Drawing Fundamentals : how to draw the Human head !

1. Class Introduction: Welcome to my class alone. They hammer a character artist and illustrator. When I decided to leave architecture field after college to pursue my passion for drawing, I remember how hard it was for me to study all about anatomy, body parts, and drawing different positions for a character. I struggled a lot to find easy, simple ways to do that. The smart way. That's why I wanted to make a full series of classes where I break down with you all the character drawing fundamentals by learning about the part at a time. So in this class, I'm going to show you how to draw the human head easily with no hidden complications. I'll first show you the head construction, then how to draw it from different angles. After that, we'll sketch together a lot of facial variations to be able to draw any character. It's a fun class that will help you take the first step in drawing, even with no experience before. So grab a pencil on paper in joining the class, and let's get started. 2. Head Construction: Welcome to the class. So for the first lesson in this class, I would like to start to tell you that in the resources section below the class, you'll find all the sketches that I will be doing today for you to print it and study from it. And you can start drawing in pencil on paper and have them beside you. It will be diagonalized guide to remind you of all the techniques I will tell you today. You'll also find these spheres for you to build your own simple faces. And I'll be more than happy to watch these in the project section below. So let's get started. Before we start that it needs to the human head drawing. I'd like to start with the skull sketches. As you can see here, the skull of the human head is not as simple shape, it's very complicated actually, it has a lot of parts. But if we can just simplify that, we can see like a sphere and we can find this part here on the sides of the face, which is a flat side. And thus we're up there, It's the crania and if the base bone of the human head. All right, and as you can see here, this is the flat part that you can see in all in all the heads directions. Just like that. I know it looks overwhelming right now, but it will get easier, I promise you. All right, so now let's head to procreate and see how we can draw this from scratch. So let's get started. For the first lesson in this class, I'll be using Procreate on my iPad to start sketching. So the head actually is not a flat circle, It's a sphere. So this theory has a lot of axes. So if you just draw these two lines, we have found those axes all over it horizontally and vertically. These are the lines. So if we took the bus it a little bit down and have a new layer above that. And we just make that circle and took that line and another horizontal line. We'll see that those two lines when we're drawing the head are actually used to set the direction for the head and where it's heading or looking at. Also, if you took these two lines, we will see that this head or sphere, it's heading up. Also when we're drawing a head, we will think of the first part of the head wishes the cranium as a sphere that had two parts slides from both sides. Just imagine a sphere and, or an orange. Uh, he just took a knife and took both sides out. That's exactly in the head case. How can this be translated here? And the head drawing, it's like that. The cranium is like a sphere with that sides flat. Or write throws drew these axes and lines here, we will just see that this is a side and this is a direction where this head is directed to. So this is the first part of the head, which is the cranium. And imagine a tapered cylinder for the neck. Just like this. Just try to sink like you are drawing something that's not Josie, It's something that is, you know, like third dimensional does like this. And this is the second part which is the neck. Let's take that, make it a little bit bigger. And you can imagine how is this neck is attached to the cranium. It's a little bit like a real heads are right? And this is the last part, which is the face. You can take it as just a mask. That's the third part. So the head is consistent from or constructor from the neck, cranium and face. These three are combined together. Let's see how we can combine the three of them to make it easy for you to start your first head. All right, so let's draw a circle and let's draw a flat sides from the cranium unless draw horizontal and vertical axis and these lines, just like that. Let's move on. And this is the first part which is the cranium. Let's now move on with the face, which is like a mask. You can use a different color for you to see how different that plane is, right? And maybe another color just to make the third part of the head, which is the neck. Remember the tapered cylinder we've talked about before. It's really easy and you can just practice that from your own perspective to make it easy for you. And it'll be really fun if you think just a light colored portion in this part, as it's the side of the head. And it'll be easier for you to imagine that. So this is the head side. And that's it. That's all for the head construction. Hope that makes it a little bit easier for you. But don't get overwhelmed. Everything will be clearer in the next lessons. So let's keep going. 3. Head Orientation: So for the second lesson here in this class, we will talk more about the head orientation and how to draw the head from different angles. Okay, let's get started. We'll first start with the circle. Just like that. Let's just duplicate it three times here. And that will be for the front view, three-quarter view, and the side view. All right, Let's start with the front. As I told you, imagine the head as a sphere and that these two parts removed a right? Let's continue. We will make these two little dots here for us to know the end of the face. And here is the tapered cylinder again for the neck. Just that easy. Alright, let's just imagine that as we made in the last lesson, we will make the three-quarter view, will make the sides, the flat side and the side of the cranium of the head. And we will make the mask for the face. Let's first make the axis, the horizontal and vertical axes here on this sphere. Let's make our lines like this. Okay? And that's the mask or the face. And again, the tapered cylinder for the neck. And that's how a human head will look like from a three-quarter view. All right, and finally with the side. We'll start with the circle, and then we'll draw these axes vertically and horizontally. Alright? And you make another small circle like this for the site part of the cranium, as I told you before. And we'll take this line a little bit down and we will say this line just like this, till they are intersected. And that will make this part here and this part like that. And then we will draw a line here and a line here. And that's tapered cylinder for our, for the neck. Let's just delete those or right, and let's just make some shading with a light color. And again, this is the side of the head. It should be darker. Just like this. And also here for the mask or the face mask. And here in the front view as well is just delete that. And here it is. Run head with the three views, front, three-quarter and side. Hope that was helpful. And hope that you're following along with me right now. Let's head to the next lesson. 4. Face Variations: Welcome to the third lesson. For the third lesson right now, let's talk more about how to draw a face variations. Let's start here. Remember here you remember the face mask we've talked about before. Let's now try to make some variations from this mask tool. See how we can make different characters are right. I drew five spheres here and let's start with the first one. Let's imagine at this face mask just looked like that. How different that face looks. Now, imagine it's a cartoon character. Let's now draw the neck. Actually looks pretty nice. Let's draw another one. You just keep imagining and keep searching and keep exploring how different this face mask can be. We can make it long like that. All right, and that's the neck. Let's draw another one. Maybe something like this. And that's the neck. See how simple that is. You're just changing the face mask and the whole head is changing and the whole character is changing. You can already imagine the eyes and everything of this. Right? And here's another one. Really looks different. And for the last one, Let's just try something like that. Maybe something like this huge chain. And that's another phase variation. That's it. It looks pretty nice. Let's again make some shading for you to feel how different these faces look. And for you to imagine and how they look like the 3D they are not to do anymore. And it's easier for you to imagine that. So the head has assigned, it has a front, it has dimensions. It's not just like a drawing on the paper. And that's it for this lesson. That's how you can come up with phase variations from changing the face mask. Let's head to our last lesson. 5. Face Construction: Now for the last lesson in this class, we will talk more about the face construction. We just talk about it very simply with no details for the face parts because we will head to that in the coming classes in this sketching series. Okay, let's start. So let's first start with the sphere. For the cranium, or right? And this is the flat part that we talked about before. And of course remember the main lines or the base lines for the head or the construction lines. That will make it easier for you to see the direction and to see how three-dimensional this hand will look. I just rotate this a little bit and let's continue. As we said before, we will take this line straight down and we'll take these lines like this, as we mentioned, or right. And that's the hand. We will make a line like this and a line like this for the hairline. Very simple and easy. And now you can notice that these three parts are just equally. The 1 third. Each one of it is just 1 third. The are the same length. This is really interesting about our faces. So let's continue. They are just equal. All right, so here is the eye socket. We will just draw it very simply and we'll talk about that I drawing later in another glass. So if this is the eye sockets, we can imagine that there is a mask combining these two sockets together. Little mask, just like the superheros mask, or right? And in this quarter of this side's circle, there is our ear in the bottom right corner. And for the nose, we'll start with the shape like that. Just like a triangle shaped or something and the whole nodes comes down. So very simple melts like a cartoon one. And now let's take the opposite it down and start like imagining how simple that could be. This is the ear and this is the nose. And at the top of the mask of the eye sockets we will make the eyebrows. Just a simple at that. And you can draw it the way you want, any shape of the eyebrows that you want. And now for the cartoon, I will just draw it like this, just aligned for the islands. And then the iris. Keep it very simple at this stage. Tell you talk about later in going glasses. And here is a simple mouth. We can make this non-locally bit smaller, maybe. Let's say this. All right, Let's make another one. Again, the sphere and the side part and the axis. Let's make a different face mask. And here is just around the ear and the neck, the eye sockets. And remember how a masked they can be and this is the eyeball. This is a simple knows. All right, and now the eyebrows and the top of the mask, of the eye sockets and some details in the nose and that's assembled face. And imagine that the fish wrapped around the 3D shape of the chin. Does the wheels of bottle later also in the mouse class. Alright? And the eyebrows like this. And of course it's darker inside the mouth. And this is the hair line. And you're free to make the hair looks like you want it just very simple as you can see, I'm just making some funds. Simple, fast sketch. Let's try another last one. Let's make another shape of the face masks to make an elongated face somehow. Just a veil and face maybe. And these are the two eye sockets, eyeballs inside. Maybe a different shaped nose. As he's a villain, needs to be more sharp and more exaggerated. It's a cartoon character after all. And that's the eyebrows. Maybe let's delete these lines and we can make the most sense for him. That looks fun. Alright, and maybe some villainy eyes like that. Just keep it very simple. And of course the neck side of the face. Maybe you can make little cheek like that. For some sharper edges for a villain character. And here is the hair, of course. Yeah, that looks nice. And some shading or the side of the face and this beard. And that's all. It was really simple.
