1. Intro: Welcome to my scale Czech glass alone. They either a character artist and illustrator. I luckily scraping cartoon characters. The idea of living in a different story and mood with each character is just the perfect thing in tissue. And that's why I want to take you in that journey through my process of treating occur. Don't get step-by-step to help you get into this interesting field, if you like. So we'll be starting with a character mood board and get to know more about it. Then we will be sketching the character based on that board. We'll be also taking the sketch in Adobe Illustrator to start drawing nothing to Victor lines. And then comes the coloring step, and we will choose the right talent together. After that comes the shading, texturing, and adding more details to the character just to take it to the next level. Not just that, but you'll also learn how to create different outfits for your character and how to make the facial expressions for it. So you will be having a complete character that you can use in books, cartoon, animation. It's a big, rich class that's full of tips, tricks and techniques that they always use in my work. I hope you enjoy it. And that's dive into the first lesson.
2. Moodboard: So for the first lesson in this class, we'll be creating the character mood board. So what is the mood board? We have like some essential questions that we need to answer before starting any character illustration. Just to make it easy for us to imagine more about this character and to know more about it. And to have just like a guide for us to get back to during the process of our illustration. This motherboard, it doesn't have to be written, but you have to have it in mind and you have to like answered these questions before starting in your mind so that you get to know your character more. These essential questions like, who is your character, what does love, and what's unique about it? What is the mood that you want to express with your illustration? And what are the main elements in the illustration. So for my character today, who is the main character? The character that I have in mind is called nori. She's five years old. This character is happy, I'm funny and optimistic and how she looks like she's a little bit short, chubby, cute, with a brown hair and big eyes. And what does he love? She does love Summer popsicles, plane with the sands. She loves flowers, and she loves going to the beach and swimming in the sea. So it's these kinds of questions that you need to an answer like to get to know your character more. What is the best thing this character likes to make in life? Where did the character come from, whether she likes to make? And is there anything that's special about how they look? You have to decide all this. Whether they have braces, the eroding, a hat, they have a beard. You have to answer all these questions before you get started. And then you work on the mood board that we'll get to later. Okay, and what is the moment that you want your illustration to express? My illustration today, I wanted to be so happy and colorful and to say a lot about summer and to be vibrant, childish and fresh. So that's and the mood that I wanted to lever with my character illustration. So here's the mood board that I just created. When I'm creating the mood board for my characters, I usually go through Pinterest or Google Images and start typing keywords about the mood at, about the elements that I have in mind. So today, I just searched for some C Or beach kids elements does like a float, like the sand cart, sands bucket and the tools for my character. I just wanted to see some happy kids faces just to get into the mood or drawing a happy girl. And I like these polka dot and suit and the flip flops, the colorful popsicles and the beach, of course, having all these in front of me just gets me to feel the wives of the illustration that I want to work on today. And it will just help you to start working right away because you have some of the elements that you want to include in your illustration. So he does start working with them around and placing them in the nice composition and working on the structure illustration. So let's get to the next lesson and see how we will be sketching our illustration based on this mood board.
3. Sketch: Now that we have finished our mood board and we now know more about our character. And we got to know the mode that we are as catching. And so let's get started. Sketching, carrying Photoshop. And I start with very simple body proportions. It's, it's a cartoon character. It's for a kid. It's all about simple lines. So as you can see, it's a simple body. And I just keep sketching and exploring with the lines till I get two. Like some shape that I like. And that says more about the character that we talked about. So it's just something that you work on. As you keep sketching. You're just exploring and having fun with this process and trying to get the character that you have now in mind after finishing your mood board, you tried to get this into real-life. We're into a real sketch. So I just go on and on and explore. So this is one, I will make another one here. Let's try something different. Okay, so let's try another pose. Maybe. And maybe she's holding a bowl here. Now, right? Now for this character, I just wanted to make something different. So I just tried to go more of a Kearney here. Something to add more life personality or something, which is having her sunglasses on her head. Just something they got their symbol and just fun. And the polka dot swimming suit that we talked about and her flip flops. Alright, Let's get back to this one and tried to enhance a little bit and to see how it would look like with the details that we mentioned before. The polka dot swimming suit? No, right. So now all that I need to do is just to choose between them. And actually I chose this one. I felt it's Tudor, it's really much cuter. And these are the photos that we got into our mood board. If you remember. The last lesson. So now all I need to do is just to work a little bit more on this, on this sketch. Like we are just going to refine our lines here. How I do that? I just create another layer in front of this, just above this layer and start with a cleaner, brushed with a thin stroke. And I just keep going into the final lines from my sketch that I wanted to be in the final refined one. And I'll just go like that. You just keep moving and keep enjoying the process. Every line you're putting gets you more closer to the final character that we, you have in your mind right now. So it's really fun to watch this just built in front of your eyes. Alright. And that's for her eye, her iris, and her nose. At this step you just, you just need to get to the final lines of the how, how this character will look and feel is. So you just, you can reshape any part now, it will be better. It's, of course it's, it's alright all along the process to change and keep modifying till they get satisfied. Goodbye you're drawing. But it's really nice for this step if you just get it done. It will be very nice. Override, As you can see him adding a lot of details here. Just to help me with just help me in the next steps. All right. So I'm shading for that. Iris here. Think looks nice. Alright, let's just keep moving. So let's just continue here with this eyelash and now with the eyebrows. I just draw here something like that. Right? And for the mouse, you just refine the lines that you had before. And the last in the previous sketch. And some days will be more, will be nicer in the next steps. Ok, in here. And just keep drawing and finding all the lines of the body and the arm and everything. And this float. And now with her legs, just trying to keep it, you know, chubby and cute. To go a little bit more with the personal personality, this character. And it's okay to select any part though rotated or just modify it or take it anywhere all around. You get satisfied. You just hit em on the keyboard to get to the selection tool, the marquee selection tool, and you select any part. You also can choose L For the last suit tool to select. And as you can see, I just keep drawing and refining this sketch and adding these little q details. All right, let's continue and the ice cream here. Okay. And now for these tools from the mood board and just tried to draw it, you keep drawing. I will just make I just made this card like that here. Okay. So that's an initial sketch for it. And now other, for the other sand playing tools. That's now refine these two. As you can see, I just hear rotated the canvas that I'm working on. You can just hit our andrew date to any direction and when you're finished drying, you can just hit escape to get back to the, you know, to the to the direction that you wear, starting with o, right? That's where the cart and add some details and sand inside. And now with this bucket here, just keep refining it. No drag adjusted according to that perspective. And so and now as you can see, we have vanished sketching our character. So see you in the next lesson.
4. Vector: So now that we have finished our sketch on Photoshop, Now it's time to take this into Illustrator to start drawing it and vector lines. So let's get started. So this is our final sketch on Photoshop that we have just vanished in the last lesson, I just go here or hit em on the keyboard, like this rectangle marquee tool. And just isolate my sketch Control C and then base death Control or Command V. Here in a blank document on Adobe Illustrator, a version that you have, it's, it doesn't matter. So this is my sketch. There is a way to trace your sketch and stressing, and you often hear these properties and you keep playing with them and hit preview here just to see the results on your picture. When you are playing. And go out around here with these properties and parameters, you can just see how it affects your illustration. You can play with the threshold and with the noise and how many bass you have here and in your sketch, just to get to your desired result. Ok? And you just keep going on and on and just try to see how many noise you want to remove from this sketch. Whelming details you want in there, tell you just reach the final result. It's really interesting thing actually the image tracing here in Illustrator you can use on almost anything and even uncolored photos. You can do, experiment with this and play around to see what you can do with that. Okay? As you can see, my sketches changing each time I'm playing with these parameters. So it's really an interesting tool. And after you get to have the final result, you can hit expand. So I just expands everything you hit a and select all the white areas around. As you can see like that, you just selected and hit Delete on the keyboard to get rid of them so you can have your sketch finalized. The problem in that, in that way to it that you will be having this white, this white layer inside of everything like the eye, the mouse and everything. So you can remove it one by one or, or you can just remove this in one step that you can go good. Actually, I didn't get to experiment with this more, but you can find it. And that's it. So you'll be having this final thing or find the sketch the UK and start working on those ads for the image Trace option on Adobe Illustrator. Okay, so the way that we'll be using here today is let's just select oldest and delete. And then Control or Command V again to base my sketch from Photoshop and show you the way that I always used to do my illustrations. So so I just make it a little bit bigger and the document and take the opacity down just like that. So and I'll just elected and hey, control to, for it to get locked. And here I will be creating a new layer from the Layers panel and it will be above this sketch layer. And I would call an, a, a vector lines and that's my sketch. All right. So that's my vector lions layer though you're working on. Before we start, I want to show you that there is a lot of tools in Adobe Illustrator to draw. That's one of them. It's the Pen tool. You just go around with your they'll just make it only stroke and take it a little bit up for you to see the lines. So the Pen tool you can just make with the points like that with this one. With this tool, the curvature tool, you can just go with these anchor points like that. You can double-click any anchor point to make it a straight lines, or you can draw with the curves. The pencil tool is also, must start with a brush. The brush tool is also a nice way to draw. And you can also use these basic shapes, like rectangle or circle ellipse or rounded rectangle. You can use hexagon star, or any basic shape you have here. You can just use it. But my favorite one is the pencil tool. It's really, it's really nice. It, it's all about hand drawing and I'd just like to use it was my graphic tablet to draw by hands to feel as if, as if I'm drawing on my, on a paper with my pencil. So that's the pencil tool, or you can hit Enter on the keyboard. So let's get started. First, I just go, you know, like that. You can have Control or Command Z to undo whatever lying you're making. So I can start again to make it more correct. And as you can see here, I just draw the face, but you can see that the points are not, are not that good. So I can had right-click simplify and take these points a little bit down. So as you can see, the past gets more, you know, less anchor points and it gets, it gets a better curve. Or you can just use another thing that we will be mentioning later. And that's for the year. Let's just continue drawing. Here's the bow. Ok. Just like that's you. Draw on the lines of your sketch. It's arrived, you know, to modify any line that you just don't like. It's totally fine. Okay. And for the hair, we can just go like that. Ok. And something like that. Ok. We can make simplify as we mentioned, like and take the points down. Oh, right. That's for the neck. That's for the hair. And that's for hair. Swimming suit. As you can see, I just take this lead with faster for you as you got the point here. And what I'm doing with the pencil tool, you just follow all the lines and don't worry if you have overlapped lines. Because all this would be just hidden once you color your, your vector lions or you're drawing LB all head in with colors. And the lag you can head simplify. And you can hit a to select any of the anchor points and play with these handles that's out of the anchor points just to take, you know, like this, right or left where the errors are over with the mouse or with the pen. If you have a graphic tablet and you can just hit, right-click on the pencil tool in the toolbox and select the smooth tool to smooth any lines that are not correct. It's similar to the simplify option, but it's only a easier. And now for this pocket here, I just use the pen tool and the curvature dual. And here is the Pen tool for this straight lines. And now back to the pen i b, just drawing this and hit smooth, right-click on the pencil in the toolbox and select smooth to smoothen any curve that you're having. And now for the cards, I just go point-by-point with my curvature tool like that. Just enjoy the process. As I'm always saying in my previous classes, drawing an illustration is all about enjoying the process and it's kind of art. So you have to be happy when you're working on it. Exactly. And then for that curve, something like that. And through the wheels can do this. And we will be working on that later. It doesn't have to be perfect. Now, you'll go through a lot of iterations that you will see later on this glass. And I'm sure that you will enjoy it. I hope you can follow along with me now on your own Sketch. And don't forget to ask me any question. Why are we working in the discussion board? And I'd be more than happy to answer any questions that you're having. Or if you just faced any problem working on this class. I'm here to help. Okay, so back to the curvature tool and I'll be working on this Garth handle. One, right? And with this most tool, remember this most tool is like the simplify. This most tool we get it from right-click on the pen, pencil tool in the toolbox and simplify by right-clicking on while selecting any shape you're having. So let's continue drawing here. And don't worry about any details will be working on this again through, through the coloring and olden next steps. Just follow along with me. And as you can see, we are here finished listing this stroke little bit down like that were finished in the next lesson.
5. Color: So now that we have just finished our vector lines version of the sketch order or of our drawing. Let's start coloring. Let's first explore how to choose your color palette. I love to use Adobe color as you can. Use the explore tag up there. And you can just drive any keyword like summer or warm or like during the, or like girly, any keyword that you're having. And you just keep exploring here from all these pallets. It's actually really interesting and it works pretty much fine. It's an easy way for you to choose your color palette if you just don't have anything in mind and you just go through till we find something good. Or right. Now let's head to Adobe Illustrator again and see our veteran lines. And by the way, that's my color palette that I love to use. And AOB attaching this in the project section for you guys if you want to use it. Okay, let's first start by how to create one of these gradients and my palette, I create first an ellipse, okay, and just give it that's a solid color. You can choose any solid color that you want. But there's also an, and that's, you know, if you just chose it, you you don't have any color. No fill at all. And this one in the middle, it's the gradient option. It's really an interesting option in which when you hit g, you get this line with these two circles here. When double-clicking on any of them, you can just choose the color. You can, you need to choose this first to get this bar of colors. And you can just select any color that you're having and play around with the tones that it's really interesting to a guy as you can just play around with it and explore it more and experiment more shapes with the gradient. Okay, so let's hit D again and select this colour. For example, as you can see, we are dust creating interesting color gradients. Okay, you can see this here if we took it like that, it just it just helps you to choose where the color would stop. And you can also move this whole bar away from the shape you're having and you can just make it longer and play around with that. Okay. You can take it up and here, you can just rotate this around the shape you're making. Your district dated here from this and handle. And you can just it does drive in any direction and play with the Reagan get you made. It's really nice because you're making different shapes out of two colors, gradients. You can also use it in any organic shape. You just hit I for this eyedropper to select the same gradient. And now let's play with it. Just drag it around like that. You can also add any new color to this bar here, just till you find this arrow with a plus icon. Okay, here it is. And he does double-click on this and choose any color they are. You have in mind, a is just drag this around. Let's make it smoother. Can make it like that. Just playing with the colors and experiment and explore its a font step. I always like this coloring. Step in. It'll be illustrator, my working and my drawings. It's fun. And just gets your sketch in your vector lines version into life. Okay? So you just got the point here, right? So let's just select these two and hit delete, and also select this odd word icon and delete this art board. And let's get back to our sketch in the layers panel here, I'd just like to. You can find the sketch and you can find the vector lines just like that. And this is our vector lines that we dust dead in last in the previous lesson. Okay, let's create a new layer here and get its Linda mold into multiply. Okay? So this is the layer we just, David and list just start coloring. When I left to do here, some people just put this layer below the vector lines and just start working on coloring below it. But I just love to put it above. And let's call it colors and hit this icon. Let's take its Linda mode first and to multiply. Okay? And then let's start working. First, we need to select this vector lines Virgin and hit our new layer here and just drag this square up there. And what we can see here is that we have the colors in the layer and we have the victor lions in the new layer. So for this new layer, all we need to do is to take them blending mode into multiply. O, right? You just select any shape that you're having and hits the floor, the eye drop. And you can see, because we have multiply, you can see below and the sketch here. So we just select all the skin layers and hence I to select the same thing. Let's just select this swimming suit. As you can see here. It's this women who needs to be above the layers of the skin for the arms and legs. But we need to do is to right-click, arrange, OK, Range, and arrange bring to front. And as you can see here, down to the left. And just put the short guts on the keyboard for that. You can choose Control or Command. Square brackets on the keyboard, whether it's right or left, left for the backward and drive is for that forward. So I need this neck to be brought forward. You can go with all the steps, but if you just wanted to be on top of the older layers in one step, you can just hit Control or Command Shift and right square bracket. And it will just take it all above everything. And for the mouse here, I just select the gradient and hit G and change the color. Okay? And now for the eyes are just hit a and select it. And let's strike like on that. And select the white color from the color palette. For the hare here I will just select both of the hair layers. And you can see, you can see it's above that face. And what we need to do here is to take it all the way back. This part all the way back, control command shift, left square bracket on the keyboard. And for the ears, I just need to take it all the way above control command shift, right square bracket on the keyboard. And here for this now, I need to make it like that color, just like that. Okay? And here for the float, I just need first to make it look a little bit more decent than before we just drew this and the last lesson just quickly. So let's make something good now. I will select both of them and take it chose this orange gradient. Let's take it away a little bit to draw appropriately. So what we need to, so what we need to do here is select the shape builder tool or you can just use Shift M on the keyboard. And as you can see, if you just had old weekend delete this intersection between the two shapes. Just like that. Alright, and we just made our float soldiers. So the shape builder tool is an amazing tool that we'll be using a lot in illustrator. Let's continue. That's for the hand em for this ice cream. I think this scholar would be nice or maybe this, yeah, I'm for this wooden stack, just choose this and make this above Control Command Shift. Right? Square bracket. Okay? And let's continue. For her feet here. Let's first make this lamp a little bit nicer. And as you can see, I will make the next process a little bit faster for you guys as you got the idea. So I just keep picking head a, there's like a new layer and hit, I DO chose the eye dropper tool and select the color from your palette here. Just like that. The colors and arrange the layers in front of each other. And now I choose, I used the shape builder tool again. So if you're having, if you're having any two shapes that you would like to make. And we'd like to subtract any or subtract the intersection between them. You just select the two layers and had Shift M or choose the shape builder tool from the toolbox here in Adobe Illustrator and then had Alt, ng-click and the intersection, and you will just find that it's subtracted. And also if you have, if you're having to shapes that you would like them combined together, you just had you just select both of them and then had chuffed m for the shape builder tool. And you can just drag between them and you will find that they are that they became one. So in the shape builder tool is Shift M, and you can switch between the alt for subtracting and the dragging between any number of shapes that you're having to add them together or combine them together. Here in the mouse, we'll be drawing inside, just had the inside join side icon as I did and with the pencil tool, I can just draw the teeth inside of the mouth. As you can see here. And for the tongue, I will just draw this and hit I deselect a scholar and maybe let's make it a little bit darker like that here. Okay, and looks really nice. And as you can see, the drawing gut, really cute already. Ok. There's just had n to draw these little. Okay, that's first hit and modify this handle and then had to draw this little cute part in hair swimming suit, just like that. And hit I to select this color. I think it looks amazing. Okay, let's just continue and hit a or hit n and continue drawing on the same shape. And just hit a2. Modify this port here. Ok, let's continue. And here for the other part, can just draw this other one here and hit I deselect this color. Okay? So as you can see here, this arm needs to be all the way to the front control command shift right square brackets and hit a to select these handles and make them in a proper place. Okay, now this is really nice. Fine. Let's continue. And here for the eyes is just to get a and select these handles and anchor points is just draw inside here and select this ellipse tool called k. Just rotated a little bit. Okay, unless choose a color for the year. Iris, maybe this one. Or maybe let's just work on it a little bit. Hit g and play with the colors. Make a darker, make it lighter. It's all up to you to choose the colors that you like to use. I'm really excited guys to see your virgin of this character. If you're following along with me now. Ok, hit control C, control F to copy the same ellipse in, in place and then make it smaller and hence the black color, just like that. Okay? And then control C, control F to copy it again in place and make it smaller and had this eye dropper tool to choose white color. Okay? No, let's make it quite right. And now with the pencil tool, I will be drawing some random shapes as for the reflection in her eyes, something like that. And maybe let's make this blending mode into overlay. Maybe and take this color a little bit lighter, Something like that. Okay. And then to copy all this to the next to the other I maybe another one like that. Okay. Pathogen down a little bit. And then there's just hit a and select all these dust het one-by-one and head shaft in between them. In then Control-C had the other eye inside and then control V. And you can find that we have the same pupil of the other I just pasted in place. It's really easy, right? Okay. Gesture, rotate this little bit. Drawing the eye just brings the character to life just right away. And then, and then for the eyebrows, I will just draw it with the pencil tool and select the same color of the hair as you can see here and then the other one. Let's make it a little bit here. Yeah. Okay. Maybe make up little bit were a little bit. I can just draw with a pencil tool to add to the same shape. Alright. Okay. And now for the eye lashes, I just use the pencil tool to draw something like this. Just a line and then take the stroke, stroke up a little bit and change. No, let's, let's start over and just make seeing the same gradient as the hair and change the proof for stroke provide from here something like that. Okay. Maybe modify these handles on the i will write. And maybe we can make this little bit thicker. Just like that. Alright, let's modify this one. Okay? And now for the other eye, I need to draw this eyelash as well. The same as we did in the other. I just draw a line like that and hence, I just collect the same preferences and properties of the of the other eyelash. Just modify this a little bit. So you can see there's some extra point here. If you can see k is just modify this. You hit a and select these handles and these anchor points and play around until you get it right. Something like that. Okay. And now we have her eyes done eyebrows and eyelashes and everything. Okay. Now we've been drawing her lips with the pencil tool, something like that. And let's choose this color and take it a little bit backward below her mouth. Something like that. Okay. And now the last thing to do we'll be working on this here, bang here, playing with the anchor points and the handles that we are having here. Just something like that. Okay? And now I think we're ONE done. Okay, see you in the next lesson.
6. Details1: Hanging guys. In the previous lesson, we just finished coloring our character. Let's now add some more details. Okay? So, okay, let's start. I'm just editing here a little bit and working on the gradients. And so for this float, I think it can be on this side. It's okay for you to change your drawing wire. You're working. Actually do this all the time. And here a modifying this shape of this float by using the pencil tool and adding a little bit on it. Then I will be selecting hit II and getting this yellow color. And we're this arm, I just put it in the front. And maybe you just added this little bed with a pencil tool and modify it a little bit and add just like that. Okay? Okay. I think looks nice this way. And let's get to the Layers panel and hide this sketch layer. And for the court, I think this color will be nicer. So I just select this one and play Hit G and play around with the gradients as we talked before. And for this bart. And just make it like that. Taking a little bit darker and then draw inside with the pencil tool to create some depth, some layer for depth here, something like that. And then to act as if there is some sense in there by hitting on this color and then modifying the gradient. Will write, let's continue. For the face. I'll be modifying the gradient direction by end here for the cheeks too and the nose. So you can see from just hit double-click on any gradient point just like that, and then select the right color you want. Okay, and for the cheeks, IOB also working on the colors just like that. And for this one, just make it something closer to this. Okay. I think it looks nice now. Is maybe a little bit like that. And that's nice. Ok. Let's select all the face and put it in front of the neck. Okay. That's better. And for the neck life, work under gradient direction and the arms to, to make them look more rounder. And also for the hair. You know what? I think this hair colors needs some training LA that's where it can val ADR. Okay. Let's modify these handles to death arm a little bit. Okay? This arm needs to be holding this flow by embed. So I would just be just editing this. Okay? And maybe this flow it has like a duck head, you know, this, like this. And this orange peak here. Okay? All right, let's continue. For the hair higher will be modifying these anchor points. And for this ice cream I gestured date is like that. Okay. And then for this hair strand, I had just modified like this. Ok. Let's work on this bucket a little bit. So to make, okay. To me, to make this tool looks like as if it's inside the bucket. All we need to do here is to select both of them. As I showed you before. Select this part then this part and had Shift and Alt on their intersection. The outer part there was out then this part and make the over darker like this. Okay? And just hit the anchor point to modify this part. Here. If you just can select the pixels you can go to View and uncheck the snapping to pixel option. You'll find this very useful if you are having a hard time to select the pixels or select the anchor points. Okay? You just keep going with the anchor points and the handles. Just like I am doing now. To get to there is Altiero we want o, right? Okay. It's getting closer about fine now. Ok, let's continue. And I'm here editing this gradient on this float to be darker. And let's choose other colors for the hair. I think something a little bit brownie. Read Brown would look really nice. Okay, and for these two, let us choose this color here. And double-click and control C on the colored code to copy it to the eyelashes. Maybe this bracelet needs to be different in color. You just keep trying. Okay, but this here needs to be gradient as well as the rest of the drawing is like that. Just keep playing like this here. You can change that erection. And also here control I hit, I select the same gradient and maybe some of them I get ink. It's nice. Maybe this color. No. Ok. And also change this color here. And now let's work on this. Guard a little bit more. Ok. And be drawing this part here and modify it with the pencil tool as well. Okay. You just got the points you're playing around with your pencil tool and you keep moving. For this part. These wheels or are a little bit tricky. And I know there are hundreds of ways to do this, but that's my way. As you can see, you just keep it simple. I just keep experimenting. Unless until all the technical and rules, you know, I just go with my own taste and gold, My own feeling to modify something like that. So let's see how we're going to make it this far and give it the color. First, give it a color. And then chefs m for the sheep builder tool and select each one of this and that big circle and hit Alt to subtract that. Some who made this. Okay? For the inner parts here, I'd be adding little bit more in depth and send it to back. No gays and the tobacco as well. And this one. So that's for that we'll we'll be working on this later to make it more more correct unless just copy this now by heading off and drank. All right. You can hit OK. Okay, for this handle, I have just modify a little bit and take it like that. By selecting this circle, you make any straight angle to be little, a little bit round. Okay? I just modify these, these gradients here for the length as well and for the feet. Just like that. Okay. That's just modify these anchor points and handles. All right. I want to make it more severe and more gravy and chubby. Okay. That's just like all this all this leg. And they said to the other one and just modify this. These anchor points here. Just something like that. Okay? That's better. Okay? I'm just playing around to see if there's anything else to add at this point of our illustration. Alright? And that's men find this one. And this one too. Yeah, maybe let's rotate this leg. It looks cuter now. Yeah. Just like it like that. Maybe. Mint looks nice. Ok. Let's continue. I think the upper body needs to be rotated a little bit to the right. Yeah. Just to feel the balance. And the and a little bit to the left. Just a few the balance on this land here and just modifying the gradient. Okay? You just keep anything until we feel that you got to the final result that you're seeking here. I'm playing around with the pencil tool to modify this, these anchor points. Okay. Let's draw her flip flops. Just something quick and cute. Hint, I just select the color of the swimming suit and just modify these anchor points here and handles. Let's now work on the email, so on the slippers. Right? Just something like this. Okay, let's let both of them and hit. I select this color and experimental hillbilly with colors. I think we will be keeping in as this dark color. Control C control V2. Based it to the other foot. No. Let's just draw this. It's first draw this part. And then for this guy, we just drying it from scratch because the two directions are not the same. You just keep playing with your pencil tool and see what you can do. Okay? Find that does pretty good for now. And we can just make cute little flower here and there. And maybe rotate this a little bit. All right, let's continue. As you can see, the more details you're adding to your drawing. It, it just gets alive. And I just love this. I love this step a lot. You can say this cart here, maybe in this bucket, a little bit bigger and maybe here. Fine. I can just draw like a part of the beach below her. Something made that I think looks so cute. And you can already feel some are, you know, in that drawing. Okay. It's continued. So for this step, I think we're getting closer. You can play around with color along the way. But for this step, maybe one, find that touch here. These two parts, just to go along with the two bars in in the bottom. And take all this. Okay? Yeah, that's much better. And just add a contrast here. Right? And that's so queued for this step. See you guys in the next lesson just to continue working on this illustration.
7. Shading: All right, great progressivity and done so far, guys, let's keep moving forward. And in this tab or in this lesson, we will be working on the shading for this character here. So what we need to do is to select the face and join side. And with the pencil tool, we just DO some kind of the shading layer. Like damnedest undecided the face below the hair and change its color. Me, which was something a little bit red. And then here in the Blending Options, we select multiply and take the opacity a little bit down. And we can play around with the colors. Just like that. As you can see it already added depth. We'll be moving forward and continue doing the same thing for all the layers that we have here. The arms, the neck, the legs, and everything. You just select the layer. Draw inside with a pencil. Do you draw shaped like shading? Just like that. Honestly for me either, there are no rules here. Guidelines you just like you can guess it in. You can just guess where once you have decided where the light is coming from. So here in my character or in my illustration, that light is coming from the right side. Though. All this tough for all the layers in the left side will be having like shade or a shadow in it. And now for the ears. Okay? Okay, so for the, I will just draw inside a layer here and also make it multiply with low or by 30 m for the other eye as well as FSH shadow below the eyelashes. And also for this hair bands, I will be making these shadows. Here. I really love this step. It just adds depth right away after you've make few layers of these. I think you just need to play around with colors for this part. Maybe we can find something better. And I think I love this one better. Okay. For the hair as well would be making this color and shading of the hair. We will be making this shadows as well. Perfect for this swimming suit here. We'll be making this shadows as well. Just adding depth to the character as you can see. And this one here will be having little bit shadows here. Okay? That looks so nice. Alright. And now let's add some shading in here. So you can see this overlapping or intersection here. I just put in a little bit away by playing with the anchor points. And also for this, I will be drawing this shape here. Okay? Nick actor is already changing guys. It's, it's getting more alive. Okay? It's just continue. Alright. And for this parts here in their swimming, so I will be making this, these stripes. Here's something that you, that you just add some contrast in the shape and the form of these parts. And also here. Because why not? Okay. Just drying here, okay, something like that. And now for this bracelet, let's just modify some handles and anchor points. As we can see. And play around with the pencil tool until we get it right. It does need to feel that, you know, you need to be happy while doing it and have fun in this process, had just hit the Eraser tool. Just to erase this part of it. Let's choose play around with the colors. Okay, let's give it a little bit. The shadow in here. Something like that. Maybe. I think its color is now a little bit off according to the other design elements, but let's work on that later. You know, I just can't appeal it. Here's keep playing around. Okay. All right, for this bow here. I also made this shadow here. No gay. And also this one. Just draw inside. Okay, just drawing tie into the pencil tool and hit I to select the same Chido we're I think for this card it needs to to get more blue. I believe it will just go. Go bidder along with the whole illustration. So I just keep experimenting with the purples maybe. But actually I don't think it works. So let's go a little bit to the Blues. Maybe. Try this first. I know it feels weird, but this one is cool. Let's take some light color and see you will be doing gear. And so then these parts and go a little bit dark here in the green things panel. Well, let's make some shadow here in this sand. And let's draw inside this part also a make some shadows for the character and for all these shapes. Something like that. As you can see, adding this makes a lot of depth to the whole illustration already and it's really nice Me for the bucket as well. Yeah, something like that. Perfect. And thus for the float and I don't think there was a little bit down. Okay. For this card that I will be drawing the shadow. You draw inside with a pencil tool inside of the card, for the wheels and everything. And just keep going down, right? And for this ice cream, I also add some depth to this. And for the float as well. Yeah, something like that. And also here. And select the same gradient for this head. I also draw inside like that and make something like this. It's just modified the gradients here. And just modify this capacity year. And also this one will be having some shadow. And maybe drawn I just, uh, my guy for this one. Okay. In some shadow for it, the flour. And also this one here. Perfect. Okay, for this bucket, I forgot to draw inside. Ok, let's head inside. And then for this bucket, I just make something that looks really nice. And for this one here, I will be working on this hand. Okay? Join a triangle and then select both of them and had chest M, as I showed you before and had old to subtract that inner triangle. Let's just create some depth in here. My making a darker part here. Okay. And then these two shaft and for the sheep builder tool, also, for the inner part, I would just joined ME that and send it back. If you can remember, to send some layer to back, you just hit Control or Command, Shift that square brackets from the keyboard. And also this part needs to have some shadow. Okay, so that's where the buckets here. And maybe the inner part of this flow needs a little bit of gradient also as a shadow. And now I think it's ready cute for this step. So see you in the next lesson.
8. Details2: Welcome back again. And now that we've finished shaping our character and adding some details, let's add even more details for the character to make it come to life. Okay? So I just keep selecting layers and add some, you know, some layers here. And for this part I will be adding some highlight layers. Just like here. Thank the hair. And so, but the blending mode will be Overlay instead of the multiply for the shadows, and it will be over, lay and selecting a bright color to appear. And take also the opacity down. Okay, and here I use the pencil tool to draw something like this. And also so that the same thing and even take it rider and Davey bus is a little bit up to grade, something like that. I think is really nice. And just added some touches here to the BAL. Let's continue. And for this one to withdraw inside and use the pencil tool to draw and then hit I deselect the same layer that you just created. The overt lay layer with a bright color. And take a Pasiphae down for this one. Because you can see you just made it feel a little bit squishy and it looks very nice. And maybe this one here, 24, the face I just draw inside to make this highlight part. On this side of the face. Let's make it something like this with a bright color. Okay. And maybe something here and take the particular little bit down. Perfect. Okay. I'm just here playing around the gradient on the cheeks to make it look more reddish. Perfect. Okay. And now for the nose IV join side also a highlight layer. Just like the one we did on the face. I just hit I unselect the same one and end a little bit of a shadow below the nose. Ok. So let's continue. All right. And now for the ears, I just draw inside to make this overlay layer as a highlight. And also for the neck. Just like got hit I intellect The same with it and on the face. Ok, and also for the arm. I abusing the pencil tool to draw inside some highlight as we did. And let's just keep continuing. Irb drying this skew tart on her arm. I think it looks so cute. Let's make it just like that. Oh right. I'm for this arm, I have been making also this highlight as we did on the face. And for these fingers, let's work more on the shadows of the fingers, just like that. And so you can see you just added some depth and some highlights here as well. For this ice cream I'll be drawing to make these shapes as, as the real one, the real ice cream. Okay. And okay. That's perfect. Let's keep going. I hope you're following along with me guys. And I really hope that your learning some new tabs here and you just get more familiar with the steps and with everything we're doing here. And it's easier now. Now for the swimming 2D drawing and this pattern of these little cute circles I just drew. When I just DO, I just drew one and I just keep, you know, selecting and pasting it. Alt, drag to base it all around. Just as acute pattern. And now let's just make something like this. Distal along with the design of the swimming suit. And it looks so cute. Okay. That's going to find this little bit. Okay. It's just drawing inside. Make some shadows here. And also here. That's better. And for this one I will be making these stripes of shadows as we did before on the ones on her shoulder. And for these little cute circles, I don't just make them Overlay just like that. Well, that looks very nice. Let's keep going. Now for her legs, I will be making this highlight also. He modified a little bit. And for this link as well. I've been making some shadows here first. And this highlight layer as well. Okay, now let's continue. Let's add some details to this. And then maybe some stripes like that with the pencil tool and overlaying they've evaluated down a little bit. Looks better. Okay for this and I can make little highlight like that. Ok. And also to this handle of the cards, and maybe to this float as well. You know, to add this cozy Bambi float effect does like that. And also here, also to this handle the guard. You add some highlight. Just know inside and draw the shape. And hence I deselect the same. Conger. Make something like a gradient here on her chin. Listed MOOC. You know, little bit cuter. Okay. Let's modify these eyebrows a little bit. Just like that. Well, no, that's job this all night. And let's add some highlight here for this hair bank. That's much better. Okay, let's now add these two screws here to this part. And let's modify it around a little bit. Maybe add some shadows to the knees. Okay. All right, for the swimming suit, I be joined PSI to make this cute pink parts. Does that. All right. And now let's draw some indication for the c just like that with the pencil tool and bring it to the back. And we can select this gradient here and double-click on the points to select this white. Think looks really nice. And also join side to make something like some waves and save the bath you down. Just like that. And here's as well. That's really nice. Okay. Let's now make some layer below the sand here as if it's, you know, a lower ground. You go with maybe right? And just change its color and something like this. And for the guard, let's add these two circles, or ABS is here. And multiply these anchor points. And therefore the bucket them adding some no highlights two. And I'll draw inside some sand as well. Just take this one and modify the gradient. It's, you can see. So that's all for this step. And I think looks really nice though for you guys in the next lesson.
9. Outfit: So now that we've finished a lot in our character in and added a lot of details. Let's now continue to creating new alphabets. As you can see here, I added some text and some extra details, and here I made new poses and new outfit for her. And now in this lesson I'll be showing you how to make a new outfit for your character and how to play around with her poses. So let's hit Alt and drag this one here. And let's continue. All right, so let's first just remove this part. Okay, remote this part here from this output to create our own outfit. Alright. So what we need to do now is during all this link as well, because it's different pose, we need to get to a little bit that new drove pose. If you are drawing the body parts as separate parts, it will be easier for you to change all around their character. If you have, you know, the food-like in inner layer and what a separate part. And the knees and the shoulders, email and the hands, the fingers, and every bars in the face. It will be easier for you to change the position for your character. That's just delete this these parts from the last output. As you can see, we didn't continue working on the buddy here. So let's just draw like a sample body with the pencil tool or something like that. Just to make you get the idea and take this arm, take this body below everything else, and just delete these boards here. All right, and let's just continue working on that and take this arm LIGO. So before starting, let's try to change the hair. This character like making a girly or something and just, you know, modify. It's also in movies. And drive from scratch how to make his or her little bit Curly. Just for you to get the idea that you can change the hair of any character the way you want. You can just work. You can just watch some references of any haired dive that you would to draw our any hairstyle. And you just try to do something like it. And you will be having a new hair for your character has just removed this heart as well. And now that's worth more on our outfit. Let's edit this body a little bit. And here we can draw something that can dress with our pencil tool. And let's bring their color with the color palette near us. And change the color as you want. Let's stay with this arm up. And right, that's modify. This stress. Does something like this. Looks really cute. And think these links. Okay. So maybe we can just make, we can just draw these two acute goods in her foot. In her feet. All right. And then let's just draw this back part of the dress and make a darker. Making this just adds a lot of depth and makes your address so real. And with the pencil tool, you just keep editing and modifying here. It's really fun playing around with their character outfits like that. You just can bring some references and create your own outfit. And now let's draw inside the dress and may maybe sometimes some tribe, a striped pattern like that. And then drawn side again to make some kind of color here like that. And as you can see that two simple new outfit from that, from our character. So let's head to the last lesson here in this class. And let's go.
10. Facial Expressions and final : And now that we got to our last lesson in this class, I hope you guys are enjoying what you're doing. I'll show you how to create facial expressions for your characters. So let's get started. I usually love to head to toe, head to Pinterest, to search for any references. They want to have like hair or outfits. But now you'll be searching for a kid's faith expression drawing. As you can see here, we have a lot of sheets for facial expressions, cartoon ones, early ones, anime, manga, whatever style I want. I just like this one here. That just keep looking around. Maybe you can just find something better. I think for now, I like this one, so I'll be right-click and hit Copy Image and then get back to my Illustrator file and control V to paste it. Let's just take this one with the altitude that we just did here. And I'll take this shadow here. Let us draw a shape below her eggs, OK, and just create a gradient. As you can see, my gradient is two colors and one of these colors is the Rue percent opacity. Just to make this effect of fading. I just wanted to show you guys this one. So let's get back to the facial expressions and to make Fisher aspersions for my character, I will just be selecting her face like that and control V to paste it just like this one. The neck. Okay? So the phase expression that we will be starting with is that's choose one. I think. Maybe this crying when it's good to start with. Alright, let's start. I believed this, these lips. And I hit n to modify this mouth shaped as you can see. And that they're really looks nice. Yeah. Can you see what we're doing here with the pencil tool? You can just create tons of mouth expressions and really help, really helps in the animation if you want to. So now I think this mouse is really nice with the exception of crying. Okay? And here for the eyes is just hit. The group that we made for the iris here. This one, I think, you know, it looks, it doesn't look good. Let's just move this pupil here. Something like that. And as you can see, it's already looks mad or sad. And now let's change the eyebrows. As you can see in the sheet, it's little bit faced downwards. So let's draw with them like that. Just enjoyed drawing guys enjoyed drawing freehand or within tool you want. So now she's mad. We would like to make her crying. So inside of the eyes I disjoined size, something like that and hit this color and make it little bit opacity a little bit down. Because the tiers are kind of transparency because their water and for the other eye as well. And maybe to make her face a little bit, you know, downwards like that and some tears on her cheeks. She looks so sad. I feel bad for her. And for the other one. That's also make death. I just need to be no, modify this a little bit as if there is no theory that is about to drop. Okay. And also this one and maybe some reflection here in her tears. All right. And we'll be Eraser tool. I will just erase this part. Maybe take this a little bit up. I think. And that's modify this part as well. Take it up me like that. You just keep playing and experimenting with your facial expressions. You can take them to the extreme. It's, it's all up to you. And let's make it like this 12 for the other eye or right. Just like that. So facial expressions is all up to you. You just play around with them. Do you just get satisfied? And with the pencil tool, let's just modify the eyes shapes. And now after we finish the mouse expression, we will just draw these lips that's like this color and take it below the mouse. Ok. That's her chin. Just so she's so sad and crying. Oh, right. Okay. I think this one looks nice. But if we made it inside the the face, I believe it would be better. Just something like that. Let's just try them around. Just like that. Okay, and that's for the first facial expression. Let's also select the face again to work on our next facial expression. So hit Control V, OK. And hit right-click transform. Commercially to make it facing the other direction. And let's work on this. Okay, let's take it load here, and let's start. Okay. I first remove this one, these eyelashes and create this islands here and work on their gradients. And then maybe modify them a little bit. And then update the face, the mouse. And create the other island. And then draw this eyelash here. And for the other eye as well. Something like that. Maybe modify it and of faith a little bit. And take this reflection to the other eye as well. Ok, and for her mouth and just draw something like this. You know, it's like the expression of the genome as if she's bored or she doesn't care. Okay? And just play around with the stroke color for this mouse expression. That's work on the eyes a little bit. Take them off the eye. Just to the right. Maybe something like that. Okay. And that was for this expression, you just select all the layers and had control G or right-click group to make it in one group. Alright, let's now work on our next facial expression. We just paste the original neutral face. Okay? Well, right, and that's work first on, on this mouse will be making it something like so angry. And see how far we can just get that. Let's take the eyes mouth needs to be updated to let's finish the eyes first. Oh, right. Just remove the eyebrows and the eyelashes and work on the eyes and direction. And for her to be so angry, I need to take the eyebrow to be here. If she's so angry, you know, likes so pissed. Okay. And saying these are the bit down. Let's just work more on the mouth. Yeah, something like that. And you just got the idea you can create as much facial expressions for your character as you want. I just can't wait to see your projects guys. Just show me in your project, what are the references that I used from Penn, from Pinterest or from any reference that you chose. And now I finished this one, control g, to make it as one group. Let's now work on a final facial expression. That's, let's just choose it and work on it. Okay? So IRB pacing here, the original phase for my character. I think I will be making, you know, like, how can we in love for a chai? I shy face to really look cute on this character. So I'm just entertain these gradient colors of the cheeks to get them right. Right. Just like that. Perfect. For her mouth. Just draw something like this. Just a small little Q gi mouse here. The three leaflets, our character. And again with the cheeks. And just play around until we get them right. You can take a little time here, but it's it's getting rides. Every time. It's getting ride my time. And he will get used to working with gradients. Okay. And take this chin, something like that. No, let's just redraw. This phase contains the neck movement down. Let's just create some little q targets here and there. Just like that. And I think it looks really nice. And some white reflections as if she is having in those bright shining, briefly eyes just like that. And control G for this last expression here. I hope you guys got the idea of the facial expressions and how easy him fondly can be. So lets go through our project here we first started with this illustration and remained this outfit them poses. And then we created these four accute facial expressions for her. I hope you guys enjoyed working on this and I really thank you for watching and for following along with me. Please feel free to make your own character and uploaded in the project section. And please leave a review if you liked it. It was only Amor with you and feel free also to check my other glasses for a character illustrations and for more works, you can check my histogram below.
