1. What you'll learn in Unit 2: Welcome to Unit 2. It's so nice to have you here again. And this unit, we are going to talk about our homes, setting them up and moving from one to the other. Here are just some of the things you will learn in Unit 2. How to correctly use the changeable prepositions with either the data or the accusative. How to say that something is standing somewhere or that something is going somewhere to sell or buy furniture. Talking about your neighbors. We will repeat all we know so far about the data and accusative case. We will also repeat the polite conductivity Tsai, and learn how to make a good suggestion. As you can see, many things to learn and no time to waste. So let's jump right then. 2. 2.01 Der Umzug (The move): At 0. This is potassium. Natalie gate IN Yana moonshine judean. And seed on z had shown ins, tolerate cut fondant. Z is nist cause about on Hen Natalie C to Z hat, we are in the belly in and buy. I buy yet seeds enough mention on z had shown IN a warning, funding and gamete it. Z conduct align a woman above fertilised much dizzy of iron and MIT per Warner order, MSBA warn of unfinished when z is not nationalization. About Devonian is 0 sugar and our seamless course z is in spite in stock In einem whole house. I skipped auf einen. I'll talk about in Vietnam Italian niche, Cao Huan Zhi can be happening even. Z hat I encloses wound CEMA as Zia hell owned a memorial. Field is on. The cushion, is glycine even. Skip to that soon oxide CEMA, I incline us on to iron causes and I embodied soma. Much Usha does best is z hat auf einen Balkan. The varName is an INR Zou, paul logger and Danny are formed sand. And our UX bunch dots here on Natalie seat by z. And our university it in mentions to Dionne, Mr. does this ionized their best and endocrine gland. Z, z, z i in place. Then the cannon learn and TLS in a party muffin. 3. 2.02 Wohin kommt der Sessel? (Where does the armchair go?): Natalie, C to Z will feel fun. Name and find his own SOC. Hello, is Sienna mentioned on the ends, helped me? Hey, Natalie, possesses state here in diameter. Ones are listings. So Stalin, Teller dense ESL button even does fence time. By uneven them fence, touch the throne debtors standard intestine and even detour. By nibble and dare to overstate the lambda. The lambda uneven does click on the bus MIT ambition to have. So feel a Boucher de ligand gets the ala of the embed. A stellar industry God about Indian Playgirl is shown there. Spiegel, then stylish than Spiegel nib and does bet by nib and embed. Is there hang stellar speaker dan, I'm for how psychomotor on who does build hanger does build on-demand Hubert aspect about you, but embed Hank shown d lambda. Then instead us build better off TQM order of their promoter state. It's their Spiegel. These are worn longest, einfach, so cline. Okay, let's analyze the conversation because maybe you noticed something a little bit weird happening. Tell densa cells. Me, Ben does fence about nib and dim fence starch the throne. They attach dentist than a nib and D2. About nib and dare to your state, D lambda. Y is the articles suddenly magically changing and what is happening here. You will find out all about it in the next lesson. 4. 2.03 Wechselpräpositionen, Teil 1 (Changeable prepositions, Part 1): Okay, So this will be one of the parts of the German grammar where you will sometimes just have to ask why German? Why are you doing this to us? So I hope that you have a little bit of patients for this lesson and don't freak out if it doesn't go completely smoothly right from the beginning. So please relax and try to trust me that I will get you through it. So that being said, I present to you the German changeable prepositions. As you saw in the last lesson, sometimes the case will suddenly change, although the preposition stay the same and the sentence just slightly changed. Like we had here, for example, cell bitten nib and thus fence stuff about nib and the infant's touched each on their tissue or done she does build, but often Tish about auf dem tissue state yets divisor. The prepositions States this same nib and whatever. But something must have changed, right? Because the case changed. Nib and thus fence the knee been deem fenced off Dane Tish. I'll deem What is it? Can you see it maybe. Do you know maybe which cases we use? Thus fence data, Dame fan STA, thus fence that is accusative and deem fence that is data. Then Tish is accusative and deem test data. But why is this happening when we have the same preposition in front of it, DO whole time. Like the title of our lesson already said, we are going to learn that changeable prepositions, D, voxel preposition C11. They are called like this because they can change the case they're going with. Sometimes they will go with the accusative case and sometimes with the data. And the only difference will be whether it is moving or not. This may sound very similar now, but it's true. Look, Stele, it ends as cell button nib and thus fence to put the arm chair next to the window. There is a movement involved. Putting the armchair is traveling next to the window. It's moving in the direction of the window. So the window is in the accusative. And please, excuse my ridiculous drawings. I know that something is way out of perspective at the armchair. It was a quick drawing to help you understand. And then we have nib and infants sta states that is next to the window is or is standing the desk. It's standing there, not moving. So it's stage of I know that this can be very confusing. So to make it more clear, I am going to include a few examples from a course about the German cases where my dog yoga helped me to explain the concept. 5. 2.04 Wechselpräpositionen, Teil 2 (Changeable prepositions, Part 2): The most important question and this lesson will be, is it moving or not? The vaccine opposite C11 or changeable prepositions or two-way prepositions are in our nib and Hinter, UBA on top for submission. And all of these prepositions are local ones, meaning that they will tell us the location of something. Let's explain each of them. Auf, meaning on, and in this case, it's on a flat surface. You'll realize later why I mentioned this. Is auf dem Tish. Nib pen. Next to the bile is a nib and their tasks Hinter behind. The hairball is hinted embed. Riba above. Thereby is IBA demand in meaning, well, in there is any minor hand into below. Double its own tied him Tish. Four in front of their bile is, for them honed. Solution between the bile is the tuition, the marooned on the Mir and, and meaning on. But in this case, it's on a vertical surface like the wall or the blackboard. Does bid, is an avant. All of these sentences are in the data, but all these prepositions can also be used with the accusative case. Remember what we said, two-way prepositions or changeable prepositions. Let's see what the sentences would look like in the accusative. Each name in the hand. Initially you get them back. Often Tish, extended imbalance, nib and detests. They are fed him. Uber den haunt, hinted us bet. Hva are fed him on TED into ish. Extended symbol for iodine hand. If ligand and BAL session then hold on. The mesh is hanged as built and the dividend. I hope you noticed the differences and these sentences. We use the date of case with these prepositions. If the object, in this case the ball was just standing there, it was static and not moving. But if the ball was moving, changing its location and position, it was in the accusative case. We can try to remember it this way. Dating has the question vivo, meaning, where we will draw our target here. Something is in a specific spot. It's static, it's data. And acquisitive will be VO Hin. Where to. Accusative means action. Something is moving. We can draw an arrow here showing the action and the movement. All clear. Let's look at some more examples. Thus, glass state auf dem Tish. Here it's static and it's the date of case Them dish a stellar dust glass out of DNA Tish. In this case, it's moving. And that's why in the accusative, they are honed. Ist auf dem bet. The dog is quite static here. He's on the bed. So data, their hand cranked out despot. In this case, the dog is moving and that's why in the accusative, the hairball is in a minor hand. Here is quite static. That's why data is she named the imbalance in mind and hand. Here, the ball is changing its position and that's why accusative. This thing usually causes some trouble for learners. But I think that it's actually quite straightforward and easy to understand. And action accusative just being their data. Remember that this concept applies only when these specific prepositions don't confuse. Now, every sentence with a little movement with accusative, or every time something is standing somewhere with the data, just with these prepositions. 6. 2.05 Verb + Präposition + Kasus (Verb + preposition + case): So by now you learned that there are some tricky prepositions which will sometimes go with the data and sometimes with the accusative case. And you get it that with a dative it will be static and with the accusative, there will be some movement involved. To make it a little bit easier for you, just by taking a look at the verb, you will often be able to determine whether its movement or not, meaning which case to use. In this lesson, we will learn some of the often used verbs used with the vaccine opposite C11, and which case they will require. The verb can help us. So lots to determine whether it's static or moving, because, well, the verb tells us whether it's static, we're moving. And these verbs will often come in pairs. The first pair we will use will be stellen und Dann. Two similarly looking verbs that will mean a slightly different thing and ask for a different case. In means to put or to place. And as the meaning of the verb tells you by itself, it's going to be a movement. So stellen to put plus voxel, preposition plus acquisitive. For example, a stellar dust boot, often Tish. I placed the book on the table. Tisch. Accusative or Airtel to the slang certainly been does Fen sta, he puts the plant next to the window. Does Fan stuff accusative or via stellen, the mobile industry, CEMA. We put the furniture in the room. Thus CEMA, acquisitive. In all these situations, something is moving somewhere next to something in something or on something. And that second something is in the accusative. And its counterpart is going to stand, or sometimes translated simply as to be. So, although these two verbs sound quite similar, they actually mean a completely different thing. And we'll go with a different case. Stand to stand, plus Vg. So preposition plus d2. Thus both of them Tish or deep flank state, may bend them, fence or steer emphysema. Yeah, it does finish. And remember that M is actually includes theme contracted. Okay, if all of this is clear, let's take a look at another pair and ligand. Ligand to lay or also to put or place and action. So going with the accusative, a Schlager Dust Bowl, often Tish, I am laying or putting the book conduct table. Just so you see it can be used sometimes similarly, like Stellan, the cow licks skinned and thus bit later, these are shrunk. And its counterpart is going to lie. Not to lie like Kali, not say that truth, but why? Lie down? It's just laying there so it's static, so it yes, data. Thus bool leaped off Tim, Tim. The book is lying on the desk. You are not reading it as just laying there. This one is similar to stay and it can be standing or lying somewhere. That skinned, leaked, embed. Mom put it to bed in the last example. So now it's lying and hopefully sleeping. The kilometer legal nib and embed. So if someone is not very tidy, this may seem silly, but we will also mentioned the verb xi1 to be the verb itself. We'll go with the date of case when used with vaccine composites you want and why? Well, it tells you that something is there. It's not moving anywhere. Does book is auf dem dish. The cow is in, there. Isn't knee bending cuboidal. One verb that will often be used in these examples, but that won't tell us exactly which case it goes with is hanging. To hang. It can mean boat that you are hanging something. The actions so acquisitive, but also that something is hanging, it's hanging there. So data, since that in both cases the verb will look the same. So we want know which case it goes with. We will have to look at the exact meaning of the sentence. Does bend, Hank and DevOps. The picture is hanging on the wall. A hanger thus bit on-demand. I'm hanging the picture on the wall. See the first sentences, weather data and the second one that the acquisitive. So here are the verbs we mentioned one more time. Just keep in mind that these are just a few which I think might be useful. Feel free to look for and discover other useful verbs that you want to use. And feel free to ask if you have problems with any of them or are not exactly sure how to use them correctly. So we had with the accusative, again, hanging with the data design and also hanging. 7. 2.06 Rein, raus, rauf (In, out, up): When come to D bloom up between Z Rhine indices TMA on the forehand gate there, moon thing in the gauss, buy-in vows or into or UEBA. In this lesson, you will find out what to do with these and others. Similar, silly sounding words. There are fewer strange sounding, but very useful words in German. They will be used to tell us the direction of movement. Let me explain. Comes from the word hacker house, which means out. In German, is used to tell us that something or someone is or should go out named in middle of our take the trash out. It gets Klaus, I'm going out now. A clumped glacier house. He'll be out in a second around MittMedia outwards you meaning get out is the opposite of house, meaning in, as in, coming in or going in. Comm line. Come on in. As this cut, we again vine. It's called, we're going and SQL Rhine. I want an dass es telecom TEA vine. The armchair goes here inside the valve and the quanta. These two mean to go up and down. 12 is up and Honda is down. And you can see the similarities with some of the vertex v already learned, like auf into, on and below the Gatehouse on Toronto. The pressure goes up and down. V isn't open, often Balkan conduct 12. Here is this Mitsuko SK quanta AIR gated South. And VIA again junta, he's going up and we're going down. Maybe you already noticed the biggest difference between vows, GYN of alpha and verts similar to them like ours IN, OUT or is that our, our accrue, Gauss Klein and others will be used when something is going or moving or being moved in that direction. So it will always include a dislocation from one place to another. Also, they don't ask for an object. They already tell us the direction. And that is enough, which is great because you don't have to think about the case. So for example, thus, Kent is on Todd inbound. The kid is under the tree with the day to day Baum not moving right? Or come r1A, come down. Movement is involved. You should come down and we don't need an object in any case. Tells us enough down. The last one we will mention here is really about o. U bar means over. Lake, for example, come up, come over, or UBA. Move over, slide over. Html, riba. I'll go over there. And here is a little additional trick. If you want to be even more specific about these verts, you can expand it like this here, here, or hint there. So for example, that UBA over here, who UEBA means over here, and Hindi means over there. Or would have auf up here, hin auf up there. So here will be moving in the direction closer to here or towards the speaker. And hin, moving in the direction away from here or more away from the speaker. That's why you will also often hear Common Z. Have I come inside or more specific combo here inside or escape his house? I'm going outside. Outside, they're away from you. All. These versions help you to be extra specific, but the location and direction of the movement. So here are the words we mentioned one more time. If rouse out the Rhine in a valve up on top down and UBA over there. And we also mentioned the extra helpful and specific prefixes, hen, over here and over the mountains. 8. 2.07 Möbelanzeigen (Furniture ads): D and psi means add. And the movable is, I hope you already know furniture. So in this lesson we will take a look at a few mobile and Tiger furniture ads. So here we are at eBay client and Sidon, which literally means little ads. Let's see what types of furniture ads we can find here. Could shoot. So phaco often via fair Calvin on Southern Christian by via on CNN. The CATIA is benign and Gooten source stand on the carpet. Inclusive electrode aerator, crew shrunk medical clear. The church Pula on head back often. Cushy. Second phase is 400 bar. Let's check some of the verbs we have here. Fair cow often is of course, to sell. One CAN, we mentioned this is to move. And we have a vial because we are selling, because we're moving VFA cow often via, via OMC. And the verb is at the end of the sentence because of while, right? Then we have, in einem Gooten social bond means in a good state or in a good condition. Niche is nothing is broken. Kaput, broken. Inclusivity is something you will often see in ads. It means including, were included. And here we have a lot of kitchen appliances you hopefully already know, like dad, QD shrunk, does give free alpha. They are the xiache Beulah, their head, and their back. Often price is 400 bar is also something you will often see in ads, which means that the price is negotiable. You can try to lower it a little and hopefully get it for cheaper. You can see that when people are writing ads, they're not very poetic. Sentences are short and stretch to the point. And they're basically just trying to say the information as simple and as fast as possible. So don't be worried if you see very short sentences, maybe without verbs or other parts missing. That's the way to do it here. Okay, let's check out another add. This one is for a couch and armchair. Zafar on Xofigo as tau slept, on diagnosis visits and on Shaphan. Is Zach and nucleus. Man become Dao or circus. And that's all set to ODA Einstein, mHealth, lish, zag would Haydn, niche cow per household. This was short. Here's some of the vocabulary. Eigen, to be suitable for something. It was that UBA common to get something whether it's something additional. Him set meaning in a set or some individual or separate. Yeah. Headless available. Good, a heightened similar meaning as in Gooten sushi brand, meaning in good condition. And something that will also often come up in ads for some specific things. Niche cow household, non-smoking household. I know nobody's selling furniture with pictures this nice and adds, but it's the only ones I have, so let's just pretend. Okay. The next one is called Don't call Cloud Komodo, dark gray cabinet for coffee, Dunkin color, commodify or one CMA or dash laughs a moment, hi cause and shrub Latin. Macias huts were convinced. Novartis and owner FAFSA. Guys, now I'm biofilm. So here we had D-sharp bladder. This is a useful word we still haven't mentioned. I think it means drawer. Thus, how would my CVS halts? It's solid or massive report count been noticed, almost not used at all. Calm means hardly, barely or rarely. Novartis is another word that will tell us the state of something. No advantage, meaning almost like new. The cut, our scratches, so on a cut without them. And also something often seen in ads. Clients, not fair I in bio Hong Kong is an agreement or deal. So this means that the price can be agreed upon. Next, add arbeit sluggish. For calcium ion, an ion arbeit sluggish, relish and denying a cough Taba. Hundreds the moon from sixth centimeter, quieter, 100 centimeter, her fishtail Bonn. In Germany, we use the centimeter and meter as unit of measurement for the size of something. And although in German, it's dad centimeter, the short version will be CME as it is in English. So here we have Langer, length, width, and height. And fetched Alba means adjustable. And our last ad for today, collider shrunk. I'll talk cause satellite or shrunk. Households. Midsize sheep to your client a bugle bed and that's who fake-out, MIT, giggling and gcloud above fall from tunes fish, Z sub Holland and Evan Toile de Montage movement dish. So in German, we say households, which literally means from what? She bacteria is a sliding door. She means to push or to slide that. Sophia coughed, we already said something is sold, vetted. Clyde a bugle are the clothes hangers, You know, this thing. The gcloud for our traces of usage and giving means little or small. Food zones. Fish is functional. Zips up hula is something that will often be seen with big pieces that are being sold. It means that you have to come and pick it up yourself and arrange everything about it. And even to alert the montage, meaning that it's possible you will have to dismantle it, whether it being too heavy or maybe not fitting through the door. I hope that this can help you to find everything you need for your apartment or maybe to sell all the stuff you are not using anymore. 9. 2.08 Die Nachbarn (The neighbours): Let's say that you are expecting a package and you know that you won't be home to get it. You want to ask your neighbors to take the package for you. In this lesson, we will learn how to be extra polite with your neighbors and ask them for a little favor. Here is the friendly note Natalie left for her neighbors. I hope you can read her handwriting. Hello Lee been upon my enamel is not wholly owned. Hba1c coalition. The wound via B and Sidon stock IN gets on. It's hubba, I'm gonna kind of Bhutanese Hotez ALL IN package. And it had been me, I didn't launch tool bashed out about each binominal agonists to house the Clintons EBIT or does packet for Michigan. Even since Natalie was so polite, I'm sure their neighbors will have no problems and taking her package for her. Let's check out some phrases and expressions she used. First, let's just mention the most important word of this lesson, which is of course, the Nakba, the Nakba Lun De Nussbaum. And here are some other ones. No Analyst recently and yes, it's closely connected to the noise, which means new insight and stock on the second floor. But you already notice, right? And remember the German ordinal numbers there AS steady, it's vital that they have fear to defind FTA and so on. They get the ending t. And then after 20 the ending stay, they had sciencey stuff. That's fine. Try say stead unknown fields each step. Remember it. Great. I CAN to move in. And we also have CN to move and CAN to move out. Remember that all these verbs are separable verbs. H or H been OEM gets organ. Each bin OEM gets older. Age. It's been outskirts organ. Z, C, z is the ion gets all. The bit, is a request or plead I in a bit uneven them to have a request for someone. For example, here, Natalie says a Shabbat in a bit and z thus packet, the package, thus packet, so uncommon, the package should arrive and check this out. I'm packet fear miss a package for me. A hub and Mia, I know extolled by Mia, miss, miss me. What's the difference? Remember the pronouns in the different cases. Miss is in the accusative and MEA in the data. Fewer. Miss for me, habit, me rubbish tells I ordered for myself. And just a few more bearish talon to order next to house design to not be at home. Thus packet you by Neyman to take or to accept, in this case the package and content z better. Could you please? Here we used the cognitive XVI of the modal verb canon. Hello. My name is not wholly owned. A spinless in the womb. Fear be M cyclin stock IN gets on it. How about I neckline of Bhutanese cytosol? I'm package fur mich Ich habe mir uninstall bashed out. It's been anathema to organists, to Hausa. Continuity better does packet for Michigan even. 10. 2.09. Könntest du? (Could you?): As we saw in the last lesson, it's very important to maintain good relationship with your neighbors because you will have to share some things and sometimes even help each other out. In a good habit. Sijang, Sudan enough ban hub and to have a good relationship with or towards your neighbors. Let's see what are some of the ways to be polite when talking to the neighbors and how to ask them for a little neighborly favor here and there. Let's see how Natalie would ask her neighbors for a simple favor. Contest to me a bit timid. These Acosta here have Clinton's EMEA better, the Noma, foam house, my stuff, VBN. Father couldn't save life. Minor blooming diesen. She used the modal verb Conan in the quantitative side, translated as could you? Let's quickly repeat what that looks like in the question sentences. Quinta is, could I? Yeah, sounds maybe a little bit weird, but let's just mention it for the sake of the conjunction or if you'd like to talk to yourself, close. Thus VAB, I'm NDA does that says the verb at the end of the sentence because Cornyn is still a modal verb and demands that contest to Could you come to a a z or S? Content via content, yeah. Content z or the formal version, content z. So we will have Clinton's EMEA Health fun or Quintus to me adenoma given or contains AID bloom and Gleason. Natalie invited a few of her friends over to celebrate moving into her new place, but they were maybe a little bit too loud, so one of the neighbors came to complain and ask them to be quieter. Quantity a bit allies design. The better the mosaic lies are stellen can to deorbit a niche so loud. Again, here we use the modal verb colonel in the active site. And of course, the verb is at the end of the sentence. 11. 2.10 Vorschläge machen (Making suggestions): In the last lesson, we saw how to ask someone for a favor or had to tell someone what to do or what not to do. In this lesson, we want to explore how to make suggestions about things you could do together with someone. Volume via does Lenin lessons Lenin, wie man einen flash-lag MAFFT. If you paid attention in the intro, you already saw that two main ways to make a suggestion we are going to mention here, vol and via meaning should we, and lessons. Let's, it will mostly be used with the first-person plural vi, because you are asking your inviting someone to do something together with you. Let's see how to build these sentences. Lessons CAN VDS is that's a burden. Volume via habitat. So Xamarin Show women gain volume via fertilized IN a Pitt cyber stellen, Weil, and via Vitamix.
