1. Welcome to the Class: When we talk about watercolors, it's an artistic medium that you can explore in a lot of ways. I personally love
the vibrant colors and the unexpected
output that we get. In the end, it's a medium
that anyone can explore. Everybody, myself,
Ruthwick Patel, I'm a self taught
independent artist and an interior
designer by profession. You can find most of my artworks being displayed on Instagram. I go by the name Shatraj Artisan as someone who's very much
passionate about teaching, my major focus is always
to create classes for beginners who are
trying to develop their skills on a regular basis. In this class, we
are going to paint ten beautiful
watercolor landscapes using the medium of watercolors. It's going to be a ten
days art challenge, which includes ten
beautiful mini paintings using simple and easy
techniques to paint. The class is absolutely
suited for beginners. Before we start with
the class projects, we're going to learn about all the art supplies in detail. I'll be giving you
all the details about the colors that
we are going to use. We're going to talk about the brushes that we
are going to use. All the ten paintings includes different
color combinations. We're going to learn
about the color palette and the color
combinations in detail, which we are going to use
in each and every painting. The color palette will
help you a lot to understand the color
combination in detail. Before we start with
all the class projects, we are also going
to have a simple practice session in which we are going to learn about
all the elements and how to paint them in detail. There are going to be
different slots that we are going to paint using
solid black color. The practice sheet will
help you a lot to develop confidence and enhance
your painting skills. Also, it becomes a part
of your art journal. We are going to start by cutting an six size paper into
a perfect square. We're going to learn
about how to apply the masking tape on
all the four sides of the watercolor paper
so that we can get a beautiful white
border when we remove them. The first step
basically includes creating a vibrant
background using different techniques
like gradient effect and an abstract background
using watercolors. We're going to paint
some beautiful sellouts. Creating some
amazing landscapes. In case you are somebody
who is trying to explore watercolors
for the first time, the class is absolutely
suited for you. I'm very happy and
excited to share this class with all of
you without any delay. Grab your art supplies and join me in this
creative journey.
2. Art Supplies: Everybody. Now let
us learn about all the art supplies that you will need for this
particular class. No need to worry at
all in case you're missing out on any
particular art supply. You will find it very easily in any nearby local
art store or you can go for any other good
alternative as well. The first art supply is
basically a simple masking tape. It's basically a paper tape only which we are
going to use to apply on the borders of the
entire watercolor painting, that when we remove it, we
get a nice white border. Then next up, we have the
most important art supply, which is basically the brushes
that we are going to use. As you can observe
for the entire class, you will only need
three brushes. The first one is a quill
brush of size zero. The second one is another
quill brush of size two. The last one is basically a
round brush of size three. In case you do not
have a quill brush, you can definitely go
for round brush as well. Then next up, we have
a simple pencil to draw a basic sketch if
required in the class project. Then the next art supply is a simple ruler, you can observe. It's a simple plastic
ruler which is having readings in
centimeters and inches. We are going to use
this ruler to cut an six size paper into
a perfect square. Then I have a simple tissue
paper which we can use to dab the brushes to remove axis
amount of water and color. You can already observe I
have a lot of color on it. Now comes one of my
favorite art supply, which is basically a
color palette which have these beautiful
sections and which I have taken out my watercolors. So you can observe, we have a separate space for
mixing the colors as well. No need to worry
at all in case you do not have this
particular color palette, you can use a simple
color palette as well. Then I have a
simple wooden board on which we are going to
place the watercolor paper. In case you do not
have a wooden board, you can use a simple
writing pad as well, or your desk surface
on which you work. The reason behind using a different board for placing
the watercolor paper is so that you can move it
in different directions to get a proper hand
movement while painting. Now let us learn about all the water colors that
we are going to use. The first one is a simple
black and white color. As you can observe, I'm missing
out on watercolor tubes. That's why I'm going to
use watercolor tubs. Now, I have placed all
the watercolor tubes in a systematic manner. Let me give you the
details of all the colors. The first color
is Prussian Blue. Then we have deep green, light green, gambage
and crimson. No need to worry about having the exact shade of the color. You can go for any other
good alternative as well. Then I have another
batch of watercolors. Let me give you the details about these watercolor
tubes as well. Here I have the first color, which is orange, Celine blue, bal blue, ultramarine
purple, and Vermilion. Again, I would like to tell you that no need to worry about the exact shade you can go for any other good
alternative as well. These are all the
water colors that you will need for this
particular class. Now let's talk about the watercolor paper that
we are going to use. The size of the
watercolor paper is six and it is 300 GSM. Right now, you can observe that the watercolor paper is
in a rectangular shape, but we are going to cut
it into a perfect square. It's a very easy
and simple step. We are going to use a simple
pencil and a ruler simply, we are just going to remove the extra part to make it
into a perfect square. You can observe all the
ten watercolor paintings, which are in a
simple square shape. Now if you observe carefully, this is a simple practice
sheet that we are going to create before starting
all the class projects. Now to create this
particular practice sheet, we are going to use watercolor
papers of size five. It is, again 300 GSM. In case you do not have the watercolor paper of size five, it is absolutely fine. You can use your art journal
or a practice sheet, or even a rough scrape of paper. Then we have the
last art supply, which is a simple container, which is having some clear
water so that we can clean up the brushes and add a little bit of water
wherever required. These are all the art supplies
that you will need for the entire class in case you're missing out on any
particular art supply. No need to worry
at all, you can go for any other good alternative. Now let us move
towards the next part.
3. Color Palette: Everybody, before we start
with all the class projects, let us learn about the
color palette in detail. If you observe carefully. I have a simple sketchbook in which I have marked
the colors that we are going to use and the color combination that
we are going to create. I've mentioned the name of the colors that
we are going to use. No need to worry at all in case you're missing out on
any particular color. You can go for any
other good alternative. It is absolutely fine. On the right hand side, you can observe that I'm ready
with my color palette. And it is basically a
simple color palette, having separate sections in which you can take out
colors very easily. And there is a mixing
space as well. You can use a simple
color palette as well. It is absolutely fine. Now, the reason behind
why I'm showing you the color palette
in detail is so that you can know the
exact application of the particular color
on the watercolor paper. The first color that we are
applying is cadmium orange. You can just simply take your
quill brush of size zero, add a little bit of
water into the color, and simply apply a small patch just above the
name of the color. Now I'll be cleaning
my quill brush in clear water as
you can observe. And we'll be taking the second
color which is vermilion. You can observe in
my color palette. I'm trying to add
a little bit of water so that we can
loosen the color up, but make sure that you do not
have axis amount of water. It will decrease the
saturation of the color, mix it well with
your water color. Try to have a good
consistency of water and color together
so that you can get a nice saturation
of the color onto the watercolor
paper you can observe. Again, I'll be
applying a small patch of vermilion just
above its name. Now this is how you can know the exact application
of the color onto the watercolor paper
and you can get a nice difference between
all the colors together. Now let us move towards the
next color, which is purple. I'll be just cleaning
my quill brush again, and I'll be taking
a little bit of purple from the color palette
and applying its patch. Now let us move towards
the next color, which is ceuline blue. You can observe a beautiful, vibrant patch of
eruline blue as well. Again, we'll be cleaning
the quill brush and I'll be taking some
bal blue this time. Whenever you find
that your water color is a little bit stiff, you can definitely
add a little bit of water to make it a
little bit loose. It is very important to get a nice saturation of
the color so that the painting can look
a little bit more vibrant and
aesthetically appealing. You can observe that I
have applied ultramarine, which is the last color
on the first section. Now let us move towards
the bottom part, which is Prussian blue. Again, I have applied a nice
patch of Prussian blue. This particular step is
very satisfying and you'll definitely enjoy creating
a beautiful color palette. Now I'll be taking
some light green, as you can observe, and I
have applied its patch. Similarly, we are going to apply dark green patch as well. Once you apply all
the colors together, you can create some nice
combination of colors together. As you can observe, I have applied dark green
color patch as well. Now we are left with gambage, crimson and black color. I have applied the patch
of gambage as well. Now I'll be applying
some crimson. You can just observe
in the color palette. I'm adding a little bit of water to loose in the color up. And then we have the last
color which is black. You can take a little bit of black color from
the watercolor tab, add a little bit of water, and apply its patch
just above its name. Now you can observe that I have applied all the color patches. And these are all the
colors that we are going to use in all the ten
watercolor paintings. Now let us paint the
color combinations. The first color combination
is crimson and orange. You just have to
apply crimson in one side and then clean
your quill brush. Take some orange
in it and you have to apply the orange
in the second half. You can observe in this
particular class project, we have two colors, and it is in a good combination
of orange and crimson. This is how we are
going to create a good color combination. It is not at all
compulsory that you create a color combination in the exact same way I'm
creating right now. You can create your own
color combination as well. Now we are going to create a color combination of
crimson and purple. In the first half, I have applied an nice
patch of crimson, and in the second half I
have applied some purple. In this particular
class project, you can observe a beautiful combination of these two colors. Then next up we have a
beautiful combination of orange and gambage. I'll be taking my
quill brush and add a little bit of
water into orange. So in the first half, I have applied some
nice saturated orange. In the second half, you're
going to apply some gambage. You can observe a
beautiful gradient effect from orange to gambage. In this particular
class project, you can observe this
beautiful color combination. Now next up we have a
beautiful combination of dark green and light green. Together, I'll be
taking my quill brush. Add a little bit of water
into the dark green color. Apply dark green patch
in the first half, and then simply clean
your quill brush. Now we'll be adding a
little bit of water into light green in
the second half, you can just simply
apply light green. Now again, this is a
simple dark combination of colors together and you can observe it in this
particular class project. Then next up we have a
beautiful color combination of purple and bal blue. I'll be taking my quill brush. I'm adding a little bit
of water in purple. In the first half we'll be applying a good patch of purple. Now simply clean
your quill brush and add a little
bit of water into the bal blue color and apply it in the
second half portion. Now in this particular
class project, you can observe this
beautiful combination of both the colors together. Then we have the last
color combination, which is Prucian
blue and Cobalblue. I'll be taking my quill brush, add a little bit of
water into the color, and apply the Prucian blue
color in the first section. Then in the second
half, we are going to apply some nice cobalblue. We're done with all the
color combinations. As you can observe, it is not
at all compulsory that you make the color
combinations according to the color combinations that
I have created right now. You can create your own
color combinations as well. That is the purpose of a
beautiful color palette. Now using these
color combinations, we are going to create
ten beautiful paintings. Let me take you a little
bit closer so that you can observe all the
details carefully. The color palette will help you a lot to understand
all the colors in detail and to create some beautiful color
combinations together. For reference, you will
find the color palette. In the resources section, I hope that you've
got an exact idea of all the water
colors that we are going to use in this
particular class and its color combinations. Now let us move
towards the next part.
4. Lets Practice the Elements: Hey everybody. Before we start with all the
class projects, let us practice all the elements and how to paint them in detail. If you observe the
practice sheet carefully, you can observe two
types of backgrounds which we are going to
paint using watercolors. One is an abstract background. Another one is a
gradient effect. The practice sheet will help you a lot to develop
confidence while painting, and the chances of making
mistakes will be very less. As you can observe on
my desk, I'm having an, A five size watercolor paper, which is a rectangular
form of a paper. In case you do not have an, A five size of watercolor paper, you can go for any rough
scrape of paper or a practicing art journal in which you practice
on a regular basis. We are basically
going to start by learning about two
types of backgrounds. One is going to be an abstract background
using watercolors. Another one is going to
be a gradient background. Now in order to get a nice
difference between both, I'm going to use a masking tape. You can observe I'm placing one masking tape on
the topmost portion. No need to hurry
at all. Just take a simple piece of masking tape. Apply it on the topmost portion. Make sure that your tape is
parallel to the paper edge. Then I'll be taking another
piece of masking tape and I'll be placing it just in the middle portion of the
entire watercolor paper. Now you might be wondering
why we are applying a masking tape on the
watercolor paper. It is because so that we can get a beautiful outline when we
remove the masking tape, and the backgrounds will
look very much proper. Similarly, we are going to place two masking tapes on either
side of the watercolor paper. I have placed one on
the right hand side. Similarly, I'm going to place another one on
the left hand side. Once you put your masking
tape onto the paper, just apply a little bit of
pressure using your thumb or a finger so that the tape can get stuck to the
paper in a proper manner. We have applied the masking
tape all the four sides, but I'm going to place one masking tape in
the center portion, since the masking tape
is a little bit thick. So you can just
simply use a pair of scissor and make
it a little bit thin in case you want to
place the exact masking tape, which is around 1 ". That is also absolutely fine. I have just decreased
the size of the masking tape and I'm placing it in the center portion. Once you have placed it
in the center portion, apply a little bit of pressure. Now you can observe we have
separated two sections. In both the sections,
we are going to learn about two different
types of background. This will also help you to understand both the
backgrounds in detail. Right now in front
of you, you can observe two different
class projects. One is having a beautiful
abstract background, another one is having a
beautiful gradient background. This is how we're
going to create a difference between
both the backgrounds. Let's start with the first
abstract background. I'm going to use my
Quill brush of size two. And we're going to
apply a thin coat of water on the first surface. As you can observe, no
need to hurry at all. Try to apply a thin coat of water in a very slow
and steady manner. Make sure that there
is no space left between the masking tape
and the watercolor paper. Now this is basically known
as a wet on wet technique, in which we apply a thin
coat of water initially, and then we apply the
water color so that the watercolors can blend
in a very natural manner. Now I'll be using my
Quill brush of size two. And in the color palette
as you can observe, I've taken some darker
values of purple. Make sure that you have
a good consistency of water and color together. Now you can observe carefully. I have just applied
some random strokes leaving some white
space in between. That is how the background
becomes a little bit abstract. Now just simply clean your
brush in clear water. Now we are going to
take some good amount of cerreline blue in the brush and you
can observe that I'm applying it in
the remaining spaces. And still there are
a little bit of white spaces in between
and it is absolutely fine. Now slowly apply it from the bottom portion and move
towards the above part. Now you will observe
that the colors will blend in a very
natural manner. No need to hurry at all. Try to do this particular step in a very slow and
steady manner. You can use the tip of
your quill brush to apply these little strokes
in between as well. Now, if you observe these
two class projects, we have used the abstract background technique
in both of them. Now let us learn how to paint a beautiful gradient background. But this time we're going to
divide it into two parts. I'm going to take
a simple pencil and I have drawn a horizon line. This is going to differentiate between a water body
and the sky area. Again, I'll be taking my
Quill brush of size two. Simply apply a thin coat of
water above the horizon line. First, we're going to
paint the sky area first. No need to hurry at all. Try to apply an even coat of water. Now observe in the
color palette, I'm going to take some darker
values of crimson, red. Make a good consistency
of water and color together so that you can
get a nice saturation. And simply apply a
horizontal stroke just above the horizon line. No need to hurry at all. You can simply observe the
movement of Micuilbrush. It's a simple
horizontal movement and we are not covering
the entire area. We are leaving some space
on the topmost portion. Now I'll be taking
another color which is going to be Vermilion. I'll be just taking some
good amount of Vermilion. And this time start from
the topmost portion and slowly move towards
the bottom area. And you'll observe
a beautiful blend between both the colors. To get a even better blend
between both the colors, you can simply clean
your brush in water, dab it onto the tissue paper, and apply some horizontal
strokes in between. So you will observe
a beautiful blend between crimson,
red, and vermilion. This is how you have to create a beautiful gradient effect and this is how we have painted
a beautiful sky area. Now similarly, we are going
to paint the water body. And you can observe
that I have taken some good amount of vermilion in the quill brush directly, only we have not applied
a thin coat of water. This time you can just make a good consistency of
water and color together. And apply a nice coat of
color in the bottom portion, just below the horizon line. Now I'll be taking
my Quill brush of size zero and
we're going to take some darker tone of crimson red you can observe in
the color palette. So try to have less
amount of water and more color in order to make the water body look a
little bit more attractive. And to create a bit of details, we are going to create these
little horizontal strokes starting from the portion
just below the horizon line. It is a very random
and natural way of applying these
little strokes. No need to worry
about painting it in the exact same way
I'm painting right now. This is basically creating
some waves in the water body. You can apply the
horizontal strokes in a very random way. You can observe it in
the class projects. This is how we are
going to paint an abstract and a beautiful
gradient background. Now let us paint some
beautiful sillouts, which is going to complete
the entire landscape area. I'm going to use my
quill brush size zero and I have taken some
solid black color in it. You can observe that
I have just created some random outline using
the tip of my quill brush, which is basically representing
some beautiful leaves. You just have to use the tip of your quill brush and apply
it in this random manner. What you can do is initially
you can just create a natural outline and then you can fill in solid
black color inside. Make sure that there is no space left between the
masking tape and the water color that
we are applying right now look nice when they
remove the masking tape. Similarly, I'm
creating another bush and it is a little bit
smaller than the first one, just below the first one. I have just applied
some solid black color, having a natural outline. Now let us paint
some landscape area. In the bottom
portion, you can just simply observe the
way I'm using the tip of my quill brush to make a nice plantation in
the left hand side. Then slowly, you can just paint the entire landscape area. Now using the tip of
your quill brush, you can apply these
little strokes which is basically replicating some grass or some bushes
in the bottom portion. It's a very natural
way of creating some beautiful plantation
in the entire scenery. No need to worry
about the output. You can create your own
landscape area as well. It is absolutely fine. You're free to experiment. Now, I'm going to paint
a beautiful tree. You can observe that
I'm using the tip of my quill brush to create
an outline of a huge tree. Then I'm using the
entire surface of my brush to fill in solid black color in the
inner portion. No need to hurry at all. Try to paint it in a very
slow and steady manner. Make sure that there
is no space left. Then using the tip
of your quill brush, you can apply these random
strokes in the outline. This is how you can form a beautiful tree in case you find that your
color is getting finished. From the brush, you can take some more color from
the color palette. You can observe that I'm using the tip of my Quill
brush to paint the branches which
are connecting together and forming
one big branch. And just simply connect it with the landscape area that we have painted in the bottom part. We are done painting
the landscape area in the first background. Now let us move towards
the second background. I'm going to start by painting some mountains just
above the horizon line. No need to hurry at all. Just simply use the tip of your quill brush to create
a beautiful outline. And then you can fill in solid black color in the
inner portion. Now to create some beautiful
reflection effect, you can just use the tip of your quill brush and apply these little horizontal strokes. No need to hurry at all. Try to apply least
pressure on the brush. And simply use the tip
of the brush slowly. As you move towards
the bottom area, decrease the size of the
strokes that you're making. This is how we create a
beautiful reflection effect in the entire scenery. Now. Similarly, we
are going to add some rock bodies in the
water area as well. It's a very simple
and easy technique. You just have to
create the outline first and then fill in solid black color in
the inner portion. As you can observe, I'm using
the tip of my quill brush. You can decide the position of the rock bodies according to
your convenience as well. It is absolutely fine. No need to worry
about painting it in the exact same
way I have painted. Now we are going to paint a
beautiful lighthouse just above the mountain that we have painted on the right hand side, You can observe that using
the tip of my quill brush, I have created two lines. You can fill in
solid black color once you're done
creating the outline. Now using the tip
of the quill brush, you can apply these
vertical lines and a top dome to complete
the entire lighthouse. No need to hurry at all. Try to paint it in a very
slow and steady manner in case you do not want to
apply the brush directly. You can draw the
lighthouse using a pencil first and then
fill in solid black color. Now we're going to add some
beautiful coconut trees. You can observe that using
the tip of my quill brush. I'm just adding
these little bushes. You just have to leave
the strokes creating these beautiful outline which basically replicates the
leaves of the coconut tree. Now once you are done
adding the leaves, you can just simply make the beautiful stem which is connecting to
the mountain body. You just have to
simply use the tip of your quill brush to
get a nice thin line. Now we are going to have some rock bodies in the
bottom portion. You can observe that using
the tip of my quill brush, I have created a beautiful
natural outline. And then fill in solid black
color in the inner portion. If we're painting near
the masking tape, no need to hurry at all. Just make sure that
you apply the color in the entire surface and no spaces left between the masking tape
and the watercolor paper. Now, slowly we are going to
remove the masking tape. No need to hurry at all. Try to remove the
masking tape in an angle so that you do not end up tearing your beautiful
practice sheet. While I'm removing
the masking tape, you can observe the
beautiful edge that we get. This is the reason behind
applying a masking tape. Now you can already observe
a separation between both the beautiful
backgrounds that we have created and you can connect it with the class
projects right now. I hope that you got an
exact idea of how you have to paint two beautiful
backgrounds using watercolors. Now to enhance the
entire scenery, I have taken my round
brush of size three. Take some solid white
color and just paint a small circle replicating a beautiful moon or a
sun in the background. Now in all the ten
class projects, we are going to have
different sellouts creating some
amazing landscapes. In the class project, placed
in the right hand side, you can observe some beautiful
hills and some pine trees. I've taken some
solid black color in my quill brush of size zero. I'm going to take some good
amount of solid black color, try to have a good combination of water and color together. Now you can observe that
I have created an outline of hills and then fill in solid black color in
the inner portion. Mountains generally have a
very natural and random shape. There isn't any specific
form you can create your own composition of
the mountains as well. It is absolutely fine. Once you're done
painting the mountains, you can simply draw
two vertical lines. Then we are going to start
from the topmost portion, creating these little strokes. As you move towards
the bottom area, simply increase the size of the strokes that
you're making. It is a very simple and easy technique to
paint pine trees. Now you can relate it
with the class project. Now we have another
class project where we have these
pointy Hills. It's a very easy and
simple technique. Again, you just have to create the outline using the
tip of your quill brush. No need to hurry at
all. You can create a beautiful composition
according to your convenience. Once you're done
with the outline, you can fill in solid black
color in the inner portion. Make sure that there
is no wide space left because it
will not look nice. Try to paint it in a very
slow and steady manner. This is how you have to paint a pointy hill sill out for
this particular class project. Now if you observe
another class project, we have some beautiful
landscape area in the bottom portion
and a giant tree. It is a very simple
and easy technique. You just have to draw a horizontal line in
the bottom part. Then we are going to add
these little strokes, creating some amazing
landscape area using the tip of your
quill brush, of course. And then you have to fill
in solid black color. No need to hurry at all. Try to paint it in a very slow
and steady manner. Once you're done painting the landscape area in
the bottom portion, you just have to simply use
the tip of your quill brush, create a beautiful
outline of a tree. Comparative to the
class project, I'm trying to add
some little trees, so no need to hurry at all. Try to paint it in a
slow and steady manner. Now just connect
these little strokes with the bushes that
we have painted. In the bottom part, you
can definitely play with the shape and the sizes of the plantations that
you're going to paint. You can create your own
beautiful composition. It is absolutely fine. No need to worry
about painting it in the exact same
way I have painted. Now if you observe carefully, I'm just adding these
little pine trees using some minimal strokes, then I have created a
nice landscape area. You have to create
the outline first, and then you have
to fill in solid black color in the
inner portion. Once you're done with
the topmost portion, you can add these
little strokes, creating some nice grassy
effect on the topmost area. I have basically started from the left portion and slowly I'll be moving towards
the right area. Now, once we are done adding the grassy effect in
the bottom portion, we can just paint a huge tree. You can start by creating the outline of the
entire tree using the tip of the quill brush in case you find that your
color is getting finished. From the brush, you can take some more color from
the color palette. Make sure that you have more
color and less water in the brush because
it will decrease the saturation of the color. Now once you're done
with the entire tree, you can enhance it by adding some more little
strokes in the outline. Now I'll be just taking
some smaller strokes, connecting it with
the main tree trunk. You can experiment
with the shape and the size of the
entire tree as well. If you observe carefully, it's a very fun part. Creating some
beautiful sellouts. I would personally
suggest you to create your own
sell outs as well. You can experiment all the time in your practicing journal. Now, if you observe the class project in the
right hand side, there is some nice houses in the bottom portion and we have some bushes as well
with a night lamb. Let us practice that as well. You just have to create
the outline first. And using the tip
of the quill brush, it will be really easy
to create the outline. No need to worry
about painting it in the exact same
way I have painted. You can create your
own composition of the houses and
the roof as well, so you can observe a
beautiful outline. Once you're done
with the outline, you just have to fill in solid black color in the
inner portion. No need to hurry at all. Try to paint it in a very
slow and steady manner. Make sure that there
is no wide space left in the entire sill out. It will not look nice. Once we are done with
the entire sill out, we're going to add some
minor details like adding some chimneys in
the topmost portion. So it's a very simple
and easy technique. Simply use the tip of your
quill brush of size zero and add these rectangular
shapes which are very small, creating some minor details. We're also going to add
some nice fence effects. You can add these little
horizontal and vertical lines. This particularly makes
the entire sellout look a little bit more
aesthetically appealing. Now if you observe another
class project carefully, we have a nice small boat
that you can practice. You just have to
create a triangular shape using the tip of your quill brush and fill in solid black color in
the inner portion. It's a very simple
and easy technique to create a sell out for a boat. Once you're done adding
the triangular shape and a vertical line, you can add the body of the boat using the tip
of your quill brush, you can connect the
triangular shape and the line that
we have created. This is a very simple
and easy technique to create a sellout of a boat. I'll be taking my round brush of size three and we're going to add some windows in the hill out of the
house that we painted. It's a very simple
and easy technique. You just have to apply
these rectangular shapes. We are done with the
entire practice sheet. Let me take you a little
bit closer so that you can observe all the details
carefully with the labelings. The practice sheet will help you a lot to develop
confidence while painting, and the chances of making
mistakes will be very less. It would be really
great if you practice all the elements before starting
with the class projects. Now let us move
towards the next part.
5. Lets Cut the Paper: Everybody. Now let
us learn how to cut an six size paper into
a perfect square. If you observe all the
class projects carefully, it's a perfect
square that I have created using an six
size watercolor paper. It's a very simple
and easy technique. No need to worry about
that if you observe carefully the six size
paper in front of you. It's a simple,
rectangular shape paper. These are basically
watercolor papers, and it is 300 GSM. The GSM basically means
the thickness of the paper so that we can apply heavy
watercolor washes on it. You can observe this
particular class project. It's a simple square shape. We are going to convert
the rectangular shape of the watercolor paper
into a perfect square. It's a very easy and
simple technique. I'm going to use a simple ruler to do this particular step. You can observe that we have
a smaller side of the paper, which is basically
of 11 centimeters if you observe carefully. Similarly, we are going to mark 11 centimeters on the
longer side as well. Simply place your ruler in this horizontal manner and
mark it at 11 centimeters. Using your pencil, you can
use a simple dot to do that. Now place your ruler in
this vertical format. Make sure that your
ruler is parallel to the paper edge and
draw a vertical line. You can observe a square shape. Now carefully, we are going
to remove the extra part. You can use a pair
of scissor simply and just cut it in a
very careful manner. Follow the pencil line. No need to hurry at all. Try to cut it in a very slow
and steady manner. Now you can observe that we have separated a beautiful
square shape. You can remove the extra
part of the paper. We are ready with the
entire watercolor paper and you can connect it with
the class project right here. This is how you have to cut an six size paper into
a perfect square. We are ready to do all
the class projects now. Let us move towards
the next part.
6. Lets Tape the Paper: Everybody. Before starting
with the class project, let us tape the
watercolor paper. If you observe all the
class projects carefully, you will observe a nice
white border which becomes really aesthetically
appealing when we remove the masking tape. But before that,
we have to apply the masking tape on
all the four sides. Now this is a simple wooden
surface that I'm using. In case you do not
have a wooden surface, you can use a simple writing pad or your entire desk
surface as well. Just decide the position where you want to place your
watercolor paper. And in this particular
class project, you can observe this
beautiful white border. We are going to use this
particular masking tape. It is simple paper tape that we are going to place on
all the four sides. It's a very simple
and easy technique of placing the masking tape. But the more precise way
you place the masking tape, the better border you'll get. Let us start with
the right hand side. Take a piece of
the masking tape. Apply some portion of
the masking tape onto the watercolor paper and some portion onto
the wooden surface. Make sure that the masking tape is parallel with the paper edge. Once you have applied
the masking tape, apply a little bit of
pressure using your finger or thumb so that the masking tape will get stuck to the
watercolor paper, the wooden surface,
in a nice manner. Similarly, I'll be
applying the masking tape in the bottom portion
and the topmost portion. Just make sure that
the masking tape is parallel with the paper edge. You apply some good pressure
using your fingers, we are done applying
the masking tape on all the three sides. Now let us put the masking
tape in the last edge as well. You can observe we
are done applying the masking tape on
all the four sides. This is how you have to do it in all the four class projects. Once we complete the painting, we are going to remove
the masking tape and then we get this
beautiful white border. Now let us move
towards the next part.
7. Painting 1 - Light House: Hey Body, You're most welcome to the first painting
which is a lighthouse. As you can observe,
I'm ready with my watercolor paper with the masking tape on
all the four sides. I'll be using a simple pencil
to create a horizon line. The horizon line basically separates the sky area
and the water body. I'll be using my Quill brush of size two and we're going to apply a thin coat of water
just above the horizon line. Because we are going to
paint the sky area first. No need to hurry at all. Try to apply an even coat of water. Make sure that there
is no space left between the masking tape
and the watercolor paper. The reason behind applying a thin coat of water initially, is because we want a good blend of all the water
colors together. This is basically known as
a wet on wet technique. You can observe we have
applied a nice coat of water. Now I'll be taking some vermilion
from the color palette. And we can add a little bit
of orange in it as well. No need to hurry at all. Try to make a good consistency of water and color together. And simply apply a
simple horizontal stroke just above the horizon line. You can observe we have created a nice patch of vermilion
on the bottom portion, just above the horizon line. It's a simple horizontal
movement of the brush. I'll be taking some crimson
red from the color palette. As you can observe.
Again, you have to make a good combination of
color and water together. Start from the
topmost portion and slowly move towards
the bottom area. You will observe a line of separation between
both the colors. You can simply clean
your quill brush and dab it onto
the tissue paper. Then you can just blend
both the colors together. By applying another
horizontal stroke, you can observe a
beautiful gradient effect from crimson, red to vermilion. Now let us apply
another thin coat of water on the water body area, just below the horizon line. No need to hurry at all. Try to apply an even coat of water. The water is having a
little bit of color, but that is absolutely fine. I'll be taking some crimson red. We're going to start applying the color just below
the horizon line. Slowly move towards
the bottom area. Now similarly, we'll be taking some darker tone of vermillion applied from the bottom portion and slowly move towards
the above area. You can carefully
observe this time we do not have a beautiful
gratin defect, but we wanted to keep the water
body a little bit darker. It's creating a nice depth. I'll be taking some darker tone of crimson red in
the color palette using Michel brush of size zero to make it a
little bit more darker. You can add a little
bit of brown also. It is absolutely fine. Now you can observe
I'm just adding these little horizontal
strokes in a random manner. These horizontal
strokes basically are replicating the waves
in the water body. There isn't any specific
way of adding them. You can just create your own
composition of adding them. You can just observe a
nice contrast between the background color and the strokes that we are
applying right now. This basically creates a nice aesthetic to the
entire water body. We are done painting the sky
area and the water body. Now let us move towards
the elements that we are going to paint in the
entire landscape area. Now in the color palette,
observe carefully. I'll be using my Quill
brush of size zero. I'll be taking some
solid black color. No need to hurry at all. Try to make a good composition
of color and water together that we get
a nice consistency. At the same time
we want the color to be very much saturated. I'll be starting from
the middle portion, just above the horizon
line, creating an outline. Basically, there's going to
be a huge mountain body, you can observe, I have created an outline in the
topmost portion. Similarly, I'll be adding the outline on the horizon line. Once you're done
with the outline, you just have to simply fill in solid black color in
the inner portion. No need to hurry at all. Try to paint it in a very
slow and steady manner. Make sure that there is no
wide space left in between. Also, you can use the tip of
your quill brush to paint. In smaller portions, we have painted the
entire mountain body on the right hand side area. Slowly, you can add these
little horizontal strokes just below the horizon line to get
a nice reflection effect. As you move towards
the bottom portion, you can simply
decrease the size of the horizontal strokes
that you're making. This particular step
basically creates the shadow for the
entire mountain body. Now similarly, we
are going to add another mountain body on
the left hand portion. It's going to be the same step. You have to create
the outline first, and then you have
to fill in solid black color in the
inner portion. In case you find that your color is getting finished
from the brush, you can take some more color
from the color palette. Just make sure that
you have a good saturated color and
less water in it. Now, Similarly, I'll be adding reflection effect for
the mountain body on the left hand side as well. Just adding these little
horizontal strokes using the tip of
the Quill brush. As I'm moving towards
the bottom part, I'll simply decrease the
size of the strokes. We are done painting
the mountain bodies on the left and right
hand side portion. I'll be adding a little bit of mountain on the horizon line. Similarly, we're going to add some rock bodies in the
water body as well. It's a very simple
and easy step. You just have to create
a small outline. Rock bodies are also
generally having a very natural and
organic shape. You can create your
own shapes and composition of the
rock bodies as well. You just have to create
a random outline and then fill in
solid black color in the inner portion in case you find it a little bit
difficult to paint it directly towards
your final painting. What you can do is you
can practice it on a rough scrape of
paper initially, and then you can come
towards your final painting. This will help you a lot to develop confidence
while painting, and the chances of making
mistakes will be very less. I'm going to add a
beautiful lighthouse on the right hand
side mountain body. You just have to create these vertical lines
diverging both the sides, and you have to fill in solid black color in the
inner portion. Once we are done painting
the lighthouse structure, we're going to add
a little bit of details on the topmost portion. Just add a little bit of horizontal and vertical lines together to create
some nice details. And you're going to paint a
little bit of dome shape, which is basically semicircular. You can use the tip of your
quill brush to paint in smaller portion and a
small vertical line in the topmost portion. This basically creates
some nice details in the entire lighthouse. No need to hurry at all. Try to paint it in a very
slow and steady manner. It is absolutely
fine. Take your time. In fact, you can decide the
position of the lighthouse. Also, you can experiment and you can decide the
position of the rock bodies, create your own composition. Now I'll be adding some more details to the entire scenery. We're going to paint some
beautiful coconut trees, and it's a very simple
and easy technique. You just have to use the tip of your quill brush
of size zero. Add these little strokes and convert them into
these smaller bushes. This basically replicates the leaves of the coconut trees. We are basically
adding two bushes on the mountain body on
the left hand side, I'll be adding few
more coconut trees on the mountain body on the
right hand side as well, you can play with the shape and the size of the
coconut trees as well. It is absolutely fine. Simply use the tip
of your quill brush. You have to just create
these little strokes, converting them into
these small bushes in case you're not that
much confident enough to paint it directly towards
your final painting. You do not want to spoil your beautiful
gradient background. What you can do is
you can practice this particular sill out on a rough scrape of paper
or on a practice sheet, and then you can come
towards your final painting. This will help your lot to develop confidence
while painting, and the chances of making
mistakes will be very less. Also, in case you find that your color is
getting a little bit finished from the
brush and you're not getting that much
saturated color. You can take some more color
from the color palette, Make a good composition of
color and water together. Now, once we are done
painting the bushes and the topmost portion
of the coconut tree, we are going to use the
tip of the quill brush and paint these stems connecting
it with the mountain body. Apply least pressure
on the brush. We are done with the
entire landscape area. Now let's add a nice sun in
the entire sky area as well. I'll be using my round
brush of size three. Take some good amount
of solid white color in it and just paint a
small circular shape. We are done with the
entire painting and it's a very easy
minimal painting. Now let us remove
the masking tape. Try to remove the masking
tape in an angle so that you do not end up tearing
your beautiful painting. You can already observe a
beautiful white border. Let me take you a little
bit closer so that you can observe all the
details carefully. I hope that you enjoyed creating this
particular painting. Now let us move towards
the next painting.
8. Painting 2 - Minimal Hills: Everybody, you're most welcome
to the second painting, which is Minimal Hills. As you can observe,
I'm ready with my watercolor paper and the masking tape on
all the four sides. I'll be using a simple pencil
to draw a horizon line which basically separates the sky area and the water body. I'll be taking my Quill brush of size two and we're going to apply a thin coat of water
just above the horizon line. No need to hurry at all. Try to apply an
even coat of water. Make sure that there
is no space left between the masking tape
and the watercolor paper. You can observe the
movement of my quill brush. It's a simple
horizontal movement. This is basically known as
a wet on wet technique, in which we apply a thin coat of water initially and then
the color so that we can get a nice blend of the colors and the colors
can spread naturally. I've taken some good
amount of crimson, red color in the quill
brush of size two. And you can observe from
the topmost portion, I've started to apply it
in this random manner, leaving some white
space in between. So it's a very simple
and easy technique to create an
abstract background. Now just simply clean your quill brush and we are
going to take some Vermilion. Take some good amount
of vermilion and start applying it just above
the horizon line. This time we are just applying the color in between
the white spaces. Still you can leave some
white space in between. It is absolutely fine. It's an abstract background. No need to take it
that seriously. Wherever you want to
apply more color, apply more pressure
on the brush. And wherever you want to
have thinner strokes, just use the tip of
your quill brush. This is how we have to paint a beautiful abstract background
using two water colors. Now let us paint the
water body as well. Just simply clean
your quill brush. Take some good
amount of crimson, red color and apply it just
below the horizon line. It's a simple
horizontal movement. Slowly move towards
the bottom area. We want a good saturated color. Try to have less water and more color in
your quill brush. Make sure that there
is no space left between the watercolor
paper and the masking tape. Now I'll be taking my
quill brush of size zero. And I have taken
some good amount of solid black color in it. And we are going to paint
some beautiful hills. So it's a very simple
and easy technique. We're going to create the
outline initially and then we are going
to fill in solid black color in the
inner portion. Mountains and hills
generally have a very natural and
organic shape. There isn't any specific
way of painting them. You can create your own natural and organic
shape of the hills. And it is absolutely
fine if you do not paint it in the exact same way
I'm painting right now. You can create your own
composition as well. You can even decide the position of the hills according
to your convenience. Right now I'm painting the hills just above
the horizon line. I'm creating the
natural outline of the hills using the
tip of my quill brush, and then I'm filling in
solid black color inside. Now I'll be just
painting another hill, which is going to be
a little bit bigger. So you can observe that
I'm using the tip of my quill brush and creating
these pointy tips. Make sure that you
have more color and less water in
your quill brush. Try to create a
good composition of color and water together in case you do not want to decrease the saturation of your
solid black color, try to have more
color and less water. Also, in case you're
not that much confident enough to
paint the hills directly towards your final
painting and you do not want to spoil your
abstract background. What you can do is
you can just practice it on a rough scrape
of paper initially, and then you can come
towards your final painting. This will definitely help you a lot to develop
confidence while painting, and the chances of making
mistakes will be very less. As you can observe, we have
painted a big hill as well. Now we are going to add few
more hills in the foreground. These hills are going to
be in the water body. I'm starting from
the right hand side and I'm slowly moving
towards the left area. You can observe, again, I
have drawn the outline first and then I'm filling in solid black color in the
inner portion. You can also observe
a beautiful contrast between the hills and the background color
that we have created. While you're painting the hills, make sure that there is no
white space left in between. That will not look nice once
the entire sellout dries. Now I'm adding few more hills
in between the water body. It is absolutely
fine if you want to create your own
composition of the hills, but I hope that you got an
exact idea of how to paint them in case you find that the color is getting
finished from your brush, you can definitely
take some more color from the color palette. Now to make the hills look a little bit more in
depth and detail, what you can do is you can take some solid black color
from the color palette. Start applying these
little horizontal strokes, starting from the main hill, move towards the bottom area, and decrease the size of the
strokes that you're making. This basically creates a
nice reflection effect. We are basically painting
some reflection effect of the hills towards
the water body. No need to hurry at all. Try to do this particular step in a very slow and
steady manner. Apply least pressure on
the brush and just simply make these little
horizontal strokes enhancing the entire hill. You can observe carefully that
the horizontal strokes are slowly getting vanished as I move towards the bottom area, in case you're not that
much confident enough to apply the reflection effect
directly towards your hills, You do not want to spoil your beautiful background
that you have created. What you can do is
just simply practice it on a rough scrape
of paper initially, and then you can come
towards your final painting. This will help you
a lot to develop confidence and improvise
your hand movement and the chances of making
mistakes will also be very less you can observe. Now the hills look very much in depth and the scenery becomes a little
bit more aesthetic. Using the same quill brush, I'm going to add a
little bit of waves, which are going to be very much in contrast
with the background. Take some solid black color and apply these little
horizontal strokes. Now I'll be using my round
brush of size three. Take some solid white color in it and just paint
a circular shape. You can decide the position of the sun according to
your convenience. It is absolutely fine. I have placed it in
the left hand portion. Now using the same brush, we can add some
reflection effect. You just have to use the
same brush and apply these little horizontal strokes just below the
horizon line slowly. As you move towards
the bottom area, you can simply decrease the size of the strokes
that you're making. A while you're moving
towards the bottom area, you can simply decrease the pressure on
the brush as well. No need to hurry at all. Try to do this particular step in a very slow and
steady manner. We are done with the
entire painting. Now let us remove
the masking tape. Try to remove the masking
tape in an angle so that you do not end up tearing
your beautiful painting. This is also one of the
most satisfying step while removing the masking tape, and you can already observe
a beautiful white border. Now let me take you a
little bit closer so that you can observe all
the details carefully. It's a very simple
and minimal painting. No need to hurry at
all. Try to complete the entire project with
a lot of patience. I hope that you enjoyed creating this particular
class project. Feel free to explore and experiment with the
entire scenery. Now let us move towards
the next painting.
9. Painting 3 - Orange Sunset: Everybody, you're most welcome
to the third painting, which is an orange sunset
As you can observe. I'm ready with my
watercolor paper with the masking tape on
all the four sides. I'll be using a simple pencil
to draw a horizon line. It's a simple
horizontal line which separates the sky area
and the water area. Now I'll be using my Quill brush of size two and we're going to apply a thin coat of
water on the upper portion, just above the horizon line. No need to hurry at all. Try to apply an even coat of water on the entire
watercolor surface. Make sure that there
is no space left between the masking tape
and the watercolor paper. This is basically known as
a wet on wet technique, in which we apply a thin
coat of water initially. So that the colors can blend in a nice way in the color palette. As you can observe,
we are going to take some good amount of vermilion, which is basically
very near to red. Try to make a good composition of water and color together. Simply apply these horizontal
strokes just above the horizon line and slowly move towards
the above portion. Now we are going to
clean the Quill brush, and I'm going to take some
good amount of gambage, which is very near
to yellow color. Start applying it from
the topmost portion. Slowly move towards
the bottom area, and you will observe a
beautiful gradient effect between both the colors. So you can get a nice blend by applying these horizontal
strokes in between. No need to hurry at all. Try to paint it in a very
slow and steady manner. Let the background
dry for a while. I'll be taking my quill
brush of size zero. Take some saturated
amount of vermilion. In case you find there is axis amount of water in your brush, just simply dab it
onto the tissue paper. You can add a little bit
of crimson red as well. We have to create
these little strokes which are basically the clouds. You can observe the movement
of the quill brush now slowly start applying
it onto the background. There isn't any specific way of applying these horizontal
strokes in the sky area. You can randomly apply it using the tip of
your quill brush. Apply very less pressure
on the brush and try to keep your hand very much loose
and do not make it stiff. You can increase the amount of strokes that you're making
near the horizon line. As you move towards
the above portion, you can decrease the amount of strokes that you're making. You can observe, I'm just
randomly moving my Quill brush. There isn't any specific way of painting them in
case you're not that much confident enough
to paint the clouds directly towards your
beautiful gradient background. What you can do is you
can practice it on a rough scrape of
paper initially, and then you can come
towards your final painting. This will help you a lot
to develop confidence and the chances of making
mistakes will be less. Now let us paint the water body. I'll be taking my quill brush of size two and we're going
to take some water. There is a little bit
of gambage in it, but it is absolutely fine. No need to hurry at
all. Try to paint it in a very slow
and steady manner. We are going to
take some vermilion and orange together
and we're going to add some nice horizontal strokes to create some depth and
detail into the water body. You can observe I have applied a simple horizontal stroke near the horizon line and then slowly moving
towards the bottom area. Now you can observe
a beautiful depth in the entire water body. You can take some good amount of gambage from the color palette, try to have less
water and more color. You can slowly apply it
in the bottom portion. Now we're going to add
few horizontal strokes in the water body as well, using some vermilion
from the color palette. Again, I'll be taking my
quill brush of size zero. And you can observe,
we're going to add these little horizontal
strokes near the horizon line. We're not going to apply a
lot of horizontal strokes, you can just simply
apply a few of them in a very random
and natural way. There isn't any specific
way of painting them. It is absolutely fine. No need to worry
about painting it in the exact same way I'm
painting right now. You can add the
horizontal strokes according to your convenience. As well, you can observe a beautiful depth in the entire water
body as well. This basically creates
a nice contrast. Now let us take some solid black color in the
color palette. Make a good combination of
color and water together. Make sure that you do not add a lot of water in the color. It will decrease the
saturation of the color. We're going to paint
some beautiful mountains just above the horizon line. I'll be taking my quill
brush of size zero. I have created the outline. And then you have
to fill in solid black color in the
inner portion. If you have observed carefully, mountains generally have a very natural and organic shape. There isn't any specific
way of painting them in case you want to create your own natural organic shape
of the mountains, that is absolutely fine. No need to worry
about painting it in the exact same
way I have painted. You can observe
that I have painted two smaller mountains in between and one bigger mountain on the right
hand side as well. Try to paint the mountains in a very slow and
steady manner. Make sure that there is no space left between the entire
solid black color. It will not look nice
when it dries up. Similarly, we are going to add few more rock bodies in
the water area as well. The step is absolutely same, you just have to create
the outline first, and then you have
to fill in solid black color in the
inner portion. I'm randomly going to scatter some rock bodies in the
entire water body area. There isn't any
specific composition that I'm creating right now. In fact, you can create your own composition of
the rock bodies as well. In case you find that there is axis amount of water in
your brush and less color, you can simply dab your
brush to the tissue paper, it will remove axis
amount of water. I'll be adding few
horizontal strokes just below the mountains that we have painted to create some nice depth and
reflection effect. Try to apply least pressure on your quill brush and just make these little
horizontal strokes. As you move towards
the bottom area, simply decrease the size of the strokes that
you're making. This basically creates
a nice depth in the entire rock bodies and the mountains
that we have painted. It creates a nice
reflection effect onto the water body as well. This particular step
requires a lot of patience, and you have to
paint it in a very slow and steady manner. No need to hurry at all in
case you're not that much confident enough to paint the reflection effect directly towards your final painting. What you can do is you
can practice it on a rough scrape of
paper initially, and then you can come
towards your final painting. It will help you a lot to develop confidence
and hand movement, and the chances of making
mistakes will be very less. Now, you can observe carefully
that we have painted the mountains and the rock
bodies in the entire scenery. Now let us paint
a beautiful tree. So it's going to be a very
simple and easy step. I'll be using my quill
brush of size zero. You just have to
create the outline first by adding these
little strokes, So be very much careful. Just use the tip of
your quill brush and add these little strokes, forming a beautiful bush
for the entire tree. No need to hurry at all. Try to apply these
little strokes in a slow and steady manner. In fact, you can
play with the shape of the entire tree as well. Now, once you're done
with the outline, you just have to fill in solid black color in the
inner portion. Make sure that there is
no space left in between. You can in fact, apply
few more strokes to create some nice composition
of the entire bush. Now once we are done
painting the entire bush, we are going to paint the trunk of the entire tree as well. Just simply add these
little minor strokes using the tip of
your quill brush, which are basically the branches and connect it to
one single trunk. No need to hurry at all. Try to paint it in a very slow
and steady manner. Carefully use the tip of your quill brush so that you can paint some little strokes. Apply least pressure on it now. Similarly, we are going
to add some bushes on the topmost portion
and the bottom area. Let us start with
the topmost portion. We're going to add a very
rough and random outline. First, we're going to add the entire bush on
the top right corner. I'm just adding these
little strokes using the tip of my quill brush
and creating a bush. Once we are done creating the outline in this
natural manner, we are going to fill
in solid black color in the entire portion. You can observe
that I have painted it with solid black color
in the inner portion. Make sure that there
is no space left between the watercolor
paper and the masking tape. It will not look
nice when we remove the masking tape after
applying a solid black color. You can also use the tip of your quill brush and add
these little strokes again, you can observe how beautiful
the entire bush looks. Now, if you have observed
plants carefully, they generally have a very
natural and organic shape. There isn't any specific
way of painting them. You can create your own
natural composition and shape of the
entire plants as well. In fact, you can decide
the position of the bush in the entire scenery
according to your convenience. It is absolutely fine you can explore and experiment
in the entire scenery. Now, similarly, we
are going to add few more plantations in the
bottom portion as well. Again, these are going to
be some beautiful bushes. The step is absolutely same. We're going to use the same
quill brush of size zero. Take some solid
black color in it. In case you find there is axis amount of water
in your brush, just simply dab your brush to the tissue paper so that axis amount of water
will be removed. Try to get a nice saturation
of solid black color. You can observe I have created a very natural and random line combining these little
strokes together. Once we are done with
the entire outline, you just have to apply solid black color in the
inner portion. Just make sure that
there is no space left between the masking tape
and the watercolor paper. Now, once you are done adding a solid black color in
the entire portion, you can again use the tip of
your quill brush to enhance the beautiful bushes that we have painted in
the bottom area. No need to hurry at all. Try to paint it in a very
slow and steady manner. Now I'll be taking my round
brush of size three and we are going to paint a beautiful
sun in the sky area. Just take some solid white
color in the color palette. Add a little bit of water
to loosen the color up. Now we are just going to
paint a beautiful sun. You can decide the position of the sun according to
your convenience. You just have to paint a small circular shape
using the same round brush. We're going to add a noise reflection effect
in the water body. Just simply add these
little horizontal strokes and we're done with
the entire painting. Now slowly remove the
masking tape in an angle so that you do not end up tearing your beautiful painting. Let me take you a little
bit closer so that you can observe all the
details carefully. I hope that you enjoyed creating this particular painting and
got to learn something new. Feel free to explore and experiment with
the water colors. You can create your
own composition of the entire scenery as well. Now let us move towards
the next painting.
10. Painting 4 - Blue Sky: Everybody, you're most welcome
to the fourth painting, which is a blue sky.
As you can observe. I'm ready with my
watercolor paper and the masking tape on
all the four sides. This time, we are not going
to draw a horizon line. I'm going to simply
take my Quill brush of size two and I'm going to
apply a thin coat of water. No need to hurry at all. Try to apply an
even coat of water. Make sure that there
is no space left between the masking tape
and the watercolor paper. This is basically known as
a wet on wet technique, in which we apply a thin coat of water initially and then the watercolors that the colors
can blend in an ice way. Now we are going to
paint a beautiful sky. Now if you observe in
the color palette, I'm going to take some
good saturated color of Cerline Blue, try to make a good
composition of color and water together
in the color palette. We're going to use the same
quill brush of size two. We're going to start applying the color from the
topmost portion. You can observe it's a
simple horizontal movement. Slowly, I'll be moving
towards the bottom area. No need to hurry at all. Try to paint it in a very
slow and steady manner. In case you find that there is axis amount of water
in your brush, just simply dab it
onto the tissue paper. Now we're going to take another darker tone of a blue shade, which is crucian blue. I'll be just cleaning my
quill brush in water. Take some good amount of Prussian blue from
the color palette. As you can observe, make a good composition of color
and water together and slowly start applying it from the bottom part and will move
towards the upper portion. Now using the tip of
your quill brush, you can make these little horizontal strokes
in a curved manner. This particular blue color is a little bit darker
than the first one. That's why the clouds
will appear in a nice contrast with
the background color. One thing you can keep in
mind while working with watercolors is that the
saturation of the color, which you can observe right now, will be one shade lighter
when it dries up, you can take the saturation of the color according
to your convenience. Try to have less amount
of water and more color. If you want to get a
nice vibrant background, you can observe I'm adding a few more horizontal strokes on the above portion to get
a nice cloud effect. Now, let the background
dry for a while. In the color palette, I'll be taking some solid black color. I'll be using my Quill
brush of size zero and we're going to paint
some beautiful mountains. It's a very simple
and easy step. They're going to create
the outline first and then we'll be filling in solid black color in the
inner portion. As you all know that
mountains generally have a very natural
and organic shape, there isn't any specific
way of painting them. You can create your
own composition of two to three mountains according to your
convenience as well, in case you want to paint it in the exact same way I'm
painting right now, that is also absolutely fine. Just make sure that there
is no space left between the masking tape
and the water color that we are applying right now. Also, try to make a good consistency of
solid black color. Try to have less amount of water and more color
that will give you a nice saturation of all the mountains that we
have painted right now. Now, apart from the mountains, let us add few more elements to enhance the entire painting. I'll be taking my Quill brush of size zero and we're going to add some bushes on
the top right corner. So it's a very simple
and easy step. We're going to take some solid
black color in the brush, and you just have to use
the tip of your brush and create these little strokes
combining together, forming a very natural
and organic outline. No need to hurry
at all. Try to do this particular step in a
very slow and steady manner. Again, I'll be telling
you the same thing, that even plantations are having a very natural
and organic shape. There isn't any specific
way of painting them. You can see there
is a very natural and organic outline
that I've created. Once you're done
with the outline, you just have to fill in solid black color in the
inner portion, so you can observe how
beautiful the entire bush will look after even applying a solid black color
in the inner portion. You can also enhance
the outline, again, by using the tip
of your quill brush. Try to apply very less
pressure and create these little strokes forming some beautiful leaves
in the outer portion. Also, in case you want to create your own composition of the bushes coming inside
the entire scenery, that is also absolutely fine. You can decide the position, you can play with the shape and the sizes of the bushes as well. Now, similarly, I'll be creating some more bushes
in the right area. Now we are going to
have another bush that is coming inside
the entire scenery, but it is going to be
a little bit smaller the bush that we have created on the right hand
side top corner. Now this time we are applying
it on the left hand side, so you can observe that it is a little bit smaller in size, but the steps and method
is absolutely same. You just have to use the
tip of your quill brush, apply a nice outline, and then you can fill in solid black color in the
inner portion. Just make sure that
you do not leave any space between
the masking tape and the solid black color. It will not look nice when we remove the entire masking tape. Also, in case you're
not that much confident enough to paint
the bushes directly towards your final
painting and you do not want to spoil your beautiful
abstract background. What you can do is you
can practice it on a rough scrape of
paper initially, and then you can come
towards your final painting. It will help you
a lot to develop confidence and improvise
your hand movement, and the chances of making
mistakes will be very less. Now we can even improvise on the aesthetics of
the entire painting. What we are going to do is
that we are going to create a nice plantation near the mountain area on
the right hand side, you can observe I'm just
repeating the same step, creating some beautiful outline, using little strokes, using
the tip of my quill brush. And then I have just fill in solid black color in
the inner portion. And I'm just making sure that
I'm not leaving any space between the masking tape
and the watercolor paper. If you observe carefully, I'm using the tip of my
Quill brush to create these little dots on the outline which basically
replicates the leaves. And it's fill out basically,
no need to hurry at all. Try to paint it in a very
slow and steady manner. Take your time. Keep your hand very
much loose and calm. So now I'm going to add
few more bushes near the plantations that we have painted on the above portion. So it's a very simple
and easy step. You just have to use the tip
of your quill brush again, Apply very less pressure on it, and just create this
beautiful bush. You just have to apply
these minimal strokes, forming a natural
and organic shape. It is absolutely fine. No need to worry
about painting it in the exact same way I'm
painting right now. Similarly, you can
create one more bush which is a little bit
smaller than the first one. And then using the tip
of the quill brush, you can just connect it
using these little strokes, which basically replicates
the branches you can observe. It creates a nice contrast with the background and it also enhances the entire plantation
that we have painted. On the topmost portion, we are almost done with
the entire sell out. I'll be taking some solid white color using
my Quill brush of size zero and we are going
to paint a beautiful sun. You can decide the position of the sun according to
your convenience. You just have to paint
a small circular shape. You can observe the
white sun creates a very beautiful contrast with
the dark blue background. No need to hurry at
all. Try to paint it in a very slow
and steady manner, and we are done with
the entire painting. Now let us remove
the masking tape. No need to hurry at
all. Try to remove the masking tape in a very
slow and steady manner. Try to remove it in
an angle so that you do not end up tearing
your beautiful painting. Now let me take you a
little bit closer so that you can observe all
the details carefully. I hope that you enjoyed creating this particular
class project. It's a very minimal
and simple painting that you will definitely
enjoy creating. Now let us move towards
the next painting.
11. Painting 5 - Purple Sky: Hey buddy, you're most welcome
to the fifth painting, which is a purple sky. As you can observe,
I'm ready with my watercolor paper and the masking tape on
all the four sides. I'll be using a simple pencil
to draw a horizon line, which is basically a
simple horizontal line. This horizontal line basically separates the sky area
and the water body. Now I'll be using my Quill brush of size two and we're going to apply some clear water
on the topmost portion, just above the horizon line. We're going to
paint the sky area. First, try to take some good
amount of water and apply a thin coat of water on the entire surface. No
need to worry at all. Try to apply an even coat of water and make
sure that there is no space left between the watercolor paper
and the masking tape. Now in the same quill
brush of size two, you just have to take
some nice crimson color. Just apply it above the horizon line and slowly
move towards the above area. Now simply clean your quill brush again and we're going to take some nice darker
tone of purple. Just simply clean your
quill brush carefully, and in the color palette
you can observe, we are trying to make
a good composition of purple color with water. Now you just have to start
applying the color from the topmost portion and slowly move towards
the bottom area. No need to hurry at all. It's a simple
horizontal movement. In order to get a nice
gradient background and to get a better blend, you can just apply some
more horizontal strokes. The more horizontal
strokes you apply, the better blend you'll get. You can observe that I'm using the tip of my quill
brush as well. You can observe a
beautiful blend between purple and
crimson together. Now let us paint the
water body as well. Taking some good amount
of water in the brush, there is a little bit of color, but it is absolutely fine. You just have to apply a
thin coat of water again and take some good amount of
purple from the color palette. You can observe that
this time we have some nice darker tone of purple. I have just applied it below the horizon line and slowly be moving towards
the bottom area. Now to get a lighter
tone of purple, I'll be taking some solid white
color in the quill brush, and you can just apply it on the bottom portion and slowly move towards
the above area. You can observe a
nice lighter tone in the bottom area and a darker tone of purple
in the topmost portion. Now let the background
dry for a while. Now in the color palette,
if you observe carefully, I'll be taking some good
amount of solid black color. Make a good composition of
color and water together. Try to have more
color and less water so that you can get a nice
saturation of the color. Now on the horizon line, you can observe using the tip of my quill brush of size zero, I have just applied
a horizontal line. Then slowly you have to create
this beautiful outline, creating a nice mountain body. The first mountain body on the left side is a
little bit smaller and the right hand side mountain
body is a little bit bigger so you can create a very natural and
organic outline. It is absolutely fine. You can create your
own composition of the mountain as well. Now once you're done
with the outline, you just have to fill in solid black color in the
inner portion. Make sure that there
is no space left between the masking tape
and the watercolor paper. Also, try to avoid wide
spaces in between. Now using the same quill
brush of size zero, I have created another
horizontal line. First leaving some
space in between, which is basically
the water body only. We have created this
nice landscape area. Once you create the outline
of the entire landscape area, you can simply fill in
the solid black color in the inner portion. No
need to hurry at all. Try to do this particular step in a very slow and
steady manner. Just apply very less pressure because we are using the
tip of the quill brush. In case you find that there is axis amount of water
in your brush, just simply dab your brush onto the tissue paper so that axis amount of water
will be removed. Now we are painting
some nice rock bodies in the water body area. You can observe
I'm just creating these little shapes and having some solid black color
in the inner portion. Similarly, we have left
some water body space between the mountains and
the landscape area there. Also, you can create
these little rock bodies whenever you want to paint. In a very smaller portion, you can just use the tip
of your quill brush and apply very less pressure on it so that you can paint
in very small portion. Now, in order to enhance
the landscape area, you can just add these little
horizontal strokes near the outline of the
entire landscape portion and the mountain body
that we have painted. In case you find
your brush moving a little bit rough on
the watercolor paper, you can definitely take some more color from
the color palette. Now, in order to create
some nice depth, you can add these little
horizontal strokes below the rock bodies
that we have painted. Now I'll be taking some
more solid black color from the color palette
and we are going to paint a beautiful tree just above the mountain body that we have painted on the left hand side. It's a very simple
and easy technique. You just have to use the tip of your quill brush of size zero. Apply these little strokes
combining together and it forms a natural outline
for an entire tree. As you all know that
trees generally have a very natural and
organic shape. There isn't any specific
way of painting them. You can create your
own composition of the entire tree as well. You can decide a
very natural shape according to your
convenience also. Now once you're done
with the entire outline, you just have to fill in solid black color in the
inner portion. No need to hurry at all. Try to do this particular step in a very slow and
steady manner, and make sure that there is
no space left in between. You can use the tip
of your quill brush to create a very
natural outline. You can just dab your brush and create these nice
dotted structure. This basically replicates
some beautiful leaves. Now using the same tip, I'm just adding these little
branches coming out of the entire bush and combining together to form a
beautiful trunk, which is connected to the
entire mountain body. Try to apply very
less pressure on the brush and use the
tip of your quill brush carefully in case you want to practice it on a rough
scrape of paper initially, and then come towards
your final painting. That is also absolutely fine. Now you can observe that we are done with the entire tree. Now we're going to
add a little bush that is coming inside
the entire scenery. From the top right corner, I'll be just using my
quill brush size zero. Again, using the tip
of your quill brush, you just have to create these little strokes
combining together, forming a nice bush, and then fill in solid black
color in the inner portion. No need to worry
about painting it in the exact same way
I have painted. You can create your
own composition of the entire bush as well. You can play with the shape
and size of the entire bush. You can combine two
to three bushes on the topmost portion. That is also absolutely fine. You're free to explore
and experiment. Now you can observe a
beautiful combination of all the elements together, which includes a
nice landscape area, some rock bodies, few bushes
and elements all together. We can add some nice bush on
the left hand side as well, which is a little bit
smaller than the first one, But the steps are
absolutely same. You just have to create
a very organic outline using the tip of
your quill brush. Just apply these random
strokes and then fill in solid black color
in the inner portion. Just make sure that
there is no space left between the masking tape
and the solid black color. It will not look nice when
you remove the masking tape. After the color dries and you find that there
is a little bit of space left between
the masking tape and the solid black color. Before removing
the masking tape, you can reapply the
solid black color. It is absolutely fine, but try to do that step before
removing the masking tape. Now we're going to add
some nice landscape area on the bottom right
corner as well. You can create the outline first using the tip
of your quill brush. And then you can fill in
solid black color as usual. Just make sure that
there is no space left between the masking tape
and the watercolor paper. Now, using the same method, we're going to paint
few more rock bodies, but this time a
little bit smaller. You just have to apply
very less pressure on the quill brush and apply these little strokes and form some nice rock bodies
in the water body area. Again, I'll be telling
you the same thing. You can create your own
composition as well. You can decide the position
of the rock bodies. You can create your own
composition as well. You're free to explore in order to enhance
the rock bodies, you can add these little
horizontal strokes as well. We are done painting
all the sill outs, now let us add a beautiful sun. I'll be taking my quill
brush of size zero. Take some good amount of
solid white color in it, and just try to paint a
beautiful circular shape. You can decide the position of the sun according to
your convenience. It is absolutely fine. Just try to paint it in a very slow and
steady manner and try to create a nice circular shape. You can observe a
beautiful contrast with the background and the sun
that we have painted now. To create its beautiful
reflection effect, you can just add these
little horizontal strokes near the horizon line
in the water body. As you move towards
the bottom area, you can simply decrease
the size of the strokes. You can also add these
little strokes onto the rock body to enhance
the entire rock body area, which is basically the
reflection effect. Only now we can observe how beautiful the entire
rock body also looks and the landscape area that we have painted on the bottom portion, we are done with
the entire scenery. Now let us remove
the masking tape. No need to add at all. Try to remove the masking
tape in an angle so that you do not end up tearing
your beautiful painting. You can observe a
beautiful white border once we remove the masking tape. This is one of the most
satisfying part as well. Now let me take you a little
bit closer so that you can observe all the
details carefully. I hope that you enjoyed creating this particular painting and
got to learn something new. It's a very simple and minimal scenery that
you can create. Now let us move towards
the next painting.
12. Painting 6 - The House: Everybody, you're
most welcome to the sixth painting,
which is the house. As you can observe,
I'm ready with my watercolor paper and the masking tape on
all the four sides. Now I'm going to
use my Quill brush of size two and we are going to apply a thin coat of water on the entire surface of
the watercolor paper. No need to hurry at all, try to apply an
even coat of water. This is basically known as
a wet on wet technique, in which we apply an even
coat of water initially. And then watercolors, so that the colors can blend
in a nice way. Make sure that there
is no space left between the masking tape
and the watercolor paper. This time we are having the entire sky area in
the background. There is no water body. That's why we have
applied a thin coat of water on the entire surface
of the watercolor paper. I'll be taking some
darker tone of dark green you can observe
in the color palette. I'll be using my Quill
brush of size two only, and simply start applying it
from the topmost portion. No need to hurry at all. And while applying the color, just leave few white
spaces in between. You will observe that the color will spread automatically. And you will also
observe that we are leaving some white
space in between, which somehow gives us
a nice cloud effect. You can take some more darker
tone of dark green and apply bottom portion and slowly move towards
the above area. No need to hurry at all. You can also create
a nice combination of dark green and light green together in case you want a darker tone
of dark green color, try to have less amount
of water and more color. This will basically increase
the saturation of the color. Now you can observe that using
the tip of my Quill brush, I'm just adding these random
strokes which basically creates some nice cloud effect
in the entire background. It's a very simple
and easy technique. Now let the background dry for a while and let us
paint this fill out. I'll be taking some
solid black color in the color palette
and I'll be using my Quill brush of size zero. We're going to start by applying a nice horizontal and
a slopey structure. It's basically a wall
structure in the bottom area. And we're going
to connect a nice house element in between. As you can observe
very carefully, I'm using the tip of
my quill brush and I'm just creating
the outline first. Now let me create
two slopey lines, which is basically the
roof of the entire house. No need to hurry at all. Try to do this particular step in a very slow and
steady manner. You can just apply
some more strokes in the roof of the house to
make it a little bit thicker. You can apply a little
bit of pressure also. Then we'll continue the line again towards the right inside. This is how we have done a basic building structure
in the bottom area. Now take some good amount
of solid black color and apply it in the entire portion
just below the outline. No need to hurry at all. Make sure that there is
no space left in between. And also between
the masking tape and the watercolor paper. That will not look nice when
we remove the masking tape. Right now you can observe
a nice building structure with a beautiful
house in between. We're also going to
enhance the details. What I'm going to do is that
I'm going to use the tip of my quill brush and we are
going to create a nice fence. On the topmost portion, you just have to apply very less pressure and create
this nice horizontal line, creating these two structures. And then vertical lines which is basically replicating the fence. Similarly, I have repeated the same steps in the
right inside as well. Now let us paint some
beautiful chimneys. You just have to create
these rectangular shape. Whenever you want to paint
in a very smaller area, always try to use the
tip of your quill brush. Similarly, I'll be adding the chimney in the
house as well. You can observe how beautiful
the entire scenery looks with a beautiful gradient,
green background. Now I'm going to
add a nice bush on the roof of the house that
we have on the left side. You just have to create
these little strokes, create the outline of
the entire roof first, and then fill in solid black
color in the inner portion. Similarly, we'll be
adding one more bush on the left hand side
building structure as well. It's a very simple
and easy step. You just have to use the
tip of your quill brush. Create these little strokes and convert it into an outline. And then fill in solid black
color in the inner portion. Now we're going to
have a nice lamp post which is going to be on
the right hand side. You just have to take
some good amount of solid black color paint, a beautiful vertical line, and be very much careful
while doing this. Apply very less pressure because we want a
very thin line. Now I'll add one slopey line on the top portion and make
a semicircular shape. If you want to add minor
details into the lamppost, you can just add these little
horizontal lines as well. I'll be painting some
nice tree element which is coming
inside the scenery. In the right hand side, you just have to use the tip of
your quill brush and create these random strokes.
No need to hurry at all. Try to do it in a very
slow and steady manner. As you all know that trees
and bushes generally have a very natural
and organic shape. There isn't no specific
way of painting them. You can create your
own composition. You can play with the shape and size of the entire bush as well. You can also decide the
position of the tree and the bushes according to
your convenience as well. Whenever you're
painting any bush or tree element near
the masking tape and the watercolor paper, make sure that there is no space left while you're applying
a solid black color. Because it will not look nice when we remove the
entire masking tape. Now we're going to add few
more bushes that are coming into the entire scenery and
the step is absolutely same. Just simply take some good
amount of solid black color from the color palette and
apply these little strokes, forming a beautiful
natural outline. No need to hurry at all. Do it in a very slow
and steady manner. Try to keep your hand
very much loose and calm. Once you're done with the
entire natural outline, you can fill in solid black
color in the inner portion. Also, after applying
a solid black patch, you can again take the tip of your quill brush and add these little strokes to enhance the beauty of the entire bush. If you observe carefully, these little strokes basically replicates the leaves
of the entire bush. It's basically part of a huge tree that is coming
in the entire scenery. I'm adding some minor details by adding these little
strokes in the outline. Similarly, we are going
to add few more bushes on the right side
top corner as well. The step is going to
be absolutely same in case you find that your color is getting finished
from the brush, you can definitely take some more color from
the color palette. Also, in case you are not
that much confident enough to paint the bush directly
towards your final painting, you do not want to spoil a
beautiful abstract background. What you can do is you
can practice it on a rough scrape of
paper initially, and then you can come
towards your final painting. This will help you a lot to develop confidence
while painting, and the chances of making
mistakes will be very less. That will also help
you a lot to develop a nice hand movement and how to keep your hand
loose and free while painting. We are done with the
entire sell out element. Now I'll be taking some
solid white color and we're going to add few elements
in the entire scenery. I'll be using my Quill
brush of size zero. Add a little bit of water
into solid white color and apply it in the topmost
portion of the lamp post. You can similarly apply it on the sides of the chimney
to enhance them. Similarly, we are going to take some more solid white color. I'm going to paint
a beautiful sun. You just have to simply
draw a circular shape. You can decide the position of the sun according to
your convenience. It is absolutely fine. Just be a little bit careful and try to draw it in a very
slow and steady manner. Now similarly, I'll be taking some more solid white color
and we're going to paint some nice small windows in the building structure
that we have painted in the bottom area. It's a very simple,
rectangular shape, in a combination of two. Then we want to paint a nice
window for the entire house. You just have to draw
a simple square shape. You can use the tip of your quill brush to
create the outline first, and then fill in solid white
color in the inner portion. It is absolutely fine. No need to hurry
at all and try to get a nice shape while painting. In case you want to have a nice saturation of solid white color, try to have less amount
of water and more color. In case you find that you are having excess amount of
water in your brush, you can simply dab your
brush to the tissue paper. It will help you to remove
excess amount of water. Now, take the same quill
brush of size zero. Take some good amount
of solid black color, and we can just enhance the
details in the windows. It's a very simple
and easy technique. You just have to apply
these strokes on the borders so that the white colored square
becomes very much perfect. Then you can simply add a
vertical and horizontal line, which basically replicates the frame of the entire window. Now you can observe carefully how beautiful the
entire window looks. Similarly, we'll be adding these horizontal and
vertical strokes in the two windows that we painted on the left hand side as well. No need to hurry at all.
Try to do it carefully. We are done with
the entire scenery. Let us remove the masking tape. Try to remove the masking
tape in an angle so that you do not end up tearing
your beautiful painting. If you observe carefully after
removing the masking tape, we get this beautiful
white border. This is one of the
most satisfying part. Let me take you a little
bit closer so that you can observe all
the details carefully. I hope that you enjoyed creating this particular painting and
got to learn something new. Now let us move towards
the next painting.
13. Painting 7 - The Boat: Everybody, you're
most welcome to the seventh painting,
which is the boat. As you can observe,
I'm ready with my watercolor paper and the masking tape on
all the four sides. I'll be using a simple pencil
to draw a horizon line, which is basically a
simple horizontal line which separates the sky
area and the water body. Let us paint the sky area First I'll be using my
Quill brush of size two and we're going
to apply a thin coat of water. No need
to hurry at all. Try to apply an even
coat of water on the entire surface of
the watercolor paper above the horizon line. Make sure that there
is no space left between the masking tape
and the watercolor paper. This is basically
known as a wet on wet technique in which we apply a thin coat of water initially, and then color so
that the colors can spread in a nice way
in the color palette. If you observe carefully,
we are going to take some darker tone of
crimson, red color. Try to make a good composition of color and water together. No need to hurry at all, Mix the color and water
in a nice way. Now we're going to apply the color just above
the horizon line. And it's a simple horizontal
movement as you can observe. Now slowly move towards
the above area, but leave some white
portion on the above side. Now I'll be cleaning
my quill brush and we're going to
take another color. Now this time we're
going to take some nice darker
tone of vermilion. You can observe in
my color palette. Try to make a good composition of water and color together. Try to have less
amount of water so that you can get a
nice saturated color. Start applying it from
the topmost portion, slowly move towards
the bottom area. You will observe a small line of suppression between
both the colors. Just simply use the tip of your oil brush and apply
these horizontal strokes. Now let the background
dry for a while. And now let us paint
the water body. Take some good amount of
color from the water. You can observe it is already colored in some orangish shade, but it is absolutely fine. So you can apply the color
just below the horizon line. Take some darker tone of vermilion from the
color palette. Try to have less
amount of water, and just simply apply it
below the horizon line. You can observe the horizontal movement of my quill brush. No need to hurry at all. Make sure that there is
no space left between the masking tape and
the watercolor paper. Now, I'll be taking my
quill brush of size zero. And we're going to take
some darker tone of crimson red color from
the color palette. And we are going to
enhance the water body. You just have to take some
darker tone of crimson red and apply these little
horizontal strokes just below the horizon line. No need to hurry at all. These are basically waves that
we are painting right now. There is no specific way of adding these horizontal strokes. You can add it in a very
natural and organic manner. You can create your
own composition of these horizontal strokes. Just make sure that you
create an nice cluster of horizontal strokes
near the horizon line. You will also observe nice contrast with
the background color. These horizontal strokes
basically creates a nice depth and detail in
the entire water body area. We are done with the background,
let it dry for a while, and I'll be taking some solid black color in the
color palette, as you can observe, make a good composition of
color and water together. Now, once your background
is completely dry, we are going to
create a nice bush On the topmost portion, I'll be just using the tip of my quill brush of size zero. Add these little strokes, forming a nice bush, and just apply solid black
color in the inner portion. No need to hurry at all. Make sure that you paint it in a very slow and
steady manner. Try to keep your
hand very much loose and calm while you're
painting in detail. Also, whenever you want to
paint in smaller areas, try to use the tip of your quill brush and apply
least pressure on it. Now to enhance the
entire bush area, you can observe I'm adding
these little strokes which are basically replicating
some beautiful leaves. One thing that you can keep
in mind is that whenever you're applying
solid black color near to the masking tape, make sure that there is
no space left between the masking tape and the
color that you're applying. Because it will
not look nice when they remove the masking
tape at the end. It might happen that when the
color is a little bit wet, you're not able to see where the color is not being applied. Wait for the color
to dry for a while, and then you can observe
the empty spaces. In case there are
any empty spaces, you can reapply solid
black color on it. It is absolutely fine. You can observe that
we have created a nice composition of this beautiful bush that
is coming into the, from the top right corner. As you all know that
trees generally have a very natural and
organic shape, you can create your own
composition as well. I'll be painting some nice
rock bodies on the water area. We are starting from
the rock bodies just above the horizon line. You can create the outline of
the rock bodies initially, and then you can fill in solid black color in the
inner portion. Mountains and rock
bodies are also very much natural and they do
have a organic shape. No need to worry
about painting it in the exact same way I'm
painting right now. You can experiment and create your own shapes and sizes
of the mountains as well. Once we have painted few rock bodies just
above the horizon line, we can add few more rock bodies in the water body area as well. It's a very simple
and easy technique. Just simply use the tip
of your quill brush. Apply a little bit
of pressure and try to create these
beautiful shapes. Also, in case you're
not that much confident enough to paint the rock
bodies or even the bushes directly towards your
final painting and you do not want to spoil your
beautiful gradient background. What you can do is you can practice it on a rough
scrape of paper. Initially, you can get a better hand movement and then you can come towards
your final painting. This will help you a lot to develop confidence
while painting, and the chances of making
mistakes will be very less. Now you can observe
that I have added few more rock bodies in the bottom area in
a cluster of three. You can design it in the cluster of four or five rock
bodies as well. Now, in order to get some
nice depth and detail, just take some good amount of solid black color in your brush. In case you find that there is axis amount of water
in your brush, you can dab it onto
the tissue paper so that the axis amount
of water will be removed. Now we can just add a nice reflection effect of the rock body onto
the water area. You just have to create these
little horizontal strokes just below the rock bodies. As you move towards
the bottom area, you can decrease the size of the horizontal
strokes that you're making also apply very less
pressure on the brush. Similarly, we'll be adding
the reflection effect onto the rock bodies on the
right hand side as well. No need to hurry at all. Try to do this particular step in a very slow and
steady manner. Try to keep your hand
very much free and loose. Now we are going to paint the main element of the
entire scenery, which is going to be a
beautiful boat that we are placing in the center
of the entire scenery. So I'll be starting from the top portion of the entire boat, which is basically creating a triangular shape in case you want to grade the outline of the entire triangle
first and then fill in solid black
color inside. That is also absolutely fine. Try to paint it in a very
slow and steady manner. Use the tip of your quill brush
to paint in smaller area, apply very less pressure. Now similarly, I have
added one more string, which is basically a
rope in the entire boat. Now we are going to paint the entire body of the boat as well. You can just create a
nice horizontal stroke, no need to hurry at all. Just paint it in a very
slow and steady manner. You can carefully observe
the movement of my brush. It's a very simple and easy
technique to paint a boat. Now to create its
reflection effect, we are going to follow
the same steps. You just have to create
these horizontal strokes just on the bottom part
of the entire boat. As you move towards
the bottom area, just decrease the size of the
strokes that you're making. This basically
creates a nice depth to the entire boat as well, and its reflection effect
onto the water area. In case you find any
empty spaces in between, you can fill in solid
black color inside. We are done with
the entire scenery. Now let us remove
the masking tape. Try to remove the
masking tape in an angle so that you
do not end up tearing. Your beautiful painting can observe a beautiful wide border as we remove the masking tape. This is one of the most
satisfying part as well. Let me take you a little
bit closer so that you can observe all
the details carefully. I hope that you enjoyed creating this particular painting and
got to learn something new. It's a simple scenery
with minimal elements. You will definitely
enjoy painting it. Now let us move towards
the next painting.
14. Painting 8 - Green Sunset: Hey everybody. You're most welcome to the eighth painting, which is green sunset. As you can observe,
I'm ready with my watercolor paper and the masking tape on
all the four sides. I'll be using my pencil
to draw a horizon line, which is basically a
simple horizontal line separating the sky area
and the water body. We are going to paint
the sky area first, I'll be taking my Quill
brush of size two and we're going to apply a
thin coat of water initially, no need to hurry at all. Try to apply an even coat of water just above
the horizon line. Make sure that there
is no space left between the masking tape
and the watercolor paper. The first color that I'm
taking is dark green, and it's a combination of dark green and light green together. Try to take a darker
tone of dark green and just apply it above
the horizon line. No need to hurry at all. Just apply a simple
horizontal movement of the brush and slowly move
towards the above area. In case you want to
have a darker tone near the horizon line. You can take some
more darker values of dark green and apply
another horizontal stroke. Now slowly cover the entire
area on the topmost portion. Now to create a beautiful
gradient effect in the sky area, we're going to take
some solid white color. Just simply clean your
quill brush in water. Take some good amount of solid
white color in your brush. No need to hurry at all. Make a good composition of
color and water together. Start applying it from
the topmost portion and slowly move towards
the bottom area. You will observe a
nice gradient effect of light green and
dark green together. The more horizontal
strokes you'll apply, the better blend you'll get. You can carefully observe the movement of my
quill brush as well. Now let us paint the
water body as well. I'll be taking some nice light green from
the color palette. As you can observe, make a good composition of
color and water together. Try to have more
color and less water. Now this time we're applying it just below the horizon line. No need to hurry at
all. Just try to paint it in a slow
and steady manner. Make sure that there
is no space left between the masking tape
and the watercolor paper. Now, once we have applied the light green color
on the entire surface, we are going to also create
a nice gradient effect here. The more horizontal
strokes you apply, the better color
application you'll get. Now simply clean your
quill brush in water. And again, we are going to take some nice solid white color, try to mix it well with water, Try to have less amount of water and start applying it
from the bottom portion. And slowly move towards
the above area. In case you find that there is axis amount of water
in your brush, you can definitely dab your
brush to the tissue paper, it will remove axis
amount of water. Now let the background
dry for a while and you'll observe a
nice gradient effect. Now in the color
palette, I'm going to take some solid black color. No need to hurry at all. Make a good combination of solid black color
and water together. Try to have more
color and less water, so that you get a nice
saturation of solid black color. And we are going to paint
some nice mountain bodies just above the horizon line. You can observe
that I have created a nice outline of the
entire mountain body. And then you have to fill
in solid black color. In the inner portion,
we have painted a nice huge mountain
body on the left side. Similarly, you're going to paint some beautiful mountain bodies on the right hand side as well. You can leave a little bit of space in between
and then start painting the mountain
bodies you can observe. Again, we have created
a nice outline for the entire mountain body. You can use the tip of your quill brush to
paint the outline first. Once you're done
with the outline, then you can fill in solid black color in the
inner portion. Be a little bit
careful while you are applying solid
black color in the inner portion
so that you do not go outside the outline
that you have created. Mountains generally have a very natural and
organic shape. It is not at all compulsory
for you to paint it in the exact same way I
have painted right now. You can create your
own composition of the mountains as well. You can play with the
shape and sizes as well. Now I have added few more rock
bodies in the water area. It's a very simple
and easy step. These are basically
very much smaller than the first mountains
that we painted. You just have to create
these little black patches. Just simply use the tip of your quill brush to
paint in smaller areas. No need to hurry at all. Try to paint it in
a very slow and steady manner in
case you're not that much confident enough
to paint the mountains and the rock bodies directly
towards your final painting, and you do not want to spoil your beautiful
gradient background. You can simply practice it on a rough scrape of
paper initially, and then you can come
towards your final painting. Now let us add some
nice reflection effect of the mountain bodies. You have to just create these little horizontal strokes,
no need to hurry at all. Just apply least pressure
on your quill brush. Use the tip of your
quill brush and add these little horizontal strokes just below the mountain body. This basically
creates a nice depth and detail to the
entire mountain body. And it looks a little bit
more realistic and in depth you can observe carefully as we move
towards the bottom area, you can decrease the size
of the horizontal strokes. Now take some more
solid black color from the water color tub and add
some good amount of water. Make a good composition of
color and water together. Try to have less amount
of water so that you can get a nice saturation
of solid black color. Now we are going to paint some plantations in the bottom area. It's going to be a very
natural and random process. You just have to use the tip of your quill brush
of size zero. Add these little strokes
and combine them together, a beautiful, natural
organic outline. You can observe a variation in the shape of the
entire outline. Once you're done
with the outline, you just have to fill
in solid black color in the inner portion in case you find that your color is getting finished
from the brush, you can take some more color
from the color palette. Now you can observe
a beautiful fill out of a plantation
in the bottom area. Now similarly,
we're going to add few more bushes on
the topmost portion, You just have to create
these little strokes, paint some nice smaller bushes. Once you're done with the bush, you can simply connect it
with the plantation in the bottom area Using the
tip of your quill brush. Just add these
little two strokes connecting it with the
bush on the bottom area. No need to hurry at all. Try to paint it in a very
slow and steady manner. You can also play
with the shape and size of the entire bush that
we're painting right now. Let's be very much
careful because it's a very smaller portion
where we are painting. Try to apply very less pressure and use the tip of
your quill brush. Now you can observe
that we're done with the plantation in
the bottom area. Now I'll be taking
some solid white color in my quill brush size zero. And we're going to paint a
beautiful sun in the sky area. Add a little bit of
water so that you get a nice composition of
color and water together. Simply paint a circular shape in between the mountains
that we have created. It's a small, circular shape. Try to paint it very slowly. Now to enhance the
mountain body, we are just using the
tip of the quill brush. And adding these little strokes, it enhances the
entire water body. Now let us paint a
beautiful reflection effect of the sun into the water area. It's a very simple
and easy technique. You just have to apply
these horizontal strokes as you move towards
the bottom area, Simply decrease the size of the horizontal strokes
that you're making. No need to hurry at all.
Try to apply less pressure. We're done with the
entire scenery. Now let us remove
the masking tape. Try to remove the masking
tape in an angle so that you do not end up tearing
your beautiful painting. This is one of the
most satisfying part. Let me take you a little
bit closer so that you can observe all
the details carefully. I hope that you enjoyed creating this particular painting and
got to learn something new. You can definitely experiment and explore with
the entire scenery. You can create your own
composition as well. Now let us move towards
the next painting.
15. Painting 9 - The Tree: Everybody, you're
most welcome to the ninth painting,
which is the tree. As you can observe,
I'm ready with my watercolor paper with the masking tape on
all the four sides. Now I'll be taking my
Quill Bra Shove size two. And we're going to
apply a thin coat of water on the entire surface
of the watercolor paper. No need to hurry at all. Try to apply an
even coat of water. Make sure that there
is no space left between the masking tape
and the watercolor paper. Now we are going to take
some nice darker values of purple from the
color palette. No need to hurry at
all. Try to make a good combination of
color and water together. Try to have less amount
of water and more color. Now you can observe
I'm starting from the topmost portion and we just have to apply
these random strokes. No need to hurry at all. Just leave some white
space in between. Now, simply clean your
quill brush and we're going to take some nice amount
of ceruline blue. Make sure that you take
a nice saturated color. Try to have less amount
of water and more color. Now, this time, apply it from the bottom portion and slowly move towards the above area. You can observe as we move
towards the above area, I'm using the tip
of my quill brush. You can also fill in the
white portion that you left. No need to worry about the smaller white
portions that are being left that basically replicates the clouds
in the entire painting. It's an abstract background, no need to worry about
the output as well. You can simply use
the tip of the brush to create these random
strokes in between. On the topmost portion also, you can apply these darker
tones of Celine Blue. You can also carefully observe the movement
of my Quill brush, the way I'm trying to apply these strokes in a
very random way. Now, let the background
dry for a while and take some good amount of solid black color in the
color palette. Mix it well with water, try to make a good composition of color and water together. We're going to paint some nice plantation in the bottom area. I'm starting from
the left hand side. You can just add
these little strokes, forming some nice plantation
in the bottom portion. It's a very simple
and easy technique. You just have to use the
tip of your quill brush. You can apply a
nice random surface on the entire portion,
on the bottom area. Just make sure that
there is no space left between the masking tape
and the watercolor paper. Now using the tip
of my quill brush, I'll be just adding these
little strokes which basically replicate
some nice grass on the entire surface. No need to hurry at all. Just apply very less pressure
on your quill brush of size zero and make these
little strokes forming some beautiful grass
on the entire surface. Also, make sure that you
do not leave any space between the masking tape
and the watercolor paper. It will not look nice when they remove the
entire masking tape. Now once we are done painting
the entire plantation area, in the bottom portion, they're going to paint
a beautiful tree, which is going to
be really huge. Also, in case you find it
a little bit difficult to add the plantations directly
towards your final painting, what you can do is you
can practice it on a rough scrape of
paper initially, and then you can come
towards your final painting. Now let us paint
a beautiful tree. So I'll be using my same brush, which is basically a
quill brush of size zero and we're going to
create the outline first, you just have to combine these
little strokes together, forming a beautiful
sellout of an entire tree. And then you have to fill
in solid black color in the inside portion. Make sure that you do not have axis amount of water
in your brush. In case you have axis amount
of water in your brush, just simply dab it
onto the tissue paper. Try to make a good combination of color and water together. Now using the tip of
your quill brush, again, you can just enhance the
entire outline by creating these little dotted
structure which basically replicates the
leaves of an entire tree. Also, as you all know
that trees generally have a very natural and
organic shape in case you want to create your own composition of the entire bush, you can definitely do that. You can also play with the shape and size of the entire tree. You can also decide the
position of the tree as well. Now let us connect it with the plantations that we have
painted on the bottom area. Be very much careful
and try to do this particular step very
slowly and in a steady manner. You just have to connect these little branches coming in a very natural way
from the bush, connecting it with the
plantation in the bottom area, we are done with
the entire tree. Now let us take some
solid white color, add a little bit of water, and make a good composition
of color and water together. And simply draw this
circular shape. You can decide the position of the sun according to your
convenience as well. It is absolutely fine. You can observe a
beautiful contrast of the sun with the background. We are done with
the entire scenery. Now let us remove
the masking tape. No need to hurry at
all. Try to remove the masking tape in a very
slow and steady manner. Remove the masking tape
in an angle so that you do not end up tearing
your beautiful painting. This is one of the
most satisfying. Now let me take you
a little bit closer so that you can observe
all the details carefully. I hope that you enjoyed creating this particular painting and
got to learn something new. You're free to explore
and experiment with the entire scenery and
create your own composition. Now let us move towards
the next painting.
16. Painting 10 - Blue Lake: Hey everybody. You're most
welcome to the tenth painting, which is the last painting
of the entire class, which is a blue lake. So as you can observe that, I'm ready with my
watercolor paper and the masking tape
on the borders. Let us start by applying a thin coat of water
on the entire paper. I'll be taking my Quill
brush of size two. Take some good amount
of clear water and apply a thin coat of water on the entire watercolor paper. No need to hurry at all. Try to apply an even coat of water and make
sure that there is no space left between the masking tape and
the watercolor paper. This is basically known as
a wet on wet technique, in which we apply a thin
coat of water initially and then the water color so that the colors can
blend in a nice way. I'll be taking some darker
values of ceruline blue from the color palette and just apply it from
the topmost portion. That's a very simple
and random movement. No need to worry about that. You can observe that I'm leaving some white space in
between as well. These white spaces
basically replicate some beautiful clouds
and it will come out in a very natural
and abstract manner. I'll be taking some darker
values of bald blue. You can just observe the way I'm adding it in between
the white spaces. You just have to
apply the strokes in a very random
and natural way. There isn't any specific
way of applying them, since it's an
abstract background. Slowly, I'll be applying it in the bottom portion as well, and you can move
towards the above area. Now simply use the tip of your quill brush to add these
little horizontal strokes, you will observe a
beautiful combination of cobalt blue and
ceruline blue together. In order to get darker
tone in your brush, you can definitely
have less amount of water and more color. You'll observe a better contrast between both the
colors together. Try to have a good composition of water and color together. In case you find that there is axis amount of water
in your brush, you can definitely dab your
brush to the tissue paper. It will remove axis amount
of water from your brush. Now let the background
dry for a while and let us take some solid black
color in the color palette. Try to make a good composition of solid black color
and water together. Because we want to have a
good saturated black color. Try to have more amount
of color and less water. You can observe in
the color palette, the way I'm mixing it. I'll be using my
Quill brush of size zero before we start
painting the entire scenery. In this particular scenery, we are going to have
a good combination of mountains, pine trees, and a beautiful lake that is going to be in
the entire scenery. As you can observe, I have drawn a simple horizontal line
and we are trying to create the outline first using
the tip of my quill brush. I have painted two
beautiful hills on the left hand portion. Once you're done with
the entire outline, you can fill in solid black
color in the inner portion. Just make sure that you do it in a very slow and
steady manner. No need to hurry at all. Also, in case you
want to play with the composition of the
mountains and the trees, that is absolutely fine. You can do it according
to your convenience. Now let us create a
beautiful outline which will replicate
the entire lake. You can observe I have created a curved line on the
left hand portion. Similarly, we'll be adding it on the right
hand side as well, so it creates a nice outline
for the entire lake. Then you can fill in solid black color in the
remaining portion, leaving the entire space in between wherever you want
to paint in a smaller area. Definitely, you have to use
the tip of your quill brush, and you can observe the movement of my quill brush as well. Whenever you are applying
solid black color, make sure that you do not
leave any space in between because it will not look nice when the entire
color dries up. Right now, when
the color is wet, you might not observe
little spaces, but once it dries, you can definitely
observe the spaces and fill in the solid
black color again. Now you can observe
the lake is very much clearer and we have applied the solid black
color in a nice way. Now you can enhance the entire
landscape area by adding these little horizontal strokes in the outline of
the entire lake. You will observe that
the entire blue body looks really amazing. Now we can add few
more rock bodies by applying the
solid black color. I'm just adding these
little black patches now Let us paint some beautiful pine trees in the right inside. You can just start by applying these little vertical lines. One is a little bit bigger and another one is a
little bit smaller. You can use the tip of your quill brush and start
applying these little strokes from the topmost portion and slowly move towards
the bottom area. By increasing the size of the
strokes that you're making. It's a very random
and natural way of painting the pine trees. It's a very easy step. No need to worry about that in case you find that your color is getting finished
from the brush, you can take some more color
from the color palette. In case you find that there is axis amount of water
in your brush, then you can definitely dab your brush to the tissue paper. That axis amount of water
will be removed in case you're not that much
confident enough to paint the pine trees directly
towards your final painting. You do not want to spoil your beautiful
abstract background. What you can do is you
can practice it on a rough scrape of
paper initially, and then you can come
towards your final painting. This will help you to
develop confidence and the chances of making
mistakes will be very less. Now I'll be using my Quill brush of size zero and we'll be taking some solid white color to make a good composition of
color and water together. And just draw a circular
shape in between the hills, you can decide the
position of the sun according to your
convenience as well. I have added two little icebergs in the water body as well, by creating these
little white patches to create some nice aesthetic
to the entire painting. Similarly, you can add few more icebergs on the
left hand side as well. You can observe by adding
minimal elements together, we created a beautiful scenery. In case you find
that the saturation of white color is
a little bit less, then try to have less amount
of water and more color. We are done with
the entire scenery. Let me remove the masking
tape. No need to hurry at all. Try to remove the masking
tape in an angle so that you do not end up tearing
your beautiful painting. This is one of the
most satisfying part, and you can observe a
beautiful white border as you remove the
entire masking tape. Now let me take you a
little bit closer so that you can observe all
the details carefully. I hope that you enjoyed creating this particular class project and got to learn something new. You're free to explore and experiment with the
entire scenery. You can create your own
composition as well. Now let us move
towards the next part.
17. Class Conclusion: I personally believe
that anyone can paint. Art is something that brings me a lot of peace and happiness. There are no boundaries, rules and regulations in art. You're always free to
experiment and explore while you're painting or creating
any piece of artwork. Watercolor is a very
versatile artistic medium that anyone can explore. Start with basic techniques, and slowly you'll
see an improvement. One thing that I always suggest my students is to
maintain an art journal in which you can practice on a regular basis and keep
a record of your artwork. While I was creating
this particular class, I made a lot of mistakes. That is something I
always tell my students, never to be afraid
of making mistakes. I will be very
excited to see all of your class projects into
the project gallery. It would be great if you try to complete all
the ten paintings. Feel free to ask any questions or doubts you have
related to the class. I would be really happy
to answer them all. It would be really great if you leave a review for
the class as it encourages me a lot and my class can reach many more
students like you. I'm very happy to share
this class with all of you. At the end, I would like to say keep practicing, keep learning. Thank you so much for
joining and happy painting.
