I believe that seen lots of different techniques and work flows Deep Century X, from different artist's and illustrator's can help you to convert it all into something you and to develop your own creative style and voice. In this class, I will be using iPad, pro Evel pencil procreate app and beautiful brushes, which comes to procreate so you do not need to buy a traditional brushes to recreate same. The project for this class will be to create your own art set. I will walk you through the entire process from rough sketch to final illustration with Beautiful of steps. A lonely I will share my deep sentries in procreate. By the end of this class, you'll have your own clip, art said, which you can read or use it in your social media calls. This clause is great great exercise, for I'm so excited to share my technique. So you can shaping to shoot your job style and because it isn't watch or in your illustrations, so let's get started. 2. Class Project : your project for this class is to create my perfect day off clean part set. Just imagine how you would like to spend your perfect day off and make a list of items which represent such a day. It's getting me anything you want can be clothing items, food, dreams, flats, etcetera. For example, I have listed a cup of tea books, some cozy and comfortable launcher headphones with music playing and eat and some mama stop . I suggest you to pick from 5 to 10 simple objects. Also, I will be raging a square commerce in this class so we can sure easily means to go off to finish it. By the end of this class, you have your very own clip art set associative if a pleasant time, which you can print a zoo, a wall, art and hanging out, or you been treated separately Stickers. Also, you can make a party out of each inappropriate or in 40 short, and also you can use it in your instagram account as pilots Compass and I will be so glad to see your sketches, final illustrations and time lapse videos in Class Project section and also in social media . So let's get started 3. Quick Intro to Procreate: before we start sketching, I really want to show you the basic knowledge off procreate and some important details like the brushes I use if you know how to create canvas, how to make selections, how to use it transformed to and how to make and use masks and appropriate. You can skip this lesson and go straight to the next one. I'm opening the procreate up. This is how my workspace looks to create a custom size canvas. I'm gonna click the little plus on the top right corner of the screen. You will see I have a lot of options over here, probably more than you have, because I have already created several custom canvas at the right corner. Off this menu, there is a little folder I come with a plus on it. I'm gonna tap on it to create a new custom size canvas, which is 4000 by 4000 pixels. Free 100 db I such resolution will allow me to print this illustration. If I choose to, you can select a color profile RGB or as in y K. And you can change the time lapse settings here in the panel. You can see procreate shows how many layers I available for me taken and take on the canvas size and the DP I the smaller of the canvas, the more layers I available. I'm gonna rename this canvas and click create. Here is our new canvas. You can zoom and rotate the canvas using two fingers. Also, you can change the color off your interface. Choose a light range icon in the top left corner of your screen. This is your actions panel in Breaths panel. You can choose light or dark interface for now. I'm gonna leave the dark one. Let's talk about the brushes which are used there are actually two of them. The 1st 1 is called a six B pencil. It's in sketching, and the 2nd 1 for the coloring part, which also gives me a nice texture, is called Nicaragua all and it's in the paint. In section I'm using Nicaragua, usually at a big size and low opacity. You can change the size of your brush and the capacity off it, using sliders at the left edge off your screen. The next thing I'm going to show you a so called quick shape, too. You can draw a line or a shape than hold the end off a stroke, and it will snap into a perfect form while dragging a quick shape. I am placing a novel finger on the canvas so my line gets perfectly horizontal. Then you release your shape. The edit shape Botton appears. You can step this bottom to change your shape. Now let's talk about the selection toe. It's a little as shaped icon on the top left corner of the screen. I'm selecting the circle and then stepping on Cope, Ian based and in my Layers panel, I can see the new layer. If a copy off the circle, which I have selected, I'm gonna delete the Slayer and make a new selection. And this time I want to transform my selection. I'm tipping the transform I can, which is a little arrow, and I can irritate the selection or I can change its size. I can change proportionally, or if I choose freeform transformation and the magnetic mode would be off, I can actually distort the proportions. Now I'm selecting the syrah kal again and then swiping down really quickly that my free fingers and I'm gonna tep Kant and paste, as you can see in the layer Spend all Now I have a new layer that the Syrah Kal, which I have selected. I'm gonna merge down this two layers and I forgot to mention my razor toe for the razor. Typical. Use a hard airbrush, which is in the airbrush in section. Sometimes I'm using Agreed. You can find it in the actions panel canvas. I'm enabling it by flipping the drawing guy Total switch. Once it's enabled, I can easily edit it. Change the size off, agreed or its collar or thickness and so on. Now I'm selecting just the part of the circle and transform in it, and they can flip it horizontally or vertically. I know that I'm doing it if circles, it's not so clear why I might need this. But I'm using selection and transformation a lot to change some parts of my sketches. You will see in the next lesson. I'm showing all these techniques here, So in the next lesson, we can talk less about technical stuff and more about sketching. I'm also using Layer Mosque, sometimes in case I want to hide or show something on the layer without raising any content . I'm tipping on my primary layer than choosing a mask in the layers Options menu and then a mask appears at both was selected lier layer masks are edited in grayscale, so to hide something you need to paint in black and painted in white will restored it. Then a layer mosque is selected. The car peaker will ignore Hugh selected cars. Last but not least, is the split view moan which are used for reference images. I'm swiping up from the bottom of the screen to open the dog on the dog. I'm touching and holding the Pinterest up sign and I'm dragging it off the dock to the right edge of the screen. You can adjust us to EPS as you want by Dragon, the ab divider. I have created a special pinchers board for this class, which I'm gonna use to close. Please view dragged the ab divider over the app that you want to close, which in our case, is Pinterest. So that's all I wanted to tell you before we begin to sketch. I helped This info was helpful. See in the next video where we will finally begin our illustration 4. Step 1: Sketch : Our first step is a sketch. We are going to greet esque h for our illustration. I'm gonna use the split to you. I have created a Pinterest board for our class, as I have already said. So I am a Justin this place for you and I would like to start by drawing launcher. I'm starting to draw a top. I'm joining the right part off the top and then I'm using the selection toe to select it. Then clicking cope Ian paste and after flip horizontally. In the end, we need to merge layers because then you cope in pay something in basis on a new layer. And we wanted to be one layer. I want to draw frills on the stop, so I'm rotating the canvas of two fingers. I'm doing this a lot to find the perfect bangle, and we are moving to the next object, which is shorts. As you can see, I'm not coping the objects exactly. They see them but getting some details like a cute little bowl on this short, just in the size off shorts. They were too big for this top, and I'm moving both shorts and a top for this amusing the selection and transform panels. And next we are moving to health off this matter. As you can see for now, I have not adjusted the brush size and the brush capacity, mostly because this is just a sketch, not our line work. But I generally prefer not to adjust the size off a brush in my technique, but I will talk about it more in the next list. No, I'm still drawing. This goes, it's better. I'm feeling that there is something wrong with it, so I'm trying to adjust it. I even tried to create a mass Claire, tow high, the part off the top and the shores which are under this fatter. So see how it looks. But finally I have deleted the mess Claire and decided to undo previous steps and simply to redraw this lead way with next object to draw is a pair of slippers. Again, I have done this if shorts and I'm definitive sleepers I'm selecting apart. And then, just in the size of the help off the Trans from Penhall, I'm gonna draw only one off them and then selected Akopian based flipped horizontally and merged layers. So we have only one there for hours. Kitsch Next object is a sleeping mask, which is pretty easy to draw. One more object, a fragrance bottle. I choose this one because it has a nice round shape in it and simple but cute flowers. I'm using quick shapes to draw perfect circles. I'm drawing a circle and holding the end of a stroke, and it snaps into a perfect form. I'm going to speed up some parts like here because I'm just gonna draw all this flower shapes. It's all the same. No special special tips or techniques for the next object, which is gonna be a jarve. If tulips in it, I'm gonna need agreed. You can find it in action panel canvas and then activate a drawing guide. You can customize it. I'm making agreed, size smaller and kept don. So now it's much more easy to draw a jar. As you can see, I do not have any reference photo. I'm just join an image from my imagination, struggling a little bit with the handle. No way to live is to be in the jar. Tulips are quite simple flowers to draw, but I used a reference photo to be sure and to have some confidence that I'm doing everything right again. As you can see, I'm constantly zooming in and out to see the whole picture. And I'm heading details to our jar. Just some simple lines. Dots. I also like to add heart shapes and my drawings. Like here, I add them to the slippers with Next thing I'm gonna add to my perfect day off clip. Art is a candle. Just simple shapes. Do not need a reference photo for it. It's not the main object on the canvas. Also, I have an idea off a phone with music playing in it and headphones. So I'm growing a rectangular adjust in it than making a co pay off it and roll music notes in it. Wear headphones. I'm joining How awful Philipps and also co Pete, don't forget to merge down the layers than Nico P objects offer wise. He will have parts off the sketch on different layers, and we want it all to be on one Lee wait next part off. My perfect day off is a cup of tea. Then you are joining things off. Lots of ellipsis in it. A quick shape toe is so handy. E have added to the details to the cup. I'm gonna draw two doughnuts again quick shaped tool and I'm drawing some glazing and house of strawberries and even to flowers on my donors e I decided to reorganize the space between the objects a little using the selection tool and transform tool moving next to the hand cream tube. For some simple conventional objects, you probably won't need a reference. And our last but not least, item is a bookshelf here. I'm gonna use a quick shape to a lot too great. Perfect worked anglers and I don't want all the books to be the same size. So I very much looked anglers again here. I'm gonna speed up it a little bit because all I'm doing is the same just great in different ripped anglers with a quick shaped tool. Sometimes I'm coping the existing rectangular and editing it. - Also here, I want to draw one off this book ends which are placed at the end of the book row to support them. And I wanted to be more curly, Baroque a style. So I am playing the for form, looking for one which will look nice and organic on the next steps. I'm adding some details to our books. Just seem blind circles, heart shapes, rectangle er's nothing fancy way have all our object. I'm in Justin and Toll, for example. I'm making a jar smaller here at this part. You want to place your objects as you want to see them in your final piece, you will have a chance to change a position. One more off to making outlines, but I recommend paying attention to replacement. Now, after the start coloring, it will be much more difficult to adjust the size of the object or its placement because we will have lots of flares. So I suggest you place and unjust all your objects. Now, at this stage, you can even read drawer parts you don't like like I'm here going to redraw this. Leave off this better and I'm also gonna and a clef and added to my phone image. Play around, zoom in and zoom out, make sure everything is in the right place and then you feel like it. Move to our next lesson where we will be making our outlines 5. Step 2: Outlines: the next step, we're going to create line work for our illustration creating a new layer. And I'm gonna name our first layer, which would have created at the first lesson Skitch and the second layer name is outline. I'm setting this sketch layer at the multiplayer mode, and I'm lower in its a passage in down. Also, the sketch layer should be on both the layer on which we're going to create our line work. I'm selecting a six B pencil Braasch, zoom in, in and starting to create line work. And here I want to say several important things about line work. First, I'm never coping parts and duplicating them, then doing my line work. You have seen that. Then I was creating a sketch off this top. I drew a right sight than simply duplicated it and flipped it, and it was OK when we were creating that sketch. But when I'm doing my line work, I make sure I draw everything. The vow duplication. The thing is, when you're doing the line work, it's never gonna be the same even than your drawing to similar sides off one object or, let's say to humanize this line work is gonna be an important part off a final illustration , so I make sure it looks authentic throughout the whole piece. The next important thing is a consistency off your line. You will see I'm zooming in and out a lot here. That's because I want to be consistent with my line. Work and line work is a very important in regent off so called creative style to have a consistent style which people can identify. You need to be consistent if your line work how you draw your lines, which brushes do you use? If your lines are not confident yet, choose thicker brushes like six B pencil, for example. Thicker brushes are a little bit more forgiving. Talking about my line work here and his consistency. I have been experimenting a lot before. I have developed my formula. I'm using a six B pencil and that I'm find important. I'm not changing the size and the A passages liners. I use only the pressure off the still ISS, but not a lot just delicate transitions from slightly thinner to figure brushstrokes or vice versa. I know this might seem like small thing, but a creative style which every aspirant, illustrator or artist wants to find is, after all, a compilation off such small hacks and techniques, which you combine into your own unique formula. How to understand which line works use you. Firstly, you need to experiment a lot, and secondly, as simple as it might sound, you need to think about What do you like? Maybe you like vector art style. If it's clean lines and geometric shapes, you can easily create clean lines in procreative quick shape toe. So if you feel like it's what you like to do the most, and you will never get bored if it then go for it. If you like more lose lines, experiment with them. Also analyzed the art off other artists you like and follow. Why do you like the art? Deconstruct their style into small elements like line work and analyze which parts you like the most. Going back to our illustration we're making here. As I have said, I don't change the size of a broad drastically, but a six b pencil is a rather thick brush, and I have a lot of small details. This means that I need to think beforehand about size of my brush. It needs to be not too thick to be able to draw little details, but it should not be too thin. Otherwise, I will lose the texture, which six big band still can give. Also, an important note about the line work. Make sure your line work is visible in all the joints. I mean places there, two or more lines meet the thickness off your line may very anywhere except the joints. Other rise. The whole picture will fall apart. That happens because our eyes tend to generalize what they see. You can Georgia several lines and still recognize the common shape or object. That's because all the joint parts, which form the shape off the objects, are visible. Your lines can be almost invisible at other parts about the corners and places their lines meet. Need to be clear, so the ice off of your can recognize the shape. Then I just started drawing, attended, on the contrary, to make my lines thick in the center and sinner Tovar. It's the ends, But keep in mind if you don't want to have a fractured look, you need to be sure all the joints are clear. and visible Megan illustrations in this style suggest that you take your time the feline work. It should look easy and lose, but you need to make each year stroke 33. Then I just quickly outlined my sketch. It doesn't look right for me, So don't rush. Take your time and enjoy what you're doing. I'm gonna speed up this part off a video way way. Sleepers here have a very Dexter. So I need to be careful. I'm using short strokes to convey this for a look, not forgetting about the direction off the strokes way way. - Sometimes when I see that some parts are too thick, I can use an a razor toe set on six b pencil. The very low opacity to make the line sinner like I'm doing here with the fragrance bottle - way . After you have finished your line, work again. Zoom in and zoom out corrective places you feel wrong about. At this stage. You can still easily change the placement or the size of your objects, so I suggest looking carefully before moving to the next lesson. There we will be coloring our illustration because then we start coloring. We will have more layers and it will be more difficult to move the objects 6. Color Palette : E. I'm using limited color palettes in my works. For example, For these peace, I'm gonna use only five colors, including one for the background and one for the line work. So, basically three colors. I suggest trying this method. You can take the colors I use. I will include my color palette in the glass materials, or you can choose your own palette. For the pre made color palettes I usually use adobe color Pinterest or coolers dot com. I also collect color schemes on a Pinterest board ruling to which you can also find in class materials. After you have selected the color ballot, you want to save it. To save color swatches and procreate, step the color swatch at the top right off the tumor, then go to pallets and kept the little plus icon in the top right corner. Then select the color and step an empty switch in the swatch palette. Do this with each color way to rename the ballot way. We can move to the next lesson and start coloring 7. Step 3: Coloring : way are beginning with our coloring. I'm creating a new earlier choosing the nickel RL brush, setting it at a big size and low capacity. And on this layer, I want to make a rough overview off how all my colors will look together and how I will place them. So this is like sketching for the coloring part. I need to understand the whole picture after we will be creating a new layer for each color so colors will be separated. Also created a background color in broke. Great. There is a separate background color, but for my technique, I need another on. You'll see why I needed when we will be adding additional details and finishing our illustration. For now, I'm just making its library, hiding our color test layer and creating a new layer to start with coloring. I'm going to start if a pink color. There are several techniques for coloring in appropriate. The 1st 1 and the one I use is selecting the area and then coloring this the brush. I am selected as Vetter. As you can see, I'm adding bars to the selection. I think I'm using Nicaragua brush at the lower a positive, which gives us texture and coloring our peace. I'm doing the same with the mask, selecting it and then coloring this the Nicaragua brush. I'm making selections by eating small pieces together. As you can see, I'm zooming in and out a lot, also while coloring to make sure I like the texture and the whole look. The next way you can call her is just simply coloring this the branch and then erasing the excessive parts of a razor toe. You might ask why I'm not making my brush size smaller. That's because I will lose my texture So the big brush size and the low capacity are important here. I'm in raising using a heart airbrush. Usually I'm making selections for coloring. That's works for me. So I'm continuing this sipping color. I'm gonna speed up here when we finish with our first color. We want to great a new layer for the next color, and again I'm making selections and that in texture and color with white brushstrokes way. When we finish with our first color, we want to create a new layer for the next color, and again I'm making selections and that in texture and color with white brushstrokes Here you can see the shorts on blue and the bowl spink But our pink lor is underneath a bowler So what we're gonna do is the following I'm going to select the pink layer, select the bowl on it and then I'm swiping down really quickly with my free fingers and I'm gonna dep caught and based, and I'm moving the bowl air above a Blair. Sometimes in this technique, we are gonna need to do so now, moving to the cup, we need to cut a hole in the handle than making a selection. Or we could just erase it afterwards. - Way . Thank coloring the fragrance bottle. I will make the same thing that I have maintained the bull and charts. I'm going to select the flowers and content based them on a number layer. Then movies layer a both blue way After finishing defibrillator I'm great in and you layer and starts with mine lost color yellow, the same technique selecting coloring and zoom in in and out toe. Look, if I like it or not, I'm gonna speed up here. - Way , way, way, theme. In the end, I'm gonna name all the layers, so I want to get confused. Later. You can see I have free collars bought more than free layers. That's because, as I have shown you, you will need to count some details and paste them on the other layer. 8. Step 4: Shadows And Highlights: There are two ways I like to add shadows to my illustrations. The thirst one is hedging I'm creating and you layer than picking the color, which I used for the line work and choosing a six B pencil brush. And I'm drawing close Elice based parallel lines in the places that overshadows Aussie to agent. This technique is time consuming and you need to practice to draw straight lines off the same thickness with the same distance between each. Over here, this vetter is above the top and the shorts, so there should be a shadow on both top and shorts also on frills. They're gonna be shadows and under the ball and so on. And there is another defining I use. I'm gonna start the thumping color I'm grading and you layer a both a pink lair, setting it to the multiply mode and turned it into a clipping mask. I'm choosing a pink car from my palate and unequal brush and start painting shadows on my sweater in the same way I am. Beijing shadows on sleepers on the same layer so all the shadows for the pink objects are gonna be on this layer way. Highlights I'm great in and you layer above our shadow Slayer, setting it to the screen mode and choose a clipping mask in the layers Options menu. I'm using the same color and the same brush. You might want to change the capacity and or the signs off a brush. You can also change the capacity off the layer. I'm naming days two layers, shadows and highlights accordingly and moving next of a blue collar. I'm going to create a new layer above our layer with the blue collar and turned it into a clipping mask, and I'm going to choose the blue collar. But instead of changing the layer moat, I will change the color on the color wheel for the highlights. I'm going to do the same. Just pick the color for highlights from the color wheel instead of changing the layer more to the screen. - I don't want to be confused with all these layers after vote, so I named my layers, shadows and highlights and move to the yellow color for the yellow color. I'm gonna use the same technique I used for the pink. I will change the layer moored instead off picking the new car the sequence of actions is the same. Great. And you were for the shadows. You said it to the multiply moat for the highlights to the screen mold. Turn this layer in, jerk a clipping mask and start painting the Nicaraguan brush way. That's how you can Chandos and highlights to your illustrations. Let's move to the next lesson. 9. Step 5: Finishing Details : the's step is completely up to you. You might want to end details or leave it as it is. I'm gonna show you how I finish my illustrations. Remember? I was talking about the additional background layer, which I created. So here we need this layer. I'm gonna attention layer mask to it. Make sure my color is black. Choose the Nicaragua brush, adjust its size and start outlining all my objects. What I'm actually doing here is I'm great in a hole in my additional background layer, which I created so we can see the default wide background I found out. I like this kind of cut out effect or sticker effect, as I have said is just a little creek I like to do. So. First step, I'm creating wine outlines for more than for the next little detail. I need to create a new layer. Choose a six B pencil and the collar we used for the line work and I started drawing little dishes around each object not far from it, but not too close. And I like doing it because it ends some movement to the whole picture. You don't want them to be all over the place, but a little just it. Some life into the whole picture. You have some empty spaces in between your objects. You might want to try to draw some little simple space fillers like stars, for example. I do not feel like I needed So that's it. I have finished my illustration. 10. Final Thoughts : Congratulations on finishing this course. I hope you have had fun in this class. Enjoyed watching the process and you have learned a lot. If you want to stay in touch of me, you can follow me on skill share or on Instagram. And I would love to see what you have created.
