About This Class

Bonjour et bienvenue :-)
(Hello and welcome)

There is nothing more thrilling than being able to speak to the locals in their own language when you visit a foreign country. Well, now you can experience that amazing feeling too!

My name is Kieran Ball and I’ve been teaching foreign languages in my hometown for over fifteen years. I love languages, I love learning and I love teaching. I also love chocolate, but this isn’t really the place to discuss my chocoholism!

I created 3 Minute French as a way to make learning French easier than ever before and accessible to anybody, especially people who have tried and failed in the past. My course is perfect for the complete beginner as I break down the French language into tiny chunks that I show you how to build back together again in a logical, simple to understand way. You can go from knowing no French at all to putting together your own sentences in just a few minutes.

HOW DOES 3 MINUTE FRENCH WORK?

As the name suggests, each lesson in this course lasts just three minutes (more or less!). In each lesson, you learn a tiny chunk of French that you can use to build sentences. As you work through the course, you learn more and more little chunks and your sentences will gradually get longer and longer.

The chunks that you learn in the first lessons are carried through to the last lessons. This means you don’t have to worry about trying to remember everything; you will get so much opportunity for practice that you will find the words and phrases just sink into your brain.

The lessons in this course are focused, practical and effective, and you will build language skills that you can use straight away in real-world situations. You will be able to speak French comfortably and with confidence whenever you’re in a French speaking country.

WHY 3 MINUTES?

When you begin learning something new, you tend to start off with lots of excitement and motivation. You might spend a few hours on the first day learning, but then the next day, you can only manage one hour, and then that goes down to half an hour, and then you get bored and you give up. Well, the reason behind the very short lessons is that it helps you to stay motivated and it also enhances the learning process.

By keeping your learning to short chunks, you will find three wonderful things start to happen:

1. You will maintain enthusiasm

If you want to learn anything, you have to maintain enthusiasm or else you won’t continue. If you limit your study time to just three minutes, you’ll keep French fresh and exciting and you’ll be eager to learn. If you spend hours studying, very quickly you’ll get bored with French and it’ll turn into a chore.

2. You will study more consistently

It’s much better to study for just three minutes once a day than to study for three hours once a week. A spare three minutes is relatively easy to find even in the most hectic of schedules. If you make sure you complete at least one three-minute study session every day, it’ll quickly become a habit that you’ll do without thinking. It’s much easier to fit in a daily three-minute habit than a weekly one-hour habit. By doing this, you’ll become a much more consistent learner, and consistency is the key to success.

3. You will remember things better

This is my favourite reason as to why you should limit your study to just three-minute chunks. If you study something for just three minutes every day, you’ll trick your brain into memorising the information more quickly than if it were to see the information for hours each day. It’ll think, “I see this information every day so it must be important, but I don’t see it for very long, so I’d better hold onto it and make it into a memory fast!” You’ll be amazed at how much more easily things tend to stay in your brain if you limit yourself to just three minutes a day.

So, that’s why I keep the lessons to just three minutes.

A METHOD THAT REALLY WORKS

I can’t quite believe it, but over 190,000 people in more than 200 countries have now used 3 Minute Languages to learn to speak a foreign language. It still amazes me when I get an email from somebody on the other side of the world telling me how much they have enjoyed learning French with me. Apart from the thrill it gives me to find out people are listening to my voice in places like Mongolia, Peru and even Fiji, it also confirms to me that the 3 Minute Languages courses work well.

So, if you want a course that teaches you to speak French you can use in everyday situations using a simple and fun method, then sign up to 3 Minute French today.

Merci :-)

Kieran

Introduction: morsel a bienvenue Hello and welcome to three minute French course. One. I'm Karen on Dime, a language tutor based in the UK Andi I wrote this course to help me to learn to speak French. This course is based on the method I developed for teaching languages, which I use in all my classes and courses. The method will get you speaking quickly without the struggle normally associated with language learning. If you've tried to learn a language before Andi have failed, well, then give this course ago as it's perfect for you. We are all human beings, which means we all possess the attributes that make us human beings. There's a wonderful quote by a man called Terence. He said, I am human and nothing that is human is alien to me. What I take that to mean is that if one person is capable of something, then we are all capable of it because we're all humans, too. There's nothing in the world that I cannot understand if somebody before me has succeeded in understanding it. Therefore, it's only logical that since there are more than 200 million people in the world who have managed to learn to speak French, then you can learn it too. Anyway philosophizing over. Let's begin French in three minutes. I hear you cry suspiciously. Yes, this course is intricately designed to get you speaking French in the shortest time possible. I've created this course as a complete French course for the complete beginner who only has a few minutes to spare each day. Everything you need in the is contained in this course. Andi, I've set out each lesson so that they can be completed in short bursts. For whenever you find yourself with a moment of freedom before you start this course, let me share with you an extremely handy learning tip that helped meets progress quickly and effectively in language learning. When most people start studying anything, they tend to spend the first day or two studying for hours and hours on Get through loads of work. However, very quickly this begins to dwindle. You might feel like spending hours studying French, which is great, but you want that feeling of motivation to continue and it won't continue If you actually spend hours studying. Limit your story time to chunks of just three minutes. No more if you limit your studying to just three minute chunks. There are three things that will happen. Firstly, your maintain enthusiasm. If you want to learn anything, you have to maintain enthusiasm or else you won't continue. If you limit your story time to just three minutes, you'll keep French fresh and exciting. Andi. You'll be eager to. Then, if you spend hours studying very quickly, you'll get bored with French Andi. It will turn into a chore. Secondly, you'll have more consistent studying. It's much better to study for three minutes once a day than to study for three hours once a week. A spare three minutes is relatively easy to find, even in the most hectic of schedules. If you make sure you complete at least 13 minute study session every day, it will quickly become a habit that you'll do without thinking. It's much easier to fit in a daily three minute habit than a weekly one hour habit. By doing this, you'll become a much more consistent learner. Onda consistency is the key to success. Thirdly, you're achieve more effective memorization. This is my favorite reason as to why you should limit your study, so just three minutes chunks. If you study something for just three minutes every day, you'll trick your brain into memorizing the information more quickly than if it were to see the information for hours each day. It will think I see this information every day, so it must be important. But I don't see it for very long, so I better hold on to it and make it into a memory fast. You'll be amazed at how much more easily things tend to stay in your brain if you limit yourself to just three minutes a day, so three minutes is the key. You should aim to do at least 13 minute chunk every day, any more than that is a bonus. But one is fine. Just listen to the course and completely exercises, that's all. You'll be amazed at how much you learn. 3. 3 Minute French Lesson 1a: Here's your first word in French bone bone. It means good. Here's your next word. See se. It means it is. So How would you say in French, it is good. Say boom, stable. You'll start to notice some similarities between French and English words. Look at this word, for example. Fantastic, Fantastic. It means fantastic. Fantastic. So how would you say this in French? It is fantastic. Say fantastic. It's a fantastic. Here's another word that looks similar to English. Absolutely, absolutely. It means absolutely, absolutely. So how would you say in French, it is absolutely fantastic. Say absolutely fantastic. Say absolutely fantastic. So far, we've lent bomb, which means good See, meaning It is fantastic meeting fantastic and absolutely meaning absolutely. Or has a cute little French word E C. It's C. It means here it's C. So how do you say in French? It is here Se e c se e c. Or how would you say it is good here? Same only See, say bone sc Or how do you say it is fantastic here, say fantastic. A C say fantastic ISI, Or what about it is absolutely fantastic here. Say absolutely fantastic. ISI say absolutely fantastic a C. Here's a word you might recognize if you've learned any French before. Okay, Okay. It means very Trey. So have the same French. It is very good. Se tailbone se Tyrone. 4. 3 Minute French Lesson 1b: So we've now had bomb, which means good se, meaning it is fantastic, which was fantastic. Absolutely, absolutely. It's see meaning here and Trey Meaning very. It's hard to stay in French. It is very good here. Se trim only see say time only. See, Now you might be wondering what that little line is on top of the E in today. What it's called an accent. Don't worry about it. For the time being, we'll look at it in detail in a later lesson. Just remember to write it on the word today. So the would say I meant it is when he is the opposite. Soon a papa Sen apa It means it isn't soon APA So how do you say in French? It isn't here. Cenepa Isi Synet Pat PC or it isn't good Snake Baboon! Snake Baboon! It isn't very good. Snake Pat Travon It's in a patrimony. Or how do you say in French? It isn't fantastic. Snap! A fantastic snap. A fantastic Or what about? It isn't very good here. Synet patrimony See snake patrimony. See, you've learned quite a few words on phrases in French now and you've hopefully being saying them out loud so that you can master the pronunciation Now to really embed these words and phrases in your brain, let's do some translations. What do these sentences mean in French? It's good sable civil. It's absolutely fantastic here. Say absolutely fantastic. A C say absolutely fantastic. Easy. It's good here. Same buoyancy se bonus. See, it is very good state tribal se table. 5. 3 Minute French Lesson 1c: It isn't good here. Snake. Probably see snake Balboni. See? It isn't good. It's fantastic. Snap a bone. Say fantastic. Snap a bonus e se Absolutely fantastic. Snake Balboni. See, Say absolutely fantastic. It's very good here. Se time honesty se trim Bonus e. Now let's have a go at doing some reverse translations. I'll say some sentences in French and see if you can look at what they mean in English. Snapchat, Raman Sin A patron bone. It isn't very good, said Tamerlan. Say hi, mom. It's very good. It's napisy snap at E. C. It isn't here. Say absolutely fantastic. A C say absolutely fantastic. Isi. It's absolutely fantastic here. Synet patrimony. See snake patrimony. See, it isn't very good here. Sable stable. It's good. Say easy. Say it. See? It's here. Snap a bonus. E snake. Balboni. See, it isn't good here. Say, Barney, see? Save money. See? It's good here. Snap a bone. Say absolutely fantastic. Snap a bone. Say absolutely fantastic. It isn't good, is absolutely fantastic. 6. 3 Minute French Lesson 1d: Now let's recap the words we've learned in this lesson. How do you say these words in French? It is. I see. Absolutely, absolutely fantastic. Fantastic. Good. Boom! Here, you see. Very play. It isn't snapper. Now there is plenty that you can do to ensure the language stays family in your brain and doesn't disappear. You can play about with the building sentences from the words you've learned so far. Whenever you find yourself with a spare 30 seconds, think of something you can say infringe. Saying short sentences to yourself in French throughout the day keeps the language at the forefront of your mind. Also, from time to time there will be a word or two, or maybe three that just will not stay in your memory. No matter how hard you try, what you should do to overcome. This is right. The word down in English, in big letters in the middle of a blank piece of paper. Put the piece of paper in your pocket on Take it out a few times each day. Whenever you take it out, look at the English word and say the French word to yourself, along with a French sentence that contains this word. The first few times you might struggle to think off what the French word is on. Dure have to double check. However pretty quickly you remember the French without having to check. You'll be amazed at how well this technique works. Finally, before I end this lesson, I'll just give you some information on what it means to learn a language. Memorizing lots of words isn't what it means to learn a language. It's a start, but it isn't gonna get you very far. What you need to be able to do is put those words together to get your thoughts and ideas across to somebody else. Each time you learn a new word, think to yourself. Where could I use this makeover sentence and think about where you could say it? Stay table. You could say this to a waiter in a French restaurant when he asks you how your meal is. By doing this, you're giving the words relevance in your life. You'll remember things much more easily if you can see where it's going to be useful also, by building sentences, you're subconsciously creating a list of things to say so that you'll never be lost for words. Even when you're in friends, you can do this before entering a restaurant, for example, Have a quick think about what you could say to the waiter when you go inside, this helps to build your confidence and stop you from having to think on the spot. You'll be more likely to speak if you have already prepared something to say. 7. 3 Minute French Lesson 2a: Let's start this lesson with a quick recap of the words and phrases we learned in the last lesson. How do you say these words in French? Absolutely, Absolutely. It isn't Synet, Papa. Good boom! Fantastic, Fantastic. Very okay it is. See here. If he If there are any words that you can't remember, go back to the last lesson and have a quick review of them. Before you start this lesson. It's really important that you remember the words you learned so far before you move on to learn anymore. Here's your first word in French for this lesson. Dennis. Here their issue. It means delicious Dennis here. Did you notice that there's another one of those accidents on top of the E in Del Issue? It's similar to the one we saw in play, but it's facing the other way around. The accident in Trey is called a graph. Accent on the accent. In daily suit is called an acute action accent. It doesn't really matter what their cord put. I always think it's nice to know the accents don't really do a lot with a tiny time tiny difference between how you pronounce each one. But it's so minor it's hardly worth bothering about. However, I'll show you just sing. You know the letter e with a graph accent like the one in tape should be pronounced like the e sound in the English word fed. So a Okay, the letter e with an acute accent like the one in Dennis here should be pronounced like the vowel sound in the English word pay. But without the y sound A a So we've got okay and a Okay, A It's so tiny. How do you say in French? It is delicious. Say Dennis here, Se Minister, here's your next word in French extraordinaire, ex tardy Now it means extraordinary ex tidy now. So how would you say this in French? It is extraordinary se X turning there se X starting there. 8. 3 Minute French Lesson 2b: How would you say it is absolutely extraordinary? Say absolutely extraordinaire, Say absolutely extraordinaire. How do you say it is absolutely extraordinary here? Say absolutely extraordinaire. SC say absolutely extraordinary. See, here's a beautiful little word in French Bull. No, it means beautiful boom. So how do you say in French? It is beautiful sable stable. So far in this lesson we've learned. Then it's your which means delicious EC study now meaning extraordinary and boom Meaning beautiful. So how do you say in French? It is very beautiful State table se table And how would you say it is very beautiful here? Say try Boise. Say try Boise. How to say it is absolutely beautiful here se absolute mint Bowie see se absolute mambo. We see his a useful phrase in French Pope more someone it means for me. Boom one. So how would you say in French? It is for me, say from one say for more Or how would you say it isn't for me Synet pepper in a paper? Or how would you say it isn't good for me? Snap a bump or more sleep pablum Puma? Or how would you say it isn't very good for me? It's in a patron bomb. Puma Cindy Patrick Mboma 9. 3 Minute French Lesson 2c: the phrase boom. One actually has two meanings in French. We've seen that it could mean for me, but if you put poor more at the start of a sentence in French, where you can use it to mean in my opinion or I think for more so how would you say in French? I think it is good. Boom wasabi from what stable? So so far we've had this year meaning delicious extraordinaire, meaning extraordinary bull, meaning beautiful someone for me and pour moi at the start for sentence means, I think, or in my opinion, so how would you say, I think it's very good from what's a Tribble? Mom was a Tribble, or how would you say? I think it's delicious from Los a dentist from what I said, however, the same French. I think it's absolutely extraordinary here, Beaumont say, Absolutely extraordinary. See, from what I say absolutely extraordinary. See, or what about? I think it's fantastic here, Mama. Say fantastic, Easy. From what I say Fantastic A C. Now we've added quite a few new words to our French repertoire. Let's practice putting them together into sentences. So how do you say in French? It's very beautiful here. Say try boys, see se Tribal racy It's absolutely beautiful. Se absolute mambo se absolute mumble. I think it's very good from one state travel. From what say treble, It's absolutely extraordinary here. Say absolutely extraordinary. See se absolute, more extraordinary. See, it isn't for me. Snap up! One more Snap Apple more. It isn't very good for me. Snake Patrick Bump or more Snee patrimony. 10. 3 Minute French Lesson 2d: it isn't good. It's absolutely extraordinary. Snap a bone, say absolute mark. Starting there. Snap a bone, Say Absolutely extraordinary. It's absolutely delicious. Se absolute moment. Del issue se absolute Monday This year. I think it's delicious. From what I say that from Waseda, I think it's fantastic. From what say Fantastic Mom was a fantastic. Now let's have a go at doing some reverse translations. So what are these French sentences mean in English se extraordinaire se X tight in there It's extraordinary se absolute mambo se absolute mambo. It's absolutely beautiful. From what say Absolute Mom, Boise, Beaumont say absolute mambo, etc. I think it's absolutely beautiful here. From what? Sable? From Wasabi. I think it's good se time on for more se trey bump or more. It's very good for me. A pack for more. It's in a pap from one. It isn't for me. Save Venice here. Se del issue. It's delicious, Beaumont say Dallas here for Marseille. I think it's delicious. Say absolutely emboli see se absolute mambo. Easy. It's absolutely beautiful here. Sleep at table, snap a treble. It isn't very beautiful. What we're going to do now are some recap translations, which will incorporate words we learned in the previous lesson. How do you say in French? It isn't very good. Snip that Trayvon a pack travel. 11. 3 Minute French Lesson 2e: it isn't good here. Snap a bonus e snap, abalone sea It's absolutely fantastic here. Say absolutely fantastic. It isn't very good. Say easy. Say easy is here. Say fantastic. You see? Say fantastic. E C. It's fantastic! Here. Snap a bonus E se Absolutely fantastic. Sniper bonus E se Absolutely fantastic. It isn't good here. It's absolutely fantastic. Stay absolutely fantastic. E c Say absolutely fantastic. Istea. It's absolutely fantastic. Here. Snap A fantastic snap! A fantastic It isn't fantastic. Same money. See se Bonus e. It's good here. Stable Savon. It's good. Say fantastic. Say fantastic. It's fantastic. Now let's recap all the words we've learned so far. How do you say these in French? It is. See here, you see? Fantastic. Fantastic! Delicious. Dennis here It isn't Snipper. Good, but very okay. Extraordinary extorting there, I think. Boom. What beautiful boom for me. And absolutely, absolutely. 12. 3 Minute French Lesson 3a: Let's start this lesson with a quick recap of the words and phrases ballooned in the last lesson. How do you say the following in French for me? From one, I think for more, But you place it at the start of a sentence. Delicious this year. Extraordinary extorting there. Beautiful bull. Here's your first word in French for this lesson. May May. It means boat. May you pronounce the word me as though there's no s on the end. Well, there's a funny thing about continents in French. You rarely ever pronounce them when they're on the end of words, the only constant you pronounce in French. Ah, see, ah f and l You can remember them because they appear in the word. Careful. So in the end of words, don't pronounce any constant except for C r. F l. For example, sack meaning bag bull Meaningful bit, which means beef and no model meaning normal. If it's not a C r f or an L. Well, then you can pronounce it so me meaning bought ends in an s. But you don't pronounce it me. How do you say in French? It is delicious bought. It isn't very good for me. Say that issue Mason. A patron bump or more say they assume a snake. Patrick Mboma. Here's your next word in French. We we it means yes, we. So how would you say in French? Yes, it's for me.
