1. Pumpkin Arrangement Introduction : So here's a beautiful
pumpkin arrangement we're gonna make for
the fall season. I'm gonna be using some
artificial pumpkins and fall leaves and picks to add to the fresh flowers
that we're going to add. These are sunflowers
from my garden and grocery store flowers I got,
but you can go anywhere. And you can really
make a beautiful texture design very colorful. I love the sunflowers and prota and the wheat and
the barley and mums. I'm gonna show you every step of the way from soaking your oasis, getting it hydrated
for the design. And all the supplies
you're gonna need.
2. Preparing for Design : So high. Today we're going to make some arrangements
with pumpkins. I couldn't find any real
pumpkins because it's just the beginning of
September of August and want to come up with
some designs for the fall. Entertaining for
a dinner party or you just want to have something
festive in your home, having guests over or
a nice gift to give. I did find these nice
pumpkins white and orange. They are they're heavy plastic. I actually got them
at Hobby Lobby because they're
gonna be reusable, and the arrangement that we're
going to make on top could actually dry use flowers
that can dry nicely. I got some Danthas
and some hypericmbry. And then some micro
discs. They're mom's. Eucalyptus, some
texture greenery. My favorite is the protea. So pretty. This is the
pincushion protea, and it came with the
seated eucalyptus. And then over at
the dollar store, I stopped in and I
got some fall leaves, some decorative fall leaves. So I'm going to be making four of these today
because I'm going to be bringing them to some senior centers that
want to do classes, and we're going to
put them on display. So that's something
you could do too, is when you make designs and
you want to teach a class, all you got to do is
repeat what you just did at home in learning this, it's just a nice activity to
bring to local businesses or even to senior centers because they're always
looking for activities to do. So I'm only going to do one
is a demonstration today, and I'll continue to design. But I think I want to
start with a white one. I really like the
white one, especially because I got these
unique leads. That I think will
really accent it nicely, make it nice and bright. It's kind of early in fall, so it's nice to have a
little white in there still. So we'll get started here. First thing we need to do is
have your black of oasis, like I showed you,
and then soak it. And now that it's all soaked, Oasis comes with lines
in it so you can cut and know where to
cut straight lines. I believe that we
can do it in half. So I'm going to
start mine cutting right where they already
have it perforated. Because the pumpkins
not very wide on top, and we don't need that
big of a piece on top. What I'm going to
do is I'm going to cut it in half sideways. I'm going to set these aside, since we're only
working on one today. And this stem is curved. If you had a fresh pumpkin, you could probably
cut it off and make it so it's a straight insertion. But we're going to just go ahead and kind of push
it down through, turn it all the way to the top. Now it's nice and secure. We can trim off the edges. Just so it's not so bulky. And if we want, we
can even cut it down. I think it's a little thick, so I'm going to cut
it down a little bit. Take a slice off the top. I like to keep a rag
nearby so that we can clean up as we go along.
3. Design Base with greenery : I'm going to start with working from the bottom
with some greenery. And each of these
have little breaks. You just remove any pieces of greenery that
will be in the way. And kind of go to
the side because you have that stem
in the middle. We're going to start
with the base. What I like to do
is keep turning it. You don't need them
that long. Have it flow out naturally
like it was growing. And keep cutting little pieces. Start bringing it
out a little bit. And kind of keep
track of your flow. If something's too long, you can pull it out and pull it back, you know,
put it back in. I just think that was hanging
out a little bit too far. Because I have to do four,
I want to save some of these seeded go at this
for the other ones. I think that's kind of
proportionate if this is gonna be a center of
a table or a buffet. You don't want it
to be too large, but you want it to
be proportionate to the size of your
pumpkin down below. I do have this
textured greenery. I do like to start with greens
just to get the shape of how we're gonna be
designing okay. And it's just
cutting and snipping and removing any
foliage from below, so it doesn't get in the way. I'll the oasis so we
can drink better. If you're designing
at home, it's nice. You can turn on music and watch
a TV show if you want to. You just kind of make
it fun and not so serious 'cause it's beauty. It's fun. You can start seeing a
little bit more depth with the darker
foliage, the textures. Going around. And then I have you know, this is dianthus or Trachium. It's really fuzzy. It's a nice
texture. I really like it. And you can cut off. They have their own little individual stems that you can cut or you
can cut them as a cluster. It's a big cluster. But we can do a
little bit of both. You can pre cut them so you don't have to keep
picking up and putting down your clippers. I kind of like to do that. And then maybe nice
big thick one. And then as you're about
to get rid of your waste, cut it down so it doesn't
po out in your trash can, makes it easier for disposal. And I want this to kind of flow more oblong but
be all the way around. So I'm going to create like a
focal point with my design, meaning I'll put a little
more interest in one section. So I'm going to start there, and this is going to be
filler greenery. It's nice to work with a
turn table. If you have one. I have just a nice piece of granite slate here so that it's nice and slippery and it's
a nice workspace for me. If your flower stems bend, just give them a fresh cut. You want to continue
that interest of texture all way around. And the object is to cover up the oasis. You can't see it. So that's already looking cute.
4. Add flowers 2: My main focal flower
is their protea. I really love their potla. It's a nice tropical flower, but it actually works because of the color in this design. Remove any foliage
that's going to be in the um, Bass. There we go. Starting
a nice focal point. I did this morning go get some the last of my
harvest of sunflowers. And this is all that's left. So I'm really sad about that, but it's okay.
They're beautiful. We can use them in this design. So really delicate when
you grow them at home. They're not the floor is
gray where it's very thick. So they're a lot thinner. Some of them grow numerous
blooms on a stem. I just think they're really
delicate. I love them. I think we'll use these. Cook off. To insert it there. And this is all the way around, so we're going to
put one over here. I just love some flowers. They're one of my
favorite flowers. A start. This is going
to be my main section that's going to really
pop with interest. Now I'll start with
some hypericmbery, remove any foliage
that you don't need. Here's a little baby stem.
I'm not going to waste it. I can use it. Little
pop of color. Then I have these
little micro dispas the really mini mums
that you can get. I got these at Trader Joe's, but I like to go to my local wholesalers
and support them. I only had a few designs to do, so it was nice to buy
smaller bouquets this time. And these two come
in long breakage. So you can cut them off since we have a really small
design we're working on. That way we have more stems. And then I cluster from the top. Some things you
want to angle down. And that everything's
gonna be the same height. Some come out, some are in more. Just got to keep
turning and looking. You can design with a knife, a florist knife or clippers. These are a little heavy
now for delicate work. So I'm going to go to
a smaller size clipper removing any foliage
from the bottom. On this back side,
it's looking a little, you know, sparse in here. So I think I need
another big sunflower. Let's I'll cut another one off. You might have to move something else if you got it
in there already, so that fills it in
a little bit better. Wipe up as we go along. And let's see what else we have. I think we just need a little
bit more of a traqelium. A lot of flowers have
scientific names, common names. I might refer to a flower with a few different names,
but it's the same. That gives a little
more dense and maybe just another
sunflower right in here. Now it's looking
really adorable. What's going to make it pop is finding where you want to
put your points of interest. I think the pumpkin
is going to add a nice pop of interest and it brings up
the white from the pumpkin. That's really cute. I try to make this
pretty easy to follow so that I can teach it in classes or in small
groups, or in line for you. I think it's coming along.
5. Finishing touches & Conclusion: We add just a few
of the orange to help bring the orange or the
protea around the design. Not too many 'cause I like
that it's end of summer, early fall, so I don't want to make it too orange just yet. And another great find
was to I went to idle, and they had this what
this dry preserved wheat and the millet. And I think we'll
you for texture. It's nice to work on odd
numbers in floral design. So I cut all five of the
wheat and five of the millet. And then out the other side. And they break really easily. Well, it looks nice. And maybe just a few
of these leaves, and these slide up
and down nicely. If you need to use
the main stem. There. Here we go. Bye bye. Thank you for watching. I hope you really enjoyed it. To keep it fresh, you can use just a water bottle and
every day just missed it. You can miss down inside to
keep the oasis a little damp. To keep it alive
longer. Hope you enjoy. So in closing today, I'd
like to show you some of the other pieces I
did that I'm gonna be taking out to
the senior centers. So really, I'd love for you
to show me your designs, as well, once you design
it and watch this video. Thank you so much.
Have fun with it. Add different textures,
different flowers. As long as you have the similar
design, that'll be great.
