3. Why Your Instagram Profile Matters: Welcome to our very
first lesson where we'll navigate the
complexities of optimizing your Instagram account
to attract and retain followers ultimately building
your online community. Whether you are an
individual seeking personal growth or a business striving for online visibility. The steps provided here will set you on the path to
Instagram success. From curating an attention
grabbing display photo to strategically crafting
your Instagram bio. Every element plays a role in enhancing the overall
allure of your account. This guide will take you step by step through the
optimization process, providing practical insights and actionable tips to level
up your Instagram game. But before we dive in, let's talk about why your
Instagram profile matters. First and foremost, it's
about first impressions. Your Instagram profile serves as the initial encounter
users have with your brand or business
on the platform. A well crafted profile
can instantly capture attention and inspire users to explore your content further. Next up is brand identity. Your profile is a
canvas to showcase your brand identity
and personality. Through elements like
your profile picture, bio highlights, you have the chance
to communicate your brand's values, tone, and aesthetic, laying
the foundation for a robust brand
presence on Instagram. Now, let's consider
engagement and connection. A compelling profile not
only attracts followers, but also encourages
engagement with your content. When users feel a connection and resonate with
your messaging, they are more
likely to interact, leaving comments and sharing
your content with others. Moving on to discoverability. An optimized Instagram profile boosts your chances of
being discovered by users, searching for relevant
content or accounts. Incorporating
keywords in your bio, using hashtag strategically
and mentioning relevant accounts can enhance your visibility attracting
new followers organically. Lastly, credibility and trust. A professional looking profile builds credibility
and fosters trust. A cohesive and
polished presence on Instagram enhances your
brand's reputation, making users more likely to perceive it as
reputable and trust. In summary, your
Instagram profile is a critical component of your Instagram
marketing strategy. Acting as the gateway to
your brand and playing a vital role in attracting and engaging your
target audience. By dedicating time and effort
to optimize your profile, you can amplify the impact of your Instagram
marketing efforts and achieve your business
objectives more effectively. In the upcoming lessons, I will guide you through
the practical steps of achieving this.
See you there.
4. Captivating Display Photo: In this lesson, we will
explore your display photo, also known as your
profile picture and why it matters for your
brand's presence on Instagram. First off, your
display photo is often the first impression users
have of your profile. It's the initial visual cue
that helps them recognize your brand amidst the vast
sea of content on Instagram. Consistency across all
your online platforms reinforces brand recognition and fosters trust with
your audience. Your display photo
contributes significantly to your brand's visual
identity on Instagram. It should reflect your
brand's aesthetics, colors, and overall style. A visually appealing and
cohesive display photo, has the power to grab
users attention and entice them to explore your
profile and content further. Having a high quality and professional looking
display photo speaks volumes about your brand's professionalism
and credibility. It sends a message
that you prioritize quality and care about your
brand's image on Instagram. Moreover, your display
photo has the potential to evoke emotions and feelings that resonate with
your target audience. Whether it's your brand logo, a mascot, or a symbol
representing your values, your display photo can forge an emotional
connection with users, fostering loyalty and
affinity towards your brand. In summary, your
display photo is a critical component of your Instagram
marketing strategy. It serves as a visual
representation of your brand, enhances brand recognition
and identity and plays a pivotal role in attracting and engaging your target
audience on the platform. Therefore, choosing a display
photo that aligns with your brand's aesthetics
and values is key to achieving your marketing
objectives effectively. Now, let's apply these insights to a sample cake business, Pink sugar, New York. All right. So now, since this
is a business, we will choose a high quality
logo for our display photo. So for our sample cake business, Pink Sugar, New York, I have created a
sample logo on Canva, and I will walk you
through on how to download high quality logo and upload
it as your display photo. Make sure that you have a Canva account or
Canva up on your phone. So let's click the Kiva app. To create a logo, simply click the plus button, and you can choose the
logo option in here, the 500 by 500 pixels. But for me, I use the Instagram
post square dimensions, the ten 80 by ten 80 pixels so that I will have a high
quality logo for my business, and I will just resize it later. The first thing that I did
is just to check out the logo designs available on
Canva to get some ideas. I just used the search
bar and look for cupcake. Okay. There are a lot of designs available that you can
tweak and make it your own. At this point, I have created
a logo already a while ago, and what we will do is to
export it on your phone for you to be able to upload a
high quality brand logo. I've created a logo awhile ago, and I got the idea from one of the Canva templates
inside Canva library. I tweaked it and changed
the colors, the texts, and some elements to make it unique to my brand to
my business. All right. So we have here a nice
logo pink sugar, New York, and the design size is ten 80 by ten 80 pixels or Instagram
post square size. What we want is to download
it in our mobile device so that we can upload it
to our Instagram account. To do that, click this
share button up here, and then click download. So before downloading, we have here a ton of options
that you can choose from. So we have here PNG, PDF, and other design formats
that you can use. You can even make
your background transparent if you are
using a bra Pro account. Since this is one page only, so we don't have to
choose any pages yet. And then just click download. Then wait for the design to
be downloaded on your device. So now the design is
available on my device. It's now time to upload
your display photo. So let's go to Instagram. And then let's go to our
newly created account. Simply go to your profile and then choose the plus button, and then you have your options, add profile photo or
add to your story. What we want is to add a profile photo or
a display photo. Click Add profile photo. And then you have options here. You can choose from library, import from Facebook, and
you can take a photo. You also have an option
to create your avatar. Let's choose the
choose from Library. Look at our album. We got here the
artwork that we just made or we just
downloaded from Canva. And make sure that it is within the circle or the frame
that Instagram has. That is why I always choose
the Instagram square size, and I make sure that it's within that dimension or artwork size. So we have here Pink
Sugar, New York, check it out and make sure that all of the elements
on your design is visible. Make sure that your
texts are also visible because later once
you visit the profile, the display photo is just a
tiny part of your profile. Make sure also
that you are using a high quality version
of your artwork. So far, I'm happy with how
it looks on my screen. Let's choose done. There, you can see
that we have added a high quality display photo
on our Instagram account. We can see the visuals, we can see the cupcake, we can see the brand name and all the elements
in our design. And by the way, if your
account is just newly created, you would see a new icon just below your display
photo on your Instagram account so that people can
check out that you have a new Instagram account
or Instagram page. And if people want to see
your logo on a bigger size, they just have to click the
logo or the display photo, and it will show up like this. They can see all the designs. That is why it's
important to use a high quality logo or image. In the next lesson, we'll explore SEO
friendly user name and account name.
I'll see you there.
5. SEO-friendly User Name and Account Name: Okay. Now, let's jump to your
username and account name. Choose a user name
that is easy to remember and reflects
your identity or brand. Then assign an SEO
friendly account name to your Instagram account. A good example would be Maya
Nicole's Instagram account. Beside her name, she added, IG expert and business coach. That means when people
go to her account, they would instantly know
that her contents are mostly Instagram related tips and
about her coaching programs. Another good example is Paula's
choice Instagram account. There's a simple.
Their account name is Paula's Choice skincare. They combine their brand
name plus what they offer. It's that simple. People would know that they sell
skincare products. Now take note that
you can only change your name twice within 14 days. You can also pop in pronouns in your profile if it's
applicable to you. This is great for creators and personal brands so people
can address them properly. Now we will continue optimizing
your Instagram account. Again, we are using our
sample cake business, Pink Sugar, New York
for this exercise. So at this point, we are optimizing your user
name and account name. But before we do that, since this is a business, we will transform
this personal account into a business
account on Instagram. To do that, go to
your profile by clicking the logo at the
bottom right of your screen. And then choose the
hamburger menu or the three lines on the upper
right corner of your screen. So that opens up
your settings and it's scroll down and labeled
under four professionals. Let's choose the
account type and tools. You have options here. We can switch to a
professional account. We can add a new professional
account and so on. In here, you'll also
see the tools that you can use such as branded tools, request verification, and
sign up for meta verified. What we want to choose is to click the switch two
professional account. This is free for all businesses. As mentioned earlier,
you have two options. You can either create a creator account or
a business account. But since this is a business, we are choosing the
business account. Then just click continue. With a professional account, you can reach more people. You can get new
contact options and a lot of tools that helps
businesses and creators. Let's click continue. Choose the best category that describes your
brand or your business. You have here a lot of options such as artist,
digital creator, entrepreneur, restaurant, shopping, video
creator, and more. We can choose restaurant. Since we are a bake shop. You have an option to display your category on
your profile or not. Simply by toggling
this on or off. Let's toggle this on the category will be
shown on our profile. Once you're done,
just click done. Just wait a while for
your account to be ready. Now you have two options. Are you a business or a creator? For a business account, this is best for retailers, local businesses, brands, organizations, and
service providers. Now for creator account, this is best for public figures, content producers,
artists, and influencers. We are choosing the business
account. Just click next. Make sure that
business is chosen in the two options
and then click next. Now, you have an option to add your contact details and business address to
your Instagram profile. So you can add this later
or you can do it now. You have an option to connect a Facebook account to
your Instagram account. This is best specially for
businesses so that people or your customers can easily locate your Facebook and
your Instagram account. We are skipping for now. Instagram offers
you steps on how you can set up your
professional account. They have listed
down the steps that you will be needing
for you to be able to completely set up your
professional account. And there you go. Now, moving on to your user name
and Instagram name. When we are setting up or
creating this account earlier, we already assigned a user
name which is pink Sugar NY. This is available, and no other accounts use
this specific user name. Now, what we want to do is to assign an account name
or Instagram name. So take note that an Instagram name or account
name is SEO friendly. So make sure that
you are searchable so that people can search
for your business, for your Instagram account. My advice is this. Since we are a cake business and we are based in New York, I would suggest to
include what niche or industry you are in and
where you are located. Let's try four keywords. First, let's look for
cake shop in New York. So to do that, simply go to your search bar and type
in cake in New York, and it shows you content
that is Take in New York. But now let's go to
accounts You have here a lot of different options similar with that keyword. Take note, the account
name is seen at the bottom of the user name when you are searching
for accounts. We have here custom
cakes in New York, bakery in New York. What you want is
for people to be searching for that specific
keyword on Instagram. I think cakes in
New York would do, but let's try to search
for more keywords. How about Bakshop in New York. Okay. There's no results found
for bake shop in New York, meaning people are not
searching for this keyword and other Instagram accounts are
also not using this keyword. And let's try one more. New York Bakshop. Let's go to accounts again. There are a few
Instagram accounts that uses New York bake shop. But unlike the
cakes in New York, there are a lot of
people in Instagram account that uses that
same account name. Why not we use that? Now it's time to assign
the account name. Go to your profile and
choose Edit profile. Okay. And at the top, you would see the name. Instagram has some
notes in here, it says, help people discover
your account by using the name you are known by
either your full name, your business name, and
take note that you can only change your name
twice in 14 days. Let's try cakes in New York. Once you're happy, click Done. Are you sure you want to
change your name if you are, just click Change name. There you have already
assigned a name. At this point, you can also add pronouns to your page if
this is relevant to you, especially if you are using a creator account so that people can address you properly. To do that, just simply
go to pronounce and then choose the language and add your pronounce
off the top here. You also have an option that
says show to followers only. So when this is turned on, only people who follow you
will see your pronouns. For our sample cake business, you don't want to add any
pronouns for now there. You will see that you have added a name on your
Instagram account. So we have your
cakes in New York, and under that, you have
your business category. In the next lesson, we'll talk about assigning a business category
on Instagram.
6. Assigning a Business Category: Next, we have business category. This can help
potential customers or followers find you easier. This is done when
you are switching your account to a
professional account. For creator accounts, you have an option to hide the business
category and that's it. Easy. In the next lesson, we'll move on to writing a
compelling Instagram bio
7. Writing a Compelling Instagram Bio: Moving on to my favorite
part, the Instagram bio. Your Instagram bio is
limited to 150 characters, so be very intentional
in writing your bio. Now your bio should
include what you do, how you help who you help and your most recent
win or offers. Now, let's divide your bio into three to four lines while
looking at some examples. Let's look at Cody
Sanchez Instagram bio. The first line is creating
owners. That's what she does. She teaches people how
to be entrepreneurs. Then the second line is small
business plus PE investor. This talks about who she helps. Then the third line is more
details of what she does. She's the founder of the Ctraan thinking
and Ctraan community. In here, she used the
at or mention feature. You can actually
mention relevant Instagram accounts in your bio. Then she finally wraps it
up with a free resource, which is her news letter. Moving on, we will now
optimize your Instagram bio. In crafting your bio, you want to be intentional
on what you want to add on your bio because it is only
limited to 150 characters. I already have a sample
bio in my notes app. Your bio should talk
about who you are as a business or a
brand or a creator, who you help, how you help
and your most recent win, your free offers, and
a call to action line. So I have created an Instagram bio for
Pink sugar, New York. So the first line we have here decadent desserts to
celebrate every milestone. That is all about our brand. So we offer desserts for celebrations for different
kinds of celebrations. For every milestone
of our customers. So from birthdays to weddings and all that,
we cater to that. Next, I added here custom and signature cakes because we offer
custom made cakes, and we also have
signature design cakes that they can choose from. And another one, we have cake delivery and
online ordering. So I want to share the convenience that we
offer to our clients. So we have in house
cake delivery and online ordering option. And then lastly,
for the last line, this doubles as talking
about our offers, our free offers, and also our CTA or call to
action line for our website. So we have here free guide
to planning the best party, and then I have an arrow down, which points to the link that
we will be adding later. So that is all about
our Instagram bio. What we want is to add
this to our profile. So I have to select
all and then choose copy and go to Instagram and choose edit profile
and go to bio. Now, as you can see, we have here a character
counter at the bottom. To make sure that we are only
limited to 150 characters. So simply press and
then paste. And there. Since we have a few
characters left, we can add emojis that
is fit for every line. Our first line, we can
add a celebration emoji. Then the second line,
we can add cakes, And the third line. We can add just part
of MOG, and there. Once you're happy with your
bio, you can double check. If you have added
more characters, it says here, negative one, so you have to delete one character for you to be able to proceed
to the next step. Once you're happy, click done. You can optimize and
tweak this as you go doesn't have to be
perfect on the first try. Let's check out your
profile. There you have it. We have added an Instagram bio for our sample cake business, Pink Sugar, New York. I hope that was insightful. Next, we'll explore adding
links to your profile.
8. Links you can Add to your Profile: Next, we have links. You can actually add multiple links to your
Instagram account. You can add a link
to your website, your latest offer a link to
your freebie, and the like. Included in the link
section is a link to your Facebook page and Facebook profile connected
to your account. This is great for both
personal brands and businesses to easily locate your official
Facebook page or profile. Now, we will be adding links to our Instagram profile
or Instagram account. Instagram allows you to add external links and also
link a Facebook profile, a Facebook account to
your Instagram account. This is great for
easy reference for your customers so
that they can easily locate your Instagram page or your Instagram profile
and also your website. I already copied a
link that I have, so I'm currently
using a link tree. This is a link in bio tool that I use for my
personal business. But for now, we are using
this since we don't have a website for Pink
Sugar, New York yet. So let's try to add a link
to our Instagram profile. So to do that, click
the Edit profile, and then go to Links. Click Add links, and you can add an external link or you can
add a Facebook profile. Let's add an external link, and let's paste the
link here that we have and add a title
for that link. Let's say visit our website. In CTA or call to action. Then once you're done, click Done, You can add more links to your
profile if you want. For example, you're
adding a link to our menu to your website, to your newsletter,
and all that. You also have an option to
add a Facebook profile. To do that, simply click the Add Facebook profile and follow all the steps
on your screen. Okay. So going back to
your dit profile menu, you will see here links, and under links, you have one. So you have added one link. Let's try to look at
your profile. So there. Looking at your profile
Pink sugar New York, you can see there there's a link icon and then
link to your website. When you click that, it will open up the link
that you have added. So I want to show
another example for my own Instagram account,
Christine Socials. I have added several links. So my link will
show up like this. You can see the link here
and says, and one more. So let's try to click. So there, there will be
a pop up window that displays all the
links that you have added to your Instagram profile. So first, I have my link tree. So it says, check out my links. And another link
that I have added is the link to my
skill share class. So first, let's check
out the S. Link tree. So it's the same as what
I've added earlier. And another one, the other
link is the skill share class. It opens up like this. But that is all about links. In the next lesson. I will share with you the
must have contact options.
9. Must-have Contact Options: Next, we have contact options. Here we have your
e mail address, phone number, business address, and what's app phone number. This is important, especially
for businesses who wants people to contact them for inquiries or visit their store. In the next lesson, I will share with you
how you can create a catalog style
Instagram highlights.
10. Catalog-style Instagram Highlights: Then we have highlights. Highlights are great to showcase important content
on your profile. You can add about contact, resources, FAQs, and more. These serve as your catalogue, people can check out once
they visit your account. Use visually appealing
cover images for each highlight to
make your profile more attractive which
you can create on Canva using an Instagram
story artwork size. Make sure you incorporate your branding in
your highlights too. We are moving on to
Instagram highlights. First, what we want
is to post a story so that we can add something
to our Instagram highlights. To post a story, simply click the plus button on your
logo or display photo. And then post your
story for the day. You can post different
stories that you want to add. You can post a story by
clicking the plus button up here and then choose
story from the pop up, and then choose your story. We can add pals let's
share another one. What we want is to
share four stories. There you go. We already
have our stories, and let's try to view
our stories there. We have four stories
because we will be adding four highlights
on your profile. To create your Instagram
highlight covers, you can again go
to Canva to design your branded covers for
your Instagram highlights. Choose a new design and then
choose Instagram story size. That is ten 80 by 1920 pixels. There. From here, you can start creating your Instagram
highlights covers. That is aligned
to your branding, your branding colors, texts, elements, and it's up to you. I have here a pre made Instagram highlights covers that I have created a while ago. So we have here menu
FAQ, reviews and store. Those are basically
what you want to add to your Instagram
highlights so that people visiting your profile can easily see what they want
to see on your profile. So for example, you
are a cake business. What they want to see
is the menu, right? And what they want
to see as well is some frequently asked
questions by customers. Maybe they want to
see the reviews. And finally, they want to see store information such
as store locations, website, store
hours, and all that. So make sure that you are
intentional in adding your Instagram highlights and make an on brand cover for it. What we want is to download
this on my device. So click the share button
there and click download. And then we are choosing
the four pages. Page one to page four. And then once it's chosen, click Done, and wait
for it to load. So take note that I am
downloading it as a PNG file. All right. Now it's ready. Okay. So we have posted
some stories a while ago. So now we will create a highlight
and add a cover for it. So let's view our story. So we have here the first one. And as you can see, there are options at the
bottom part of your screen. So we have here create
boost, highlight, and more. So what we want is to
choose the highlight. And then add to highlight. And there, you are now
creating a new highlight. So let's name this as store. And then click Add. And you can now view
this on your profile. Let's click view on profile. So there you can see that you
already have a store there. Now, let's add another
highlight by clicking the plus button and then choose which stories
you want to add this. Previously we don't
have this option. But now since we
have one highlight, Instagram offers this kind of option in adding
your highlights. Let's choose the second one. Actually, you can choose
a lot of stories that you want to add under this
highlight. Click next. Then let's name this
as reviews add. You can actually turn your
highlight into a real. Story highlights like
yours make great reels. You can try it or not now. Let's click now. Let's create another
highlight let's name this as FAQs for
frequently asked questions. Then finally, let's
choose the last one, let's say menu. There. Now you have four Instagram
highlights on your profile. But wait, this is
not on brand yet. To change the Instagram
highlights covers, just simply press the store, and then click More and
then choose Edit highlight. From there, you can choose which stories you want to add
on that specific highlight. You can even change the name. But what we want is
to change the cover. Click Edit cover. Since this is store, choose the image button here. And then choose
the store options. Make sure that your
design is within the frame that Instagram offers. That is why the
best dimension is the story size and make sure that your design
is in the middle and within a circular frame so that you can
check out if it's within your design
area and all that. Okay. So we have here store, and then let's click done. Let's check, we
have store already. Moving on to the rest, Again, click More edit highlight, edit cover, and then choose. We have your reviews.
Then the next one. Edit highlight it FAQ. Then finally, last one, click More edit highlight, and then edit cover. Menu. So we are done. Let's check out your profile. There it looks nice, right? It's really on brand. We have here the
colors red pink, and the off white color that
is part of your branding. It looks neat, right? So we have here
the alternate view of your Instagram highlights. But take note that whenever you add a story on that
specific highlight, it moves on the top part of your Instagram highlights.
Take note of that. That is all about
Instagram highlights. I hope that was fun for you. But wait there's more. In the next lesson, I will share with
you how you can create engaging pin posts.
11. Engaging Pinned Posts: Finally, we have pin posts. You can pin three posts on
your Instagram profile. When you pin a post, it shows up at the top
part of your feed. Pin posts are great
to showcase FAQs, case studies about post, a tutorial, and even a post
that's really doing well. This way, users who
check out your profile will immediately see your
pin posts on your feed. Moving on to pin
posts on Instagram. You can actually pin different types of
posts that you want, such as About me, FAQs, case studies,
even a tutorial, and a post that
does really well. So since I don't have any content on Pink
Sugar New York yet, for this example, I would be using my Instagram
account for my business, which is Christine Socials. It's because I have a lot of content on my profile already, and I want to update
some pin posts. All right. So once you
go to your profile, you will see here
content that you posted that has the pin icon, which means that
this is a pin post. So I have three pin posts, and I want to update one. Let's try to remove this one because I think this
is not relevant anymore. So what I did is click the three dots and then
choose unpinn from profile. So you can pin up to
three posts only. I have here a post
that is doing really well that I want to be
pinned on my profile. So I pulled up that content and then
choose the three dots here above and then choose from the options pin to profile, and also you have
