1. Welcome To the Class: Hello and welcome to this class. My name is Hayley, and today we are going to be diving into the ocean and we are going to be painting together a way swimming in the ocean with bucket effects and other beautiful details and elements. I will guide you to the whole process. Starting from the transferring of the template, which you can download in the resources for this class. And then we're going to select the color palette together, made the color charts together, and then we are going to proceed to paint are beautiful way in a beautiful ocean like this. In this class, I am focusing on the basics. I will teach you how to paint the whale and how to add some beautiful elements to the background, the water, the ocean. But I went to lead to a bit, a bit of room. So you can use your own creativity. Martin, that we are going to be discussing during the class. Remember that you can follow me here on SKT chip so you don't miss any new class or any Ozma of my other classes and conversation that I shared with you monthly. You can also follow me on Instagram if you have one. So when you share your class project or your creations to contact me and I can go there and see what did we do for creation looks like and leave a comment and it's connect with you. So that is all for this video. Let's jump into the class. I will see you in the next video. 2. The Supplies: Let's take a look at the splice that we are going to be using watercolor paper. This is fundamental for this class I then using ashes. And it is in the size A5, you can use any other sites that you have and it is 100% cotton cold press. Do we also need different sizes of brushes? Make sure you have a verifying and a middle and a bigger one. The color palette for the watercolors. We are going to be talking about a specific color in the next video. Some paper to make the color chats. Some paint markers or white paint in black paint, wash, it can be used as well, a flat brush and a bamboo stick. A container to mix watercolors, salt to make some effects. A clean towel, clean water to clean your brushes, a paper, and a coin to make some fun. Effects in the water. To start, do need to transfer the template of the illustration that we are going to be painting. And you can download it in the resources for this class. Underneath this video, please make sure you have some erasers and a pencil to transfer dude illustration onto paper. Okay? So this is this for this video, I will see you in the next video. 3. The Color Chart: For the corner chart, we need some paper and a brush and water. And the color palette that we are going to be using is the, is the following. Payne's, gray and turquoise. Let's start with the turquoise one. And let's try this beautiful watercolor on the paper. Try to make the front darker to more diluted pigment. And you will have an idea on how you can work it out in your illustration work later when we start painting or beautiful whale swimming in a beautiful ocean. Now let's try the grays. Payne's gray. This color is fantastic to make some contrast and depth in your painting. And you're going to use it very beautifully to create that effect. Lastly, let's see how our ultramarine blue reacts when we paint on the paper. You can use another color palette that you prefer. Lead a Jew creativity flows. I always tell you, then, take this as granted. Used to creativity. This is the whole point of being an artist, an experiment. I will see you in the next video. 4. Transfering the Whale Template: Okay, If you have your template, the illustration of the whale, printed, then please start to transfer it onto paper. I am using the iPad for like a lamp and then I can transfer my illustration of the way onto my paper. I will just fix the paper onto the iPad so it doesn't move too much. And then I will start tracing it with my pencil, which is a watercolor pencil that will not stay on the paper and it gets diluted when I applied the watercolor and the water. You can use any technique for transplanting templates onto the watercolor paper. Or you can paint your way just by looking at it if you are good with a drawing. So these are very beautiful process and you can hear make the whale began in the hypothesis. You can make it bigger or smaller. You can duplicate it the illustration and make more whales together. Or you can flip the position of the wine if you desire to have your way in other particular position. So remember, use your creativity and let your creative juices flow to have the whale asked you what does my way to my watercolor paper? And now I will fix this little treasure onto a cardboard to start then painting with. I do this because I like to maintain my work space very clean. And I want to make a liter frame on the paper where my painting will be. So it doesn't make such a mess. Oh, my workspace. As you want. If you have a block for papers, this is totally okay. Or you can use this as the same technique. You can also fix a doer paper onto your desk to have more control when you are painting the background and the way it sets. Another idea is you can print the template for the illustration directly onto your watercolor paper. And that will be amazing. You can use a very light gray color so the lines doesn't show up too much if you don't want that. So I have my paper fixed and now I'm ready to paint. I will see you in the next video. 5. Whale Illustration: Background: All the materials we need, we have our illustration on the paper transfer. I have this barrage of this flat brush for the program, but you can use any brush you have round or flat, or bigger or smaller. It doesn't matter. The thing is we want the background to be wet before we start painting with the turquoise color. We will also add a duplicate your effects and for that you need the coin and the paper. More on that later. First, we needed to make the make the paper wet with just with clean water. I'm using this flat brush because it's easier. But if you are using a bigger Canvas is also very helpful. Or if you're using a smaller canvas, then smaller, a smaller brush, it will be easier for you to make the bucket down wet. We're going through all the space. Leaving the whale itself on coach with the word, because we want just to paint the background. We want, we want the paper to be wet. So make sure you have enough water in your brush, but not too much that you make damage your paper. Now we have just applied in the fierce color we choose. In this case, I'm choosing the turquoise for the fifth column. And to make it easier to use, I am using the container. You can paint it back from the pen from the colored part. If you prefer. I don't just adding touches of my color not diluted onto the paper. And you can see there are more darker spaces and more white spaces. Does perfect. Then we're going to move this beautiful watercolor data are away. The lines of the silhouette of the whale stays very clean. And be simple for you to paint later when the program is done. Go around the way we do color and move your watercolor. It doesn't matter what color you choose for the ocean. Makes sure that you have darker and white in lighter spot of colors. Because this helps to create the bulky effect more vividly and more beautiful and more cohesive. Once you have the feeling? Or do you see that the background is covered enough with the color? We are going to start painting the effect. Go with a brush on those darker spots to make it the color and the harsh lines more diffuse. And now we're going to start painting in the book effect, super easy. Just get up and your coin and drop it on the paper and go changing it from place to place. So when the paper gets saturated, it doesn't absorb too much color. And the block effect doesn't apply. Like so. Make as many effects as you like and try to boasting in different places and over one above the other. Because this is like the dreamy ocean with these whales swimming and dreaming. If you want a more in-depth explanation about how to make the bokeh effect. Please check out my other class here on Skillshare about all the effects. And you will have a better idea on how to make them and how to combine different colors if you want. I am done with all the background and I will let this dry. I will see you in the next video. 6. Whale Illustration: The Whale: The background is completely dry. Now it's time to start painting in the way we are going to be starting by applied in the first lecture of color using a brush that is not too, not too big or not too small. And I will be using first the aquamarine with ultramarine blue, diluted with water. And for that I am using my container. I can apply the color and water to dilute my pigment on the leverage at the desired shape. And I will start by adding a very dark shade first. And then I will go through with my garage and water. So the watercolor has started to move, but in a more lighter shade, following the silhouette of my way. So I don't lose it when I applied the water color. And then it's easier for me to keep the whale silhouette. If you prefer to outline whale is perfectly fine. You can do it first and then start plugging the watercolor. I then not outlined in this particular illustration. So you can see that it works very well. Also, when you don't use a fine line to outline your paintings, it is completely up to you. How would you want to proceed in this matter? Now I am just adding water and moving the color around my silhouette of the way. And as you can see, it is taking a little bit of shape. And I went to go through all the silhouette of the welfare state with this diluted with ultramarine blue. And then add some contrast color using the pines gray. When I am finished with it with her money. Take your time. Don't rush this process and allow the paper to observe the watercolor that you are using already. Then you can start adding the next one. When you are done with this part of the process, I will go through all the shape of the silhouette of my wet living in white, the idea of my way. I will come back later to paint the eye. Remember that you can always correct if you make a mistake or a happy mistake. Because the system magic of watercolors, and you can go lighter or darker if you see that your painting is not turning the way you want. Now, I'm adding a very light torches with the Payne's gray on some places. From my silhouette on the front and the back on the tail of the way. The Finns. So it makes a beautiful contrast. In trying to keep the silhouette wet. Because we are going to be adding some salt to create the skin of the whale. If you have seen it and television are, or in real life, I don't know. Maybe you have that black or in a, so you see that the skin is, have some contrasts in itself. Or maybe some waves have also a scars from whatever that animals are. Or they, they fight with each other, or they defend themselves. Trying to keep this a little bit wet so the salt will react. When I add this. In just a moment. I just want to cover all the silhouette with the colors that I choose and see how it is taking shape. Try to maintain the silhouette so you don't damage your painting. I will be finishing this here up. And then I will see you in the next video to add the details. So with assault and anything else? 7. Whale Illustration: The Salt: Okay, Here I have my thoughts and you can use any salt, table salt that you have at home. I then adding a little bit of pigment here and there with a little bit of water. So the salt reacts perfectly when I apply it to my silhouette of the whale. When you have more darker spots with enough water, then the salt, we react more beautifully, creating those interrogate it shades on your painting. So make sure you do your paper or your area of the painting where you want that effect is wet on wet but the Hudson wet and then apply enough salt in all the places. Do want it to react. Done and be mindful here. Just add the more salt you up, the beautiful the effect will be. And then let it dry completely. Like this. It is completely dry. And then now I will remove the salt using this fun brush. You can use your hand. Perfectly fine. You can start to see how beautiful this effect on the skin of the whale is. As we remove all the salt, it will shine a little bit more beautiful. And you can also see the bokeh effect behind making so beautiful ending, the dreamy ocean where this whale is swimming. So beautiful. I am loving in this process. And I hope you are loving it as well. And I can't wait to see your beautiful creation on the class project section for this class, make sure you upload your pieces or materials or whatever you want to share with us. And I will love to comment on them. So now we have our space ready to continue. I will see you in the next video. 8. Whale Illustration: The Details: Now we can add the final details and paint the eye and the lines that the silhouette has. For the, for the, I will be using my black paint marker. For the lines of the whale. I will be using the gray, Payne's gray. And I will also use the wet for some highlights on the body of the way. For the eye, we are just painting a oval shape and then filling it with color. You can use watercolor here as well or wash them halfway. Paint marker. But I want to make this easier for us. So I'm using a marker. And then I can add in some wrinkles around the eye of the way. If you look at pictures of waves, they have like these wrinkles around the eyes and thus is part of the beauty, Nature Beauty. I think this is okay. You can continue with the market and adding the lines to remark the silhouette of the way. But I will be using my fine brush here in using the Payne's gray watercolor. Going from the front to the FIM, making the mouth of the wave. And try to keep your template and see how the lines go. So don't confuse yourself how the shape of your wealth is. So then we are going to be adding these characteristics lines around the body of the whale to make him or her look beautiful. It's just fascinating how little details to give so much life to a painting. So go through the hard body of the whale. At those beautiful. Let's take a closer look. What I'm doing here. I think this line with my fine brush. So you can have a more clear vision of how it works. Remember if you use the mercury would be easy for you if you, if you don't have a brush control yet, go through the whole line and then continue adding some lines at the front of your way to make it look more realistic. But we're not looking here for really smooth. And that will be another topic and we need to acquire another set of skills for that to happen. Enjoy the beautiful easiness of our painting here. Just playing with the colors and making beautiful whale feel fantastic in her own body. I didn't just making the silhouette murkier. Going through the lines, adding some dots. If you look at the template, you will see that it has some dots on the inside of the fin. And continue working on details. Is looking so beautiful. I was really just to remember what the next line are going to be. Defining here, the shape of the tail of the way. And then adding some dots here in this small lumps that they will have. And dying to see where it needs some more detail. I think for now it is. Okay. The amount of detail that we have here. And take, let's take an overview of what we have been doing. Look at these beautiful I, so cute. And they contrast with the water in the block effect that are like bubble, oxygen bubbles. And beautiful way Swimming in this bus. I will be adding some splashes with my flat brush and the bamboo stick using the aquamarine. And the turquoise. That will dramatically in the turquoise color. Just little touches, not too much. Make sure the paint is not too wet. And add some little splashes here and then to add some contrast and texture to the painting. And then we will do the same with the ultramarine blue. It doesn't matter if your brush is not clean because we want this to color to pop up on the paper here and there. Not too much. Don't overdo this because then the bouquet effect will be diluted. Okay, Now I will add some little white highlight my way. But I don't think it needs to match. Just in the eye and some on the front and hidden inside the lines and the dots, just to make them pop a little bit. And I can wait to see what you create. Truly joyful experience when I see your class projects and I love to comment on them. So please make that gift to me to upload some of the projects or whatever you want to share with me in the class project section for this class. Peeling off the tape to see how my beautiful painting is. Turning out. By then, I am very happy with the results. And of course, we can add more details to this painting, but I want to let this as simple, as basic as possible. So do I have room for improvement and to use your creativity here? And now I will add my signature. Don't forget to sign your paintings always. And let's take a look at this beautiful, beautiful painting. Really beautiful painting. And I can't wait to see your creations. So I will see you in the next video where I have more ideas for you to paint this type of illustration. I will see you in the next video. 9. Whale Illustration: More Ideas : Here are some ideas that you can apply to your own illustration. You can add other details to make your illustration look more beautiful. Like this as I am adding here some shapes like the wireless breathing hurts. And in these other illustration, I added some elements from the ocean. And I painted the background in different shades. In. This looks more whimsical, like the head shape is a moon, full moon. And the plantains and the sea plants underneath make the illustration more beautiful and dreamy. You can add any, any type of elements. You can combine this with other type of fishes or a moon or flowers or people. Up to you, how you would create your own unique illustration, letting your creativity flows. I don't give into the basic and a very simple silhouette that you can download in the resources for this class. Please do that. And I can't wait to see what you create.
