2. 2.Materials: Types of Beads: Hello to all of
my dear students, and welcome to beaded
jewelry making course. The most important materials for working this kind of
jewelry are the beads. They have different kinds, but now I'm going to introduce to you three kinds of them. Well, first of them are pearls. Second ones are
crystal Rundle beads, and the third ones
are seed beads. Now I'm going to explain
them to you one by one. As you can see, crystals have just different shapes
and different colors. A different sizes. For instance, I have three black crystal
Rondel beads here. Size number four,
size number six, and size number eight. You see, crystal sizes are measured in millimeters
and by length of them. It means that
crystal number four is four millimeter length. Size 66 millimeter and size
eight is 8 millimeters. This one is size number one. And for each tutorial, I will tell you which kind of beads at what sizes
would you need them. Crystals come in
different shapes, but we only work with the
Rundle shape in this course. They also have different
wide range of colors. We have silver, gold, or fantasy colors like these
ones that we've got here. You see, we have mate crystals or transparent or
glass like ones. It definitely totally
depends on your taste that you prefer the opaque or
the transparent ones, but I prefer the opaque
crystals because they make the finished
piece pop more. So it was 16 and three, four sizes as well. So now I've introduced to
you the crystals that I told you about their different
shapes, colors, and sizes. They can also come
in even a two tone, like one side is mass and the other side is
transparent. You see? When I turn it, it
would be different. So it depends on what
you're going to make. The second kind of
beads are pearls. You know, pearls are
just like the crysts. They come in
different shapes and different colors and
different sizes. Now I've got three size
of my white pearls, four, six, and size 12. They have white, milky colors, and other shades
are also available. They also have different, you know, shapes like this
one looks like a wet. They have silver,
gold, and navy blue. This is a stone. This is actually
a hematite stone. Okay, and now we
have the seed beads. First of all, I'm going to tell you about
different kinds of seed beads based on their
shape and appearance. The seed beads also
have different shapes, but two of the
most common shapes are around and cylinder. These yellow ones are
round seed beads, and the gold ones are cylinder seed beads with flat top and bottom,
as you can see. And the beads actually be placed on top of each
other completely. So we have round seed beds
and cylinder seed beds. This cylinder seed bed that you see here is
actually ki brand. Niki brand is made in Japan. It's the highest quality
set beds in the world. They're very uniform,
white color range, and excellent color fastness. And they're available in both
round and cylinder shapes. Now, I'm actually introducing the brands of these
seed beds to you by being the most
well known brands from the highest to
the lowest quality. This is the highest one, Muki. And then the second
set bed is hoho. It's also made in Japan. It's excellent in quality. The holes of two *** seed beads are bigger than the
other seed beads. But it's also available in both round and cylinder shapes. The fourth seed
bead that I want to introduce to you is
the check seed bead. It obviously has been made in Czech country, Czech Republic. They are almost uniform,
not completely, and I really suggested to you for the beginning
of your works. And actually, only metallic
colors of this brand may lack durability and the color would just fade off by the time. Okay. The next brand is matsuno. Matsuno is also made in Japan. Well, the uniformity
of this is slightly less than Muki Brand
and also check brand. It has weaker color durability, and also in this brand, the metallic colors will
just fade off by time. And then the next one, we have Chinese brands
of our seed beads. The seed beds, which are Chinese have actually
three grades, grade A, grade B, and grade C. Grade A
is like the FGB brand. These silver ones that I've
got here are FGB brand. The color durability
is not that strong. It can be fade off by time. You can say they
are almost uniform. They have a reasonable quality, and it's good for the
beginning of your work. You can start with these ones. The great C seed bids that
is not recommended at all, even for the beginners, I'm going to show
them to you so you'd see them just for you to know. And if you see it in the market, don't go near them.
It's these ones. See, first of all, from
an appearance shape, you see, they are terrible. They're not coherence at all. They're not uniform at all. They are big and small
in different shapes, and the durability of
their color is terrible. You see how ununiform they are? And specifically because
the beaded jewelry art is very sensitive and delicate. If you use these ones, it can actually
show in your work in consistent shapes
and low quality. So it's better to choose from other brands and do not get the Chinese seat
beads great scene. Okay. Now, in each
one of these boxes, we can contain 10
grams of seed beads. Seed beads are usually
sold by weight. Just to give you
a mental image of what that amount looks like, each one of these boxes can include 10 grams of seed beads. And about the sizes
of our seed beds. They have different
sizes, obviously. As I told you in crystals
in crystal Rundle beats, I told you as much as
they grow in size, actually, they grow in number, the size also increases. But in seedbeds we have actually the
reverse of this thing. It means that as
the size goes up, actual size of the seed
beds will go smaller. The set bids that we need for our jewelry are sizes 11 or ten. The smaller sizes, I mean, six, seven, eight, even nine. For these ones, the set
bids are actually much bigger and they're
not good for jewelry. So for most jewelry designs, we usually use size ten or eve. In the beginning of tutorial
of each one of these, I will tell you that
which material and which bits with
which size you need. Okay? In general, we are
using sizes ten and 11. The color is totally
on your own taste, and I told you also
about the brands that which ones you can get
and are better for you. Some of them are more expensive and if you
cannot afford them, you can do the cheaper ones, even the FGB ones
for the beginning. And obviously, there
are C beds with other different brands
that you can acquire. Just make sure that they
have color stability, and they would be
cohesive and uniformed.
3. 3.Materials: Types of Threads: Alright. Now, if you want
our work to be softer, use nylon thread or silk thread. But if you want our work to be more rigid and it
would be firmer, like this bracelet
you can see here, we use the invisible
monofilament thread or the fire line thread. When you're working
with seed beads, you need a four pound
fire line thread. The crystal color is suitable. But if you're using crystal Rundle beads
in your work as well, you need a six pound
fire line thread. And if you wanted to use the invisible
monofilament thread, the size 0.15 millimeter
for seed bead, and the size 0.3 millimeters for bigger beads like
crystal Rondel bead or artificial pearls, which are suitable for each other because the bigger
beads have bigger holes, and obviously they
need thicker threads. You should also know that the fire line thread
is much more steadier and stronger and even more professional comparing
to monofilament thread. But you see this
bracelet is soft. So for this soft bracelet, we use silk thread
or Nylon thread, which gives us a softer
and more flexible work. Now, nylon threads
are in these brands, Sloan Nimo Ko one G, and Muki are very good
threads that you can use. And for silk threads, idle and silk which is made in America is a
very good thread, and Griffin silk
thread is a German. So each one of them you can acquire and use them
in your beading. For working with set
beads size ten or 11, your nylon thread or the
silk thread should be in the size of almost
0.2 millimeters. I mean, the thickness
of the thread should be almost 0.2 millimeters. Now, silk threads are
usually not waxed. So for easier use, it wouldn't just get
knotted during your work, and you can work with it
easier or your thread wouldn't get torn apart or be
shredded during your work. It's better if you
apply the bees wax or thread wax yourselves and then apply them to your threads. The most common thing
is obviously bees wax. You can basically fly
it on your thread, and this actually makes your thread more
resistant to abrasions. I also makes your thread
more softer and smoother. You can also use thread heaven. Which is an artificial
and clear wax. And it doesn't get your
thread just like greasy. So acquire each one of these
that you can or any other wax that you're able to get
and apply it to your thread, so your thread would
be a wax thread. And we also need some needles and needles for
beading, obviously. This is a needle pack that
it has six needles in it. I got out two of them, and the sizes are 10-12. So we need beading needles in
the size of ten, 11 and 12. Size 11 is thinner
than size ten, and 12 is even
thinner than size 11. You want to know and learn about beading and working
with seed beads, you can definitely use very different
accessories in them. For example, eyeglasses holder
or eyeglass as a strap, or you can even create
bobby pins and hair pins. You can get these raw materials, but you can actually design them and decorate
them with your septs. Or, for example, you
get these eyeglasses chain connector and make a
beaded eyeglasses chain. And then the chains are here. As you can see, also,
the chains have different shapes and
different kinds. See this other chain. This is a steel chain
that has ametss stones. And all these chains are steel. They have a stable color. This is another type of chain. And obviously, based
on your own taste, you can acquire silver
or gold chains. These are extender chains that you can use them in
your necklaces or bracelets. An extender chain is actually the chain which is
going to be, you know, sticking to another bracelet
or another necklace, and our lock is actually will
go into it and you can use it in order to
make your bracelet or necklace shorter or longer. You can buy it all prepared with the clasp attached to it, or you can buy it by the meter, and then you can
cut it yourselves. You should pay
attention to see if the extender chain
has bigger rings, so the lock would actually
go inside them easier. For example, you cannot use this smaller chain as
an extender chain. In this bracelet,
this chain that is attached to it is
an extender chain, and you can determine the size of your bracelet with
placing your lock in it. We have three main types
of earring findings. This is the first type
of earring clasp that we call it fish hook earring
or earring hooks. The second type is a hoop
earring clasp like this one. You see, it has a
ring over here. The earring that we make
is attached to this ring. And the third kind is the earring post that you definitely are
familiar with them. You see, it has a
ring over here. The earring that we make
is attached to this ring, and then from here, it gets onto the ear, and then we put the
back and lock it. So these are three types of earring clasps that if
you want to get these, should definitely get
the steel texture. So it would not have
any allergic reactions and the color wouldn't change.
4. 4.Materials: Types of Clasps: And now I'm going to tell you about the different
claps that we can use for our
necklaces or bracelets. We call them toggle claps, one side of the necklace or the bracelet
attaches to this part. The other side would
be to this ring. And it goes inside of each
other and it would be locked. Okay? And we will learn how to work with it
later completely. As you can see, we can have different toggle clasps
here in different shapes, I mean, they can be like a ring, a heart, a flower. And if you weren't able
to buy any toggle clasps, you can use your wires
and create one yourself. In the advanced
jewelry making course, you learn how to create and
make this clasp with wire. The next one is obviously
a lobster class. And of course, a magnetic clasp. As you can see, it's like a
cylinder with an empty part. These kinds of clasps are
used for spiral bracelets. Be on both sides, it has a hollow cylinder, we can use a glue and
attach them together. This was the magnetic class. This is a multi strand clasp that you're watching here and it's used for more
wider bracelets. This is also magnetic, but it goes inside
of each other. So we call this a
multi strand class. These also have
different length, and they depend on the
width of your bracelet. On both sides of it, it has some rings that
through these rings, it would be attached
to our bracelet. For example, you can look at this white bracelet
I've got here, and I've attached
it to these rings, and I can seal the lock. So it's both magnetic and
they go into each other. And as you can see, I've used some threads to attach my
bracelet to these rings. And this is a slider
clasps that is also used for wider bracelets. One end of the bracelet would be attached to one of them and the other end
to the other one. The bracelet would go
inside from this part, and then its door would be
closed, it's lid actually. These also have
different length, and they depend on the
width of your bracelet. So for example, if the
width of your bracelet, this part would
be 2 centimeters, you should use a slider clasps as a length of 2 centimeters. The usage of these
multi strander clasps and slider clasps are almost the same and are more suitable
for wider bracelets. Then we will learn how to work
with them later together. We can even use our wires to create some kind of clasps
for our own bracelets. As I told you before, the wires are very useful
in beading jewelries. In the advanced
jewelry making course, you learn how to create and
make this clasp with wire. Another kind of
clasps that is very useful in necklaces
and bracelets is spring ring clasps actually the strongest
clasp we can have. Okay, we have two kinds
of spring ring clasps. One of them is simple like this, and the other kind,
as you can see, has three rings on it. These rings are actually
stuck on this class. And once its use, actually the use
is like right now, like the necklaces that I've got here for the time
that I want to use it for the front of
the necklace and I want to attach a charm to it. And these rings on this
class are actually stopping this charm to get away or
move away or even come out. For example, if I want to
attach a charm into this one, because it doesn't
have any rings on it, if I open it, the charm could easily fall off. So based on what you
want to create and beat, you can choose your
spring ring clasp. So if you don't want
to use a charm, the simple one is okay. But if you want to
attach a charm, it's better to use
this kind of clasps. If you want to be able
to change your charm regularly and each time
you use a different charm, you can put the charm here. Oh the spring ring clasp and the lobster clasp are stronger than toggle clasp
and multi strand clasp. Now, as you can see,
we have two kinds of adjustable sliding clasp. They're either made out
of hemp and steel ones. And the steel kind of it has
both gold and silver colors. And then with this ending part, it gets right glacio and
it's smaller or bigger. And now the jewelry making glue? And this kind of glue is
used for attaching and sticking the beads to
the metals or wires. For example, look at
this spiral bracelet, and for attaching it to
this magnetic clasp, I'm actually going to
use this E 8,000 glue. Or, for example, for
sticking the set beads to our raw body pins or hairpins. This is jumping. We opened jumping with the
help of two players like this. And we use it to
attach two things together like attaching the
earring hoop to the earring. You can also use this jumping opener
instead of two pliers. And just like that, we can open and close the jumping
with one plier. And obviously, our
work would be faster. This was our material
introduction for you. And in the end,
you don't need to just acquire all of
these materials. You don't have to buy them. And of course, the way you can use this course to its best. Well, actually, I recommend
to you that once you just watch this whole course from the beginning to
the end, only watch. Without beading anything or
without creating anything. So that theoretically,
your mind gets used to this set and this
mindset of our work. And then after that,
you'll get a hint of things like which
materials do you need? Which ones do you have to acquire and which
ones you don't. And then watch it
again and this time, start working with me. I mean, you do it exactly
the way I'm doing it, and at the same time, whenever
it was necessary for you, just pause the video
and get to that point. Actually, I've tried to
pick up the works that each one of them has
a unique hint to it. So all of these
works and products are not chosen
without any purpose. And all of them are scheduled, planned and picked
with a purpose. Each one of the bracelets
or necklaces has a specific hint to it and
wants to teach you something. So you shouldn't think that the works are similar
to each other, and if you watch only
two or three of them, you can do the rest of them. Each one of them have
their specific hints. So wherever you have any
questions or any problems, just take some
notes and don't be afraid to ask me in the
comments, and good luck.
