1. Course Introduction: Hey there, Welcome to this Notion for beginners course. I'm Fasl. I am an online instructor and an entrepreneur and I'm here to share everything I know about notion. In today's fast paced environment, it is very crucial that you organize your projects daily task and every information that you have with you in a very effective way. Notion, with its powerful and versatile features, stands out as an all in one tool that can transform the way you work and organize things. This is a very comprehensive course where we will talk about different aspects of notion. Begin this course by understanding what is notion? How can you set up your notion account? What are blocks? How can you create pages? We will talk about different kinds of blocks that notion has to offer to its users. And we will see which block you should use in which scenarios. We will also talk about some of the powerful features like databases, notion tables, and how can you embed external content like external PDF, Youtube videos, Google Maps, and so on into a Notion page. This course is a comprehensive course that gives you a lot of insight as to how you can use different features of notion and this can help you integrate notion into your daily work and personal life. Now the question is, who is this course for? This course is designed for students of all levels, whether you are a student at university or if you are a working professional. Or if you are an entrepreneur. Or if you are just someone who is just curious about notion as a tool. Then you can happily enroll into this course and learn and explore different aspects of how you can integrate and use this particular software. This is a very hands on course where I make minimal use of slides and I spend most of the time teaching you about Notion. In the Notion workspace or the Notion page, Slides usage is very minimal. Are you ready to take control of your productivity and organizational skills with Notion? If yes, then enroll into this course. I'm waiting on the other side. Thank you. 2. Understanding Notion and Exploring the Interface: Hello everyone, Welcome to this lecture and it's time that we begin setting up our Notion account. Here I am on Google. And on Google Search, I'll search for Notion. You're going to see a lot of results. And you need to head over to this first result called Notion Eso. I'll click this first link, and this is the website for Notion Software. Now keep in mind that this particular landing page keeps on changing every now and then, Okay. So if you scroll through, you will have an idea of the different kinds of feature that this particular tool has to offer you, okay. You can see there are powerful building blocks. You can see customizing your info. It allows you to customizing your info that you are tracking. You can build any page, communicate any idea, and you can even see different kinds of use cases that different teams can have with this particular tool. For example, engineering can organize their work this way, product team can organize their work this way, and so on. Okay, you can do some reading on this and learn more about this particular tool. And you can start by clicking on Try Notion Free. Alternatively, you can scrawl up over here and you can say Get notion free. Now the moment you click on this, you will be taken to the sign up page. Now on the sign up page, you'll see an option to enter your work e mail. You will also have a couple of patterns which will allow you to create an account using Google and Apple. Okay? So depending on your preference, you can choose to create an account if you already have an account. What I would request is you should come to your home page and click on login. All right. Now once you create your account, you're going to see a dashboard that looks something like this. Here on the left hand side, you're going to see the side Wi, okay, And you can see different options about different actions that you can do with notion. Here you are seeing this is your account, your name here. You'll have option to search, update, access settings, and even create a new page. You have few options over here and some options down here. You have options to view, plan as well. If you plan to upgrade, you can absolutely click over here and do so. But for this course, you don't need a premium version. You can do really well with the free version as well. On the right hand side, you have some tips regarding notion. Okay, so this is about the notion interface and setting up your account. Do take a look at these settings also over here. Okay, Which allow you to customize your page. So this is a default page that is created in Notion and it has some information about how I can get started with Notion and these are the settings regarding the same. That's about Notion and getting started. 3. Creating Pages And Workspaces in Notion: Hey, they're welcome to this class. And let us begin talking about pages and also discuss what are workspaces in Notion. Workspace in Notion is a very high level organization structure that can contain everything that you're working around with. Let me explain this to you. Here you see my name. If you click on this, you'll see that I'm on free plan over here. Now if you click on these three dots over here, you'll see you have an option to join or create a workspace. So I can click on Join or create a new workspace. I can select the use I have over here for personal use. I can say, and it'll say that it's getting ready. What we are doing now over here is we are creating a new workspace. And I can say skip to this particular pop up, it'll show me some like walk through. So I can say okay, and here. Now if you go, you'll see you have to work spaces here, okay. So workspace is nothing but a higher level organizational structure. This particular organizational structure contains everything that you do in notion. Now I have an option to switch the workspace depending on the kind of work that I'm doing. But hey, both the workspaces have the same name. Yes, I can even customize the name by going to a workspace. Clicking on Settings, Over here, Settings and Members. And here you will see Workspace. And under Workspace you have an option to select Settings. Under Settings, you can add your workspace name. I can call this workspace as work. And of course, you can have a domain as well. You have an option to delete the workspace as well In future, if you decide to delete or get rid of this workspace, you can absolutely do this. You can add more people to your workspace. Let me save the changes, let me say yes. Now if you click on People, you have an option to add more people to this workspace, Okay? If you have a team that you want to add and work together with, of course if you're managing your company and if you want to add your teammates, then you can absolutely make use of this feature and get more people added to this workspace. Okay, but now you can see over here that the name change is reflecting here, and I can switch over to the default workspace that I had earlier. We are now in the default workspace, and I hope you have a clarity as to what workspaces are and how you can create and delete multiple workspaces. Now, let us talk about something called a pages. Now, what is a page? A page is a basic unit in notion. Here you can see there are several pages that have being created, pi default. So these are the pages that I have not created. You can see like getting started, quick note, personal use, task list. These are all the pages that have been created by default. Now you can see I have an option to create a new page here. Here as well. Okay, So what I'll do is I'll say create a new page. And I'm being asked for a title for this page. So I can say my first page, my first page over here. And I can just print Enter. Okay, Before printing Enter, you could see like you had options like importing. You have option for templates tables. So you can select templates from here and it will open up a pop up. And you can choose like any sort of template that you wish to select. Now, depending on the use case, there are different templates available, like the product template, if you're creating a product spec, and if you're creating a page for that, you can make use of this template product, Wiki, vision, strategy meetings, and so on. Depending on your use case, you can even search for this and you have different categories over here for school, like for personal, like for projects, and so on. Okay, I won't make use of the template, but this is our first page and you have option more over here you can explore. You can add a page with a timeline, a list, a calendar and so on. But I'll just press Enter and it'll create this empty page for me. Also, there is this new option of write my first page. With AI, there is an EI integration into notion that you can leverage. I'll just say empty page. I'll select enter. Here I have my first page created. Now Notion also has this concept of nested or sub pages, which means that you can create a page within a page. For example, here you can see this arrow. If you click on this, it says no pages inside. What I can do is I can click on this pattern here, quickly add a page inside, I can say my nested page. And I can press Enter, and I can click anywhere else. And you'll see under my first page there is this page that has been linked to called My Nested Page. If you click on this, you'll be taken to this, my Nested page here. All right. This is a concept of nested pages wherein a page can exist within a particular page. I hope this gives you some clarity into the basic concepts of notion like workspaces and pages. 4. Understanding And Using Notion Blocks: Hey, they're welcome to this class and let us begin talking about blocks in notion. So what are notion blocks? A notion block is the basic unit of content in notion. So think of it like a Lego piece in the world of content creation or organizing your things, right? So each block can contain different types of content and they all can be put together in a notion page. Now whenever you're creating a notion page, you're essentially creating a blank canvas where you're putting in all these blocks to bring everything together. Now if you're not clear on this, don't worry, we'll head over to notion and check this out. But for now just remember that these are the types of blocks that you can create in notion. You can create a text block, media block, you can embed something that is external. You can have a database, blocks. Database block is one of the powerful features in Notion, which gives you the ability to add some data into your Notion page. You also have to list bullet points, headers, and dividers. Let us head over to notion and let us see how you can make use of blocks here. In notion, I have my first page open and here you can see this page over here. Okay, so this is a nested page that I have created under this first page. Now this page itself is a block in this page right here. If I add any content, so I can say work space here. Okay, this itself is a block. Now you can see here when I hover on the left hand side of this text, you can see the two icons. I have the ability to move this particular thing up and down. Okay, so I can move it up, I can move it down, I can also move it to the right here, like okay, this is nothing but a block. And this is the ability that notion gives you to arrange your content. Whatever you are creating in your notion page, everything that you create is treated as a block. Okay, Now there is one more option over here, which is the plus option. If you click on plus over here, it will create a new block just below this one. And it'll ask you what kind of block you wish to have. You can have a text block, you can have a page block, you can have a Tu list block. And if you hover on this, you can see like a page block to list block, heading block, a heading two block, and so on. So you can scroll and you can take a look at the number of blocks that are available over here. In the end, you have some options as to, as to AI, continue writing, summarize, and so on. Okay? You can choose any kind of block you wish. You can even create a page over here. This will create a sub page or a nested page. Under this page, we already have one nested page, which we created. You can add more over here. If you click on this, you can say Nested two. This will create a nested page two. If you go to my first page, you'll see nested two created over here. These are the two buttons that you see on the left hand side of every block. Now if you come over to a new line and if you press a forward slash, you'll see those same options come up that were coming up when you selected the plus icon from here. If you select the plus icon, you'll see the kinds of blocks come up over here. And you can even add a forward slash and see the list of like types of blocks come up. Okay? This way you can add blocks to your pages over here. So whenever you're creating blocks, just remember that blocks can be transformed really easily. So if you have a block over here, you can select this block and you will see a lot of options here. Okay? You can see like turn into Option over here, turn into aud list page heading heading one, heading two. I can transform this block to anything I want. Whenever you're creating a block, it can be transformed from one form to another. The transformation is really easy. You can even convert this particular thing that I selected into a page over here, Okay? So if you've written something long and then later on you realize that hey, there should be a page, you can just convert that into a single page depending on your choice. It can be transformed easily. Of course, like we saw, it also can be rearranged easily. Notion gives us that ability to rearrange and have better control over things. Also blocks have nested structure like you can see here I am on this page, Under the page I have a page called my nested page, right? I also have one more page under the main page, which is nested two, you can have sub pages or nested pages also created. This is true for other blocks also, okay, not just page. To summarize, blocks are easy to transform. They can be rearranged really easily using this drag drop interface, which is very intuitive in notion. Also, blocks have nested structure. This is what notion blocks are. They are nothing but the building blocks for your digital workspace in notion. 5. Using Text Blocks: Let us begin talking about the text blocks. In notion, what I've done is I've created a new notion page. And I'll just collapse the sidebar by clicking on this. Okay, now what are text blocks? As the name suggests, the text blocks are the blocks with some text in it. The moment I start typing something over here like this, my text block, what notion is doing is it is creating a new text block. Now if I press Enter, and if I say my text block to, it has created a new text block over here. These two are separate text block and you can verify that by hovering on this. Here you can see separate icons for both these lines which indicates that these two are independent of each other. And you can change the order and play around with it. Right? This is about text blocks, like the simple form of text block. Now the thing is there will be scenarios wherein I would have a block of text. I might want to add new lines to that text, but I don't want to create separate blocks for each. How would I do that the moment you press Enter here a notion? What notion does it? It creates a new block. And you can see over here, it created a new block for this letter to now. If I don't want to create a new block, but I still want to add a text on the new line, what I can do is I can say Shift Enter. I can add my new line. I can say my new line like this will now create a new line, but it won't add a new block. If you hover beside this, you can see that there is one control only that you can see over here. Okay? If you move them, it will move together, which means that this is a same block and not a new block. If I press Shift Enter again, I can add some more text over here. How are you? Right, so this is all the same block and this is not a new block that I have added. Okay. So I hope you have some clarity as to how you can add some text on a new line without adding a new block. Now on Windows, I made use of Shift Enter to enter a new line without creating a new block. On Mac also, this is going to be the same. Okay, Now this is about a text block. Now you can add different kinds of text blocks. Like you can say forward slash, and you can see there is a text block which we just created wherein we just start writing the plain text. You can add heading one, you can add heading two, heading three, and so on. You can even add a two do list over here. So these are the different options that you can create. You can create a bullet list so I can say 1234 and so on. Okay, so these are all new blocks as you can see. And if you press Shift Enter, this will give me a new line, but without creating a new block. Okay, so this is about text blocks. You can add some formatting over here into the text blocks. So if I want to highlight R over here, so I can just double click, select it. And I can either make use of keyboard shortcuts like control B on Windows and command on Mac, or I can make use of this buttons over here. Okay? You can even do different formatting like italics underline and so on. Strike through. You have option to select different, like you can turn this into like heading one, heading two, heading three, and so on. And you can even go over here and choose the color. I can select a background color like yellow over here, okay? And this is going to turn this entire block into yellow, okay? But if I select this entire piece, if I go to color, and if I say default background, and if I just select R over here, okay? And then if I try to go over here, this is applicable to the entire block. As you can see the moment I enter this option, if I select this, if I click on this three icons, this is applicable to entire block because the entire block is selected. And if you select anything from here, it will be applicable to entire block. Okay, whatever you're selecting, you can choose from here itself. I can choose the formatting from here, like bold, italic, and so on, like you saw. I can even choose to link it if I want to hyper link it to like an internal page. So you can see the internal page over here. Or I can even write over here like Google.com It will just link to Google.com If you hover on this, you'll see it's being linked to Google.com right? You can even link it to the internal page. So I can say edit, and I can say Remove Link. And I can say Link again, and I can say my first speech. And if you hover on this, it'll take you to my first speech. This way you can create links. You can even add comments over here, so you have an option to add comment. Okay, You can say my first comment like, so whoever hovers on this will see this particular comment here. Okay? So these are text blocks. And text blocks are fundamental when it comes to working with notion. Okay, So they're very simple and they are the basic building blocks. So if you're creating a notion document or a notion dashboard, text blocks is something that you'll be frequently working with. So these are text blocks for you. 6. Lists And Toggles: Hey there. Welcome to this class and let us begin talking about list and toggles what is a list? A list is nothing but a list of things, right? In notion you can represent a list of things in different ways. There is something called as bullet list, there is something called as numbered list and even checklist. Let us talk about each one of them. If you say forward slash, you're going to have something called as bullet list. Now bullet list is a simple bullet list like I can just add a list of things over here. Okay? So what is a checklist? You can say forward slash and I can select to list over here. To do list is nothing but a checklist of a task. I can say 1234. I can add any task. I can even add text over here. Okay. I can even tick on it like this. Okay. It's very interactive. I can even reorder this. Each of this item is independent block. You can see over here how I'm able to rearrange them. Okay, this is about the checklist over here. If you uncheck it is going to remove this blue design and it is going to remove this strike through over here. Okay? So this is bullet list, this is checklist. You have numbered list as well. You can say forward, and if you scroll down over here, you have numbered list, you can say one, over here, you can say two, you can say three, and so on. Okay? So these are nothing but numbered lists and you can even reorder them if you wish to. Okay, This is about list and how you can represent a list in notion you have bullets. You have checklist and a numbered list. Now one more thing I want to talk about is checklist without adding a forward slash, you can create a checklist. You can simply add open square bracket and close square bracket. And if you add a space, it'll simply create a checklist for you. Okay? You can create a checklist like this also, okay? Or alternatively, you can add a forward slash and you can even create a total list from here, total list is nothing but a checklist. Okay, so this is about the list of items. Now there will be scenarios wherein you want to add a sub item within this list. You can go to any list item under which you want to add a sub item. You can press Center, it'll create a new item. And then you can press Tab from your keyboard. The moment you press Tab, you can see like the indentation is added. And you can now add a sub item. So I can say sub one. Okay? This is same, four checklist as well. You can press Enter and press a tap. And same for the bullets as well. Okay. Now let us talk about toggles. This is about list. Now what are toggles? If I press Enter a few times, if I say forward and I can say toggle over here. So you can see this toggle list over here, and I can select this toggle list. Now toggles are nothing but collapsible headers that you can click to reveal or hide the content under it. Okay? And they are excellent choice for reducing the clutter and organizing the related information in a hierarchical way. So I can say first toggle here, okay? And I can expand this toggle. So you can see over here, it's an empty toggle. And you can expand and collapse toggle like this. And here you can specify the name of the toggle. Okay, I can expand a toggle. I can click on this empty toggle. If you read the message, it let me remove this block. It said empty toggle. Click or drop blocks inside. You can even drop blocks. For example, I have this total list over here, checklist. I can just drag this and I can add it over here within this toggle. And I can toggle it right. You can see how powerful this is. You simply drag and dropped something over here. Or you can add your own stuff. Instead of a checklist. I can add my own text over here. I can say my own text, something like this. This will be collapsible. This is really helpful if you have a lot of content on a page. If you want to add toggles to organize everything okay. The advantages that toggles gives you is like space efficiency. So it can condense large amount of content into sections that you can manage really easily. It also helps you focus and gives you some clarity by organizing the content. It also helps you in organizing things. For example, if you have epics created on this particular document, you can have question like this. And under this toggle, you can have the answer, questions will be a toggle and answer will be hidden under the toggle. Okay? Imagine like if you have hundreds of ficus, like how organized it would look with the help of toggle. That's the benefit of using toggle in your notion pages, okay? Yeah, this is about list and toggles that you can work with. 7. Simple Notion Tables: Hey there, Welcome to this class and let us begin talking about simple tables in Notion. Now what are simple tables? Simple tables, like the names suggest, is a way to represent tables in its very simple form. Now there will be scenarios wherein you want to represent information in a tabular format. This is where simple tables come into picture. Simple tables come with very limited functionality. Now let me give you a demonstration for the same. To add a simple table, you can simply head over to your page and you can say forward slash and you can start typing in Table over here. So you can see add simple tabular content to your page. If I select this, you'll see this grid being created. Now I can add any data that I wish to add. Okay, I can add 45.6 Okay, This is table in a very simple form. You can see it has very limited functionality and there are very limited things that you can do with simple tables in notion. Now there are a few options that you should be aware of. If you want to add a new row, you can click on this plus icon over here. This plus icon will add a new row. This plus icon to the right hand side will add a new column. Okay, if you hover on this table, if you select anything, you will see this option appear over here. Here you will see this option like this, two arrows which will fit the table to the page width. Okay, if you select this, you'll see the table has become broad. You have some options to mark the header row and header column. Okay? This will be the header row and this will become the header column. Okay? You can also click on these three dots and you can get the link to this block. Turn this into the database as well. Now, database is an advanced form of simple tables, okay? If you want to just represent the data in Tableau format, you can do so with the help of simple tables, but if you want some additional database like functionality, you can make use of Notion databases, okay? This is about simple tables in notion. 8. Embedding in Notion: Hey, they're welcome to this class. And let us begin talking about embedding in notion. What is embedding? Now embedding in notion refers to the inclusion of any external content like videos, maps, PDF or even web pages and more. Now Notion allows you to embed all of this into your notion page. What I've done is I've created a new notion page called embedding in notion. To embed any content, you can say forward slash, I can say embed over here. If I say embed, I'll see this option to embed. Now you can see different options like Google Drive, embed a Tweet, Github, cast, Google Maps and so on. Okay, but I'll just choose the first option over here. Here you can see it opens up the link. I can add the link to any content. And you can see over here it works with PDF, Google Drive, Google Maps, code Pen, and so on. You can even upload your own content over here and maximum file size is Fi MB. You can upgrade to use this feature, but we'll check this embedded link feature. I'll head over to Google Maps. And what I've done is I've searched for Eiffel Tower. I can copy this URL here, Field Tower. I can come over here and I can paste it. And I can say embedded link. Now the moment I say so, you'll see that the map is now embedded into my page. Now I have an option to resize this. It's totally up to me. I can change the size, I can reduce the height like this using these controls, okay? I can even move the map something like this. Okay? I can even out if I wish to. I have some small buttons over here like comment alignment. I can align this, the left, right, or to the center. I also have an option to open this in the external file over here. Okay. And you can additionally click on this and add a caption. So you can say, Phil A. Okay. Something like this. This is a caption here, you have more options. You can make it full screen, delete, duplicate, copy, link to original, and so on. Okay, so this is how you can embed a map. You can even embed a PDF. I'll click Enter a couple of times here. I'll say Embed. Now I need a link to the PDF. I can head over to Google over here and I can search for sample PDF over here. Now the moment you search for sample PDF, you'll see a lot of sample PDFs come up. Like this one from Adobe. Okay, It's a sample PDF. This is also from an Africa University. It's a simple PDF. I can copy this or any one PDF for which you have a URL. You can come to the notion and you can paste it. You can see Embed over here. Now the moment you do so, you'll see that the PDF will be embedded into your notion page and you can interact with it. Like I can scroll into it, okay? I can even resize like we did for maps, something like this. Okay? I can add captions, Align Comment, I can even download the PDF from here. Okay? And I have other options too, Okay? So this is a very powerful feature, like if you want to embed something like a social media post, for example. You could see like an option to embed a tweet. I can say embed and you have an option to embed a tweet. You can add a link to the tweet over here and you'll see the preview of that tweet over here. Okay, so things like social media post D and even images, music files, podcast. Like any designs you have created. For example, if you're a designer and if you're making use of Figma, and if you have a link to the graphic set you have created, you can integrate that. If you are a developer and if you have written some code like for example the code is hosted on Github cast or Code Pen, you can embed that as well. Okay, You can embed Google Docs, Google Sheets, Google Slides, and even videos from Youtube. So embedding content in notion is a really powerful feature. And you can see how this particular feature takes notion one level above Google Talks, okay? And this also allows you to add a lot of dynamic elements into your notion. Pages like other notion blocks, you can even like order it. So I can change the order if I wish to. Like maps is now gone below PDF. And PDF is above the maps, okay? So it gives you total control and this makes notion really powerful. 9. Synched Blocks in Notion: Hey there. Welcome to this class and let us begin talking about synced blocks and Notion. So what is a synced block? Synced block allow you to replicate the same block of content at multiple places across your workspace. Now what this means is whenever you update any content in one of your sync block, all the other instances of that block will automatically update its content. This ensures consistency. Okay. So to explain this better, let me demonstrate, and this will help you understand what synced blocks are. So what I will do is I'll create a new block. So I'll say contact, okay, Let's say I'm storing a contact information, and I'll just add contact information like this. Okay? This is some dummy contact information that I have. Now let's say I want to convert this into a sync to block. I'll select this block and I'll go to this three dot over here. And I'll say turn into sync to block over here. You can see this option. You can see this help text that appeared. It says sync content across pages. I'll say Syn block and you'll see if you hover on this, red border will appear indicating that it's a sync block. Now if I add anything under it, it will be added to that particular block. I can say address over here, and I can say address one. Okay? Now, let me duplicate this block. So I can duplicate this block. Let me move this block to the bottom here. Let me add a couple of block between them. Okay, I've added some separation between these two blocks. Now these are two distinct blocks, but they both are sync. Now, if I edit one, if I change this address one to address two, you will see both the blocks are being updated at one time. If I change the contact number so I can change the contact number by pressing zero, you'll see it's being reflected across the blocks. Okay, so this is sync blocks and you can edit any of the sync blocks and all the changes that you are doing in one sync block will appear across all the sync blocks. This is a powerful thing in notion right now. What we have done is we have added a sync block, like two sync blocks in a single page. But sync blocks can also exist across multiple pages. For example, I can see a new page over here, okay? And I can see a sub page. I can add that same sync block over here. Okay? Let me go to the parent page, and let me copy this sync block. Now in order to copy this sync block, I'm going to say copy and sync. You'll see this message copied and now piece in any page I can go to subpage, I'll paste it over here, okay? Now if I edit over here, so if I say address to 112, and if I come back to the parent page, you'll see it's been updated at all the places, okay? Now, in order to see where all you're making use of this sync block or where all this block is being synced, you can click on this and you can see over here editing in two other pages. You'll see this is the same page. This is also the same page like you're saying, this page, this page. And there is one more in sub page and you can go to this particular page over here. Okay? So this way you have a track of where all you're making use of this sync blocks. Now in blocks are really powerful and there are various use cases in which you can use them. A few of the use cases that I can highlight is if you are creating a like multiple notion pages where you need headers and footers. Now, headers and photos are generally consistent. If you're making change at one place, you don't want to go and make changes at all the pages. In that case, you can create a S block, and if you edit one header or footer, it gets synchronized across all the pages. Blocks are also helpful if you're creating shade resources or any sort of references. If you're creating any sorts of instructions or guidelines, like for example, if you are having a project where you want a set of instructions to be repeated at multiple places, then in that case you can make use of these synced blocks. You can even have universal announcements or updates or even contact information which does not change across multiple pages, synced from one place. Okay, so these are synced blocks and as you can imagine, sync blocks in notion are game changer for maintaining a cohesive and up to date workspace. 10. Organizing Content With Notion Databases: Hey there. Welcome to this class and let us begin talking about notion databases. What are notion databases? Notion database is a powerful feature that allow you to organize, categorize, and visualize the data in various ways. So let me give you an example. Here I have created a new page and I have pasted a table or some data in a simple table format. Now this is a simple notion table and you can see it has some headers like item name, category, quantity, and price, okay? Now you can create a new database by saying like forward slash and you can say database. Now there are two options, like database in line and a database full page. If you say in line, it will create a database of this sort. Now you can take a look at both of them. This is a simple table, and this is a database. You can see like this has a different view as compared to the database or the table over here at the top. Now, you can even convert this particular table into a database. Let me duplicate this table so that I preserve the data in the original form. What I'm going to do is I'm going to convert this particular table into a database. I'm going to click on this three dots and I'm going to say turn into a database. Now you'll see the moment I turned this into a database, the headers that I have for this database, or the columns over here, are not the one that I wanted to have. You can see over here, the header is Category, quantity, and price. But this is the first true of information like item name, category, and quantity. But I would want to have this label at the top in the place of headers. How do I do that? I'll just press control set and I'll go back to its original form. And I'll make sure over here by clicking on this options that I have marked a header row. Okay, Now the moment I marked this as header row, and if I turn this into a database, you'll see now you have the column names appear correctly instead of column one, column two, and column three. Okay, notion now knows that that particular table had a header and when converting it into a database, it made sure that the headers being converted into database header. And you can see over here, this is a different view as compared to a simple table. Okay? Now one thing to observe over here is that every row is a separate page in in Notion database. If you click on this or if you hover on this, you'll see open option. If you click it'll open this inside Peak. And you can see all the properties over here, okay? You can see category, price and Quantity. Now database has this concept of property. Property is nothing but columns. You can add new property. I can say like new demo, something like this. And you can select the type over here. Every property has a type. And this is very different from that of tables where we did not have type for the data. Now giving type and specifying type allows you to have more control over the data that you're storing. And you can see different kinds of type that are available. Like for example, number. You can have multiple select, you can select drop down or multi select. You can have data as well. You can even have person as data. You can have a URL, e mail phone number, and so on. Okay. I'll just stick to text for now. Okay. We'll keep things simple. And you can see this particular property has been added in the form of column. Now if you go to any row, you'll see new demo as the property. Whatever you add over here, I can say data over here, you will see the data appear over here as well. Okay? Within the page, you can add any sort of information. Okay? You can add a lot of information here if you wish to at this space. This is just to keep track of this row, okay? You can add a new property from here as well. You can create a new property. I can say demo two, right? And this will add a new property, something like this, okay? You can see demo. You can add the data data to, if you collapses, you'll see that information appear here as well. Okay? This is databases here. At the top, you have a database title. You can say like electronics. You can specify the name of the database over here, you have an option to calculate. If you are having numbers in a column, you have an option to calculate count, count, unique percentage and so on. I can say count values, it will give you the count of values. Over here, you can see It also allows you to count unique values, okay? So there are different calculations that you can do over here. Now you can take a look at more features like Filter. This is not available in Simple Table. As you can see, Filter Simple Table is just used to display the information in Tableau format. But if you want to work more, you can select Filter. You can say item name and you can say Notebook, okay? It's going to filter the entire database by this filter that you have specified. And you can choose to remove the filter, something like this, okay? You can even sort the data by any value you want, okay? Now, one of the powerful features of databases is database views. Now, what are database views? Now, database views allow you to view your data in different format. Here you have this plus icon. You can click on this plus icon and it'll add a new view to your database. It'll ask you to choose the view by default, table is selected, but you can choose list. If I choose List over here, you can see it is being shown to me as the list of information and also list. You can modify the view over here, okay, by clicking on this name, right clicking on the name, you can say Edit View, and you can say like the layout. You can say Calendar. You can see the data is now being represented in the calendar format. Now, we don't have a date field in the table, but you can choose or mark which field you want to be shown in this particular calendar over here, okay? Or how you want calendar to be represented. Because in order to represent data on a calendar, you need to have a date field in your data and you can tell notion database that hey, I want this data to be represented on the calendar with the help of this date column. Okay, But we don't have date over here. If you see we don't have any date or I can add date over here. So let's say I add today state, okay, five. And if I go to calendar, you can see this particular field or this particular data is being shown for like chan five. Right now I can write click again, I can say Edit View and I can change the view to something like board or gallery. And I can even add more views if I want to. I can add a board view. You can see this is a board view, so if you are working as a project manager, this is like one status. You can add more status like a new group. You can say, okay, you can move items from node book. I can move, I can move from No Status to Tn, okay? If you take a look at the data here, it has added a new column called status. However, you are moving the data, it is updating this status column here, okay? You can use your data in the board format, something like this. If you click it'll open the same view over here, okay, Which is a side view. You can add more views. You have list. You can see list as well. So list is a simple list. Okay? You can have gallery. So if you have images, gallery is really helpful. Okay? So these are different views that you can play around with and as you can see how notion can be really powerful. And you can delete a view as well. Okay, So I can delete this view and it's giving me like three views now. Okay. So this is about databases. And I hope you have an idea as to how you can play around with views. And every view has the same functionality. Like you can add new items from everywhere. I can create new items from here. I can create new items in calendar. I can create new items in table view as well. Okay, I can search and you can even play around with these options at the top. You can search for it. You can make this a full page. You can open this as full page as well. Okay? And so on. Okay. Now, let me show you one more option. Over here at the end, what I'll do is I'll say forward slash and I can say database. And you have this option of database, full page, adding a table view, board view. Now these views are the same views that we just saw in the database, okay? So if you go and see this view over here, the one we added like calendar board and so on, those are the views that are being shown to you over here. Okay? So if you're saying database 1 second, so these are all the same views is what I mean to say. If you hover on this, you'll see a preview of how this will appear. Okay? Now there are a couple of options like I had mentioned. One is like to add database in line and one is to add database as full page. You can add a full page database as well, okay? And this is a full page database, I'll say full page database. So you can see this is being added as a subpage over here, okay? Now you can choose whether you want to use a full page database or a database in line. Now in line you'll use if you want to have more elements or more blocks on a single page along with a database. And if you want to just have a full page with just a database, you can make use of a full page database depending on your requirement. You can choose to select the type, right? As you can imagine and as you can see over here that databases, like the concept of databases, is an upgraded or powerful feature when it's compared to simple tables. Like I said, Simple Table is just used to represent any information in the table format with limited functionality. It is just used for representation purpose. But if you want to work with data like if you want to perform some operations like filtering, sorting, adding different views, then databases is the way forward. I hope this was helpful and I hope you have some clarity about Notion databases. 11. Sharing and Customizing Your Notion Page: Hey there. Welcome to this class and let us begin talking about how you can share and customize your notion page. In order to share, you will see this Share button on the top right of your page and you can start adding people to give them access to this particular page. You can enter the person name groups or e mail IDs and hit the invite pattern. You can also change the access levels over here. Okay, you can alternatively copy the link to the Notion page and share it with others. Now when you click on Share, you also have the ability to publish this page to web. What this means is you will get a unique URL you can use and share this particular page as a web page with everyone. That is one unique feature that notion gives you. Now talking about customizations, you have an option to customize and do some minor changes. At the top here, you can see a few options. If you hover, you can see option to add an icon. I can add an icon. Over here, you can see it added a picture of a cricket bat and a cricket ball. By default, I can click on this and I can change it to anything I want. Okay? There are lots of options here. Okay? I can choose any of the images as well. Okay? It's up to you as to how you want to customize it. Okay. Depending on your requirement. Now, I also have an option to add a cover. Optionally. I can say add a cover. It will add a default cover. It will give me an option to reposition this. Okay. I can track it. I can even change the cover. I can either select an gradient or I can select any image. Any archive from Nasa. Here you can see the Nasa archive. You have a lot of images here that have been made available to you by default. You can choose to upload your own image, you can add the link of the image, or you can make use of unsplash. Unsplash is a website where you can get free stock images and notion has a good integration with unsplash. It directly shows you the image and you can even search for the image. If I need to look for telescope, you can see I got the image of telescope. Okay. Now I'll just go to gallery and I'll select any gradient color. Okay. And I have an option to remove this as well. So I can choose to remove the image or the color that I have added here. I have an option. The last option is to add a comment. I can add a comment and I can mention more about the page. This is more like a subtitle. Okay, this is my first notion page. I can say yeah. You can add an attachment. You can tag mention someone, name page, or a date and you can just post it. Okay, so you can add more comments over here and that will show up to whoever views the page. This is about the sharing part and the customization part with notion pages. 12. Version History And Restoring: Hey there, welcome to this class. And I wanted to spend some time talking about devotion history that notion offers with its pages. Here on my notion page, I can see this message at the top right that this page was edited 2 minutes ago by myself. I also have an option, or a button, I should say, of a clock on the right hand side. If you hover on this, it'll say View all updates. And clicking on this, it'll show you all the updates that you have made to this particular page, okay? So you can see when this page was edited and by whom? This is like a version history that you have access to over here. Okay, You can take a look at this and you can even traverse back to that version. If you select this clock icon over here, it'll take you to the page version at that particular or that point in time. And it'll also give you an option to restore that particular version. So this is like a version control that you have built in within your notion pages, okay? And you can decide if you want to switch back to any old version, okay? You can also get access to the analytics over here as to who is viewing this particular page and you can filter this particular section over here and watch the data over here. Okay, so this is about version history and analytics when it comes to notion pages. 13. Conclusion: All right, so we have reached the end of this particular class and throughout this particular course we have learned how notion is a tool that can revolutionize and change the way we manage and organize our personal and professional lives. We began this course by talking about the fundamentals of notion, like what is notion? How can you set up your account? How can you create pages? What are blocks? And how can you make use of blocks? Then dived into the concepts like how can you make use of different kinds of block in a single notion page? How can you make use of a sync blocks and how can you add external content like PDFs, talks, Google Maps and all into a single notion talk. Now remember that this is just a beginning notions. Capabilities are extensive and endless, and they offer endless possibilities for creativity and customizations. I would encourage you to continue experimenting, refine, and keep building your notion skills. Now, whether this is for any professional project or for your personal work, or even for your leisure, the possibilities with notion, like I said, are endless. I'm super excited to see how you will apply notion to your daily life and work. Thank you for participating in this course. It's been pleasure guiding you through the wonders of notion.
