1. Introduction and Supplies You Will Need: Hi friends, how are you? I hope you're having a great day today. I'm excited about sharing this project with you. This is a drawing and watercolor painting project that I designed especially for kids. Students do not need to have any drawing or painting experience at all to be successful with this project. I will guide students step by step through all the steps that they need to take. Today we are going to be creating these beautiful point flowers. Let's talk about the supplies and the materials that you will need for this project. The first thing that you'll need is a sheet of watercolor paper. You will need a set of watercolor paints and a paintbrush. I like to use this size paintbrush, but just use what you have available to you. You will need a cup or able with clean water. You will need three different colors of oil, pastels or crayons. You will need red, yellow, and green. Then you will also need a handy dandy paper towel. Go ahead and gather all of those supplies and materials. And I'll see you back here in the next video. 2. Step 1: Draw Poinsettia Flowers: In this step, we are going to draw our point set of flowers. Let's get started. Go ahead and pick up your yellow oil pastel or crayon. What we're going to do is we are going to make a bunch of circles. For each point of flower, you get to decide how many circles you'd like to make. I'm going to start right here and I'm just going to start making some circles and they're going to be attached to each other. I'm going to go like this. They don't have to be perfect though. One could maybe be like this. That's fine. So this is going to be the center of my first point. Tia flower and my flowers are going to be fairly large on my piece of paper. They're not going to be tiny, so we want the center parts to be pretty large. I'm going to make another group of circles here that maybe I'll add a couple more to this one so it's a little bit bigger. Sometimes I change my mind on things and I go back and I change them. And that's fine. When you're doing art, you can do whatever you want. That's the neat thing about it, right? Okay. Add a few more here, one here. Now I have all of my centers of my flowers. If you feel like you can fit another group of circles on your piece of paper, you can go ahead and do that if you'd like. I'm finished, so I'm going to set down my oil pestel and I'm going to pick up my red oil pastel. Now, there's something that you need to know about red oil pastels. Not red crayons so much, but the red oil pastel, they get really, really smeary if you touch them. Be careful. If you set your hand on a red oil pastel, it might smear around. Just be aware of that. Okay? All right. So let's make some curved lines to make those petals for our point Tia. And we're going to actually touch our bunches of circles. So we're going to make these petals very big. They're just curve lines coming out and then curve lines coming in. I'm touching these circles. Oop, that one went off the piece of paper. That's fine. All right, and I'm going to do the same over here. If I run into this petal right here, I'm just going to jump over it. Let me show you what I mean. If I have a really big petal here, and then I want another one here. I jump over and then I come back down like that. It looks like this petal is behind this petal. Do the same here. Look at how big I'm making these. They're giant. Oh, I went off the piece of paper, come back on like this. Do the same thing here. Now that we have our flower set on our piece of paper, we're going to go back onto each flower, we're going to add one more petal that peaks out from behind of each of the initial petals. I'm going to come out like this. It looks like there's a petal here in the front, and then there's a petal in the back, and that's just going to be curved lines coming out like that. Okay. It looks like they're behind those initial petals. Good, that one's done. They don't have to be perfect. You know how petals are. They're not perfect. Sometimes they're perfect and they're not perfect. I think I got all of them. Okay, awesome. The next thing that we're going to do is we're going to pick up our green oil pastel with our green oil pastel. We're just going to be filling in some space. Let's say we have some space here that needs to be filled in. I'm going to put a small leaf. Going to put a leaf here. I'm going to put a leaf anywhere that I see needs a little bit of detail. I'm just going to add some green. Okay, I can even add some over here. Picking out from the end or the. I'll add some here. It's really up to you where you'd like to add these leaves. I like to add them all over so that my piece of paper is really full with leaves and flowers. That's the look that I like. But you get to choose what you'd like to do. Just put a leaf wherever you feel like it would look good. Take a moment to take a look at your artwork. If there's anything else that you'd like to add, go ahead and add it. Now, when we come back, we will start painting our design. 3. Step 2: Paint the Design: In this step, we are going to start painting our point stia flower design. Let's get started. The first thing that I'm going to do is I am going to start painting these yellow circles. And I'm going to take my time because I want to do a really good job painting them. I'm just going to paint with a really strong yellow. That means I have more paint than water. Because I want that color to be really strong. Now that I'm finished painting the center of my point stia flower, I'm going to move on to the petals and I'm going to paint those red a bright red. So I'm going to go ahead and do that. The next thing I'm going to do is start painting my leaves. All righty friends, I'm finished painting the leaves and these spaces right here that do not have paint on them. I'm going to leave them white because I like how it helps the leaves and the Pointtia flowers to stand out. If you'd like to paint these small spaces that don't have flowers or leaves, you can go ahead and do that. You can do that at this point. I'm finished. I love the way that my artwork looks. I hope that you had a lot of fun with this project. I will see you next time.
