About This Class

Welcome to the second class of my Blue & Yellow Marathon I have created in support of Ukraine and the Ukrainian people.

During this marathon, I will be creating short classes with simple drawings in blue and yellow colors. Those will be mostly beginner-level closes as I want them to be suitable for as many students as possible.

Each class will be slightly different, the only thing that won’t change thought the whole marathon are the colors that we’ll be using. Those are the colors of the Ukrainian flag.

In the first class of our marathon, we have created a painting of a peace dove in blue and yellow colors using acrylics.

Today in our second class we’ll create a painting of a sunflower using watercolors and a pen. The sunflower has been Ukraine’s national flower for a long time. Now it is becoming a symbol of strength and resistance against the invasion by Russian forces.

Tools & Materials:

  • watercolors
  • watercolor paper
  • black pen
  • brush

1. Introduction: Hello, and thank you for joining me in the second class of our blue, yellow marathon. As many of you know, I come from Ukraine. This is where my home is and its place there. I always return to. Unfortunately, on 24th of February, Russia shutter to the piece in my Ukraine and in my hometown. I've spent two weeks agonizing over the horrors that's my country and my people have to go through. But in times like this, we become stronger and three come together to help people in need and fight for peace. In the description to this class, I will share all the helpful and important information and thinks this microphone is another small way to support Ukraine. It's important to use her voice now and show what we stand for. And art is one of the best ways to do it. This is how together we can make a difference. Every week, I will upload new class for you to turn. Those will be mostly beginner level drawings and paintings. As I want these classes to be suitable for as many students as possible. Each glass will be slightly different. We will be using various medium and subjects to draw. The only thing that won't change through the whole nerve phone is the color palette that we will be using, blue and teal. We have started our microphone by towing a piece TO blue and yellow colors using acrylics. If you miss this class, you can check it out. You will find the link in the description to this class. Today, in this class we will be creating something different using the same colors. We will create a drawing of a sunflower. Sunflowers has been Ukraine's national flower for a long time. Now it's becoming a symbol of strength and resistance against the invasion by Russian forces. And so that's why I chose to draw a sunflower in this class today. Please remember to share your project with us and on your social media. You can also share this class with your friends who wants to support your client as well. 2. Class Project: As I have already mentioned in the introduction to this class, your project is to create a drawing of a sunflower in blue and yellow colors. You can follow my lead. So we create this drawing together. Or you can draw inspiration from the Pinterest board with sunflowers I've created for you. You can create your own unique drawing. Finally, once again, not only I encourage you to share your project, but I'm also asking you to do so, which means this time sharing your creation is actually part of the project. Once your drawing is finished, go ahead and show it to the world. Uploaded here, posted on your social media. Use hashtags. Let the whole world see what you stand for. And if you join these protests in your city, your own throbbing and blue and yellow would become a perfect sign for it. Every voice counts. Every goal for bees in the grand world is important and every voice can make a difference. 3. Yellow: Let's start our watercolor painting of a sunflower with yellow watercolors. And then we will use blue water color for the stem and leaves of the flower. Although you can also start with blue, I didn't think it would make great results as well. If you feel like starting with blue watercolor first, go ahead and do it. I would love to see your take on this sunflower. Just load our brush with the yellow watercolor and we'll define our flower first. We're gonna keep it loose and simple, more abstract if you like. Because we are going to add details later on the last stage of our painting process when we will use band or in. For now, we're just going to create a delicate staying of yellow for our sunflower. You can keep it loose, an abstract or you can make it resemble a sunflower and define few petals here and there. Once it's done, I suggest you to let it dry completely so it doesn't mix with blue watercolor that we're gonna add. There are painting in the next lesson. 4. Blue: That are yellow watercolor is completely dry. Let's proceed and paint a stem and leaves of our sunflower. Same as we did in the previous lesson. We're going to keep it loose and simple. We will adjust the stain of blue color. Needless to say, this painting is going to be probably one of the easiest of all that we will create in this microphone. Mostly because of the colors help us keep our painting delicate and intuitive. Yet we will complete it with more controlled and dynamic pen lines later. The aesthetics of these combination of delicate and dynamic, I think resonates the most with the WhatsApp the flower represents today. Once joyful and lively. Now with this flower is a symbol of strength and resistance. You can add few last details to your painting before you that your watercolors dry completely. And then let's proceed to the next and final stage. There we will add pen lines on top of it. 5. Black Pen: Now we can finally add more details and turn our upstroke particular rush into a complete painting of a sunflower. Now you can use ink or regular black pen. Basically drove SM58 over the watercolors. Here I have prepared a Pinterest board with some of the Buddha sunflower land drawings just in case if you want to draw some more inspiration for your painting. Now you can simply draw yourself hover detail by detail, or you can create a continuous line. I have decided to start with one-line drawing to add the last details later after that. By doing so, I want to make this drawing more Bolton dynamic. As you draw your sunflower, make sure your line work and your watercolors work together and complete each other into one beautiful painting. Now, I'm adding details to my song father, and I will see you in the final lesson of this class. 6. Final Thoughts: Thank you once again for joining me today and being a part of this important journey. Not only we have created a drawing of a sunflower, but we have also came together to make a statement for peace, support Ukraine in this horrific unprovoked war. And show the world that we stand for. Please don't forget to share your drawing here and on your social media. This will help us to raise awareness about the war in Ukraine. If you want to help even more, there are tons of ways you can do it. In the description to this class, you will find the link to support your create now a website there you will find a list of verified the nation and other helpful links. If you're able and considering the latent to the charities, you can choose among supplies for the military, humanitarian help or animals and more. You can join peaceful protests in your city and the repetitions send humanitarian help. Hosts, Ukrainians who lost their homes in this war and much more. Including your posts on your social media. You can post your drawing that you have created in this class today. You can also support me on Patreon. I will get back to posting there more often, as soon as it will be possible. There you can get exclusive content. And by supporting me on Patreon, you will be supporting Ukraine as well. As I donate the part of the proceeds. Ukrainian organizations. That's why I would appreciate it if you would also share this class with your fellow students and friends who also might like taken this class and supporting Ukraine at the same time.
