the following. After you have a writer learned something, you forget upto half off it after only 24 hours and up to 85% after seven days. If you don't repeat what you have learned, can you mention that it's quite disappointing, isn't it? However, based on the same research, scientists have come up with a solution which they also just out. If you want to remember most of what you have learned you just need to repeat it after certain time intervals. So the repetition better and can be the following. Let's say on Monday you have learned some new words in a couple of new rules. The best way to remember them for a long time would be to repeat what you have learned after one hour, then after eight hours, then after one day, then after one week and then after one month. If you can't afford so many repetitions, at least repeated the next day up later and then after a couple of days and after one week . That's why the best way to learn the language is, firstly, do it on a regular daily basis. Even if it is only half an hour or even 10 minutes, it will be much more effective rather than learning for free hours once a week. Another bedroom for learning against remembering what you have learned is the following again, it's preferable to do it on an everyday basis. So on day one, you learn one unit on day to Europe it unit one and 13 1 unit more on the free. You repeat what you have learned, and they wanted to and learn another unit. Then on the four, you repeat what you have learned on these two and free and learn and your unit and so on. Then, on day seven, you revise all units again without learning anything you and we do. You start again from a new unit and so on. The idea is that you keep repeating the same unit for it least three consecutive days and then also a band of the week. The scheme corresponds well with other research on our brain and memory, which claimed that you need to see something for 37 to 10 times to remember it and transferred to your long term memory is for me when they learn a language from scratch. I use the method off everyday luring, contributing what they have learned in the previous couple of these. Then, at the end of the week, I also revised what I have learned in the previous six or seven days. If I just keep improving the language that I already know well, for example, French, I don't try down all the new words that I come across when reading an article in the Internet. I just translate the new World Online and continue reading because I know that when I see this word for the second time, I will translate it again. Then when I see it for the third time, I will probably translate it again. But when I see it for the fourth or fifth time, I will not mean to translate it, because I will remember it already by the time. And if this were doesn't come across so often, then no problem. It means it is not so frequent, and I don't need it in my everyday life. So they take away from this episode. Why not set yourself a 30 day challenge? There were at least 10 minutes of the language every day, without exceptions and every day. Repeat what you have learned in the previous two days and every seven for 10 day repeat everything again, based on my personal experience and the experience of other language learners who I know well, such routine will be much more effective than learning the language once or twice a week for two or three hours. See, in the next episode 12. 5 Myphs about Learning a Foreign Language: Hi there. Some people hesitate to start learning a new language simply because of some few years and believes which are really, sometimes not justified. In the same results. I will try to mention some of such myths about learning foreign languages and which I believe should not become an obstacle in your Lord in journey they first need. I don't have a special gene or talent for learning languages. It is one of the most popular excuse for people who give up learning a foreign language. It becomes just self fulfilling prophecy. If you start to believe in this meet, you give up every time you face a difficulty. But there is no such thing as a gene for learning languages. Anyone can do it off course. For some, it's easier than for others. But every person in the world speaks, so if you could learn to speak one language, you can do it with another language. You just need to find a proper learning style that will suit your better and understand that Wawrinka language will take a little bit of time. May be used to learn a lot of drama, and it was so complicated for you and even boring. Why not try a different during approach? Who knows? Maybe you are an ideal type of corner. So try a course, which teaches the language with the focus on recent exercisers. So not having Catella and is not an excuse. And there is no such thing as a gene. Just try different approaches and find the one which suits you best. Second, there are so many rules to learn a foreign language, and on top of that, there are so many worse that it's just impossible to learn off it during my whole lifetime . No, it's scientifically proven that in our daily life, people use only a certain number of words. About 85% of the worst we use every day can see, if not more than 800 most common words and phrases, and it's enough to learn very basic grammar to be able to speak and understand foreign people, at least on the basic level. So remember that grammar rules are limited and Finn it they're not endless, and you do not need to know all of them. The same applies to the vocabulary. Just think the most common worst, and you'll feel quite comfortable understanding most of people's daily routine. Third, I'm too old to learn a foreign language we all have here. The Children learn language faster, but it's not always true. There have been a number of research, and it was found that under the right circumstances and two of the strong motivation, adults are actually better learners. They can structure and use the rules. They can manage their time more effectively and better control themselves. So it's not about age. It's about having the right motivation and the right tools and environment to learn a new language. Next, I have a bad memory. Maybe you have experienced it, too. When he have a least affords, you tend to forget new worse very quickly. This was the case with me until I realized that you just need to practice and repeat them at the right rate of frequency. That's it. The technique is called space repetition, which were covering one of the lectures of these course. Ideally, you need to revise the worst one hour after the end of the lesson. Then, after one day, three days, seven days, one month and it is guaranteed that it will work much better to remember all the words that you have learned. So just repeat the words at the right trade off time intervals as easy as that. And finally, I don't have money to travel to another country to practice the language these days. It's not a problem anymore. Today we live in the cities, which are much more international than we think. There are so many expats living in your very country, and some of them want to learn your language, too. Or just chitchat once in a while with locals like you, so you can teach them your language and they will teach your There's just the Gaffie having some coffee or drinks. Look at Craigslist or meet up application and you'll find some meetings or events with foreigners in your very city. So to sum up, don't let any of these leaves and obstacles stop you. If you really want to learn the language, if you have the desire, you will find the way. If not, you always find an excuse. In the meantime, we share very beautiful day 13. Action plan: hi, guys, and congratulations on making to the end of this course, I hope you found some useful tips on how to learn foreign languages more efficiently. Learning a foreign language takes time and involves a number of various activities such as Lord and Drama, improving christening skills, reading, comprehension, speaking, practice, learning new words and so forth. And since it's not quite a short process, you also have to keep in mind you're learning goals and motivation. That's why I have come up with an action plan which will help you to keep all these elements off your learning journey in one place. It is a one page document, which you can feel in and which will act as your guideline in luring your target language. It starts with the most important question why you're wearing your target language be since year. And as we mentioned in the previous lectures, you're even encouraged to print photos off your goals like pictures of the countries you would like to visit. Or maybe if your dream job and so on. Next, you need to understand how much time you're going to spend on learning. First start off with defining whether you have a deadline or not. For example, if you need to best exam, you obviously will have a deadline. But if you're learning the language just for fun, then you're free in terms of time limit. Also, try to define how many hours a day you're going to spend on learning. It is better to define specific time and included in your stereo. According to very psychological research. If you commit to doing something in writing, you're more likely to do it. Then you can check your current for cavalry size. In one of our previous lectures, we showed you the websites where you can check it and if you start from scratch and do not know any worth in the target language, or just if you also write it down next to eat, insert how many words you would like to know by then, if your learning journey again. In one of our previous lectures, we mentioned how many words you need to know for different levels, like a one or beetle and whether you needed to speak while traveling or to discuss various economic, political and social issues. For beginner levels, this number can be 300 or 500 wars for advanced levels up to 3000 or 5000 words. Based on my personal experience, and especially if you're lowering the language on your own, it is helpful to have one primary resource, like a certain book or a certain online course and a number of additional resources like videos on YouTube, additional books for reading and presence with a native speaker once a week. So write down all the resources that you're going to use, and you can also leave some of the blanks empty as you can feel them later on, as you will progress in your learning journey. Don't forget named fortification that you also probably used. I personally use APS for luring the words such a squeeze it and other abs for grammar exercises like Do Linger and so on. And finally, another important aspect is rewarding yourself. In one of the previous lectures in this course, we talked about how important it is to stay motivated because we're in a foreign language, takes on decent time, so one of the ways to get your motivation levels high used to give yourself rewards. These can be either being yourself certain amounts of money for everything worse learned and every 10 minutes spent on learning. And then you can use this money to buy yourself some treats, which you wouldn't have spent your money on otherwise. Or instead, you can promise yourself to travel to the country of your target language as soon as you learn. For example, 500 wars and spend 30 hours of starting the language, and you should always keep in mind. And remember these commitment and promise when you will be learning the language so that it keep you engaged, motivated. Finally, at the end of the action plan, write down the date when you're going to review it. It can be free months or even one month to check how many worse we have learned, how many hours he has spent and whether your goals or you're learning strategies have changed and someone so we just to give you an example of how we could look like Here's my own action plan completed by myself. Before I started learning Spanish, I started learning Spanish from scratch completely on my own, and you can have a look how my action plan looks like. I will upload the simple action plan and my own under the resource is section of this course so that you can download them and I encourage you to complete it for yourself. I hope it will make your learning journey even more effective. So again, thank you very much for taking this course. I do hope it was useful for you. And you found some helpful tips and information here. Please share your feedback, your action plans and your own ideas on how we can improve our language learning. And I wish you best of luck in this amazing journey.
