1. Introduction To Course Creation For Beginners: Hi and welcome to course creation class for beginners. My name is Thea. I'm an online creator and a teacher here on Skillshare. In this course, you're going to learn how to create your first Skillshare course without being on camera. Thanks to this educational platform, many people see the great value and publishing an online course, like the ability to work from home and creating an income stream online without having to treat hours for profit and the ability to share knowledge with people without having to physically be there. The problem is most beginners face are related to the doubts and fears of creating an online course and the intimidating your requirement of being on camera, like I have 0 online following. So how do I get students to watch my course? Or I'm really uncomfortable with being on camera. So maybe creating an online course is not for me with these doubts, it can feel pointless to even try and create a course. I had the same ducts myself when I first got started. My first online course was about helping others to create LoadContent books and publish them on Amazon, KTB, I was worried by the competition and the high number of course is already available. Yet I was certain I had a lot of knowledge and value to share, but the idea of being on camera the whole time was very new and intimidating. Now, after creating over eight online courses, I learned that students only care about high-quality, valuable content. That is to the point and it's worth their time. Students need to feel well-grounded and comfortable with learning from you and able to follow along the class easily, more so than they care about anything else. So I decided to create my first course without being on camera and set myself a challenge to finish it in a few days. To my surprise, my course got a hundreds of students as well, if dozens of excellent reviews in a couple of months. Oh, that was 0 following and no previous experience in course creation. I have been creating online courses since then. I've made a lot of mistakes along the way and I've learned from them in this course, I will share with you what has been working best for me and give you a step-by-step plan that covers everything you need to create your first online course without being on camera and using free tools. Creating an online course is a onetime investment of your time and energy that will reward you for as long as the Internet. And when you share a course inside Skillshare, you allow millions of students to access it at anytime and learned from you. So if you have valuable knowledge and experience in a certain field, this class will teach you everything you need to publish a successful course using a proven strategy as well as free tool. So you do not have to worry about any upfront investments. You don't have to have any previous experience in either course creation or video creation. All you need is basic computer skills and you will be able to follow along each step until your course is published. I've also included multiple bonus videos that will help you maximize your potential and make the best out of your journey with online teaching. Thank you for stopping by and I look forward to seeing you inside the course. 2. Breaking Through Some Of The Common Myths About Creating Online Courses: Hi, and thank you for joining the class. Let's start by breaking through some of the common myths that you might have heard about creating an online course. A lot of people are intimidated to get started on the first course because they assume it will take long weeks or even months of work that might end up being unprofitable. It is true that if you move straight to the course creation without spending enough time on upfront preparations, you might not have a huge success in it. Those who do the necessary preparations from upfront research to competition reviews, as I will be teaching you inside this course, will face a far larger success than those who select a random topic and then move straight to the course creation process. Another myth that is quite common is the expenses of creating an online course. Like Do I need a fancy camera and expensive, Mike, What about the editing tools? Aren't they expensive as well? Doesn't it costs a lot of money to produce high-quality courses. I didn't believe this myth myself when I get started and I decided to create my first course without spending any money at all. And inside this class, I will show you exactly how to create a course using free and very cheap tools. The final myth I want to talk about is the main topic of this course. The necessity of being on camera, experienced YouTubers and videographers might make it look simple and easy to be recorded in front of a camera. But the truth is that not everyone is comfortable with it, and it can be quite time consuming for beginners to record and edit something they're happy with. So I decided to go with a different, much simpler format, which is a slide-show video course where I'm talking over slides of texts and images just like the one you're watching right now, together with screen capture videos where I demonstrate the material and the skill empty chain. Not only that, it made it possible for me to create a course and a few days. But also the fact that I focused all my energy and efforts on the information and the value and providing to my students through my course. Instead of having to worry about my looks and preparing a set where I will be filming myself. The truth is that no one really cares about watching a teacher as much as they care about the information they're gaining from watching a course. Besides that, the millionaire marketer, Ryan Deist, said that text slides are far more educational because seeing faces can be distracting when students hear and read at the same time, their understanding of the material improved significantly. With slideshow videos, people spend less time judging what you look like and more time focusing on learning from you. That being said, this format might not work for all niches depends on the topic. For example, you might be creating a course that teaches people about arts and crafts. With that, you need to record yourself working. But it can also be much easier for you to have the camera focused on your hands and the arts and crafts, instead of showing a full set of view standing next to your work. In any case, it is up to you to decide what works best for you. The key is how you present your content in an educational, relatable and easy to understand way that helps your students get the most out of it. 3. Class Project - Course Creation Blueprint: One of the best qualities of Skillshare classes is offering students class projects. It offers them the ability to practice what they're learning and share their work with teachers and other students to get feedback and join the Skillshare community. For this course, I prepared for you a class project chief named course creation blueprint, and it is attached and the bottom of this course under projects and resources section, I recommend downloading the PDF sheet now and working on each project as you follow along the class, as I will be showing you inside the different exercise videos. Let's talk a little bit about how this class project will help you. Most beginners worry a lot about the production of the course. So the scripting and the filming, while it's highly important to produce a well-made course, the most important steps are actually the preparations, and especially for beginners, the longer you spend on establishing a structure for your course and a successful course outline, the easier it will be for you to begin producing your course. Therefore, the PDF file that I prepared for you with different exercises inside will help you follow along the class while taking some action and getting started on your course right away. 4. How To Select A Topic For Your Online Course: In this video, we will dive into selecting your class topic. I encourage everyone to give this part a lot of attention, regardless of whether you have a clear idea of what your topic is or you're not sure yet and still evaluating your options. First because Skillshare has a list of restricted topics that I will show you how to find and make sure that your topic is allowed to be taught inside this platform. And also because it helps you be ultra specific on two things. Who is your course made for and what is the big outcome that your course will teach when you know exactly who your course is made for and you know their knowledge level, and you understand their needs and the information they require, you produce a course that serves them a higher value rather than a course that isn't tailored to their needs and expectations. Let's say as an example that you are creating a photography course for beginners, it would not make sense for you to create a course using photography concepts and advanced techniques that only professional photographers are familiar with. Instead, you should focus on making a simple course that beginners can learn from without facing any information overload or confusion. The same thing applies if you are teaching really advanced photography techniques for existing photographers, I would not want to include basic information they are already familiar with because they will most likely leave the course without finishing it. Now let's move on to the big outcome of your course when you focus on the one big outcome that your students will gain from watching your course. It will help you build a framework for yourself and allow you to stick to the right and specific information that you want to give your students and helps you avoid unnecessary content that might not be relevant or cohesive with the big outcome and the rest of your course, as mentioned before, creating an online course is a huge upfront investment of your time without any revenue made while the production is ongoing, but with a large potential of success once it's published. The choice of the topic covered in a course even more important, because betting on the wrong topic might mean days of unprofitable work. And that is something that needs to be avoided at all costs, especially in the beginning of your online teaching career, selecting a course topic requires some upfront research, so I dedicate it the next video to demonstrate how our course topic research is best done. Regardless of your niche, you will be able to conduct the same research and make sure that your course has high demand and potential for success. 5. Topic Research Demonstrated: Alright, in this tutorial video, I will show you how you can research the topic that you have in mind for the course that you will be creating on Skillshare. Lets start by going to the homepage. You can visit it by going to skillshare.com slash home. Then what you need to do is first visits the teacher help center, so you can scroll to the bottom. And then here under teaching you will be able to find it and click on it. As you can see, there are so many different topics for teachers. These are rules and policies. Therefore, I highly recommend that you do spend some time on reading them and be fully aware of what every teacher is supposed to be aware of and follow when they are creating courses. Platform for right now we're focusing on class topics. What I want to show you is the list of ten restricted topics that you're not allowed to teach on this platform. So what do is go here under teaching policies, and it is the second one. So I'm going to click on it. And as you can see here, these are the topics that you cannot create a course around, starting with passive income courses. So you cannot teach people how to make money fast and prompts them financial freedom or financial outcomes. And then we have dating Romans are relationships. There is teaching on other educational platforms, meaning you cannot teach people how to create a course on Udemy, for example. Then we have teaching students how to resale existing products or services as something related to drop shipping. And then there's anything related to medical content. So you cannot teach people things about dieting and weight-loss and so on. There's mathematics, physics and science, chemistry. And then there is anything related to religion, spirituality or politics. And then there is fitness and exercise. There's pet care, and then finally, beauty. So if your course does not belong to these, then you are good to go. However, if you are confused and you're not sure if your topic is actually relevant to one of these. I really recommend that you do get in touch with Skillshare. You can write to this email, the people who respond, actually from my own experience, they respond really fast and their answers are very useful. And of course you can rely on their answers. So just ask them, Is this topic alone and they will let you know it is allowed or not. Okay, so now with this, we are aware of these topics. Let's go back to Skillshare. To research a topic inside Skillshare, we're going to start by searching the niche. I have prepared photography for beginners as an example to show you how you can research your own topic. So the first thing to do is click here on the search bar and then type the keywords that are related to your own niche or topic. So in my example, I will have to type photography. For beginners. When you are searching your own topic, you need to look for two things. The first one is the demand and the second is the competition. To know the demand of a certain niche or topic, you need to look at the numbers of students that are watching the courses that you are seeing. As a result. The second thing is the competition. So the number of classes that are taught under these niche. So let's go first to the demand. As you can see here, there are thousands of students, dozens and hundreds. So this can easily tell that there is high-demand. The photography for beginners topic is actually hot on Skillshare. There are many people who are searching for it and watching the courses, which is a good sign. But as you can see here, that there are so many courses created by other people. So meaning that if you create your own course, there's gonna be a little bit of difficulty and ranking it's higher in the search. So what you can do here is start thinking of the full title of your class. So what you can do is think of keywords that can fall under photography for beginners. So what we can do is add, for example, travel, travel photography for beginners. So we can see that there's 12345678. That's it. So there's eight courses on Skillshare teaching, travel, photography. So in this case, it is a higher chance for you to have more success with your course. If you create a travel photography for beginners course instead of just traveled for our photography for beginners. And it's also really important to know if there's many students watch it. So what you can see, you're 18 thousand, That's a really high number, seven hundred, seventeen hundred. So this also indicates that the topic is hot and successful as well. Let's look for another example. Let's say that we want to search for something related to web design, or for example, WordPress, maybe WordPress. So we want to look for the best WordPress themes. For example. This is not related at a one to search for things related to developing a theme, but educating on themes. So this one is actually really good, like the top ten best free WordPress themes in 2017. It is an old one. We are right now in 2022. So there's no courses teaching about the best WordPress themes in 2022, which means that if you already know WordPress themes that are really good, you did your own research. You are familiar with WordPress so you can teach students about the WordPress themes and this year. And that means that the competition is very low because as you can see here, there's no other courses beside this one. Just to be sure we can add the word best ranked number one. And then the rest is just showing how to develop a theme which is a different niche. So if somebody is lucky enough to create a course about the best WordPress themes in 2022. And they will have their course displayed first, and it will be the only course available on this platform. And the time of me recording this tutorial for you. So again, this is how your research, I hope that you're able to understand the dynamics behind it. So type your own niche keywords here, instead of the keywords that I am adding. Look at the student numbers. If they are low, then you might want to consider something else. And if the competition is very high, then you just need to start thinking about how to change the name of your course. This also helps you with the name that you want to give your course. So as you can see, the names of the courses are a little bit long. So you can start thinking of the title. So the more keywords you add, the more full title you will have for your own course. 6. Exercises #1 & #2 - Course Creation Blueprint: So now that we're done with the course topic, and I have showed you how to research the topic that you're interested in and make sure that the niche has high demand side Skillshare, you're ready to move on to the first exercise. If you go to the course creation blueprint and then you click on the first page right here, you will see that there is exercise number one that says select your course topic. Start by answering all the questions under this exercise, like who is the course made for? So you need to think about your ideal student group and write the description of them. And then you can move on to the second one which is deciding their level. So are they beginners, intermediate, advanced, or all levels? And then talk about the one big outcome that the course will teach. And then make sure that the topic has high demand. And then talk a little bit about the competition inside Skillshare. Once you're done, you can move immediately to the second exercise, which is write down three ideas for your course title. At this point, it's a good idea to start thinking of the title of your course. What do you want to name your course? And of course, the name is supposed to be very related to the topic. So that's why I want you to think of three ideas because by the end you can combine the best of them and then you will have a great title for your course. Also when you are working on this exercise, please remember what has already been mentioned and the topic research because when we have used the example of photography for beginners and the competition seemed really high. So it made more sense to add a keyword like travelled photography for beginners because there were less courses graded with that title. So think of strong keywords that you can add to your course title to help you reduce the competition and rank of course higher and Skillshare search. 7. How To Create A Successful Course Outline For Your Online Course: It's time to get started on one of the most essential steps of creating an online course, which is the course outline. Creating a course outline will be your framework to brainstorm, plan, and organize the material you'll be teaching inside your code. The goal of creating a course outline is to get the content in front of your students and the best organized way possible and make sure that information you're providing to them is presented with a definitive structure that makes sense. What's I will share with you here is what I believe is the best way to outline your course regardless of the niche, I want to mention that I made a few mistakes when getting started. And I have been notified by the Skillshare quality control team about them. And with that, I came up with a proven outline that I use for all my courses today regardless of the topic. And you're welcome to copy the same outline and use it for your own course as well. First and most important is your introduction video. The introduction video on Skillshare is highly important. It's the first thing that's your students watch and decide whether they want to continue watching the course or skip it. Therefore, I dedicated one of the following videos inside this course to help you create the introduction video that gets students to watch your course until it will show you everything your introduction video should include to qualify for Skillshare approval. After the introduction video comes the class project. Keep in mind that all Skillshare courses are ideally project-based. So a good place to start is coming up with a fun and engaging project to incorporate into your class content. It should allow the students to practice the skill you're teaching. We will also take a deep dive into creating a class project later inside this course. After that comes your main content. This is your own space to organize depending on the different pieces of material and information you have to provide from beginner material to advanced. It's also up to you to decide how many videos your main contents will be spread into. Some courses teach one main skill and it can be taught inside one video. While other courses require you to organize your main content inside different videos, Let's bring back the example of the photo editing course. It will make perfect sense to spread the main content into multiple videos. One video to explain and compare different photo editing tools. Another video to introduce the photo editing tool of your choice and the features and reasons. A few choosing it. A third video where you demonstrate photo editing in a tutorial or maybe multiple tutorials if you are showing your students different editing styles, your main content is the core of your course. It's what students are actually learning. So it's your own personal space to create an organized depending on your own input. After that, you can increase the value of your course by adding some of the following common mistakes to avoid video, meaning you can make your students aware of some of the common mistakes that are related to your educated material and how they could avoid them. This gives your students confidence in what they are learning from you and helps them avoid potential setbacks. You can also include a video named tips and recommendations. This is another personal space for you to include your own advice as to your students and help them get the most out of your course. Content here should not be necessary to the course material, but rather an extra valuable inputs that improves the learning. After that comes the bonus video. If you have an extra something to give your students that is related to the course, it can be an optional video on how to use the training in different situations. It can be an e-book for them to download, or a guide, or a new method or anything that comes to mind that you would like to give them and that would be related to your material and make sense for it to be included. The class outline ends with a conclusion video where you encourage your students to take action, ask your students were reviews and encourage them to interact with your class and ask questions inside the discussion section or share projects and get feedback from you. And of course, thinking the students for joining the course is a nice way to end it. Here's the full course outline and you're welcome to take a screenshot of this page and use it for your own course. You don't have to be very precise with it, but use it as a framework that you can adjust depending on your own material. 8. Exercise #3 - Create A Course Outline: So now you're ready to move on to the third exercise and get started on creating your own course outline. So as you can see, there's three questions here, starting with how many videos your main content spread into. So before you decide on the main outline, it's important. The main contents, which is this section right here. So do you want to create one video to demonstrate everything you're teaching? Or do you want to split your main content into multiple videos? As you remember in the example we've mentioned, which is the photo editing software, there's one option which is to demonstrate everything inside one video. Or you can also split your main content into multiple videos, like for example, one video to introduce the photo editing software. The second video to compare the photo editing software is available, and then third and the fourth and so on. So decide on what is the best thing for you and for your own course. And then you can move on to the second question, which is to write down some titles for your main content video or videos. If you decided to go with one video, then you can just write a title for it. And that's supposed to explain what the content inside the video is. But if you wanted to go with multiple videos, then this question will really help you to brainstorm some ideas for the different videos. What contents will you include inside each of them? Then you can move on to the final question, which is creating your course outline. So of course, you're welcome to copy this one right here. But you might have some different ideas. You might not want to include some tips and recommendations or maybe not a bonus, but feel free to use it as an inspiration to help you come up with your own course outline. And it will be really helpful for you at this stage to write down some titles and content ideas for each video you will include into your course outline. 9. Creating An Introduction Video That Sells: It's time to cover everything you need to learn about creating a successful introduction video for your online course. Skillshare has really high standards when it comes to the introduction video of the courses taught inside this platform, they recommend to all teachers that the introduction video should be less than two minutes. That the teacher should be the first lesson top inside the class meeting, you should let students know who you are and learn about your background and experience in the class topic and the skill you're teaching. Your introduction video should stand on its own and clearly explain what the course about and let students know what they are about to learn and what can they expect? What I have mentioned so far are essential skill share guidelines that you can find inside the teacher Help Center. However, I would like to include some more details and useful information that help you create an introduction video that sells your class and get your students excited to watch it. The first one is to tell students what you want to help them achieve by touching on some problems that you know, they have. Like when I asked you here inside my intro video, you want to create a Skillshare course, but you do not want to be on camera. And then I broke down some of the common myths about creating an online course right from the start, You should also mention the course is big outcome. In this course, I will teach you how to create your first skill share course without being on camera and using free tools. The second one is to give your students a course overview. As giving an overview of the course during the intro video is important. It lets students know why you are teaching the way you are and why your course is designed the way it is. The last important point to include inside the introduction video is specifying the idea that group of students of your course, for example, you could say, this course is made for beginner artists interested in learning more about color mix allergy. Or another example could be this course is made for those who are interested in publishing their first LoadContent book on KTB. When you specify who the course is for right from the start, you will attract more students who are interested in learning from you and help those who are looking for something else to save their time and spare yourself better views from them. 10. How To Create A Class Project For Your Students: Final thing to cover before moving to the course creation process is the class project. As mentioned earlier, Skillshare courses are ideally project-based. So in this video, I will help you come up with a fun and engaging project to incorporate your class content with a class project, your students get a clear idea of what should they anticipate from the material you are teaching them and they get to practice the skill you are teaching when you give your students a class project, it should be one that they can easily do if they follow your course. So make sure that your students are well covered and have everything they need to succeed in their project. You can either create a video to explain what the project is, or you could do a PDF file similar to the one I attached for you inside the course. It really depends on your own course and what you are teaching. For now you can start by brainstorming some ideas for the homework you want to give your students. The idea that seems the most engaging and helpful to your students is the one that you should add to the course. The class project should also be tied together with a one big outcome of your course. For example, if you are creating a photo editing course, you could create a project for your students to edit photos and share their work with you for feedback, you could also attach the same photos you are using inside your own tutorial video for them to download and use as well. Another example could be if you are creating an art-based course, you could ask your students to work on their own pieces of art by following the same steps inside your tutorial and share their work with you for feedback. The next video, I will show you some helpful examples of different class projects inside Skillshare to give you a clear idea of what a good class project looks like and also some inspiration for the class project you will be preparing for your own students. 11. Examples Of Fun & Engaging Class Projects Inside Skillshare: Alright, in this video, I am showing you three different examples of fun and engaging class projects already existing on Skillshare. I have done my research and found these three to be really nice to show you as an example for the different ways you can create a class project. Let's start with this first one. This class is created about Adobe Photoshop and the teacher has created a video. I will show you in a second. But before that, I wanted to show you where you can write a written description for your class project. So in any course available on Skillshare, you should be able to find this section here. It's called Projects and Resources. If you click on it, you will see that there's some different content inside each course. The teacher added these pictures. And she also wrote to the, to the students that they're supposed to be using the techniques and tips from the class to create their own repeated pattern using Adobe Photoshop. Of course, feel free to find the course yourself and read more about it. But I also wanted to show you how she explained at the class project in a video. Project for this class is to use the tips and techniques. I'm going to share the clouds and then create your own repeat pattern using Adobe Photoshop. For practice, you can start with what is provided in the resources tab in case you don't have any art book to start with. But please do note that these motifs are provided only for the purpose of creating a project for this class. So as you can see here, she did mention to the students that they are welcome to download this one here and use for the class project. She also did say that it is not for the purpose of education, but also only for the purpose of the class project. And you feel going to use your own motifs. That's even better. You can share as many buttons as you would like to. This is a quick guide on how to share your project for the class. So when you go to the clouds, a little video, you will see these tabs. All you have to do is go to the last step that says Project and Resources, and then click on this green button that says Create Project. Now, I'm relieved that you cannot upload your projects and you aren't using the Skillshare app on a phone or a tablet. So you will have to go to a browser for this purpose. And then you can add the cover image, the project title, and the description for your project. Just make sure to add the cover image so that anyone can easily find the thumbnail of your project in the project gallery. In the next lesson, I will show you how to scan your artwork, make it ready for creating packages. Okay, So the nice thing that she did is she actually showed a quick tutorial for students how to share their own projects by clicking on this button here. So if this is your first time on Skillshare, you have not heard any projects with any teachers or other students. And this is a really good way for you to know how do you actually upload a project and share it with the teacher to get some feedback. Alright, so this is the first example. The second one is for logo design. It's created by this guy. I found it to be a little bit unique, but it's really also fun to see how different teachers have their own personalities. For example, he wrote here that he wants students to pick their top three favorite logos, discuss them, and then decide which one is the best and why and so on. The, he also encouraged people to share it with him on his own account and so on. But this content that is written here is also located in a video. So I'm going to show you the video really quickly. I haven't tried some different things when I'm doing some voice-over and some animation. And little later I'm going to do some screen recording stuff is a little less formal. And of course this is talking head, this kind of stuff. So let me know what you like best and what parts of the class you think are the most. Well put together. I'm trying a bunch of different things just so I can kinda shake off the rest. And almost a year since my last Skillshare class, I had no idea. A baby and all kinds of crazy things. But anyways, let's talk about the class project. What I want you to do is pick your top three favorite logos. Are at least three logos. They don't have to be your top. You have a hard time. I actually struggled with picking my top three anyway. So pick those three logos can tell me why are they versatile or why are they not hairstyle. What I'm hoping is much like in this class where you're gonna find is that by looking deeper into these logos than you ever have before, you gonna be able to learn some things. You're going to see what works and what doesn't. You're going to add that to your toolbox so that you can use it when you're making your logo design. Or if you're one of those entrepreneurs or small business owners, you can hire graph designer and have a little bit better understanding. I'm super interests received. Which lobe is you guys pick your understanding of what our design and seeing if we can all learn from each other. Because again, I haven't deep dive and a ton of logos, you might pick what was I've never even seen before. And hopefully by looking at the class projects, we can all learn from each other. So it's a really nice way to tell the students, share your own logo and tell me why do you like it? And let's all learn from each other. So it sets an engaging way from the teacher to the students to know from them what their opinion is. That's also nice of the teacher to ask students to share the ideas that he has not seen yet. So he's more relatable than a teacher that tell us, I know all designs and old logos and I just want to know if you know them too. I found it to be a little bit inspirational. Of course, it depends if you have the kind of personality that you want to share with your students or you are a little bit more preserved. And like me for example, and you just want to give students a class project that is just focused on the big outcome of your course. Alright, so the final example is actually created by my really good friend. He's a photographer. He's also a nomad who was traveling the world and creating a really nice photography courses for beginners. He's also a professional photographers at videographer, and he is also just joining Skillshare. I really like this class project, even though it is long, it is very precise and it is very detailed. So the student who is really interested in photography for beginners, they can get every step through the course. So the first thing I wanted to show you is the project and resources section. As you can see, it is longer than the rest. There's different exercises is really inspirational for me as well when I was creating this course for you to divide the exercises to make it simple to follow instead of two complicated. Especially when a professional is talking to beginners. All the details that he added. And then there's this video that he created for the students. I will show some of it for you, but you're also very welcome to watch it on your own and then get some more inspiration. Let me explain to you this class. So essentially, the only way to get better at photography, way to learn it is to go out and do it in this class project. That's exactly what you're going to do. I want you to go out and shoots seven different things. You can do it. Now, basically, I'll recommend you wait till later. You can do throughout the course, or you can do it at the end when you've learned everything that this calls this class in sales. First of all, the first two photos that I want you to shoot is based around shelves people. So the easy way to do it is to put your camera into sharp clarity and then play around with the shutter speed. I want to try and shoot with a lotions p. It can be 1 second, it can be one over 20, but don't go higher. I'm putting in shutter priority. We'll just make sure that the current takes care of all those settings. And if you don't know what your privacy is when the camera, It's the one that's called. The second job when shoot is about high shutter speed. So as you can see, he is explaining some very important details that most beginners are not aware of. So it's really helpful instead of watching a course that is created for professionals are for intermediate photographers that are already aware of what shutter speed is. For example, my purpose of showing you this is of course, to help you understand when you are giving your students a class project, how do you make it really fun and engaging for them? And also how do you make it easy for them to understand? So if he did not explain what shutter speed is here in his example, maybe some students will not be aware of what is he talking about? How do I find that on my camera? So I really hope that you found this to be inspiring for you when you are creating your own class project. How do you make your students really engaged with the class project that you're going to prepare for them. 12. Exercise #4 - Create A Class Project For Your Students: Alright, so exercise number four, which is giving your students a class project. So by now, you know the importance of creating a fun and engaging class project for your students. You also saw three examples of good and engaging class projects already available on SkillShare. Of course, feel free to do your own research and see whether you find some more inspiration. And then you can get started on these two questions. So the first one is how do you want to present your class project? As you can see, I already checked on texts because it's important to write a text inside Skillshare section for class project. But you can also decide if you want to add a video or a PDF file like this one, photos or something else. Then you can move on to the second one and then you can write down some different ideas. Again here I add three examples because you might not be certain yet about what is the class project is going to be, but it's a good place to start brainstorming some different ones, right? The different ideas that you have and then later evaluate them with the content you will be producing for your course. And then by the intellect, the one that seems the most engaging in, most relevant for your students. 13. Creating The Initial Draft Of Your Video Content: It's time to begin the course production process, starting with the initial draft of your video content, there are two ways for you to prepare the content inside each video you will be adding to your course. There is the scripting and the outlining. Scripting your video content means writing down everything you will say word for word and reading the script while you record your videos. Outlining is a different approach, where you write down some headlines, are bullet points and rely on your ability to teach what you already know without having everything written in front of you, no matter which path you choose, the end results should be well-crafted videos with a clear and easy to understand content. So how do you decide on the best approach for you? Let's evaluate both scripting, planning and talk about pros and cons of each approach to help you select the one that suits you best. Let's start with outlining the ultimate benefit of outlining your course with some short headlines and notes is that it comes up very naturally with outlining. You also move faster to the recording step as all you have to do is to write bullet points and some notes. The issue is that you might stumble a little bit because you do not have everything written in front of you. But if you know what you're teaching well, you will not face a lot of problems. Now, let's move to scripting. When your script, you read word for word. So you're already thought about what you want to say any eroded down before you start recording your videos. This means staying on point and delivering the material to your students with a solid plan and structure. But that could come off dangerous if you're not reading it the right way, as it might sound a little bit robotic. Also with scripting, it takes a while for you to write down your script word for word and edit it and check the grammar before you move on to the recording step. However, scripting speeds up the recording and editing process because you're going to have fewer mistakes. This means there's no faster way than the other as it always ends up balanced out, and especially for beginners. So the longer you spend on scripting, the shorter you will spend on editing. If you end up outlining, you might spend a solid amount of time on editing to let you in on my own experience getting started, I decided to try both approaches to see which one suits me best. Scripting was essential for my introduction video, for some of the important material I'm teaching to make sure I stayed on point and did not miss mentioning any essential details. I also used outlining before recording any of my tutorials and wrote down some notes about the important information I should mention during the video, after crafting a handful of courses, I found my happy medium. And today I use both approaches depends on the type of course and working on when you're selecting your own approach, try to look inwards and think whether you are a better writer or a better speaker. If you are a better writer than maybe scripting your course could be your best options to deliver a great course. However, tried to practice what you're typing and say it out loud. As we tend sometimes to write in a different way than we speak. But if you're confident in your ability as a speaker, you should consider drafting a rough outline and rely on your own natural flow of words as you record your course videos, the next video, I will show you two different approaches and the same example to help you determine the best one to move forward with. 14. Scripting & Outlining: Alright, so to show you how you can script and outline your course videos, I have prepared an example for you. So I've taken the example from earlier, which is the photo editing course for beginners prepared by a photographer. And I created an introduction video for it. So these two introduction videos are the same, so they have the same content. But one of them is with scripting approach and the other one is with the outlining approach. And by the way, I'm using Trello. So what you see here is the software I use to create the contents from my own courses. I prefer it more than Google Docs or Microsoft Word because you can organize your content into different cards and lists. It's also for free. So if you are getting started and you're looking for a software that is good for course creation. I highly recommend this one. Alright, so let's go back to the examples and let's get started with the scripting. So as you can see here, this is a full texts that if I am to be the photographer who was creating a course to teach people how to edit pictures. I will be reading this word for word. So you take your time and you create the content as you imagined that you will be reading it out loud and you just type all the words. You also check the grammars and you just make sure that it sounds well when you read it out loud. So of course this is just an example, but just to show you what I've added, you start by creating the students. You tell who you are, about your background, what they will learn inside the course, and who is it designed for. And then you just give a little bit about course overview and then the tools you will be using. And then just give the students a little bit of expectations of the course. And then just a thank you for stopping by and looking forward to seeing you inside the course. So in case you want to go with scripting, then you should imagine creating a tech similar to this one. You can start with the first draft and then improve it as you go. And as we said before, you really need to imagine yourself saying these words. So as you type it down, try to say it out loud. Does it sound good? Does it sound like you're able to say it in a way that is not robotic. Because imagine how difficult it will be for the students too. The information from you, if you're just simply reading this word for word without giving it any natural sense. So even though you are recording this, so you write it down and then you open your recording software and then you just read it out loud. And then you'll record your voice and then you add it to your videos, as I will be teaching you in the following steps. Just makes sure to be reading like you are talking to another person that will really help your students to get the information from you. And it will also be easier for you as the teacher to get an understanding of the flow of what you're teaching right now. Alright, so if you are scripting, then this is the style. And let's move on to the next one. The outlining is much shorter. So I created a checklist instead of a text here. So let's say that you decide go with outlining. So you do not want to read a text. You just simply want to remember, what do you want to say inside your introduction video. So you start with self-introduction. So you remember right now because you read this note that you should go for self-introduction. You say who you are, your background. It might be a little bit too long, but you might want to edit later, might be too short, so you might want to redo it again. And that's really the risk of outlining. But with a little bit of practice, it might come very natural and you might also start timing how long you're spending. So you can look at the clock right here and you can see that. Alright, so I have been talking for a minute. It's time to move on to the next step. It comes out very naturally because you're not reading word for word, but just also make sure that you stick to it. And make sure that this is a course that people are watching. It's not like you're actually sitting next to somebody and talk to them. So it's okay for you to go the extra minute. You have to grab your students attention all the time. Alright, so when you are done talking about yourself and who you are as a teacher, you can talk about who the course is made for. The points that were covered here. You're not reading them out loud, but you just have some headlines. So you outline the course or the course video. And then he just remember these things that you want to say. Those maybe who are super professional might not use any of these things, the camera and start talking. But from my own experience, it might take you creating dozens of courses, are creating a lot of videos before you're able to just go ahead and remember everything you want to save word for word. Alright, so once you're done talking about yourself, you just move on to the next step and the next step. So basically all the content that you saw inside scripting, these are the headlines for it. And then once you're done, you just say, thank you for watching, looking forward to seeing you inside the class and they just turn off your recorder. So this is how you script and outline. I do recommend that you give both a chance to see which one works best for you. If you're a little bit nervous about the way that you want to talk to your students, then scripting could be the best option. However, if you do have the confidence in your ability to do speak naturally, and even though you might talk a little bit longer, you could edit it later in the editing process, remove the points that you would not want to mention. It might be a little bit risky if there is no end points between the sentences, but it's a learning curve for you. You can start maybe in the beginning and spent two hours wasting them on getting to know what seems to work best. But then afterwards everything else will become very easy. Alright, so this is it for the scripting and outlining. And let's move on to the next video. 15. Exercise #5 Create The Initial Draft Of Your Video Content: Now that you are familiar with scripting and outlining, you can move on to exercise number five and get started on selecting the approach you will be using to create your video content. So as you can see here, I created a checklist for you for all the videos. So you can decide which video will be scripted and which video will be outlined. As an example, let's say that you will want to script your first video, so you can check here and you can write the video title. As for the second up to the last video, you can decide on which one will it and which one will be outlined depending on your preferred approach, make sure you also follow the guide mentioned in the previous videos. And think whether you are a better writer or a better speaker. If you think it will be much better for you to outline the entire course and then move straight to recording. Then feel free to do that. Otherwise, if you want to select an approach for each video on its own, then you can do that as well. So once you're done, you can get started on creating the initial draft of your video content using the selected approach. And I also wrote here a tip for you to use Trello, which is the same software I use whenever I'm scripting or outlining my own videos. Now once you're done with this, you can move on to the checklists that I created for you. So as you can see here, there's a checklist for scripting. Let's say as an example that you decided to use the scripting approach for some of your videos or all of them, then you can use this checklist to make sure that you are on track. I've also included some tips here for you that I highly recommend that you read before you get started on scripting. And then there's the outlining here. So the checklist for outlining is very short, as you can see, all you have to do is write the bullet points and then get started on recording and then check your work. I've also included some tips for you for the outlining approach that I find to be very useful whenever I'm outlining any of my videos. 16. How To Create Slideshow Videos: Hi there. In this tutorial, I will share with you how you can create slideshow videos using Free Design Tools. I'll be using this example of introduction video so I can take the script and create my own slideshow. As for the software, I'll be using Canva. If you've never heard of Canva before, it is a free design software that you can use to create multiple designs. I rely on it to create my own slideshow videos. I am using right now, Canva pro. So I pay to get extra features, but you will be able to follow the same step if you use Canva for free. Alright, so let's get started on creating the slideshow. The first thing you need to do here on Create a design. And then you want to go for the presentation. So it's supposed to be 16 by nine. So this is the size of the video you're supposed to upload on Skillshare. And as you can see here, there are so many different templates that you can select from. What we want to do is go for a background that is very simple and it's not very distracting because the students are supposed to be reading while listening to you, recording your voice during the video. I really like to use the backgrounds here. I use one of these when I'm recording my own videos. You can also look at some of the photos here if you'd like some of them that you want to add to your own slides. So for example, we can look at backgrounds. Then you can use some of these in here. Let's look at the backgrounds right here. And then maybe use one of these here. So maybe this grey or white, or maybe this yellow. There's so many options, so it's really up to you. What is your preference and what do you want your course to look like? I'm going to stick to the gray and white one. Alright, so let's add some texts and you can do that by clicking here and then adding the headline. So right now you can start by copy-pasting the script and adding some small texts and each slide. I'm going to make it a little bit bigger. And then just make sure that it is in the middle. You can see these purple lines. That means that the text is in the middle of the slide. If you want to change the font, you can select between the multiple fonts available. You cannot go for one of these because they have the protein, but there's thousands of free ones that you can select from. Maybe this one right here. Alright, so right now you can duplicate the page. So you have another slide and you can base the texts until you're done with the entire script. The other thing I wanted to show you is that if you want to use some photos, so let's say that you want to add your own picture right next to this text that show who you are. What you can do is click here on uploads and then click on upload media. And if you have the picture available on your computer, then you can just add it to Canva and you will be able to type it here. But right now I do not have an image of cell will just go for one of the photos. I'll go for a photographer. And then just take this one right here. This is just to show you an example of what you can do inside camphor. Alright, so the third slide we're going to create, maybe let's just add some of the texts. Try not to add very long texts because it will be difficult for these students to read all of them at the same time. So maybe it's enough with three or four lines max. I'll just add this one as a final one just to make sure that this tutorial will not be too long for you. Alright, so now we have the slides, of course, in your case, you're supposed to continue until the entire script is ready. If you decided to create an outline instead of a script, and also make sure that you write down all the information that you want to include in your introduction video. Alright, so now that we have some slides, I'm going to show you how you can save them. And the first thing to do is click here on Share and then click on Download. And then I recommend going for PNG because it is the highest quality. You're also welcome to increase the size for the quality as well. And then select all the slides that you want to download and then click here on Download. Alright, so now we have them ready and it's time to record what we wrote inside the slides. I'm gonna go for my voice memos. If you use a Mac, then you have it and you're able to use it as well. If you don't have it, then you can easily download it or a similar one and then record your video. You must have the script ready. Then you can also open the memo. Let's say that this is an actual script that's you have frozen earlier. So what you can do is just click here and then you can start recording the video. Just to show you an example, I'm actually going to record this. Hi and welcome to the photo editing course for beginners. My name is Thea. I'm a professional photographer and videographer. I've been practicing photography for the past two years and I'm passionate about sharing my journey through. Around the world through my lens. Okay, So now when you're done recording all the scripts, you can stop if you made a mistake like when I did, when I was trying to read this, you can always just click on edit. And then you can change the script. You can replace it with something else until you're happy with how it sounds. So just to listen to this. Hi and welcome to the photo editing course for beginners. My name is Sia, professional photographer and videographer. I've been practicing photography for the past two years and I'm passionate about sharing my journey through in case I was actually recording a video and I made a mistake here, then I can just click here on Edit and just go back a little bit. And then just say Replace. And say, I'm passionate about sharing my journey through. I made that mistake again. So I'm just going to go back. I'm passionate about sharing my journey around the world through my lens. Okay, So now I'm done. And once it's just done replacing the rest, I'm just gonna go click on Done. So now we have the voice record ready. So all you have to do is just put these slides together with the voice that you have recorded. If you have a Mac, then you can also use iMovie. It's also for free and it's really easy to use. I will show you right now how you can add the voice memo and the course slides that we have created. And by the way, I will just keep this mistake that I made twice here when I'm recording just to show you that it might take a few tries for you to be able to record something that you're happy with. Maybe the first time that you recorded it, it did not sound good to you. Maybe you sounded a little bit too nervous or robotic, but it takes some practice and you should really be patient when you're trying to record yourself and read from the script in case you have decided to go for outlining than it might be a little bit easier for you to just sound more natural, but it might be a little bit difficult. We spoke earlier for you to end up editing something. So it might take a little bit longer to edit something that you're happy with. Alright, so let's go back to iMovie. And the first thing is to go to finder. We have downloaded the slides, so I will just take them and add them to iMovie. And then I will go to the voice memo and just add it's right here as well. I think I need to edit the first to my computer. And then I will just add it to iMovie as well. Okay, so drag the slides first and then the voice memo. So of course your video is supposed to be a little bit longer than this one, but just for the sake of showing you a quick tutorial, this video will be short. I think I'm just gonna make this a little bit longer now. Hi and welcome to the photo editing course for beginners. So I'm going to cut this one from the beginning. You can see the places where you are quiet right here, for example, you should cut all this, but then you can just slide it to the beginning here. In course for beginners. So I'm going to cut this one again and then slide this one right here. And move this one here. I have the first slide, right? Welcome to the photo editing course for beginners. My name is Sia, professional photographer and videographer. So just cut this one as well. I'm passionate about sharing my journey around the world through my lens. This slide is supposed to be here, so I'm just going to replace it. I'm passionate about sharing my journey around the world through my legs. I'm just going to cut this one here. Okay, So now I'm done. I think I did not report this last video. So I'll just delete it. Alright, so now we have a full video. I'm just going to show you these ten seconds. Hi and welcome to the photo editing course for beginners. My name is Sia. I'm a professional photographer and videographer. I'm passionate about sharing my journey around the world through my link. Once you're happy with the video and it sounds good to you. You might want to do maybe some extra changes like selecting all these and then you can click here, reduce the background noise to a 100%. Maybe just boost the sound a little bit. Hi and welcome to the photo editing course for beginners. My name is Sia, I'm a professional photographer. So you can see it sounds a little bit better now and in case there's background noise, it happens a lot to me that my dog passes by when I'm recording so you can hear some of that background noise. Then this really helps you with reducing that. Then you can decide if you want to boost the sound with your sound or not. So right now let's say that we have a full video ready. This is an introduction video, and hopefully yours will be of course, much longer. Once you're done, you can just click here and then you can just export the file. Go for high-quality or maybe best. And then better quality here. And then next, I'm just going to make this intro preview. And once the circle is done, it will be saved on my desk. Attribute, this one right here. Hi and welcome to the photo editing course for beginners. My name is Sia. I'm a professional photographer and videographer. I'm passionate about sharing my journey around the world through my link. So as you can see here, that there is a typo mistake is supposed to be through now though. So what I actually use if I want to make sure that my grammars are correct, sometimes you're working a little bit too fast and you might not notice these things. But it's really important to be a little bit professional at the end, you are a teacher. So it's really good for your students to see the professionalism in your course. So what I actually rely on at this time is this extension right here. It's called Grammarly and it's also for free. So as you can see, it is showing me that I'm supposed to fix it to through before you actually share and save all your slides, then it's really good idea just to click on each texts and make sure that it is fully green so there's no red lines underneath that is in case you have this. If you're also very confident about your own ability to make sure that your grammar is correct and your spelling is correct. Then just go through these slides and make sure that there's no mistakes like this one right here. Alright, so this is how you create slideshow videos. I know it takes a little bit of time because you will have to copy paste all the texts from the place that you have written it down. And then just paste it here and then afterwards, just make sure it looks visually appealing. But as you can see, it's just a process that could take some time. And by the end of it, you will have a really good video ready for your course. 17. How To Create Tutorial Videos : Alright, so now I will share with you how to create tutorial videos and add them to your course. This video you're watching right now, is it stereo video, just like the previous one where I share with you how to create those slides and then create a slide-show video from them. Because sometimes it makes more sense to share your screen with your students and then demonstrate the skill you're teaching. Because sometimes the slideshow will not get the job done. So if you want to create tutorials, there's different ways. The way I use it is to use Chrome Extensions. It's this one right here, and it's called Vimeo. It's the one I'm using right now to record this video for you. There's another one here called Loom. They're both very identical and they are free. And the quality of the videos that they record is high compared to the free ones available as well. So if you want to use these, all, you have to do a search for them. So when you go to the Google Chrome, if you don't have it available on your Google Chrome, then there's a button here that says Add to Chrome. Afterwards it will be available here. So you can click on it and then you can start recording. Now the example with the loom instead. So if you just click on Loom, they're both the same so you don't have to worry about the differences. You can decide if you want the screen only or screen or camera. So your face will be visible right here from your front camera. If you want, you can just have the camera only. In my case, I want to go for the screen only. Then afterwards you can decide on the microphone. So I have my Blue Snowball microphone plugged into my computer so I'll be using it. If you don't have one, then you might only see the option of your built-in microphone. So after you're done selecting, you can just click here and then you can start recording so you can demonstrate the skill. In my case, I showed you how you can create those slides. And then I also showed you some different examples on how do you do the iMovie tutorials. After you're done, you can just simply click back the extension and then your video will be saved. So now I actually want to show you where my videos are because I am using Vimeo to record these videos. When you download Vimeo and edit to your crummy, create an account. So all the videos that you record will be there. This is my Vimeo account and all these videos I have been recording for you for this course. So once you're done and you record your video, you will find them right here listed. So what you need to do is just click here and then go to Download and then your video will be saved on your computer so you can add it to the list of videos you're uploading to your course and then publish it on Skillshare. Now you might not be using Chrome, you also might be using Windows. So I've done a little bit of research to know some of the available softwares. I have not used this myself, but I find that they have some good reviews. This one right here, so you can try it for free. There's one for Windows and then there's one for Mac. So depends on the device that you're using. Also this one, I find that having really good reviews, you can also try it. But it says here, there was a free trial. So I assume that after a certain point a you might need to pay for it. However, as I said, I have not used this myself, so I cannot say if they actually work well or not. Alright, so the video that I have just recorded for you is already on my Vimeo account. I want to show you right now how do I edit it on iMovie to remove some of the parts that I do not want to show inside. So the first thing is to download it. And I will go for the original. So I'm going to click on Download. If you have the paid version, then you might have some more sizes. So instead of these sizes, you might have a bigger one. So it is ready. Right now. I will just click here and then go to iMovie. First to my Finder. And then just drag it into my iMovie. I have the video here ready. The beginning of the video is fine. But towards the end, I do not want to include the end of it. So when basically, can you see here towards the end that you see me closing the video? I don't want to include that in the video. So what I can do is just simply click here a little bit after I was done talking and then just simply split and then delete this part. So the video will be done and the correct time instead of having to show when I was done recording it. After that, I can do some changes, like reduced the background as I showed you earlier. I can suppose the sound. Then now the video is good to go. 18. Video Creation Checklist - Course Creation Blueprint: Alright, so now that you know how to create slideshow and tutorial videos, you can get started on creating your own videos. So there's no exercise here, but this is more of a checklist that you can use to stay on track and to know which step you're on. I use this checklist myself whenever I'm creating either slideshows or tutorials. As you can see, the first checklist is for the slideshow. So you can start by creating the text and then the voice recording, uploading them to the editing software. So I'm moving at this example, edit the video at just the sound, and then do a final check and then you can save your video. I've also included some tips here for you. As for the tutorial checklist, instead of creating slides, you need to record the tutorial and then upload it on iMovie and then do the same editing steps and then do a final check and then save the video. I've also included a list of tips for you and added all the recommended tools that you can use for free to record your tutorial videos. 19. How To Publish Your Course On Skillshare: Alright, so we reached the final step which is publishing the course. In this tutorial, I'm going to show you a step-by-step guide on how you can publish your course inside Skillshare. And just so I have some content in my hand, I have prepared this course example. I have five videos right here, and I have some images because I want to show you how you can include some attachments. If you have a PDF or an e-book, or also some images that you want to include in your course. Alright, so let's go back to skill share. And what you want to click on is teach right here. And by the way, it doesn't matter what type of account you created when you signed up for Skillshare. So if you have a student account, you will be able to create a class. Your account automatically becomes a teacher account. After you publish it, you want to create a class by clicking here. And feel free to read some of these information. They have some FAQs and they have some guides that they're important. So maybe the first time that you are epical generic class, then just take a look at them. But what you want to do is click on this green button right here. So start the class. And this is here where you publish your course. So you have the video lessons here on the left and then you have the class details. Underneath. There is some helpful resources in case you want to read some more about Skillshare tips for a course publishing and course creation. Here there are some guidelines that your videos are supposed to be at Edmund slung. That's like the total. So your entire course supposed to be more than ten minutes. And then regarding the introduction video and the video quality, and then limits health promotions to the first and last video lessons. Alright, so I highly recommend that you start with uploading the videos first, especially if they're long videos because it will take them some time to upload. I'm just going to select my videos here. My videos here for this example are short so you can see them uploading FASTA a 100%. But in case you have a half an hour video, it might take up to one hour for them to be fully uploaded inside Skillshare. So while they're uploading, Let's go back to Class Details. So the first thing you want to select is language a few course it's important to select the language because it helps Skillshare promoted to add the correct group of people that use kilter and that certain language. So in my case it is English. And then the class tie them. So as you can see, they're saying that the class title is supposed to be between 3070 characters. By now, you should already have thought about the class title. What is it that you want to name your course width? This is just an example. In my case, I'm just going to write photography for beginners. As you can see, there's like a countdown timer on how many characters I still have left. So 28 in this case, I would maybe want to go for something a little bit longer than this. But this is just an example to show you how you can do it. But make sure that it's not that long. So make sure that you stick for something under 60 characters, for example. Alright, so the class description. So what is your class all about? You can start by saying something like welcome. And then you can name the course here. So just make sure the introduction or this class description is very similar to your introduction video, but in a written way, your class description is supposed to be minimal. 100, I actually sometimes go for 500, depends on how big my course is. It's also a really good idea to take a look at this class description tips. Let's do that together. And then it just says some important details that you need to include to the class or review, like we said, what you will learn. So it's important to mention to the students that what will they get by the end of watching the course? And then what you do take a why is it helpful for your students to take the class? So make sure to read these because they're actually really helpful. But just in general, think about your introduction video when you are writing the cost. And maybe you take a look at the examples that they have. So let's do that together again. Then. If it's not show, I'm gonna go. Then you can see that there is a class description here that seems to be actually really long, but seems to be also very detailed. So if you love working in Adobe Illustrator, but can't seem to retain that hand down quality in your vector graphics. This class is for you. So it seems like a really nice introduction. So if you are the one who having this problem, I'm here to solve this for you inside my course. Inside this class, you will learn they have to some points here. You will also be creating. So this is a little bit about the class project. And then as you can see here, she just moved to the class projects right away and then she had some attachments. She also had some actually self-promotional content here. She's not supposed to right now. I know a few years ago, people were able to add their own Instagram and website and then talk about their services here. With right now, if you do this, I am a 100% sure that the Skillshare team will get in touch with you and tell you that we have put your call on hold. It is not online. Make sure that you self promote only in the first and last video. So nowhere else, you cannot add anything here that is self-promotional. Inside your course besides the first and the last video. Alright, so once you're done reading some information about the class description, and you also get inspired by your own introduction video. Then just move on to the project description. So this is the class project. So here's where you tell your students what they're supposed to be doing as a class project, you let them know that maybe for the class project, Let's say that you want them to edit the photos that you have included in your course. So we can do attach a file. Let's also do a second one. And then you can just say, then just continue this step. So basically this depends on your own class project. What did you want your students to do as homework? It's a good idea to add some points so students will get a clear structure what they're supposed to do. Also make sure that it is a minimum 100% character. So make sure that it's also detailed and make sure that as we said before, that your students have everything to succeed in their class project. Maybe take a look at the video you have created. If you create a class project video, and also take some contents from there and then type it down here. So the purpose of these sections is that in case somebody did not create a video to show what the class project is, then you have a chance to write it down here. It is important to write it down. If you don't, then you will not be able to publish a course. As we said before, that a Skillshare courses are project-based, so they want the students to interact, they want the students to upload their own projects as well. So in case you want them to edit photos, Skillshare wants students to upload their photos after the edit them on your class and then show you the end results. So just make sure that you create something here. It's very clear to your students to understand and it's also very detailed and very helpful for them. And after that, you can move on to the next step. So now we have the categories. Sometimes I feel like these categories are very limited compared to how many different niches and topics that have been taught inside Skillshare. So business creativity, lifestyle and technology. I always go between business and creativity depends on beneath I'm teaching. Sometimes what you're teaching is related to lifestyle more than creative. So you can select the one that suits you best. And of course, if you're teaching something related to technology, then you need to select that one. In my case, I'm gonna go for creativity and then select the subcategory. So here's a little bit more categories, but at the same time, I also think that they're not enough. So hopefully Skillshare in the future, we'll add more subcategories for us to categorize their courses the correct way. So right now, maybe there's Photography, okay, so I'm going to select this one right here. I've never myself published anything related to photography. This is just an example. So it's good to see that this one is popular. So maybe because we selected the category of creative than those subcategories are listed. But let's just say that you went for business. The subcategory is different here depends on the category or the main category that you have selected. So spend some time on making sure that you list your course under the correct category. So people who are looking for it will find an easy way of finding it. So let's go back to create it. And this is the level we've talked before about how your course is made for. This was really early inside this course. So you should by now have a very clear idea. Who is the group of fuel that will most benefit from your course? Beginners, intermediate or advanced, or all levels. Sometimes it makes perfect sense to add something for all levels. Like I had one of my courses to teach people about the Chrome extensions that I use. These ones was just a basic information. So I have selected all levels for it. However, it's nice that you have a level because that will help people filter the search. So if I am to be somebody who's interested in photo editing, I'm a beginner. I can just simply go to Skillshare and then filter my search to find courses for beginners. Alright, so class skills, this one is actually really useful. This is your chance to improve the SEO, SEO search engine optimization inside Skillshare. So here's where you add the keywords that help you rank your course higher. So what you want to do is add keywords here that you think that your students might be typing inside the search bar right here. So you can say photo editing for beginners can add up to seven years. So we can think about some more. Maybe Adobe Lightroom. We can add photo editing, maybe creative. It's nice that they give you some recommendations and also some suggestions here. So maybe iPhone photography, travel photography, as we said, this one was good because there was only eight courses created and travel photography. And then I'm not going to go for advanced because it is for beginners. Photograph editing and beginner photography. So I'm gonna go for this normally when I'm actually publishing a course, I do a lot of homework. So I can actually go to Skillshare and I start typing down some keywords just to see how many courses appear. If there's a few ones that I immediately add the word that I typed because I know that my course has a higher chance of appearing and the search, when somebody is searching for the topic that I have created my course around. Once you're done with these, Let's take a look at our videos to see if there are uploaded. Okay, they're not done. Let's see if we refresh the page. I'm just going to save the draft and click on refresh. Yeah, they will take some time, so I'm going to skip until the end when the videos are being uploaded. Alright, so the videos have been fully uploaded and it's time to give every video a name. It's not okay to keep the videos named the way I did because you have to give each video a title. So let's start with the first one. I'm going to write the introduction. It's okay for you to add one word or to write my own preference is to write a proper title for every video. So in this case, I'm going to write, but some people prefer just to write what the video is about. So in this case, you would write class project. And of course depends on what the video is. You have to continue and naming all the videos that you have uploaded to your course. Now the final thing I want to show you is adding cover images. So if you click on this one right here, you should be able to find some images that you have prepared on your own computer and then you can add them to the course. I'm just going to add this one. Then now the way that your course shows up. So in this case, these courses, when they have these different images, they appear when you select the first one for the first video that you have. So in the upcoming videos, I'm going to show you how you can design a cover for your own course and you can upload it. But for now, I'm just going to show you how you can add a cover for your course. It's also recommended to add covers for all the videos. So in this case, if you have prepared some photos or some design covers that you want to include, then you just do the same thing. And you can just apply the image and it will be visible. It will not be included in the video, but just when the video starts like the very first second or the picture will appear for 1 second. And then after that, the video will run the way that you designed it to do. Alright, so once you're done adding all the covers for your videos and naming them as well. You also take a final look at the contents you have added. Makes sure that there's no grammatical mistakes and that you're happy with the description and the class project as well. Once you do a final check, then only have to do is click here and submitted. So right now your course will be under evaluation. Normally it takes less than 72 hours for the Skillshare equality him to get back to you. They will not get in touch with you in case your course is 100% fine. But just in case you violated some of the policies or we have missed some coins, they will get in touch with you and tell you that the class has been offline until you make the necessary changes. However, just make sure to follow all the guidelines and make sure that you are aware of all the rules sets for teaching inside Skillshare. If you get an email from them telling you that your course has been offline until you make the necessary changes. This counts as a strike. And if you get to the three-strikes within six months period than you're risking that's your account might be closed. So we need to make sure that we avoid this at all costs. So this is it for publishing a class on Skillshare. I think that is very simple, of course maybe the first time you will be confused by filling all the details, especially here in the class project. But just make sure that you do the best work you could write a really good description and a class project. And then once you're done, just click here on submit, as we said. And then you of course, will be available immediately. 20. Course Publishing Checklist - Course Creation Blueprint: Alright, so the last page inside the course creation blueprint is dedicated for course publishing. So as you can see here, there's a long course Publishing Checklist. And this includes all the steps that I just showed you during the course Publishing, Tutorial. Whenever you're ready to publish your course, you can take a look at this checklist and apply all the steps to make sure you did not forget anything. Once you're done, click on submit and your course will be available on Skillshare. Now, I included these two small sections for you. So the notes and improvements for upcoming courses in case you actually want to create future courses after this one and upload them on skill. Share these notes I used to fill up myself every time I publish your course, and I just wrote some mistakes that I need to avoid the next time. And also some notes that helped me improve my work and my productivity in general. If you want, you can fill them out and use them whenever you're studying your upcoming course. 21. Bonus #1 Your 10-Day Plan To Launch Your Course: Hi there. I'm really excited to share my first course bonus with you because I believe that this is what got me to launch my course and get the job done. This is a ten day plan to launch your course. And as you already know that most beginners without a scheduled never really get the job done because we prioritize other important things in our life. And then we postpone the course for a week or two. And then by the end of it, it might be months without any brokers. So this plant is simply designed to keep you on track. So as you can see here in the first page, that you have to select the date that you want to launch your course. And so just write down the name of the month and then select the date that you want to launch your course and also write down the title of the course that you want to launch on that date, and then you can write down today's date. The date that you are filling this form is the day that you need to use std, then you can move on to day number one. Day number one, you should dedicate to the course details. So work on all the class details that you need to specify when you are launching your course inside Skillshare, write the language, the topic, category and subcategory, ideal group of students, whether they're intermediate or advanced and so on. The class skills and notes. So don't fill this one randomly. You have to be using the course curation blueprint and the answers based on your research and what have you selected. Eventually, by the end of the day, you should have done all that work. And before the day is over, you need to fill up this page. And then the next day you should move on to the next one. So as you can see, the next day is focused on the course outline. So as you can see here, there's a checklist which means that if you want to go with all of them, then you need to take all the boxes. If you want to include something else, then there's a space for you to include it here. If you do not want to include bonuses, for example, than just leave that box empty. And then go ahead and start working on the main content videos. So decide if you want to go with one video or multiple videos and then just write down how many videos for your main content will you include? Then here you can start writing some descriptions. So again, you need to use your answers from the course creation blueprint and just write the final answers here once the day is done and you've done already all the homework and the work you're supposed to do. As you can see, a day three is still in the course outline because I do believe that it should not take just one day. You need to be very specific in your answers and you need to take some time on knowing the best structure for your course. So spend two days on the course outline instead of one. And once you're done, I have already added space for 17 videos. But if you need more, so if your course is bigger than 17 videos, then just multiply one of these pages and then just use this space. So therefore is dedicated for the class project. So write down the idea, decide on how is it going to be presented. So texts, video, pdf, file, photos, or other, as you already know, you should have a text because you cannot launch a course on Skillshare without the text and create a description for it. There's place for notes in case you want to write down something that you want to include later, whether inside the course content or whether just for yourself. So day number five is course initial draft here where you could start it on creating your videos. So decide here if the videos need to be scripted or outline. We have already covered this in the course creation blueprint. Write some notes for yourself and just get started on working. So as you can see, the number 567 are dedicated to video creation. The first day you spend on creating the initial draft. And then these two days you spend on creating slideshows or tutorials depends on what you want to include. Again, there's place for 17 videos, but if you want more than just multiply the. So I spent three days on creating your videos depends on what you want to do. You can start with the first, maybe scripting the first video and then recording it immediately and then move on to the second video. Or you can script all your videos together at once and then move on to the video creation. So once you're done with the video, you can use the box to take, Do not take the boxes here to decide whether it should be scripted or outline. You should use the course creation blueprint for that. But once you're done scripting or outlining the first video, then you can just use a check here and then you can move on to the next step. So use this plan to stay on track on what you have accomplished so far and what you still need to do. Once you're done with video creation, hopefully in three days, take longer and the beginning, maybe it doesn't make sense to say ten days because everything is very new. However, it can be done, especially if the video or the course is not very long. But if you want to give yourself more time than maybe you can extend this plan to two weeks. So yes, you need to set yourself a realistic deadline, but also makes sure that you do push yourself a little bit to get the course done. Because once you're done and you click that Submit button, you will realize how easy it is to create a course and you will want to get started on creating more courses. Alright, so let's move on with a plan. I just want to show you the last few days and days 89 are dedicated to video editing. You spend three days on creating the videos and then you spend two days on editing them. However, if you feel like you're editing, It's taking too long because you're not very good with iMovie yet, then feel free to give yourself a few extra days as long as you have a deadline in mind and you're pushing yourself to get the job done in the days that you planned. And as you can see, the day number ten is dedicated to course publishing. On the publishing day, you need to start by designing a cover image for your course as well as covers for the rest of the videos and do not worry in the upcoming bonuses, I will show you how to design a cover image. And once you're done, you need to follow this checklist, which is identical to the one that is created in the course creation blueprint. So every time you're done with this step, you can just add a check and then move on to the next one. If you want, you can write the date of the day you publish your course. This is the ten day plan. Of course, as I said, make sure to extend it if you need to, make it two weeks or even three weeks if you have in mind every long course. However, I do recommend starting with a short-course. My very first course was an hour and 15 minutes. And it did take me up to 12 days of work. So it is really up to you and also up to the niche you want to create your course around. If you're creating an art-based course than it might make more sense to have a very long course where you're demonstrating the art skills you have. But if you can manage to create a short course and then practice all these fields and then learn from your mistakes and then your future course will be longer and better than I highly recommend that you do that. Alright, so that's it for this bonus. And let's move on to the second one. 22. Bonus #2 How To Design Course Cover Images: Alright, so for the second bonus of this course, I want to show you how you can design a cover image and add it to your own course. So as you can see, those random courses I found on Skillshare, they have some different styles and you're very welcome to go for something similar to this one. So it's just an image. But if you want to design something similar to this where you can add some texts and images at the same time, I'm going to show you how you can do that. I'm gonna go ahead and use Canva for this. And I'm going to click on Create a design and then go for presentation. Again. If you use Canvas for free, you able to follow the same steps off. These templates are a pro, so you cannot use them, but some of them are for free. So you're welcome a copy of one of them and then make the changes. I'm gonna go ahead and select this one right here. So I'm gonna pick this one to be the style for my own cover. I think I want to go for a different color for the background. So maybe this one and then make my text a little bit darker. So just for the example we're using, I'm going to use photography. Make the text a little bit smaller. Or maybe just for beginners. I will select a different color for this. And then maybe just add a different image here. So photographer, alright, so this is how you design a cover. I think I just have to remove these ones right here. There's so many different options. It's really up to you to decide what ways the style of your own course. I like to go for things that are very simple. I like to keep it a little bit clean and add some texts so people can also read what the course is about inside my slides. But if you also want to go for just an image, then only have to do is just drag an image here and then you have a cover for your own course. 23. Bonus #3 Skillshare List Of In-Demand Topics: Alright, so for the third bonus of this course, I want to share with you one of my favorite features of Skillshare that not all teachers know about. So right now we are unknown Skillshare homepage. And if you scroll down to the bottom, you will find the teacher help center. And then under basics of teaching, you will find tips for class topics. So if you scroll down to the bottom here, you will see an in-demand topics list for June 2022. So this has been updated last month. Right now we are in July 2022. All these topics you can find here under these niches are topics that seem to be in very high demand. So a lot of students are searching for them, which means if you know any of these skills and if you create a course, you will find a higher success than just selecting a random topic. This list has helped me a lot because there has been days when I wasn't sure about what to create and I went looking for some advice is inside the Skillshare platform and I found it. And to be very honest and genuine with you, the courses that I created around and list, we're actually facing a higher success and more students than the courses that I just simply picked because I made my own research and decided that the topic was doing well. Because they do not just keep this list forever. They do update it every month or two, which means that they do the homework for you. So they do know how many students are looking for these topics, they're searching for them, how many courses there is and so on. So based on that, they create this list and they update it regularly so that teachers can find the topics that they want to create. And of course, you should be able to create a successful course. So if you're not a photographer, then you shouldn't just go ahead and select it. But if you do know how to, for example, market on Instagram, then this is a very good chance for you right now to go ahead and create a course. So regardless of the timeline that you are watching this course, I really recommend that you do a gift this list, I look and just make sure that you're aware of what seems to be in demand right now so you can grab the chance and create a course for yourself. 24. Conclusion : By now you should be fully equipped and ready to start publishing courses here on Skillshare. Earlier in this course, we've covered some of the benefits of publishing online courses and how it helps you as a teacher to build an income stream and share your knowledge with others without having to physically be there. What do we haven't covered yet is the contribution you are making to other people's lives by investing your time and effort to finish your course regardless of what niche or topic you want to teach when you create a course and allow millions of people to access it and learn from you, you're providing a great value that should not be underestimated. Online education has changed many lives because of the reduced costs and the fact that students have access to so much knowledge without having to be tied down to a fixed school schedule. My first-hand experience with online education goes back to 2016. I was a student at business school while working part-time as a Sales Consultant at a lot of interests in design, but no time or financial freedom to learn it anywhere in my city because of the fixed schedules and the high cost. But thanks to online classes, I was able to learn and practice weapon brand design during my own free time, and that ended up being one of my main business models today as a freelance designer, when you're working on your own course, keep in mind that someone will find the value and the knowledge that they have looking for and that it will help them improve their lives one way or another. I find that to be my main motive to keep going whenever finishing a course is becoming a daunting task. I truly hope that you enjoyed your time taking this course and that you find it useful. Please leave me a review or a comment below and let me know how your experience was. I would also love to hear what topic you selected for your own course and would love to check out your course once it's published. Thank you for taking the time to finish this class and I look forward to welcoming you to the Skillshare teaching community.
