At the end of my class you will learn more about Procreate and composition, especially how to use layers, clipping mask, alpha lock, selection tool and how to add texture, volume and color variation to your picture. And most importantly - you will learn how to paint gouache illustrations with botanicals in a simple way and new painting technique.

You can use the illustration you create for posting in Instagram, add it to your portfolio, or sell it on Etsy, Gumroad and so on. Or just share it with someone whom you really like. I am sure they will be so happy to get an illustration that is created by you.

Today I want to show you that gouache is so simple and it’s a real fun!

And in the end of my class you can see it.

Today I will teach you:

  • How to create texture paper,
  • How create artwork from the sketch,
  • What is composition;
  • How to create traditional gouache illustrations in Procreate,
  • How to paint picture from reference picture,
  • How to use my and default Procreate brushes for painting in gouache style,
  • How to apply my new painting techniques,
  • What are the nuances you need to know if you want to create gouache illustration,
  • How to use alpha lock and clipping mask,
  • How to add texture to our artwork,
  • I will also show you how to add shades and highlights.

I will show you my whole process from the start till finish.

And as a bonus I will share with you my textured paper, custom brushset, color palette, sketch, that I created. I will also add file of my pictures that i drew. Feel free to use it for your own art projects.

This class is great for intermediate level, also can be useful for beginners (if you watched my previous classes) and experienced artist - probably here you can find an inspiration and new ways how to paint plant illustration.

I'll show you my whole process from the start to finish and as a bonus, I will share with you my textured paper, custom brush set, color palette sketch that I created. I will also add file of my pictures that I drew. Feel free to use it for your own art projects. This class is great for intermediate level, also can be useful for beginners. If you watched my previous classes and experienced artists, probably here you can find an inspiration in new ways how to paint botanical illustrations in gouache style. Your class project will be next. Paint illustration with botanicals using the tips and brushes that I gave you today. I will use Procreate. For this class we use iPads and Apple Pencil. If you have it or some other drawing pads or just regular paper and paints, please join our class. Good luck. 2. Creating Paper: [MUSIC] I think we are ready. Guys, we need to grab our Apple pencil. First of all, I want to show you how to create paper. We need to tap plus and after that tap plus again. After, I 12, parent nine inches. As you see, if you have 300 DPI resolution, and maximum layers that we can have is 51. Tap Create. This is our today's paper. As you see, this is almost the size of our iPad. Why I changed the size of our paper a little bit today, because I want to place more botanicals on a paper and create some lovely composition. What we should do, we'll create a couple of new layers and after that, our next step, we need to export all our freebies into the Procreate. How to do, guys, when you open my class, please do it in browser. It can be Chrome or Safari because if you open my class in Skill share app, my freebies might not be visible. The next step where you can find all my freebies, in Projects and Sources section in the right corner under the headline Resources, you can see all my freebies. You download them. After that you can find them in Downloads folder in your files app on iPad. Now let's export our paper. You need to tap Action button, tap Add, and tap Insert a file. After that you go to Downloads folder and you will find our papers there. This is our gouache paper. I will rotate it and I will press Fit to screen. But you see, because the size is a little bit too big of our canvas, we need to move our paper to the edges like this. Next step, let's duplicate our layer and blend in layer mode to linear burn and color burn. After that, we need to duplicate linear burn one time and merge it together. After that, duplicate color burn and merge it together as well. Next, lower the linear burn mode to a 50 percent like this, maybe even 55. Great and don't change the opacity in our color burn mode, it's totally fine. Next, you select two layers and you press Group. After that, we need to rename it. We can write Paper. Next, we will rename one of the layers and we will write to Paint here. Now, let's duplicate this layer a couple of times. Perfect. Great. Then, now the paper is created. Guys, once again, pay attention when you create your artwork. When you paint, please do it underneath our paper layer group. Now I want to show you how to export our sketches into the Procreate. Great. As you see, you split the screen, you place this Procreate app in the right corner and Files tab in the left corner. Now I have another folder because I created those sketches, but all your sketches will be in Downloads folder. What you should do next, you will just go and tap, drag, and drop the sketch here into the Procreate. You might see it here. That will create one more layer, turn off this one. I want to drag and drop all the sketches into the Procreate because later we're going to create lowly composition. Same, you will do with this color palette here, and same you will do with our brushes. You just need to drag and drop it into the Procreate and it will be in M on color palettes and it will be M on your brush sets. You see, this is a brush set. That's it. Now, if you don't need this Files app, so just move it a little bit. Here already, I have for you sketches. As you see here, we have our sketches, that I already created. We have some variations and options here, but once again, I'll also show you how to actually create and I'll show you the reference how to create a sketch. That's pretty simple. Also, I will show you the brushes. Let me show it to you. Here we have a pretty small brush set. Actually, I created for you three new brushes and this is one native Procreate brush. For today's class we just need four brushes and that's it. Native Procreate brush Inka brush, I do like to use it as a sketcher. There's a liner, it's perfect. Next, boo gouache brush. I'll increase the size. This brush is amazing because it can show you some color variations and it creates very authentic feeling. Next boo gouache blender. This brush you might use as a blender or you can use it as a brush as well. Last one, boo grainy. This is some shader. It will help you to add some texture to your gouache artwork. I'll show you later how it works. You will see it. It's very cool, if you wanted some grains. Let's clear it. Now, speaking about color palette, we're going to use this color palette for our today's class. I showed you everything. I explained you how to create texture paper. Now, let's jump into our next part where I'll show you how to create sketches and how to use reference pictures. / 3. Creating Sketch: We are ready to move to the next part. Here, I'll show you how to use reference picture and how to use my sketches that I already created. First of all, we need to export our reference picture into the Procreate. How to do that. You need to go to action button, go to canvas, and after that tap reference. I have to then go to Image and you may go to your camera roll or you can import the image from the downloads folder and export it here. This is our reference picture for today's class. First of all, guys, I'll show you how to create a sketch and how to use reference picture. We will go to Inka brush. We will create one more layer underneath this one. First of all, I'II show you how to use our sketches, how to use our reference pictures. I like this reference and I'm going to use it for our today's sketch. Which should we do? Of course, you can take this reference picture, export it to the layers, lower the opacity, and after just trace it. But if you want to practice your painted skills, you want to try to paint yourself, that's great option, great idea. I'll show you how to do that. We already have reference picture. Next thing that we should do, you have two options. First of all, if you paint waists or something that is very symmetrical, you will go to Actions button, you go to canvas and after you go and press Drawing Guide and have to press Edit Drawing Guide, and write symmetry. Perfect. After that, go to options and be sure that assisted drawing is turned on, that's very important. After that tap "Done", after that, you see when you paint from one side, you also paint automatically from another side side as well. You see it's easier to paint the waist or whatever your paint or pot. If you don't like it, you might go to liquefy tool, grab, push, and push it a little bit like this, low versus size and push this. Now, Perfect. Next we need to paint the rope, I think it's called rope, like this. Now, our aim is to turn off our drawing guide. What we're going to do it, you go to Canvas, turn off our drawing guide. But you see it's still working. What should we do? In this way you might go and press Drawing Assist turned off and now wherever you paint, it's just for one side. Our next step, we need to paint this label. So try to paint rectangle. You also use Inka brush as an eraser. Control the size eraser, don't use too big an eraser. Next here, you need to paint the rope from this side. Erase some overlap and that's important. Here you can paint whatever like basil or you can just paint to my friend or my love. Here, you can paint a heart. We're done with this our pot. Now let's paint flower. You can paint any floral you like, you can just imitate the same floral here. We need to draw the stem. After that go and paint some leaves. You might just use your imagination and draw something like add some florals or whatever you like. This is the first one and I want to draw the second stem over there. Voila, we have our sketch based on a reference and once again, you didn't trace it. But this is also a good option, but once again, if you don't feel confident while painting botanicals, if you want to practice, you might just use a reference picture and look at the picture and just try to paint a similar one. Once again, it's not important. It's not necessarily you will paint exact one, botanical. You might add some variations, you might change the style, you might change the shape of a pot. Anything you want, It's your artwork, it's your imagination and you are free to do whatever you want. We've done with this part. We still have our reference picture. Let it be because we're going to use some colors. You want to check how to use, what to paint and so on. I like this lovely sketch. I will turn it off. If you want, we can use it, we can paint as well. It's up to us. Our next step is we're going to create lovely compositions. As you see I created, I paint some botanicals separately from the pots. The pots are here and our aim is to choose a pot that we like and we're going to create some composition. We're going to combine pots and flowers together and have to place it here on our paper. I think for flowers would be pretty enough. I paint six pots and plenty of flowers. More than six for sure. Let's start with pots. I think it's a good idea. If you decide to draw this plant, we already have it. I'm going to use it and I'll make it slightly smaller. I place one here. Second pot, press copy and paste, and place it here. Now, let's think which flowery want to use for this pot. What do we have? This is very lovely. We have plenty of flowers and sometimes it's so hard to choose. I think I wanted to use this one, it's very unusual. If you're going to use just three branches, but they look amazing, Copy and Paste as well. Turn it off. Turn on our Ways. You're going to use a Free Form and try to fit it in, and have to just try to erase the parts that you don't need, like this. Go to our Ways and erase overlapping, like that. You're going to combine it together. Later we're going to place it on our paper, so we already have two lovely florals. Be careful use Uniform for this time. If you want, we can extend the size of our paper, if it's not enough space. Turn off, turn off. Let's move to next port. I think I want to use this one. I'll press Copy and Paste. I want to paint sunflowers, stay here. Next, grab Eraser, go to our pot, or you can grab Selection Tool, Freehand, and select Overlapping. Cool. We already have more flowers. Let's place them together, merge together and place them here. Yeah, probably we will need to change the size of our paper. But it's pretty simple to do, I'll show you. You're going go to Action button, tap Canvas and tap Crop and Resize. Now just move it a little bit to this part. It can be, you can go to Settings, you see it to a block 13 per 9, not 12 per 9. Don't worry about the paper, you also can fix it. You're going to go to Paper, go to choose the Selection tool and just move it a little bit. Perfect. We need one more floral, let's think what it might be. Turn off, turn off, turn off. Let's going to pot, and I think wants it to be like, maybe this lovely pot, and press Copy and Paste. Now, I think about the flowers, we have so many options. Now let's paint this Monstera leaf, press Copy and Paste, then remove overlappings. I created one more leaf. Now, merge it together. Great. When we rotate the paper, we do have more space for our lovely art works, for our lovely plants. I think this plant is too simple for our illustration, so I want to make it a little bit more complicated. What I should do? I want to change this plant, I want to use this pot, and I want to change this plant into another plant because I think we need to add more flowers. What are we going to do? I will select this plant, also press Copy and Paste, turn it off. Now let us return to our layer where I merged together all our plants. I'll go grab Free hand and I will delete the plant and switch it to another one. Three fingers down and I'll press Cut. Perfect. Next step, I'll go to our plants that I like, and I do like source florals. I think it would be so beautiful to paint it, and a little bit more complicated. Let's try to challenge ourselves and try to use more complicated plants. After that press Copy and Paste. Turn it off. Here, let's rotate our plant. Be careful, go to Uniform tool. Also be careful with the proportions, it should be very organic and erase overlapping, like that. Now as you see some of the plants, they are very close to each other, so we can switch the places. What I will do is, I will merge together this plant with the pot, three fingers down and press Cut and Paste. Do same, select this plant, use Selection tool and just move it to the top. Lovely. Now we have our lovely Monstera, place it a little bit lower, merge together, and a little bit lower. Our sketch is ready. Guys, I hope now you understand how to use the sketches that I created, how to create sketch by yourself, and let's move to the next part where we're going to paint all those plants one by one, all together. Let's go. 4. Creating 1st Illustration: Gouache: [MUSIC] As I had told you at the beginning of our class, we're going to use some stylish variations of coarse style. That means that I've a paint in just solid coarse style and I won't to mix colors too much. The other way is that I will combine gouache and ink together. Also, I will just try to mix the colors and it will be a coarse style where we're going to blend a lot. Let's get started. I think we are ready. I will start with our first illustration, this one. We're going to use this pot as an example. Let's get started. I'll create one more layer that is underneath. Guys, also you can lock the sketch. But before that, I want to lower the opacity a little bit. I will lock the sketch and set. Can help us to avoid painting on it. After that, we create one more layer that is underneath. We're going to grab boo gouache brush. Now, we can decide which color we like most. Maybe this is beige color, like brick color. If you want, you can lower the opacity and color will not be set bright. Also control the size. A little bit brighter color here. Also remember, like I told you, that when you lift your upper pencil from the screen, you will have some variations of the color. Next, darker color. Here we show some shape. Also as a blending tool, you can use boo gouache blender and you can blend it a little bit. Now we need to slightly brighter color and also blend it. The same as this part as well. Some bright color here. We also need to paint the rope later. Slightly lighter. Now blend it too. I like how it blends, it's so organic. Like that. Next, we need to paint the tag. I'm going to use this bright blue color. Later, I'm also going to use some shades. Also what I like about the gouache brush is that it doesn't have any transparency. You don't need to duplicate the layer a few times and after try to delete the transparency, remove it, no. It's great because if you need to paint some color on top of previous color, you can do it. Now slightly lighter color. Here, white color. Blend in too like that. Now rope, yellowish color. Brighter color and some dark yellow. Be careful, don't use dark color because it would be the same color with our pot. My love, if you like you can create one more there above. Grab bluish color, grab inker brush, maybe dark blue, and you can write my love here like that. Next we have some plant. Let's return to our layer. Now, our aim is to mix some colors. Boo gouache brush, mix some shades together. This is interesting because we can't use just one solid, like one green color, of course, no. We need to add some color variations. Some of the leaves we'll paint with one shade and other leaves we'll try to use another color. This brush brushes sensitive, which is cool. If you press harder you will have thicker shade. Now I want to change the color and grab this greenish one. You see I changed the shade of, let's say, green color. Be careful here. Let's return and grab darker shade and paints the leaves that is behind the rest. You can paint also leaves layer by layer on different layers. That would be easier because you can avoid overlapping. I want to challenge myself. [LAUGHTER] I want to try to paint everything on a new layer or I want to paint everything on one layer. Done. You see, it's so beautiful. Now flowers. So the flowers will be blueish. I'm going to paint the base which is here. Now slightly darker color because behind we have [inaudible] I need to return to green color and add more stems, like that. Lighter color, boo gouache brush. Perfect and done with his part. Now I want to create one more layer underneath and I want to add some background. I'll increase the size. I want to paint a rectangle. I think I want to experiment with the colors. Go to adjustments, press hue saturation brightness. Increase the brightness, improve the saturation. It looks amazing. Like that. Now this is not the end, we need to add some details. How to that. Let's return to our layer. Create one layer above and we will clip it. Next, let's return to the sketch and lower the opacity even more, like this. Lock it again. Let's return to the layer that we clipped. I want to add some color variations. The next step, you're going to grab boo gouache blender, grab bluish color. I want to add some shades. We need to add some volume. Now, white-color. Next, grabbed boo gouache brush, lower the size. I want to add some dots. Now lighter ones. Now darker, like that. It's very artistic. Next, I will go to inker brush. I want to add some tiny bit of shades and I want to separate the vase from the plant of course. Same as the plant. Cool. We separated it a little bit. Now, we still need to add some shades. How to do that? I'll merged it together to create one more layer. Also clip it, will not change the blending layer mode. Grab boo gouache brush. It's totally normal if it's a little bit too dark because later I'll just lowers the opacity of the mode. Likes that. Do the same with leaves like this. Now let's lower the opacity a little bit. I like it. Merge that together. We've done with our first painting. Now we have three more. Let's do it step-by-step. 5. Creating 2nd Illustration: Gouache and Ink: Well, guys, we have done is our first illustration and now we can move everything to one group. I select all the layers and out press "Group". Now write first illustration. Now if you go to the layer underneath and guys pay attention for our second layer if you're going to keep our inking layer. What should we do next? We unlocked our sketch. Great. Now I need to go to the layer where we have the sketch grab selection tool. Grab freehand and select our sketch after that, press "Copy & Paste". Perfect. Now we need to lock our sketch again, move our selection, our sketch, and paint on the layer that is underneath our sketching layer. If you're going to keep this selection and I do like the way it looks, it's brilliant. This is a second way how we can paint our lovely illustration. Next, what we're going to do is we grab our book wash brush. Grabs this yellowish color. Perfect. Control the size. It's fine. You can color our petals it's okay because we can overlap later. This brush is not semi-transparent so we can paint above this color later. Wonderful. Next what I'm going to do is I've grabbed slightly darker color. I want to put it here. Wonderful. As you remember is this is sunflowers and you need to have our reference picture, Canvas, and reference picture. This one. This is our reference that we made. We have a basket and we have the sunflowers and as you might see we have the brown color here as well. Let's do it. Once again why are these brushes cool because as you see, you might have different color variations while using just one brush. This amazing. I won't blend it. I like the way how it looks now. Next, I'll create one more layer above. That's very important, and I'll start with bright orange color. Here you need to be careful because you won't remove the sketch layers. It means that you need to be very accurate. Once again, if it's too orange for you, you might go and grab slightly lighter color. Guys I'm going to speed up the video in order to save time but once again, for you take the time that you need that you want, it's totally fine. The most importantly is you should be satisfied with your art work. Trying to pay attention to it. The petals from the sunflower we paint on a new layer because later I'm going to add some shades to the basket to separate the leaves from the basket. As you see, I made this color slightly lighter. It's light yellow color. Same I'm going to do here. As you see, we use the same brush, the same color bars at three petals so the next two chatters, they have completely different hue, which is great. Great. Now grab green color. Also, let's create one more layer. Grab pretty bright green color. Maybe slightly darker. It is great but I think we need to add a little bit of shades. What I'm going to do is I'll create one more layer underneath. I want to fill all the areas you see with the green color. Great. Now we need to add some background picture. How to do that? Actually, we're going to go to our previous layer. I will duplicate it and I'll move it underneath. I'm going to move it here. I'm going to keep it that way. Blending tool. Now I want to change the color. For that, we go to hue, saturation, brightness. Now we play with the hue. I do like this blue color. I'm going to keep it. Now it's time to add some shades. How to do that? We also will add some white color because I think it's a little bit too dark. First of all, we need to create one more layer above, but underneath our sketching layer. I will grab boo gouache blender brush and I'll grab this green color. Now, also pay attention, we need to clip it. Now the layer is in clipping mask mode. I'm going to add some shades to the green color, jazz green color. I added shade to the leaves. The next step, what we're going to do is I want to add some shades to this green color as well. I'll create one more layer above this green color. Now I'll press "Clipping Mask." Now I can play with some shades and add some color variations. It looks more realistic. The next step is, I do like the way how it looks so I'm going to mask it together. I'll go to our basket and I'll press "Clipping Mask," like what we did before. Next, I'll grab this bright orange color and I'll move the blend in layer mode to multiply so it will help us to add some kind of shades. I think it's even too orange as for me, but I do like it. Grab blending tool as a blender. We are going to use Boo gouache blender brush. You'll blend it a little bit, just tiny bit. I'm going to add some shades to the black heart of the sunflower like this and I'm going to add some shade here. Grab reddish color, blending tool like this. Next step, I'm going to go and I want to add more color variations. You see on a basket we have some lines. We need to emphasize them. Don't worry, they shouldn't be that accurate. Grab blending tool. Increase the size of the blender, it makes the lines not that obvious, like this. Great. Later, we're going to add some highlights. Next, I like the way how that looks. I'll merge it together. Let's go to petals, multiply, Clipping Mask. Little bit more orange color. As you see, some of the colors next to the seeds they're very reddish that's why I want to show it. Of course not everywhere. This brush when you use it as a brush, it's also a good blender itself. Now I use this brush as a blender. Flowers' size a little bit. I need to grab bright yellow color, create one more layer. Why do we need to create one more layer? Because I don't want to change the blender layer mode. I want to keep it normal because if you choose multiply, it will be pretty dark and we don't need that for now. Now, white color. Now we need to add some highlights like this. It looks good. Next step, I still want to add some highlights so I'm going to merge it together to our leaves. Clip it just a little bit here. Merge it together to same with our basket. Clip it. Here I'm going to lower the opacity a little bit later. Because this is highlights, you need to choose an area where we don't have shades. Now, I will lower the opacity just a little bit. Now merge it together. Now I want to go to our sunflowers and I want to change the hue a little bit because, as for me, it's a little bit too reddish. I want to change this for a while and I want to separate it from the basket. I increase the saturation and I want to make it brighter like this. You also can go to curves and play with curves, but for me, it's already pretty good. You can go to basket and make it a little bit darker like this. I want to add a little bit of highlights here, not too much. I want to add some shades from the sunflower. How to do that? Create a layer, clip it, move to multiply. If you want to, you can grab even bluish color. It's totally fine. We've done with our second illustration. I hope you enjoyed it as well. What we're going to do, I'll merge it together like this and I want to merge everything together. Guys, we are ready to move to our third illustration, this one. I unlock it and make it a little bit visible. In this illustration, I'm going to show you how to use blending layer mode a lot of times how to use blending brush and I hope you will like it. Let's go. 6. Creating 3rd Illustration: Blending Technique : Great. We're ready to paint our third illustration. We're going to grab boo gouache black brush and as you see see the vase is beautiful and it's so colorful, so artistic, so I hope you will like painting this vase as well. Now, we need to select it all the three layers and we need to group them. Wonderful. I'll duplicate the layer. I grab boo gouache brush, pretty bright blue color. Increase the size. Grab darker color. It's fine if you make some mistakes later, you just can erase it. Let's grab inka brush as an eraser then gently erase the parts that went beyond the lines. I already like how it looks. But of course, we need to add more details. In this illustration, you're going to blend a lot of times. I changed the style of the vase a little bit to see. I simplified it. Lower brush size and keep coloring. Okay. Brilliant. Let's create one more layer above and I want to paint a branch of tree. I don't have reference picture for that but I think you don't need it. Just go ahead and you can just follow my steps or you can just go and choose any tree branch you like or you can just choose another flower as a botanicals and add it to the vase, because for this illustration vase is the most important today. Because we're going to learn how to mix colors, how to make our gouache illustration very realistic. Guys, I'm going to speed up the video because it will take us some time to finish our filings of color. Wonderful. Now it's time to start blending the colors. We're done with this part now let's return to our ways and let's grab boo gouache blender. Next step we need to press Alpha lock. Why do we do that? Because when we blend here, sometimes some lines can go beyond the lines beyond our vase and we don't need that. But when we press Alpha lock and we start blending, you see we can't go beyond the lines. We just [inaudible] and that's what we need. That's very convenient. Now, I want to blend area. Our aim is to make it more natural. It looks good. I need to blend anything here. That's great. You can increase the size. I like this blending. Now next step we need to start adding some shades. I forgot about this shade here you see from our vase. We can turn off our Alpha lock mode. We are on a new layer that is underneath always. Grab dark blue color, blue gouache brush, increase the size like that. You like it? We also need to add some background color like we did before. Same, I will duplicate the layer without background picture mode underneath. Move it actually here. Be careful, don't change the size because I want to keep the proportions and make everything same. Blend. Great. Looks wonderful. I want to change the color, of course. Go to hue, saturation and brightness and think about the colors. I think this color would be wonderful. I don't want change it. Keep it that way. We've done with this part. Let's erase some overlappings here. Now it's time to start adding some shades. How to do it? Same what we did before, remember, when we used clipping mask. Go grab, multiply. This time we will grab boo gouache brush to add some shades. Let's do it. It's fine if you think why is it just too dark. It's totally fine. We're going to lower the opacity later. Let's just pretend that the source of the light is from the left side here. That means it's the right side will be in the shadow. That's what we're going to show here. That means this part of the tree trunk will be slightly darker. Be careful. Two objects are next to each other, we'll also have shades. Again, cool. Now, like I told you, we will lower the opacity. You see now it's not that bright, so 50 percent off like this. Now, I want to add more shades and some other color variations. How to do it, create one more layer here. It's in a clipping mask mode. Let's think which colors we can add. You already have this color. Maybe we can add some highlights. Be careful with the highlights, we can't too much of them because in this way, the lines might not be that visible. But it's fine. Like I told you, we're going to blend a lot in this illustration. All the shades and highlights that we have, later we won't need to blend. The final touch, I'll create one more layer, set it as a clipping mask mode. I won't change the blending mode, I will grab dark brown color, and I want to show the shade one more time. Why do everything on a new layer? Because later I want to blend it, and if I place everything all in one layer and when I blend it, I might smudge the colors and you will not see this great end. That's why we would need to do it step-by-step, in order to keep the depth of the artwork. Like I told you, in watercolor and same in gouache, contrast is very important. Our aim is to try to show the depth of the illustration. It should be dynamic. I'll blend that later. Now I want to add some shades to our vase. Clip it. Also you see, you might not see that here, but underneath, our main vase, like the ball, we would have a shade. That's very important. Don't worry, later I'll blend it. Same here. Inside of the vase, there will be shadow in this area as well. Here there is a shadow, and some shade here. Also in this part. Actually clipping mass is a very similar to the Alpha lock, but the only one difference is when we use clipping mask mode, we paint on a new layer. But with Alpha look, we paint on the same layer. Now, I'll lower the opacity to 80 percent. Grab even darker shade, some bright bluish color like this. Now it's time to blend everything. We're going to grab blending tool and just say what we did before, controls the size, it shouldn't be too big. Try to smudge colors like naturally. Be careful with this part. We can blend it a little bit, but not too much. It just takes some time here. If it's first time, you can't blend it perfectly, it's fine, it's just time of practice. You can just paint a few vases or some other objects and eventually you will like your artwork. You will like what you blend, how you blend. I like the vase. If you can add a little bit of highlights and we can do it now. Clipping mask, same white-color. We also have some white shades here. Control the size. Lower the size of the blending brush and blend it carefully here. Very, very careful. Now, I think we'll need our sketching layer. We have this one, so we can turn it off like this. It looks very beautiful. Also guys, remember about the white color. We have some reflections in this area. It might not be set obvious, but we will have it. A little bit from this side. You see here. Also what else you might do, if you want, you can create a layer, clip it, grab gouache blender, use it as a brush and after as a blender and you can make the shade, not that straight it. If you want, you can play with opacity like that. Now, let's return to our tree branches. I'll merge it together and I'll merge together the vase. Now tree branches, we will go to each of them and I want to blend it. I'll start with the brightest color. Our aim is to try to make it as realistic as possible. It's a sharp lines. But drawings again, it's up to you guys. I'll just show you the way and if you like, maybe you want to keep it that way. You don't want to blend it but you still can do it. You see it's beautiful, itself without blending as well. Our next illustration, I actually will not use blending tool at all. I will just use solid colors. Now let's move to the next part. I'm going to blend this part down here and a little bit of this part and there. Last part. Grab blending tool. Blend some sharpest lines. All is done. I like it. I'll merge it together. Now we can go to our shade, grab blending tool. If you like, you have an option, you can blend the edges. You see like this. Because I thought maybe edges are too sharp. I actually like it. Guys, we're done with our third illustration. Now, let's move to next part and in our next illustration, I won't use blending tooling at all. I will just use gouache brush and you'll see what you'll have in the end. 7. Creating 4th Illustration: Layering Technique: Guys, our last illustration. There is one Tara, three leaves here. This is different as you might see and later, I'm going to remove Zara's kitchen layer. I think we are ready to start, but before that, I selected all the layers from our previous painting. I'll group it, rename and write third illustration. Wonderful. Paint here. One layer underneath and I'll grow blue gouache brush, grab pretty bright green color. Let's feel all the leaves with this color. Be careful, because this illustration is underneath our third one. I'll place it on a top. Guys, I'm going to speed up the video in order to save time. Now I'm going to show you some trick. If you wanted to save time, if you see that you have some overlapping, if you went beyond the lines, grab eraser and it's so simple just erase by the controls the size of the eraser, and erase the parts that you don't need or where you made a mistake. For me, eraser help me to save the time, then just like accurately color everything like leaf by leaf. Let's keep painting, they still have two more leaves. You can use the same way. Same as what we did before grab eraser and erase a part that should be erased. Like that. Last leaf I'm going to create one more layer underneath, because later I'm going to shade it a little bit. Done now we need to return to previous layer and paint stamps. Wonderful. Now we need to paint lovely baby plants. I will grab pretty bright green color. I don't know what is the name of that, is it tiny baby leaves, or tiny Monstera baby leaves. Speaking about those tiny lines, we can grab inka brush. Okay, done. Now we can paint our ways. One more layer underneath brown color, boo gouache brush, erase over lipids. Good. Create one more layer above. Let's think about the color, about our background color as well. Let me think maybe some pinkish color or purple. I think pink would be interesting. I don't have the reference picture for the leaves because I took it from my head. It will not be a problem for us because we are going to color it as a typical cube. We need to find where the source of the light comes from and after add some shades. If you don't need to remove the transparency, that's so convenient, you can't imagine. But you can imagine of course. Here a little bit brighter, brighter color from this side. I know it's a little bit too early. But I wanted to show some to separate. White dots. I'll grab white color. Create one more layer above boo gouache brush. Guys why I didn't simply erase it, because later we're going to add some background color and if I simply erase, so we will have the background color also here, like in a vase and I just want to keep it white Beautiful. Now I think we can lower the opacity of our sketch layer. Deal like seven percent. Lock it again. This side, spots [inaudible] Now I like it. Next part we need to add some background color. I'll create one more layer underneath. Remember what we did before? Here. We'll just go and replicate our layer and move it on top and put it here. We can flip it like that. Now I want to change the color of course. I like it. I like this pink color. It looks so lovely, so tasty you might tell, is it right here. I increase the saturation a little bit. That will be our background color. Next step, you see if we have some gaps in color, so I want to blend it. I'll press "Alpha Lock", grab blending brush as a blender, boo gouache blender I use and blend this carefully. Once again, why it's cool to use Alpha Lock because I don't go beyond the lines. Turn off, Alpha lock turn on, Alpha Lock on, and other two leaves. But guys, as you see here, I just blend the gaps. Doesn't mean that I want to blend the shades no, like I told you, when we use the colors, we won't blend it. I just blend some gaps when I add it to color and that's it. Now, in the future if you want to use blend at the top, if you want to add shades, we will do it by layering, but not by blending. Now let's forget about blending tool. We don't need it for now. We don't need it at all. At our today's, the last illustration. Grab boo gouache brush, I think we are ready to start adding some shades. Well, let's start with a plant. Once again, we have some reference. I'll create one more layer and I'll clip it. Grab darker color and once again, we have some shade from the leaves. Now grab a lighter color and we need to separate our stems from the jar. Also, remember where we have two objects, we have to shade, greenish color. Same here. I can now from you have shade, onset plant create one more layer clipping mask because it's next to another one and for this one, I'll change the plan, to layer mode to multiply because I wanted to fit there as the leaves. Like speaking about the colors, it's fine, don't worry, I will lower the opacity later. We have to shade here. Let's return. Let's create one more layer. Move it to Multiply blended layer mode and as you see, I started adding shades to another two leaves. I told you that we will have shade from both leaves, even though they're lighter. Why we need to do that on a new layer? Because we can control the opacity and we can control the intensity of a color. Now it's time to control the intensity. You see it might be not set scary. The intensity might not be so dark. That's what we need. Like it. Now let's look at the leaves here. For us, it would be easier just to merge together everything. Now I want to go to baby plants also clip it, move to multiply. Grab brighter color. I wanted to show the shades here as well. Under the leaves here we'll have some shadows. We have two plants next one to each other. Here we can lower the opacity just a tiny bit, you see I. Now let's create one more layer in between. Also, move it to multiply. Now let's look at our leaves. Now lower the opacity. The next step and the last one we have to multiply and we need to grab a darker color. In areas such as the darkest ones, you can show the shade, but of course, don't do it everywhere. Now lower the opacity like we did before, but just a little bit, do same as our leaf. [inaudible] merge it together. Now same as leaves clip and mask, multiply. Again, remember we don't use blending tool. The light source comes from the left side, it means that the right side will be very very in shadow. Now it's time to move to another leaf, clipping mask, multiply. Now next step we can lower the opacity a little bit, we can put here. Okay next step we need to add a little bit off veins to the flower. Merge together, merge together. Be careful these brush is pressure sensitive, don't press too hard. It looks very cool. I think we don't need our sketch layer anymore, we can turn it off. It looks great, but we also need to add more shades and we're going to do it later. Now let's return to our layers. I'll create one more layer to our dots, press clip and mask, grab Boo gouache brush, pretty bright color. I think I would like to grab gray color and then you have to show some shades for dots. Because we can't have just solid white color, of course we will have some shades. Wonderful, now let's merge it together. Let's create one more layer above our vase. Press clip and mask and move to multiply. Here, don't worry, I will lower the opacity later. The area around dots will be a little bit darker. Now shade here, increase the size, this part will be darker. Now we can lower the opacity, like this and keep adding more shades and highlights. Create one more layer, clip it, move to pretty bright color, grab Boo gouache brush, lower the opacity like this. Grab even darker color, move to multiply, place it on top because I want it to be pretty pretty dark. If you want, of course, you can blend it, it would be even more realistic but for me I like it. Like I told you, we have shades from the objects. If you want you can also add some variations, add some reddish color, it's up to you. You can erase if you don't like it. For me it looks interesting, but I want to add probably purplish color, eraser. It looks very interesting. As I promised to you, I want to add some shades and some highlights to our, so I can merge it together. I forgot to add some shades to our soil, I'll clip it, multiply, eraser and we have some. Like it. Merge it together, same base our leaves. Create one more layer, clip it, grab almost white color and after that you can lower the opacity and erase the parts that you don't like. The same with another leaf clip it, Boo gouache brush. Remember the reflection is from the left side, the light source you will have it here. Eraser and lower the opacity. Also, I want to add more shade a little bit, same layer. Yes, they also have color variations. We've done with our last illustration. Now we don't need our reference picture. As you see, they created four beautiful illustrations in gouache style. This is actually opposite style to tie like lost but this is just my preference. The other option you might combine your gouache illustration to look altogether with ink. That also looks amazing. Or you can just blend everything like what we had here. The last option where you don't blend at all, you just use gouache brush, actually one gouache brush and it also looks amazing. I hope you enjoyed our today's tutorial and you learned something new about gouache painting in procreate. In our next class, I'll show you how to paint palm tree in gouache and watercolor style. I'm actually going to show you how to draw them, I hope you will like that. Guys if you have any questions, suggestions, recommendations you might leave them in discussion section. Let's see each other in the new class. Bye bye. This is the end of our class, and now you know how to paint lovely florals in gouache style in different pots. I hope you will learn something new from my class and you have lots of inspiration. I wish you luck with your artworks. Let's see each other in the new class. Bye bye.
