How to Paint Tulips with Acrylic Paint on Canvas - Step by Step Flower Painting for Beginners

1. 1 Intro to Tulips: Hi, everyone. I'm l And today I'm gonna show you how to paint two lips with acrylic paint on canvas. This is a demo piece that I made yesterday, and I'm going to use it as a model for today's class. I have my acrylic paint, some clean water, paintbrushes and a paper towel and a paint palette. Ready? This is the sketch that I made yesterday before I painted this piece. And I'm using it again today, Um, as a reference. So I'm going to move this off to the side. This is my 10 by 10 inch square canvas that I got at my local art storm. You can use any size that is comfortable for you. 2. 2 sketch with pastels: I'm starting off with my pastels and I'm going to just create a simple sketch on my canvas . You could also use a pencil or any other marking material I like to use past owes because they blend in with the paint easier Tham pencils. So I'm going to have a vase with the water line and some stems coming down and for my leaves to lift leaves are kind of pointing at the top, so I'm gonna make sure, but I have a point. They want them at different heights because that will be more interesting on our painting. - And for my two lips, I'm gonna have one here. - It's gonna be a little bit bigger, and we'll have some stems coming down into the Baesa's. Well, okay, next I'm going to start with my green and turquoise and blue colors for my leaves. 3. 3 Blocking in color: I'm going to start with some darker colors today. I have turquoise. I'm also going to use Impression Blue in some hooker's green. All of the paint brands, Andi colors that I used today will be listed below the video. In the about section, I'm also going to use some avocado. And for my first layer, I'm going to put the paint on pretty thin so that it dries quickly. And I'm not going to be too concerned about staying within the lines as long as we come close. That's okay. - I'm also going to use these colors in my vase. I'm gonna have a lot of dark in the upper part of the base and on some of the leaves to create some shadows and depth. I'm really just trying to fill everything in with different colors. Um, in maybe some brush strokes, going in some different directions. We're going to layer over a lot of this. So your first coat? I don't want to say it doesn't matter, but there is a lot of leeway here with this. Okay, Next, I'm gonna fill in my negative space with a blue gray color. When uses color called morning mist and I'm gonna outline my leaves and flowers with this color, I'm gonna mix a little bit of blue into this and add some to my vase. - You can add some to your leads as well, if you want. Okay. Now I'm gonna move on to my first layer of flowers for my flowers. I'm going to go with some shades of red, magenta, pink and yellow spin. Probably some pops of blue. Yes, I like the way that looks against the magenta and red. A couple of different reds on Michael with a little orange to mix in with some of my red and a little yellow. Course white, always white. - Get some green on there. That's not good. Really. Just trying to fill it in. I'm gonna go over these again. When I start to add my details, - you're gonna add some magenta. I'm just trying to cover up that green spot with some white. Now, let that dry a bit and then go over it again with magenta. - I'm going to make these tulips more colorful than the demo painting that I showed you earlier. Again. I'm gonna put some white on there to cover up that green, and then I'll go over it later. Okay? I'm gonna let this dry for about five or 10 minutes so I can layer more paint on top. 4. 4 Layering and details: Okay, This is mostly dry now, and I cleaned off my brushes. Now I'm going to start to add details and build up my layers. I I think I'm going to start with my vase. Um, I want this to look a little bit more like glass, and I want some sort of abstract looking stems, so I'm gonna have some stripes that come down for stems, but maybe they turn a little bit and I'm going Teoh, add some white and light grade details to hopefully mimic some water and glass from taking a pretty small brush. And I'm going to start Teoh outlying my face. Well, I've got a very faint water line. I'm gonna go over this with some darker blue and maybe some green to try to blend it a little better to make it poof. Little, little, slightly more realistic up. I do want an overall, you know, abstract feel, - adding a little yellow for some color right on top of that avocado, and you can see just by adding a little bit more layers on top. It's already starting to build the vase up. - And if you do something you don't like, that's okay. just go over it with another color that's toning the white down a little. Gonna do the same on my water line. I've got some of this pistachio color that I'm gonna add to my base. Just a lighten up, some of the green, Okay? And I'm gonna do the same thing to my leaves. I'm just gonna layer them with my different greens, blues and turquoise grabs more of this avocado. - Just gonna mix some of the colors that are already on my palace to make some new colors and back to my flowers. I'm gonna have some darker areas and some lighter areas for my flowers. But I'm also going Teoh mix my paint so I don't want TEM to be just pure red or pure magenta. I'm gonna mix up my palate so you can see that the layering makes it darker. The second coat always makes it darker and adding different colors or different values. Um, we'll add some highlights and shadows. If you mix everything up on your palate, you can see you get different tones of the same color family. - I think I'm gonna make this flower just a little bit bigger. - Okay ? I'm gonna let this dry for a few minutes and look it over and see what I eat need to do to finish it up. 5. 5 Layering and final details: Okay, So for my final details, I'm going to touch up the vase a little bit, and I'm going to go over my negative space one more time. So I'm gonna take a really small brush. I'm gonna wet it so that my paint flows and I'm gonna just touch up my water, lying some darker spots. I don't really like that. I'm just gonna try to blend that back in. There we go. Gonna add a couple of little highlights to my base here. Then I'm gonna blend the transition between my leaves and vase. - My pal. It's getting pretty dry. I might need to add some more paint. We'll see. Okay. I'm gonna take, um, a clean brush and at a couple of highlights to my flowers just a couple with a light touch . If you do too many or too much white, you can always go over it. It was another caller and I like to add just a touch of this light blue. One spot I see on my flowers that I want to touch up is right here. I just want that overlap a little bit more. Okay. I think I'm done with my flowers. and leaves. And my last step is going to be to just go over this negative space one more time. You can reshape your vase if you need to. It's a little lopsided. You could straighten it out. You can reshape some of your leaves at this point. Also, I'm happy with how my painting looks so far, But I'm feeling like I need a few more details on brushstroke marks in my flowers and in my leaves just to make my painting really pop. So I'm gonna add some nice thick paint to my tulips. A couple of highlights. I'm having a tiny bit of yellow just to give it a little bit more color. Now I have some nice thick paint on my flowers and I'm just adding a couple more pops of green to Miley, - okay ?
