About This Class

I love to make art on my small sketchbook. Creating small art gives me the satisfaction of making something fun and relaxing without any pressure. I don’t need to put a lot of time and energy and I don’t need many art supplies. With just a small sketchbook and a few POSCA markers, I can create an art to satisfy my creative self on a daily basis. I can easily carry my art supplies with me on the go especially while I travel.

In this class, we will create a small art using POSCA markers on our Sketchbook or on a loose paper. We only need a piece of paper and some POSCA markers.

By the end of this class, you have created a small beautiful art that hopefully will inspire you to begin your journey of creating art on a daily basis.

1. Introduction: Hi. I'm Elaine Vitikainen. I'm an illustrator and an entrepreneur from Helsinki. I love to make art on my small sketch book. Creating small art gives me the satisfaction of making something fun and relaxing without any pressure. I don't need to put a lot of time and energy, and I don't need many art supplies. With just a small sketchbook and a few POSCA markers, I can create an art to satisfy my creative self on a daily basis. I can easily carry my art supplies with me on the go, especially while I travel. In this class, we will create a small art using POSCA markers on our sketchbook or on a loose paper. We only need a piece of paper and some POSCA markers. By the end of this class, you have created a small, beautiful art that hopefully will inspire you to begin your journey of creating art on a daily basis. I can't wait to see you in class. 2. Class Project: For the class project, we will be creating a small flower art using POSCA markers on our sketchbook or on a loose paper. Creating a small art allows you to create something fun and relaxing without any pressure. This could also be a start of your journey of creating art on a daily basis. 3. Class Materials: For the materials, we only need a paper to draw on and some POSCA markers. For the paper, it could be your sketchbook that you already have or any paper. The nice thing about POSCA markers is that you can use a thin paper. For example, the paper of this mini sketchbook is only 80 grams. This is actually an old, unused, tiny calendar. As you can see, POSCA markers don't bleed, which is really nice. I would suggest though that you use a paper without any texture to preserve the nibs of your POSCA markers. Although the nibs are replaceable. For the class project, we only need six colors - red, orange, blue, green, yellow, and white. You can also use more or even less colors. 4. What are POSCA Markers?: Before we continue with the class, let's talk about POSCA markers and what I love about them. POSCA markers have been around for 30 years. They contain high quality water based acrylic paint. The paint is highly opaque, quick drying and blendable when wet. What I love about POSCA markers is how easy to use them. They allow me to paint on a small sketchbook for a quick and simple artistic expression. I can use them as they are. I just need a small paper to test them out before using them, and I need to be prepared to do a lot of shaking. So let's start. 5. Drawing the Flowers: For this lesson, we will be creating a flower art. I will be drawing on my tiny sketchbook. You can follow along, but your project doesn't have to look exactly the same. Of course, you can also create your own design. To start, it's good to have a paper to test our POSCA markers before drawing. And I also like to place papers under the pages. I'm thinking of drawing five flowers. Here, here, here, here, and here. Some leaves. And let's see how we can add more to fill the space. We will draw the flower that is farthest from our drawing hand. So if you are right handed, start from the left and vice versa. When you draw, don't think so much about it. Don't take pressure as this activity is meant to be relaxing. I like to start with a large nib and later go over it with a smaller nib if I need to. To draw the flower, it would be good to have the center point and divide it depending on how many petals. I'm just making some big shapes. I like to take some parts out of the paper. I will now go over them using smaller nibs until I'm happy with the shapes. Let it dry before we add some leaves. 6. Drawing the Leaves: Now, let's draw the leaves. I'm just randomly adding them. I'm also putting some green to draw some blue flowers to fill the space. 7. Adding the Background: Now, let's take the yellow to color in the background using a small nib. Let it dry before we add the finishing touches. 8. Finishing Touches: When all is dry, here comes the best part - adding the finishing touches. As you can see, the white lines help your drawing to stand out, and it really makes a lot of difference. 9. Thank You: Thank you for joining me in this class. I hope you enjoyed creating your small art using POSCA Markers. Please don't forget to snap a photo of your art and share it in the project gallery section. I really can't wait to see what you've created. Also, please leave a class review. I would really appreciate it. You can also book me for a one on one session if you have any questions or need help with any of my classes. By for now and see you again soon.
