About This Class

This ‘Mix With Me’ class is designed so you can mix along and learn the exact same DJ mix as I do. The DJ mix you will be learning consists of 5 different EDM tracks, all mixed together in just 5 minutes.

It is a fast paced, high energy, professional sounding DJ mix. You are able to learn the exact same DJ mix because all the tracks that I use in this class are available for you to download for free in the resources, so you can follow along at home and do the exact same mix as I do.

This class will focus on Electronic Dance Music (EDM), which encompasses a variety of musical styles that emerged in the mid-1980s, typified by deliberately inorganic sounds.

In This Class You Will Learn:

  • How to use your hot cues effectively when DJing
  • How to mix your tracks together smoothly
  • How to organise and prepare your tracks correctly ready to DJ with

These skills are very useful, if not essential, when DJing either live to an audience or if you are recording a DJ mix to put online.

This class allows you to practice all these skills in a simple step by step guide that you can easily follow along with.

Who Is This Class For:

This class is for anyone who wants to develop their DJ skills and have fun at the same time.

This class is not for complete beginners who are starting from scratch. You don’t need to be an expert to do this class, but it does help if you have some basic knowledge of DJing and understand what the buttons and dials do on your DJ controller.

If you are a complete beginner, feel free to check out my full DJ course called ‘The Complete DJ Course For Beginners’. It teaches you all the fundamentals of DJing from start to finish.

What You Will Need:

To do this class you will need some for of DJ equipment. It helps if you have a beginner DJ controller that supports either DJ software of Rekordbox or Serato.

All the music that is used in this class is provided to you, for free, in the resources, so make sure you download the free tracks first for the class.

I hope you enjoy this class as much as I enjoyed putting it together for you. I will be doing more ‘Mix With Me’ classes so if you enjoy this one make sure you check them out!

See you in the class!

1. Welcome To The Class!: Hi, and welcome to this Skillshare class where you will learn a fast-paced, high-energy DJ mix. You will learn how to mix five EDM tracks together in just five minutes. [MUSIC] This class is a great way for you to practice your DJ skills, learn some new techniques, and have fun all at the same time. For those that haven't met me before, my name is DJ Jack Bradley and I'm an international professional DJ. I have DJed all around the world, including places such as Thailand, Australia, France, Greece, and the UK. In those locations, I have DJed in venues such as clubs, bars, pool parties, boat parties and festivals. I have a huge range of DJ experience. In this Skillshare class, I'm going to teach you how to do a five-minute EDM DJ mix using some of the DJ techniques that I use when I DJ live. All the tracks that are used in this class are available for you to download for free in the resources. So this means you get to join in and follow along step-by-step and learn the exact same DJ mix as I do with the exact same tracks. In the next video, I will demonstrate to you the exact DJ mix that you will be learning. Then in the following videos after that, I will walk you through step-by-step how to prepare each individual track ready for the DJ mix. I will show you exactly where you need to set all of your hot cues, when to press your hot cues. Then at the end of each video, we will practice how to mix between the two tracks smoothly using the cross fader. Then once we have prepared all of the tracks and practice mixing with them individually, I will then go ahead and do the full mix once again. But this time, you should be able to join in and do the exact same DJ mix yourself too. You don't need to be an expert to do this class, as I will walk you through step-by-step, everything you need to know and everything you need to do. But it does help if you have some basic DJ knowledge and you understand what all the buttons and dials do on your DJ controller. If you are a complete beginner and you want to learn the full basics and fundamentals of DJing, you can check out my full DJ course called The Complete DJ Course For Beginners, which teaches you all the techniques and fundamentals you need to know to DJ from start to finish. That being said, if you want to learn how to do a fast-paced, high-energy EDM DJ mix, then let's dive straight into it and watch the full mix that we are going to learn in the next video. See you there. 2. DJ Mix Demonstration: In this video, I'm going to quickly demonstrate to you the exact DJMix that you will be learning. I'm going to demonstrate to you the full mix first and then in each video after that, I will show you exactly how to prepare each individual track to be able to do this exact same DJMix. Once we have gone through and prepared each individual track, we will then do the full DJMix again together at the end, where you will then be able to join in and do the exact same DJMix yourself. I hope you enjoy it. [MUSIC] 3. Rekordbox - Quick Set Up: In this video, I'm quickly going to go through the settings you need when using Rekordbox to be able to do this DJ mix effectively. It makes it a lot easier if we both have the same settings as each other and the correct settings to be able to do this type of mixing. If you already have these settings on that I'm going to show you, that's great. But if not, you may just need to quickly change your settings to match the ones that I'm using. Firstly, we just need to go to the settings, click at the top and open up the settings, and then the first thing we need to do is go to View and then scroll down until you see waveform, and then just when we get to waveform, we need to make sure that the color is ticked as RGB for red, green, and blue, and that we also have full waveform selected as well. Then we need to go to the Controller tab and then select the Mixer tab. From here, we just need to make sure that the crossfader curve is in the center, so it looks like this one here. Then under the Controller tab, we just need to go to the tab that says Others, and then from here, what I advice is to make sure that the jump before reaching the next beat box is not selected. As standard, it'll have this as a tick, but for this one, we're just going to have it not selected. Then we need to make sure that all of these boxes here say enable and the boxes on the values all have the number 1 in there. Some of these are standard, maybe set to half a beat or a quarter beat, but we just need to make sure that they all have the one value in these boxes here, and then we can just go ahead and exit the settings. On the far left-hand side of the waveform at the top, we'll have a little arrow box. If we select that, it will allow you to zoom in and out of the waveform. What we need to do is just zoom all the way out on the waveform. Then when we were actually doing the mixes, we want to make sure that both these cues here are red and activated. This cue here, if it's not selected and red, just make sure that that cue is red and the one on the opposite side is also red and activated. This is just to make sure that quantize is activated when you're mixing, and what this will do is make sure that when you're using your hot cues, they stay in time with the track. Also when mixing, we just need to make sure that beat sync is enabled on both tracks. You should be able to have a sync button on your DJ controller. You just got to make sure that that is lit up and activated when you're doing your DJ mixes, and what this will do is make sure that your beat snap in time with each other, so both tracks are at the same time when you're doing your DJ mixes. Now, during these tutorials, we will be using a function called beat jump. If you're not sure how to use these on your DJ controller, there is a tab on each deck here on the DJ software that you can do a drop-down just here and find the beat jump function just on your software, select that, and the main one we're going to be using is the 32 bit. What this does is it jumps forwards and backwards in the track 32 beats. If you don't have that on your DJ controller, beat jump, you can just find it here on your software. Now that we have all the settings setup correctly for this DJ mix, we're ready to move on and prepare the tracks. See you in the next video. 4. Serato - Quick Set Up: In this video, I'm quickly going to go through the settings you will need when using Serato to be able to do this DJ mix effectively. It makes it a lot easier if we both have the same settings as each other and the correct settings to be able to do this type of mixing. If you already have these settings that I'm going to show you on, that's great. But if not, you may just need to quickly change your settings to match the ones that I'm using for this mix. What we need to do is just go to the settings cog in the top right-hand corner, and then go to the DJ Preferences tab. From here, we just need to make sure that Enable Hot Cues is selected on, the Show Beat Jump Controls is also selected on, and the Quantize Value is set to one beat. In the song load section, we just need to make sure we have Play From Start is selected on, but also we need Play From First Hot Cue Point also selected on. What that will do is when you load a song or with the hot cue, it will move the track straight away to the first hot cue of that track. That will come in handy throughout this mix. Then on sync mode, we just need to make sure that smart sync is selected. Once we've done that, we can exit the settings. Throughout these mix tutorials, we will be using the beat jump function. Most DJ controllers do have the beat jump function on them, but if not, you may need to use the software and you'll find the beat jump functions just here. It will be the second lots of numbers on the second line. The main one we'll be using is the number 32, and what this does is it jumps forwards and backwards in the track 32 beats. When we are doing the DJ mixes, we want to make sure that both tracks are synced on, and when we're pressing play on the next track, we want to make sure it has the gray sync. This means that the "Sync" button is armed, and when it is gray when you press "Play" on the next track, it will snap the beats in time together. If it is in blue or yellow, it won't do that. When using the beat sync, you want to make sure that the track that you're going to play next is selected gray. Also, when doing the mixes in these tutorials, you want to make sure that the quantize function is on. Up here in the top left-hand corner, there's a little "Q" button. If we select that, we need to make sure it's highlighted blue. This means that quantize is activated. What quantize does is when you're using your hot cues, it keeps the tracks in time so that when you're using the hot cues, the tracks don't grow out of time with each other. Unless they own the full waveform here, you can zoom in and out of this waveform all the way in and all the way out. The best view that I have found for the mixes is to zoom all the way out and then go back in once more. I find this view of the waveform most effective for this type of mixing. Now we have all the settings ready. We can move on to the next video and prepare the tracks. See you in the next video. 5. Playlist Preparation: In this video, we're going to put all the tracks together in a playlist and then put them in the correct order ready to do the DJ mix. If you haven't done so already, you will need to download all the tracks that we are going to be using from the resources which you should be able to find somewhere around this video, they will either be below this video or at the side of this video, depending on what platform you're watching them. Once you have downloaded the tracks, you will need to access your files on your laptop via the DJ software. You can do this by going to the Explorer tab on the left-hand side in record box, then finding the music tracks from there, or by going to the File tab at the top of the library in Serato and then finding your tracks through them. For example, I've clicked the Explorer tab here, gone to the Music's tab, which will be in my laptop, and then I find EDM mixed with me. Once you find where the downloaded tracks are on your laptop via the DJ software, you will need to put them in a separate playlist on the DJ software. What you'll need to do is scroll up on the library on the left-hand side, create a new playlist by clicking the plus icon, and then name the playlist, and then simply drag and drop the tracks into the playlist. Now I have all five trucks in a separate playlist ready to mix with. Then what we'll need to do is make sure that we have the right column showing on our library. We only really need two key columns, which is track title and the comments. If you do have any other columns, that's fine. As long as you make sure you have at least the track title and comments showing you a library. You can do this by right-clicking the titles tab and selecting which columns that you want to show in the library. As you can see here, we've got the preview of the waveform, the track title, and the comments. Once we've done that, we're going to put the tracks in the correct order, ready to do the DJ mix. The first track we're going to play is the track, I Love It. What we're going to need to do for that track is just put a 01 in the comments. That will represent that that is the first track we're going to play. Then on the track Hello, we're going to put 02 in the comments. Then on How Deep Is Your Love, we want 03 in the comments, and then on the track Something Just Like This we want 04 in the comments. Then on the last track, Shape Of You we want 05 in the comments. Now what you should be able to do when you click the comments title bar, it should put them in ascending order. Now we have our tracks in a playlist and in numbered order. We can now move on to the next video and start preparing the individual tracks. See you in the next video. 6. Track 1 Preparation: In this video, we're going to prepare the first track in the DJ mix, which is the track, I love it. We will just need to load the track up on Deck 1 on the left-hand side here, be ready to prepare. In this DJ mix, we will mainly be using hot cues to jump to different sections of the tracks. When prepared correctly, hot cues are very simple but effective way to manipulate your tracks. With hot cues you can easily jump to different sections of the track and play the sections you want to play at the exact time you want to play them. What we will ultimately be doing in this DJ mix is creating very short, condensed versions of each track that will only consist of the key most energetic parts of the track. We will be jumping to a different parts of the track every phrase, and also only mixing over the space of one phrase. This way, the mix will move very fast throughout the tracks and it will keep the energy high and entertaining throughout the DJ mix as there will always be something going on unchanging. If you are unsure what's a phrase is, a phrase consists of 32 beats. At the start of a phrase is generally where the significant changes happen in the track. For example, where the sounds will be added or taken away. Because significant changes in a track happen at the start of a phrase, this is also where we'll be doing our changes too. We will want to set our hot cues and do the changes in time with the phrases to make sure the DJ mix sounds good. In each track preparation video, we will be setting hot cues in the correct places, color-coding the hot cues, and also making notes on hot cues to let us know what actions we should be doing at that point in the track. This should make it a lot easier for us to perform the DJ mix as the hot cues should tell us exactly what we need to do. Then once we have prepared each track correctly, we can then go on and do the whole DJ mix at the end together. With that being said, let's start preparing the first track. The first hot cue that we should be setting on the track, I love it, is 16 beats before the first break. What we need to do is find where the first break is on the track. As you can see, the waveform reduces in size just here so that should be the start of the break. Let's have a listen to this. [MUSIC] Just here where the break starts. [MUSIC] I'm going to use the beat joint function and jump back 16 beats. From here, this is where we're going to set our first hot cue. So I'm just going to press the hot cue pad on my DJ controller and set the hot cue there, and also when we say each hot cue, I'm going to let you know what bar number it is. As you can see here on the waveform, it is set to 29.1. That is the exact point that you want to set the first hot cue. What we're going to do at this point is start the mix, and we're going to do it 16 beats before the break and filter in, so it sounds like this [MUSIC] What we're going to do on this hot cue is just right-click it, go to Add comments and just type in start mix filter in. Now when we see this hot cue, we know we should start the mix and filter it in. The next hot cue we're going to set is one phrase after the drop. The drop is the first beat of the chorus. We're going to find the drop of this track. [MUSIC] There it is, the drop of the track and we're going to set the hot cue one phrase from here. Again, using beat jump, we're going to jump forward 32 beats, and using my performance parts on the DJ controller, I'm just going to set the second hot cue just here. As you can see on the waveform, this will be set on Bar 69.1, but this time on the notes, we're going to right-click the hot cue and change it to a blue color, and then in the comments, we're going to add Jump to C. What we're going to do at this point, we're not going to press the blue hot cue. We're going to jump to Hot Cue C, which we're going to set now. The third hot cue, Hot Cue C will be the last phrase of Chorus 2, and this is going to be set at bar 141.1, so 141.1. I'm just going to find that bar now. Just here, this is where we're going to set Hot Cue C by 141.1. What we're going to do on the hot cue is right-click, Add Comment, and then in this one, we're just going to press. What happens when we get to Hot Cue B is we press the Hot Cue C and it will jump from Chorus 1 to Chorus 2. [MUSIC] When it gets to Hot Cue B we're going to press the Hot Cue C, and it should jump to that part of the track. Just like that. Then the last hot cue we're going to set for this track on Hot Cue D is the first phrase of the outro, and this is one phrase after Hot Cue C. If you put the play head on Hot Cue C, [MUSIC] then jump forward 32-bits using Beat Jump and this is where we're going to set our last hot cue on bar Number 149.1. I'm going to press my performance pad, set the hot cue just here, and this time in the notes, I'm going to right-click, change the color to blue again, and then on this one, I'm going to add in the comments mix out. This is the point in the trial. Well, we're going to mix out and mixed the next track in. As you can see here, we have two different color codes. We have green and blue. The blue color hot cues mean that at this point you need to do an action, and the action is usually to press the green hot cues. The green hot cues are the hot cues that you need to press. So you don't actually press the blue hot cues, they just tell you what to do and you press the green hot cues. This will become a lot more clearer as we go through each track and prepare them. I've also made it so the hot cues is going order from left to right. This should also make it easier to follow along with enjoying the DJ mix. As you can see, to make it even easier, we have included what to do in the comments at that hot cue. As you can see, the first one it says start mix filter in, and then it Hot Cue B, we jumped to Hot Cue C, then Hot Cue D, we're going to mix out. I'm quickly going to play this track to you and jump to the hot cues so you get an idea of what they do. First thing we're going to turn the filter dial all the way down to the left-hand side, on the low-pass filter side, then press Hot Cue A, and filter in over 16 beats. [MUSIC] At this point, we're just going to wait until it gets to Hot Cue B. [MUSIC] So now, as soon as it gets to Hot Cue B, as you can see on the notes, it says jump to C, so I'm going to press Hot Cue C at that point. [MUSIC] 1,2,3,4. Then we wait for Hot Cue D where it says mix out. At this point, we're going to press the mix track , and start mixing. But because we're not set up the next track just yet, we're not able to mix it, but that's exactly what we're going to do in the next video. There we have it. That's Track 1 prepared, and let's move on to the next video and get the second track ready. See you in the next video. 7. Track 2 Preparation: In this video, we're going to prepare the second track, ready for the DJ mix. Now, on the right-hand side on Deck 2, we have to track Hello. The first hot cue we're going to set on this track is one phrase before Drop 1. The Drop, as we know, is the first beat of the chorus. We're just going to find this here on the second track. [MUSIC] It's just that. What we're going to do is use beat jump function to jump back 32 beats, which is one phrase and this is the point where we're going to set our first hot cue. This is at bar number 78.1, and this is the point where we're going to mix in this track. So what we want to do is just leave a note on this hot cue on comments, say mix in. We're also going to keep it the same color as green. The second hot cue we're going to set is going to be one phrase after the drop. Again, using beat jump, we're going to jump forward, 32-beats back to the drop, and then from this point press the beat jump again. Now we are 32 beats after the drop. This is going to be where our second hot cue is going to be. This is at bar number 94.1. On the hot cue, we're going to change the color to blue, and then in the comments, we're just going to add jump to C. At this point, this is where we're going to press the next hot cue, which is going to be hot cue C and this is going to be set up bar number 163.1. This is going to be the last phrase of chorus 2. Let's quickly just find that. There we are. This is at bar 163.1 and we're going to set our third hot cue here. On the comments of this hot cue, we're just going to leave a comment saying press. Just so we know this is the hot cue that we need to press. What we should do when it gets to Hot Cue B, we're going to press Hot Cue C and jump to that point, just like this. [MUSIC] 1, 2, 3, 4. As you can hear, it's quite a smooth transition going from one phrase to another. The last hot cue we're going to set Hot Cue D is going to be at the first phrase of the outro, which is one phrase after Hot Cue C. So I'm just going to put the playhead back on Hot Cue C. [MUSIC] Then use the beat jump function to jump forward 32 beats. This should take us to bar number 171.1. This is where we're going to set our last hot cue. This is the start of the outro. From here, I'm going to change the color of the hot cue to blue, and in the notes, I'm just going to add a comment, say mix out. This is the point in the track we're going to start mixing out of this track and into the new one. Now I'm going to quickly demonstrate to you the first mix and talk you through it so you understand what's happening. Now the way we're going to be mixing these tracks together in this DJ mix is a very basic but effective way of mixing. All we're going to do is slowly move the crossfader across from one track over to the other track over the space of one phrase. The crossfader will start off completely all the way over to one side, the side of the track that is currently playing and then over the space of one phrase, we're slowly going to move the crossfader over to the other side, so by the end of the phrase is completely switched sides. When doing this mix, make sure you have beat sync on, on both tracks. Now both tracks are synced to about 128 beats per minute, and when I press play on the next track, they should snap in time with each other. Also we want to make sure that the Q1 quantize is activated on both tracks as well. Let's do the mix and I'll talk you through it. Crossfader is going to be over to the left-hand side, and let's go. [MUSIC] As Hot Cue D comes up on the track, I Love It, I'm going to press Hot Cue A on the track, Hello, 1, 2, 3, 4 and then slowly start moving the crossfader across over one phrase. [MUSIC] There you go. That is how you're going to do the mix. Nice, easy, smooth transition over one phrase. Then when it gets to Hot Cue D, I went to press Hot Cue C; 1, 2, 3, 4. Then when it gets to hot cue D, this is where we're going to load up the next track and press Hot Cue A on the next track when we preferred it. So as you can hear the outro beats. Now as a side note, if you do know how to use the equalizers, you can use the low-frequency equalizer to make the mix sounds smoother. You can do this by turning down the low frequency equalizer on the track that you are mixing out off during the mix at the same time as when you're moving the crossfader across. This way, the base coming in on the track next, will have more of an impact. I'm just going to quickly show you that mix as well, whilst using the low-frequency equalizers. I'm going to put the crossfader back across the left-hand side and I'll talk you through the mix. Again, when it gets to Hot Cue D on the track, I Love It, I'm going to press Hot Cue A on the track, Hello. This time when I'm moving the crossfader across, I'm also going to turn the low-frequency equalizer down on the left-hand side. [MUSIC] That is how we do the mix with the low-frequency equalizers as well. You would turn the low-frequency equalizer down as you are mixing on the track you're mixing out of. But if you're not comfortable using the equalizes just yet, doing a basic mix, just using the crossfader will be just fine. Now you might think, why don't we just make straight into the second chorus towards the end of the track, Hello. For example instead of mixing into the track Hello here at point A, why don't we just do it 32 beats before chorus 2? Now this is a good point, and it's possible to do this when mixing, you don't always have to mix into the first chorus. However, for this particular mix, the reason why we don't mix into the second chorus is because each drop of the track is not the same. This is also sometimes the case with other tracks too. For example, for this track chorus 1 has a vocal just before the track drops. Let's have a listen to that. [MUSIC] Just before chorus 2, it doesn't have a vocal leading up to it. Let's have a listen to this. [MUSIC] In the way that we are using the track today, it would sound better for us to mix into chorus 1 and then hot cue jump to the end of the track to mix out of it. Also for the purpose of this DJ mix, it helps us practice using our timing when using hot cues and jump into different sections of the track. For this reason going forward, we'll be using a similar structure to prepare the tracks. This is to keep the DJ mix consistent and easy to follow along with, but also at the same time making the mix fun and entertaining to listen to. Now that's track 2 prepared, let's move on to track 3. See you in the next video. 8. Track 3 Preparation: In this video, we are going to prepare the third track, ready for the DJ mix. Now on the left-hand side on deck 1, we have to track How Deep is Your Love. This is the track we're going to prepare next. The first hot cue that we're going to set on hot cue A is going to be one phrase before the first drop. Again, we just need to find the first drop, [MUSIC] Which is just here. Then what we're going to do is jump back 32 beats, one phrase using the beat jump function. This is where we're going to set the first hot cue on bar Number 49.1. We're going to leave this hot cue as green, and then in the comments, we're just going to add mix in. We know at this point here, this is where we're going to mix this track in. The second hot cue we're going to set, hot cue B, is going to be one phrase after the first drop, but then four beats back. What we're going to do is jump forward 32 beats, which is one phrase, and that should take us back to the first drop. Then we're going to jump again 32 beats forward, and that should take us to bar 65.1. But what we're going to do on this is wind it back four beats. Just here. Now it's on bar 64.1, and this is where we're going to set the second hot cue. At this point here, we're going to change the color to blue and then in the comments, we're going to add jump to C. Now I'll explain why we're doing it four beats back shortly in the video. But moving on, on the third hot cue on hot cue C, we're going to set on the last phrase of the second chorus, but again, four beats back from the start of a new phrase. This is going to be on bar number 136.1. I'm just going to find that bar now on the track. As you can see there, we find bar 136.1, and this is where we're going to set the third hot cue. Then from here, we're going to leave it as green and then in the comments we're just going to add press. As you can see here, it's four beats back from the next phrase. The reason for this is if you listen to the four beats now leading up to this phrase, there is a vocal that carries on over the start of the new phrase, so just have a listen to this. [MUSIC] Now, if we didn't do it from that point, it would go from having no vocals at all to the end of a vocal, so it wouldn't flow very well in the hot cue jump. If I move this back to the start of the phrase and we set this as the hot cue, it would start from here. [MUSIC] As you can hear, there's a slight bit of vocal carrying on from the first four beats. Now if I jump from B to C, it will have the vocalist and carry on a lot smoothly. I have a listen to this. [MUSIC] As you can hear there, jumping four beats before the phrase allows the vocal to come in. Because both hot cue user set four beats before the next phrase, it still times correctly with the mix. Now for the last hot cue we're going to set, it's going to be on the first phrase of the outro, which is one phrase after hot cue C, but it's going to be from the start of the phrase. What I'm going to do is wind this back [MUSIC] and put it there on bar 137, jump forward 32 beats. This is the point where we need to set the last hot cue. This will be on bar 145.1, so 145.1. This is where we're going to set the last hot cue. We're going to change the color code of it to blue and then also add the comments here, mix out. This is the point of the track where we're going to start mixing out of this one and into the new track. What I'll do now is I'll perform the mix for you, going from the track Hello into the new track, How Deep is Your Love. What I'm going to do is just use the crossfader to show you the mix on this one. I'm going to put it just before hot cue D on the track Hello. and then show you how to do this mix and jump through the track How Deep is Your Love. Let's have a listen, crossfader all the way over to the right-hand side. We've got both beatings on and quantize activated as well. Let's have a listen. [MUSIC] When it gets to hot cue D, we're going to press hot cue A and then slowly start moving a crossfader across over one phrase. Then when it gets to hot cue B, press hot cue C, but remember it's four beats early. One, two, three, four. Then the next hot cue is hot cue D where we'll start the next track. From hot cue D, it should be the start of the outro, so just as the track starts to wind down. That is the point where we're going to start mixing out of it into the next track, which we're going to prepare next in the next video. 9. Track 4 Preparation: In this video, I'm going to show you how to prepare the fourth track of this DJ mix. Note on the right-hand side, we have the track, something just like this on deck 2. On this track, the first hot cue we're going to set on hot cue A is going to be one phrase before the first drop. Again, we're going to find the first drop on this track [MUSIC] which is just here. Use the peak jump function to jump one phrase backwards, 32 beats, and just here at bar 49.1, we're going to set the first hot cue. We're going to keep it the color green and then just in the comments, we're going to add comments mix in. Again, this is the point we're going to mix the tracking slowly over one phrase. The second hot cue, hot cue B is going to be set 32 beats after the drop. Again, we're going to put B jump on, jump fall at 32 beats, ones, which takes us back to the drop, and then again one more time, which here takes us to bar number 65.1. From here we're going to set our second hot cue, and this one's going to be colored blue. In the comments, we're going to put jump to C. Our next hot cue, hot cue C is going to be off the last phrase of the second chorus. This is going to be on bar number 137.1. I'm going to find that bar quickly now. [MUSIC] just here, this is the last phase of the chorus 2, and this is going to be where we set the third hot cue. I'm going to keep it the color green and then change the text in it to press. Then once again, the last hot cue is going to be at the start of the outro, which is one phrase after hot cue C, which is here. We're going to use the B jump function to follow 32 beats. This is bar 145.11, so 145.1, I want to set the hot cue here. I want to change the color of this one to blue, and then in the comments, we're just going to add mix out. There the hot cue is now set up on the fourth track, something just like this, and you should be getting the idea of how we're setting these hot cues. Now I'm mixing through the tracks. This time I'm going to mix from the track, how deep is your love into something just like this, using the same mixing technique with the crossfader but this time, if you are familiar with the equalizers, I want to use the law of frequency equalizes to mix out. Then again, use the hot cues to show you how it's done to jump through the track. Let's have a listen to this one. A crossfader over on the left-hand side, both tracks of beats inked up. Quantize is activated. Let's go. [MUSIC] When it gets too hot cue B, I'm going to press hot cue A on the new truck, 1, 2, 3, 4. I'm going to slowly move across data across while to turning down the low-frequency equalizer. Then I'm going to press the hot cue B, I'm going to press the hot cue C, 1, 2, 3, 4. Again, you can hear that a smooth transition as it changes over the start of a new phrase. Just hot cue D as well. We're going to start mixing out of the track. There we go. We have the fourth track ready and set up for the DJ mix. Let's move on to the last track, track 5, and I'll see you in the next video. 10. Track 5 Preparation: In this video, what I'm going to do is show you how to prepare the fifth track of the DJ mix. This time on the left-hand side on Deck 1, we now have the track Shape Of You. This is going to be the last track that we're going to prepare. You're probably getting familiar with the way that we setting these hot cues now. I need to find the drop of this track Shape Of You and set a hot cue 32 beat just before it. [MUSIC] The drop is just here. I'm going to set the beat jump function back 32 beats and put our first hot cue just here. This is on bar number 65.1. We're going to keep it green and then add in the comments, mix in. Then the second hot cue is going to be one phrase after the drop, so we're going to jump forward two phrases from here. We're going to go forward 132 beats back to the drop and then another 32 beats. That should take us to bar number 81.1, and this is where we're going to set our second hot cue. Then we're going to color-code it blue and add in the comments, jump to C. For our third hot cue on hot cue C, we're going to set it on the last phrase of the chorus; on chorus two that is, and that is going to be on bar number 153.1. I want to find that bar note. It's just here, and this is where we want to set the third hot cue. Going to leave the color green and then change the comments to, Press. For the last hot cue, hit cue D is going to be one phrase forward from here, which would be the first phrase of the outro on bar 161.1. I'm going to use beat jump function, jump forward 32 beats, set the last hot cue here, and that's bar 161.1, change the color to blue and then the comments to, Filter out. Instead of mix out, this is the last track, this one's going to be filter out. Now we know that this point is the last track. We're going to slowly filter the tracker over one phrase. Also, what we're going to do on this drop is just hit the horn siren button as well [MUSIC] just for a little extra added effect. If you're not sure how to set the samplers and put the horn effects on, make sure you check out the full DJ course that I've done called the complete DJ course for beginners, and in that course it will show you how to set up the sampler. Now we're going to demonstrate the mix and jump through the track. Just to show you how this one is done. On this one, I'm going to use a basic mix of just using the cross fader. Let's have a listen to how that sounds. Cross fade is going to be all the way over to the right-hand side. Both tracks a beat sync top quantizes on, and let's have a listen. [MUSIC] When it gets too hot cue D, I'm going to press hot cue A on the left-hand side. Slowly move the cross fader across the [MUSIC] Then I just put the sampler [MUSIC] option on, hit the "Sample" button to get the horn effect. No I get to hot cue B, I'm going to press hot cue C. [MUSIC] As you can hear, there was smooth transition again between the phrases. [MUSIC] Then from here, D, I'm just going to turn down the photodiode over one phrase and then stop the truck. [MUSIC] There you have it. That is the fifth track now setup. Now we have all the tracks ready and set up. In the next video, we're going to do another full demonstration of the whole mix and know your tracks should be set up. You should be able to do the same mix yourself. Make sure you watch the next video where I do the full performance again, but with added extra visual cues so you can follow along with it, and I'll see you in the next video. 11. Final DJ Mix Demonstration: In this video, I'm now going to demonstrate to you the full DJ mix once again, but this time you should now have all the hot cues set up correctly on your own tracks. This means you should now be able to mix along and do the exact same DJ mix as I do. As I do the DJ mix, the video will also include pop-up instructions as well. As you are watching the mix, you should understand what to do. Also, for the purpose of this demonstration, I'll be using the low-frequency equalizes to mix with as well. But remember, if you don't feel comfortable using the low-frequency equalizer just yet, it will still work if you just want to use the crossfader by itself. However, watch me doing the DJ mix first and then give it a go yourself. Follow the instructions on the hot cues, work from left to right and you should have no problem following along with the mix. Good luck, and I hope you have lots of fun with it. Let's do it. I have the first track loaded up on the left-hand side. The second track loaded up on the right-hand side, crossfader is going to be all the way over to the left-hand side. I'm going to turn the filter dial all the way down to the low pass filter side and here we go. [MUSIC] 12. Congratulations!: Well done and congratulations for completing this class.
