Polish Language: Beginner - Part 1

In this Skillshare course, I will teach you polish alphabet, Polish pronunciation, how to spell polish words, and how to read Polish texts. I will also explain you at the very beginning how Polish language differs from English. Things that usually Polish teachers don't tell you when you're just starting to learn this language. At the end, you will learn 25 polish expressions and polish boards that are essentials and you will use them in your everyday communication. This course is designed to help you put your first steps into the Polish language. Let's start learning. I hope to see you inside. 2. Lesson 1 Introduction: How Polish Language works?: Chest, thank you so much for enrolling in my course. In this lesson, I will guide you through how this course works, as well as I will tell you a little bit more about Polish language in general, I will explain you how it differs from English and as well gives you some useful tips on how to learn it. And as well, I will tell you a couple of facts about Poland in case you are learning polish because you live there because maybe you don't know some websites that can help you leave easier and adapt Polish culture. So let's get started. So now let's explain a few things. Polish is a Slavic language. It's spoken by approximately 55 million people. That's a lot. Probably the statistics were not updated. Maybe it's even more people right now. It's spoken in Poland, obviously butter, also Polish speaking communities and countries like Belarus, Ukraine, and lead to weigh in. Yeah, there is also an maybe you are from there. There are large communities of Polish people in Canada and the USA as well as Brazil. And now about the letters, things that you should know is that policy is based on Latin alphabet. So here you will not have many problems. The letters Q, V, and X, which are used in English, are mostly non-existent in Polish, except maybe the words like Vogue, which we would just take the word from English. And then we have 32 letters in the Polish alphabet from which nine are vowels and consonants. Then what you need to be aware of, are there diminutive forms? And what does it mean? They are mostly used to express friendly attitude or affection to something, and that applies to words and polish names. So let's have an example. We have a word, it's a girl's name, Euler. In English, you would probably just say, oh Allah, or Sarah or Anya or whatever name. And that would just stay the name. You wouldn't call that person a different name. But in polish you have diminutive form, even of names of people. So you have Euler or Lanka or Lucia, Orca, Alaska and so many more, I could make way, way more Dimitri forms right now. So this is something that you need to be aware of. A new seed constantly done with even simple objects like a mouse, computer and other nouns, your cat, your dog, your objects, even your glasses. Because let's say a culinary means glasses in Polish, but I can also say a cooler. Archaea are cooler, it can make many more diminutive forms. So just be aware of that, that those forms exist and don't be surprised that the word that you are learning, the base word suddenly looks different and sounds different. And couple of letters have been added because suddenly it has a diminutive form. Okay, and learning polish will allow you to understand some. We're Slavic languages like Czechs, Slovaks, Serbia, and it will be easier to learn Belarusian, Bulgarian curation, Russian, Slovenian, Bosnian, ukrainian, because those are all Slavic languages. So you will understand some words and verbs, okay, and now we will cover some differences between Polish and English. So first of all, I would like you to know that polish nouns have free genders. We don't go into too much detail right now. But in brief, there are feminine and masculine nouns, and that thing is called cases. And what, that basically means, words have genders. What do you mean, Veronica? We can have free words. Words like, oh, cool area, as I told you before, which means glass it. And that would be a corollary, which is a Notre case. But mesh car. It's a feminine word and it ends with ase. So this is a feminine word. But if I want to say, I don't know, computer, computer is a masculine word. I just want you to know this fact. The biggest difference between English and polish escapes and gender, as I mentioned, and if you look at the Polish sentence, you might be confused by the wayside for certain words change to showcase and gender, the word still has the same meaning, but may be spelled very differently. And now I would like to tell you and introduce, use some main citizen, Poland, because maybe you don't know them. And this will definitely connect you to Poland a little bit more. So these are just few cities, main cities in Poland that you definitely should know if you learn Polish. So Varsha, Java, which is a capital city of words. So if you are not often at home, you can just come within 48 hours and collect your palate herself from there. I know it's super cool. Public transport. So if you're using public transport in Poland, perhaps Google Maps will not be the best solution, is better to use yada-yada-yada or intercity, which is four, trains. Medicine. If you're looking for a doctor in Poland, definitely check website, legs, non-electric, spell *******. There you can find plenty of different doctors that will help you serve your issues and see if they speak English. News websites. So if you want to even Google Translate news articles for a start and end, if you just move to pull on those two websites, will be your go-to to check the news. Now we finally got to your second lesson where you will learn the alphabet. I know it's exciting. We will cover all the 32 letters, which I mentioned you about in the previous video. By the end of this lesson, you will know how to spell words and what are the Polish letters, how to read the words correctly? And in the next lesson we will learn how to read bigger parts of text.
