1. Welcome to the Class: Have you ever observed
the sky carefully? If yes, you might have observed some beautiful color
combinations happening up there. Water colors is a
versatile medium in which you will find
unpredictable outputs. And I personally love
the vibrant colors. In this class, we are going to paint seven beautiful, bold, and beautiful skies using
the medium of watercolors. Also, it is going to be a seven days
watercolor challenge, which you can take one
by one every single day. At the end of the class, you'll
be having a collection of seven paintings
which is going to be of bold and beautiful skies. Everybody, myself,
Rutwick Patel, I'm a self taught
independent artist and an interior
designer by profession. You can find most of my artworks being displayed on Instagram. I go by the name Schrag Artisans as someone who's very much
passionate about teaching, my major focus is always
to create classes for beginners who are
trying to develop their skills on a regular basis. We're going to start by learning about all the art
supplies in detail, from the watercolor papers to the brushes that
we are going to use. I'll be giving you
all the details, No need to worry at
all in case you're missing out on any
particular art supply. You can go for any other
good alternative as well. We're going to learn
about the color palette that we're going to use
so that you can get an exact idea of the application of the color
onto the watercolor paper. The color palette will help
you a lot to understand watercolors and its
application in detail. Before starting with
the class projects, we are going to have a
beautiful practice session, which we are going
to learn about all the elements and how
to paint them in detail. The practice sheet will help you a lot to develop confidence. It will help you
a lot to develop your hand movement from painting the background to painting all the
different sell outs. The practice sheet
covers it all. It would be a nice warm up. Before starting with
all the class projects, we're going to learn how
you have to site tape your watercolor paper
that after painting. When we remove the masking tape, we get a beautiful white border. The first step is to create a beautiful abstract background
which is going to be a bold sky using a color
combination of two watercolors. Basically, it is going to be followed by a
beautiful sill out, which covers an
entire landscape. In all the seven paintings, there are going to be elements
like houses, mountains, boats, rock bodies,
and a beautiful sun. That basically creates
an nice contrast with the abstract background all over the class is absolutely
suited for beginners. Also, intermediate and advanced
level artists can try it. It's a seven days art challenge. In case you are new
to watercolors, the class is absolutely
suited for you. I'm very happy and
excited to share this class with all of
you without any delay. Grab your art supplies and join me in this
creative journey.
2. Art Supplies: Everybody. Now let
us learn about all the art supplies that you will need for this
particular class. No need to worry at
all in case you're missing out on any
particular art supply. You can go for any other
good alternative or you will find it very easily in any
nearby local art store. Let us start with the
first art supply, which is a simple masking tape. It's a paper tape basically, that we're going to apply
on all the four sides of the watercolor paper that at the end when we
remove the masking tape, we get a nice beautiful
white border. Then next up, I have five size watercolor
paper from Canson. And these are basically
300 GSM watercolor papers. A GSM basically means the
thickness of the paper. And you can observe
my practice sheet here in case you do
not want to use a, A five size watercolor paper. You can go for any other
practicing art journal, or a rough scrape
of paper as well. Then I have another
watercolor paper of size six on which we are going to
create the class projects. As you can observe right now, these are basically A six
size watercolor papers and 300 GSM. The reason we are using a 300 GSM watercolor paper is so that you can apply
heavy washes on it. Then I have a simple
pencil that we can use to do any rough sketching work if required in the
class project. Then let us talk about the
most important art supply, which is the brushes. For the entire class, you
will need only two brushes. One is a size two quill brush, another one is of size zero. In case you do not
have a quill brush, you can go for a
round brush as well. But a quill brush will give you a nice application of watercolors onto the
watercolor paper. Then next up, I have black
and white watercolor tubs. I was missing out on
watercolor tubes, That's why I'm using
watercolor tubs. Now, you will be surprised that for all the
seven class predicts, we're going to use
only two colors. Which are basically
purple and bald blue. Using only these two colors, we are going to create
a nice combination of bold and beautiful skies. Then next up, I have a
simple color palette. You can already observe the
colors splattering around. Just try to have a
color palette in which you can take
multiple colors together and you have a nice
space for mixing them up. The next up I have a simple tissue paper
which will be really helpful to remove axis amount of water or color in your brush. Then we have a simple
glass container in which we are going to
hold some clear water. It will help us a lot to clean the brushes
whenever needed. Then comes the last art supply, which is not at all
compulsory to have, But in case you have it, it is really good if you use it. It's a simple wooden board that you can observe right here. In case you're not
having a wooden board, you can use a
writing pad as well. This will help you a lot to move your painting in directions
so that you can get a nice hand movement on
this particular board. We are going to place
the watercolor paper and the masking tape. These are all the
art supplies that you will need for this
particular class. No need to worry at
all in case you're missing out on any
particular art supply. You can go for any other
good alternative or you'll find it very easily in any
nearby local art store. Now let us move
towards the next part.
3. Color Palette: Everybody, before we start
with the class projects, let us understand
the color palette in detail so that you can get an exact idea of
how we are going to paint a beautiful, bold sky. If you observe all the
seven paintings carefully, you will observe that we have a beautiful abstract background. Here, I have a simple sketchbook
with all the labelings of the colors and
the combinations that we are going to create. In case you do not have a practicing journal
or a sketchbook, you can use a rough
scrape of paper as well. Apart from black
and white color, we're going to use
only two watercolors, which is going to be
purple and bal blue. In case you want to select a
different color combination, that is absolutely fine. You're free to
experiment and explore. Now in this particular
sketchbook, if you observe carefully, I have labeled the purple color. Now to know its exact
saturation of the color, I'll be using my quill
brush of size zero. And we're going to
take the darkest tone, which is the exact
shade of the color that we take out from
the potter color tube. Just take a little
bit of water and make a good consistency of
water and color together. Apply a simple
patch of the color. This is the exact
shade of the color. Now, in order to decrease
the saturation of the color, you have to slowly
add a little bit of water to have less
amount of color. You will observe
that the saturation of the color will
slowly decrease. Right now, you can
observe the way I'm adding a little bit
of water slowly, the saturation of
the color is getting decreased from the
first purple color. You can compare it with the last patch that
we have applied. Similarly, we are going
to use the same steps and we're going to learn
about cobal blue as well. Just apply the darkest
shade of cobal blue, making a good composition of
water and color together. And slowly add a little bit
of water into your brush, and you will observe the
decrease in the saturation. Now you must be wondering why we are doing this
particular step. This will help you to understand the application of
the water color onto the watercolor paper. Right now, the colors are wet. Once it dries, the saturation of the color will
definitely decrease. This will help you a lot to understand the color
palette in detail. Now, if you observe the
first color combination, I have taken some purple
and then cobalblue, it's a combination of
purple and cobalblue. Similarly, you can create
another combination of cobal, blue and purple together having
a difference in sequence. Now, if you want to use both the colors using
black together, you can do that as well. Right now, I have applied
a nice patch of black. And you can use
cobalblue together. You can also use purple. There are a lot of possibilities
to create a lot of combination of colors together
to paint some bold skies. Now in the bottom portion, I'll show you how the saturation of the color
decreases in one go. It's a simple stroke
you can observe. I have started from
the left hand side, slowly moved towards
the right hand side. You can see that the
first portion in the left hand side is very darker than the portion
in the right hand side. This is a simple stroke
that we applied in one go. Similarly, I'll be
showing you that in both the colors
purple and bal blue. In case you find that your color is finished from
the color palette, you can take a little
bit of color in the color palette from
the watercolor tube. And then you can make a good
composition of color and water together and
apply a single stroke. As you can observe,
you can observe the movement of my
quill brush carefully. You can observe that the
saturation of the color in the left hand side is very
much then the right hand side. Similarly, I'll be applying another patch for
Cabal blue as well. Now once we are done with
all the three patches, I have added the labelings. You can observe the
color palette carefully. This will help you
a lot to understand the color application on
the watercolor paper. It is not at all necessary or compulsory for you to
select the same colors. You can go for any
other good alternative. I hope that you understood
the color palette. Now let us move
towards the next part.
4. Lets Practice the Elements: Everybody, before we start with all the seven
class projects, let us practice all the elements and how to paint them in detail. Right now, you can observe all the seven class projects having a beautiful abstract
watercolor background with all the different
kinds of sill outs. No need to worry at all. All the elements are very
easy and simple to create. We're going to learn about
all the elements one by one. Here on my desk, you can observe a watercolor paper of size five. Here I have my masking tape. We are basically going to
learn about the background. There are going to be
two different types of background that we
are going to create. One is going to be
a background having a sky area and a water body. Another one is going to
be a complete sky area. That's why I'm dividing my watercolor paper into
two different parts. It's a very simple
and easy step. You just have to use
the masking tape. Apply it in half of
the watercolor paper. Apply it on the borders. First, try to align
the masking tape. Keep it parallel with
the paper edges. Once you're done applying
it on the borders, we are going to separate it by applying a single
masking tape in between. In case you want to decrease the thickness of
the masking tape, you can use a simple scissor. You can simply
decrease the width of the masking tape
by cutting it into half in case you want to apply the entire
masking tape in between. That is also absolutely fine. Now apply a little bit of pressure using your
finger so that the masking tape
can get stuck to the watercolor paper
in a nice way. Now in this particular
class project, you can observe we have a
sky area and a water body. Simply use a pencil and
draw a horizontal line, which is basically
a horizon line separating the sky area
and the water body. Now I'll be using my
Quill brush of size two. Take some clear water
and apply a thin coat of water on the entire surface
just above the horizon line. Now we are going to take some
nice darker tone of purple. So make a good color
combination of water and color together and start
applying these random strokes. You can observe the
movement of my quill brush. I'm using the tip of
the entire quill brush. While you're moving your brush
in this particular manner, just leave some white
space in between because we're going to
create a color combination. You can observe the purple
strokes in a random way. Now take some cobal blue in
the same quill brush of size two and apply it in between
the remaining spaces. You can also apply it just above the horizon line and slowly
move towards the above area. It's basically a step which
does not require perfection, but you have to be very much careful with your brush strokes. It's a very random application of the color in this
abstract manner. Also see a few white
spaces in between, which gives a nice cloudy look to the entire abstract sky. Now using the same quill brush, I've taken some darker
tone of bal blue. And you can observe, I have
applied it in the entire pad, just below the horizon line. Now you can take
some darker tone of purple and apply it just
below the horizon line. You can use the tip of your quill brush to add these
horizontal lines as well. Now you can compare it
with the class project. We have painted the sky
area and the water body. Now in this particular
class project, we only have the sky area. I'm going to use my
Quill brush of size two. Again, we are going to
apply a thin coat of water on the entire surface.
No need to hurry at all. Try to apply a thin coat of
water in an even manner. Make sure that there
is no space left between the masking tape
and the watercolor paper. Now, using the same quill brush, make a good composition of
color and water together. Start applying it from
the topmost portion. And again, we'll be leaving
some white spaces in between So you can observe the movement
of my quill brush. It's a simple curved movement. You can also see the
way my hand is moving. It has to be very much free. No need to make
your hands stiff. Now, simply clean
your quill brush. Take some darker
tone of bal blue. Start applying it from
the bottom portion. Slowly move towards
the above area. You can also put in the
bal blue in between the left spaces that
we have kept in between the purple color as well. No need to hurry at all. Try to do this particular step in a very slow and
steady manner. You can observe the way
I'm using the tip of my brush and applying these
little horizontal strokes. These horizontal strokes
basically creates a nice abstract background in case there are white
spaces in between. No need to worry about them. It looks really nice when
the entire background dries. Now let us paint the elements. I'll be taking some solid black color in the
color palette. I'm going to use my Quill
brush of size zero. And we are going to
paint the mountains just above the horizon line. No need to hurry at all. Just paint a simple horizontal
line on the horizon line. Paint an outline of
the entire mountain, and then fill in
solid black color. No need to hurry at all. Use the tip of your quill brush to paint in difficult areas. Basically, the smaller areas. Now we have a nice
landscape area just below the mountains. You can apply a horizontal line and create this
abstract outline, which is basically a very
natural and organic shape. You can create your own
landscape area as well. Now, once you're done
with the outline, you can fill in solid black
color in the inner portion. To make it look a little
bit more aesthetic, I'm adding these
little rock bodies in between the mountains
and the landscape area. Now to enhance the
landscape area, you can use the tip of
your quill brush and add these little
horizontal lines nearby. We have few pine trees
in the entire scenery. Just simply use the tip
of your quill brush in case you find that your color is finished from the color palette. Take a little bit of more color. Add these vertical
lines wherever you want to according to your
convenience as well. And then just start applying
these little strokes. And as you move towards
the bottom area, simply increase the size of the strokes that
you're making. This will create a
beautiful pine tree. It's a very simple and easy technique to paint pine trees. Similarly, I'll be painting
the last tree as well. You can observe using minimal brush strokes and some
basic landscape elements, we have created a nice scenery. Now similarly, let us paint few more elements in the
second background as well. We are going to use the same solid black color from
the color palette. Try to make a good
composition of solid black color
and water together. Make sure that you do not have more water in
your color palette. It will decrease the saturation
of solid black color. Now on the top right corner, if you observe carefully, I'm starting by creating
this nice organic outline, which is basically
the plants that is coming inside
the entire scenery. We are creating the
outline first and then we are going to fill in solid black color in the
inner portion. It's a very simple
and easy technique. In fact, as you all
know that plants generally have a very
natural and organic shape in case you want to create
your own composition of the plants coming
inside the entire scenery. That is also absolutely fine. You can observe that once
I'm done with the outline, I can also enhance
it using the tip of my Quill brush in case you find that your color is getting
finished from the brush, you can definitely
take some more color from the color palette. You'll get an idea
if your brush moves a little bit rough on the
entire watercolor surface. Now I'm going to add a beautiful house in
the bottom portion. Before that, I've
added a little bit of plantation on the left
hand side as well, using the same steps to create
the outline for the house. First I have painted
two slant lines and you just have to paint the
walls on either sides. Once you're done with the walls, you can connect it
with the plants in the left hand side and
a simple wall area. Once you're done with
the entire outline, just fill in solid
black color in the entire portion. No
need to hurry at all. Try to paint it in a very
slow and steady manner. Use the tip of your brush
to paint in smaller areas. Also, in case you
find that you have axis amount of water
in your brush, you can definitely dab it
onto the tissue paper, it will remove axis
amount of water. Now we are going
to have a simple street lamp on the
left hand side. You can add a vertical
line and a slant line. Then I'm going to
paint a beautiful chimney on one of the roofs. And we're going to add
a simple pine tree. It's a simple technique, just draw a vertical line. Start applying these
little strokes from the top portion slowly. As you move towards
the bottom area, increase the size
of the strokes. We are done with
all the elements using solid black color. Now I'll be using
solid white color in the same brush of size zero. It's a quill brush basically. And take some good amount
of solid white color paint. A beautiful sun, or you can also consider it as a moon
that is absolutely fine. And then you have to draw
this circular shape. I'll be using the tip
of my quill brush to get a nice reflection effect
onto the water body as well, creating these little
horizontal lines. Now in the street lamp, you can add a little bit
of white color and paint a beautiful sun in this
particular scenery as well. By drawing a simple
circular shape, you can enhance the chimney. You can add these square
shapes in a set of Ford to create a
nice window element in the entire house as well. You can observe the contrast of white and black color with the entire abstract background. Now let us remove
the masking tape so that we can get
a proper edge. This is the reason of
applying the masking tape, so that we get a
nice white border for all the class
projects as well. No need to hurry at all. Try to remove the
masking tape in an angle so that you do not end up tearing your beautiful painting. Now, I'll be removing
the last tape as well, and you can observe
how slowly I'm trying to remove it. You can observe. We are done with both the
abstract backgrounds, the sky area and the water body. And it's a very simple
and easy technique. Now let us paint the sill outs. In this particular
class project, you can observe these beautiful mountains and rock bodies. Let us start with
that. First, I'll be using my quill brush
of size zero only. I'll be making a
good composition of water and color together. Make sure that you do
not have axis amount of water that will decrease the saturation of
solid black color. In the practice sheet,
you can observe I have started by drawing a
simple horizontal line. And the way I'm using the
tip of my quill brush, you just have to apply
least pressure on it. Now you can observe that I'm
creating the outline first. As you all know that
mountains generally have a very natural
and organic shape. There isn't any specific
way of painting them. You can create your
own composition. You can play with the shape and size of the rock bodies as well. You can observe that I have created the entire
outline first. Now, once you're done
with the outline, use the same brush and fill in solid black color in
the entire portion. No need to hurry at all. Make sure that there is
no space left in between. In case you have axis amount
of water in your brush, you can simply dab your
brush to the tissue paper. It will remove axis amount
of water and you'll get a nice saturation
of solid black color. You can also observe
the way I'm using the tip of my Quill brush
to paint in smaller areas. In case you find that your color is getting finished
from the brush, you can definitely take some more color from
the color palette. This is a simple
technique to paint some beautiful mountains
and rock bodies. Now if you observe this particular class
project carefully, we have a beautiful fence element that we're
going to learn. Again, I'll be taking my same
quill brush of size zero. Start by applying a
simple horizontal line, now in order to make
it a little bit thick, I'll be applying another
same horizontal stroke. And apply a little
bit of pressure that you get a nice thick
line in the bottom portion. Similarly, apply another
horizontal line, but this time leave
a little bit of space in between both the lines. Now we're going to
add vertical lines. Try to have a little bit of distance between
these vertical lines. You can also observe it
in the class project, we have these vertical
lines a little bit thicker. Then in between, we are going to paint thin vertical
lines as well. Once we are done with the
thick vertical lines, again, take some good
amount of color in your quill brush and
apply least pressure. Use the tip of your
quill brush and add these vertical lines in between the thicker
vertical lines. This basically creates some nice aesthetics
in the entire fence. And the fence looks a
little bit more attractive. No need to hurry at all. Try to keep a very
free and calm hand. Also, you can observe the
movement of Micol brush. Now as you can observe,
we have painted the entire sellout for the fence in this particular
class project. Now let us move towards
another element. Now in this particular
class project, you can observe some
nice bushes and plants. In the bottom portion, we are going to paint this
particular sill out. I'll be taking some
good amount of solid black color from
the color palette. Again, add a little bit
of water in case you find your color is a little bit
stiff in the color palette. Again, we are going to start by applying a horizontal line in the bottom portion using
the tip of the quill brush. Now once you're done with
the horizontal line, you can observe I have
drawn two vertical lines. And slowly add these little
strokes combining together, forming a very organic
and natural outline. No need to hurry at all, just
apply these little strokes. And you can observe that I'm using the tip of my quill brush. Now, once we are done
creating the entire outline, we are going to use
the entire surface of the brush and apply solid black color in the
entire inner portion. No need to hurry at all. Make sure that there is no space left between the
solid black color. It will not look nice when
the entire color dries, so you can observe the entire plant body on the
bottom portion. Now we have few bushes which are apart from the
entire plant body. Again, it's a very simple
and easy technique. You have to create this
natural organic outline using the tip of
your quill brush and create a bushy shape. Again, plants generally have a very natural and
organic shape. You can create your own
composition as well. Now once you're
done with the bush, just simply use the
tip and connect the branches with the plantation
in the bottom portion, this is how you have to create the entire plantation
for the class projects. Now if you observe this particular class project placed in the right hand side, we have some
beautiful palm trees. It's a very simple
and easy technique. You have to apply very less
pressure on your quill brush. Use the tip of your quill brush and create these leaves on the entire circular format and connect it with
one single leave. You can observe that we have
painted all the leaves. Now you have to enhance the beauty of the
entire palm tree. Just use the tip of
your quill brush. Add these little strokes, which basically enhances
the entire leaf. No need to hurry at all and try to keep your hand very much loose and calm while you're painting these minute elements. Now, once you're done
with the leaves, you have to connect it
to the entire trunk. You just have to create a vertical line which
is in an angle, simply apply a little
bit of pressure. Start connecting the
entire trunk with the leaves that we have painted
on the topmost portion. We are done with the
entire palm tree. You can play with
the shape, size, and the angle of
the entire trunk. It is absolutely fine. Now in this particular
class project, in the right side, you can observe a beautiful tree trunk. It's a very simple
and easy technique. You can create the outline of the entire trunk
using the tip of your quill brush once
and then you can fill in solid black color
in the inner portion. It's a simple Y shape if
you observe carefully, then once you're done
with the outline, you can apply the solid black
color in the inner portion. No need to hurry at all. Try to apply the color in a
slow and steady manner. Make sure that there is no space left in between the
solid black color. You can add few more branches using the tip of
your quill brush, applying very less pressure. We are done with the
entire practice sheet. I have labeled all the
elements in detail. You can have a look carefully. The practice sheet will help you a lot to develop
confidence while painting, and the chances of making
mistakes will be very less. The entire practice session will be like a warm up for you. Before starting with
all the class projects, I hope that you got
an exact idea of how we are going to paint
all the elements in detail. Now let us move
towards the next part.
5. Lets Tape the Paper: Everybody. Before we start
with the class projects, let us learn how to tape the watercolor paper using
a simple masking tape. You can observe all the seven
class projects and there's a beautiful white border if you observe carefully before
we start painting, we apply the masking tape on the outline of
the entire paper. And once we remove the
entire masking tape, we get this beautiful
white border. If you observe the
watercolor papers carefully, it is 300 GSM and
the size is six. This can be considered as a
mini watercolor painting. Now you can simply place the watercolor paper wherever
you find it comfortable. I'm placing it on a wooden
board so that I can move it in whichever direction
I'm comfortable painting in. You can use a writing pad
or a desk surface as well. Once you have placed
your watercolor paper, now take a piece out of
your masking tape and then simply apply it on the topmost portion of
the watercolor paper. Try to have some portion
of the masking tape onto the watercolor paper and some onto the
wooden surface. Now, once you have
applied the masking tape, apply a little bit of pressure
using your finger or thumb so that the masking tape can get completely stuck to
the entire surface. You can make sure that
your masking tape is parallel with the paper edge, so that when we remove
the entire masking tape, we get a nice parallel
white border. I have applied the
last masking tape on the bottom portion as well. You can observe that
we have applied the masking tape on
all the four sides. And you can easily
move the wooden board so that you can paint in
a comfortable position. Now let us move
towards the next part.
6. Painting 1 - Pine Trees: Hey buddy, You're most welcome
to the first painting, which is pine trees. As you can observe,
I'm ready with my watercolor paper with the masking tape on
all the four sides. All the art supplies
are placed nearby. I'll be using a
simple pencil and we're going to draw
a horizontal line. It's basically a
horizon line which separates the sky area
and the water body. Right now, you can observe that the color palette is
completely clean. We're going to take
some purple color. Similarly, we are going to
take some bal blue as well. Always try to take water colors in a required amount only. No need to waste the resources. In case the color get finished, we can take some more color. Again, I'll be taking my
Quill brush of size two and we're going to apply
a thin coat of water just above
the horizon line. No need to hurry at all. Try to apply an even coat of water and make
sure that there is no space left between the masking tape and
the watercolor paper. This is basically known as
a wet on wet technique, in which we apply a
thin coat of water. Initially, when we are going
to apply the water colors, it will blend in
a very nice way. Now I'll be taking a little bit of water and we
are going to make a good composition of purple
color and water together. Try to get a nice consistency of color and water together. And you can observe
that I have made a nice random stroke starting
from the topmost portion. And we have also left some
white space in between. No need to worry about
the white spaces, We are going to cover
it with cobaldblue. Now simply clean your quill
brush and we are going to take some nice darker
tone of cobalblue. Again, you have to make
a good consistency of water and color together. Start applying it just above the horizon line
and you will slowly observe a nice blend between the purple color
and cobald blue. You can observe the
movement of my brush in case there is a little bit of white space left in between. That is absolutely fine. It will look really nice. When the entire
background dries, it gives a nice bold sky look and the clouds will appear
in a very nice way. You can use the tip of
your quill brush to add these little horizontal
strokes in between as well. In case you find that there is axis amount of water
in your brush, you can definitely dab your
brush to the tissue paper, it will remove axis
amount of water. We are done with the entire
sky and as you can see, it's a very simple
and easy step. Now let the background dry for a while and let us
paint the water body. I'll be again applying
a thin coat of water just below the
horizon line this time. Now once we are done applying
a thin coat of water, we are going to take some
nice darker tone of purple. Make a good consistency of
water and color together. No need to hurry at all. Take your time and just apply a nice horizontal stroke
just below the horizon line. And slowly move towards
the bottom area. Make sure that there is no space left between the
masking tape and the water color paper because it will not look nice when
we remove the masking tape. Now just below the horizon line, you can start applying
these horizontal strokes to make the entire water body look a little bit
more aesthetic. I'll be taking some darker
tone of cobald blue and you can start applying it from
the bottom portion slowly. You can move towards
the above area. These little horizontal stroke basically represents
some nice waves in the entire water
body and it looks really amazing when the
entire color dries up. There isn't any specific
way of applying them. You can just apply
the horizontal strokes in a random format. We are done with the sky
area and the water body. Let the background
dry for a while. Now I'll be taking my Quill
brush of size zero and just simply take some darker tone of solid black color in
the color palette. Again, we are going to
make a good consistency of water and color together. In case you find that your brush is having a lot of water, you can dab it onto
the tissue paper, that axis amount of
water will be removed. We're going to start by painting some beautiful mountains
just above the horizon line. You can observe carefully that I'll be using the tip
of my quill brush, applying very less
pressure on it. Simply paint a horizontal
line on the horizon line. We're going to create the
outline of the entire mountain. First, you can observe
that I'm using the tip of my quill brush creating this nice organic, natural outline. Mountains generally are
having a very organic shape. There isn't any specific
way of painting them. You can create your own
composition as well. It is absolutely fine. I've started from
the left hand side, slowly moved towards
the right hand side. The mountain in the right hand side is a little bit bigger. You can observe the
variation and you can fill in solid black color in
the entire inner portion. No need to hurry at all. Try to paint it in a very
slow and steady manner. Make sure that there
is no space left while you're applying
a solid black color. Now I'll be painting
a nice landscape area just below the mountain body. Just leave a little
bit of space. Draw a simple horizontal
line just below that. You can create a nice variation
for the entire island. Then you can fill in
solid black color in the entire inner portion, you'll observe a nice variation in the entire landscape
area as well. Similarly, we can create a nice rock body in between
the mountains and the. Landscape area. So
you just have to create these little
rock bodies in between the mountains and
the landscape area by just applying these
small black patches. No need to hurry at all. So here's a very easy
and simple technique. Have to apply very less
pressure on your brush. And use the tip of
your brush to paint this smaller portion
wherever you want to. Also, in case you find that there is a lot of
water in your brush, you can dab your brush
to the tissue paper. It will remove a
lot of water from the brush and you'll have a nice saturation of
solid black color. I'll be adding a little bit of landscape area in the
bottom portion as well. Just apply a very random
and organic outline and fill in solid black color in the entire inner portion. Just make sure that you
do not leave any space between the watercolor
paper and the masking tape. Now to enhance the
landscape area and make it look a little
bit more aesthetic, you can use the tip of
your quill brush and add the thin line just below
the landscape area. It basically creates
a nice depth in the entire landscape area and it looks a little
bit more aesthetic. You can already observe
a beautiful contrast with the solid black color and the background
that we have created. We are done painting
the mountains and the landscape area. Now let us move to
the next element, which is painting some
beautiful pine trees. I'll be using my quill
brush of size zero only. And we are going to paint
these vertical lines, which basically represents the position of the pine trees. In case you want
to experiment and explore and create
your own scenery, you can decide the position of the pine trees according to
your convenience as well. Once you're done adding
the vertical lines, you just have to create
these little strokes. Starting from the
topmost portion, we are going to move
towards the bottom area. As you move towards
the bottom area, slowly increase the size of the strokes that
you're making. It's a very simple and easy
technique of painting. Pine trees, you just
have to observe the hand movement and just apply very less
pressure on your brush. In case you find that there is axis amount of water
in your brush, just simply dab your brush to the tissue paper so that axis amount of water
will be removed. Now, similarly, we'll be adding these little strokes to the
smaller pine trees as well. One pine tree I have on
the right hand side, and we have one pine tree on the left hand side in
case you're not that much confident enough to paint the
pine trees directly towards your final painting
and you do not want to spoil your beautiful
abstract background. What you can do is
you can practice it on a rough scrape
of paper initially, and then you can come
towards your final painting. This will help you a lot
to develop confidence and improvise your hand
movement and the chances of making mistakes will be
also very less Trust me, this is one of the most
satisfying part of painting pine trees because it's a very
easy and simple technique. You can observe that I'm
painting the last pine tree. We have created a
nice combination of landscape area, mountains, rock bodies, and
pine trees together completing an entire scenery
which is very minimal. Now I'll be cleaning
my quill brush of size zero and we're going
to take solid white color. This time you can take some nice amount of solid white color in
your quill brush. Add a little bit of water to make the color a
little bit loose. And we are going to paint a beautiful sun in the sky area. You can also consider
it as a moon. That is absolutely fine. I'll be using the tip of my quill brush applying
very less pressure on it. And you just have to
paint a circular shape. No need to hurry at all. Take your time and paint a nice circular shape
in the sky area. You can also observe
a nice contrast of solid white color
and the background. Now to create the
sun's reflection, you can just add these little horizontal strokes
in the water body. Slowly, You can decrease the size of the
horizontal strokes. No need to hurry at all. Try to paint it in a
slow and steady manner so we are done with
the entire painting. Let us remove the masking tape, which is one of the
most satisfying part. No need to hurry at all. Just remove the masking
tape in an angle so that you do not end up tearing
your beautiful painting. You can observe her
solid white border, which comes when we remove
the entire masking tape, and that is the
reason of applying the entire masking tape. Let me take you a little
bit closer so that you can observe the entire
painting carefully. I hope that you enjoyed this particular
painting and got to learn something new
using minimal elements. We have painted a simple
and elegant painting, now let us move towards
the next painting.
7. Painting 2 - Palm Trees: Hey everybody. You're most welcome to the second painting, which is palm trees. As you can observe,
I'm ready with my watercolor paper with the masking tape on
all the four sides. And I'll be using my
Quill brush of size two. We're going to apply a thin coat of water on the entire surface. We are not having a
water body this time, so we are not painting a
horizon line this time. No need to hurry at all. Just apply an even
coat of water. Make sure that there
is no space left between the masking tape
and the watercolor paper. Now I'll be using my same
quill brush of size two. And we're going to take a nice darker value of Cobal Blue. Make a good composition
of water and color together and start applying
it from the topmost portion. No need to hurry at all. It's a very simple
and easy step. While you're moving
towards the bottom area, leave some white
spaces in between. It will create a
nice cloud effect in the entire bold sky. No need to worry
about perfection. You just have to apply it in a very random and natural way. You just have to leave some
white spaces in between. Now, once we are done
applying cobal blue, just simply clean your
quill brush and we are going to take some
darker tone of purple. Again, make a good composition of water and color together. Slowly start applying it from the bottom portion and move
towards the above area. You will observe a nice blend of both the colors together. And this is the
reason of applying a thin coat of water initially, which is basically known
as a wet on wet technique. Now slowly you can apply these horizontal strokes in between to create a
nice cloud effect. You can observe a nice
gradient effect of cobal, blue and purple together, starting from the topmost
portion till the bottom area. You can observe
the hand movement. And you can simply apply these horizontal strokes
in a random way. In case you find that there is axis amount of water
in your brush, just simply dab your brush
to the tissue paper, it will remove axis
amount of water and you'll get a nice
saturation of color. We are done painting
the entire sky area, let it dry for a while. Now I'll be taking my Quill
brush of size zero and we're going to take some solid black color in the
color palette. No need to hurry at all.
Make a good composition of color and water together. Try to have more color and
less water so that you can get a nice saturation
of solid black color. And we're going to
paint some beautiful plants in the bottom area. It's a very simple and
easy technique to paint. Some plantations, you just have to use the tip of
your quill brush. Apply these little
strokes and combine them together to form a
nice bushy effect. Once we'll be done with
the entire outline, we're going to fill
in solid black color in the entire inner portion. You can carefully observe that combining these little
strokes together, I'm trying to have
a nice variation to create some beautiful plants. In the bottom portion, I have started from the
left hand side slowly. I'm moving towards the
right hand side area. Once you are done painting
an organic outline, you can fill in
solid black color in the entire inner portion. Just make sure that you apply a nice even coat of
solid black color. Also, make sure that
there is no space left between the masking tape
and the watercolor paper. It will not look nice when we remove the entire
masking tape. Also, you can make
sure that there is no space left between
the solid black color. While you're painting,
you can use the tip of your quill brush to enhance
the entire organic outline. As you all know that
plants generally have a very organic
and natural shape. You can create your own
composition as well. It is absolutely fine. We are almost done painting the entire plantation
in the bottom area. Now let us paint
the main element, which is the palm trees. It's a very simple
and easy technique. You just have to observe
these steps carefully. We are going to paint the leaves of the entire palm tree first. You can observe the
movement of my hand. I'm just creating
these little strokes, combining together and
forming the entire leaf. And you have to keep the
position of the leaves in a circular format so that it can complete the entire
foliage of the palm tree. You can observe I have painted
a leaf in between also. And we are going to
connect all the leaves together and then we'll connect it to the
main tree trunk. You can also observe the way I'm using the tip
of my quill brush, applying very less pressure, and leaving the strokes
on the outer portion. Now using the tip
of my quill brush, I'll connect it with the leaf that we have painted
in the center portion. No need to hurry at all. Try to paint it in a very
slow and steady manner. Also, no need to worry
about painting it in the exact same
way I have painted. Now applying some pressure
in the quill brush, I have just connected
the entire tree trunk with the plantation that we
painted in the bottom area. As you can observe, using minimal steps and some
basic painting techniques, we have painted a beautiful
sell out for a palm tree. Similarly, we are going to add another palm tree which
is going to be on the right hand side
and it is going to be a little bit smaller
than the first one. The steps and method
are absolutely same. You just have to
create the leaves in a circular format and then you have to
connect all the leaves together in case you
are not that much confident enough to paint the palm tree directly
towards your final painting. What you can do is you
can practice it on a rough scrape of
paper initially, and then you can come
towards your final painting. It will help you a lot
to develop confidence and the chances of making
mistakes will be very less. Now you can observe
I have connected the second palm tree also with the plantation in
the bottom area. You can apply a little bit of more strokes to make the tree
trunk a little bit thicker. You can also observe
a beautiful contrast of both the trees with the background that we have painted. Now we are going to paint
some bushes which are going to be connected with the plantation in the bottom area. The steps are very
easy and simple. You just have to apply these little strokes
combining together, forming an organic
outline for a bush. Then you have to fill in solid black color in the
inner portion. No need to hurry at all. Try to paint it in a
slow and steady manner. Use the tip of your quill brush and apply very less pressure on it in case you find that there is axis amount of
water in your brush. You can dab the brush to the tissue paper so that axis amount of water
will be removed. You can use the tip of your
quill brush carefully and connect these branches with the plantation in
the bottom area. To make the plantation look
a little bit more aesthetic, you can add another small bush
just beside the first one, but it is a little bit
smaller than the first one. Also, in case you want to create your own composition
of the plantations, that is also absolutely fine. Now you can observe a
beautiful combination of both the palm trees, a plantation in the bottom area, and the bushes that
we have painted. Now we're going to
add another element, which is a tree element which is coming in
the entire scenery. We are not going to
paint an entire tree, but it's bushes that are going to come in
the entire scenery. We are adding this element
on the top left corner. You just have to take some good amount of solid black color from
the color palette. Make a good composition of
color and water together. Make sure that you have
less amount of water so that you have a nice
saturated black color. You can observe that
using the tip of my quill brush and adding these little strokes
combining together, forming an organic outline for the plantation that is
on the topmost portion. Then I have fill in
solid black color in the entire inner portion. Just make sure that
there is no space left between the masking tape
and the watercolor paper. It will not look nice when we remove the entire masking tape. You can play with
the composition of the entire bush as well. It is absolutely fine. No need to worry
about painting it in the exact same
way I have painted. You can decide the
location of the bushes, you can play with the
shape and sizes as well. Also, you can observe the contrast between
the sellouts and the background color in case you want to enhance
the entire bush element. You can use the tip of your
quill brush carefully. You can just extend
these strokes to make it look a little bit more
aesthetic and appealing. Plants generally have a very
natural and organic shape. There is no specific
way of painting them. You can create your
own composition and shape of the
entire bush as well. We are done with the
entire sell out element. Now I'll be taking some
solid white color in my Quill brush of size zero and we're going to
paint a beautiful sun. You can also consider
it as a moon. That is absolutely fine. Take some good amount
of solid white color in case you find that there
is axis amount of water, Just dab your brush
to the tissue paper. It will remove excess
amount of water. And simply paint
a circular shape. Apply less pressure
on your brush and just simply paint
a circular shape. We are done with the
entire painting. Let us remove the masking tape, which is one of the
most satisfying step. No need to hurry at all. Try to remove the
masking tape in an angle so that you do not end up tearing your beautiful painting. While you're removing
the masking tape, you can also observe a
beautiful white border. We are done. Now let me
take you a little bit closer so that you can observe
all the details carefully. You can observe that combining minimal elements together we have created a
beautiful scenery. I hope that you enjoyed creating this particular painting and
got to learn something new. Now let us move towards
the next painting.
8. Painting 3 - River Hills: Everybody, you're most welcome
to the third painting, which is River Hills. As you can observe,
I'm ready with my watercolor paper with the masking tape on
all the four sides. I'll be using a simple pencil
to draw a horizon line, which is basically a
simple horizontal line separating the sky area
and the water body. Now I'll be taking
my quill brush of size two and we are going to apply a thin coat of
water on the sky area. It is just above
the horizon line. No need to y at all. Try to apply an
even coat of water. Make sure that there
is no space left between the masking tape
and the watercolor paper. Now we are going to take some nice darker tone
of purple color. So observe carefully
in the color palette. I'll be making a
good composition of water and color together. Try to have less
amount of water and more color so that you get a nice darker tone
of purple color. And you can observe
that randomly, I have applied a nice stroke, leaving some white
space in between. Since we want to create
an abstract background which is going to be
bold and beautiful, that's why we are applying
these random strokes. You can observe the
movement of my quill brush. Now just simply clean your
quill brush and we're going to take some darker
tone of cobalt blue. Again, try to make
a good composition of water and color together. Start applying it from
the topmost portion. And you can also apply it in between the white
spaces that we left, even after applying
the cobalblue color. In case there is
white space left, it is absolutely fine. It will look really nice. When the color dries up, it gives a nice cloud effect
to the entire bold sky. Similarly, you have to apply the Cobal blue color just
above the horizon line, slowly move towards
the above area, and you will observe a beautiful blend between both the colors. This is basically known as
a wet on wet technique, in which we apply a thin coat
of water initially and then color so that the colors blend in a nice
way and naturally. Also, we are done with the sky area, let
it dry for a while. Let us paint the water body. I'll be taking my quill
brush of size two. Again, take some darker
tone of purple color. Make a good composition of
water and color together. Apply just below
the horizon line. No need to hurry at
all. Use the tip of your quill Brush carefully, just near the horizon line and slowly cover
the entire area. Make sure that you do
not leave any space between the masking tape
and the watercolor paper. Now we are going to take some
darker tone of cobalt blue. So clean your quill brush and apply it just on
the bottom portion. Slowly move towards
the above area. You will observe a beautiful blend between both the colors. Don't worry about the
random horizontal strokes. It looks really nice and gives a nice wave effect to
the entire water body. You can observe
that I'm applying the horizontal strokes
in a very random way. Only we are done with
the water body as well. Let the background
dry for a while. Now we are going to
use our Quill brush of size zero in
the color palette. I'm going to take some
solid black color. We're going to start by painting some mountains just
above the horizon line. Mountains generally have a very natural and organic shape. There is no specific
way of painting. Then you can create your
own composition as well. You can initially start by
creating the outline of the entire mountain using
the tip of your quill brush, and then you can fill
in solid black color in the entire portion. No need to hurry at all. Try to paint it in a
slow and steady manner. Make sure that you do not leave any space between the
solid black color, also in the left hand portion. Make sure that you do not
leave any space between the masking tape
and the water color that we are applying right now. Similarly, we can
add few more hills connecting to the first
mountain that we have painted. Now let us create
some nice variation. Also, I'll be creating
another mountain. I'm starting with the
outline first so you can observe it's a very
random and natural shape. We are leaving some
space in between so you can create this nice
shape in between. Also, once you're done
with the entire outline, you can fill in solid black
color in the entire portion. I have added one
more mountain on the right hand side which is a little bit bigger
than the first one. Now once you're done
with the entire outline, you can fill in solid black
color in the inner portion. Here's a very easy
and simple technique to paint in smaller areas. You have to use the
tip of your quelvra and apply very less pressure
on it so that you get a nice grip on your
hand to paint in such smaller areas you do not
move outside the outline. Now similarly, I'll be
adding solid black color in the mountain that
we have painted on the right hand side as well. Make sure that you do
not leave any space between the masking tape
and the watercolor paper. Now to create some
nice depth and details to the entire mountain bodies that
we have painted, you're going to create
its reflection effect. You just have to create these
little horizontal strokes and you will observe that the strokes are
getting vanished. As we move towards
the bottom area apply very less pressure, and slowly as you move
towards the bottom area, just decrease the size of the horizontal strokes
that you're making. This will help us
a lot to develop some nice depth and detail
to the entire mountain body. This particular step
requires a lot of patience. And your hand should be very
much free and lose so that you do not get a
very solid stroke. We have to create a
Nie reflection effect, so it has to be blood. You can observe as I'm moving
towards the bottom area, I'm decreasing the size of the
horizontal stroke as well. In case you find that there is axis amount of water
in your brush, you can dab it onto
the tissue paper so that axis amount of
water will be removed. Now we're going to add
few more rock bodies in the entire water body area. As you can observe, I'm creating a very random and
natural outline. First of the entire rock body. Then I'll be filling in solid black color in the
inner portion. Similarly, we are going
to repeat the same steps, but we are going to create the outline in a
very different way. You can play with
the shape, size, and composition of the entire
rocks together as well. It is not at all compulsory
for you to paint it in the exact same way
I'm painting right now. Also in case you
are not that much confident enough to paint
the rock bodies directly towards your final
painting and you do not want to spoil your
beautiful abstract background. What you can do is you
can practice it on a rough scrape of
paper initially, and then you can come
towards your final painting. This will help you a lot
to develop confidence and the chances of making
mistakes will be very less. You can observe that
we have created a nice cluster of solid black rocks in the
bottom portion as well. Similarly, you can add
few more rock bodies near the mountains that we have painted on the
left hand side, you can observe it's a very
simple and easy technique of creating these
small black patches. Just make sure that you
apply very less pressure on your brush and your hand should be very much
free and lose. In case you find that there is axis amount of water
in your brush, you can simply dab your
brush to the tissue paper. Also, in case you find that the color is getting
finished from your brush, you can take some more color
from the color palette. It is absolutely fine. Slowly, we have added a lot of rock bodies into the
entire water body area. Now in the bottom portion, we have a little bit
of bigger rocks. We can create a
nice wave effect by adding these little
strokes around you. Just have to use the
tip of your quill brush and add these little strokes
around the rock body, which creates some nice shadow and depth to the
water body as well. The painting looks a little bit more aesthetic and attractive. You can observe that I'm just randomly adding these
little strokes around. No need to hurry at all. Try to paint these
little strokes in a very slow and
steady manner. Also, in case you are not that much confident enough to apply the reflection effect and these little strokes towards your final painting directly. And you do not want to spoil
your beautiful background. What you can do is you
can practice it on a rough scrape of
paper initially, and then you can come
towards your final painting. It will help your lot to develop your hand movement and the chances of making
mistakes will be very less. Similarly, you can add few
more reflection effect to the smaller rock
bodies as well. We are almost done painting the entire sill outs for
this particular painting. Now let us move towards
the next element, which is painting
a beautiful Sun. I'll be taking some
solid white color. I'll be using my same
quill brush of size zero. Take some good amount
of solid white color in it and just paint
a circular shape. You can decide the position of the sun or in fact you want
to consider it as a moon. That is also absolutely fine. You can decide its position according to your convenience. Just simply paint a
beautiful circular shape. Take your time and paint it
in a slow and steady manner. Now to create its reflection
effect onto the water body, just simply paint these
horizontal strokes, starting from the horizon line, slowly moving towards
the bottom area. As you move towards
the bottom area, you can slowly
decrease the size of the horizontal
strokes that you're making. No need to hurry at all. Try to paint it in a very
slow and steady manner. Apply very less pressure
on your quill brush so that you can get a
random stroke as well. Now to enhance the mountains, you can add these little white, solid strokes on the outline of the mountains that
we have painted, so that it can get
a nice contrast, and the mountains can get a little bit more
aesthetic and appealing. No need to hurry at all.
Do this particular step in a very slow and
steady manner. Use the tip of your quill brush carefully and we are done
with the entire painting. Now let us remove
the masking tape. No need to hurry at all. Try to remove the
masking tape in an angle so that you do not end up tearing your beautiful painting. Also, it is one of the
most satisfying part. Once we are done removing
the masking tape, you can observe a beautiful
solid white border, which makes the entire painting look a little bit
more aesthetic. Let me take you a little
bit closer so that you can observe all
the details carefully. You can observe that combining
minimal elements together, we have formed a
beautiful scenery. I hope that you enjoyed creating this
particular painting. Now let us move towards
the next painting.
9. Painting 4 - Tree Trunk: Hey buddy, you're
most welcome to the fourth painting
which is tree trunk. As you can observe,
I'm ready with my watercolor paper and the masking tape on
all the four sides. I'll be using my quill brush of size two and
we're going to apply a thin coat of water on the entire surface of
the watercolor paper. No need to hurry at all. Try to apply an even coat of water and make
sure that there is no space left between the masking tape and
the watercolor paper. The reason behind applying a
thin coat of water initially is so that the colors can
blend in a very natural way. We are going to take some
darker tone of purple, try to make a good composition of water and color together. No need to hurry at
all, mix the colors. Well, now we are starting
from the topmost portion, and you can observe the
movement of my quill brush. No need to hurry
at all and leave some white spaces in between
that will look really nice. When the color dries up, it gives a nice cloud effect. Slowly, we will move
towards the bottom area. Now just simply clean
your quill brush and we are going to take some
darker tone of cobaldblue. Again, make a nice composition of water and color together. In case you find that there is axis amount of water
in your brush, just simply dab your brush
to the tissue paper, it will remove axis
amount of water. Now start applying
the cobald blue just below the purple color. And slowly complete
the entire area. In the bottom portion,
you can observe the random strokes
that I'm making in between the purple
color as well, This basically creates a
nice abstract cloud effect. No need to hurry at all. Try to observe the
hand movement and do it very slowly and
in a steady manner. You can observe a beautiful blend between both the colors. You can use the tip of the quill brush to add these
little strokes in between. Also, make sure that you
do not leave any space between the masking tape
and the watercolor paper. Now, let the background
dry for a while. And I'll be taking my
quill brush of size zero. And we're going to take some
solid black color in it. Make a good composition of water and solid black
color together. Try to have less amount
of water and more color. Now we are going to paint some plantation in the bottom area. It's a very simple
and easy technique. You just have to use the
tip of your quill brush. Add these little strokes
and combine them together to form a nice bushy
plantation in the bottom area. Plants generally have a very
natural and organic shape. There isn't any specific
way of painting them. You can create your
own composition and an organic outline according
to your convenience as well. I started from the
left hand side, slowly moved towards
the right hand side, and you can observe a
beautiful organic outline. Now once you're done
with the entire outline, you can fill in
solid black color in the inner portion in case you find that your color is getting finished from the brush, you can take some more color
from the color palette. You can observe the
way I'm applying my brush strokes to apply solid black color in
the remaining portion. Just make sure that you
do not leave any space between the masking tape
and the watercolor paper. That will not look nice when we remove the entire
masking tape, Try to fill in solid black color in a slow and steady manner, and do not leave any
space in between. We are done with the
entire plantation. Now let us paint some
beautiful tree trunk. I'm going to use the tip of my quill brush and we're going to create the outline first. Now, if you might have
observed a tree trunk, it's a very natural
and random shape of the branches of a tree. Forming and combining together, we are creating basically the outline of the
entire trunk first. No need to hurry at all, Just use the tip of
your quill brush. Apply very less pressure on it and just create
the outline first. Then slowly you can fill in solid black color in
the inner portion. Make sure that you
have more amount of color in your brush and less water because it will decrease the saturation of
your solid black color. In case you find that there is axis amount of water
in your brush, you can simply dab your
brush to the tissue paper. It will remove the axis amount
of water in your brush. You can already observe a beautiful contrast
of the entire trunk and the plantation with the beautiful background
that we have painted now. Similarly, we are going to add one more tree trunk just
beside the first one. You can add the little branches connecting to the
main branch as well. In case you want to
have a thin branch, you have to apply less
pressure on your quill brush. In case you want to
have a bigger branch, apply a little bit of more
pressure to make the stroke a little bit thicker,
you can observe that. Similarly, I'm adding
one more tree trunk on the left hand side slowly in order to make it a
little bit thicker. You can add few more strokes in case you're not that
much confident enough to paint the tree trunk directly towards your final
painting and you do not want to spoil your beautiful sky area
that you have painted. What you can do is
you can practice it on a rough scrape
of paper initially, and then you can come
towards your final painting. This will help your
lot to develop your hand movement and the chance of making
mistakes will be very less. You can give some nice
finishing and details using the tip of your quill brush
in the outline area as well. You can connect a few more thin branches to the
main tree trunk. Also, in case you want to create your own composition
of the tree trunk, Deciding the position
and the shape and size, that is also absolutely fine. Now we are creating few bushes just above the plantation
that we painted. You just have to use the
tip of your quill brush, create a natural
organic outline, making these little
strokes combined together. Then you can add thin branches connecting them with the main plantation in the bottom area. No need to hurry at all. Try to paint it in a very
slow and steady manner. Take your time and paint
it with a lot of patience. Now, once we have painted
a beautiful bush, we're going to add another tree trunk which
is going to have a nice variation in the
shape you can observe. I've started with a
beautiful outline. You can make the
main trunk a little bit thicker by adding
few more strokes. You can make sure that
while you're painting the tree trunk and connecting
the branches together, try to paint it in a very
slow and steady manner. Take your time and try to
paint it with patients. No need to worry
about painting it in the exact same way
I have painted or in case your
strokes are not in the exact same way I'm
creating right now, it is absolutely fine. Trees generally have a very
natural and organic shape. You can create your own
composition as well. We have connected few
branches which are getting ended up at the
left hand side portion. You can add few more branches
which are very thin, so you can just apply very less pressure and make
these little thin branches. You can also observe a beautiful composition
of the tree trunks, the bushes and the
plantation that we have painted in
the bottom area. In case you want to increase the number of branches that
are connected together. That is also absolutely fine. You can observe that I'm adding few more strokes in
between the main branch. And it's a very easy
and simple technique. You just have to use the tip of your quill brush carefully. Now we are going to
paint a beautiful sun, or also you can
consider it as a moon. That is absolutely fine. Take some solid white color
in your quill brush of size zero and just
paint a circular shape. You can decide the position of the sun according to your
convenience as well. Also, you can observe
a beautiful contrast of the sun and the
background color. No need to hurry at all. Try to paint it in a very
slow and steady manner, and we are done with
the entire painting. Now let us remove
the masking tape. No need to hurry at all. Try to remove the
masking tape in an angle so that you do not end up tearing your beautiful painting, and this is one of the
most satisfying part. You can also observe a
beautiful white border that we get after removing
the masking tape. Now let me take you a
little bit closer so that you can observe all
the details carefully. You can observe combining
minimal elements. Together, we formed
a beautiful scenery. I hope that you enjoyed creating this particular painting and
got to learn something new. Now let us move towards
the next painting.
10. Painting 5 - The House: Everybody, you're
most welcome to the fifth painting,
which is the house. As you can observe,
I'm ready with my watercolor paper with the masking tape on
all the four sides. I'll be using my Quill brush
of size two and we're going to apply a thin coat of
water on the entire surface. We are not having a sky area and the water body this time. We're only going to
paint the sky area. I'm applying a thin coat of water on the entire
watercolor surface. Just make sure that you
do not leave any space in between the water color
paper and the masking tape. Now we are going to take some
darker values of purple. Try to make a good composition of color and water together. Make sure that you have
less amount of water. In case you find that there
is axis amount of water, you can dab your brush to the tissue paper so that axis amount of water
will be removed. Now I'm starting from the
topmost portion and you can observe the way I'm
applying these strokes. It's a very random and natural
movement of the brush. So no need to worry
about painting it in the exact same way
I'm painting right now. While you're applying the color, you can leave some white space in between that will give you a nice cloudy effect once
the entire color dries up. Now I'm going to clean my
quill brush and we are going to take some nice darker
tone of cobald blue. Again, make a good composition of color and water together. Now start applying the color
from the bottom portion. Slowly move towards
the above area, and you can observe the way both the colors blend together. You can add these
little strokes in between both the colors using the tip of
your quill brush. No need to hurry
at all and try to paint it in a very slow
and steady manner. You will observe a nice
abstract sky area, which makes the entire
painting look really amazing. Now we are done with
the entire background, Let it dry for a while. Now I'll be taking my
quill brush of size zero and we are going to take some solid
black color in it. We are going to have some nice elements in the bottom area, starting from the plantation. Just apply these little strokes, combine them together, and form a beautiful organic outline. And then we are going to
have a nice house fill out. I'm going to paint two slant
lines combining together, forming a beautiful
roof structure. You can observe the movement of my hand applying
very less pressure. I have created two thin lines, and similarly, you have to
paint the walls as well. Similarly, we're going to add a nice building structure on
the right hand side as well, draw a simple horizontal line
and a building structure which is going to be a little bit smaller than
the first house. Now once we are done
with the entire outline, we are going to fill in solid black color in the
inner portion. No need to hurry at all. You can observe the way
I'm moving my quill brush. Just use the tip of your
quill brush to paint in difficult areas in case you find that your color
is getting finished. From the brush, you can
take some more color from the color palette and
cover the entire area. You can observe we have covered the entire sill out and it gives a nice house structure with some plants in
the left hand side. You can extend the roof
by using the tip of your quill brush to make the house look a little
bit more attractive, in case you find it a little bit difficult to paint the house and the plantation outline directly towards
your final painting. A little bit difficult. You
can definitely practice it on a rough scrape
of paper initially, and then you can come
towards your final painting. Now I'll be adding
a nice pine tree in the right hand side area. Just simply draw
a vertical line. Start applying these
little strokes from the topmost portion, slowly move towards
the bottom area by increasing the size of these little strokes
that you're making. It's a very easy and
simple technique of painting a pine tree also, it's a very satisfying
process you can observe. We added a nice element of sell out in the entire
landscape area. Now I'll be adding a nice street lamp on the
left hand side. It's a very simple
and easy technique. You just have to add a
vertical line first. You can add multiple strokes to make it a little bit thicker. Then we're going to
add a slant line on the topmost portion and
a semicircular shape, which is basically the light
on the topmost portion. To enhance the details in
the entire street lamp, you can add these little
horizontal strokes by using the tip of
your quill brush. You can observe how
beautiful the entire house and all the elements
looks together. You can enhance the details by using the tip of
your quill brush. I mean, you can give the
finishing in case you find that there is any space left in between
the black portion, you can apply the color again. I've added a little chimney on the right hand side roof to make the house look a little
bit more attractive. Now let us add some
nice plantation in the topmost portion as well. It is like basically
the branches of a tree or the entire bush
coming into the entire scenery. It's a very simple
and easy technique. I'm just going to add
these little strokes, combine them together to form a nice bush outline and then fill in solid black color
in the inner portion. While you're filling in solid black color in the
inner portion, just make sure that
there is no space left between the masking tape
and the watercolor paper. It will not look nice when
we remove the masking tape. Now, as you all know
that plants generally have a very natural
and organic shape. There is no specific
way of painting them. You don't have to worry
about painting it in the exact same way
I'm painting right now. You can create your
own composition. You can play with the
shape and sizes as well. You can also decide the
position of the plantation, and you can also experiment
with the entire scenery. Now I'm going to
add few more bushes on the top right corner. You can observe that
I'm starting by applying these random strokes. Only then we have fill
in solid black color in the entire inner portion to make the entire outline
look a little bit more specific and a little
bit more attractive. You just have to use the
tip of your quill brush carefully and just apply
these little strokes. Try to do this
particular step in a very slow and steady manner in case you find that your
color is finished. From the brush, you can take a little bit of more color in case you do not want to decrease the saturation of the
solid black color. Just dab your brush to the tissue paper so
that excess amount of water will be removed and you'll be having a nice
solid black color. You can observe how
beautiful this black sill out creates a nice contrast with the background
that we have painted. Just make sure that
while you're adding these bushes into
the entire scenery, you do not leave
any space between the masking tape and
the watercolor paper. It will not look nice when they remove the
entire masking tape. We are done with the
entire sell out. Now let us take some
solid white color and add few more details. In the same quill
brush of size zero, I have taken some good
amount of solid white color and simply paint a circular
shape to paint the sun. You can add a little bit of white color in the street
lamp light as well. You can enhance the chimney by adding a little bit of stroke. Now to paint the windows, it's a very simple
and easy technique. Apply very less
pressure on the brush. Use the tip of the brush
and paint a square shape. You can observe the solid
white color creates an eye contrast with
a solid black color. In order to make the house look a little bit
more attractive, we can add few more
rectangular shapes in the bottom area.
You can pair it. You can make a combination of two to three strokes together. Basically, you're
free to experiment. And you can experiment with the entire house
structure as well. You can add details according
to your convenience. Also, in case you're
not that much confident enough
to paint the house directly towards
your final painting, what you can do is you
can practice it on a rough scrape of
paper initially, then you can come towards
your final painting. Now I'll be taking
some solid black color in the same quill
brush of size zero. And we're going to
add few more details. In case you find that your brush is having axis amount of water, just simply dab it
onto the tissue paper. I have added a simple
vertical line in the squared that we
painted using white color. You can add the
vertical lines on the sides as well to
make a nice finishing. Similarly, I added one
more horizontal line. You can observe it
basically creates a nice frame structure
to the entire window, and the window looks a
little bit more aesthetic. You can add these
vertical lines in the details also that we
painted in the bottom area. Now you can observe how beautiful the entire
painting looks. Now let us remove the
entire masking tape from the watercolor paper. No need to hurry at all. Try to remove the
masking tape in an angle so that you do not end up tearing your beautiful painting. You can observe a
nice white border once I remove the
entire masking tape. Now let me take you a
little bit closer so that you can observe all
the details carefully. You can observe how
beautifully we have, combined all the
minimal elements together and formed
a beautiful scenery. I hope that you enjoyed creating this particular painting and
got to learn something new. Now let us move towards
the next painting.
11. Painting 6 - The Boats: Everybody, you're
most welcome to the sixth painting,
which is the boats. As you can observe,
I'm ready with my watercolor paper and the masking tape on
all the four sides. I'll be using a simple pencil
to draw a horizon line, which is basically a
simple horizontal line which separates the sky
area and the water body. Let's start by
painting the sky area. I'll be using my Quill
brush of size two. And you just have to apply
a thin coat of water on the entire surface. No
need to hurry at all. Try to apply an
even coat of water. Make sure that there
is no space left between the masking tape
and the watercolor paper. Now in the same quill brush, we are going to take some
darker tone of purple, try to make a good composition of water and color together. We're going to start by applying the color from the
topmost portion. Try to have more amount
of color and less water. You can observe the way
I'm making the strokes. In the entire watercolor paper, you can leave a little bit of white spaces in between
that will look really nice. When the entire colored dries, it gives a nice cloudy effect. It's a very random and natural
way of applying color. No need to worry
about perfection. Now, in the same Quill brush, take some good amount of
darker tone of cobaldlue, we're going to apply it just
above the horizon line. You can observe that slowly, I'm moving towards
the above area. No need to worry
about the blend. The colors will
automatically blend together because we have applied a
thin coat of water initially. Now you can slowly add
these little strokes by applying very less pressure and using the tip of
your quill brush. This basically creates
a nice abstract effect. And it gives a nice look of clouds in the entire bold sky. We are done with the
entire sky area. Now let us paint a beautiful
water body as well. I'll be taking some
darker tone of cobol blue and we're going to apply it
just below the horizon line. You can observe the
movement of my quill brush. And slowly you can
cover the entire area. Leave some white space
in the bottom portion, and take some darker
tone of purple. Now slowly blend both the colors together by moving towards
the above direction. No need to worry about these
random horizontal strokes. It looks really nice and
creates a nice wave effect. You can add these little
horizontal strokes using the tip of your
quill brush as well. In case you find that there is axis amount of water
in your brush, you can simply dab it onto the tissue paper to remove
axis amount of water. Now I'll be using my
Quill brush of size zero and we're going to paint some beautiful
mountain bodies. Just apply a simple
horizontal line on the horizon line and create a nice outline for
a mountain body. Mountains generally have a very natural and organic shape. There isn't any specific
way of painting them. You can create your
own composition of the mountain as well. Once you're done with
the entire outline, you have to fill in solid black color in the inner portion. No need to hurry at all. Try to paint it in a very
slow and steady manner. Make sure that there is
no space left in between. Also, make sure that you
do not leave any space between the masking tape
and the watercolor paper. Now in order to create
some depth and details, we're going to add few more
rock bodies and mountains. Just connect one more
mountain body on the sides in case you find that your color is getting
finished from the brush, you can definitely
take some more color from the color palette. We are also going to add few rock bodies in
the water area. You just have to
create the outline. You can have variation in the shape and size
of the rock bodies. And then you have
to fill in solid black color in the
inner portion. Now let us add two boats
in the water body. You just have to
create this nice shape of the entire boat, which is basically a front view. So there are going to be
two boats, basically, one is going to be a
little bit smaller, another one is going
to be a little bit bigger in the
center of the boat. You can add a vertical line to make the boat look a
little bit more aesthetic. Now I'm painting the
second boat which is a little bit bigger
in the perspective, it's basically in
the front portion. You can just increase the
size of the entire boat. You can also play with the
composition of the boats. You can decide the position. You can play with the
shape and sizes as well. Similarly, I'll be adding the vertical line to enhance the beauty of the entire boat. No need to hurry at all. Try to paint it in a very
slow and steady manner in case you find your
color is getting finished. From the brush, you can take some more color from
the color palette. Now to add the reflection
effect of the mountain bodies, you just have to add
these horizontal strokes. And as you move towards
the bottom area, just simply decrease the size of the strokes that
you're making. This basically creates
a nice depth to the entire mountains
and the rock bodies. We are adding it near the
horizon line as well. These are basically simple
horizontal strokes, which basically creates a
nice reflection effect. Also, you can observe
the movement of my hand. Try to keep your hand
very much loose and free. We are similarly going to add the reflection
effect of the boards onto the water body as well. You can observe
the way I'm making these horizontal strokes slowly as I'm moving towards
the bottom area. I'm simply decreasing the size of the horizontal
strokes that I'm making. While you're doing
this particular step, you have to keep a lot of patients and your hand should be very much
loose and free. Now to make the boat look a
little bit more aesthetic, I'm adding these vertical
lines in a slant way, which is basically replicating some ropes to enhance
the beauty of the boats. Basically, I'm adding
a little bit of rock body in the right
hand side corner. In the bottom portion as well, just create the outline first and then fill in
solid black color in the inner portion
in case you find painting the syllouts
directly towards your final painting a
little bit difficult, What you can do is you
can practice it on a rough scrape of
paper initially, and then you can come
towards your final painting. This will help you a lot to develop confidence
while painting, and the chances of making
mistakes will be very less. This will also help your lot to develop your hand movement. You can observe that by applying these little
black patches, we have created some
nice small rock bodies to enhance the entire
beauty of the scenery. And it also makes
the entire painting look a little bit
more aesthetic. You just have to use the
tip of your quill brush and paint these little
rock bodies carefully. Now I'll be taking some solid white color in the quill brush of size zero and we're going
to paint a beautiful sun. Or you can also
consider it as a moon. Just simply paint
a circular shape. No need to hurry at all. Take your time and paint a beautiful sun and we're done
with the entire painting. Now let us remove
the masking tape. No need to hurry at all. Try to remove the
masking tape in an angle so that you do not end up tearing your beautiful painting, and you can observe a nice
white border as well. This is one of the
most satisfying part of removing the masking tape. Let me take you a little
bit closer so that you can observe all the
details carefully. You can observe how combining minimal elements together we
formed a beautiful scenery. I hope that you enjoyed creating this
particular painting. Now let us move towards
the next painting.
12. Painting 7 - The Fence: Everybody, you're most welcome
to the seventh painting, which is the fence,
as you can observe. I'm ready with my
watercolor paper with the masking tape on
all the four sides. I'll be using a
simple pencil to draw a horizon line to suppress the sky area and the water body. I'll be using my Quill brush of size two to apply a
thin coat of water. No need to hurry at all. Try to apply an even coat of water and make sure that there is no space left between the masking tape and
the watercolor paper. This is basically known as
a wet on wet technique, in which we apply a thin
coat of water initially. And then the water colors
so that the colors can blend in an ice
way color palette. As you can observe, Micobal blue is a little bit finished. I'll be taking some bal blue
from the watercolor tube. Make a good composition of
color and water together. And start applying it
from the topmost portion, leaving some white
space in between. No need to hurry at all. You can observe the movement of my quill brush
carefully and slowly. We'll move towards
the horizon line, completing the entire sky area. You can take a little bit of darker tone using the
same quill brush, and you can apply
some nice strokes in between using the tip
of your quill brush. No need to worry about the
white spaces in between. It will give a
nice abstract look and it will also create
a nice cloudy effect. As you can observe,
we are almost done with the entire sky area. Now let the background
dry for a while. You can also add few darker tone of cobalt blue near
the horizon line. Now let us paint the
water body as well. I'll be applying a
thin coat of water, again, just below
the horizon line. No need to hurry at all. Try to apply an even coat of water and make
sure that there is no space left between the masking tape and
the water color paper. I'll be taking the same brush. Take some darker tone of
purple from the color palette. Make a good composition of
color and water together. Start applying it just below the horizon line and slowly
cover the entire area. In case you find that there is axis amount of water
in your brush, simply dab it onto
the tissue paper so that axis amount of
water will be removed. No need to worry about the
random horizontal strokes. It looks really nice
when it dries up. Now let us start
painting the elements. So I'll be taking some solid black color in the
color palette. Try to add a little bit of
water and color together. Make a good consistency of
water and color together. Make sure that you do not
have axis amount of water. Try to have more
color and less water. In case you have more amount
of water in your brush, just simply dab it
onto the tissue paper. So we're going to paint some
bushes on the topmost area. I'll be just adding these little strokes,
combine them together, and form an organic
outline which basically represents some nice leaves coming into the entire scenery. As you all know that
plants generally have a very natural and
organic shape, There is no specific
way of painting them. You can create your own
natural organic outline and then fill in solid
black color inside. Or you can create your own composition of the
leaves as well. You can carefully observe that I started from the left
hand portion slowly. I'm moving towards the
right hand side area. We have painted a
nice bushy element on the topmost portion. We can also increase a separate bush apart
from the topmost portion. I'll be just repeating
the same method. Just add these little
strokes and form a beautiful outline of a plantation coming inside
the entire scenery. And then you can fill in solid black color in the
inner portion. In case you want to make the leaves look a little
bit more attractive, you can use the tip of your quill brush and make it
a little bit more aesthetic. No need to hurry at all. Try to paint it in a very
slow and steady manner. Take your time and
keep your hand very much loose and free while
painting the bushes. Now let us add the main element which is going to be
a beautiful fence. I'll be adding a horizontal line using the same quill brush of size zero to make the horizontal line
a little bit thicker. You can apply multiple
strokes on it, apply very less pressure, and use the tip of
your quill brush. Now, once we have painted a
beautiful horizontal line, we are going to create a
landscape area just below that. You can simply create
a nice variation of a beautiful landscape
area by just increasing the size of the entire
horizontal line that we painted in
the middle portion. You can also create
the outline first and then fill in sordid black
color in the inner portion. That is also absolutely fine. Now we're going to paint
a beautiful fence. So I'll be adding a thin
horizontal line applying very less pressure and using the tip of micelle
brush of size zero. Once I have added a
nice horizontal line, we're going to add
few vertical lines which is going to be
in a nice pattern. Initially, we're going to add the vertical lines which are going to be a little bit thick. You can observe
I'm trying to have approximately same
distance between the thick vertical lines that
we are painting right now. Once we are done painting
the thick vertical lines, we're going to add thin
vertical lines in between them. This particular step will
require a lot of patience. And you have to keep your
hand very much free and calm. You just have to add
these thin vertical lines in between the thick
vertical lines. Just try to attach
the horizontal line with the landscape area that we have painted in
the bottom portion by these little vertical lines. It creates a nice aesthetic
to the entire painting. And the bridge looks a
little bit more attractive. You can observe we are done painting the entire
fence element. Now we're going to add some landscape area in
the bottom portion. Also, in case you
find that there is any space left in between
the solid black color, you can reapply
the color to make the landscape area look a little bit more in
detail, in depth. You can add these little
strokes just below that. Now we're going to add some more landscape area into
the water body. No need to hurry at all. Just create a nice black patch, having a nice variation
in shape and size. You all know that even
landscape area is a very natural and organic
shape that you find in nature. It is absolutely fine
if you want to create your own composition of a
landscape area as well, you can experiment with
the entire scenery. Also, I'll be adding a nice landscape area
in the bottom portion. Also, just create a
beautiful outline and then fill in solid black
color in the inner portion. No need to hurry at all. Try to paint it in a very slow
and steady manner. Make sure that there
is no space left between the watercolor
paper and the masking tape. We can also add few rock bodies near the landscape area
that we have painted. In the bottom portion,
you just have to use the tip of your quill brush and apply very less pressure to create these little
black patches in case you're not that much
confident enough to apply the landscape area directly
towards your final painting. What you can do is you
can practice it on a rough scrape of
paper initially, and then you can come
towards your final painting. This will help you a lot to develop confidence
while painting, and the chances of making
mistakes will be very less. Now I'll be taking
some solid white color in my quill brush of size zero. Just simply paint
a circular shape in the sky area
wherever you want to. And it is absolutely fine if you want to take it in
the center portion. Also, this basically
replicates a sun. You can also consider
it as a moon. That is absolutely fine. Now to create its
reflection effect, you have to use the
same quill brush and apply these little horizontal
strokes in the water body. As you move towards
the bottom area, simply decrease the size of the horizontal strokes
that you're making. No need to hurry at all. Try to do this particular step in a very slow and
steady manner. Keep your hand very
much free and lose, and we're done with
the entire painting. Now let us remove
the masking tape. No need to hurry at all. Try to remove the masking
tape in an angle so that you do not end up tearing
your beautiful painting. This is also one of the
most satisfying part, and you can observe
a nice wide border once we remove the
entire masking tape. Let me take you a little
bit closer so that you can observe all
the details carefully. You can observe that
using minimal elements, we created a nice painting. I hope that you enjoyed creating this particular painting and
got to learn something new. Now, let us move
towards the next part.
13. Class Conclusion: I personally believe
that anyone can paint. Art is something that brings me a lot of peace and happiness. There are a lot of possibilities
that you can explore, and the best part about art is that there
are no boundaries. Watercolors is a very versatile, artistic medium that
anyone can explore. While I was creating
this particular class, I remember I made any
number of mistakes. And that is something that
I always tell my students, never to be afraid
of making mistakes. Also, one thing
that I always tell my students is to maintain
an art journal in which you can keep a record of your artwork and practice
on a regular basis. I hope that this seven days art challenge of painting bold, beautiful skies,
will help you to develop a lot of confidence
with watercolors. I would be very excited to see all of your class projects
into the project gallery. In case you have any questions or doubts related to the class, feel free to ask them into
the discussion section. It would be really great if you leave a review for
the class as it encourages me and my class can reach many more
students like you. I'm really very happy to share this class
with all of you. I hope that from all the
seven beautiful paintings, you got to learn something
new and creative. The practice sheet will help you a lot to develop
confidence while painting. It will also help
you a lot to keep a record of your
artwork at the end. I would like to say keep
practicing, keep learning. Thank you so much for
