application that changed the face of
design industry forever. Since its inception,
Canva has made it possible for everyone to create
stunning designs quickly, even if they are not
designers or have had any design
education with Canva. Not only can you create graphic designs for
print and digital media, you can also easily create
presentations, edit videos, and add animations,
write content, and even create websites. Canvas intuitive interface makes it easy for new users to use while still giving

started with Canva. Then you will learn to
create a new project. Then learn to use templates. You utilize an AI feature
called magic design. Then work with folders and then learn to
publish design projects. Next, you will learn various
design editing techniques. From how to add design elements. Setting various parameters
related to shapes, texts, photos, and graphics. Then learn to upload and
use your own image assets. Learn to use the group
and frame features. Then learn to use various
layout techniques in Canva. Then you will also learn how to edit PDF files using Canva. For the final project, we will put all that we
have learned into practice to create a design for
you to video Tamil. Again, this is just the first of Mini canva or series that I
will be releasing on score. By taking this on line or
series in shallow you and your business will be able to utilize Canva to its
fullest potential. Creating designs of any kind will no longer be
a burden for you. Instead, it will be your
age over the competition. So don't wait any longer. Join this chorus now and start your journey in
mastering Canva Salamu.
2. Projects files and shortcuts: Welcome to the online chorus Canva for complete beginners. Before we get into the lessons, there are a few important
things I need to explain. First, this online chorus doesn't actually require
any project file. Because most of the
graphic elements you need can be obtained directly
from canvas library. But there are some lessons where I upload my
own image files. For this, you are free
to use your own files. However, if you
want to match the image files you use
with the ones I use, you can download the files
from the following link. Please pay attention to the letter cases as this
link is case sensitive. Next up is the keyboard
shortcuts issue. I recorded all lessons
in its online course using a PC with Windows
stand operating system. All the keyboard shortcuts will use only apply to PC computers. If you are using an
Apple computer or Mac, you can still use the
keyboard shortcuts. It's just that you need to
just the keys a little. Generally, the control key on a PC is comparable to the
command key on a Mac. And the key on PC is comparable
to the option key on Mac. Most users are already aware of these
keyboard differences, but I still need to explain it at the beginning
just to play safe.
3. About Canva: If you have decided
to take this course, chances are you already
know what Va is. But just to be safe, I need to clarify several
things related to Ken Va so we are all on the
same page. What is V? Simply put, Canva is an
online application that can help us create designs
for different types of media. You can use it to create
posters, brochures, social media graphics,
presentations, videos, websites, and so on. The list of canvas capabilities continues to grow over
the years as it develops. Canva, which was
founded in 2012, was originally a company
based in Sydney, Australia. Now, Canva operates globally
or around the world. What sets Canva apart
from other design tools that have come
before is is of use. Instead of having to create
everything from scratch, Canva provides
tons of ready made templates As users
most of the time we only need to tweak the
templates just a bit to fit our needs if we were
more customizations. Canva also provides tons of
ready made design elements. We can still change or modify these design
elements further. We can say that Canva
is a design tool. It is very easy to use even by non designers
and or beginners. However, it still provides professional designers a wide room for
further creativity. You open canvas
official website, which is Canva.com then open
the plans and pricing page, and then open the
compare pricing link. You can see that Canva is available in several
pricing tiers. If you are a teacher or
a school administrator, or even a student, you
can get Canva 100% free. Of course, to get
this privilege, you need to go through a
verification process first. For personal or business users, you can start using Canva for free by choosing the
Canva free plan. In general, you can
access almost all Canva features even if you
use the Canva free plan. If leader you need
more features, you can upgrade your account to the Canva Pro Plan or
Canva Four Teams plan. The price will be
cheaper in total if you pay annually
compared to monthly. Canva also provides
custom pricing if you enter the number of your team members in this field. For example, this
is for one person, this is for two people. And if I type ten, for example, this is the custom
pricing offered by Canva to check feature
differences between the plans. You can see the details
in the list below. Obviously, the more
expensive the plan, the more benefits or
surfaces you get. I'll just touch on a
few differences which are usually the main
considerations in choosing a plan. The first is the amount
of design content. Can v free users only
get 250,000 templates, whereas Canva pro users in addition to getting everything
that the free users get, they also get access to over 100 million of content in the form
of design elements, photos, videos, and so on. This is a huge
amount of content. Perhaps this benefit alone already far exceeds the
price we have to pay. But again, this is only useful if we often create
designs using Canva. Besides that, can
pro users also get 24 hour customer
support and then they also get up to 1
terabyte of cloud storage, whereas free users
only get 5 gigabytes. Now if you work in a team, you might be interested in a top tier plan called V Thames. On this plan, users can access various collaboration and
communication features, such as commenting
a signing work, creating reports, and more. If you are still not sure
which plan you need, just start with the free plan. And even if you think
you need to upgrade, know that both Canva Pro and Canva teams provide
free trial offers. It's better to take advantage of this free trial period before deciding to
purchase the plan. Finally, before I
end this video, I need to emphasize that
everything I've said in this video is valid in mid 2023, which is the time when
I recorded this video. These features and
pricing policies may change at any time. So it is possible that
when you watch this video, there will be some changes to the features and, or the prices. The point is you need to go back to this pricing page to confirm what features you
will get before you decide to purchase
a certain plan.
4. Getting started with Canva: To get started with Canva, you can open your browser and go to the official
Canva website at Canva.com If you already
have an account with Canva, simply press the login button. But if not, you can use the
sign up button to register. Both will display
a similar panel. Now if you already have
an account with Google, or Microsoft, or Facebook, or Apple, if you're
using a computer, the login or sign up
process can be even faster. You should note that
the login options you see here may differ depending on the
device you are using as well as the country
or location you are in. For example, I
live in Indonesia. For users in Indonesia, you can log in with a blood erroded account for your
information Blood Got. Id is a government program that provides various online
benefits for students. If you are a student
in Indonesia, from Pot to Grade 12 or
even Grade 13 for Amca, you can get free
access to Canva. Of course, you need to create a student account
first at Badger ID. For now, let's assume you want to register manually
using your own e mail. First, you need to
enter your e mail. The system will check whether e mail you input has been
registered or not. If not, you will be prompted to create a new
account After that, don't forget to open your e mail inbox to verify your e mail. I will log in with my Google
account to save time. Once you have
successfully logged in, here is what you will see. If this session is your
first time using Canva, you may get some questions first about your purpose
for using Canva. Feel free to answer all of them. Depending on your situation. Your choices will help Cava prioritize the content that will be suggested to you leader. For now, I will use
the personal option. Then you will also be offered
a free trial of Canva. Basically, you can
use all the features of Canva Pro for
free for 30 days. Feel free to take up this offer. In the earlier part
of the course, we will only focus on features available in
a Canva free tier. Then as we progress to
the end of the course, we will discuss the
features of Canva. For now, I click this
maybe leader button. After that, Canva asks if you want to join Canvas
email newsletter. You may join now or
not. It is up to you. You don't need to worry about
making the wrong choice. Because later you can still customize what kind of
content you want to receive. All right, on the left side
you can see the side bar. You can show or hide
this side bar by pressing the burger button
or sandwich button above. If you open canvas and you don't see the side
bar on the left side, just press the burger button. Next, you can access the setting speech by
pressing this geon. There are many settings that
you can set on this page. For now, let's discuss the most important ones in
the your account category. You can change your
profile picture. This may be important
if you work in a team so that your colleagues can quickly recognize your account. Next, if you scroll down, we can set them color of
canvas, UI or interface. You can set the color
to light or dark, or we can automatically follow the color settings
of the operating system. Then in the login and
security category, you can change your
password if you want. Since I use my Google
account to log in to Canva. I don't have a separate password option
that I can change, but if you've signed up with
the e mail method manually, this is where you can set
the password settings. Next in a message
preference sub section, you can set what types
of notifications canva, can send you to your e mail. You can click here
if you don't want to receive any e mails
on celebration days. Here you can specify the type of news or notifications
you want to receive. This is for setting
the frequency. If you want to opt out of the email newsletter completely, you can click this
unsubscribed button. All right, from this page. If you want to go back
to the main page, just click on a Canva
logo on the top left. The last thing I
want to explain in this video is that
in addition to being available as web app or an application that
runs in a browser, Canva is also available
as a desktop application. To access it, you can press this button if you have
installed the app before, then pressing this button
will open the desktop app. But if you haven't, Canva will guide you to download and
install the desktop app. I have the desktop version already installed.
Off the record. Therefore, if I
press this button, then confirm, I am now accessing Canva through
the desktop app. As you can see, the
desktop version of Canva looks very similar
to the web version. This will make it easier
for us to learn both. Basically, if we learn
the web version, we automatically learn
desktop version two. The advantage of using the desktop application is that it helps you to
open Canva faster. As you can create a shortcut for the app on your task
bar or desktop. It also helps you to
focus on your project without the distraction of various websites
in your browser.
5. Creating a new design: Before we get started
for your information, I am currently using Canvas, desktop app, and not
the website version. Because the interfaces
are similar. You may keep using the website version if
you want. All right. To create a new
design in Canvas, there are a few ways you can go. One of them is by clicking the Create A Design
button above. As you can see,
there are tons of different types of
design projects you can create on canvas. You can create graphics for
social media like Instagram. Make videos, posters, and so on. As our mouse hovers
over one of them, you'll see their sizes. If the design preset is for digital media or
monitor screens, then the unit is pixels. But if it is for print media, then the units are
centimeter or millimeter. Two design options
that new users often ask about are
dog and whiteboard. A brief explanation. First, Doc is basically used
to create digital documents. You can add various
design elements just like a block page. You can share the documents
you create via link. You can then also download
it as a PDF file and so on. Then for Whiteboard,
this is the type of design project in canvas
that has no size limit. Its purpose is to replace the whiteboard function that
exists in the real world. You can use it, for example, to manage projects by creating, can burn boards and gun charts. Brainstorming by
creating mind maps, or just personal reminders by creating sticky
notes and so on. We will have a dedicated chapter discussing whiteboard features. Now, apart from scrolling
and selecting manually, you can also filter this
last by typing in keyboards, for example, you
can type Instagram. Then Canva will only show design templates
specifically for Instagram. Let's say choose the one with a square size of
1080 by 1080 pixels. The project we created in Canva will be lined up on
top as a new tab. This is to go back
to the main page, and we can click
the tab again to go back to our previous project. The website version of
Canva works the same way. The only difference is
that the tabs on top are the tabs belong to
your Internet browsers. The first thing you
should do after creating a new design project
is to give it a name. You can do this by
clicking on this area and then just typing in the name you want to
use for the project. For example, I'm naming
this one Instagram 01. Now let's go back to the main
screen or the home page. Another way to start
a design project is by using the
home page directly. You can utilize the
search function or you can go through the
category buttons below it. For example, this is
the videos category, this is the print products
category, and so on. Specifically for you category, you will see a list of
design templates similar to what we see when we press
create a design button. The difference is that here
we can see thumbnail images. Below you can see the design projects that
you have created recently. Let's try creating a
whiteboard project for now. As usual, we can give this
design project a name. Let's say Whiteboard 01. Next, if you notice, the appearance of this whiteboard type
project is slightly different from the appearance of the Instagram type
project next to it. At first glance, we can
see similar features, but there are also
different ones. Take this panel on the
left, for example. Both the Instagram and
Whiteboard projects look exactly the same. There are many features
provided by the side panel. We will discuss them gradually. If you want to close
this side panel, just press this little
arrow button to reopen it. Just like one of the
tabs or category icons, if I click on the text icon, the side panel will open again. But now with the
text step active. From here you can switch to
another tab if you want. Again, this panel
area is the part of Canva that is likely to be uniform across
different projects. Yes, we will see slight differences later when
we discuss the app feature, but that will be a discussion
for another chapter. For now, let's assume that the side panel always
looks the same. Let's shift our focus to
the tools in this bar area. They are generally uniform with slight differences depending on the type of design project. For the whiteboard type, we can press this
grid view button to see the whiteboard
pages in a grid layout, you can see that this
project only has one page. We can press the plus button
here to add a new page. We can delete the selected
page or duplicate the page. If we want to open
a specific page, we need to double click
on the page Tum nail. Now if you try to open
the Instagram project, you can also see the bar below. There is a grid view
button here as well, which functions the same. But if you look closely, it doesn't have a
time or button. As for this page button, apart from the
whiteboard project, most other types of design
projects also have it. The reason I explain all of this at the beginning is that if we have already discussed
a feature or a tool in a certain
type of project, while another type
of project has exactly the same
thing, most likely, I will not explain it again, this is to save my time
and your time too, unless the features
are different. At this point, you
might be wondering then where is the save button
or how do we save or work? Well actually you don't
need to save your work manually because every time
we make changes to our work, Canva will save it, automatically, lose
this cloud icon. As long as there is a check
mark on the cloud icon, your work has been saved. If the checkmark doesn't appear, then your work is
not saved by Canva. This might be because there is a problem with your
Internet connection. After you have your
connection resolved, you can force Canva to save the project by
pressing this icon. Or you can also go to the file menu and select
this save command.
6. Create designs from templates: Previously we created
a design project from scratch. Blank page. In this video, we will create a design project from a
template provided by Canva. This is why working with Canva is so much
more convenient, and why Canva has become so
popular in such a short time. By using templates, most of
our work is already done. Or at least we can
use the templates as starting points to
create our own designs. There are at least four ways
to use templates in Canva. Let's go through
them one by one. The first method is to utilize the category
icon on the main page. If you notice on each of
these category pages, Canva provides a blank
project at the top. However, if we scroll down, we will see the
design templates. This is the first method. The second method is to utilize the side bar
on the left side. That is by pressing
the template category. You can open or close the subcategories by pressing
the small arrow buttons. Alternatively, you can also select the category
from this area. For example, I can use social media and use
Instagram Post Square. We can pick the template we
want to use from this list. For now, let's go back
to the main page. Now, apart from pressing
the Canva logo, you can also return
to the main page by pressing this
back to home link. All right, the third method is to utilize the
search feature. This is very useful
if we want to be more specific in
finding the templates. Just make sure you use the templates option and
the projects option. You only use the projects
option if you want to search for your own projects
you have created before, you can see the two projects I have created in the
previous lesson. Again, make sure the
templates option is active and just type in
what we want to search for. Just for example, let's
say we want to open a new toy store and we want
to promote it on Instagram. We can type toy store Instagram. You can directly select the
template that appears below. But I suggest you don't
select anything in this panel and just hit the Enter key
or click on this or link. Because if you do that, you'll be taken to a page where you can see all
the search results. There are more templates
that you can choose from. Now, when choosing
a design template, you need to pay attention to this small gold crown
icon, or the RP. If the template looks clean
or doesn't have any icons, this indicates that the
template is completely free. But if it has a gold crown icon, then you can only ******
the template if you have a paid account like
Canva or Canvas. Whereas templates that
display the RP symbol like this indicate that they
contain paid design elements. Rp means rupa, the currency
in my country, Indonesia. If you are in another country, you will see a different
chronic symbol. So what is the
difference between a template with a crown and
one with a currency symbol? If you are a canvas free user, you can still use a template
like this by paying a small fee for only the paid
design elements you use. At the time I
recorded this video, it usually costs only
$1 per design element. This pricing standard may change in the future or when
you watch this video. However, as a free account user, you cannot use the templates
that have the crown symbol. To access these templates, you'll have to upgrade to
Canva or Canva for teams. Meanwhile, if you use
one of these paid tiers, you can use all templates
on a Canva platform, including those with
paid design elements. For now, let's just pick a free template
such as this one. Canva will show you a preview in larger version and
also display its size. If you like the template, you can press the customized
this template button. This will start a new
project using the template. So waves. We should first
give each new project a name. I'll just call
this one toy store Instagram 01. All right. As you can see,
our design project this time is not empty. Instead, it already has
several design elements. You can select a design
element by clicking on it. You can move them
by click dragging. If the element is text, you can double click to
change the text and so on. We will discuss design
editing techniques in more depth in another lesson. For now, let's discuss the fourth method of
using templates in Canva. If we are currently on a
project work space like this, we can utilize the panel on the left to select
design templates. Make sure the design
tab is active, and make sure the templates
option is also active. You may use the search
feature here if you want. For now, let's try
to find a free one. For example, this one. If you already have
some design elements or if our canvas is not empty, Canva will first try to confirm whether we want
to replace everything on this page with the
template we choose or do we want to add this
template as a new page. Let's try the second option by pressing the ad as
a new page button, and this is the result. This is the first page. This is the second page. Now if we create a new page by pressing this ad page button, if reactive page is still empty, like this, when we choose
a template canvas will immediately apply it without displaying any question
or confirmation. Those are the four ways
that you can go about creating designs by using
ready made design templates.
7. Magic Design: In recent years, AI, or artificial
intelligence technology has developed very rapidly. This also has an impact
on canvas development. Since the 2023 release, Canva has provided many features
utilizing AI technology. We will discuss
the AI features of Va more in depth in
a dedicated chapter. For now, we will focus
on one AI feature that can help us start a new design project
called Magic Design. In short, magic design works by selecting
a design template, as well as making
initial changes to the template based on the
image file we upload, let's say it in action. The first step is to upload
our own photo or image file. For this step, you can do it via the Upload button
on the main page, or you can also press Create a Design button and then
select Import File. I have prepared a photo of some salad or vegetables
on the plate. This photo is free. I downloaded it from one of
the stock photos websites. Feel free to use
your own image file. After selecting the file, click the open button. Ken Va will then
upload the image. Once it is done,
Ken Va will give us two options used in a new
design or add to a template. Now this is important for you to remember to use the
magic design feature. You need to click on a second
option, add to a template. Our image is now
analyzed by the AI. After the process, Ken Va
provides a selection of design templates that its AI
system consider suitable. As you can see, the
AI feature in Kva was able to recognize the photo
I uploaded as a food photo. More specifically, food
in the healthy category. Yes, it is not 100% profit. For example, this template considers our slate
photo as noodles, perhaps because it does look
like noodles at a glance. But this is not a big problem, as we can further edit the text or redesign
to suit our needs. Before we discuss
editing the template, there are a few things
I want to show you. First, curly canva, features various types
of design templates. What if we only need
to create a poster? Well, we can filter the
template list from here, then go to the marketing
category and then strike poster. This now only shows poster type design templates
and hides the others. You can see that I feature can even suggest the word salad
in this design template. Now if you already know what you want to
write for the title, just click on this
headline dropdown list and type in the title you want. Just for example, I am
typing in Mini Salad. Then press the Add
to Results button. Now all the headlines in the design templates
have changed to timid. You can also experiment
with the color combination. Just click on this
style dropdown list. Let's say we want to
try this color palate. Then click the Results button. At this point, if you want to choose a design template,
just click on it. Then press the customized
template button. Can va we'll create a
new design project. Again, what we did
is just uploading a photo and letting the magic design AI
to do dress for us. From here, you can freely
customize the design As always, we can start by
naming the project. I'll just name this
one after the title, which is T Mini Set.
8. Finding and opening projects: In this lesson video, we will learn how
to find and open design projects that we
have previously created. To see all our projects from
the front page of Canva, in many on the left, we can click on
the link that says Projects on Projects page. We will see the last few
projects we have worked on. This includes the image files that we have
uploaded previously. If you want to see a
more specific list, for example only the
design projects, you can click the Design Stab. If you only want to
see image files, you can click the Image Stab. We will discuss the folders features in the
next lesson video. Now let's go back
to the design step. As you can see at the moment, I only have four
design projects, so it's not too difficult to find a project that
I want to add it. But imagine that we've
been using Canva for years and we've been very
productive during that time. We may have hundreds
of design projects, and so the list becomes too
long to scroll manually. For this condition,
Canva provides various project management features
that can be very useful. The first one is
the search feature. We have already
discussed this feature, but before we used it to search for templates to
create a new design. Now we want to use
the projects mode, as we only want to
find our own projects. For example, we remember that we designed a tie sell poster. Let's say we forget
the full name, but we are sure that it
has the word tie in it. So we can just
type in tie again. You need to make sure
that the search mode is on projects and
not on templates. Canva will display projects that have blue word tie in them. If we click on a
Project Tam nail, this will open a
project in a new tab. For now, we want to focus on a project
management feature. So let's just close this project by pressing
the symbol on the tab. The next feature is filters, which are these three pull
um lists on the top left. We can filter the list of projects by the person
who created them. We can also filter the list
by the type of design. For example, we only want to show the whiteboard
design type. To go back to seeing
all types of designs, we can select the all
categories option. Or we can press the
clear all button to clear all the active filters. Let's go back to the
design step first. Then we can also
use the time when the project was modified
as the filter parameter. For example, we only want
to display projects from yesterday or only the
last 30 days, and so on. Next is the sorting feature. In addition to
displaying projects based on the most
relevant tubules search, we can also display the list of projects based on their name, that is either alphabetically forward or
alphabetically backward, or by the creation time
from old to newest, or the reverse from
newest to old. Then the last feature is for changing the display
mode of the list. You can select the grid mode. This is useful if you want to preview the projects
in larger thumbnails. Alternatively, you can
use the list mode. This mode can provide
additional information such as who created the project and when the project was edited. Furthermore, in this list mode, you can see a dotted icon on the right side
of the project. These dotted icons
can be used to access properties and various commands
related to the project. If you are in a grid mode, you can still access
the dotted icons by hovering your mouse over
the project tum nail. If you click on this
dotted icon at the top, you can change the project name. You can also duplicate it, move it down, load
it, and so on. For now, let's focus on
the move to trash command. When you click this command, the current project
will be deleted or rather canva moves the
project to the trash folder. If you change your mind and
want to restore the project, you can access the trash
folder by pressing the trash button in left
menu at the bottom, you can see that the project we deleted earlier is still here. If you want to
restore this file, simply click on the dotted icon and select the restore command. But if you are sure you
don't need it anymore, you can permanently delete
it with this command. But to save you time, you actually don't
need to manually delete the content
in a trash folder. Can va automatically
deletes content in a trash folder when it is
more than 30 days old. For now, I am taking this project back out
of the trash folder. Now if I go back to projects, the Instagram 01 project
is back on the list again. All right, in the next video, we will discuss the
folders feature.
9. Working with folders: In this video, we will
discuss the folders feature. Just as we manage
files on our computer, we can manage projects
and files in Canvas, utilizing folders to
create a new folder. You can click on this
Create Folder button. But remember that
this button only appears if you have not
yet created a folder. If you already created a folder, you can press the add new
button on Upright dense like folder can display
a window in this field, you can give your
new folder a name. For example, I'm naming
this social media. Then if you're
working with a team, you can specify who can access the folder
through this field. We will discuss the theme
feature in another chapter. For now, just click Continue. Now we have a new folder
called social media. To get in and out of a folder, you can use the menu
on the left side bar. Just click on the folders
name to see its contents. Since this is a new
folder, it is still empty. To go back to the main folder, you can click on
All Projects Link. Another method to go
inside a folder is to click directly on its
stamina to go back out. Apart from the menu on the left, you can also utilize
the bread crumbs above. For example, you can click Projects to go back to
the main projects folder. All right, if you
open the folder step, it turns out that Canva has provided us with
these three folders. You should note that these
are special folders, you cannot move them
or delete them. Like normal folders, the pros folder will contain various design elements that
you process from Canva. Then the uploads folder will
contain your uploaded files. Finally, this Start folder is a special folder
that will display projects from all
your fat folders. Just for example,
if you want to make the social media fare folder, click on the dot icon and then select Star folder in this case. Or the projects inside the social media folder
will also appear. When you open the
start folder to return a folder to a normal
or non favorite status, you can click on the dotted icon again and then star folder. At this point, you
might be wondering, how do we move projects
or files into a folder? There are several
ways to do this. If you are in the tab, simply click right the
project you want to move, then drop it on top of
a folder stem nail. We can check by going
into the folder, and sure enough we can find a
project inside this folder. Besides click dragging
in the main area, we can also click Drag
to the folder name, left side bar or menu. For example, I can click Dirk this toy store project to
the social media folder. Now in the social media folder, there are two design projects. Besides the click drag method, you can also move projects by
utilizing the dotted icon. For example, I can click on the dotted icon of this
Select Poster project, then click Move
to Folder button. Then select the
social media folder. Then choose move to Folder. To move a project out of a folder or to domain
all projects folder, you can use the
dotted icon again. Move to folder, then all, then choose your projects. Then press move
to folder button. Or you can do this
faster by click, dragging it directly to the all projects in
the left side bar. Just like the local
folders on our computers, folders in canvas can also be nested and can
be moved around. If you are in a folder like
this creating new folder, we make the new folder or a folder nested
inside another folder. For example, if I click
the At new button again, then choose folder name this Facebook, then
click Continue. You can see that now
the Facebook folder we just created is located inside the social media folder to move a folder to
another location. The technique is similar
to how we move content. You can use the
dotted icon method. That is by selecting the
move to folder command, or you can click Drag directly to the target folder
you want to move to. One important thing
you need to know in terms of moving folders around in a version of Canva that I am using at
the time of recording, which is in the middle of 2023, there is a stripe bug related to the display of the folder
in the left side bar. If we click the Facebook folder to all projects, in theory, the Facebook folder
is now outside or at the same level as
the social media folder. However, in the left side bar, the folder structure is
not immediately updated. Don't worry, this is
not a serious bug. In shallow, your files
or projects are safe. If this happens to you and you are using the web
version of Canva, just refresh the page. If you are using the
desktop app version of Canva like I do, you can close the app first
and then reopen it again. Usually the folder structure on the left side bar
will get updated. Hopefully, this bug
has been fixed in the version of Cava
you're currently using. The last thing I want to discuss is how to delete a folder. For this, you can use
the dotted icon in the folder, then select Delete. If the folder you want to delete contains
files or content, Canva will display
a warning window. Are we sure we want to
delete this folder? As that also means deleting
all the contents inside it. We can press close to cancel if what we're
deleting is an empty folder, for example, this
Facebook folder, then Canva immediately deletes it without giving any warning. Now, unlike other
content empty folders that we delete do
not go to the trash. They will be permanently
deleted by Canva.
10. Publishing projects: In this lesson video, we are going to discuss
some of the methods to export or publish the
designs we create in Canva. The first step to doing this is we need to
open the project. First, make sure we are in working space like this and not on the home screen. Then you can press the Share button on
the top right corner. At the top of the Share menu, you will see the option to share your work with your
colleagues or team. We will discuss the
collaboration feature in Canva in Leader in
its own chapter. For now, let's focus on the bottom part
of the share menu. Here you can see for
options, download, Share on social print, your design and more. Let's go through these
options one by one. The option you will
probably use the most is download essentially. With this option, you
can download the designs you create in Canva to
your computer locally. If we click on this
pulldown list, there are many options
that you can use. The option you chose
in the pulldown list above will determine the
parameters displayed below it. If you want to download your
design as an image file, there are three options
to choose from. You can download it in Pe, PNG, or Fiji format. Generally, what
you want to use is the PNG format because PNG
supports transparency, whereas P does not. However, if you notice the features to just
image parameters such as transparency can
only be used by paid users for your information, as Fiji is a vector
image format. With this format,
you can further edit the image in vector
software such as Rub, Illustrator, Coral Row,
or Scape and so on. Unfortunately, this feature also only applies to paid users. Besides using image
file formats, you can also download your
projects in PDF format. Canva provides two options for PDF If you don't intend
to print it on paper, such as just sending it via e mail or shared it
on your website, then you should use the
PDF standard option. However, if you intend
to print it on paper, then the PDF print
is a better option. Finally, if your project is
a video or has animation, you can download it as an MP
four or as a GF file P four. Video files are more
suitable if your video is long audio or you want
to edit it further. In video editing
software such as by Premiere Pro Final Cut, the fancy resolve and so on. But if your video is
short, contains no sound, and you want to embed
it on a web page, then the format is more
suitable for you to use. For now, let's return to the main Share menu By
pressing this arrow button. In addition to downloading
your design as a file, Canva can also help
you directly publish your design to various
other platforms or web applications. For example, you can
publish it to social media in cloud storage service or use it for e mail
marketing and so on. Indeed, the option you can
see by default is share On. If you click this,
you can see a list of various popular social
media such as Instagram, Facebook, Twitter and so on. But if you go back, then click on the
More button below, you can see that Canva allows us to connect to a lot
more online services. You can access Google
Drive, Dropbox, One Drive. Then below we can see
Whatsapp and Mail Chimp. There are also online
applications for an emission, such as Po tune and so on. Now it is important to
remember that in order to take advantage of the sharing feature to these various
online applications. First, you must already have an account in those
online applications. Then you need to set up
the connection from Canva, which basically you need to login into the app
through Canva. Once your account is verified, you can then utilize the
sharing or published feature. It will be too long to connect
all these apps one by one. Feel free to experiment and
try it out for yourself. If we go back to the
main share menu, you will see the print
your design option. Even above, there is now
a print posters button. Now you need to know that
the definition of print here is not a feature to connect to your home
or office printers. If you want to print
on your own printer, then you need to download
the project first as a file through download option
as we discussed earlier. All right, what does
Canva mean by print here? The definition of print
is a print on de service. Essentially, we can order
the designs we create on Canva printed products that are delivered directly
to our address. For example, in
the form of books, flyers, leather
heads, ca***dars, business cards, and so on. Of course, this
can save us time, especially if we are too busy, to go to the print shop ourself. Since its introduction in 2017, this printing service
has only been available in a few countries
then since 2019. This service also
covers Southeast Asia, one of which is
Indonesia, where I live. However, you should note that at the time I
recorded this video, which was in mid 2023, the printing process can only be done in these
eight countries. Australia, Brazil,
Canada, India, Japan, Mexico, New
Zealand, and the US. Orders from outside of
these eight countries, for example, from Indonesia, will be made in the
nearest country, and the prints will be shipped via
international shipping. In terms of pricing, it is important to factor in the shipping costs as
well if you are ordering this print surface
from countries outside of the eight
countries mentioned above.
11. Adding design elements: Starting from this video
and the next few videos, we will discuss the various
editing features in Canva. For this video, we will discuss how to adjust
the background, then learn how to add
new design elements, and then learn how to
perform transformations. We will start with
a blank new design. If you frequently create
content on Youtube, you often need fresh designs for video cover or thumbnail. Thankfully, Canva
already provides a size three set
for this purpose. If you click on the Create
a Design button and then type in in the
search box Youtube tumi, or simply thumb,
you can see that the standard Youtube
tummil size is 12 pixels by 720 pixels. Click the design preset to start a project with that size. Let's give this project a name. I usually put the code Y
T in front of the name. If the project is for Youtube,
tumailnIusuallyutjectde, for example, 020 span, followed by the video name, how to b***d colors, creta. Then press Enter or just click anywhere outside
the text field. This is how I usually
name my projects. Your free to use zero naming system according to you
or your team's needs. All right. The most basic design
element is the background. To select the
background element, you can hover the mouse in the center area until you see the high light
surrounding the whole page. If you click on it, the background element
will be selected. You will see this rainbow
colored icon on the top left. If you hover your
mouse on this icon, you can tell that this icon
is for setting the color. So from this example, we start to understand that every time we select
an object or element, the parameters of that element
will be shown at the top. Depending on the
element we select, sometimes we can see a lot of parameters appear
at the top bar. We will discuss this
position button later. For now, let's click on
this background color icon. You can see that the
panel on the left changes to a panel where we can
set the background color. To return this panel to
its previous condition, you can click on a
background color icon again, or you can also click
on one of the tabs on the left or just click anywhere
outside the design area. Let's click on a
background object and then open a
background color panel. Again, as you can see, Canva provides two options
for background color. We can use a solid color
or a gradient color. We can also insert an
image as the background, but we'll get to that
in another video. Now let's say we like this black too, blue
gradient color. But we still want
to tweak it a bit. One way to do that is to
click outside to confirm. Then click again to select it and reopen the
background color panel. If you notice there is now
a gradient box at the top. We can click on this box to
adjust the color further. For example, we want to make the gradient colors from black to color that is close to San. Just click on this
blue color box and change the color of bit
to the direction we want. We can also add more colors to the gradient by pressing
this plus button if we want. We can also change
the color again, for example, to green and so on. We don't need this
color for now, let's just remove
it by clicking on the X button in the
top right corner. Next for the orientation, or the direction
of the gradient, I think I like this
middle one better. All right, now let's say we want to add a new
graphic element to our design. For this, we can click
on the element tab icon. You can see that Canva provides different types of
design elements. For convenience,
all these elements have been categorized
according to their type. We will cover all these
categories gradually. For now, we want to focus on
the lines shapes category. You can browse by pressing
the right or left arrow keys. But if you want to see all the design elements
available from this category, you need to press the CO button. Right now we are in the
lines shapes category. You can press this left
arrow icon to go back out. But for now, let's assume we
want to add a circle shape. For this, the shape directly
into the design area, or you can just click
and release it. With this method,
the element will be placed right in the
center of the page. If you want to duplicate
a design element, you can click on the element and then click on this plus icon. If you want to delete it, you can click on
this trash can icon. All right, before we discuss the various
parameters above, let's first discuss how we can perform transformation
on design elements. To move an object, you
can simply click drag the object and then release it at where
you want it to be. Canva helps us to center the object horizontally,
vertically, using guidelines and snapping effect if we have multiple
objects on the page. Canva can also help us to snap the active object to the
boundaries of other objects. If you want to move an object straight vertically or
straight horizontally, you need to hold
down the shift key while moving the object. The object will snap
vertically or horizontally, depending on which is closest to the most colossal location
to scale uniformly. You can use any of
the control points at the corners if you
want to scale, but non uniformly, you can click drag on one of the control
boxes on the sides. Then when scaling an object, you can make use of the
key with this voll. Use the center point of the object as the center
of the scale operation. If we release the alky, again, the center point of the scale, we'll return to the point
opposite to the one we drag. Finally, we can rotate
an object by click, dragging on a
circular arrow icon. All right, since this video
is already quite long, we will continue the
lesson in the next video.
12. Shape object parameters: We will continue the lesson
from the previous video. Now we will focus on the
parameters of shaped objects. If we select a shaped object, you will see a button that
says Shape at the top left. If we click this button, we can change the shape of the
object into another shape. For example, a square or a star, an arrow, a heart, and so on. If we click the circle again, it will return to
a perfect circle. Next to the shaped button, we can see two more buttons. This one is used to
change the field area, or the inner color of
the shaped object. If we click the button,
as you can see, the panel looks similar to the background color panel we discussed in the
previous video. We can choose a solid
color or a gradient color. We can adjust the current color and shift it to another color. Or perhaps convert
the color from solid type to the gradient
type from this panel. All right, next we can
use this button to adjust the outline of the shape or Canva
calls the border. Currently the active shaped
object does not display any outline because by default the option is
set to no border line. The border line will appear. If we change the option to a solid line or any other
types that have gap, we can adjust the thickness
of the line by dragging the cider or by tapping the
value directly in this field. Now to be able to use the
corner rounding parameter, we must use a shaped
object that has corners. We cannot apply corner
rounding to a circle shape because all of its sides are
already a perfect curve. Just for example, we can
create a rectangular shape. You can also use triangles or other shapes
that have corners. Now if we change the
corner rounding value, the corners in the shape will
become blunt or rounded. Now if a shaped object
has an active border, Va will display a new button
in a middle border color. Again, this button only appears when a border setting of
the object is active. As the name suggests, we use this button to set the
color off the border line. For example, we can
change the color to red or yellow and so on. At this point, you might
be wondering why does a shaped object
have for parameters and various other text
formatting parameters. Well, this is because in Canva, every shaped object can also
act as a container for text. Basically, if we double
click on a shaped object, we can type something
inside that shape. For example, I type
in Hello Canva. We can select the text. We can change the
phone type if we want, or change the size, and so on. So that is the reason why there are text parameters
on shaped objects. We will discuss text
formatting features in more depth in the next video.
13. Working with texts: In this lesson video, we are going to discuss creating text objects as well as
text formatting techniques. Previously, we discussed how to insert text into a
shaped object in Canva. Apart from creating it
inside a shaped object, we can also create a
standalone text object. But before we start, it might be a good idea to delete all these
shaped objects first. An easy way to delete
multiple objects is to click Drag first to
create a selection area. After the objects are selected, we can press the delete
key on the keyboard. All right, To create
a text object, we can open the text
category in the side panel. Can Va provides several
options for creating text. If you press the Add
a text box button, Canva will create a text object in the center of the page. Another way is to use
the three buttons here. For these three buttons. In addition to the click
and release method, you can also click direct the element to any
location on the page. What makes these three buttons
different from the one above is that they have default formatting
applied to them. This one is more suitable for heading because it is
large and also bolt, this is for subheading
because it is quite large. And this one is
more suitable for body text or long
paragraph text. But you need to remember
that no matter how we create the text object after
the object is created, we can still adjust
it as we like. If we scroll down further. Canva also provides
various design elements in the text
combination category. Basically, they are
a collection of several text objects
combined into a group. Sometimes apart
from text objects, you can also find other
design elements inside them. We will discuss these
text combinations later. For now, let's discuss
how to create and edit basic text objects in
terms of transformation. The way we transom
tax elements is similar to how we
transom shaped objects. We can click and
drag to move it. We can rotate it by click, dragging the circle arrow icon. We can also perform
a uniform scale by dragging one of the control
points in the corners. What is different from the
shaped objects is that we cannot perform non uniform
scale text objects. Instead of scaling, dragging the control boxes on the sides will only resize
the text container, but the form size of the text
inside it is not affected. If we select a text
element or object, Canva will display various
P for text formatting. For example, we can
change the phone type. As with other design elements, not all phones are
available for free. Phones that have a gold crown
symbol indicate that they are only accessible to Canva
or Canva for them, users. For now, I want to use a free
phone called Open Sense. I can just type the name here. Open here is the phone for
the other text parameters. I think they are all very common as you can find them
in other software. Let's just go through
them quickly. Here, we can change
the size of the text, then we can use this button
to adjust the color. Let's say we can make this text white for making the text bold. Making it italic or not, adding underline below the text. This is for controlling
letter cases. This is for text alignment. Whether we want to
make it left, justify, white, or center, then this button will turn
our text into a list. To make it clear, I'd better delete the other
text objects first. Besides the click
drugging method, you can also hold she and click to select multiple
objects in Canvas. Press the delete
button to delete them. Then we can add the text by double clicking
on the object. If the object has not been selected before,
just for example, I can change the text
to a list of days, Sunday, Monday, Tuesday. Then click outside. Then click again to
select the text object. All right, if we click this button can change the
text to a bulleted list. Click again to make it numbered list and click again to
make it back to normal. Next, we can set the spacing between letters with this
letter spacing slider. And we can control
the line spacing. This line spacing slider. Now if you want to format
only part of the text, say only the word Sunday, we can click first to enter
the text editing mode. This mode is marked by the
appearance of the text cursor, which is a blinking
vertical line chef pointer. We can move it with the
arrow keys on the keyboard. We can select text with a
direct click of our mouse. Or you can hold down the Hefkey and press the
arrow keys on the keyboard. In essence, the text
selection technique in Canva is similar to how we
select text in other software. When we have some text selected, any formatting changes we made above will only affect
the selected text. Now if you are in a text
editing mode like this, and then you want to move
the entire text object, you cannot use the
click drag method as before because that will
only select the text. What you need to do is
move the move cursor until it is on a border
or bounding box. You will see the cursor turned into a four
way arrow symbol. In this condition,
you can click to move the whole text element
to another location. In Canva, we can apply various visual effects
to text elements. That is basically the function
of the effect button. Canva divides text effects into two types, style and shape. By default, these two types
of effects are set to none, meaning none of the
effects are active. If we activate an effect, for example the live effect
or shadow and so on, the parameters of the selected effect will
appear below it. For the shadow effect, we can set the distance of the shadow with this
offset parameter. Then this is for the
direction of the shadow. This is to set how blurry
the shadow is and so on. It will be too time
consuming to go through all the parameters in
each effect one by one. Feel free to experiment with this style type
effects on your own. For now, I'll return the
effect to the non option. The second type of
text effect is shape. If we activate
this curve effect, we can make the text
curve or circular. The text will curve downwards if the curve
value is positive. And it will curve if the
curve value is negative. If the value is large
enough or small enough, the text will form
a perfect circle. The last two text formatting
features I want to cover are transparency
and copy style. If we want to make our
text object transparent, we can click this button, Then set the transparency
level with the slider. If the value is 100, it means that the text is solid or not transparent at all. 50 means it is semi transparent. If it is zero, it is
completely invisible. For now, let's set this to 70. The last feature is copy style. This feature is
used to duplicate the formatting of a text
object to another text object. To show you an example, I can create a new text object and then type in
some dummy text. For example, good
morning Jakarta. Okay, let's assume
we want to duplicate the style of this
text text First, make sure the text object we want to duplicate
is selected, Then click the
copy style button. If you notice now the most cursor changes to a
black roller brush symbol. In this condition, all we
need to do is click on a target text that we want to
apply or copy the style to. You can see that now
this text changes to follow the style or format
of the text next to it.
14. Working with photos: In this video, we will discuss various
techniques related to photos to add a photo element
to our design project. We can go to the elements step. You can see there is a
category called photos. As usual, we can press the CO button to view all the content from
the photos category. We can use the
search feature if we want because we are
still in a free plan. Let's pick a free photo, for example this one. Now to insert a photo
into a design project, you need to be careful if you insert it with the
click brack method and your mouse position
is on the edge of the background area mating that you want to use the
photo as the background. If this is what you want, simply release the
most button here. Now the photo is set
as the background. But if this is not
what you want, there are two things you can do. First, if it just happened, you can press the
undo button above. Second, if you cannot undo it, perhaps it is not a current event or you are
using a design template. You can change the
background type to a solid or gradient color, the same way we discussed
in the earlier lesson. That is, you first select
the background object, then click on the
background color button to open the panel
on the left side. From here, you can use a solid or gradient color to
replace the current photo. Now when we want to change
the background type to a color canvas extracted some dominant colors
from the photo, which we might want to use
as a background color. For now, I'll just
use the white color. Let's try to insert
the photo again, but this time not
as a background. To be safe, you can
just click once on a photo so that it is
placed in a center. Or if you want to use
the click drag method, just make sure your
maps cursor is not too close to the border of the
page or the background object. All right, in terms
of transformation, the technique is
basically the same as that of shape
and text objects. I don't think we
need to discuss it again in its video to save time. What we need to discuss
is the difference. That is, if we try to
do a uniform scale on a photo object by dragging the control boxes on the
sides instead of scaling, Env will only change
the size ratio. The consequence is that some of the photo areas
might get cut off or hidden when a photo
object is selected. We can see some buttons above
the button with letter. I will display information
related to the image file, such as the title or
name of the photo, the photographer or
artist who created it. Then license a list
of keywords or tags. You can make this photo
your favorite if you want, by giving it a photos that you give a start to will appear
in your start folder. You can also put this photo into a specific folder that you
have if you want and so on. Then using the flip menu, you can mirror the photo
horizontally or vertically. The one button that needs our attention is probably
the added photo button. If we click this button, you can see Va divides the added photo features into
three categories. Or tapes. They are effects just and crop. Let's take a look at
the crop tape first. As the name suggests, we can use the features in
this tape to perform cropping. There are many standards for aspect ratio provided by Canva. By default, when a free
form option is active, we can set the crop size ratio freely if features one
to one for example. Then the way to height ratio of the crop will always be
locked at one to one, even when we try to
adjust it manually. If features 16 by nine, then image size ratio will
be locked at 169 and so on. To change the position
of the image, we can click Rack the photo. To rotate the image, you can click and rack
this rotating arrow icon. Or you can also use this rider. If the image becomes enlarged, you can scale the image again by dragging the control
points in the corner. Now you can use
this auto button. Can we determine the
orientation of the image? Automatically, You can even use a Madan feature
called Smart Crop. If we press this, will
examine the photo carefully and then automatically rotate and crop the image. If you are satisfied with
the cropping condition, you can press done
below to apply it. If you want to abort it, just press the cancel button. Let's open the edited
photo panel again. Now we will focus on the Ja tab. Here we can make different
adjustments to the photo. For example, we can adjust
the color to make it warmer. Or make it cooler. We can set the brightness
contrast and so on. It will take too long to go through all of them one by one. You can try these parameters yourself to see their
effect on the image. If we scroll up again, there is a button called auto just the concept is similar to the previous
smart crop button. Basically can examine
the image file and then suggests the color
adjustment settings that it thinks are best. If you want to return all these color adjustment
settings to the fault, you can press these adjustments
button below. All right. The last one is Effects. At the top, In the 12 category, you can find various
features that utilize AI or artificial
intelligence. We will discuss these features later in a dedicated chapter. For now, let's take a look at the other features
in effects panel. In the filter section, we can find various
color adjustments. But in the form of resets, we can press L to see them all. Va divides filters in
the seal subcategories. If we select a filter, we can adjust its intensity using the strider that
appears below it. For now, let's go back outside and use the non
option to disable the filter. Next we want to see
the effects category. The first effect is shadows. We can see the options
apart from the non option. These three options are actually presets of the same
effect, the shadow effect. What makes them different
are the parameters. If you notice the parameters are similar to the text shadow
effect we discussed earlier, I don't think we need to
discuss it again in this video. You can try it
yourself if you want. If you don't want
to use this effect, don't forget to return
the option to non. Let's go back to the
edit photo main page. The second effect is to focus. This effect is useful
when we want to make certain parts of image look sharp and make
the rest blurry. It is as if we are
using a camera with a low F number or what is commonly known as
shallow depth of field. You can see how advanced this effect really
is when you drag the focus position slider canva seems to know the depth of
the objects inside the photo. The purple color that appears
indicates the area that we want to focus on or that
we want to make look sharp. The rest we look blurry. With the level of
blur that we can set with doubler
intensity slider above, you don't want this effect. Don't forget to set this low
intensity value to zero. Next is the blur effect. This will basically make
our entire image blurry. Make sure you set this to zero also if you don't
want to use it. The last one is the
duotone effect, as the name suggests, it will make our image
consists of two colors, only dark color
and a light color. You can choose from
the presets provided here or you can also set
the colors manually. If you prefer, you can use the
intensity slider to adjust the strength of
the effect against the original color,
just like before. If you don't want
to use this effect, don't forget to select
the non option above.
15. Working with graphics: In this video, we
will learn how to work with graphics
type design elements. You can see the
category by opening the elements tab and then opening the graphics
subcategory. At this point, you
might be wondering what is the difference
between photos and graphics? In general, photos are images taken using a
camera from the Re world, Whereas graphics is a type of image that is created
or drawn from scratch. One important thing
you need to know is that unlike the shaped category, which are all vector types and the photos category which is all Raster Kva
graphics type elements can either be roster
or they can be vector. Different graphic
types, we'll have different parameters that
we can use to control them. Therefore, before we continue, it is important
for us to discuss the differences between
raster and vector. First, in the world
of computer graphics, we can divide images into two
types, Raster and Vector. Roster is the most
common type of image, or the one we see most
often on the web or screen. I am currently using Photoshop to open a raster image file. If we zoom out at this level, the image looks
smooth or seamless. But when we keep zooming in, we will start to
realize that this image is actually made up
of minimal squares, commonly referred to as pixels. In essence, raster
image is an image formed by lots of small
squares or pixels. The quality of Raster
image is directly proportional to the number
of pixels used to define it. Examples of commonly used
raster image formats are PNG, Jpeg. Now there is a new up and
coming roster file format called web P. Generally, raster images are more suitable for storing photos
or complex images. Now let's look at the
second type vector. I am currently using
a software called Ruby Illustrator to open
a vector image file. If I zoom in as far as possible, as you notice the image does not turn jagged or pix elated. This is because
vector images are not defined or formed by
a bunch of pixels. Instead, they are defined by mathematical formulas or various such as the coordinates
of the points, line or curve functions, the color inside the area formed by the lines and
points, et cetera. An example of a vector
file format is SG. Besides Pg, there are many
other vector file formats, but they are mostly proprietary or tied to the software
that created them. For example, I for Lustra, CDR for Choral Draw, DWG for Autocad,
and many others. Generally, vector formats
are more suitable for storing images that
contain only a few colors, such as logos, icons, fonts, and so on. All right, let's go back to Canva to add a graphic element
to our design project. The method is no different
from other design elements. Likewise, in terms of
transformation techniques, we can safely skip
discussing these topics. What we need to discuss
now are the parameters. For example, if we select this graphic object and look at the parameters
at the top bar, it turns out that all the
parameters displayed are no different from the photo element that we discussed
in less lesson. This is because the currently active graphic is Raster type. But if we try to
direct this graphic, look at the top
bar, the parameters displayed are
slightly different. This is because the active graphic element
is a vector type. As you can see, it also
has an information button, a flip button similar
to Raster image. Then there is also
the Crop button whose parameters are mostly similar to that of roster type. Although here there is
no smug crop feature. Then if we click on the added image button can provide some
filters and effects, but not as many as we saw
earlier for raster images. The advantage of vector images is that we can edit the
color of each shape. Just for example, I can change the color of
this one to pink, then this one to
purple, and so on.
16. Using your own images: Kva provides tons of various design elements
as we know it. Using these elements can
certainly help us to save time. However, there are times when we also need to use our
own image files. There are at least four
scenarios where you want to upload your own
image files to Kva. The first scenario is using the image file as the input
for the magic design feature. We have already discussed the magic design feature in depth in the
previous chapter. The second scenario is to use the image file as a design element in
your existing project. The third scenario, to utilize Canva as an image
editor and less, one is to use your own image as a reference or a size template to start a new design project. Let's look at each of these
scenarios one by one, except for the first one, because we've already
covered design in the previous chapter to use your own image files
as design elements. First, you need to upload them. If you are in the project
work space like this, you can open the upload step. Here we can see the image
files we uploaded earlier. We can also see that Canva categorized the files
into three types. Images, videos, an
audio, not only images. You can also upload
videos and audio. To upload a new file, you can press this button, then open the folder where
the file is located, Select the file and press open. Or you can click drag the file directly from the file
browser to this area. For example, I can select
two image files at once, then drag them both to
the pad area on the left. Once they are uploaded, you can use these
images just as you both use the photos
or graphics elements. There are times when we have
photos that look too dark, too bright, or maybe we want to apply certain filters to make
them look more attractive. We can utilize Canva
for this purpose. Basically, we upload
image to Canva, then we add the image, then we download it
back to our computer. To do this, we can go
back to the main page, then create a design button, and then press this
button. Import file. Select the image file you want. For example, I am using this
image for your information. I created this digital painting using a free software
called Creta. This image is part of the final project in my
online course on Creta. You can check out this course
if you are interested. All right, under
these conditions, we already know that this button reactivate the magic
design feature. We will discuss the function
of this button in a moment. For now, let's focus
on a hidden button on bottom life which says
edited photo Vol. Open the screen to edit image. We've discussed these
features before, but to an element
inside a project. Let's assume we want to adjust the color by
going to the adjust tab. Right now, the image has an
afternoon lighting mode. We want to make it look
like it is morning. We can k the temperature slider and also the tint slider
towards the left, so we have more coal or
blue colors in the image. You can also lower the
brightness value if you want. After making some changes, we often need to compare it
with the original image. For this, you can press and hold the compared
button above. When we press the
compared button, the original image
will be displayed. From here, you are free to add other effect or perhaps
crop the image if you wish. When you are done, you can
download the file back to your computer by pressing the Sef button, then
select download. Or if you want Canva
to save the image first you can press the
Sef to Canva button. If you do this inside
the uploads folder, you will see two images, the original image and
the edited version. Canva usually adds the
word edited behind the name to make it easier for us to
differentiate the two. The last scenario we want to discuss is using our own image as the basis or template for a new design project To do this. When we upload our image file, if you remember there is a purple button that says
use in a new design. You can press that button. Or if the image is already
in the uploads folder, just click on the image again to reopen the edited
photo window. From here you can press
the use in design button. Both buttons have
the same function. You should know
that cobots image has a non standard size of 11, 41 by 1080 pixels. With this technique,
we can create a new design project with a custom size based
on the image we use. From here, you are free to add other design elements into
the project as needed.
17. Group and Frame: In this video, we are going to discuss how to group and
ungroup objects in Canva, and then we will discuss a special element
type called frame. We have discussed the
text element before, but we haven't touched on the text types that
are combinations. If we drag one of these text combinations
into the canvas, you can see a button
that says ungroup. This button indicates that the object we currently
select is a group object. In other words, it is a combination of sufle
objects or elements. In a group condition, we can still select
each of the elements. The parameters associated with the element still be displayed
by canvas at the top. For example, if the element
with select is text, we can ****** its
phone size and so on. What makes the group
object unique is that all transformations will be applied to the
entire group object, not individually
on its elements. If we click drag, the
whole group will move. Likewise, if we scale or rotate, the entire group object will be affected to break up a group object and free all
the elements inside it. We can press this Group button. Now we can transform these
objects individually. You want to create a
group object first you need to select all the elements that you want to group. You can use the
click Brack method to create a selection area. All objects in the selection
area will get selected. You can also use another
method of selection, such as holding the schiefke and just clicking on each object
that you want to select. You need to remember that
this shift method is a tog. This means that if you hold on shelf and click on
a selective object, this will make the object
selective instead. This shift click
selection technique can be useful for selecting
objects in more detail. After we have some
objects selected, can vol display a button
coup if we cricket. The objects are now
joined into a group, that is the group feature in Va. Another method of combining two design objects
is by using a frame. Basically frames are
special design elements in Va that we can
use to do crapping, but with a unique shape. This feature is also known
as mask or clipping mask. On other graphic
software with frames, we can mask image elements with photos or graphics
provided that the graphics we use are of roster
type Va does not allow us to frame vector
objects, at least not yet. In a version where I recorded
this lesson made 2023. We can also use the frame
object to frame of video. We will discuss an emission and video later in its own chapter. To create a frame object, you need to open
the Elements tab, Then scroll down until you
see the frames category. You can press the
CO button to see all the frames provided by
Canva. Just for example. Let's try to make
one that looks like a flower next to insert
an image into the frame. The method is the
same as when we insert an image into
the background object. That is, we need to
click Greg the image, and release it when it
is in a frame area. You can do this using
an existing image in your design or a new image that you drag from the
panel on the left. You can see that now the image seems to be
inside the frame object. In this condition, if we
perform a transformation, both the frame object
and rowing object will move or change together as
if they are a single object. If we look at the
top at first glance, the parameters of
the frame object are similar to the image object
we discussed earlier, but there are some
unique parameters that need our attention. The first one is crop. If we open the
edited photo panel and then open the crop tab here, we can transform
the image object relative to the frame object. Because the frame object is now basically the crop
area for the image. If you like to changes, you can press the Ne button, But if you change your mind, you can press cancel next, similar to the
background object. You can also change
the contents of the frame area to a solid
color or a gradient color. But remember, if you do this, the current image inside the frame object
will be deleted. Again, the way this frame object works is similar to
the background object. Let me end with first, if what you want to do is separate the image
from the frame object, then you need to press
this more button. Then use the detached
image command. Now the frame object and the
image object are separated. Again, even without
any image inside it, you can still utilize
a frame object by giving it a solid
or gradient color.
18. Layout techniques: In this video, we will discuss various layout
techniques in Canva. As with other graphic
software design, objects in Canva can overlap. It is possible for
one object to cover or block other
objects for practice. I deliberately made
these for design objects close together and stacked
on top of each other. One of the chal***ges
in object lyout selecting objects that are
blocked by other objects, let's say we want to
select the solid photo, but because of its
position at the back, when we click on it, this text object is
selected instead. In this case, there are three approaches
that you can use. The first approach is to utilize the Pre
view or Hitctangle. The point is, before you
click to select an object, carefully hover the mouse cursor until you see the
Hitctangle on the object. Only then can you
click to select it. The second approach
is to cycle through the selection with the
help of the control key. To do this, when
the mouse cursor is over Sufro objects that
overlap like this, you can hold down the control
key and then keep clicking. Every time you click, select
the next deeper object at the mouse cursor location until the background
object is selected. If you click again
the selection, we look back to the
topmost object and so on. The third approach is to
utilize the layers feature. To access layers, you can click on the button
depths position, then activate the
layers step in. The spannel canva sorts
objects based on their depth. Objects that are at the bottom
are behind other objects, while objects that are on top are in front
of other objects. By selecting a layer, you automatically
select the object or the element provides two modes for displaying layers,
all and overlapping. Generally, you will want to use the all mode as this mode
displays all existing objects. In other words,
nothing is hidden. You can use the
overlapping mode when your design composition
is already too complex. And you need to select
only certain objects that overlap with other objects. Just for example, if I select this text layer or I
select this layer, the layer that shows the stripes image
doesn't seem to exist. This is because both
the text object V object do not intersect with
the stripes image object. Vice versa, if I select
the stripes image layer, it is as if the text and
V layers do not exist. But if I select the
background layer, all layers will be
visible because all of them intersect or overlap
with the background object. Like if I select the
select photo or layer, all the layers will be visible because they all intersect
with this layer, that is the overlapping mode. All right, I'm switching
back to the old mode for now to adjust the
depth of an object, There are at least three
ways we can do in Canva. The first is to use the layer feature to move an object from
one level to another. Just click Drag the Layer. For example, we can click Drag this stripes image layer until it is under the
slot photo layer. Keep in mind that
you can only move layers with a dot symbol
on the left side. The background layer is a special layer that
we cannot move around. That is why it doesn't show
the dots on its left side. Another type of layer we
cannot move is a locked layer. We will discuss layer or
object locking in a moment. The second method
to adjust the depth of objects is through
the arranged tab. Here you can see
several buttons. We can use the forward button to move the selected
object one level up. Pressing this button
several times will eventually put the object
in the topmost position. In contrast, the backward button is for lowering the
object one level down. If we keep pressing it, the object will eventually
be at the bottom, just above the
background object. Then the two front
button will make the active object jump
to the topmost position. And the two back button
will make it jump directly to the button position
apart from this panel. Another way or the third method to adjust the depth
of the object, it is by pressing the
data or the More button, or just right clicking
directly on the object. In the layer sub menu, you can find various range
commands we just discussed. You can also see the
corresponding keyboard shortcuts if you prefer to use them. Next, let's discuss how to line objects or
elements in Canva. If we select an object and open the position panel
in the arrange tab, you can see various commands
for aligning objects. If you only select one object, then the base or
the reference for object alignment is
the entire page. If we press left, the left side of
the object will be aligned with the left
border of the page. If we press, the center point of the object will be aligned with the center
line of the page. Likewise for right, and so on. I am sure you already
understand how it works. Now if we have two or
more objects selected, this line function
no longer uses the page area as its reference, but uses other selected
objects as the reference. If we press a line left, then the left object
will be the reference. If we press a line right, then the rightmost object
will be the reference. If we press the line center, then all objects will move to the average center point
of the selected objects. The same concept also
applies to the top, middle, and bottom lines. Now besides the position panel, you can also access the
various line commands from the More menu or from
the right click menu. Then open the line sub menu. The last thing I
want to cover is locking objects or
design elements. Sometimes we want to keep certain design elements
from accidental changes. For this, we can use the
lock command to access it. You can click or click on the More button,
then select Lock. Objects that are locked
cannot be moved or rotated, or Scaled Canva also hides its various parameters which
usually appear at the top. If you open the position
panel in the layer step, you cannot change the depth or the order of locked object. You can see that the
layer does not have a dotted symbol like the other layers
that are not locked. But for layer ordering, this doesn't really
matter because we can still adjust the depth
of the other layers by bragging them below or on top of the locked layer to
restore a locked object. So that we can edit it again, we can press the unlocked
icon above the object, or the unlock icon
in the top bar. Now this object is
back to normal. We can perform
transformation again. We can also see all its
parameters again at the top.
19. Duplicating objects: In this video, we will
discuss object duplication. There are at least
three methods we can use to duplicate
objects in Canvas. The first is with the
duplicate command, The second is with the
copy paste command. And the third is
by using the Alk. Let's discuss each
of these methods. The first is by using
the duplicate command. There are several alternatives
to access this command. When you select an object, you will see an icon with
plus symbol above the object. If you click on it, it
will duplicate the object. Let me delete this object first. Alternatively, you can wide and then select the
duplicate command, or you can also use it shortcut, which is control D, that
is the first method. The second method is
the copy command. For this, you need to make
sure the object is selected. You may also select multiple
objects if you want, then press control C to copy, followed by control V to paste. All right, let me
delete this again. To access the copy commands, you can also use the More
menu or the right click menu. At this point, you might be wondering if there is
already a duplicate command. We still need the
PN pace commands. The answer is the
duplicate command is limited to only one
page of the design. Whereas the PN pace
command can be used to duplicate objects between pages and even between
different projects. For example, I can write click on this object and s like copy, I can then create a
new page by pressing this plus button or
the page button below. When I am order a new page, I can press control two Pace, the design object
that I copied before. Now I haven't
covered this before. You can also start
a new project by pressing the plus
button in tabs area. But this only applies
if you're using the desktop version of Canva and other, a
browser version. Just for an example, I choose a random
project type and size. Then inside this new project, I can press control
V or right click. And the slight paste, you can see that the
design object that I copied has been transferred
to this project. That is why we still need
to copy and pet command, even though there is already
a duplicate command. Let me close this project first. The last technique to
duplicate an object is to hold down the out key
while moving the object. If I hold out and then move
this object to the right, automatically
duplicates the object. If you want to duplicate
and also move it straight, horizontally or vertically, you can combine this method
with the chief key method. What you need to pay attention to is the order of
the keystrokes. First, you hold
down the alky brek, the object in the
direction you want. This will duplicate it. Then without releasing the
mouse release the al hold down chef duplicate
object moves straight, horizontally or
vertically depending on which is closest to the
most cursor position. After that you can release
the Most button to confirm.
20. Editing PDF files with Canva: One of the most common questions
related to PDF files is, how do I edit a PDF file? Many people ask this
because they think that PDF files are like Microsoft Word files
or Rubi Foco files, which can be edited easily if they use the
correct software. The problem is PDF files are
not designed to be editable. It is designed as a digital
document in its final form. In other words, it is
supposed to be it only file. But that doesn't mean we cannot edit the contents
of PDO file at all. We can edit it by extracting
the data inside it, such as texts and images, and the reconstructing
layout of the elements. One online software that
can do this is Canva. There are three important
things you need to consider when
editing PDF files. First, not all publishers of the PDF file
allow you to do so. When you download PDF
file from the Internet, you need to pay attention to the user agreement
associated with the file. Secondly, you cannot
edit PDF files that are encrypted or
password protected. Third, the PDF file you want to edit still stores
the data in layers, or they are not flattened
into a single image layer. Only if the PDF file is saved
from these three things, can you edit it in Canva? To do this, you need to
upload the PDF file to Canva. We've discussed various
upload methods before. For example, from the Canva mean page we can go
to the project step. Then press the At New
button, then upload. Go to the folder
where the file is, select the file,
then press Open. After the upload
process is complete, the PDF file is automatically converted by Canva
into a design project. You can open it and edit the
various elements inside it, as we would normally edit
a design project in Canva. For your information, I created this PDF book using
a Illustrator. You can adjust the zoom level of document here and then
make changes as needed. You can also use
the Fit option to set the zoom level
automatically to fit the page. When you are done,
you can download the project back to
a PDF file again, pressing the Share button, then select the download option. Then select PDF standard. If you want to release it as a digital file or if
you intend to print it, you can select PDF Print. With this option can va will use the maximum
quality setting to compress the image data with a consequence of
larger file size.
21. YouTube thumbnail project: In this video, we will try to put all the
techniques we've learned before into practice to create a Youtube
Tamil design like this. Perhaps you don't need
to create tube tunel or maybe you are not really interested in creating
designs like this. However, I strongly recommend
that you do not skip this lesson as there are some new techniques and tips
that I will be discussing. Previously, we discussed how to create a background with a
gradient color like this. For this part, I don't
need to explain it again. Let's assume that
now we want to add a wall texture on top
of this gradient color. For this, we can open the
element stab photos category. We can click the
L link type wall in a search field Canva, we'll display tons
of wall images. You can choose the
one you like for now. We'll just choose a free image. For example, this
gray wall click bag it so that it goes
into the background area. Now you need to know that the gradient color still
exists beneath the wall photo. I want to make the wall
photo a bit transparent so that we can see some of the gradient colors underneath. For this, we can enable
the transparency feature. The closer the value is to zero, the more transparent
wall photo becomes, causing the gradient
color to become stronger. I think 40% is enough. After that, we also want to
make the wall photo darker. For this, we can open
the added photo panel, then go to the adjust step. Lower the temperature a bit
and also the brightness. But we increase
the contrast value so that the texture is stronger. I think this is enough. If you want, you can delete the image placed
in a background. One way to do that is by
pressing the trash icon. This will return the background
to its original color, which is a gradient color. Next, we will use the images we uploaded
to Canvas earlier. Go to the upload step. I have provided all the image
files for this exercise. Inside the project files, you are free to
use these files or you may also use your own
image files if you want. First, we can click
on these stripes image or click drag it
to the design page area. Scale the image so that the top and bottom borders
are not visible. Then position it so that it
is at the center of the page. Besides dragging with the mouse, you can make small changes
to the position of the selected object by pressing the arrow
keys on the keyboard. For example, I can press
the down arrow and up arrow keys to just the
position of the stripes image. Once it is done,
just to play safe, we can lock the image apart
from the right click menu. You can also lock the image by pressing the lock
icon in the top bar. Next, we want to insert
this vase image. We can just click it and
slide it to the left until the vase image is just slightly overlapping
the stripes image. Then we can duplicate this vase image by
holding out and ragging, then holding shift until
it's on the right side, slightly touching
the stripes image. Now for the one on
the right side, we don't want to use
this vase image. What we really want
to use is this image. I deliberately use the
duplicate method so that I can show you the
image replacement technique. That is, if we click drag a new roster image onto a
preexisting raster image, we can replace the old
image with the new one. It just so happens that these two vase images
are the same size ratio. We don't need to adjust
the crop settings, they are not the
same sized ratio. Then you might want to
adjust the crop settings. Next, I want to find an image of an arrow that will cross
from left to right. We can open the elements stab. Let first exit the
photo category and go to the graphics category. Then just type the word
arrow in a search box. Feel free to pick any
arrow image that you want. I'll use this one for now. Adjust the scale again, We're holding down the outkey. Then I want to change the color to make
it a bright green. And with stronger saturation, I've used the color before,
something like this. But let's say we haven't
used the color yet. We can click anywhere first. Then reopen the color panel. You can click here
to just the color, make it more towards the top right corner so that
the situation is stronger. Next, we want to add text. Go to the text tab, then just drag the
heading text preset. Then we type 12. Now if we are in the edit mode to exit to regular object mode, but still select
the text object, we can press cap, key ones on the keyboard. We can move this up a little. Hold out and rag it
down to duplicate it. Then double click it. Type methods with all appro
case letters press escape, hold out, and rag down to
duplicate the text again. For now, I am going to speed up the video because there are no new techniques
that I am using. Okay, we can edit
multiple texts at once by selecting all
the text objects. Then we can change
the color to white. Next, for the font I want to use Montserrat. We can click here. I've used this one before, which is why it appears above. But let's say we
haven't used it before. We can type the phone
name in the search field, just the first few letters. For example, mont here is
the font at the center. I want to create a
unique text object of the word b***ding. This is the keyword
text that I am targeting or the word
that many people search. That is why I want it to
stand out from the rest. We can use a font that looks
more like handwriting. First, we can press Escape, just to make sure the font will be applied to all letters. The we open the phone panel, press this X button to
clear the search field. Now if we click in this field, Canva will display the phone
categories underneath. Remember, if they
do not show up, click inside the search
field area first. With this classification,
we can easily search for phones
of a certain type. Let's say we want a brush type. Or in other words, once they look like they were
created with a brush. Here, Canva provides a
huge selection of phones. Generally, the free ones are web forms available on
Google Phone's website. For now, I will use a
phone called Yester. Then we can set the
transformation. I want it to be bigger and
also slightly rotated. We can first select the text at the top and rug it up a bit. For the color of
this b***ding text, we can use the green color that we used earlier for
the aero graphic. Next, we want to add black around the text to
make it easier to read open the effects panel and
select the effect outline. Change the color to black. Then set the thickness with
this thickness slider. I think this is
enough for the rest. I didn't use any new techniques, I only just the transformation of each of the text elements. I'm skipping the
video to save time. Here is the result.
As the final step, if you want to
download the design, you can press the Share button. Then select Download. Make sure you use the PNG
format for maximum quality. Then select the download
button below it.
22. The next step: Congratulations,
you have completed this course from
start to finish. You have learned a
lot in this course. But we have only touched a small part of
what Canva can do. As I mentioned in introduction, this course is the
first in a series. If you want to master even
more of canvas features, you should check out
the rest of the series. You can't pick any of these
courses that appeal to you, but I highly recommend that
you start with this course. Creating websites and working
with dogs with Canva. The curriculum mini
course is designed to be a continuation of the first
course you just completed. Also because it covers a lot of things that
will be useful to, not to prepare you
for the next courses. You can search for
the course yourself, a skill share, or just use this link I provided
on the screen. I hope this course
series can have positive impact in
your life and career. See you at the next one, Salk.
