This class will focus on Deep House, which is most commonly played a little slower than house music typically between 120 and 124 BPM (beats per minute) while House often ranges between 125 and 128.

In This Class You Will Learn:

  • How to use your hot cues effectively when DJing
  • How to mix your tracks together smoothly
  • How to organise and prepare your tracks correctly ready to DJ with

These skills are very useful, if not essential, when DJing either live to an audience or if you are recording a DJ mix to put online.

This class allows you to practice all these skills in a simple step by step guide that you can easily follow along with.

1. Welcome To The Class!: Hi, and welcome to this Skillshare class where you will learn a fast-paced, high-energy DJ mix. You will learn how to mix together five deep host tracks in just five minutes. This class is a great way for you to practice your DJ skills, learn some new techniques, and have fun all at the same time. For those that haven't met me before, my name is DJ Jack Bradley and I'm an international professional DJ. I have deejayed all around the world including places such as Thailand, Australia, France, Greece, and the UK. In those locations, I have deejayed in venues such as clubs, bars, pool parties, ball parties, and festivals. I have a huge range of DJ experience. In this Skillshare class, I'm going to teach you how to do a five-minute deep house DJ mix using some of the techniques that I use when I DJ live. All the tracks that are used in this class are available for you to download for free in the resources. This means you get to join in and follow along step-by-step and learn the exact same DJ mix as I do with the exact same tracks. In the next video, I will demonstrate to you the exact DJ mix that you will be learning. Then in the following videos after that, I'll walk you through step-by-step how to prepare each individual track ready for the DJ mix. I will show you exactly where you need to set all of your hot cues, when to press your hot cues, then at the end of each video, we will practice how to mix between the two tracks smoothly using the cross fader. Then once we've prepared all of the tracks and practice mixing with them individually, I will then go ahead and do the full mix once again. But this time, you should be able to join in and do the exact same DJ mix yourself too. You don't need to be an expert to do this class as I'll walk you through step-by-step, everything you need to know and everything you need to do. But it does help if you have some basic DJ knowledge and you understand what all the buttons and dials do on your DJ controller. If you are a complete beginner and you want to learn the full basics and fundamentals of deejaying, you can check out my full DJ course, called The Complete DJ Course for Beginners, which teaches you all the techniques and fundamentals you need to know to DJ from start to finish. That being said, if you want to learn how to do a fast-paced, high-energy, deep house DJ mix, then let's dive straight into it and watch the full mix that we are going to learn in the next video. See you there. [MUSIC] 2. Deep House DJ Mix Demonstraion: In this video, I'm going to quickly demonstrate to you the exact DJ mix that you will be learning. I'm going to demonstrate the full mix first and then in each video after that, I'll show you exactly how to prepare each individual track to be able to do this exact same DJ mix. Once we have gone through and prepared each individual track, we'll then do the full DJ mix again together at the end where you will then be able to join in and do the exact same DJ mix yourself. I hope you enjoy it and here it goes. [MUSIC] 3. Rekordbox - Quick Set Up: In this video, I'm quickly going to go through the settings you need when using Rekordbox to be able to do this DJ mix effectively. It makes it a lot easier if we both have the same settings as each other and the correct settings to be able to do this type of mixing. If you already have the settings on that, I'm going to show you, that's great. But if not, you may just need to quickly change your settings to match the ones that I am using. Firstly, we just need to go to the settings cog at the top and open up the settings. Then the first thing we need to do is go to, view and then scroll down until you see waveform. Then just when we get to waveform, we need to make sure that the color is ticked as RGB for red, green, and blue, and that we also have full waveform selected as well. Then we need to go to the controller top and then select the mixer tab. From here we just need to make sure that the crossfader curve is in the center, so it looks like this one here. Then under the controller tab, we just need to go to the tab that says, others. Then from here, what I advise is to make sure that the jump before reaching the next beat box is not selected. As standard, I'll have this as a tick, but for this one we're just going to have it not selected. Then we need to make sure that all of these boxes here say enable and the boxes on the values all have the number one in there. Some of these are standard, may be set to half a beat or a quarter beat, but we just need to make sure that they all have the one value in these boxes here. Then we can just go ahead and exit the settings. On the far left-hand side of the waveform at the top, we'll have a little arrow box. If we select that, it will allow you to zoom in and out of the waveform. What we need to do is just zoom all the way out on the waveform. Then when we are actually doing the mixes, we want to make sure that both these cues here are red and activated. This cue here, if it's not selected a red, just make sure that that cue is red and the one on the opposite side is also red and activated. This is just to make sure that Quantize is activated when you're mixing. What this will do is make sure that when you use in your hot cues they stay in time with the track. Also when mixing, we just need to make sure the beat sync is enabled on both tracks. You should be able to have a Sync button on your DJ controller. You just got to make sure that that is lit up and activated when you're doing your DJ mixes. What this will do is make sure that your beat snap in time with each other, so both tracks are at the same time when you're doing your DJ mixes. Now, during these tutorials, we will be using a function called beat jump. If you're not sure how to use these on your DJ controller, there is a tab on each deck here on the DJ software that you can do a drop-down just here and find the beat jump function just on your software. Select that. The main one we're going to be using is the 32-bit. What this does is it jumps forward and backwards in the track 32 beats. If you don't have that on your DJ controller, beat jump, you can just find it here on your software. Now that we have all the settings setup correctly for this DJ mix, we're ready to move on and prepare the tracks. See you in the next video. 4. Serato - Quick Set Up: In this video, I'm quickly going to go through the settings you will need when using Serato to be able to do this DJ mix effectively. It makes it a lot easier if we both have the same settings as each other and the correct settings to be able to do this type of mixing. If you already have the settings that I'm going to show you on, that's great. But if not, you may just need to quickly change your settings to match the ones that I'm using for this mix. What we need to do is just go to the settings cog in the top right-hand corner, and then go to the DJ Preferences tab. From here, we just need to make sure that enable hot cues is selected on, the show beat jump controls is also selected on, and the quantized value is set to one beat. In the Song Load section, we just need to make sure we have play from start is selected on, but also we need play from first hot cue point also selected on. What that will do is when you load a song with a hot cue, it will move the track straight away to the first hot cue of that track, and that will come in handy throughout this mix. Then on sync mode, we just need to make sure that smart sync is selected. Once we've done that, we can exit the settings. Throughout these mixed tutorials, we will be using the beat jump function. Most DJ controllers do have the beat jump function on them, but if not, you may need to use the software and you'll find the beat jump functions just here. So it will be the second lot of numbers on the second line. The main one we'll be using is the Number 32, and what this does is it jumps forwards and backwards in the track 32 beats. When we are doing the DJ mixes, we want to make sure that both tracks are synced on, and when we're pressing "Play" on the next track, we want to make sure that it has the gray sync. This means that the Sync button is armed, and when it is gray, when you press "Play" on the next track, it will snap the beats in time together. If it is in blue or yellow, it won't do that. When using the beat sync, you want to make sure that the track that you're going to play next is selected gray. Also, when doing the mixes in these tutorials, you want to make sure that the quantize function is on. Up here in the top left-hand corner, there's a little Q button. If we select that, we need to make sure it's highlighted blue. This means that quantize is activated. What quantized does is when you're using your hot cues, it keeps the tracks in time, so that when you're using the hot cues, the tracks don't go out of time with each other. Lastly, on the full waveform here, you can zoom in and out of this waveform all the way in and all the way out. The best view that I have found for the mixes is to zoom all the way out and then go back in once more. I find this view of the waveform most effective for this type of mixing. Now we have all the settings ready, we can move on to the next video and prepare the tracks. See you in the next video. 5. Playlist Preparation: In this video we're going to put all the tracks together in a playlist and then put them in the correct order ready for the DJ mix. If you haven't done so already, you will need to download all the tracks that we are going to be using from the resources which you'll be able to find somewhere around this video. They will either be below the video or the side of this video, depending on which platform you are watching on. Once you have downloaded the tracks you will need to access your files on your laptop via the DJ software. You can do this by going to the Explorer tab on the left hand side of the library, clicking the drop-down arrow at the side. Or if you are using Serato go into the File tab at the top of the library to be able to access your files from there. Then in the Explorer tab, you want to find the tracks that you have downloaded. Here we have deep house mix, and these are the tracks that we would have downloaded. Once you have found where the downloaded tracks are, you'll need to put them in a separate playlist on your DJ software. In library on the left-hand side you can scroll it to playlists. Then on the playlist tab, just click the plus icon on the far right hand side. You can go ahead and name the play list just like I've done here, Deep House Mix With Me, and then go and find the tracks from your laptop. Select them all, and then transfer them over to the playlist by just simply dragging and dropping over to the playlist. Now we have them here in the playlist on the software. The next thing we'll need to do is to make sure we have the right columns showing on our library. We just need to make sure we have at least these two columns showing, which is track title and the comments columns. If you do have any other columns showing that's fine, such as here we have BPM and key, but as long as we make sure we have the track title and comments columns we should be okay. We can change the columns by right-clicking the title bar along the top of the library and then just selecting which columns we want. Here now we can see we just have the track title and comments. Once we've done that we are going to put the tracks into the correct order for the DJ mix. The first track is going to be Ocean Drive, and in the comments here, we're just going to put 01. Then the second track is going to be Paradise, which is going to be 02 in the comments. Then the third track is going to be Human, so we need to put 03 in the comments for that track. The fourth track is going to be Rupture, which is going to be 04 the comments. The last track is going to be Promiscuous, which is going to be 05 in the comments. What this enables us to do is to click the comments tab at the top of the column and it should put them in ascending order. Now they're in order for us ready to mix with. Once we have our tracks in a playlist and in numbered order we can now move on to the next video and start preparing the individual tracks. See you in the next video. 6. Track 1 Preparation: In this video, we're going to prepare the first track in the DJ mix. Now, on the left-hand side on deck 1, we have the first track, which is Ocean Drive. In this DJ mix, we will mainly be using hot cues to jump to different sections of the tracks. When prepared correctly, hot cues are very simple but effective way to manipulate your tracks how you want them. With hot cues, you can easily jump to different sections of the track and play the sections that you want to play at the exact time you want to play them. What we will be ultimately doing in this DJ mix is creating very short versions of each track that will only consist of the key most energetic parts of the track that we want to play. We will be jumping to a different part of the track every phrase or every two phrases, and also only mixing over the space of one or two phrases. This way, the mix will move very fast through the tracks and it will keep the energy high and entertaining throughout the DJ mix, as they will always be something going on and changing for the audience. If you aren't sure what a phrase is, a phrase consists of 32 beats. At the start of a phrase is generally where significant changes happen in the track. For example, where signs will be added or taken away. Because significant changes in a track happen at the start of phrases, this is where we will be doing our changes too. This is where we will be setting our hot cues so the tracks change in time with the natural structure. If you want to learn more about phrases and still don't fully understand them after this DJ mix, you can always check them out on my full DJ course called The Complete DJ Course for Beginners, which explains everything you need to know to learn how to DJ. In each track preparation video, we will be setting hot cues in the correct places, color-coding the hot cues, and also making notes on the hot cues. This is to let us know what action we should be doing at each point in the track. This should make it a lot easier for us to perform the DJ mix as the hot cue should tell us exactly what we need to do. Once we have each track correctly prepared, we will then go on and do the whole DJ mix at the end together. So that being said, let's start preparing our first track. So the first hot cue we're going to set here on Ocean Drive is going to be eight beats before the vocals come in, and that's going to be at bar number 47.1. We just need to find that now here on this track. It should be around this area here on the start of the break. Let's have a listen to this to where the vocals come in. [MUSIC] I'm just going to wind that back slightly. [MUSIC] So this here is the key point that we're going to want to introduce. We're going to go back eight beats from here. So you can use beat jump if you want to, or you can just wind it back because it's only a short number of beats. So I'm just going to go back eight beats now just to here on bar number 47.1, and this is going to be our first hot cue. I'm just going to press the control of that on the hot cue performance pads and save that hot cue. What we're going to do here is right-click the hot cue. Now, we can change the colors and the comments. We're going to leave the color green, but change the comment to start mix. What we're going to do at this point is just filter the tracking over eight beats to get to the point where the vocals come in so it sounds like this. I'm going to turn the low-pass filter down all the way to the left-hand side, press the first hot cue, and then filter it in over eight beats, [MUSIC] and that is how we're going to start the mix. The second hot cue we're going to set is one phrase after the drop. So what we're going to do is find the drop on this track. Here on the waveform, you can see where it goes red, this looks like the chorus, and the drop is the first beat of the chorus. So let's have a listen to this. [MUSIC]. So just on that first beat there. [NOISE] So this is the drop of the chorus, and we're going to go 32 beats after this. So using beat jump, we're going to jump forward 32 beats, which is one phrase, and then set the second hot cue just here. So this is on bar number 73.1. Now, this time we're going to right-click the hot cue on the software and change the color to blue, and then also change the comments. I'm going to right-click again, change comments., and I'm going to jump to C. What this does is it tells us at this point on this hot cue, we're going to jump to hot cue C, and press that hot cue, and hot cue C is going to be one phrase after the second drop. We find the second drop here towards the end of the track. [MUSIC] So that is the second drop. So I'm going to wind it back to the first beat. From here, I'm going to jump forward one phrase, which is 32-beats. [NOISE] This here is at bar number 129.1, and this is going to be our third hot cue. This one we're going to leave the color green, but in the comments we're going to put in press. So we know this is the button and this is the hot cue we need to press. So what will happen here is when we get to hot cue B, we will jump all the way over to hot cue C towards the end of the track. And because we're working in terms of phrases, it should still time right with the track structure. So let's have a listen to this. [MUSIC] 1, 2, 3, 4. So as you can hear there, it starts a new phrase and the vocal starts again. So then we get a nice seamless transition between the hot cues. The last hot cue we're going to set on this track is going to be one phrase after hot cue C. I want to wind this track back now. Now, we're back to hot cue C. I'm going to use beat jump to jump forward 32 beats, and now we should be on bar number 137.1, and we want to set our last hot cue just here. I'm going to change the color of the hot cue to blue and then change the comments to mix out. This is the point in the track where we're going to start mixing out of it, where it starts to reduce down and we can bring the next track in. Throughout this DJ mix, you'll notice we are using two different colors for the hot cues. This is so it'll make it much easier for us when we're doing the DJ mix. The blue color hot cues means that this point, you need to do an action, and the action is usually to press the next green hot cue. The green hot cues are the hot cues that you need to press. For example, when it gets to hot cue B, it will say jump to C, but we don't actually press that hot cue, we press the next one, which is green and says press. So you don't actually press the blue hot cues, they tell you what to do. And the green hot cues are the ones that we will actually be pressing. It'll become more clear and easier to understand the colors as we go through the tracks and prepare them. I've also made it so that the hot cues go in order from start to finish. This is also making it easier to follow along during the DJ mix. You go from hot cue A, to B, to C, to D, and then on the next tracker with the same sequence. Then as you can see, to make it even easier, we have also included what to do in the comments. So you can read the hot cue, follow instructions as well. So what I want to do now is quickly go through this track using the hot cues and talk you through it as I do it. When doing this mix, we also need to make sure that quantized is activated on our DJ controller. This will help us keep in time when pressing the hot cues. So the first thing we're going to do is turn the low-pass filter down all the way over to the left-hand side. Then over eight beats, we're going to filter the tracking. [MUSIC] At this point now, we just want to listen to the break, await the tract to drop. Now, as we're getting on to hot cue B, we need to get ready to press on cue C. 1, 2, 3, 4. So that is jump from chorus 1 to chorus 2C seamless there. That point though, hot cue B as well, press the next tract and start doing the mix. So there you have it. That is the first track now prepared. Let's move on to the next video and get the second track prepared. See you in the next video. 7. Track 2 Preparation: In this video, we're going to prepare the second track ready for the DJ mix. On the right-hand side here, we have the track, Paradise Now, on deck 2. On this track, we're only going to set two hot cues. On the first hot cue, we're going to set one phrase and eight beats before the second drop. So firstly, I'm just going to find the second drop, which will be around this area here. We can see the second break leading up to the second drop and the chorus. Now the reason why we have to set the hot cue one phrase and eight beats backwards from here is because there is a short eight beat break just before the drop. If you have a listen around this area here, there'll be a short eight beat break leading up to the drop. So this will be the whole buildup of the track. Then from here will be that the end of the phrase of the buildup, then there'll be eight beats leading to the drop. So have a listen to this. [MUSIC] So as you can hear there, there's a little gap of eight beats like a bridge between the build-up and the drop. We have to take this into account when mixing. So what I'm going to do is wind the track back to eight beats before the drop. So just here, I'm at bar 123.1. From this point, I'm going to jump back 32 beats using beat jump. This is where we're going to set our first hot cue. Here we're at bar number 115.1, and this is where the first hot cue is going to be set. This is the start of a new phrase. When the vocal starts on the buildup, this is when we're going to mix in to the previous track, Ocean Drive. So just have a quick listen to this. [MUSIC] So that's the point we're going to mix into the track, Ocean Drive. We want to be mixed out of the track, Ocean Drive, by the end of this phrase, which is eight bits for the drop. So I'm just going to play this again. [MUSIC] So it's just at this point here that we want to mix out of the track, Ocean Drive, completely. I will explain this a little clearer when I do the mix towards the end of this video. [MUSIC] So now the second hot cue we're going to set on hot cue B is going to be two phrases from the drop. So we're here at the drop now, the first beat of the second chorus, and I'm going to use beat jump once again to jump forward two phrases 1, 2. So now we're at bar number 141.1. I'm going to set the second hot cue just here. So for this hot cue, I'm going to change the color to blue and also change the comment to mix out. Also if you've noticed for the first hot cue, I forgot to add a comment on that, so we're going to leave it green and then change the comments to mix in. Now we've got two hot cues, one mix in, one mix out. The first way I'm going to show you how to mix this track into Ocean Drive is going to be a very basic but effective way of mixing. Now, if you've watched any of the other mix with me, you will know that we generally move the cross fader slowly from one side to the other over the space of one phrase. But this time we're going to do it slightly different. So instead of starting with the cross fader all the way over to one side on the track that is currently playing, we're actually going to start with a cross fader already slightly over towards the center. So I would say around a third of the way over. So not completely in the middle, but not completely over to the left-hand side, around a third of the way over. This way, when we start the next track, you can hear the vocals come in straight away, given more impact to the mix. Then after we've started the next track, we can then mix as normal and move the cross fader across slowly over one phrase. So I'm going to show you how that mix is done now and listen out for the vocals coming in straight away as soon as I hit hot cue A. So this time I'm going to put the cross fader slightly over towards the center. I'll talk you through the mix. So I'm going to start the track, Ocean Drive, towards the end. Then when it gets to hot cue D, I'm going to press hot cue A on the track, Paradise, and then slowly move the cross fader across as normal. Let's have a listen. [MUSIC] Ready? 1, 2, 3, 4. As you can see, then I got the cross fader all the way over to the other side, eight beats before the drop. Now when you're doing the mix, make sure you have both beat syncs on and both quantize activated on the tracks as well. This way, when you press play, the tracks will snap in time together and be at the same speed. Now as an extra touch to the mix, if you know how to use the equalizers on the mixer, you can use the low-frequency equalizer to make the mix sound a little smoother. You can do this by turning down the low-frequency equalizer on a track that you are mixing it off during the mix. This way, the base that's coming in on the next track will have more of an impact during the mix. So I'll show you that one more time. This time I'll show you how to turn down the low-frequency equalizer at the same time as moving the cross fader across. So I'm going to put the cross fader slightly over towards the middle. The track, Ocean Drive, once again near the end. Both tracks of beat sync up and quantize is activated. Let's have a listen to this mix. [MUSIC] So when it gets to hot cue D, I'm going to press hot cue A on this track. 1, 2, 3, 4. Now I'm going to slowly turn down the low frequency equalizer, move the cross fader across. So there you have it, you have the option as well to turn down the low-frequency equalizers on the track that you're mixing out of. But as I've mentioned, if you're not familiar with the equalizers, that's fine, you can just use the cross fader to go across to the other side. If you do want to learn more about using the equalizers where mixing, you can head over to my full DJ course after this mix called The Complete DJ Course for Beginners. It teaches you everything you need to know to learn how to DJ from start to finish. So that being said, we now should have track 2 prepared. Let's move on to track 3 in the next video. 8. Track 3 Preparation: In this video, I'm going to show you how to prepare the third track of the DJ mix. Now on the left-hand side on deck 1, we have the track Human. The first track we're going to set on this track is at the start of the break and at the start at the vocals. This is going to be on bar number 33.1, so let's find this in the track. You can see the breakdown here. We have the intro and then the break, and then the chorus, so it should be around this area here. [NOISE] We found it just here at 33.1, is going to be where we set our first hot cue. Now on this hot cue I'm going to leave it as green by adding the comments mix in, but I'm also going to add in 2P. The 2P stands for two phrases. For this mixing, we're going to do it over two phrases instead of one. But I'll show you how to do that at the end of this video. If we just quickly listen from this hot cue, this is how we are going to mix into the previous track, Paradise and the vocals come in straight away on this as well, so have a listen. [MUSIC] That is the point where we're going to mix into the new track Human. The second hot cue we're going to set hot cue B is going to be two phrases after the drop. Firstly, what we want to do is find the drop which is around this area here on the waveform. Let's have a quick listen. [MUSIC] Just at that point there we're going to wind the track back. [NOISE] Bar number 50.1, that's going to be the drop. We need to jump to phrases from here using beat jump. I'm going to jump forward 1,2 phrases. Now we should be at bar number 66.1 and this is where we are going to set our second hot cue. We want to change the color of the hot cue to blue and then change the comments to jump to C. The third hot cue we're going to set, which is going to be hot cue C, is going to be two phrases from here. We want to use the beat jump function again to jump forward two phrases, 1,2 and now we should be at bar number 82.1 and this is where we're going to set the third hot cue. On this hot cue we're going to leave as the color green but then in the comments we're going to add press. Now the reason why we jump in this section I'm skipping it out, is because it doesn't have any vocals in that section so we're going straight from vocals to vocals. If you just have a listen to where hot cue B is, you'll hear the vocals go out. [MUSIC] What we're going to do at that point is jump to the next part of the track that has vocals in. I'm just going to show you how to do that.[MUSIC] 1, 2, 3, 4 [MUSIC]. As you can hear that for this style of mixing that we're doing, going from vocals to vocals is a lot more entertaining. The last hot cue we're going to set hot cue D is going to be one phrase after hot cue C so I'm going to spin the track back to hot cue C. [NOISE] Then from here we're going to use beat jump to jump forward 32 beats and now we should be at bar number 90.1, and this is going to be our fourth hot cue. I'm going to change the color of this hot cue to blue, then also adding the comments, mix out. This is the point of the track we're going to mix out of this track into the next track. Now we have a hot cue setup on the track Human, I'm going to show you how to mix it into the track Paradise. We're going to do with a similar style of mixing to the previous mix, where we're going to start with the crossfader already partly over to the center of the crossfader. This way the vocals will come in straight away on the track Human and then what we're going to do is slowly move the crossfader across over two phrases instead of one. Whilst also, at the same time I went to turn the baseline down and the low frequency equalizer on the track Paradise. I'm going to show you how to do that mix now and talk you through it so I'm going to start with the crossfader already slightly over to the center, around a third of the way over towards the center and then when it gets to hot cue B on paradise, I'm going to press hot cue A on the track coming in Human. Let's have a listen to that mix. [MUSIC] Here we have some vocals on paradise and as soon as that goes out, at hot cue B and I'm going to press hot cue A on the new track. 1, 2, 3, 4. [MUSIC] Now I'm going to slowly start moving the crossfader across turn in the baseline down on paradise. That is how we do that mix there and then we're going to wait for hot cue B jump to hot cue C. Again jumping from vocals to vocals 1, 2, 3, 4. Then here hot cue D is when we press the next track. There hot cue D will start mixing, go and start mixing in the next track that we're going to prepare it in the next video. Remember, when you're doing that style of mixing as well, if you feel confident enough, you can use the low-frequency equalizers. If not, using just the crossfader, will do just fine. Now we have track 3 setup. Let's move on and prepare track 4, and I'll see you in the next video. 9. Track 4 Preparation: In this video, I'm going to show you how to prepare the fourth track of the DJ mix. Now, on the right hand side on deck two, we have the track Rupture. The first hot cue we're going to set on this track is going to be one phrase before the baseline comes in. On the track here the baseline comes in around this point on the wave form. We have the intro and then the kick drum comes in, there's a short break, and then the baseline comes in. Let's have a listen. [MUSIC] I'm just going to wind it back to the start of the bass [NOISE] and then from here, I'm going to jump backwards 32 beats. Now, we're at bar number 25.1 and this is where we're going to set the first hot cue. I'm going to lead the hot cue color green but change the comments to mix in. This is the point in the track where we're going to mix into the other track, Human. The second hot cue we're going to set, hot cue B is going to be eight beats before the bass comes in. I'm going to beat jump back to the start of the bass which is just here and now what I'm going to do is wind the track back eight beats. [NOISE] We should now be here at bar number 31.1. I'm going to set the second hot cue just here. I'm going to change the color of the hot cue to blue and add in the comments jump to C. When we're mixing this track in, we're not actually going to let it get to the baseline. We're going to actually do a hot cue jump during the mix, and I'm going to show you how to do that shortly. The next hot cue, hot cue C that we're going to jump to is going to be eight beats before the vocals come in on the track and it's going to be two phrases from this point. What I'm going to do is pop beat jump on and jump forward two phrases, one, two. Now, it should be at bar number 47.1. This is where our third hot cue is going to go, hot cue C. I'm going to leave the color green and then change the comments to press. What we want to do during the mix is jump from hot cue B to hot cue C so this way at the end of the mix, the vocals come in. If you have a listen to this drop. [MUSIC] As you can hear that the vocals come in on that drop as opposed to the drop where hot cue B is. From here during the mix, when it gets to hot cue B, we're going to press hot cue C and they are both eight beats before the drop. So it should still time right with the phrases. Let's have a listen. [MUSIC] One, two, three, four. [MUSIC] We're going to have to do that during the mix. The last hot cue we're going to set on this track, hot cue D is going to be one phrase before the drop of the chorus. The chorus that I'm talking about is going to be around here on the waveform. Let's have a listen to this. [MUSIC] What we're going to do is set a hot cue 32 beats before this drop. I'm going to wind the track back slightly. We're on the drop bar. I'm going to use beat jump to jump back 32 beats and this is where we're going to set hot cue D, our forth hot cue. I'm going to change the color to blue and then add in the comments mix out. Again, at this point we're not actually going to let the track drop. We're going to mix out of this point into another drop of another track that I'm going to show you in the next video. So I'm going to quickly show you how to do this mix from Human into Rupture and then jump through the track Rupture as I talk you through it. Now, because there's no vocals straightaway in the track Rupture we can start with the cross fader all the way over to one side, and then slowly push it across over one phrase. Then just before we get to completely the other side, we're going to press the hot cue C so we have a different drop at the end of the mix. I'm going to start with the cross fader all the way over to the left hand side. This time start the track Human from hot cue C, and I'll talk you through it. [MUSIC] When it gets to hot cue D, I'm going to press hot cue A on this side, then move the cross fader across, and then when it goes to hot cue B, press hot cue C. That is how you do that mix. As you're doing it, you have to make sure you're ready for hot cue B coming up to press hot cue C during the mix. I'm going to show you that mix one more time but this time use the low frequency equalizer. You do have to be quick with this mix and do have to be on the ball. I'll show you one more time. Just put the cross fader all the way over to the left hand side and press hot cue C on the track, Human. [MUSIC] This time I'm going to move the cross fader across and use the low frequency equalizer at the same time. One, two, three, four. Get ready for hot cue C. But remember, using the low frequency equalizer is just an option for a smoother transition. Using just the cross fader it will be just fine. Now, we have the fourth track setup and ready. We're now going to prepare that last fifth track in the next video. See you then. 10. Track 5 Preparation: In this video, I'm going to show you how to prepare the fifth track for the DJ mix. Now on the left-hand side on deck 1 we have to track, Promiscuous. The first hot cue you're going to set on this track is going to be one phrase before the drop of the second chorus. As you can see here, this is going to be break number 2, and this will be chorus number 2. Let's have a listen to that. [MUSIC] Just here is the drop of the second chorus, and we're going to jump back 32 bits from here. This is where our first hot cue is going to be at bar number 81.1. I'm going to leave the color of this green and then change the comment to mix in. This is the point in the chat we're going to mix into the track rupture. The second hot cue we're going to set, hot cue B, is going to be one phrase after the drop, but four beats back. What I'm going to do is go back to the drop. I'm back here on the drop of the track, and then we'll jump forward 32 beats, but now from here, I'm going to go backwards four beats. [MUSIC] Now we should be at bar number 96.1, and this is where our second hot cue is going to be. What I'm going to do is change the color to blue, and then in the comments put, jump to C. The third hot cue we're going to set hot cue C is going to be one phrase forward from this point. What I want to do is go back to beat jump, jump forward one more phrase, and now we should be at bar number 104.1, and this is going to be where our third hot cue is. I'm going to leave it the colored green and then change the comments to press. Now, as you can see here from this point, there is a slight forward beat break. Let's have a listen to that. [MUSIC] As you can hear, there's a slight vocal just before it. This is the reason why we've put it forward four beats on the last two hot cues, so it should sound something like this. [MUSIC] One, 2, 3, 4. [MUSIC] It should now still be in time with the track's natural structure and phrases, but both hot cues are four beats before the start of the phrase. This is just so you fit the vocals at the start of this phrase. The last hot cue we're going to set is hot cue D, and it's going to be at the last phrase of the chorus. This is going to be at bar number 113.1. This is going to be around this area here on the waveform. I'm just going to find the bar 113.1. [MUSIC] It's just here. I'm going to set the fourth hot cue just here, and then change the color to blue, and then in the comments, I'm going to put, filter out. This is going to be the end of the mix where we're just going to use the filter dial to filter the track out for the end of the mix. What I'm going to do now is show you how to mix auto Rapture into the new track, Promiscuous. Let's just start the track rupture just before hot cue D, and also the crossfader is going to start all the way over to the right-hand side. Then over the space of one phrase, I'm going to slowly move the crossfader across to the left-hand side to the track, Promiscuous. In this mix, we don't necessarily have to use the law of frequency equalizes because it's a break on top of a break, there's no baselines in the tracks so we can just use the crossfader for this mix and it'll be just as effective. Let's have a listen to that mix. [MUSIC] One, 2, 3, 4, and I'll slowly move the crossfader across. As you can hear that replaced the drop on Rapture to the drop from Promiscuous. Then when it gets to hot cue B, I'm going to press "Hot Cue C." Then from here when it gets to hot cue D we're going to slowly filter the track. [MUSIC] There you have it. That is how you do the last mix of this DJ mix. In the next video, I'm going to do the full performance again of all the tracks mixing into each other, and you should be able to join along as well and use the same hot cues and do the same mixes. I'm also going to include some pop-up instructions as well with the mix, so you can follow along and watch what I do so you understand it fully. Let's have a watch of that and I'll see you in the next video. 11. Full Deep House DJ Mix Demonstration : In this video, I'm now going to demonstrate to you the full DJ mix once again, but this time you should now have all the hotkey setup correctly on your own tracks and also have had a practice with them too. This means now you should be able to mix along and do the exact same DJ mixers I do. As I do the DJ mix, the video will also include pop-up instructions as well. So as you are watching the mix, you should understand what to do. For the purpose of this demonstration, I will be using in the low-frequency equalizes to mix width. But remember, if you don't feel comfortable using the law of frequency equalizes just yet, it will still work if you just want to use the cross fader by itself. Have a watch me doing the DJ mix first and then give it a go yourself. If you follow the hot cues that you've set up and prepare correctly, you should have no problem doing this Dj mix. Good luck, and I hope you have lots of fun with it. Let's do it. [MUSIC] 12. Congratulations!: Well done and congratulations for completing this class.
