1. Introduction and Supplies You Will Need: Hi friends, how are you? I hope you're having a great day today. I'm excited about sharing this project with you. This is a drawing and watercolor painting project that I designed especially for kids. Students do not need to have any drawing or painting experience at all to be successful with this project. I will guide students step by step through all the steps that they need to take today. We are going to create this rainbow that is shining down on a pot of gold. I hope that you have a lot of fun with this project. Let's get started. Let's talk about the supplies and the materials that you will need for this project. The first thing that you'll need is a sheet of watercolor paper. You will need a set of watercolor paints and a paint brush. You will also need a cop, orable with clean water and a yellow oil pastel or crayon. And a black oil pastel or crayon. You'll also need a paper towel. Go ahead and gather all of those supplies and materials, and I'll see you back here in the next video. 2. Step 1: Draw a Pot O' Gold Design: In this step, we are going to draw our pot of gold design. Let's get started. Go ahead and pick up your black oil passed out. We're going to go a little bit below halfway up our piece of paper. This is my halfway mark. We're going to come a little bit down from that. We're going to make a really wide curved line. Now we're going to make a slanted line coming in on each side. Then we're going to make an upside down letter C, down here at the bottom. And we're going to connect these two lines like this. This is going to be our pot for our gold. If you have room down here at the bottom, you can even add some small legs. If you don't have room, that's okay. If you'd like to create some handles, we can put those on the side. There we go. This is going to be our black pot. Now let's make some gold inside of our black pot. What we're going to do is we are going to make some coins, and I'm just going to start making a bunch of circles like this. It's okay if they touch each other. Now that we've created our pot and our gold, let's create something down here for the bottom underneath our pot. I'm just going to make a line. Not a straight line, but a line where I can put some grass so that my pot is sitting on some grass. All right, now that we have our gold, our pot and our grass down here at the bottom. Let's keep in mind that we're going to paint this section right here with a rainbow. We can add something else into the sky. We can maybe add a few clouds. I'm going to add a cloud here, But I'm definitely not going to go into this space right here, because there's going to be a really beautiful rainbow. Okay, You can add another cloud over here, maybe one even here. All right. You friends, I think I'm finished with using my black oil pastel and my yellow oil pastel. When we come back, we will start painting our design. 3. Step 2: Paint a Rainbow: In this step, we are going to apply some watercolor paints to our design. Let's get started. The first thing that we're going to do is we are going to add one or two drops of water into each of our pans of paint. What this will do is it will soften up our paint a little bit so that our paints are easier for us to use. I really do encourage my students to take this step because it does help. There we go. Now that our paints are softening up, let's turn our attention to our design. Here we have some clouds in the sky. We have a big space right here for our rainbow. Then we also have some gold in our pot, and we have some grass down here at the bottom. All right, the first thing that we're going to do is we are going to paint the gold. We're going to paint the gold yellow. I'm just going to go ahead and paint coins yellow. Then if there are any spaces that I need to fill in, I'm going to go ahead and just fill those spaces in. If all the spaces aren't filled in, that's okay. Here we go. All right, now that we have our gold filled in, what we're going to do next is we're going to create our rainbow. All right. As we know, the colors of the rainbow are red, orange, yellow, green, blue, and violet. Your colors might look a little bit different from mine, but just use what you have available to you. Now that we have our gold painted, let's move on to painting our rainbow. As we know, the colors of the rainbow are red, orange, yellow, green, blue, and violet. Your colors might look a little bit different than mine, your paint colors, but just use what you have available to you. We're going to make about an inch thick of a stripe of each color that's maybe about 2 centimeters thick. We're just going to start with red coming up to the corner of our piece of paper in a curve. Then attached to the red, we are going to make an orange stripe. And those colors will probably blend in a little bit together. And that's okay. That's just how rainbows look, right? They are not separated, the colors are not separated. So we're going to start here and make a red stripe. Now we're going to move to orange, and we're going to touch the red a little. They're going to blend in. Have you ever seen a real rainbow in real life? The colors blend in a little bit. Right now, let's move to yellow. Oh, I ran out there. If some of your stripes are thicker or thinner than others, that's okay. Okay, so we have red, orange. Illo now let's try the green. Now, let's move to blue now, let's move to violet. There we go. As you can see, my colors are touching one another. So they're blending and mixing in together. And that's exactly what we'd like to see. When we come back, we will start painting our background. 4. Step 3: Paint the Background: In this step, we are going to apply watercolor paint to our background. Let's get started. We're going to apply paint to this part of the sky, in this part of the sky and the grass down here at the bottom. We are not going to paint the pot in this step. We will wait until the next step to paint the pot. Okay, let's get started on painting the background. I'm going to paint my background sky blue and my grass green. I'm going to start with my green down here at the bottom. Alrighty, I finished painting the grass, now I'm going to move to painting the sky. I'd like it to be a little bit of a lighter blue. I'm going to make sure that I add more water and less paint. I am going to speed up this video a little bit. You can watch me paint. All right friends, I'm finished painting the sky and the grass. In the next step, we will be painting the pot. 5. Step 4: Paint the Pot: In this step, we are going to paint our pot. Let's get started. Let's create some black paint. The reason why we are painting the pot last is because it's going to be black. Black is a very powerful and strong paint color. We want to make sure that we paint the pot because it will muddy the water. This black paint will muddy up the water. All right. Just a little bit of water and a little bit of black paint mixed together. I like my black paint to be a little bit more of a gray. But you can go either lighter or darker with your black, like mine to be a little bit darker. If you like a darker color, then you add more paint. If you'd like a lighter color, then you add more water than paint. I'm going to try to stay in those lines. All righty friends, I'm finished painting my pot black and my artwork is finished. I hope that you had a lot of fun with this project. I will see you next time.
