2. Creating Paper : [MUSIC] Hi guys. Hello everyone. During our today's class I'm
going to teach you how to paint lovely cute animals
in gouache style. For today's class, I prepared two different sets
for the Procreate, different kinds of brushes and we're going to
work with textures, a lot today and I
hope you likes it. Guys, If you are ready, we can start painting. Well, first of all we need
to create our texture paper, so how to do that. We need to open Procreate and after that we
need to tap plus and tap plus again and after that switch from
pixels into inches. After that, we need to
write 11 by 13 inches. As you see the DPI is 300 and maximum
layers that we might have is 37, tap create. This is our canvas, and guys what I
want to tell you we have lots of freebies
and where to find them. In this case, we need to go to our class and open
it in browser, not in Skillshare app. Because if you open that
in a Skillshare app, my freebies might
not be visible. You open my class in browser, it can be Chrome or Safari. After that you go to projects
and sources section, and in the right corner under
the headline resources, you can find all my freebies. Among the freebies we have two brush sets,
also color palette, gouache paper and we also have some sketches and my own
pictures that I drew. You might use it for
your inspiration, for example in any way you like, so how to export our texture
paper into the Procreate. You need to tap all those
files and they will be automatically downloaded
in the downloads folder, so you need to go to files app, just tap share and export with Procreate and after that all your files or
your color palettes, brushes and paper will be automatically export
it into the Procreate, I can show you how to do it. You split the screen into
two parts, you save here. From one part we have file's app and you need to
go to downloads folder. I have my files in another
folder so it's called art classes but you need to
go to downloads folder. From another side, we
have Procreate app, so how to export all our files. You have very simple
way how to do it. For example, if you
take the sketch, I take this sketch from
my previous class about Ukrainian folk art so you can just drag and drop it
into the Procreate. You see it's automatically, it's imported in
procreate as a new layer. You see you can turn
it off as you wish. I will clear it because we will create our own sketches today. Next, I will teach you how to export our brushes, what
you're going to do, we will go choose a brush set, drag, and drop it
into the Procreate. You see now it's imported
into the Procreate. It's here but in your case, it will be on the top
of your brush library. Next step we have our
swatches, do same, drag drop into the Procreate, and now we have
our color palette. Yes, it's here, cute animals. You're going to set it as a default as a
notepad over here. The last things that we
have is gouache paper. What you're going
to do in this case, we're going to exports a paper. You also have two options
you can drag and drop like this or if you have
another option and I will teach you
what we should do. Duplicate our layer two times, after that we are on one layer, we need to go to action button to have a head and
tap, Insert a File. This is a second way how
you can export our paper, and you need to go
to downloads folder, choose our gouache paper and download it
into the Procreate. We have our paper, now let's rotate paper. Rotate, rotate, fit to canvas, and you see we still
have some edges, so in this case we will just
move out paper to the sides. Guys, my suggestion use uniform because if
you use free form, it may distort our proportions. We have our paper, next we need to
duplicate the paper two times and move our
blending mode to linear burn and we need to move out a second blending
mode to color burn. Next step, let's duplicate the layers and merge
them together. After that hover the linear
burn mode till 50 percent. Select two layers, you see how I did it
by swiping right, you select the second layer. Next, let's press
Group and after that we need to rename this
group and write paper. This is our paper, and after that, we need to go to
lower layer also rename it and write paint here. After that, duplicate paint here layer a few times like that. Our paper is ready and we
can paint on our paper. Guys pay attention, we need to paint underneath our paper layer group because
if you do that on top, the texture might
not be reasonable, so please pay attention. Now let's talk about
our color palette. That one, I decided to use very harmonious and not
bright color palette for our today's class here. I prepared for so many brushes, so let's look at them. The cute animals brush set, you might see if I took the
two brushes from a reach our native Procreate brushes
also boo gouache brush, boo gouache blender,
garage blender, boo grain, y boo scrap. Also boo watercolor backgrounds
that can help us to add some shades, dry brush, which is native Procreate
brush and I prepared for you so many brushes because they had to add textured brushes, I can show you boo
gouache brush. This brush is cool
because you see with each new stroke you have
some color variations. Boo gouache blender, you can use it as a brush, it's also very textured and also you can use this brush
as a blender as well. Boo grainy, great brush if you want to add some texture, and we're going to use it
like many times today. Boo scrap also cool brush if
you want to add some shades, collaborations and so on. Watercolor background, very
gentle watercolor brush. After that, if you want
to clean the paper, you just need your three fingers and move it back and forth. Next, boo simple stamp, now we have so many
stamp brushes are here, 10 stamp brushes. This is very gentle
texture brush that help you to add some fur. Next boo simple stamp nine, also very lovely dots. I like the feelings
that they create, also bigger strokes that also can help you to
add some fur dots. Let's clean it, clear, move to next brush set. This is my favorite stamps, you see is that the dots that
it helps to add is amazing. It's all hand painted, I spend some time
creating those stamps. This is another fur,
some scratches. Also can help you to add some texture to
your illustration. Bigger you see scratches, you see they are
more dense and one. They're more chaotic, but it has more space between strokes. This is our first stamp that you might use
as a background, fish skin if you
decide to paint fish because animals also have fish and those strokes
are also very useful. Now let's talk about
animals, you see a next, I have so many beautiful, lovely kinds of animals. We have beautiful
color which is here. We have guinea pig that we
are going to paint today, penguin very lovely one. Also we have copy
bar, rabbit, alpaca. I tried to make some cute, we might use all also stems, it can help us to
save lots of time. But also I can explain you how I created the stamps
and I'll show you how to create sketch
if you want of course or you can just grab the
creatures that I chose, and grab one of those
creatures and paint them. I had lots of sea creatures, those stamps are from one
of my previous classes, which is called cute animals. But in my previous class I use watercolor technique
to paint them. Now, we're going to
use gouache brushes. Also, I forgot to
mention that I will use a second brush set which
is called boo textures, so I created recently, especially for you from my
lovely Skillshare community where I have lots of texture
brushes, I'll show you. This is a universal brush, it can help you to add some
more texture sharpness, this actually malt so when
you paint the nature, it's cool to put
mold on some stones, some trees, blue dots, amazing brush it helps to
add very cute texture. Boo cracks, also great if you want to
edit like anywhere. Boo roof light if you
like to paint roofs, it will ease your
painting process a lot. Boo roof dark if you want to
paint your roof at night, and boo wood, we're going to use
this brush today, it helps you see to add
this wooden texture. I think we've done and now we are ready to move
to the next part and we're going to paint our first illustration which
is these lovely koala, with so many texture
brushes, let's go.
3. Painting Illustration : [MUSIC] We are ready to paint this lovely
koala on the tree. Let's find our koala first, it's here, and I'm going to use this tiny picture as an
example with how I should do. Here, maybe we can increase the size a little bit or I can
place it here for a while. I think I want to extend here
the tree trunk little bit. Grab dry ink brush. [MUSIC] I think it looks very pretty. Next, I want to finish the
illustration, as you see, I would like to add
some kind of sky, like shows that
this isn't night. Now I want to make our
koala a little bit smaller. Mode here and paint lovely moon. There's different
kinds of stars. Lovely sketch is ready. Let's start adding some color. We're on a layer which is
underneath of everything. I'm going to keep
the sketching layer the whole time because I
think it looks very pretty, and now we can start
adding some colors. I'm going to use boo gouache
brush as our base color. [MUSIC] You see what is cool because with each new stroke you have different kinds of color
variations, which is very cool. Now we need to create new layer, and then want to paint
our koala separately. I want to grab lighter
color, even lighter. [MUSIC] I like this baby blue color, it helps us to create
very lovely feeling, and maybe you might
use the illustration. I don't know, maybe for, like it's a picture
book illustration, or you would like to create
some kind of clip art, or maybe some kind of postcard. It all might be very suitable. [MUSIC] I can also going to paint
separately, like that. New layer for our
lovely nose, like that. Yellow color for the stars,
maybe even brighter. [MUSIC] Now background color, [MUSIC] I like such kind of background looks very
cute, like that. Next step, I think it's time
to add some kind of shades. So how to do that. We started with our tree trunk, we're going to use it as well, but I think I want to make
it a little bit lighter. I'm on my layer, opposite, I go to curves and I make
it lighter, a little bit. I want to add lots
of colors because I think our today's illustration shouldn't be that colorful, it should have very
beautiful effect. Use a saturation brightness, increase the brightness as well, increase the saturation
a little bit. Here, if you like, you can
play with the calibrations. I still will stick to the
same colors, perfect. So the created new layer
on top and we're going to press "Clipping mask".
What does it mean? It means that when you
paint on a new layer, like I show you, we can go beyond the
lines of our tree trunk. For example, let me grab
boo watercolor background. You see I just can paint
this on our selected layer. We're going to change the
blend mode to multiply and then this gives you see our shades would
be very visible. Guys, I'm going to use
boo watercolor background as our blender, because I want to
make it very gentle. [MUSIC] Same, I'm going to do this
our lovely color, I will press "Clipping mask", I'll move to multiply, same brush, and either grab
pretty a bright blue color. Okay, guys, now let's merge together all our
layers with shades, you see this one and this one. Next, we'll create
one more layer above, also press "Clipping mask", move the plan to
layer to multiply. Next guys, I'm going to
use boo grainy brush, and I want to show some shade. Because our artwork
today is very textured, so we need to create
lots of textures. Also, in an area where two objects are
next to each other, we will have many shades. [MUSIC] Likes it. Now to save this color, clip it, multiply,
gouache color. We're going to add a
little bit of shades, I still want to add some color variations
to the koala as well, because I want to add more
shades, more texture. I can next say that I
will merge that together, I'll create one more
layer and I will clip it. I will not change blending mode, boo gouache blender brush, grab lighter color, and you see I can
show some texture. Emphasize some lighter parts, the area around the nose. [MUSIC] Next, as a blender, we use boo gouache
blender as well. You see it helps us to add
more texture, [MUSIC]like that. Now I want to grab some pinkish color and
show with a pink color, a little bit of color
variations, like that. The color is very lovely. If you want, you can go to curves and play with
saturation and so on. I think now it looks wonderful. Next tab, we will go to our
sketch and press "Select", so now our sketch is selected. Next, I'm going to use
boo gouache brush, and switch from brown
color into blue. I think it would
look more realistic. Perfect. Same we're going
to do with the moon, I will grab yellowish
color, even darker. [MUSIC] The rest we shouldn't
change anything. I like the colors
that we have here. Let's go further and do
same with our tree trunk. Create one more layer, clip it, grab boo gouache blender brush, and I want to add
more color variation. [MUSIC] Some highlights, blender brush. [MUSIC] If you don't want you don't need to blend it
entirely, like that. [MUSIC] I like that. Now it's the same
as the background. Merge together, go with to the background color and press "Clipping Mask." Same gray, pretty
lovely pinkish color. Let's try to show some texture. If you want, we can add a
little bit of purple color, just a tiny bit, and also you're going to add some purple color as a reflection on a tree trunk. Switch the blending
mode to screen. [MUSIC] It looks very
good, merge together. Now, let's go to our
background layer. Use Blending Tool and blend it. [MUSIC] I like this color variations. Go to Curves, play around. Yeah, I like it. Made made it more saturated, merge it together as well. Next step, I think it's
time to add more texture. In this case, we are going
to go to our tree trunk, press "Clipping Mask,"
move to Multiply, go to Boo textures
and grab Boo Wood. Now carefully add
some kind of strokes. Also, try to imitate
the direction. You see? You need to turn your
painting in the right way. [MUSIC] I like that, it creates an amazing feeling. Next [inaudible],
what you can do, also create new
layer in between. It's automatically in
a clipping mask mode. Go grab a lighter color
and you have same brush, but you can add some highlights, not everywhere, just on the area we have
the lightest parts. Remember, and you might change the Plant mode to Screen like this and erase the parts
that are in shadow. Like that. It looks perfect. Now, let's go to the
layer where we have shades with the same texture. Now we need to add a little bit of shade,
grab Boo Universal. You see it thanks
to the texture, we can add even more authentic realistic
feeling of the tree trunk. [MUSIC] I think we're done with the tree trunk,
it looks beautiful. Now let's move to
our lovely koala. Merge it together. Create new layer, clip it, and let's add some
fur, mode to Multiply. Grab blush color, Cute Animals, and here we have variety of so many lovely and
cute textures. You can decide by yourself
which one you like more. I'm going to use this
Boo Simple Stamp 10 because it helps me to
add very gentle texture. But of course I'm going
to combine the textures. Go to Curves, if you
think that's a texture, it's not that visible. You see? It helps you to
make it more visible. You can grab Boo Simple Stamp 9. I like when I have
some tiny dots, of course not everywhere, just in some areas. [MUSIC] Next, let's grab
Boo Simple Stamp 4, and from this side, let's see if you're going
to add some texture. [MUSIC] Just follow the
direction, and be careful. Don't put too much. Also, you can grab white color or create layer in between, and also add some white strokes. Like that, good. Don't forget about pink color. Like that it makes
it more realistic. I don't like how that looks. Go to Multiply, blend the layer mode
and now you can play around with the textures. Next, I want to add some kind of these stems to
the background. How to do that? I'll create one
layer, I'll clip it, and move to pretty
bright pink color and grab Boo Simple Stamp. If you want, you can change
the blend in layer mode, like in the Multiply, but I think I want
to keep it normal. I can lower the
opacity a little bit, and still keeps
the texture here. It looks very beautiful. Now I want to add some shades to the
nose and to the moon. It has no textures. Go move to Multiply
blend in layer mode. Here I want to add some dots
to the moon and to the nose. Let's start with the moon. Same with our lovely nose. Like that. Also, if you like, you can
grab white color. Go to our to lovely Koala
and add some dots here. Increase the size and
add dots to the ear. I still want to add some
shades to the moon. In this case, I can grab
Boo Simple Stamp 3, which is very messy. You see [inaudible] the filling. Also, it's going to add this
same filling to the stars, and of course to nose. [inaudible]. Now, let's merge
everything together. Koala together, our moon,
and our background. Once again, it's
optional, it's up to you. You might avoid the stamps
or you might keep them. I still think what
I want to have in the end, and in the end, I want to add a little
bit of stamps to our Koala and that
will be the end, and tiny scratches, and that would be the end.
4. Adding Final Details : [MUSIC] What I'm going to do? Multiply. [MUSIC] This is very lovely and I
made him pretty bright. I like it. Next, I'm going to
add tiny shades. I will use another brush
towards the Koala and that would be the end of painting
Koala. Let me think. I want to add boo scrub. [MUSIC] Go to curves. Tiny bit of shades here. The shades are very bright. Also, if you want you
can grab boo grainy, grab white color, move to the green, and [MUSIC] light color. Now, it's the last final step. I'm going to grab
boo 6B pencil and I enlarge together
everything like that. I'm going to add some shades. Once again, this
is a layer that I placed on top of everything. I want to add some messy
lines around the Koala. I will move to multiply. Because I want to
show the shades, try ink brush, [MUSIC] and try to add as
many details as possible. Lovely nose. Now, let's add some shades around
the tree trunk as well. Guys, I'm going to
speed up the video in order to save your time. [MUSIC] Boo simple stamp 9, [MUSIC] boo simple stamp 10. [MUSIC] Just a little bit
of messy strokes. [MUSIC] Now, if I know final step, I want to add some shades that we have in
our lovely Koala. How to do that, we're going to create one more layer right on top of our Koala
and I will clip it. I haven't moved to multiply. Later we're going to adjust the opacity, that's
very important. Next step, I have to grab
a boo gouache brush, control the size, the opacity, we'll
control later. In the areas where two
objects are next to each other, we have shades. Under the ear, in this area, under eye, and around
the nose of course, and here, and also
fronts of leg. Next step you need to
adjust the opacity. We're going to go to opacity, and lower it a little bit. Looks wonderful, but
I want to blend it. I think this is too sharp. Grab our blending brush and
just blend it a little bit. Because I want it to
look more realistic. [MUSIC] Like that. Same as a nose,
clip it, multiply. Nose, next we have
our moon, some stars. Same, lower the opacity
to 50 percent. I like it. I don't want to blend it, same as the tree trunk, move to multiply, clip it. Same brush, but of
course, different color. [MUSIC] I like it, looks wonderful. Also lower the opacity
to 45 percent. I think now it looks
very beautiful. I think it would be
great if we could make our Koala which is
cute, even cuter. What we can do, we
create a new layer. Next, we'll grab dry ink brush, and I want to paint a flower. Because this is lovely girl. I think it would be
great to show it. Maybe we can make the flower a little bit smaller, like that. Move to yellow color, and create one more layer, and paint on top, like that. Next, we need to
add some shade of course. What we usually do. In this case, I'll go, and let me think, move to pinkish color, create one more layer
on top of our leaves, petals, clip it, move to multiply as usual, have same brush, add a little bit of texture. Maybe I don't want to have it, that sharp, lower the opacity. Save with our lovely heart of
a flower move to multiply, after that clip it, like that. Now, we need to show
the shade from the floral on our lovely
Koala. How to do it? We're on the layer
with shades remember. Grab boo gouache brush, grab our lovely dark blue color. We show the shade from the
floral on our lovely Koala. Also add some pink color and blend it a little
bit to make it brighter. I like when the color
is more saturated. That's why I would like to add some beautiful
contrast tiny bit. I think the picture
is finished guys. I hope you enjoyed
our today's tutorial. I can show you. See we
have lots of textures. We added lots of stamps, lots of this great trees. I think it helps us to create very beautiful and
realistic illustration. Guys, next week I will teach you how to paint lovely
illustration. Our topic will be Ukrainian
folklore, some fairy tales. We're going to paint
beautiful love story. Also, I would like to hear your feedback about
our today's class. If you want me to paint
all together with all of your new lovely animals in gouache style with
lots of textures, please feel free
to tell me that. I would be very happy
to get your feedback. To give my own feedback on
your own illustrations. Let's see each other in
a new class. Bye bye. [NOISE] This is
end of our class. But I hope you enjoyed
our today's class, and you got lots of inspiration, and you created lovely
illustrations with baby animals in gouache style. Guys, I would be
happy to see all of your beautiful artworks and let's see each other
in a new class. Bye bye. [MUSIC]
