1. 1 INTRO: I have designed and sold this pair of size little flare pens. And today I will be taking you through the whole process of drawing and coloring this fashion illustration. These are a few sketches that I have done in the past. Hi everyone. My name is Colleen and welcome to my class. The topics I will be discussing in this project are the sketch layout, scaling human body, drawing the movement axis. Sketching the skeletal structure, shaping the silhouette, creating the outfit outlines. Tracing the sketch, emphasizing the figure, defining the volumes by coloring and adding background colors and shades. The tools you need are some paper, fences, an eraser, a pencil sharpener, colored pencils, watercolor, palette to mix the colors and brushes. I will be using Adobe Photoshop to color the figure. But if you use the tools that I have suggested before, you can still follow my coloring process. So take a big bag of popcorn to your desk and let's get started. 2. 2 THE SKETCH LAYOUT: The first thing to consider when starting a drawing is the way you lay it out on the page. I took an example on an A4 page format. So in this case, you don't want to draw a small finger on the page. Needed to position it completely to the left or to the right or up and down. Also, do not draw your finger too large for the size of the page. As in this case, you suffocate your character. You have to consider the size of the page and frame the silhouette properly. Leave some space on the top so that the figure can breathe, so to speak. The bottom line can be closer to the edge of the page as this will be the ground. Another rule is to leave more space on the side of the paper towards the direction your character looks. 3. 3 SCALING A HUMAN BODY: Next you will have to consider doing some measurements to determine the proportions of the body. You can take these measurements on the example you replicate with the pencil, establish the center of the figure and transfer it re-scaled on your paper. This will be the bikini point. The proportions of the fashion silhouette are generally exaggerating, their elongated and slimmer than a reality. All the measurements from your reference picture and translate them re-scaled to your paper. The head represents 18 from the entire figure. Taking into account the bottom line of the supporting leg. 4. 4 DRAWING THE MOVEMENT AXES: Observing the movement of the body is very important to draw domain X is the shoulder line, chest line, waistline, the hips, and the position of the knees. Draw these axes with light lines. Their purpose is only to guide you the balance of the body. Note that the body stands on the left leg. So the shoulder line and the chest line bends towards the left side, the waste, the hips and the knees. X is with counterbalancing. So they bend towards the opposite direction. Also, the axis are not parallel, but they followed the perspective principle. Now, draw the center line of the figure, which is an oblique line. A very important detail is that on a straight line, the juggler notch will be on the same line as the inside of the ankle. That is the rule when a silhouette support is on one leg. You can check this by measuring the reference picture from the left edge of the jugular notch and the inside of the left ankle. 5. 5 SKETCHING THE SKELETAL STRUCTURE: On the reference picture, the figure is from half profile, so the left side of the body is thinner. Measure the picture and translate the measurements to your page. Join the points you have just created. Draw an oval for the shape of the head. And the vertical axis lightly object to the right. As the model's head is half profile and is looking to the right. The eyes position is on the center of the oval. Then divide the free lower part of the oval for the nose and the mouth positioning. The ears are positioned on the Browse and nose axis. 6. 6 SHAPING THE SILHOUETTE: Continue by drawing the neck, the master with line and the jugular notch. Build the chest volume by drawing the axis that follows the same perspective principle. Start contouring the silhouette. Observe on the picture the elbow position, which is normally on the waistline when the arm lies along the body. In this case, the armies flux It's sold the elbow point will be higher. When the arm is relaxed it along the body, the fingertips will arrive at the mid distance of the tides. In this case, the fingers are flexed so their position will be higher. Draw the shoulders and the collar bones. Then continue by drawing the bikini lines. Some designers don't go into such details as drawing the eyes, the nose, and the mouth. As they consider these details so powerful us. For them, the clothing is the most important thing and this is the aspect they want to highlight. But drawing the facial details as the hairstyle and the makeup can give life to the subject and more expressiveness and contribute to the outcome of the Crockett and complement the fashion style. 7. 7 CREATING THE OUTFIT OUTLINES: Now it's time to dive into the outfit outlines. This is the fun part. Draw the details of the t-shirts, the sleeves, and the color, and also the hair shape. Drawing the draping and the pleats of the pants will contribute in giving volume to the body and we'll emphasize the movement as well. The sketch is finished. 8. 8 TRACING THE SKETCH: Let's make this catch more presentable and trace it on a blank paper in order to have cleaner lines. Place a blank page over the sketch and put them over a window so that you can have some transparency. Stick the corners of the paper with a scotch tape, but to prevent it from moving or falling, start outlining the sketch. 9. 9 EMPHASISING THE FIGURE: Go over this figure again, but this time by paying attention to have clean lines. This exercise will help you to better master the drawing process by practicing it and it will develop your dexterity. Also, the purpose of this step is to highlight the lines that are closer to your eyes so that you bring these details in the front light, the right leg, shoulder, the line of the back, and the edge of the T-shirt line. You can emphasize the weight of the model by drawing thicker and stronger lines on the inside of the left leg, for example. 10. 10 DEFINING THE VOLUMES BY COLOURING: Once you have your final outline, you are going to start coloring. If you choose Photoshop to color this figure, then photocopy this page, or take a photo and transfer it to your computer. If you use watercolors, colored pencils for this step, you can follow my coloring method that I perform in Photoshop. But in this case, you will have to apply your watercolor, wait to dry. Or you can use a hairdryer for quick dry and then use the colored pencil to draw the shades and the lights on the top outline the shapes of the face and hands with a lighter color. And as you paint the shadows, use darker colors. Apply the same technique for the rest of the illustration. Okay. 11. 11 ADDING BACKGROUND COLOURS AND SHADES: Adding a background color and sheets to a subject will help improve your image and stand out even more. Apply the sheath on the lighter side of your sketch to create contrast. Thank you. 12. 12 FINAL THOUGHTS: To recap, the main points of this lesson were the sketch layout, scaling a human body, drawing the movement axis, sketching the skeletal structure, shaping the silhouette, creating the outfit outlines. Tracing the sketch, emphasizing the figure, defining the volumes by coloring, and finally adding background colors and shades.
