About This Class

In this class, we are going to draw a Rolled Omelette. A Rolled Omelette is called Tamagoyaki in Japan and Gyeran Mari in Korea. It will be quick and easy.

I will be drawing on an iPad with an Apple pen using the Procreate app. I will be sharing with you two of my stamp brushes to use in your projects if you wish. But you can also follow this class using other drawing tools.

This class is for beginners and for anyone who would like to draw a Rolled Omelette for fun, to share on social media, to print out and even to make into stickers. You can check out my sticker classes if you want to turn your projects into stickers.

Hi! I'm Elaine Vitikainen. I'm an illustrator and an entrepreneur from Helsinki. While others may say that they have been drawing since the first time they held a pen (which I think we all did), I can honestly say I learned to draw later in life. It was in 2019 that I established myself as an entrepreneur and made visualisation and illustrating as my main work. I've conducted creative facilitation that incorporates the practical and effective use of visuals. With my Masters degree in Communication, I've supported organisations' communication processes by placing organisational communication into visual context. I've illustrated for the Non-Profit organisations and for the development filed. I've also conducted Visualisation workshops to those who desire to be more visua... See full profile

1. Introduction: Hi, I'm Elaine Vitikainen. I'm an illustrator and an entrepreneur from Helsinki. In this class, we're going to draw a rolled omelette. A rolled omelette is called Tamagoyaki in Japan and Gyeran Mari in Korea. It will be quick and easy. I will be drawing on an iPad with an Apple pen using the Procreate app. I will be sharing with you two of my stamp brushes to use in your project if you wish. But you can also follow this class using other drawing tools. This class is for beginners and for anyone would like to draw a rolled omelette for fun, to share on social media, to print out, and even to make into stickers. You can check out my sticker classes if you want to turn your projects into stickers. Let's get started. 2. Class Project: For the class project, we will be drawing a rolled omelette in a quick, easy and fun way. First, we will decorate the plate where we will put the rolled omelette. We will draw the rolled omelette and place it on the plate. Then we will add some colours and use the parsley stamp brush to finish up our projects. I'll provide the colour palette that I'll use in this class. But you can use any colours that you like. Also, I'm sharing with you two of my stamp brushes to use in your projects if you wish. You can download these resources from the class resources section. But you can also follow this class using other drawing tools. By the end of this class, you will have an illustrated rolled omelette that you can share on social media, to print out and even to make into stickers. 3. Let's Decorate the Plate: To start a new project, let's open Procreate, Hit the plus sign to open a new canvas. Let's make this a 1,500 pixel by 1,500 pixel at 300 DPI. The square canvas will make it easy to share on social media like Instagram. And with 300 DPI, it will give a good quality when printed. Hit create. I will be using the monoline pen from the calligraphy set in the brush library. My pen size is 10%. To draw the plate, let's start with a rectangle. Hold your pen in place to create a straight line. Then let's use colour drop to add a colour on the outer part of the plate. Be sure that there are no gaps. Otherwise the color will drop on the entire canvas. Let's duplicate this layer and add another color on the center of the plate. But this time it will be a little bit lighter than the colour on the outer part of the plate. Let's add another layer and activate the clipping mask. We will add the stamp brush to decorate the plate. I will use white. We can also lower the opacity of this layer a bit if you want to have it lighter, Let's add another layer and let's line the plate to have the illusion of depth. We can place the opacity to 40%. Now let's place the layer with the outer part of the plate on top. Now our plate is ready for the rolled omelette. 4. Let's Draw the Omelette: Now let's draw the rolled omelette. The way that we will draw the omelette is very much a freestyle. This would make it look more organic. Let's draw it in two ways. Let's draw the first one. I'm back to the monoline pen size 10. I will be using the darker yellow. I will resize, duplicate and arrange. Then I will add lighter yellow on the outer part of the second drawing. I will resize, arrange, duplicate, then arrange again. Once you're happy, let's add another layer, then place it under the omelette. I will use green and orange to add random shapes to look like carrots and scallions. Now I will combine all the layers by pinching them together. I will use a lighter yellow to fill in the rest. Or I can also add another layer, place it under the omelette and start coloring. Then I will change the color to green and use the parsley stamp brush on another layer. I will now combine everything and resize. And there we have a beautiful plate of rolled omelette. 5. Many Thanks: Many, many thanks for joining me in this class. I hope you enjoyed drawing a rolled omelette to share on your social media, to print out, or even to turn into stickers. Please don't forget to post your projects in the project gallery section. And please leave a class review too. And if you're sharing your project on Instagram, please tag me. I'll be very happy to see your project. Bye for now and see you again soon.
