1. Class Description: Hello and welcome to this class. My name is Heidi, and today
I will be guiding you to the exciting discovery of H. We are going to be making
together a simple, beautiful card that
you can use to give to someone else or
to keep to yourself, to put into your walls in
your home or in your desk. This is a very, very
versatile medium to use. And you will discover
along with me, how easy it is to work with
this beautiful medium, to create cards or paintings. And remember, you can
follow me here on a skill chat so you
don't miss any update, any new class that I
want to share with you. I hope you are
excited to just wash if it is the first time
you will discover, if you like this medium. And I hope to share
that with me in the common section for this
class down on this video. I will see you in the
next video and we are going to be discussing
about the supplies.
2. Supplies: Let's see the
supplies that we are going to be using
during this class. Brushes, Drum brushes
in the smaller sizes, and flat brushes in a
medium or small size. Depending on the size of
the paper you're using. A cling towel, we are going to be writing on top
of of the painting. We need a permanent marker. I am using this
one with fine tip. I recommend you to
use a similar one. I am tracing some
sketches for that. I'm using my
watercolor pencil and a piece of paper to do
the color chart to dry or colors before we start
painting clean water to clean or brushes a
mixing pan for colors. I'm using acrylic wash. You can use the traditional wash that is diluted in water. This one is permanent, meaning it doesn't fade away or mix with
the other colors. When you paint on top, the color sin using are white, red and yellow, very basic. You can use any color you want. I have a watercolor
paper called press and I fix this one on a cardboard
to protect the surface.
3. Gouache Color Chart: Time to make our color hat. I have here my mixing pan. And I will start with the
color red to try and play with this beautiful color and this beautiful medium which
is a little bit more thick. When you're using water color, I need to be careful because this acrylic wash get
dry very, very easy. I don't want to waste material, I'm just putting a
little bit to try the thickness and the
color that I want to try. First, let's see how
thick it is, is. And I am using the flat brush. I want this red to be very bright before applying or
using another of the colors. Okay, now I am
cleaning my brush, and then I will start
with the next color. But I want to make you aware that my other class about wash, you can dive deeper
on this medium. That class I explain
more in depth about the types of
wash that you can use, other techniques that you can apply while using this
fabulous with this medium. And you can check the link I put in the description
box for this class. Back to the color
chart for this class. Now I am apply the lemon yellow. This is a very bright
and beautiful color that make a beautiful
contrast with my red. We are going to be
trying this one with my clean brush without
applying any water. We are just taking the color as it is and going
direct on the paper. We want to create the most dry texture on or
Tq texture on this painting. That is why we are not diluting or wash. We can do that if we need to move the color
around the paper as I am doing here on the side
of the color chart. What we want to do is
to mix the two colors. To create a blending between
the yellow and the red. For that, I just took a
little bit of the red apply direct on to the yellow color that I was mixing on the paper. As you can see now it is
a very bright orange. And this is what we
are going to be doing on or painting as a background. We want this to be
very bold and happy and sending a very
joyful message. We want the colors to
be super bright white. We are not adding it
because of what is white. And we are going to
see it in or painting, see how beautiful these
colors are looking. And I like the thickness. I will say you in
the next video.
4. Tracing The Speech Bubble: Here are some ideas of how
to paint your speech bubble. I am choosing one
below the hair shape. I will be tracing this one
with my watercolor pencil. I have here my paper
fixed on the cardboard. And I have a ruler and I will
proceed to paint that one that is more
rectangular with edges. It look, the round things
make things look more cute. I am choosing that style here because we want to
convey a love message. We don't want hard
edges for that. You can choose any one of the
shapes that I showed you at the beginning and make your
own style of a speech bugle. This is just to have an
idea on where to trace, where to place my gage. When I start to paint, I will start to paint this
one with the red color. And I am here just
erasing a little bit the line so I can make the round shapes to connect
with the sign of speech. In the next video, we
are going to start painting or love bubble message and get ready with your red color or whichever color you
choose for your painting. I will continue making
the round edges. When I am ready, start painting with the wash.
See you in the next video.
5. Painting the Speech Bubble with Red Gouache: Starting by painting
the speech bubble with the red color
in my flat brush. Here we are going
just to fill up the center of the speech bubble. Minding the lines,
we keep the shape of the speech bubble and the
round edges go slowly. If you need more color, just pick up more
color with your brush. Remember to use only
the wash without water. Here, a trick for you. If you need more comfortable
way to paint, just turn around your
paper and go with it. Don't hesitate to make
your creative process a comfortable one for
yourself because it makes things
easier and enjoyable. If you need to turn your paper around, just turn it around. It is not a problem. Pick up more color
and mind the lines and shaping your bubble. Any type that you
choose to paint is very fine and if you have an idea, just go with your creativity
is very important when you are creating and then just filling up this
space with the red color and maintaining the
thickness of the wash. I create a surface for applying another color on
top, which is the white. We are going to be making some had shapes on the middle in. This is the message
of this card. Just try to keep it as thick and bright and covered as you can. When we have our rectangle, in this case, fill
up with color, we are changing
our brushes using a round brush to then paint
this little hack here, or the speech sign. Because it's easier for
us to use a small brush, we are just going to be creating this speech bubble with brushes, then correcting if we need
to correction lines or make it bigger or
round on the edges, looking for spaces where
the color doesn't seem to be completely fill up
and adding more color. Like here I am making the
rectangle a little bit more pronounced than my speech
bubble sine under. Going around very carefully, maintaining the symmetry
of my painting. Looking for those spaces
where the color is not so cohesive and harmonic. Just going with my brush, keeping an eye on all the lines. Next we are going to be painting
the background for that. We don't need this to
be completely dry. It is okay if it
doesn't dry completely. And I think we are almost done. If you feel ready
for the next step, then I will see you
in the next video.
6. Painting the Background with Gouache: To paint the background, we are using the yellow, lemon or flat brush. I'm adding more color
because we might need more wash to cover the whole background
of this speech bubble. Make sure my brush is dry and starting on
the upper side of my bubble speech bubble. With my dry brush and dry gh, I will make the apply
the fierce layer. Then I will just wet my
brush a little bit on water to move this color
easily onto my paper. Depending on the type
of wash you are using, it can be easier or a little bit too hard
to move the color. For that, I am using a
little bit of water, not wetting this completely, but just wetting the brush
to move the color around. Because it made
it easier for us, the color looks bright and
covers the whole surface. Keep doing this until all the background is
covered with a second color. Please keep the
bubble on each shape, meaning don't mix the
two colors just yet. Mind the lines in the shape. Keep doing this until you have all the white space
covered with second color. In this case genus in
yellow, it is okay. It's okay if I am moving this a little bit of red that
went into my brush, because next we are going to
be mixing these two colors. Now I will change
my brushes because I paint the red bubble
with another flat brush. Now I taking that
again because I didn't clean that point
purpose on purpose, I will just continue using the rest of wash
that was still on this flat brush and creating the background
in this orange. Mixing the yellow and red. And then applying water to move and to dilute a
little bit the pigment. And to get that orange
color that I want. For that, this is necessary
that the yellow is still wet. Do this quickly if you want
to get the orange correctly. If you don't have
to flat brushes, just when you finish
painting with the yellow, just pick up a little bit of
the red color and go through the surface or the whole
background with your brush. Mixing the colors with water
colors mixed together, you get the beautiful and a smooth background
that you like. Making some highlights and getting your color move
around the whole background. Here you get the orange color, minding the lines again. Afterwards we are going to be
using our permanent marker to outline the bubble. It is okay if the color get a little bit mixed
with the bubble. And those colors mix blends and try to keep it the uniform possible as
you can apply more water. If you need to move some color and then continue smoothing out. When you see spaces
with too much color, just move that color,
move that color. When this try, it will
look really pretty. For now, it looks
like it is too dark. But if you smooth out
those colors or lines, it will get where you want to go with a smooth background. Keep doing this until you
feel it is right for you. And I will see you
in the next video.
7. Heart shapes in White Gouache: Our painting is completely dry. Now we can paint the hairs inside the
bubble, the speech bubble. For that, we need
our white wash and a fine round brush that we are going to be
using as a pencil or pain. But first, let's try
to paint the heads. Just moving my hands
here with the brush. But I want to show you
that if you don't have the ability of
your need a guide, then just use Duke Watercolor
pencil or a pencil, not going too hard
on the painting. Then trace the hair shapes. Or if you choose to write
something inside the bubble, then do it and you can trace the word
that you want to place over there or any symbol or
whatever you want to do. Then go with a brush and
paint the head shapes. In this case, I am doing
two had shapes together. You can trace the word
that you choose for that or another symbol that you want to paint inside
a speech bubble. This is very simple,
just hair shapes. Then you will fill up
the center of, of, of the hairs to make them
pop up in your painting. The contrast of the colors look so beautiful and so
bright and so joyful. This is what I wanted
to create here. I am not using water
in this part of the painting because
I want this white to look really stand out. I want them to be brilliant
and shiny and really pop up my painting as is possible with wash being super thick
and no water use here. If you don't have, you
don't have it wash or you don't want to use
was white wash, then you can use white paint
or a white paint marker. I don't think white water
color will work here together. But you can try and see, apply many, many layers
so the white stand out. What else? You can
use acrylic white as well and that will
do the job for you. You can also use another
color for the Hertz. It can be gold or silver or
any other metallic color. Probably look very
nice on this painting. Just do many examples after you want and then
choose whatever you find is better or
beautiful and go with it and that you have many cars to give away
or to give to yourself. The trick here is that
the background or the surface where
you're painting with your wash is
completely dry. The color doesn't start to, if you are using
traditional guh, then be very careful
because that could mix with the color
that you're using here. As I told you, I am using
agreyh for that, its very nice. I will say you in
the next video.
8. Outlining and Lettering: Let's add the highlights and the outline with or
permanent marker. We are going to be outlining
the speech bubble. You will see how it
will change the look of it because we are going to be adding some more
depth and shape. It will really pop up onto the background looking more
clear and more beautiful. This is super easy with
your permanent brushes, just go around the lines and make the shape
of your bubble. Now it's done super
easy, super simple, but adds more beautifulness
to our painting. Will add now the text
and some highlights. Starting with the highlights, I am just painting some
little hearts like those dots that we see when
a message is coming to us. Here I will place a phrase. I choose the phrase
we love because I think this is what we need in our words right now and
always in our hearts, much love and kindness. Then I will do this little line and her in the middle
to mark the message. Ready to peel off those tapes. Look or finish piece for the first time without
tapes going carefully. But I am not afraid
because my tape is really soft and it won't
break my paper. It is always super satisfying to look at the painting when the tapes are peel off because we see it
in another light, truly in another light
without the tapes and the lines of the frame
show up in this way. And we can look
at this as it is. I think these two colors make
a beautiful combination, but I can wait to
see what color you choose for your background
and for your bubble. I will see you in
the next video.
9. Final Piece and extra Idea: Here it is. Our final
piece is complete, and look how beautiful
this look like. I think anyone
receiving this will be very surprised and
amazed and happy. But the way we can
do another one. When I was rehearsing
for this class, I met my tail. And I always do a small
painting of my big painting, and this is how this look. And I think you can use
this as well as an idea. So I hope you enjoy the
class and I can wait to see what you create
and please share that, your thought and your ideas and your feedback
for this class. And I will very appreciate if you leave a review
for the class. I will see you in
the next video.
