1. Promotional Video - Create Book Covers with Canva: Hello, my name is Romney and thank you very much for
joining this course. And that had a credit book covers for low and
no content books. My career in
self-publishing start with a couple of years
ago and of a soul. Well, I have a 30
thousand books, in fact, on the bestselling author across multiple different NACA places, including the US,
UK, and Canada. Now what I'm gonna be doing in this course is teaching
you everything, getting to know a bat, your book cover design, the key elements which can
help you to sell more books. Now, what I'll do is
run you through a few of the key areas
we will be covering. Because at the end
of this course, you'll be able to create
your own book covers, had them formatted and
ready to be uploaded to platforms like Amazon
and income Spark. So let me get into the
contents of this course. The first area we're going
to be looking at are the critical design
elements that you need to take in consideration when
you're creating your book. The next one would be
your book formatting. What tools do we use to help
with your book formatting? Number three. And the critical one is
your book cover design. So I'm going to show you
how to design your cover. We Canada. Now we're looking
at the final proof. So getting the book
cover ready for print, making sure it's in
the right format. We can upload it to ADP
and other platforms. And then finally, I'll show you some ways to create some book mock-ups as well as an extra
section of this course. So you can help with your
marketing strategies. Even if you don't have any cover design experience this course, we'll show you all
those steps to get you started so you can create
your content book covers. I'm excited to get
started in this course. So let's jump into it now.
2. Taking Action For Book Cover Creation: Hello and welcome to
lesson one of this course. I'm excited to be able
to bring you all of these information because when I first started my
publishing journey, A2 didn't have many skills in regards to design
and creativity. My first few covers
weren't great. In fact, mouth probably
not first number of books that are created
weren't that great? I did go through a time where I was at sourcing
more cavities on. But I actually loved the
process of designing cover. And through feedback, through the opportunity of
learning Bain hour to bring together better skills that have helped me to
create better book covers. Now as he'd know when you're scrolling through
online bookstores, there are just some
camps kinds of books or book covers
that stand out. Now, our focus is gonna be on low and no
contempt book covers, but that's not the side. You can't take what you're
learning from this course and apply it to more high
content books as well. So what's important through this course is to make
sure that they're at times you do pause and you implement
what you're learning. There are many people
that do courses, but I don't stop and implement the information
that will just go into the next course
and the next course. Now it's better to complete
only a few courses per year, but to implement everything that's being taught
to you rather than information
overload because that will just stop
your progress. Now, as an example
of a few books that I've created more recently. This one here, if
I pull it back, this is another LoadContent
book through a credit. There's some books
in the background there that I've also created, but your design
will be up to you. But what I want to teach you are the key elements
that have helped me to get bestselling books. And when you do design
your book covers, you just need to think through what the most
important elements, the elements are going to be for the customer when they're
searching for the book. So let's jump into the key areas this course we'll cover so that
you can actually come out the other
side of the course much more knowledgeable
about what you need to design and apply those skills from this course
into your book covers. Let's get onto that now.
3. Main Contents of the Course: What I want to do is
just go through in a little bit more detail what
we're gonna be looking at that will help you
through the process from creating your initial idea about what your book cover is going to be through to the design elements and
then making sure that it's ready to be loaded to the main platforms that you
can publish your books on, such as Amazon, TDAP or
Kindle Direct Publishing. These also drafted digital
is a published drive. These Ingram Spark and
plenty of other new, new cameras that are coming
into the market as well. But let's have a look
at these key areas that we will be focusing on. Just so you do get the idea
of what I want to cover. Then we'll go straight into the process of creation
for your book. We looking at the
critical elements. There are critical elements for your book cover design
that you need to consider. Nice book covers don't include these key elements
that will help them to get the attention and
the eye of the customer. I will identify those four
key critical elements. Then when we do go through the book cover creation process, you can see that on applying that information and that
knowledge to the book covers. The second is the
book formatting. Now, I struggled with
this a lot when I was first learning is how can we actually formatted
correctly and get the raw measurements so that the system or platform like
ADP will accept their books. And there are some tools that
we can use that are free. And it's another paid
tool that you can also use that might be
able to help you as well. Number three is the
book cover design. And this will be the real, the solid part of this course that will teach
you many, many elements, the book cover design process
and you be altered then go back and apply that information with
your own cabin designs. We'll be using Canva. You can have Canva for free or you can have a paid
version of Canada as well. But we'll look into that too. Then. Final proof. And what I mean by that, What's getting the book
cover ready for print? So we'll hit the front
cover and back cover. And we wanted to see the process that we
go through to get the Kaaba in the raw format that we can actually
use to upload. Now again, this
was an area that I struggled with. When
I first started. I had a number of
rejections back from Amazon kinase pay the same. A book cover wasn't adequate,
suitable for submission. I wanted to teach you
the rot method there. And then finally, I'll
show you some book mock-up methods that you
can use for your marketing. Because when you do
create your books, it's gonna be as important to
market your books as well. Now, I do have
another full course, a bad Amazon caddy pay low
and no content publishing. So that might be
something you're interested in after this course. But firstly, we want to
focus on that cover design. Let's get that kava
design rot because yes, people do judge a
book by its cover.
4. Introduction to Our Design Platform - Canva: So to start with, I wanted
to introduce you to Canva, which will be the
platform we'll be using to create a book covers. And there's a number of
different platforms you can potentially useful
book cover design. But all prefer Canada just because it's nice
and easy to use. It's very affordable. You can only use a free
version or I pro version. I'll be using a pro version
during this course. But there's now,
there's no need to get the pro version if you
just want the bisects. And you can still do everything
that I'm going to show you in this course
with the free version. But of course is gonna
be extra graphics and changes with formatting that you can use with
the paid version. But that will be your choice. Again, you can use a free
version or the Patriot. The decision will be up to you. In a moment. I'll
login to carve up, and I'll just show you a few of the key elements of Canada. They will be getting into a
book cover design course. Just so I, because I
wanted to actually show you this information
before we get started. So you're a little bit familiar with the
platform if you haven't already chosen to use Canva before for any of your design? Cannabis got many, many different features that
are fantastic for design. As I said, It's very easy
to navigate through. The platform has
been designed for both beginner through
to advanced designers. And that's why I love
about it because as you progress in your the ability
to be able to design. So does the ability
to be able to increase your design
skills on Canvas too. If we just have a look along
the left-hand side here, we've got our search bar and we can choose different templates, and I'll be showing this
during the course as well. But if you wanted to
say learn to brought, then these weren't the
logo area at the moment. What a mod two is not
changed the dimensions, It's a little bit different. So I'm just going to re-size. If I just do 11 inches, we've got 11 by eight inches. We go re-size. Then if we do templates and we did it all depends on
your book cover size. Then it provides a whole heap of different templates that
you can use as well. Now these templates might have different graphics you
would like to use. And to clarify, yes, you can use the elements of Canada when you're
creating your design. So you do have the ability to
use it when you do publish. But it's important
that you don't just copy the elements as well. So let me quickly show you some information about
what the what you can use as part of the agreement with canada when
you're using the platform, one of the Tegea
to where they talk about the commercial
use of images on canva. Having a look at here, the
content will be either free. You can get three or three. The pro version, you can
use free content, no cost. As the name suggests. It's important to say
here that getting a law, since you get the loss, since when you use the
content in the design. Pro content license, let us use the content in one
design, you must, must pay to obtain a new
loss and say tell me lots to use the same piece of
content in a new design. If you have a Tampa
Pro or Canada for enterprises description
and a new law since he's automatically sheets, UH, Tommy, use a pro
con enter new design. Basically sign that if you have a Pro design subscription, you can continue to
use the sine elements. Each Tommy, create your
book covers, so that's fun. What's allowed? You can use that content in
Canada designed for Ryan. For a wide range of
personal commercial uses. You can use your
content in marketing or social media or even
sell merchandise. We could design it. Don't re-sell where
distributed or tight credit for unaltered
media provided through Canvas so that is signed it
don't just use a template provided in Canva without
adjusting it or modifying it. If you modify, it's
perfectly fine to use. So that's what I'll be also
teaching you in this course is to make sure that when
you use elements of Canada, that you're making
adjustments and making different
amendments to it. So it's not just the
content that I provide you. You've been out to put your own personal touch on as well. If you're wanting to look further into the
commercial use of Canva, then definitely recommend
you look into this. It's basically if you Google the loss senses and copyright or just write Karen
Back commercial use, then you will get a link through Google that will take
you to the SWOT. And you can read this yourself just to make sure you're comfortable with
everything as well. That is some information about the copyright and the
commercial use of images. On Canada, for your
peace of mind. If we just come back to the
key elements of camera again. So we've got a template so you
can put anything in there. If you wanted to put camping, then there's elements
that you can use. If you wanted to use, for example, that
lands, you can use it. If you wanted something that you want to include in your
book cover similar to this, you click on it once, then that will come up. And then you can move
elements around as well. And you can change things, you can get rid of things. You can add pages as well. And again, that's something
we'll be covering in our design tutorial,
we'll design course. So let's just go
back here again. We elements. You can choose a whole heap of different elements as well. If we just did campaigning guy, then it'll give you a
whole heap of things here. If you hover over it, then it'll tell you
whether it's a pro. So they have a little cram. That means the pro
subscription image only that you can use. That's another pro
one that's free. So you could use that
one if you wanted to. And that again is a
difference between the pro version and
a free version. You'll see the options for
the pro and you can use them, but you'd need to
pay a one-off fee. Each time you use an image. It's just a bit of a heads up. If you're using a pro image in a free kava subscription
with the uploads, what you can do is you can
upload a whole heap of different media that
you might want to use. And that can be included into
your Canvas design as well. So they might be different
things that you might want to upload that you feel would be suitable for
your book covers. Now with a text, you can choose a whole heap
of different texts as well. You just do the heading here and you can change
the different covers, different font types as well. And you can talk to say,
one Hand handwriting. So got it back. Get rid of that. Handwritten. And then
we'll give you a lot of different different font types that might be suitable for what you wanted
to design as well. So that's what you
need to keep in mind. Again, is a whole heap of
different things here. You can go down, you
can scroll down and check out the different
kinds of font tops. If you're creating
different videos, you can add audio. There are videos you can
create these backgrounds. So it can do a search
of a background. Just say we do beach. Then it'll provide different
backgrounds is beach. You can just add values, different backgrounds
or different colors. You might want to
black, we want, want to blue to yellow. And you can change
that up all the time. You can actually create
QR codes as well. And that is something that you might be
interested in doing. If it easier on the
inside of your book, what you'll manuscripts
sort of things. We won't be using the QR code
on the front or back cover. But it is something
you can definitely use in your manuscript. You can create logos and its
different elements of Canva. You can do too. That's
just a quick look at the cava and the platform, but we'll be going
into more depth about how to use this forever book covers in future
lessons in this course. You're welcome to go ahead
and create I Canva account. Or you can wait to
the end of the course and you can create
your account thin. But just make sure you
create your account and either use the free version
or the paid pro version. If you do decided
that the pro version, there is a 14 day
free trial that you can use Kelvin for just
to save its rot view as well. So let's go to the next lesson.
5. Why Book Cover Design is so Important : The first thing I want to
cover before we get into this course is the importance
of book cover design. Now the book cover
design can have a knock-on effect for
many different things. Firstly, when you
launch your book, if you're not getting
those initial styles, then that's going to impact your attraction and your
ranking on Amazon cardiac pain. It will be the same for other platforms like Ingram
spark drafted digital, Lulu, published drive, all those platforms wanted
to say book-selling. And if your book is not selling, then it's not going
to gain traction and it's not gonna rank for the
right keywords for your book. Now, the pains why you're
creating this book covers, is it for yourself
as a self publisher? Or are you looking at developing a small
business yourself as a freelancer to
create book covers for clients or for
other authors. The YE design your book
cover is gonna be very important because you won't get styles unless a customer logs, you'll cover and moves
to click nav button. What other impacts
can you book cover have if it's not designed well? If you're running marketing
campaigns like Amazon ads, then your book cover, if
it's not designed correctly, will not be able to get traction on that platform.
Platform either. You might be getting impressions if you're running Amazon ads, but you're not gonna get the
clicks if your book cover isn't what it should be and what's going to
attract the customer. You need to think
about plenty of different things when you are designing a
book cover as well. Finally, your book cover is
something that is going to reflect your brand
as I self-published. Or even if you're designing
for other publishers as well. The professionalism of your
book cover is so important. In this course, I want
to show you some of those critical elements that are important when you're
designing a book cover. The three critical things that you need to consider
when you are Designing Your book
cover that you need to know before you actually
get into this course. Number one was making sure that if you have
a great book cover, you'll get those
initial styles and get the attraction you need with the algorithm of Amazon card API and other platforms to
get the book ranking. If you're not designing
a great book cover, then you're not gonna
get a clicks if your marketing your book on
platforms like Amazon, kVp. And thirdly, it is a direct
representation of your brand. If you don't have a
great book cover, it's not going to represent
your brand very well. So they're the
things you need to consider when you are
designing a book cover. And that's why it is
so important to design a book cover for any
sort of book that you have that bay at long-form books or
high content books, LoadContent books, and no
content books as well. Now your book covers can
have many different formats. There's the e-book
version, the piper back, the hardback, and even
audio book covers as well. Your book cover is
going to be critical across those three to
four different elements. You need to get it wrong. Let's move on to the
reverse of this course.
6. The Key Elements of Book Cover Design: So let's start the
first main section, which is the critical elements
of your book cover design. As I mentioned at
the very beginning, there are elements that just stand out when you're looking at online bookstores and
you scrolling through. Do remember that if you do have a book that you want
to go onto Amazon, that there's only a
very small thumbnail. Now many people use mobile device to scroll
through the books. And so therefore
book cover design becomes even more important. But let's look at these
full critical elements that are find the difference between a
great book cover design and a pulley executed one. Let's have a look at these
four critical elements now. Number one is getting
the graphics rot. You need to know your audience. What are their interests? What is likely to
capture their attention? Is the book cover that
you might have seen that has some elements or graphics that you think could
be used in your book. Cover. The graphics. Pretty much what's going to grab the initial attention
of the customer. Then what they are lawn will do is then go down to the title. So the title of
your book depends on your social standing
as well with your title, what are do teach it in my mine, foo, foo, paid low and no
content publishing course. These are back keywords
in your title. And ensuring that when
you create your title, that it's capturing what
the person is looking for. Now if you're someone
that is very well-known, there is an opportunity
to perhaps create titles that might be not, don't use the main keywords and things like that in their title. But when you're creating
your book covers, your total needs to be
bold and stand out. And your title needs
to be nice and clear and you need to be
able to read the book. And net rate that
then leads on to the next one is the
font top you choose. There's no point
choosing a font top if we can't read the actual
words in that font. If you're targeting
a book for the, for older generation, then it needs to be
crystal-clear because, ah, sought might
become an issue. If your target audience
is for young child, again, you need to have the
font that's very, very clear. Your font top can also tell someone a bap the
bitmap more about the book. But remember your
book cover will speak volumes for the quality
of the book That's going to be presented
to that person as well. Now your book could
be something that someone is using for
education and learning. It could be a gift. It could be logbook that
someone is using as well. But cater all of this
is making sure you get the graphics rods so
it's visually appealing. You've got the rod total and the size of the
title on the page. The font top is what
we call legible, so we can actually read it. And then making the
most of the spice. When you're creating your book, you're given, I spice. It's almost like the
property that you're given and how much you're
going to be utilizing all that space for
your whole book. Now as I point, having small
rotting on a large eye, 0.5 by 11 each book cover, you must make the
most of that spice. Because as I mentioned, when customers are searching
for your book, there's gonna be scrolling
very, very quickly. And when we do our research in a moment of different
book cover designs, you'll see how quickly
we move through them and what captures
our attention. These are the kinds of
things that you need to consider when you are cranial, cover, your graphics,
your title, your font, and the use of spice. Spice element is something that will be
definitely going into a bit more detail
in future lessons when we do cover a
book cover design. The four key areas when we do our research in a moment of different book covers
and what standing out, what doesn't stand at, what areas of Bay made. You'll see these
four key elements that we'll be working through. So let's do a bit
of a research now, let's jump into Amazon, will have OCHA through some
different book covers. What's working well, what's not. And then we can look at using
and applying that knowledge and information to the books
that we want to create.
7. Choosing the Right Color Combinations: This is just gonna be
a short lesson about color mixing and a backend in the rot palette for
your book covers. Color is important
and it will actually describe a lot about the book depending on
the colors that you use. And as we know,
color can actually elicit different
kinds of emotions. So you need to elicit
the right emotion for your customer when you're
designing your book cover. When I'm designing
multiple covers, I think about the
actual audience that I'm promote on designing my book cover for is the
child isn't an adult. Is it a business? Is it someone that seemed
to sport and recreation? Is it something
that's into camping? Is at someone that's bad
to do some journaling is at mile by mile
that fame out. So it all depends on those different elements about
how you choose the colors. Now there's a tool that
I've used previously that has helped get the right
color combinations rot. But remember, if you do want to find out the
colors that are working, checkout other
books that might be in your niche that
you can actually get some inspiration from and use those colors
from those books. Now, what I'm gonna
do is show you a quick free website
that you can jump on to get different
color combinations that might work well for you. I'm going to get on
their website now. Now this website is called
Flat UI colors.com, and it's on the top
corner just here. You can save Flat UI colors.com. What they, what they
do is provide you with a lot of different
color combinations. And you can then
choose what colors you like to use that
work well together. There's an American pellets, is the Azi pellets
a lot that one. There's the British
pellets, Canadian palette, there's all different
palettes that you can choose from around the world. What you might do if we choose, say the Azi appellate, we click here, we go on. And then if you
locked that color, then obviously that color works well with all these
different colors as well. If you want to color
the color format, you just do copy. Then you can go into
Canada, for example. We would just go to a slide
that I've been using. And you can then, if we
wanted to use a square, we can bring it up here. We can go to here. We go that one, Control V. And there is the color
that was wrought there. You can use those
colors in your cover to elicit the right emotions that you want when you are
designing your book covers. That's one free tool. There is one other
one though, Goto. And if you're not sure
about using this one, there is another one as well, but I've used that has been
really, really helpful. So I'll jump into
that website now. This one's through Adobe. It's a free color template or pellet combination
tool that you can use. This is color.adobe.com. And what you can do is
you can move the stall around and these different
color combinations to then get the
right color for you. And it will give you
the code right here that you can then put
directly into Canva. Be smart, be something
that you found helpful if you want to
get the right colors. So that color here we'll
combine well with this color, this color here we'll
combine well with this one. So each time you move the
color around and closer, it'll actually show you
the different combinations that work well together. This can be hard to find. If you're looking for different
colors for your covers, then these tool can
definitely help and you can choose different
complimentary ones as well. So as you spin the wheel, it'll show you the different complementary colors
that you can use and near the codes
that you simply plug into Canada when
you're doing it. Have a look at these shades, these compound monochromatic
triad, split complimentary. Have a look through,
see if any of those help you with
your cover design. And you can use those with the background if you're covers, but also the colors of
your fonts as well. And depending on what
you do with your covers and the different colors
that you use will actually help you to
choose what's gonna be complementing those that you end up having with
your book cover. That was just a short lesson about the tools that are these previously for
color combinations in getting those color
combinations, right. What you want to
make sure you avoid, He's having similar
color tops in your font that don't respond
well with the background. So you wouldn't know, sorry. For example, a watt font with
a black background is okay. But you just got to
be careful using black colors too
much in your covers. Because again, it
depends on what you're, what emotion you are eliciting. If you use Blackett sort
of quite a deep color. Whereas if you use the
purples and the pink slot, these ones just here,
they usually at least it more of a happy,
vibrant color. That will have a big
impact and influence on what color combinations
you use with your books. When I was designing
the color combinations for the book that I'm creating these course are thought
carefully about that as well. And the blues or end up using the right
colors, I believe, for the demographic and
the age group that we'll use the book of credit
in this course.
8. Amazon Book Cover Research: In this lesson, I want to go to Amazon.com
because I think it's important that we
actually scroll through amazon.com to see
what elements are actually standing at some of the best-selling
books and perhaps save and eyes books at
an selling so well. Because these four
critical elements that we discussed in
the other lesson, uh, things that
you really need to concentrate on when you're
doing your book cover design. Let's jump onto Amazon now, let's scroll through lock. We are a customer and
see if these elements, It's sticking out
to us as I should. And if the cons
of things that we know we should be implementing
in your cover design. Now what I've done is gone into cognate I node for Google. Now the reason I do
that is because Amazon, the algorithm of Amazon more pickup are the
books that of pain looking at obscure
the data really did. I'm trying to find. The other thing that
I'll do is change the address to a US address. Just because the United States, Amazon.com market is the
largest in the world. So all want to be looking on
the width most books out. If we just look on the best
sellers at the moment, you can have a look and say what different
colors stand out. This one stands out
because it looks like it's 3D image that's coming up. Some bright, ranked them bright. This one stands out
just because of the colors and the water
saying that they're using. But the models I'd
be ones that don't really stand out to me. But everyone's got
their different opinion of what a really good
book cover looks like. This one isn't a stand-up book cover,
but it's been rough. And many, many years
we looked at this, Punnett was publishing
daddy 2 thousand. So it has a good 20 years
that's been published for. And if we keep going, you've got very well-known
authors like Tony Robbins. I'll definitely put a
face on the front cover. This is nice and
colorful as well. But let's go into some
more categories just to find books that book covers, self publishes that
way now that we could get some ideas from. So let's go to, let's go to different books,
different categories. Let's go down to do
education and teaching. Let's have a look at this
as a first starting point. If we scroll down here, we can see a box it, you can see the big
rotting that I've used. And you've got a
nice big rotting. It's Northern California. Just depends on the top of book that you're
wanting to create. If it's a kid's book, then you might want to have little illustrations of
these that are working well. I've used it obviously for two or this person's try to sort of almost copy the column
which is not recommended. But getting all these Archive. If you scroll down further, this one's got some good
elements on it as well. And it just depends
on the kind of low or no content book
that you're creating. What I would recommend
you to go through, bond app, the niche
that you're looking at. And then really have a look
and say what the book covers, the best selling book
covers are doing. Let's go to, we'll
just do camping. Camping books for kids. Let's do that. Let's
have a look and see what the base
capping books are doing. There's a sponsor, so we can
just say ignore those ones. We have a look here. So we've got some books here. Got books and nice and colorful. We can see the
rotting that they're using as well and the colors. Just take note of the
colors that we're using. And lock this one. This one's a really nice book. It's using really
good font tops. Illustration. Is
it good at selling really well at 2733 bays? And if you look at the
psoas, the books as well. So this is if we go
down here to seven by nine inch product
taught now if you wanted to get the ability to say all these things as well, there are different crime
extensions that you can use. If you wanted to
get the base here. Then there's a chronic
extension up here. It's called DS
Amazon quick view. You can just go to
the Chrome store or Google and download that. And that will bring up this
little box for you as well. What I'm looking for, the different cover sources, the different colors
that authors using, the different font types. This is one stands out,
It's a sponsor book. He's ranked at 3037 thousand. This has gone to pij
to very, very quickly. As I said, this is the speed the customers are
looking for your books. So that's why you need
to make them stand out. This one's a very basic book. It's good, bold, rotting, but I think the images look like they might vary from
a very basic source. If you go down here
with more online, this covers quite good. It's got some good
elements and I'll lock up the seizes that
I've used as well. Yes. That's what you should do. You should go through check
different book covers. Get inspiration from the
different covers as well. This is nice, colorful one. Watching need to find font
tops that are working well. This one's got
really good fun top. So you have used all the
spikes on that cover there. That's what you need to do. You don't want to
have small rotting. This one I think is Y2 small. And this author better be very careful because you're
using aka Jurassic Park, which is I wouldn't think
would be permitted. Just look through
and that's what I got lucky for your
research when you're looking for different
book covers and the elements that
successful books are doing. As I said, you can
grab some inspiration from some of these books. But It's best to
choose the niche that you're in because the niche of kids camping books
is going to be very different to camping books. Books, adults. We have looked at the
different designs, say at the very, very
different in design. Phase one stand at, say you have a yellow
really stands out. This one. Notice rotting but the images
is a little bit planets. It looks like a beautiful image, probably not suitable for
the camping sort of things. This is nice and simple. It looks almost
like a picnic rug. Not some bold as well. And you need to have a
look at how long they've been false that was
released in 2020, and it's right at 97 thousand. There are some book covers
that sell really well, but you don't know how
they selling well. But this one here, I, Nasir revolts
striation, pattern. I think the fonts
is a very good, gets caught up in the
colors in the background. So it's actually very
hard to say a name. What you need to do is design your book cover so you can actually read it
from the solids remain. But this is, this is a
large computer screen. If you're looking from
your mobile device, you wouldn't even
be able to read any of these bottom sections here to try and design it so you can read everything
on that book cover, regardless of if
it's a computer or with a computer screen
or whether it's my boss. Hope that's helped you just with a quick little law of
search or book covers. And to use that to your advantage when you're
looking at the cover design, the different elements
the font tops are using. They're using the
spice correctly. Using the right elements
that are suitable for the audience that your marketing your book
or creating a book for.
9. Front and Back Cover Design Elements: One important thing to note that when we're designing
a book covers, we need to think of both the
front cover and back cover. Now some books will require some books you might
decide to include a spawn. Welcome, this one just here. And that's easy to be done in
Canva or the book smart be 40 pages and you can actually include a
spine with the fonts. So you need to be mindful of that when
you creating a book. This book here is
around about 180 pages thick enough to be
able to include the spine, but this one here
is about 40 pages. So kVp or other online platforms when you're creating
a book cover, don't permit that spine
with the font on it. What we're gonna be
doing is looking at both elements when we
design a front cover, what we need to include
and the back cover. Now if it's a children's
book, for example, you might like to include
little illustrations on the back to show what's
included and a description. And then on more
longer form books, you might like to
include more of a blurb. For photo, whatever
that might look like. Let's get into the formatting
side of things now so you can actually correct
the front and back cover for your books.
10. The Basic Design Elements to Use With Canva: In this lesson, I just
wanted to show you some handy different
tipsy can use within Canva for designing
your book cover. Now it's important to know these different elements
before we get into the main structure element
of creating a book covers. Just so you're aware of some of the different features
that I might be using when on creating
the book covers. Let me just go through
a few of the k1s. So firstly, when you're
creating your book cover, I usually go through
the templates here and I can pick out different elements that
you might want to use. For example, if you
wanted this just here, then you can click on
here and fall and at the different kind of
font hot they're using, you can grab each of these elements as
well by themselves. Now remember, he can't use
the whole cover bought self. You need to make changes
so that you can actually use these commercially
with Canva. You might want to add
a page, for example, might be up, up here for watt. Now, if you wanted to find at what color
this was just here, you go to the plus symbol, go to the dropper. Go across here, just
hover over way. You want the calotype, you
wanted the yellow color, you click there, and that will tell you the code for the color. If you wanted the stars
to be the same color, you copy that code. Go to a star, GAAP there, click the plus button
and you go What that the other option would
be that you click on it, and this is already using
the document colors. So you do that. But if you wanted to
add another picture, just so we go down here, let's make that plan again. You need your background
and we've got a watt. If we go back and
let's upload an image. So you go to images. If we had one of
my books there and we wanted to find out what
color this was just here. We would then click here. Gain. We can use this dropper. And that can tell us
the different color. That. You can also say that when you do drop
an image into Canva, it will actually
start to bring up the little cover
that was there and show you the
different colors that are within these just here. If we get rid of this, Let's just go backwards as well. The other thing would be, let's go to elements. Now remember that if it's got a little crayon main search
through the pro version. If there is no crown,
you can use it for free, so that one's spread use, that one's pretty use. But if you went down here,
that would be the pro version. You can just do anything. Rocket ship. You can say that that's
the pro version. These ones you can use for free, anything without the crown, you're welcome to use. Unless you pay the subscription. You can talk anything in here. If you just wanted photos, you can go to photos,
just the graphics. You can do videos
if you are having, if you wanted to create
a marketing video, there's those
different features. Now with the app loads, you can upload your media from this point
just here as well. Again, videos and
audio you can upload, you can search the different
uploads that you might have. You can go to text as well. With the text, you can choose a different
sort of text here. You might choose that one. And you can click here
and change the text taught if you want to bet to
look like it's handwritten, for example, just
got a handwriting. And it will bring up the
different font types for handwriting. If we just say, we'll
just keep it as that. And if we go here, we might go to this one. So it will change.
It can change. If you had a different
font top as well, you can go all the
way down the bottom. What we want to go back here, you can add the brand fonts
in a board I call brand kit. You can also upload your own
phone fonts hot as well. So you can go all
the way down here. If you had a font that you downloaded that was for commercial use on
another website, then you can upload that font to Canva and you can use that font within your
designs as well. So that's something that
you'd want lots to use. Therefore, we went back here and we just chose this one here, the fair background color. We just choose a color. Before we wanted this to
stand out a bit more. Nicaea and go up to effects. And you can choose a shadow. Then if we wanted
this to be a watt, then you can see
the transparency changes over here
and the offset. You can make it thicker, bolder. If you want to
stretch it, you can. If you want to change the color
of the rotting out there, and if we wanted
to make it blue, we wanted to change the sizes. We can do it there underline, you can do dot points,
the different effects. You can do more of
a shadow as well. There's different options
if U2. Now if you've had An element if you got the
Pro version and we just did before you did
rocket ship again, we're just going to the photos and we picked this
one just here. If we pick that one, if we wanted to just have
the rocket ship by itself. Again, this is only
in the pro version. You reduce that. Click on it, go to Edit image and
you can do shadows, but we might do the background
remover to start with. So this actually remove that pink background for us and it'll just
leave the rocket ship. Sometimes it works really
well and effectively. Sometimes it doesn't
come up too well, but most of the time it does. So we then have our rocket ship. But this, now if we wanted
to bring that rocket ship alive even more than
we can just plot it. We can go to shadows. Now, you might want to
have pij lift shut up. So we click on that one. And now it looks
like it's coming, it's coming out of
the pipette work. It's now almost 3D. And you can click on
the middle section here and adjust the offset. You can adjust the
opposite like that. Transparency. You can make it darker,
you can make lata, and you can also add a blur
if you want to as well. And if we went apply, that would nab they implies and it becomes an awesome
effect on our, on our screen or for
a book cover as well. So you can choose a lot
of different graphics and images is so many
can choose from. Now I mentioned the text. So you can do text. You can choose your
different ticks top here. You can even add
a different ones. So you've got all these
different options here that might be
suitable for e-book, just depends what are these? If we scroll down here further, it gives us different options. Choose this one. Then you can just
change h element. If you want to stretch
it or to do is just go and it might not work. So what you can do,
you can actually go here and you can ungroup. Therefore, you can
move. Each of them. Will usually works. Not working for
me at the moment. So I didn't type that at boss. But normally you can
ungroup the words from each of those combinations so it can move individual elements around. You've got those
options to choose from. There's just so many different options
you can choose from for Canva with your background, you can choose different
vector on top. So if we go rocket, monophonic, anything we want to spice, then we can choose these. So if we did this one, then we can choose
the background in the color combinations becoming important when
you're doing this, we might want to change that. We might go, Let's do this. One. Changes the G9 and you can crop. Want to bring these
speeches, download that. And then you have your
title at the top here. And you can go to a
fix and I get a watt. And transparency with
the transparency and the you can do it like that. The other thing
you can do if just making sure you can move
it so it goes centered. But if it's over
here, for example, you can go position and
then it can go center. And then you can also bring to the middle if you wanted to, if you want to undo it,
just there as well. So that gives you another
option that we'd see elements if you had
different shapes, shapes. This will bring up
different shapes. C2h6o. You can choose if you wanted border that runs around
the page, spread across. If you want it small or narrow, you bring it across, bringing all the
way down and below. You might get a different
color, modern watt. And if you wanted to
send it backwards, then you get position. And you can have
it at the bottom, middle, right,
center, or middle. If you wanted to. You can actually right-click
and then go backward. And if you wanted
the rocket ship to the front right-click, you can actually at
the front now anyway. But you can move
elements around. So right-click same backward
or send to the back. If you wanted to
move things around, just drag and drop. And then you can
change the site, wanted the sun in
a different color. You can do that as well. Now if you wanted
to create anything, I'll click on the
back of your book. If you had a QR code
that you want it to link to your author page or website. And you can do
that. And I've had clarification from
Amazon that yes, you can include a QR
code in your books. So you get a QR code. You just enter the QR code
that you want to generate it. For example, www.canva.com,
generate code. Then it brings it up there. That's the code. You might want to
put whatever URL you want to do in those two. If you want to do logos, you can do logos. These are just the different
elements that I think are important for you to check out. Just have a bit of a play
around within as well. The good thing is that Canva, you can start for free and then if you want to upgrade, you can. But these are just
the simple elements I just wanted to show
you for the moment. You can also change to uppercase or lowercase
wherever it might be. And what else would they pay? The elements sort of things. Just if you don't get the
design you want to initially, then you can change it. Before we had, we had Rocket. You'd liked for
example, this design. You can click on it and you can go to a different
recommend Diogenes. And if you went to this one, then you can say different
recommendations as well. So there's different options
you can choose from. If the initial image is not working for you,
you can change it. You can also flip it so
that was facing that way. Flip. And it can
change direction horizontally into that with any of the images
that you upload. If we went to upload and
we saw these two CIA, then you can flip it flip it
around for the horizontally. You can do that with any
of you in your images to just a few different
elements I thought I'd show you it's not comprehensive. There's just a few
K1s at all use, but I thought it was worthwhile showing you before you get into the book cover design,
tutorials and lessons. Because if you're
aware of them now They went out to start using
them when we cover it, when we create the front cover, then at least you know what
I'm using and it's not, you're not wondering where I'm getting those images
from as well. Hopefully that helps.
11. Intro to Cover Trim Sizes on KDP: This lesson we'll be covering
the kava dimensions. What we need to factor in when
we are creating a covers. Now there's a number
of different sizes. You can create your covers. In a moment. What we'll do, we'll jump into
the code API and I'll show you the different sizes you
can actually choose from. But then also show you on Ingram spark at different sizes that
you can choose from there. Now, most of the time
they pretty similar. But when it comes to creating hardback covers and
formatting for hardback, there are only
limitations for CUDA API currently as the time
of filming this course. So currently there's
about five different callback option sizes
for Amazon card API. But with a platform
like Ingram Spark, there are approximately ten. But let me show you the
different sizes across both of those platforms being
the ones that you're more likely to be
loading books up onto. And you'll cover
design will need to fit those sizes to be eligible to be uploaded on the cardiac pay when you choose the different sizes
of your covers. Let me jump into KV. Let
me jump onto ADP now. I've just looked on kVp. Now they call them while they refer to them as trim sizes. If we scroll down here, we'll see the different
kinds of piper that's involved or that you have for Piper back and for hard Kevin. And that can actually impact the cover size templates that you're using because of
the thickness of the PIPA. Then we go down to
the trim sources. So there's plenty of different
sizes available from five by 86 by 97 ball attain, iPod, retain all
the way down to I point to seven by 11.69. And then you'll get the hard
kava trim sizes as well. And you've also
got the pages and how many pages you can actually do for each
of these cabinets, Piper, back, the
minimum is 24 pages. For the hardback, the
minimum is 75 pages. The most common size of a book cover is six
by nine inches. When we're doing this, we can see all the
different options that are available for us. And this will help us
when we design a cover. Now there's a tidy PE
cupboard calculator tool that aren't going
to be covering. In the next lesson. We'll actually talk also actually show us
the exact size and dimensions that we need
to then integral into Canva to get a cover
calculations, correct? Let's jump onto the calculator
in the next lesson.
12. Cover Calculator Trim Size Tool: So what I'm gonna do now is
actually show you how we get those calculations correct by using I calculated provided
by Amazon Kanye paid. Now we're going to use
a fictitious book. This is just one of them
light up. It's not polished. What we're going to do is use
these dimensions so I can illustrate how we get them for the book
we're gonna create. We've got a six by
nine inch book. That's gonna be the
front cover here. And up to there, a
120 pages in length. We're gonna be doing both a
paperback and a hard back, so I can show you
how to do those. Again, as I mentioned, we're gonna be using the kava calculated provided
by cardiac pay. Let's input this
information into the calculator and I'll show you the templates that
it creates for us. Then in the next lesson, we'll then put those into Canva. And we can actually
start to create a book cover using those, those templates and
using those dimensions. Let me go to the
Catholic calculator. Now. This is the calculator. What I'll do, I'll
just reset it. So it's caddy pay amazon.com
us kava calculator. What we need to do is just
put the details in here. We're going to go
through the pipe back to start with interior top. We can either choose black and
white premium or standard. Now, this is going to
change the calculation, so that's why you
need to get it rot. We'll just do pluck them.
Watt PIPA top cream or wop, wop PIPA. Pij turned direction. It's usually standard
to be from left to right unless it's in a country that might have brought to live,
but the quadratic. So I'll just leave it at left to right. With the measurements. We choose inches, and we're
going to choose six by nine. You got all these
options here and you can actually do a custom trim. We're gonna do 6.9 and
the pitch camp was 120. Then what we do is
calculate the dimensions. Now this will give
us the dimensions that we need to
input into Canva. What we can also do is get a template which we're
going to download. I'll do that now. And what we're gonna
do in the next lesson, we'll actually go through
and put these details, these dimensions into Canva that will create our template. Then we can start to look at the design process
for a book cover. And there's a few different
options we do have. So let's do the
download template that will now download
the template for me. If I click on that,
it'll actually bring up a couple here
in the PDF version, or pain J, fall. What I'll do, I'll save those
two files into a folder. Therefore, we can
refer to them when we go through this course and
you know, what we're doing. Then what I'll do is I'll also
do the hardback template, so we can use that as well. So we'll just leave that there and it'll just save
those will go back into quickly do the hard
back. With a hardback. We do have bonding topping,
hardcover, interior top. We would do black and white. We'll select the pipe at top. We'll use what PIPA. Lay that at left to
rot measurements. We're doing inches, we're doing
a sixth bond on essay how there's only 12345 different
options for hardback. You need to consider when you're creating your book cover. And if you're creating a book, what the dimensions out? If it's going to fit both
piping bag and HA back. Let's just do six by nine. And we're doing a 120 pages. And then we do the calculation
of the dimensions. Again, vasodilate the dimensions
that we put into Canva. And we can also
download that template, so we do that as well. We've got to fallacy a
PDF and AP pay and Jake, let me use this data that we've now got to go back
into Canada and to look at how we set
up our template in Canva so we can start
creating air cover.
13. Creating our Templates for Covers in Canva : In this lesson, I'm going to be using the dimensions
that we were already calculate using the
kVp kava calculator to create a template
inside canva. What you need to do when you've
got your Canvas account, you need to go to
create a design. Now in the design, you've got a customer size here. We are now going to go to our tidy pay kava
calculator and use these details here to put
into our custom cover design. It's 12.52. We got to him. We might to make
sure it's inches 12.52 multiplied by 9.259.2. Thought this will be our pipe it back cover for 6.9 inch book, but these are the
calculations we'll need for the front
and back cover. You'll see what a name you
go to create the Kaaba. And now we have
this cavity here. Now the next thing
we need to do is put a color out or put at
him plight of these. So we know where the
elements of a book cover up. Let me go to the file and upload it so that
we've got a template. What are deep before are saved the cover templates in a folder, and I'll show you
that in a moment. This is the folder with files. We've got paperback, it's
going to PDF and the pain j. And we've got what they
call case Lemonade, which is the hardback. We're going to use
a pipette back. What we're going to do. We can open all of these, of these up. There's
two options. You can either open it up and do a screenshot and then drop
it into your document. Or you can upload one of
these files to Canvas. We do the uploading of the fall. So I'm going to get back into Canada and I'm going
to upload this file. And so what I'll do is
go to upload just here. Applied media, just here. We want. Back, just here. I print it up. Once it's opened up,
we can click on it, and now it is onto my page
and we can stretch that, illustrate the coordinates. Now this will tell us where
we are permitted to put out front cover and back cover information where we need to make sure that
we don't cross. You can see the pink line
that goes around here. We need to make sure that
we don't have any writing that goes over that pink area and we can see the
spawn here as well. So if we want to include information and respond,
we can do that. Now the other thing you
can do with Canva easily, you can go to this button, that transparency button so
you can fight it as well. So if you wanted to start designing and then bring
it back into play, you can do that as well, so we can keep it locked down. Now there are two options
that we've got here. We can order design air
cover, just on here. We can design just the front
Kevin, just the back cover. And then we drop
them into place. And that's generally mod
preference is a lot to do them individually because it's
a bit hard to do this, calculate O2 to create
the kava just on here. Let's do it separately. What we would do is we'd
go to the home again. We've got a credit design
lights out for us. I'm not sure it's in inches
and we're gonna do a six by nine inch
creatinine design. And now this brings up, up the front page, the Kaaba, which we're
going to design. Because what we can do if we had a template
which is just here, if we had asked six bond
on and we just wanted to recreate a front cover and we just wanted
to drop it in. I'll show you what
that looks like. Let me just upload
a cover image of six by nine and I'll show
you what that looks like. I've got that cover image now. It's a six by nine inch. What we do once we
created a cover, it would be as simple
as getting it and then dragging it into place
so we can actually bring out, remember we've done with the
rotting together line down. We can get applied that. What we can do is we can fight this picture to make
myself out of the way. We can find these speeches. So you can actually
see up here with we have any rotting
over the lawn, so we're very close
there, but we're safe. Then we can bring
it back up again. We can see that
cava is in place. So that's why a lot to do a
single image for marketers. And it's much easier to
drop them into place thin. And then eventually
what you do is just delete the template behind and you'll lift with the cavern place
and we save it. But I'm jumping
ahead a few steps. We need to go back a few steps. Now. What's go back here? Get rid of this book cover. And we are now going to
look at creating a cover. But remember just to go
back a few of the steps. We went to our creditors on. And we put in the date house
from ectopic calculator, which were these ones just here. Then what we did is we then came up with L
mine template design. But these, and we dropped
in our template which we downloaded from L template
from our calculator. And then when we are ready, we can drop in images
into this as well. So you might want
to label this 66 by nine template for
front and back. Therefore, when we do go back to put L co-design on a template, which one of these,
because it's listed noss and clearly first
referred to later on Canada. That's how we get our
dimensions ready for Canada. And you do the same with your hardback book,
was a hardback. You get those
dimensions just here, would create your design. So you would make
sure it's in inches. Grab the 14.03410.410.417. It would input them into
the width and the hot. Then you would get you a
design background implied. Then you'd upload your
hardback template to be able to drop on
there from your photo. That's that component Cabot. Hopefully I've
covered it okay for you and it was easy
to follow along. The next bit is
exciting bit where we start to learn the process of kava design and cite images so we can put them on a
template ready to go.
14. An Introduction to Book Cover Design: Welcome to section three of
the book cover design course. We're now looking
at book design, which is the exciting
part of the course. And this section will be split into few
different lessons. I just want to make sure
that I'll step you through the process slowly
so it's easy to understand and you can pick up the important elements
that will come together so we can get
that book ready for print. So the first thing
we're going to be doing is designing out front cava. Because we could have
front cover and back cover and you may also need
to include the spawn. So what we're going to be doing is showing you only
show you through the process of getting that
cover design ready to guide. And that starts with
getting our sizing right from the very beginning
when we go into Canada, the front and back cover
will have the same size. You now mock creation, I will be using a
six by nine inch. But as I mentioned
a few lessons back, there are many different sources you can choose from image, choose a fourth bond
on demand have an eye 0.5 by 11 inch book. You might have a seven
by ten inch book. There's many different
options you can choose from. My example is just purely based on the mock edition of the
book that we're creating. So therefore, you can use that as being an
example to create your own. Let's get into the
next lesson regarding the front cover of a
book and getting that ready to go and the
right dimension sit.
15. Front Cover Design: Once you've worked out what size your cover is going to be, you need to go and
log into Canvas. Now we're going to
go custom design. And we need to make
sure you're in inches. And I'm going to choose
my six bar nine each. Now, you need to put in what
covered dimensions you have. But again, this is
just for our example. I'm using a 6 on it
could be an eye point. I point followed by 11, whatever size you want, as long as it meets the
cover songs requirements. This is stipulated, for example, we had a PE or whatever
platform you're creating your book for.
Creating new design. These will be in
bringing up our cover. And we need to start working on the different elements
that we want to bring together for our cover. You need to think about what the audience is going to
need for your cover design. Your cava is going to be
something that is for children. Is it gonna be for adults? Or is it going to be four
grandparents, for example? Just think through the kinds of people that will be viewing your book to
get the elements. The why you need them to. This is what, this is the reason why I went
through nearly listen, looking at different
book covers. For example, on Amazon, pay, it's a good opportunity
for you to check out what might be working
well for some authors. Perhaps might not, might
not be working so well. Remember there's
four key factors that we need to put in place, such as the graphics, the font, fonts, top and size. Also utilizing the
spice and making sure that you're using every
space element that you can. But also remember that
you can't have rotting, that we'll go over those little red tympani template lines. Then if you wanted to,
if we go to Upload, could grab the pipe
back just here. And I could do this if I go all the way
across and stretch, it. Could do something like that. And that would mean
that on not gonna be going it's going to be close, not be exactly what's
in a it could be. Just need to, what we can
do is go to position. Let me just move this
position and we go center. And then we can just stretch
it a little bit more. Just seem to apply slot
that will therefore allow us to put
what we need to in here with that going cross
into the red section. Now you can, I might
these transparent. So you can't have even say
it and they won't want to do is start to add your
elements on there. Now if you don't want that there and you want
to edit at the end, that's perfectly fine as well. I'm not delete that.
Let's go back to our elements that
we can actually start to use to design ebook. And what we can use the
template section just here. We can actually talk
things in for inspiration. But before we do that, let me try and pick
a subject or an area that I can create a cava and I can run
through that process. So I'm gonna just jump on Amazon quickly and checkouts
in different designs. And I'm going to try
and create something during this tutorial or this lesson that will
actually run through the process that I
would normally run through. Let me do that now. What I'm gonna do is just
choose a paper airplane book. Now it's just
something I've come up with and thought what am I do is use that as an example and we're
going to make it, I will use a 6 on. It's going to be obviously
much bigger than that, but let's just use it
as a kappa design. What I would do is look through here and
have a look and see what different
elements are working and also how popular they are. This book here is very popular. And I can say that he's
being read rotting. And I put the paper applying
there and it's in Cloud. So obviously that's
quite popular. Lot that one, you can see that
one is doing well as well. Few of A's are quite good. They ranking really well. This one's got clouds as well. There's a few different
things that we can get, different ideas and we
can get from this book. Scroll down here. That's very plying,
but it's still doing. Okay. Let's have a look at what the most
popular ones are. That one's very popular, looks like a popular
niche at the moment. I like the design of that one. Let me see if I can create
something for pipelines. I'll come up with a
title and a subtitle. And let's, let's try and create something that we would
use for pipeline. Let me do that now. Brought some probably going
to call it something like IT. Olson pipette, a
pipelines for kids, a book that kids. It's gonna be a 120 pages, but there's gonna be other
pages in there that would talk about the design
of the applying. And then there'll be a number
of planes that they could then tear out of the
book and then re fault. I'm not gonna go
into the manuscripts are things that the Kaaba. But that's how I'm going to design what I'd probably
do to start with these, go to templates and I would rot. Actually pipe airplane. Just have a look and see what is in the
section just here. Are there any illustrations or graphics that we
can potentially use? There any pipe or planes
that Let's go back here. There's one there. So what I could do normally add a page. You can copy just that
one. I'll put it up there. I just get a bit of an idea and just keep going down here to see if there's any other
elements that I can potentially use or
experiment with, it doesn't seem to be a lot
he's so what I might do is even just tight changes
that you live in. I pipe applying guy. Not a lot of things. Just look for color
combinations as well. Can't really say anything there. So let's go to elements. And I'm gonna do
some more things we can potentially use as well. That would be Groupon. Can just move this down. And I can get editing
each background remover. Just white for the
background removed. Because I actually
liked that 3D. Look. White for this. Comes up about these. So what are normally do is erase anything once I probably
don't want these books. But I'm not lay the
other lameness, so I'll just do that. Make sure everything
is gone being done. Because what we could also do is just check the background. We might even do a
background we sky. So if we do blue sky, we go photos. I think. Let's have a look
at that other one. Blue. I haven't raised real, so we want to use
just a lot balloon. We actually mark guy
background color. Back to that blue they might've had actually it was
quite a good color. Let's see if we can match it. What we want do is
actually go back to actually match the color. Here. Click there. What we can do, this, oops, wrong one. They didn't do,
dropout that blue. Then that will try and give us his closest color that we can. Now what we can do, he's got editing each
background removal. And this will now
remove the background. And we can rewrite these books. Will step, sorry,
they not be books. Rises, steps. Let
me get it done. It's a bit hard to
see. Mop, you're out now. Little bit there. That's called it. We can just experiment, say whether that's something
that would work for us. Might not, we might want
to use that one as well. We can make that
into a white color. We can always trim that,
just get rid of that. Now. Now it's looking a bit
different to what we want. Next thing is that we
need to add some clouds. So all we get elements. Were getting clouds. We can do graphics, not gonna be using any real photos and you
can just use the graphics. If you want to see
whether we got three-day, notice that these are crowns, that means it's a pro version. Nivea could work. Both. Move up in clouds. Down here, might be
something like that, could be pretty good. That looks like a real Cloud. We can also edit the
image to negative b. Water. Always got eight of the image broadness and brought it up. We can do what we want
with it like that. Again, in my own might
not be what we want. So let's just have a bit more
of a look. Clouds again. The other thing sometimes ought to do, It's got templates, neurotic clouds, safe
as anything in here. Now I've got that. We got here. What is real? It looks now I don't
want that one. Let's step back here
and have a bit of a look first citizen class here that we could
potentially use for Apple. Possibly work as well. Keep scrolling down quite a
lot that background actually, that the routing is
actually quite good. Two Panes on what we wanted to show better
routing with this. Let's have a look at
that other one and see what's the rotting I use. It's pretty bold. And it's it's mainly this illustration here which
they've done well with. If we go back to our
does on this one, we're going to say color dive you want, you can also do is you
can print screen. Here. What we want to do is
get the color that they using. I didn't like this. She says saving what
the book capitis on looks a bit like so
we can keep it there. We also want to keep it in
the middle, just like that. Now let's change this. If we just go, what we want to do is get that. Click on, get the dropout, this guy onto here. Like that. And mark out
a fix their shadow. We can do black. Bring the transparency up. Quite sure whether
rotting, that one. I think that writing. Then what we're gonna do is
to have pipelines I bold. What am I bringing in the middle? What we want to get
an element like this? What we want to do,
we're going to call ideal some air route size. Print it up like that.
That's the reason we got that right side centered. To call it also a pipelines. Now. The next thing we need to do, I think we need to get a
little bit of color in here. Wouldn't mind adding some of
that blue in here as well. So what I want to use,
get another square, bring it up here, bring
it down a bit narrower. This makes sure it's
position center. We're going to use color that
we see in this completely. Sure. Could also use black
and then make that a ROT. Not sure, not I'll multiply around with
that a bit lighter. We get rid of that. Morning, the thing just like that.
Let me just close it up. We're getting there. So that's it. Now, the other bits we need
to add is the pipe applying. Now we can, we can get the
image from Canva font, an image from somewhere else
that you can also utilize. Before we go, let's have a look and see if there's anything that we could
potentially use. Myopia to use
something like this. Let me just read GC speeches. So we've actually got
it still to refer to. We got here background. Let's see what this looks like. You could potentially use it. Let's get the background
here. Edit image. That broadness of it
makes any difference. Because we're just trying to get the raw broadness picture. They might be science we can
do. Let's just have a look. It's always worth just
putting the pitches in and saying these other things we can do that could potentially work. That one could
potentially work as well. Keep going down
and having a look. Cool. 1a2. That could work. Let's have a look
at the swelling. Watch his work as well.
If we got rid of that. What we could then do, depending we already
have that background. That background. Quite sure. You could always save
both. What you do. You keep this Katie's
here and say File, make a copy to the sign. We're gonna get rid
of this Toccata that will get rid of that. Swoops on this one. We'll keep that one and we'll
replace the background. And we get rid of
these top pH here. We can then work out what we think could
potentially work. So let's try ethics
and we're gonna go to transparency offset
just a little bit. You can also use the so if
you want to make it bigger, amazing, you get away. I can just include the class. For example, if you didn't
want the piper applying, you just include the clouds. And then we can include
the paper pine. Another time. We got down. That
move the hand there. Then with that same
image that we had, re-do it, trim it. Then we got the image
background remover. I think the book also modern aid a background or sorry, a border. I'm just bad apply
with that one as well. Now let's cut the pipeline. It always just
kind of grab that. Might be just moving things around, having
a bit of a look. Even turn this well, my online not fit there at all. We won't want to move it
to being over over here. Just about moving things around a little bit to
save we're not fit. Now the other thing, Almaty, is add some stuff
in the background. So let's have a look down here. We further see if there's
anything else we could add. These could potentially
work as well. Not really. Get rid
of that altogether. We've got these two. We can always use those. Let's have a look
and see if there's anything else in here. That could maybe look
like in the background. Full-size work. What we need to do, that
one might be better. Let's just move
this one over here. Let's just have a look at this. It looks more like a
child's hand potentially. Background removal. Tap. It looks probably not quite rot among these
contact and applies. Just have a loss. It'll look down here, see if there's anything
else we could use. Probably could be, but we're just going
to stick with that. I think for the moment,
as you can say Canada, Scott Simon are different things you can play around with. What I'm not locked
to do is include border around here or
a couple of lines. So what more do is just go here and we can make that a bit. We're going to make it squaring and we're going
to make it white. What we do, a copy and duplicate
it, bring it over here. Ingest. We might want
to do this. We feel that maybe dive
in eighties hand. Hands. I'm not going
back to regionally was and then what we can do is unlock those
in squiggly lines that we had in that very
first picture. Sure. If it's on this one, we can play around
with these two and see whether we can
make that look better. There's two different designs
we can play around with. Just trying to look at this one here. Quite like that one. I actually went to
look back at it. Now the reason why we
can't use that one. Again, what I want do
is actually make that, sorry if you jumping around, this is what happens when
you're doing the design. You just need to try
different things. But what am I do is pause and I'll come back
with a finished product. But you can see the
processes on going through just trying
different things. Just looking at
different elements is trying to get
everything right and making sure
the headings nice and bold say we're using
a big bowl writing. So we're using up the space. And we're also using elements
that are suitable to the age group that we're
creating a book cover for. This is the uptight
Tamar design for ID, awesome paper airplane designs
for kids. It's 1 12th. So I just changed the
hitting around a little bit. And I kicked this
illustration described a little from that original
one that we had, which was this flying just here. I've actually added
that to this PDF. So what I'm gonna
do is like this Wilson designs to 12. And I'm not even that. That's how I've created
my front cover design. As he see, as you got to say, I didn't move a number of different things around
to try and get it right. And you're not gonna get
it wrong within an hour, take you three or four
hours to get right. There's probably still
some elements that I work on this design. But I wanted to show
you the basics and the, the ability for Canva
to provide you with different elements suitable to the age group that
you wanted as well. And I felt that this codon is going to be suitable
for AI to 12. And I've got a NAT does
on the back cutoff, which are complete
in the next lesson.
16. Back Cover Design: Now that I've created the
front cover for the book, it's now time to look at how
we create the backup and the elements that you want to
include in that back cover. So be looking at the
process that I'll use, a process that you
might like to use. And then how we
actually bring it together and save that document. It is great to be uploaded to a platform such as Amazon
card API or Ingram Spock, whichever platform you
decide to publish books, if that's what you're
doing, or even designing book covers
for other people. Let's go into the
process now of how I design the back cover
using Canva and after some small changes that are made and a couple of small little
things I included. This has ended up paying
the front kava for IT. Awesome paper airplane
designs for kids. I 12. And it was good to be
able to show you the process. As I said, of just added a
couple of small things in here from the lesson I showed you about
front cover design. That was the pipe applying that it's
going through the word. And also I also included
at least we will snippet of what you can potentially expect
inside the book. Now it depends on the
book you're creating. You might not, it might or might not be
applicable to do this. But sometimes it works well. If it is, for example, I load content book that
you might be creating, then including something
with a customer can see what is inside the
book, can sometimes help. But again, it depends
on the kind of book. You're not going to do
that for every book. And this is going
to form part of the back cover design element that we're
gonna be looking at. Now, what we need to
do is have a look at the mine template that
we're gonna be using. And also, how are we
going to bring these together so that we've got a front and back
cover to get them. Firstly, if we go back to the template that we
had for a pipe or back, this was a six by nine
template that we had. If I go to my uploads and are bringing the cover up
that I've created. What we need to do to start
with just doing show up, that it fits the
size as we want. Just drag it down a little bit. What we need to do is
just to ensure that all the writing is
inside the red line. So let me just do that in a moment by going to
the transparency. And we just need
to reduce it back. What we're looking for here. We've got here the pink
line that runs around here. We need to make sure
all the writing is inside that pink line. So you can see, if I
zoom this up a bit now, you can see that
these just great. And that's important
when we're designing. So it's Al-Qaeda have an
element that is outside. But you need to be a way that they could potentially chop it, cut it at that black line there. The inner pink is
for the rotting. And then the black line is pretty much where the
book is going to be. Potentially cats
when they're doing the printing of that book
we wrote with that source. So we can zoom up again now, mixed with respect to hover. And all we need to do is do exactly the same size
as this one here, which was a six by nine. So we just need to
get a blank design again and make it
as six by nine. So remember, what
we need to do is go to Canada and just
go to custom design. Then we do a 6 on and get
a blank canvas again. So let me just bring that
blank canvas up now. I've got my blank
canvas, blank template. What I did, I went to
custom design again. That's just when you go back to the main homepage of kava, you input six by nine
inches or depending on the size of your book and
you get your blank template. What I'm gonna do is
make sure that I'm using the same rotting as my front kappa with
the same font top. So I'd have that ready to go. What you might like to do, what I normally like to do. You just copy the elements across to here, even the Kaaba. You just copy. Got a cross here. Then it's saying is uniformed. What you might like to do is
just make it a bit smaller. What I'm gonna do is pause the video or the
listener the moment. All I'm doing is bringing the same elements
across prolonged, just making it a lot smaller. It's almost gonna be identical, but just a little bit smaller. So let me pause and
I'll fast-forward. We're not get
everything ready to go. I've got the elements right now. So all I did was I
kept on going back and forth between the front
cover and back cover, grabbing elements
that I think would be good to include
in the back cover. Now the design is up to you. Just remember it's gonna
be the same process that we do to make sure that it fits. In the zone with the
pink along here, I'm ensuring the
rotting size in there. The other thing to
consider is with a barcode is going
to go on your book. Mostly occasions. It sits on the bottom
right-hand corner of your back page. Sometimes either p
is in the middle. I'm just gonna see if I can find a book where the
P's in the middle. Now quickly just jumped
up to have a look. And most books, wherever
you could find. The backhoe is down the bottom, the side just here. However, what you do need to
be careful of is when you're barcode is something an image on the back say that had actually
covers a little bit there. That's what she couldn't be mindful of when you're
creating your cover designs. We want to avoid that. When we're creating our design, we probably need to
leave the section down below here that is clear. That doesn't have
anything that's gonna be obscuring the barcodes on a skew up anything
there as well. Now you're back cover design is going to be
completely up to you. To include some
description information. You might want to
include an author bio. That what I will
do is just include a few different
elements that you might like to include
for book lot these. But again, it's up to you. So if you, for example, I just stays pure
illustration purposes. If you had images
within your book, might look like
this, for example. You might like to get rid
of the green outline. Just get rid of
that in a second. Just made this little bit, a little bit thinner
at the back here, but you might want to have some information
that is insoluble. The other thing you might
need to do, go to text. You just smart like to
include some writing. Remember, just reduce the
size to whatever you want. You can use different
font types. You can have your description. You might want to have
a couple of paragraphs. Just remember that the
psoas you book will matter in how larger
font top easy. If it's an 8.5 by 11, You can have larger font. You can include more information
if it's a smaller book, what this one is six by nine, you are going to be more careful with how much information you include on the back cover. The model also be an author peak that you might want to put on there and you can design it as well. So let me just put
something very small and you can see
what that looks like. I've just added a little
picture of myself, the total down below. You might like to have some
description information here, something that might
be inside your book. But let me show you
another example of some back cover descriptions
and information that you might find helpful in
knowing how to put together. Some of them are books. And
this is just a mock example. Again, this is not a book that
was officially published, but you can see how I've got the information there
or the total there. It's assign phone top. Are these used an element from
there to bring it across? Just a small little
explanation of the book and then a
graphic down below. Just make sure that you're
wording is centered as well. And you're making sure that
everything is in the middle. And you allow for that ISBN, which would appear right here. Let me show you a third example of water could look like if it was say, a
children's book. Instead, this is
a hardcover book. And that's why there's quite a large gap
that runs around. And I can show you that in a moment how we do
the hard cabin. But you can see how included some illustrations from inside, inside the seas at
another example, how you can create it. This is a hardcover book
and that's why it's such a big gap around the
ant side of this book. But I can show you later on
about the hardcover designs. You can see how I've included some illustrations
from the book, then some rotting as well, and the ISBN will
be going down here. I've left a gap
there, and I've used the same rod routing
table font type on the front and the back, decide this consistency
when you're doing it. Once we've created
our back cover, then we need to add
it to the template. So let me take you
back to that template. I'll upload the cover and I'll show you how
to do that as well. Once the back cover is designed, what do you need to do is go
to Download and we're saving it as a PNG in each
would download it. And we say that to
the folder that will have a front and a back
cover up another from kava. Kava, you do exactly
the same thing. You'd go and you'd
download it as a pain j and you'd
cite that as well. Didn't you going to have
two separate images? We're going to have a front
cover. And at that, Kevin, and we're going to be adding
those to our template. So let me show you that process. Now one thing I forgot
to mention to you is to make sure you title
it correctly. So I will do Piper cover 6 on just so we know
that saw as it as well. You do it that makes it easier. And then you go download
and save it as he paying j. Southern were aware of the front cover filename and
the back cover. So that's what I'm
gonna do right now. I've got the front cover there, which I applied it before. Let's upload the back
cava, which is just here. For that to upload. Once it's uploaded,
we can click on it. That will bring it
across here and we just need to make
sure we center it. Interrupt into the RA
position, drag it down. Now we need to do a
transparency and just make sure that is actually inside
the lines without rotting. Can see potentially
they could be an error down below here
and also on over here. That is an important
thing to consider. And that's why we have that
template in the background. So that's good that
it's happened. So I can show you
what we need to do now to fix that error. Go back to my back
cover and I'll probably move me across a cypher can say that it needs to go across to where
the, where that is. But we've also got to
consider that it's now going to the area where the ISBN is. We can see that as well. So he just needs to be
very mindful of that. So we might need to probably
reduce the rotting size. You can adjust it, you can zoom it up
if you want to. We can change it
font top as well. Just keep adjusting
things as you need to. It's probably going to
be right about there. And we've got these elements
now if you wanted to, you can bring these
into a warm it as well. And you can change the size just depending on how much
information you've got. Now we should be
brought to go again. So what I'm gonna do is download
this again into my PNG, then upload the right media so we can put it
onto a template. Let's go ahead and do that. Now. He's getting
rid of the old one. We got into upload a new
one which was just here. It's important that
probably delete the all ones so
we're not confused. We get the new one, bringing it into position
and drag it down there. Now what we can do is check out the transparency and everything is in the right place now. No writing that is going over the edges and everything
is in alignment. Now the other thing
we might want to do, depending on the size your
book is create that spawn. Need to create that just by, will have some writing. So if we have IT, what we might do, we might use the same writing is this one. So we might go back here, copy that template,
money to zoom it up. Make it really small. You might want to change the
color of that one too black. Then we probably need to
make it really small. And we turn it 90
degrees, bring it up. And what we do is we go
position, we've got middle. Then when we look here that's
in the middle of the book, the spine is very narrow, didn't have much room to
do anything with that. It's important that
when you are creating, if you do decide to do a spawn, that you got plenty of room to actually make it
that way as well. The last thing we need to consider with the
spawn is the color. What I normally do is
go back here and I would copy the color. I'll paste it again. I didn't work. I'll try that. Copy. Paste. It doesn't say, oh, I know what's going, it's
going in the background. So what I would
normally do to get even copy this one, copy here. And I'm going to
drag this across. And I can place that
in the middle here. Can send that liquid. What we need to do is
make sure that this is well centered right there. Name what we need to do is
if we just get the template, delete the template name, we drag that back up again. Everything they say that there's a little
bit of watt behind. Now you can, you can add, if you wanted to go back ground, you can't do a very lot
blue if you wanted to in the grid galaxy
tell us so it click there, get the drop-off, and go to maybe that would be the
color that we're using in the background. We'll just go into inside. Therefore, behind here is the color and stopping to be showing through for
that middle spawn area. That's how we design f
front and back cover. The last process is
to save it correctly. What we're gonna do
is go to download. And I'll just get rid of this. Second. Sorry about that is
to change it to PDF. And we want to save this
full cover design front and back in PDF format, not PNG PDF. And then we download that
design standard loading. There will be click
on the design. Now we've got our front
and back cover ready for us to load up when we're ready because this is accommodating all the elements, the size of the book, the piper we're using, the number of pages
we're using as well. And it's got your front
and back cover design M with accommodated
for the eyes begin. That will appear in the
bottom right-hand corner. That's the front and
back cover design. And I hope this lesson
has been helpful for you. Just going to move
myself over here. We've got everything
that we need now, the next part of the
process is actually showing you an
alternative method using Canva to get your
front and back covers created that will cite your
significant amount of time. But again, it's
just an option for consideration if that's
what you want to do. Let me go to that
next lesson now, before I finish, I forgot
to tell you something. When we are doing this, just make sure you
change the name so it's called Wilson designs. And therefore, when you
do save it as a PDF, you know that that is the quick fall that you've
been using to upload.
17. Hardback Formatting: In this short lesson, I'm going to show you
how to do the hardcover, formatting and
design fewer books. We're gonna be using the
same front and back cover. But I want to show you
how you can actually format them in Canada,
the Rottweiler. Let me jump in and Kevin, now, what do I have here is
the template that we downloaded in one of the earlier lessons from
the KD pay calculator. That's the hardcover template. And this is the one here. So all I've done is I used the calculations provided
by ADP in the calculator. When I did my custom design, Our then put those
calculations in, it came up with
the watt template. And then all I did was uploaded the template that kava
calculator gave me, which was this one just here. Then put that on,
stretch it across the page size that I've got
all the modern dimension. So it's exactly the same
process with the US for the pipe of these Tom It's
hard deck and you can see that the color of the pink is much broader and
that's still left for the hop back cava to fold around when I do the design or the
printing of your design. What we need to do is
to get F front and back cover on and then
aligned into the rod area. Now remember we put
out barcodes here. We've got our front cover there. So we need to do
is drag it down. Drag it up and we got
into the black line to start with which you
have the cross two, they're just nike
shorts rot on the spot. Then we get our
back cover and we drag it to the spot again, very similar to what we
did with the pipe it back, bring it across. Now you can also put your
middle spawned down there. So if we went back
to this design here, we could almost grab the
piper back control V. And we can make that a little
bit bigger because it's the hardback and put
it straight down. Now what we need to
do is go to position. We need to make sure
it's middle and Santa, which it is it sitting
there perfectly. We want to get the
color as well. We can use the background here. We can use a color. The color might be better. So we can go to, when we did this one, we can use the color
or the clouds. What we might do, we might use the sign technique as we did
before. We just go here. We're gonna go and grab
the background color here. Jumping around, sorry. We will get rid of this now. Now it's in the background. So all I did was pasted
the background and that, that'll be on the
template that we had. And now the background
is there and everything should be brought to go.
What we wanted to do. If we wanted to bring the
template back into place. We can actually see using transparency to make sure all the right
things in place. We have look here that just
falls into place there. And we do have these pizza that is
drifting over. That's okay. As long as the rotting
isn't into that sign, that's okay for a pitcher. And there's no rotting inside
these pink zone there. And we check it all
entities perfectly fine. So we can actually delete
that template again. Now what we need to do, we've gone our hard back cava, ready to go in the
right template. And we just need to
download it as a PDF fall. So I'll get that up
and ready download regarding PDF print download. And then we'll have our PDF document saved so that
we can actually use that. Now might show you've got
this written as well. We can probably change this. Tubing. Hardback
cover changes things. Sometimes I'll do forget
and you need to remember. Hardback cover for IT. Designs. We just do follow them. Okay, So that is
the design there. Then what we need to do is click Download and we
make sure it's PDF. We downloaded. When we get the file, we say that in the
folder that we've got our pipe a back cover,
back cover now. And they were in
both in PDF formats. And then we've also
got the images, the front and back images
in pain GI balls as well. They should be already and I can just grab that and have
a look at it. Oh good. I'll make sure that
that file is put into more specific
folder for model. And that's how we do the
hardback cover using Canva.
18. Cover Design Alternative with BookBolt: In this lesson, I want to
show you an alternative formatting elements of your book covers both pilot
back and hardback? Yes, we can do it on Canva, the formatting side of things, the design we
absolutely do on Canva. But there's another alternative. We can use these
actually quite quick. And it will do all the
calculations force. So let's go onto a
program called Book bolt. Now, book boat is software that I use a
lot for my publishing, particularly with my
book covers and things. Let me jump on to book
bulb now under my account, now there is a pied
subscription for book bolt, but you can use
Book bulb for free, for a few elements, but not the coverage is on. But let me log into my account now and show you
the process that I use for my paperbacks and hotbeds for the actual
formatting element. So I've logged in now and one on there do is go over here, click on my nine down
to book both design. And once you've
logged in, you got the option of paperback
or hardcover. Let's do pipe back
to begin with, gives you the drop-down boxes. So we're doing a
cover. You've got all these different
options here. We're going to do I6 by nine. We get into a black,
black and white. You can do the premium standard. We'd just doing black
and white color, black and white Python
pitch camp 120. Then we do. What we do is submit this thing, does the calculations force and it will bring up the
template that we need. And this is such a time saver. It's sometimes title couple of minutes for these
templates to come up. It might take me to Tom. Now what we need to
do is upload images. So we go to the images. We go to the applied, we go to here and we
grab the front cover. I'm gonna go and grab
the back cover as well. Now we've got two
designs just here. Now what we need to do is just add them onto the document
so we scroll down. Just so it's on that
very bottom line, on the bottom line there. And then we bring it across, say dies little dots here that needs to be on
the outside lawn. So just make sure it's
accurate implies rot. Then we do the same
for the back cover. So we stretch it down to the very bottom line,
drag it across. It's in place, rot there. Then once you can
do if you want to, is you can put that lot blue
color in the background. So you can't go product. And you can select a color
here if you wanted to. That might be too dark. So what we can do a lot in
it up probably about there. Might be still a bit broad. So what we can
actually do is go back to Canva and grab the color. The wire can do that and
he's got a background. And just get that
little dropper. Tells us what the
calories just there. Just copy it. Go back again to make
sure it doesn't size. Then we highlight it control V, and that's the color that we want and that will
cover that spawn area. Then what we need to
do is go to download. Now this was prepared in
PDF format, ready to go. It can take sometimes 60 seconds for these to
prepare. When it is ready. It says you design is
ready to download, so we just clicked download. This will then bring up
the kava that we need once it uploads or downloads. And there we have it. That's our cover in the
PDF format, ready to go. All the dimensions are there and it saves a lot of,
a lot of time. Now let's try the
hardback and see how quickly we can do
the hardback option. And again, you can
save this document. So what we need to do is
go to download there. And we will save, we'll just call
this bolt bottom. It's got the pipe
of X6 by 920 pages, black and white interior. And we can only book
both for final. Then what we're
gonna do is go back here and we're going
to change the product. So we're going to
now go to hot Kevin. We're doing six bar non black
and watt, 120 pages submit. And this will bring
up the template again in hardback
and brought now it is calculating the
dimensions that we would traditionally have done through
the kVp cava calculator. But book bulb does all
the calculations for you. So let's just wait and see. What do I do? I can even
potentially lay the link at the end of this course at bat had to get
book boat as well. And the potential discount to, let's just wait for
this to download. The hub tymp hard
cabbie template is now downloaded and we do exactly the same as
what we did before. Grabbing the Kaaba, stretch
it, bringing across. But the problem is,
say hats old pink, so we need to bring it
up here. So it's rot. Rot there. We need to make sure that were rotting is not going
outside. The pink area. We bring it up. We've already got
the sky blue color in the background from
the previous design, which works out well. Then we need to get
our back cover. Drag that across. Just make sure that these
dots are on the watt law. And since they're lower down, we can even stretch
this a little bit. The back cover sometimes
be the easier to do that. Then what we need to do, just not quite happy
with that one, just stretch it leaves will be bringing up a
little bit there. Now pretty happy with that. Now what we're gonna do
is download this one. Again. It can take 60 seconds, sometimes even a little bit
longer, just to prepare. So I'll just wait for these
to be ready to be downloaded. Now says download it, download this one, and just
wait for it to load up. And hopefully it'll work
force there we are. We have the hardcover template. Now you'll see that
it's lot blue ran here, but that will fold underneath the actual design so we don't have to worry
too much about that. It looks like at moderate
lifted a little bit. So I might go back
and download the guy because sometimes an error can occur if you don't
do it properly. So what am I do is just go here. I'll just move it
a slightly bit. Just like that. Bring it back again. I'm just going to do
it one more time. I just want to make sure there's no harm in doing
it to us to make sure it has worked properly,
narrowly to download. Let's just check it out now. That's much better. It should be an even
gap between the top and the bottom
create in there. And then we've got a
spine area in the middle. The only thing is you need to put a spine on this as
well if you wanted to. The why you would do
that is you can use text and you can add the
text down the middle. So you might have it takes, and you could then rot the ID Piper applying designs
and you can stretch that. You can do what
you want with it. So that's another way you can do the spawn if you want to, on on book bulb, but we have covered is
on here if a hardcover, what I would then do
is download is called hardcover photo site it. Now we've got our pipe HVAC
and our hardback all done in a matter of minutes on book
bolt rather than having to get calculations and
do it on, on Canada. The choice is yours. Book bolt, there
is a subscription. But that subscription
mark society. So much time and effort
and time is money. So that might be somebody
who can see that if you are doing quite a few book covers and you want to say that Tom, because it does all the
calculations for you, pulses got many
other features as well that you can
pick and choose from. With products and Cloud
ceph books got searches, you can do or keyword
searches as well. So there's a lot of
different features and book bulb that you can use
along with the cover design, a tool that we've used for
our paperbacks and wx. That's the why you can get around not having to use
Canvas for the formatting. You can use Book bulb,
but if you just want to use Canada, that's
perfectly fine. I just wanted to give
you an alternative for your cabbages on.
19. Book Bolt Studio - Updated Lesson: Since I created that
initial book bolt tutorial, there has been an update
to the designer tool on how to create book covers
and even the interiors. So what I wanna
do in this lesson is just provide you with that update and how you can use the book bought Studio to
create your book covers. There are some new features and tools that are going
to be going through. So hopefully that'll help you
because the previous model, the East to use or the previous dashboard has
now been made redundant. So you can't use that anymore. So that's why I thought
it was important to provide you with this update. And therefore, you can
transition smoothly across to that platform though
the book bulk studio within book bulb to
make your book covers. Let's get into that now. So to begin with, I'm going
to login to my account. As you can see, the core
products haven't really changed. You still got all the tutorials. The same dashboard appears
where you can do proc search, seller search, Cloud
Search, book scout. All of these things
are included in that first tutorial
that are created. But what has changed is the ability to do
your book covers. So if we were to
quickly look through these the products which we have seen previously
on the other tutorial. As you can see, it's
all very similar. If we were to go to Cloud e.g. we can just go here. If we did. We'll do the notebook and
let's just do weddings. Let's just see what comes up. It'll still show you
all of the books. And you can still do all the same things that
you're doing previously. Remember, you can also
check the timeline of how these books have been performing so you
can hover over it. You can see the cells
rank this book, e.g. was launched September 1, and then it is now
ranked at 137,000. So you can check that out. And the pricing has remained the same and
consistent at $6.99. And you've also got the
ice in number off the top. So it stays a sign. And if I just go
back into products, some keywords, we can do the search there with everything that's going on. So all of that stays the same. But if we want to check out how to do the book
cover creation, that's the most important. So what you need to do
is stick up to the top, click your name and
go to book a studio. Now, I'll have to
login again just here. Actually, I don't
have to login before. So what I'm gonna do is I'm going to start a
brand new project. Now I do have a book that I'm going to show
you the process. And this is a book that I
use for a course that's just a mock-up book that
I just think it will help you to explain
what's going on. So what I'm gonna do, I'm
going to go to this project. I'm going to start from scratch. So we go to New Project. For this one. I'm just going to do
the paperback cover, but we could do
cover an interior. So that means you can actually upload your interior as well. So when saves, it saves
the cover as a PDF and the interior as a PDF so you can upload it straight
through to kVp. But let's just do the
paperback cover to begin with, to give you a bit
of an overview, let's call it Ali and Ted. Adventure. Paperback. Yeah, This
book is a 8.5 by 8.5. So it's a square children's
picture storybook. It is actually premium
in color interior. Why did I ask that? Well, it can determine
the thickness, therefore the different
size dimensions of your paper back cover. So you just need to choose
what's appropriate for you on choosing premium. And it is very pages. So let's create project. What this will do is provide you with the
actual template. You can reduce the
template so you can say it or we can fight
it rot out for the moment. Let's just keep it
open like this. And what I now need to do is upload the Illustrate
or the covers. So I might have created
these somewhere else. All might have created
them on Canva or you might have created them on
different software platform. You just need to make
sure they're available in JPEG or PNG format. So I'm going to click there and I'm going to
upload the image. So I'd go to here, I'm going to go back a couple
and these are my files. So I'm going to do the front. I'm going to I'm
going to come up. So just copy both. Open. And both of these should
open up in a second. Is the back cover. And there's the front cover. What I now need to
do is I will go back and let's just
do one other time. So let's click this one. And it'll appear in a moment, so it covers this area here. One thing you might like to do to create a background color, what they call the paper color. We'll do that in a moment. But what I suggest you do
is you need to stretch it. So it goes to the edges. And if it's already
on the edge there, you can just stretch
it down here. What you do need to be careful
of is that you don't have any writing that goes past this green line that
runs around here. That is the cutoff line. So make sure you do not
have any writing over that. Then we need to make
sure that the back cover doesn't cover the barcode
area just here as well. So what we're gonna do now
is go to the back cover, which is this one right here. It will. So we just going
to drag it across. And you can what they call
snappy can last snaps, snaps into place around these lines if you want
to unlock it to do that. So what I'm going to
now do is stretch it. And what we can do
is stretch it down. I want it to go all
the way to the end. The end. You just got to make sure the rotting gain is the
spine right down the middle. And I'm just going to
lift it up a little bit. Just so it's that little
fluoride green lawn there. He is, right on the border. This one won't need
to go a tiny bit higher because you
don't want to see it. Probably just a little bit. I can see the edge, this tool. So it's best just to get
all these will be over. And you can see here
how I need to bring that close to the, to the edge. Now, I can bring this nice and close so I can get it
perfect if I want to. And the same with this one. I can bring this starts
right there and right there. See how now on the spot. Now what I need to do is bring these back and I need
to get the paper color. So if I go to, where is it? All? Go back again. I'm going to click here. That's the brush color. I'm just trying to
find the paper towel. What we might do is
move this across a bit. So let's go through
each of these. That is adding extra headings. So I'm going to go
to the drawing. And the paper color is
what's behind here. So you can see the
cover templates. So we're going to hide the
cupboard template now. The paper color, I want to be the sort of
orange, peachy color. So I get they call the pipette. And I'm going to push
that and I'm going to hold over the color that I
want and see when I did that, it now fills in the spine with the same
color as the same. And you can see how it
is appearing up here. So I want to get rid of
that around the border. And I can't see any nowadays. I think it all
appears to be fine. I'll do one last check with the writing to make sure that it's not going
over that green line. So you can see the green
line runs across the Ali, doesn't go past that green line. The same there. Now, that'll he's good. What I need, as I said, what I needed to make sure I do is get rid of the
cover templates. I've hidden the cover template or you can fade it right out. And I'm now going to
save this as a PDF, which is going to
be suitable for uploading to Amazon ADP. So I go to Project, I'm going to download
it as a CMYK, That's for
professional printing. So I'll pick download. Now it says cubed 278. Now they're just depends on the time of the day
that you do this. I sometimes get an
instinct instant, but there's obviously a lot of people doing this right now. So I'm going to pause this
until it downloads for me. Now. Since I've paused, it was maybe 30 s and it is now downloaded. So what I need to now do
is I can click on down, down here and I'll go and
show me the paperback. So let's have a look at
this, pay that back now. And see how if we look around, we might reduce
this a little bit. We've got the spine. So you can either have that in the sand color or blue color on. Quite happy for the
spine to be like that. And it is looking
really, really good. So that would be
the cover that I would use for Amazon, KT P. So what I would do is go back
and I would just cut that. Or are you actually watch
you need to do because this is in a compressed version, you need to extract it. So I would normally just cut it and then go and paste it
in the fall that you want, which will then extract it. You can use it. So don't you can just use
it straight from here. Makes sure you
extract it or cut it and paste it in another file. So that's how you get your
paper back for the book bulk. Now if we were looking
at doing the interior, you can also do that. If we went to project and
we went to New Project, I could go I could
do a hardcover. But if I did a hardcover, there are only limits
on what the hardcovers. So I've got an 8.50, 0.5. But at this current time, Amazon API doesn't provide me
with an 8.5 by 8.5 option. So that's where it becomes
a little bit tricky. Therefore, if you are
planning on creating a hardback book and only
putting it onto Amazon kVp, then it is worthwhile
checking out these five different sizes. So then if it was a six by nine, you could do a paper
back in six by nine and then hard
back in six by nine. It's very easy to convert. But for me, I will have to use another platform like Ingram spark to upload my hair back. And then I can link
them on Amazon GDP. So that's the only
challenge if you're doing a hardback in a
paper back in there. Okay. They pay does not permit
the size for you. We're not going to do the
hard back in for this. But what I will do
is do the cover. Any interior. We doing these books bleed. We're doing a premium color. So let's let's do
paperback and interior. It's correct. The project. Notice how it's now
got pages here. And I can upload my pages from a PDF are created
in Canva if I wanted to. Now sort of defeats
the purpose because I've already created my, if I go back, let me go back into the file. So just jumped on now, so
if I got a paper back, I've already created
the PDF version already for the
interior in Canva. So if I go back here, I've already created that. Wouldn't need to use book bolt. But if you had individual pages that you wanted to
create into an anterior, then you would click here, and then you would simply
upload the picture. So you would go to Upload
Image and then you could say, I could upload the whole
PDF file if I wanted to. So I would choose the
PDF and I would go to the paperback and
I would do this one. And I'll open that one. And then it will give
me the options here. So is it a paperback interior
or a hardcover interior? So I'm going to choose,
once it uploads, I'm going to choose the
paperback interior. So we'll just wait
for this to upload. And it tells me
there's 38 pages. Select paperback,
interior and bleed. Because it means
that the pitches extending all the
way to the end. And I submit. Now what this will do is
extract and load up all of these pages and even create a sub folder
for it to sit in. So it's nice and easy two. So I will wait for this
to extract all the pages. And this is almost done. So it's now extracting, it's cutting the margins. And this will be ready in
probably 60 s or less. And then a final thing it does
is it's extracting these, just saving the files. So this will usually take around about 15 s
or thereabouts. Then it extracts
them all for me. So what I can then do
is fire closest down. If I go to I've got the cover. But if I go up the cover there, I can do the cover, which
I've just done before. But if I wanted to add
the interior pages, I would then click here, click on the actual page,
click on the picture. Then I go to the subfolder, which is then got them all. If I wanted to page one, then that would put it up there. And I can move this around. If I go to I got a K, just wait for it to Auto
Save and Save here. And then what I need to do
is go to page number two, which is just here. And I click on that one, and I'll go there again, the sub folder, and I'll
click on page number two. And then that brings
up that one as well. So we wait for that to save, just going to hover
on sourdough safe. And so what you do is just
keep adding all these along. Not sure why that
didn't save just there. Let's try it again. I'll go to the pitcher because the subfolder this is page
number two. I believe it is. And then we just save it. And you'll see it come up. The real page number one was the sign click
on that sub-folder. That's page number one. Actually, page
number one is that one might have an error there. I need to make sure that
I get them in order. And that is how you can do that. And then you save it. And that will go on there. So if I wanted to, I could extend it all the
way to the edges. And then that will
automatically save. So if we save it, just make
sure it keeps saving it. And you keep adding your
pitches all the way through or your manuscript all the way through until you've
had it all done, you can save the project. So that's how you
can do that method of doing a paperback
and the interiors. I might be my preference is to use it for the paperback
and the hardback covers. But I can see why
it's going to be so good to use for the
interiors as well. But if we go back to
the different projects, so if you go to My Projects, it'll save them here. So let's just go back
to the paperback and we can change
things around it just so you didn't have your illustrations already there or your pitches already there. You can add your
different headings. You can do different
shapes, you can add it. If we didn't have
these here at all. We wanted to add our own title. Then we can do that. We can add the different
shapes we want to. It's a little bit more clunky, but are fine to do it. I prefer to use Canva
for my cover designs. But that's not to say
that if you wanted to, you could do a great
job with doing all the different
options with book, Book Studio, which is now
offering all these features. So let's get out of
here and I'll finish up by canceling all
this information here. Let's go back. And I don't want to say this, so we're going to go
back and do it all, which you can do it this
way and then I can save it. So I've got that still there. We have a quick look here. You can, if you right-click, you've got different
options here as well on your mouse that
she can duplicate it. You can bring pitches
to the front. If we go to the page, you can export
different things in, edit these different settings
that you can lock in, and you can go to the keyboard. There are many, many
different features that she can use on
book bolt Studio, so I'll recommend you have
a play around with it. But what I love is that you will create that
template for you based on your calculations of your book with the size
and the page numbers, it'll give you the template. You can then create it here. They can then add
different special effects. You can adjust the images, you can change that background
color if you want to, just make sure you get rid
of the template in the end. But that's a quick little rap or quick little look
at book bolt studio. It is gonna be a
fantastic feature that you can use for the
creation of your book covers. And knowing that you're not
gonna get rejections as well. When you send through
to Amazon API, which I've faced initially
to as you can see, the main portion of book bolt, we do a word search,
ice, and research. All that remains pretty similar. It's the book bolt studio with the cover design
that has changed. So hopefully this
updated lesson will help you to navigate your
way through book bolt. If you choose that
software to help you with your cover creation
and formatting.
20. eBook Formatting and Design: In this lesson, I'm going
to discuss a book covers. Is there much difference
in the y we design an ebook covers to make them
available for customers? Well, the answer is really no. What you need to do is
simply just use your PNG or JPEG file that you created for your paperback
or hardback book. And that is all you
simply need to load onto KP or Ingram spark
or the other platforms. I dropped the digital for your book cover for your e-book. So what we need to do is
just go into Canada and just make sure that it's
the right size and then it's ready to go. The other thing you might
like to do is to create some book or mock book
images like I've done here. Now, all you need to do
is go to the lesson. We're talking about
mock book covers. And I'll show you the
different platforms that I use for developing Mod book
covers in a mock version. And you can actually see
the different options you have to choose from
for your e-books. So this one here was also
developed on book brush and our talk about book brush in the lesson about
mock book covers. All we need to do now to
create credit able cover is simply to go into Canada and just make sure
it's the right size. Because when you do create
your book for a book, or you need to do is use the same dimensions that you've
used for your main cover, for your paperback or hardback. It's quickly just jump onto Canvas now and I'll
show you the process. Let's go back to our
regional front cover. This is the ideal awesome
paper airplanes design cover that are created
during the lesson. Now, what we need to do, if we wanted to load
it to Amazon card API, actually specify that
it must be a JPEG. If I go to the area of kVp
that asks you to launch, we'll cover or to larger kava. It's asking for other JPEG
or tiff file format only. With Canva, they
offer a JPEG format, but it's not necessarily
in a high resolution. So if we go back to Canva, and if we have a look at the
options that we've got here, if we go to download, it says PNG or JPEG, small, small fall saws image. What you can do is still
save it as a pain j, but go to a free converter to
convert it to a JPEG image. So I'll show you how
I do that right now. Now jumped onto a PNG JPEG.com. Now, you can choose many
different free converters. I just googled this one and
this is the one I'm using. But always make sure that
whatever software easy online, it's gonna be Syfy or conversion
and do your own checks. Don't just trust the SWOT
that I'm on right now. I would like you to make
sure you do your own check. However, the easiest with
no issues previously. But what I would
normally do is go to Upload Files and then I will choose my image and then it would convert it
through to JPEG. So let me do that for you. We'll just go to upload files. Let's go to cover sets that
in the PNG file currently. We just white face to upload. Then what we do is download. Then we have the
image brought here. Now it's in JPEG format, and I just need to save
that file into my folder. And then when I go to upload it to Amazon kVp at set to go. So I'll show you
that process now. Now I'm on Amazon kVp. We go down to this one
and we upload a cover. We're going to go to the file. So it is this one
right here because I've cited as a JPEG file. Using that converter. We open it. And now this is going to
upload the cover for us. We just wait patiently
while that uploads. It can take a few minutes to do. And now it's uploaded
successfully. And that's the image you should expect when you're
using your e-book. The other thing you'd need
to do is obviously upload your epoch manuscript to the platform when
you're going through this process so that
it is nice and clear. And you can proceed through to entering all the other details before saving and continuing. If we just go on to
Amazon and we have a bit of a look at the
different a book covers. You can see that this would be exactly the sign
is what you get, for example, as a
paperback or hardback. So if we scroll down here, we at the amount of Kindle
Store at the moment. So if we wrote habits, we went on to, let's just
pick a book down here. This has gone to this one. If we click on this one here, that's the a book
cover that you'd have. Then the audio book
covers usually square, but we haven't discussed
that in this course. Then if you go to Piper
back the paperback book, he's gonna be exactly the sign. But the size of these paperback, if we scroll right down here, is a five by seven or 5.14
by nearly I didn't choose. So it's a four by
eight inch typically. That's and what the book
is going to look like. So it's exactly the
same as I mentioned as the image that we'll be using
for the hardback paperback. It's just the unit and make
sure that it's JPEG image and not a PNG that
Canva provide. You just need to make
sure you convert it across before we upload it to platforms like England, spark, like Amazon, tidy pay
and lock drafted digital. Drafting digital is another
platform you can use as well for your
e-book distribution. If you're publishing a self, but if you're just making
the covers for a client, then you just need to
provide your client with a JPEG image
for the e-book. So I hope that's confirmed some details around the
a book cover design. Really what you're doing is just applying all of
the knowledge and skills that you had done for your paper back
in your heart, back with your cover design. It's just that you're using
the front cover image with your e-book and it
must be in JPEG format. So thank you, and I hope
you enjoyed that lesson.
21. Getting Ready to Upload and Print: In this lesson, we're
gonna be talking about how to get your book
ready for print. Now there are a few different options that we've got here, but it also depends on what
your book cover is for. Is it for yourself to
upload to a platform like Amazon kite API or
is it to provide the file to a client where you might have been
the one that's created, the cover or the design
for someone that you know, what we're gonna be doing is showing you the files that we've now got when we've gone through a process of creating
the book cover. And also I'll show you the
process of when we actually load the book up to
say Amazon card API. And that process, I won't be using a formal manuscript
of just got a manuscript, a blank law and manuscript
of a 120 pages, just so you can see
how the book is loaded when you do
letter to Amazon, kVp. And I'll also show you
the process when you go through something like
Ingram Spark as well. But it's gonna be the same
process that you follow. But what is important is to have the rockfall top ready to go. Now I've gone to my folder, which is the folder
views to save my images and more PDF
documents for upload. And this is what we've been
doing throughout the course. There's actually four here. The reason why I've got four is because to the piper backend, the hardback were
completed on Canada and the other to the paper
back in the back, we can play using book Bolt, which I showed in
the previous lesson. If we have a look at
the hard back in PDF, this is what it looks like. It comes up and we've got
a gap that runs around. We did a spine and
we've got it at the right format
for our back cover. If we go to our Piper
back using Canva, then I'll show you
once it comes up. Here becomes side,
this is my get larger. So this is a paper bag. And again, we've
got the spine a2. That's everything
that we need to show. And then we've got our
book bulk as well. If we're using book boat and
you weren't using Canva, then that would show
a similar thing. It just doesn't have
this spine that our credit on book bulb that you can't do that
if you wanted to. And then the last one was the paperback version
using book bold as well. So it's white police to come up. Again. It doesn't have the
spine using book bulb, but we know it's to the exact specifications
that are x2 quiet when we're
uploading a book, for example, to Amazon kVp, we've got to have four files
and you choose two of them. So you've got your back
and your hardback. Most importantly, digest
need to be the PDF versions. You can't have a PNG
file you upload. It must be PDF, and therefore it will be
accepted when you're doing it. Now these will be applicable if you're sending it through to a printing company
that needs to do bulk orders for you with
your uploading to England, Spark with your uploading it
through to Amazon card API. It's gonna be the
same PDF document that you use, all of them. And it'll have all
the details here. Let's, I'm gonna, I'm gonna show you how you would upload. Let's just do the paperback, how you'd the pipe
back to Amazon KD pay and making sure that everything fits into the
specific actions required. Some of my Amazon
caddy pay count, what I would do that just like Todd cava or the piper back. We're just gonna
do the pipe back. You can do the hardback leader
and you'd need to fill in the details of the
book so quickly, just do something
very quick reminder, I'm not going to be officially
launched in his book. It's more just to
show you the process. So I'll quickly fill nice pij and we'll move to the next page, which is where we will
apply our manuscripts. And I'm on page two now
at the upload process. So I need to choose
the paper I did have when I completed my
cover dimensions. As for a black and white
with white interior. So we leave that, we go down, it's already on the
sixth power and on if you wanted to change it, you just select
different size and you choose a size
that are available. We're leaving at
six by nine blade. Now this is what we're gonna be doing depending
on your interior. Now I've selected blade
with my interior, so I'm just gonna
leave it at blade. And then I usually
whatever choice you want Cassio
usually do for books that covers that again
to be used a lot by journals and things where there's a lot of wear and tear. I tend to use glossy, but that's a personal choice. I'm just going to upload the paperback manuscript now again, it's not the manuscript that
you would use in these book. It's just a blank line just to show you when I
upload the cover, what you what messages you get from Amazon cardiac pain
when you're uploading. So let me just quickly
apply that manuscript. Actually made an error.
I did have blade, sorry, I changed that just here. So it's blade. Now, when we go down here, this is the important part, the book cover, which
this course is all about. What we do here. Upload a caveat already have now
print ready PDF. Finally, we click there and
we click this button here. We go to our cover so we
didn't do a pipe it back. We're going to do
this one just here, which is my pipe it back. It awesome. Paper airplane designs
pivot back faunal. We open and we wipe
for a top load, usually takes a few
minutes to upload, but just let it load and there's another
message that will come up. You just need to make sure
that your patient and wide white dunk go to launch pray viewer until you actually see the front
cover appear here. So let's just wait
for that to appear. Now that we can save the image. And it says cover
uploaded successfully. Now it's time to click
the Launch preview. Now this will tell us
whether this inequality issues in regards to the
Upload uptight or sorry, in regards to the issues for the upload that KPF picked up. Let's have a look. Everything seems to be correct. Now what we need to be
careful of is that there is no writing outside of that red line that runs around any pitches is
okay, that's fine. As long as you
know that there is a chance that a
part of the image, if it's outside the while
loop dotted line here, could be cut off. So you don't want
any images cutoff that beyond that watt law
and that you want to keep. But the rest is perfectly fine. We've got everything implies
and it says that it didn't find issues that will prevent it from submitting a
book for publication. So that works out perfectly. And that's how we do the
upload for CUDA API. And that's why it's important to get all the elements rot. And if you do see any errors, make sure you
rectify them before hitting the approved
button down below. Just to remember to
have your PDF file ready and you can have it
ready by design eating Canada. Or if you want to do it
a bit faster and get all the calculations and
dimensions completed for you. You can use Book bolt, but had that PDF ready
and you can make sure that when you
upload it to Cady pay, it's going to be spot
on and you won't get any rejections when
you do upload it.
22. Publishing Options: In this lesson, I just
wanted to cover off a few different
options you do have in regards to uploading your books. So apart from Amazon, kVp, there are other
platforms like Ingram, spark, Lulu drafted digital. There's even another group
called published drive. But there are plenty
of others that you might like to use. But this course could be
perhaps to upskill yourself, to publish your own books. Or it could be used to outsource your
skills and knowledge on groups or platforms like father or freelancer on Upwork, or just to name a few. These courses can be
perfect for that. Now if you are uploading your covers two
different platforms, then the piper back calculations on the dimensions are
going to be very similar. Or if not exactly, the sign is what kind of a PR. However, there can sometimes be some slight adjustments to what the COVID dimensions are on
platforms like Ingram Spark. Now there are calculators that those platforms do have and
you can use them as well. For example, I will show you the calculator tool that you
can get for Ingram spark. And then I will
e-mail you through a template that you
can then upload into Canva and do exactly what we've just been doing
through this course. So let me quickly show you that. And then when you
get to the point of actually uploading it, I'll show you that pij as well when you do
upload your cover. Once you create an
Ingram spark accounts, what you would do
is go down to help. Then this will give you
an option for the phase. So you go across
here, where is it? It is Kaaba template generator. You click that. They want you to do is
put in all your details. So anything with an asterisk. So you need to include
if we go down here oh, just putting the details, not sure which book they says, We'll just do this one here. Six by nine. And we keep going down so
you get a black and white. We're doing what we're gonna do. Paperback though. We're doing perfect bounds. We're doing gloss. Just keep that as don't even
bother back taking that one. We're going to be doing 120. Follow top. We want to do depends. You might have in InDesign CC and I've got PDF and
I'm just going to put my email address in
here, confirm it. And then we go submit. What this will do now
is send me an email with the cover template that we've been
put on the canvas. And it's nice and simple. It's exactly what we're
doing before in regards to putting the calculations on and spreading it across the page. So that's how you
get the template for for Ingram Spark if you using that to
create your cover. So after that step, you would then get your email and then you'd have
your template. And you can just screen
print that or save it. And then you can load
them into Canada and stretched across the page like we've done
in other lessons. Then you can simply get rid of that template and you've
got the page ready. That's another way you
can use the template from Ingram spark to
upload onto that platform. That's one way you can do it. And also when you're
using drafted digital, Dow had the same template or the same dimensions that we
would have used for ADP. So you can simply just use it STK ADP template and the
sign cava file that you use for uploading the Amazon
card API to upload onto a platform like draft
to digital and even Lulu. So hopefully that's helped you.
23. How to Create a Book Mock-up for Free: Hello and welcome to this lesson about book mock-ups for free. What are they wanted
to do is show you some different ways once you have your book cover to use
it for marketing purposes. This is gonna be important
whether you're designing for someone else or were they
doing it for yourself? So let me show you
some freeways. You can create mock-up covers. Locke, I've got just here. The first way is by using AI
platform called Book brush. Now you can organize a subscription which gives
you plenty of other options, but there are plenty of free
options for you as well. So let me just logging up
here and I'll show you how to do the book
mock-ups for free. Once you've logged in, you
just go to instant mock-ups. And then what you
need to do is drop your image into this
spot just here. So you click here. We go to paper airplane designs. There are a few different
options we can choose from. So we can do square horizontal, we need it because of
the shape of this book. It's either gonna
be vertical or 3D. If it was gonna be vertical, then you can choose
any of these options. And what you do is just
click on your design. And you can see the ones
that are locked in. They can't use those unless you During the
paid subscription. But I'm gonna do the 3D. And this gives us plenty of different options
to choose from. If we scroll down, we can
see the different sorts. If it's an e-book, you can
use it for an e-book if it was a paperback or hardback, there are different
options here as well. If they're a square books, you'd like to do there
as an option for you to. You can look at the different
ones that are there. And what you need to do once
you decide which cover, we might choose this one
just here. We choose it. We scroll down to
here where it says convert now and convert. Now what it does is
just converts that fall for you into
the mock-up version. So we'll just wait for a
second until it converts. Nadh just says Donna, you image. We swipe. And here it is right here. So click that. And
here is the design. So it comes out
really, really, well. I'm very happy with that. And it is a great
3D option for you. So that's option number one. Let's go to our next option. That was called Book brush.com, forward slash,
instant dash mockups. Next one is called
DRY book covers.com. All we need to do is we
choose what color you want. So depends if you've
got a paper back in a book or a hard back. If we choose the hardback, let's just choose this one here. For this one, this example, what we need to
do is go to Next. We go browse, which
is a book cover. We go Open, click, Upload. Wait for it to upload. He's an image. Make sure it's all. There we go. Next, we choose whether we
want a PNG or JPEG. Let's just go JPEG. And now it's gonna download
for us. Here it is down here. Let's open it up. And that one is, you can choose a hardback that
looks really, really good. It's probably going
to be thicker within the a 120 pages are probably
wouldn't use that one. But again, you've got
different options. You can choose from across the different mock-ups
that you wanted to use. You just go back and
choose another option if one of those options wasn't
suitable for you as well. That was called DIY
book covers.com. Next one, we're going
to free book mock-ups. It's called Book in motion.com. What we need to do is
scroll down and have open, see if any of these
would be suitable. There are more to show someone at the
holding it or on a table. Any of these could
be really good. So let's have a look and
see if there's any that might be appropriate for us. We have a look down here. This one might be a good
one, or even this one. Let's choose this one. So we go custom mockup. We'll just wait for these
tickets started to slip the cover image and we go to
our image and narratives. And then what we need to do
is right-click Save Image As we can just go mockup
covers and we can go, We'll just do mock
cover Example. Get rid of that. Save. That image will look
like this. So let's go here. There it is right there. So it looks really,
really good as well. It gives you a good background
and he got the bench or the mantle that you can have your book
sitting on as well. That was that option. Now, the last one is called
place it, place it dotnet. And what I've done is done the mockup featuring
two soft cover books, mock-up placed against
a plain backdrop. What we do, we insert the image, we go upload from your device. Choose our cover. Just make sure it's
fitting into what we want without crop. Then it puts the front
cover right there. Now what we can do, these inserts upload
back cover design. We got here, upload
for me DeVos. He's at back cover,
crop and back cover. So we can use that one as well. So it's a really
good option to do. And then you can
save that as well. So you can choose
different colors. There's all different
things that you can do. That some options for you. You can change different
colors in the background. That pie, then you can get different options for the free account and
these processing as well, just to get rid of these places, logo, things that are
on the page as well. So that's another option
for consideration. And the last one before we go to the conclusion is don't
use in Canada as well. If we go to the main lookup
bar on the top here, we can scroll down and see whether there is something that might be suitable for us. So we just have a bit of a look, see if there's something
that might work. In regards to our book. There might be a lot of
paperback book ones, sorry, e-book options for you. You've just got to go down
and have a bit of a look. But all we do once you've
decided on what you want, then you, for example,
choose this one. Then what we do is upload. We got our image and
place it in there. Sometimes it doesn't fit
exactly as you want. So you need to have
a look for template. It's going to be
working for you. But that's all we
do is just drop it into the zone,
went to that area. You can use up here, just choose different templates that might be working for you. That could be good. And if he just did, if you just wrote in that
top area they book, then it gives you different
ideas here as well for front covers that you
might like to use. Remember, don't copy directly
anything that is on Canva. But you are welcome
to use elements of the templates
here for your books. And that can be
great way to use for your marketing and get different inspiration
from these books too. That's how to do the
3D book mock-up, or even a two-day mock-up, just depends what you want. And they're all really
good options for you to consider about what, what might work well for you. So we've got some these
different ones that we were using before and
decided to choose. And these are very, very effective because it
allows a customer to get a feel for what the bookmark look like in their own hands, on their own bookshelf or
wet or even as a gift. So that's the lesson
about book mockups and using different
platforms for free. There are of course,
different ways you can pay for these mockups
to be created. But off on the free
ones, just as effective.
24. Book Cover Design Project: Now this is going to be
a project-based lesson. What I want you to do is apply the information
that you've been learning throughout
all the lessons. It's as simple as going
ahead and firstly, getting a Canva account, whether it be a free
or paid account. And just start with
doing a little bit of a review on some book
sites like Amazon, kVp, or book type Ia.com, or any of those online
platforms that sell books. Now pick a topic that
you think is gonna be exciting for you
to be able to create. Because when it's exciting and you'll learning it's enjoyable. That's what I want you to do
for your very first cover. If you haven't designed many covers yourself before, Gone, pick a topic and then start to implement those things
that have been taught. Firstly, you need to get the
template upon to Canada. So that might be a
six by nine inch, it might be an eye 0.5 by 11. What it is size you think he's gonna be applicable
for your book cover. Make sure you go to canva
and go to custom design, and then make sure
it's in inches and insert the dimensions
of that book. So NIMART start
with a six by nine, just to get used to
the creation process. Once you've done
your dimensions, you'll get your template
and just start to use the template features
of Canva and do some searches around
the different elements that you'd like to include. Now, remember, get
some inspiration from other book covers. These genes might be a practice. It might not be an
official book like the paper airplane book that I've created as part
of this course. It might just be a book
that you want to create and go through the process
to see how it works, to put everybody into practice. Now these kinds of courses
enriching content. But unless you
apply the content, it's going to be hard
for you to move forward. So please go ahead and
create that template. And remember, you can
also use the kava, kava template generator to help you bring out the template to place
it on a canva template. You can do the front
cover and back cover, just making sure
that you allow for those spaces such as such
as the ISP and area, and make sure that you don't
have any writing that goes outside that red border
line that runs around. Otherwise you face a
rejection from cardiac epi or other book
publishing distributors that you're given
in your book too. These are the things
that I'll want you to do when you're not just doing
this course of mine, but other courses that
you might be doing. Put your knowledge
into practice. Start to go through
the process to learn. Because as soon as you start
applying those skills, you really do accelerate
your learning. And that's the most
important thing, is to move from where you are currently to where
you want to be. And I do hope that these
project where you're actually applying those skills
and getting it formatted. And you might even
like to try book bulb, that might be an option for you if you don't
want to go through that foreign or production
formatting stage that you do with Canva. You can take your front
cover as a pain J and your back cover as a PNG or even a jpeg upload
into book bulb. And then you can just
get them converted and they do all the
calculations for you. The other thing you
might need to do is to work on your manuscripts and
things like that as well. Remember, I do have other
courses in regards to publishing on Amazon
card API and net talks all through the
design element of interiors and how to get
your full book together. If starting with your cover
is your main priority, start with that, and then you might lie to progress to
other things as well. But just make sure you put this into practice now
as your project, as your assignment, get it done, and then save the end results. It's quite exciting
when you get your cover down and you can sit back and look at what you've
actually been all apply from all the information
you've been learning. Get onto the task now and start your very first cover from all the information
you've learned.
25. Course Conclusion: And then actually brings us
to the end of this course. I really do hope
that you've found the steps easy to
follow an interesting, and it's amazing what you can create if you put
your mind to it. Now, the key areas that
I want you to focus on, remember for the course
is to take action, but to go back and to watch
each of the steps carefully. Now, book cover creation
is a lot of fun off on it. Really enjoyable or founded. Something that I can really
put everything into. The same product
can be exciting. Make sure that you give
it everything you've got to create the
best camera you can. Now we all know that people
do judge a book by its cover. And I do hope that
this course has helped you to improve your
design skills, to help you build
that knowledge, you can create your covers, whether they're for yourself, for your own
publishing business or maybe they've been someone else. Maybe you're looking to start a book cover creation business and you can add an outsource your skills to other authors. Think he's so much
remember I do have other courses about publishing that you might be interested in. So if you are
naturally a checkout, my Author, Author page, and you can actually
say there is other courses and learn
more skills and knowledge about publishing and about
making sure that you make the most out of your skills that you
have as a creator. Now, thank you again, I really do hope you've got
a lot out of this course. Thank you for trusting

about book cover creation. And until you see me again in another course, I'll
catch you later on.

in a moment is go to my instructor profile page and show you some of the
other courses that I have. Now, these courses
can take time. You need to make sure that when you are doing these courses, that you're stopping and taking action and applying
the information. Don't just become an
information junkie where you are absorbing information
beaten, not applying it. The most important
thing that I've found along my journey
of creating books and creating courses and
other information and content is that you need to take that critical key action. Now, it's just the first
step you need to take. Then you tend to
get some momentum. Make sure that you're jotting down some of your goals
